Diptyque Essences Insensees 2019 ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 10 June 2019 15 Comments

Diptyque will launch Essences Insensées 2019, the fourth limited edition harvest-based fragrance in the La Collection 34 series (see Essences Insensées 2014, Essences Insensées 2015 and Essences Insensées 2016). This year's edition centers on Tahitian gardenia, aka tiaré.

For this new edition of Essences Insensées, diptyque has chosen a tiare flower. Harvested on the island of Tahiti, it combines green notes, a lively presence and a wholly ethereal freshness akin to a gentle ocean breeze. A vanilla absolute has been added to bring out the sensual qualities of this exotic bloom.

Diptyque Essences Insensées 2019 was developed by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin. It is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Update: additional notes include pink pepper and frangipani.

Another update: the US price (at Barneys) is $250.

OMG! There is almost no chance that I’ll want this scent, but that bottle!!!

There is a chance I’d want it, but also a good chance I won’t try it.

I loved 2014 (mimosa) and 2015 (jasmine). I might even have a sample of 2016 (rose) but if so, it’s floating out in The Sample Sea. I’ve been hoping for them to do orange blossom for this collection! Gardenia is usually not for me, but this sounds lovely.

The jasmine was fantastic. I think I skipped the rose.

Ah! The rose is the only one I’ve tried (also because I loved that bottle). It’s quite nice, though a bit old-fashioned and “perfume-y.”

This one’s quite modern but not laundry musk bomb modern. Still might be too clean for some but it is lovely.

The 2016 rose is fantastic — dark red, lightly accented with honey and red fruit and greenery but really at its heart nothing but a rose, which is a pretty damned good thing to smell like.

I loved the mimosa and jasmine, and I have the feeling that they were so beautiful that I may have been inspired to get a sample of the rose which is a note that usually doesn’t work for me, or at least as a soliflore. Apparently there’s a gap between what inspires me and what comes to fruition.

I actually bought a bottle of 2014 off of evil bay, and an oily saturated box was presented to me by a jovial postal carrier who announced that his whole truck smelled great and he would have a lot to answer for when he got home to his wife. I have no idea if the vendor or the atomizer was responsible, but I got a full refund as the bottle I received was completely empty.

I’ve never tried any of these Diptyques although I have been very tempted to. This one sounds very gorgeous!

Have seen this displayed at Nordstrom, I think they’re taking preorders for a July launch. The bottle is gorgeous and the scent is beautiful. So so tempted.

I would very much like to smell this (since I know I can’t splash the cash on a bottle anyways)
