Happy Almost-Friday and happy Mint Julep Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking community project points with Diptyque Volutes.
Reminder: on 5/31, for World No Tobacco Day, compensate by wearing something smoky (it doesn't have to smell like tobacco in particular).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Diam blonde SL today for no special reason.
What can you tell me about the mimosa scent. I saw it as part of a description of a scent. Any scents that are known for showing it off so I can get some sort of an idea in my head of what it might be?
https://nstperfume.com/2011/12/16/5-perfumes-mimosa/
thanks, I have not smelled any but the apres l’ondee. MOreto seek out….
And I don’t notice it so much in AlO. I notice it in the base of MCG Hanbury. It is not really my favorite note, I like it best as a bit player.
Gucci Winter’s Spring is a good mimosa.
Absolutely no tobacco for me today – I’m in 24, Faubourg.
so pretty! đ
Beautiful!
Elegant and gorgeous!
In the last drops of Dusita Splendiris to cheer me up on this grey, cloudy, humid, rainy day. Hope that its beauty and enough coffee can finally help me wake me up on such a busy day!
Wake up perfumelover67! (Although it’s sunny and warm here and I am dragging a wee bit myself. Up too late reading and watching tv.)
Lucky you, Robin! Keep enjoying the beach!âïž. It is cloudy here! We might get some sunshine early in the afternoon and back to rain and thunderstorms in the evening. Hopefully, it will be nice tomorrow!
We had decent storms last night and looks like we may have them again tonight. I went out for flashlight batteries so I am set đ
I hope you are not in tornado country, those associated T-storms are SO scary!
There were tornado warnings at home, not where I am now, but no activity last night. We don’t get many in general although one went right through our backyard once and took a tree down.
Such a challenge for me EVERY night! I always feel like that time in bed before sleep is ‘my time’ and I want to read, and read, and read but, there’s work the next day!
Enjoy your leisure holiday schedule.
Exactly. I go up to bed early, but then have a really hard time making myself put everything away and turn off the light.
Yup, me too. Once the house is quiet, I’ll get started reading something on the Kindle and then be up late. I need to do more reminding myself that I can get back to the book tomorrow.
You might have said, but did this go on your to buy list?
Thinking about it! Despite being such a beautiful perfume, the violet note is much stronger than the iris and for that purpose I prefer Misia instead.
Hope you’re enjoying Splendiris đ
Always! ?
The forecast for tomorrow is looking better for me; I hope the same holds true up there for you.
It is supposed to be a gorgeous sunny day in the upper 70’s. ???
Happy Thursday!
Perfect morning for some Eau de Minthé by Diptyque. Lovely, zippy spearmint opening that transitions into a quiet, green/ish abstract hum, which is what I need for this too-much-coffee-ice-cream-last-night, dull headachey morning.
Coffee ice cream hangover? Really?
Hangover, hah! Not quite that bad, but the kind of exhaustion headache from trying to fight for sleep all night long. Ice cream came out really strong!
I am definitely familiar with “trying to fight for sleep”~! Ugh.
But, you may have just invented the best breakfast ever.
I love coffee ice cream!!!
Good morning yâall! Im in Gucci Bloom – like others also trying to brighten up a dreary day
Oh, you smell lovely!
No tobacco for me today, I donât think I have too many scents with that note! I went with Imaginary Authorsâ Every Storm A Serenade from a sample. My first time trying it I didnât like it much at all but today itâs growing on me. Nice and dark green.
A question: whatâs your favorite scent that doesnât seem to exist in perfume? Yesterday I was planting some petunias, and they have such a lovely and unique floral fragrance. I went over to google to see if there were any perfumes that used petunia as a note, and apparently there are none!
Petunias do have a lovely smell. My grandmother loved them, always had them in her garden.
I’m still searching for a realistic pink jasmine scent. I adore the smell of fresh jasminum polyanthum flowers, but it only exists in nature. Some things can’t be bottled.
Oh, pink jasmine does have a beautiful fragrance. I wish I lived in the right climate to grow it!
Great poll question!
I’ll have to think about that.
Fringe tree! (But I suspect it would be like lilac and feel more prim as a perfume than as a flower.)
Also, freesia. I adore the smell of freesia in real life and “freesia” in perfume is a totally different thing.
Freesia perfumes turn very odd on my skin, but the flower does smell amazing. Iâve never smelled a fringe tree but now I want to!
My mom said more than once that our favorite fresh vegetable salad smells better that any perfume. đ This salad usually contains tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, scallion, garlic (or arugula), salt and sunflower oil. Lettuce is optional. While I do not think I want a perfume that smells exactly like that, I agree that juices of freshly cut vegetables and greens smell delicious.
I love the way salads smell, too! A candle in a scent like that might be really nice, but with perfume Iâm not sure I want to smell too edible.
Arugula in particular has a great scent, as do carrots
I find that most tea scents don’t smell like tea to me, so I was always curious to find one that does. Then I found Schmidt’s deodorant in Green Tea Jasmine – and I both found an exact tea scent AND realized I don’t want to smell like that at all!
Another one is the smell of gorse.
Iâll have to sniff that deodorant sometime! Iâm not sure Iâve ever smelled a tea fragrance that really smelled like tea, either.
Iâm not familiar with gorse, but a quick google showed me that theyâre very gorgeous
Really good tie guan yin tea is probably the best thing I’ve ever smelled and I can’t think of a fragrance that comes close.
There is something in the original Blvgari green tea that makes me believe the story about Jean Claude Ellena going to Mariage freres to smell the oolongs. But agree, the smell of the real thing is better.
I use the Schmidt’s jasmine green tea deodorant and love the scent. I can’t use their regular line because they are too irritating. I’m not a huge jasmine lover but this works for me. I think we are polar opposites when it comes to scent. ?
I’m learning that many things I think I like, I don’t like, and vice versa! Ditto on the Schmidts – loved their regular line, loved the cedarwood smell, cannot use it (or any baking soda based deodorant).
I was wondering the same thing Stephanie-Anne! I noticed especially with Wave petunias. It may be the cross hybrids they use to give them their longevity. My purple ones are rhe most fragrant. A happy smell!!
( I thought I was nuts! Thanks!)
Mine are a deep purple wave petunia! They smell really, really good. You may be right about the hybrids they use.
I love the smell of rain in the desert, but aquatic fragrances never ever smell right to me.
Iâm with you 100% on aquatics, they donât work for me even though I feel like I should like them
Some perfumes that are meant to mimic salt water do work for me, though. Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel is one of them. And Hermes des Merveilles Bleue is another, although that one is mood specific for me.
I tried Volutes this week, Robin. You smell great!
I am wearing Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir. I think the smoky note makes it special.
Oh! Neroli Outrenoir! Goodness, thanks for the reminder.
Smelling absolutely lovely đ
Thank you!
I need to try NO eventually!
Same!
Absolutely!
Argh! My sample list is getting longer…
Doing some more serious smoke in Lonestar Memories. Tea is a nice jasmin oolong.
You smell fabulous!
I love Lonestar Memories! It’s on my FB list.
What a wonderful scent- very jealous
Perfect one!
No smoke today; wearing Arquiste’s Flor y Canto for the first time from a sample.
What is it like?
It’s a white floral, but not a BIG white floral; at least, it’s staying ladylike on me (I’m a light applier). Notes include Mexican tuberose, magnolia, plumeria and marigold (and supposedly, copal); I don’t get marigold or copal/incense/smoke at all, the plumeria seems a bit more dominant among the florals to me. It’s very pretty, and isn’t wearing out its welcome (possibly because of the small amount I applied).
Ah, I see a SWF đ
I have a Sephora gift card begging me to use it, so I am looking at the Sephora website and seeing what the sale page has. Having a lazy day after two days of running my legs off. Pre-shower perfume is no 5 EDP. I don’t know what I am going to wear post shower. I am always amazed on how different all various versions of no 5 smells. I might just keep going with no 5.
Always an excellent choice!
I’m sampling Byredo Sundazed. It’s a sweet fruity floral–nice, but I don’t need any more. Hoping to thunk the sample by the end of the day.
Black Cashmere for me today.
Back to using my heater in the office. A/C is on but not warm outside means we’re freezing at our desks.
Heat, sun, yes even humidity, bring it on!
You probably already saw this…

SotD = Hiris + a few dabs of Purple Rain from a beloved sample
Iris all day loooooooong for me.
Hiris because it’s my go-to-scent for Thursdays.
Purple Rain because Prince is singing to me, courtesy of 94.7 FM The Wave, as I sit in my kitchen contemplating the gray skies. wondering should I go walk on the beach? The universe has spoken, the answer is yes. I always try to say yes to a walk by the water.
Be well, NSTers! đ
I love it when Prince sings to me!
Oh So Do I!
Walk on the beach…sounds wonderful!
We did this Sat. and although a bit chilly I loved every minute.
That sounds like such a fabulous combo! I bet it’s amazing.
I’m still kicking myself for not getting the bottle of Hiris when I had a chance.
Wearing the smoky-honey Zoologist Moth, and it came with an unexpected boyfriend approval. He tends to not like the ones that have any “weird” notes, so this is a win.
I thought someone at work was wearing Moth today and it turned out to be Aromatics Elixir! I never would have made the connection from a close-up sniff, but from a few feet away apparently my nose finds them similar.
That is funny — I bet you could release AE under a new name as an art house niche, and it would sell.
Everyone keeps referring to Moth as smoky-honey. I’ve just GOT to try it, haven’t I? Is Moth new? I thought I had tried out everything from Zoologist up through T-Rex/Camel.
If that sounds appealing to you at all, then YES, you must! It’s pretty new, released last year.
And it’s been 7 hours and still going strong. ?
Smokey+honey sounds like it would be wonderful.
Montale Intense Cafe today, smelling a little overly sweet right now bu it should mellow out…
Hope it is just right by now!
Trying out ELDO’s Vraie Blonde. Sprayed some on last night and was really taken aback by the weird herbally aldehyde opening. This morning I reapplied it post shower and purposefully did not sniff it for the first 15 minutes. It’s been calming down into something more traditional–the aldehydes give it that perfume-y perfume vibe. Interesting. I think it is going to take a few more wears for me to sort this one out.
I like Vraie Blonde! It helps if you think of it as Jayne Mansfield in a bottle.
Hi everyone,
SOTD is Shiseido’s Murasaki. Happy almost Friday! đ
I have a huge decant of Murasaki but haven’t worn it in quite a while. I am going to have to drag it out and start wearing it.
Do! I find it to be such a compelling beauty. I even adore the beautiful purple/burgundy-colored bottle.
Is this the actually Version or the vintage? I wore this in the eighties…
I’m in my one and only tobacco scent today – The Body Shop Red Musk (discontinued). It packs a punch, so I’m just wearing a couple dabs of the perfume oil plus a careful spritz of the EDT under my shirt.
That’s good stuff! I’m going to spray some on when I get home. I find it has a tinge of their old Tobacco Flower scent, long discontinued. One of my coworkers really liked it and would’ve grabbed a bottle if it was still available.
Sotd is Le Temps d’Une FĂȘte. Big thanks to a wonderful swapper for this beauty! ?
It’s amazing she does not bring that back at least as a limited edition.
+1!!!!!!
Don’t I wish!
Illuminum Tomato Leaf
Ah, that makes me wish I’d brought my Memory of Kindness with me.
I’m in Olympic Orchids Kilauea, which is based on the scents in the air after the volcanic eruption last year. From the description: “this scent mixes the smell of smoke, lava, live flowers, green and burning vegetation, and the unpredictable earth that gives rise to it all.” I really like it.
Has anyone heard anything official about what is going on with Parfums Delrae? I waited to buy a bottle of Wit because I was forcing myself too finish my decants first, but now I can’t find out available anywhere, not even the lesser known perfume shop that I was planning to buy from. However, someone on eBay is selling it for $200. ?
My husband just got me a sample of this last Friday – and he bought it from Tiger Lily Perfumery in San Francisco. I assume they still carry the scent, and I believe the might ship, too, if you’re not local.
Thanks, but sadly they only have samples available on the website. I’m guessing they’re trying to sell off samples from their tester bottle.
It still might be worth it to call. In some cases a store might be in stock, but it won’t show on the website because it is less than a certain amt, to allow for any miscounted or theft of inventory.
Passage d’Enfer, which has a nice smoky incense scent to me.
You smell great neyronrose!
Thank you. đ
Later in the afternoon I went to visit a friend who is recovering from heart trouble. I figured it would be a fun low-key thing to do to play with Demeter fragrances, so I brought my samples of those with me.
In between coloring and reading, we took breaks to try the Demeter fragrances. As I had figured, Chocolate Chip Cookie was a big favorite. I tried Chai Tea. I could smell a little spiciness. After dinner, we tried a sample of Gingerbread. That was also a big hit.
So, super low-key, but that was fine. Besides those elaborate coloring books with geometric shapes and such, my friend had books and magazines about the Marvel (MCU) movies which helped me link more of the things I remembered from the comic books with the often altered versions that showed up in the movies. It solved the mystery for me about why I kept referring to the MCU Captain Marvel as Ms. Marvel, while remembering that there was another female Captain Marvel who wasn’t Carol Danvers in the comic books. Otherwise, I would have had to reread a bunch of X-Men comic books from the 1970s and 1980s, and read quite a lot of other Marvel comics from that era. lol
That sounds like a great afternoon.
Add me to the list of sleepy people today. The cake yesterday turned out luscious and amazing, but maybe there was enough coffee in it to disturb my sleep? I don’t feel like I fell asleep properly until very late.
On the plus side, the sun is actually out. We’ve had a week now of grey days with sunshine only after 5pm. It’s been cramping my style! Hard to convince myself I’m on “vacation” when I’m stuck in the house to stay warm. I look forward to getting some sunshine in my eyes today.
No SOTD, yet, but I’ll likely grab another sample to try. I’ve worked my way through all of the Blackbird scents, and I don’t think I’ll be using that coupon. Nothing really spoke to me. ?
I *am* considering finally buying Black March from CB I Hate Perfumes. Thing is, I don’t know if I’ll actually wear it, or if I’m just buying it because I want to share it with people to show how amazing and weird fragrances can be. . . which impacts what size bottle I’ll likely buy. I think I’m decided to buy the water perfume, but I could be talked into the absolute, if folks have strong feelings about it. Let me know, if you do!
In my experience the water perfumes don’t age well. They turn into, well, water. Go for the absolute đ
On other topics, I’m still trying to teach my cat about his new magic feeder. He hasn’t yet learned that the ‘whirrrr’ sound means new food is appearing. (He’s not the sharpest furry I’ve ever had.) More annoyingly, he’s still waking me up at dark o’clock because apparently, having dry food available is Not Sufficient, he wants his yummy yummy canned food. Grrrrrrr.
<3
Haha! My kitty sits in wait for his feeder to go off, head underneath the shoot in anticipation!
Are you transitioning your kitty to a new dry food at the same time, or is it just that it used to get both and now is only getting the dry? I think it can be tough to switch foods for a kitty, and some transition time in typical (mixing them together for a while, etc).
Oh, and as you are the only person to reply re: the water perfume vs. absolute, I might have to go with your suggestion!
Maybe I need a piece of your cake to boost my coffee tomorrow morning haha!
Ooh! It would make an excellent breakfast. Fantastic idea!
No idea on the CBHIP perfumes, so I can’t offer any advice.
I’m feeling better but my sniffer is dulled today. I’m wearing California Reverie and hoping at least that other people are enjoying it! I keep thinking today is Friday ?
Glad to hear you are feeling better today! You smell great!
Thank you!
Glad you are feeling better! The other day my daughter sprayed California Reverie for her sotd, and it was really great to smell it on someone else, since I’ve only ever smelled it on me.
Thank you and me too! I’ve only smelled most of my perfumes on me. I think it would be nice to smell some of them on someone else. Can I borrow your daughter? ?
With pleasure!, just warn the cats!?
Glad you’re feeling a bit better. I’m sure some people are noticing how good you smell!
I’ve been misplacing days this week, too. I kept thinking that Tuesday was Monday.
Or was I confusing Tuesday and Wednesday?
I’ll join the ranks of the sleepy folks – I woke up at 5 for no reason at all, thinking about this and that – must be something in the air! As a result, I can’t get myself to do the things I ought to do.
Twins with Robin in Volutes!
Hey twin!!
It’s hot here and a little clammy so I’m in hermes eau d’orange verte. Pleasantly super see by the lasting power on me.
I am looking forward to a trip to London tomorrow to see friends from university.
That’s a good one. You smell great.
This smells pretty bad on me but smells REALLY GREAT on my fiance đ it’s his only perfume!
Wow, you got him to wear scent?!?! I didn’t think that was ever going to happen!
Your memory is excellent! He wears it extremely rarely, and he still dislikes almost all other perfumes đ but yes, he does enjoy this ONE! I’m so happy I got it for him, and I’m thinking of buying him all the matching body products, too!
In Jacomo Silences and loving it đ
Silences is SO good!
Good afternoon Fragrant Friends (aka Y’all)….
It’s already 95 degrees today….so wearing Paris Hilton South Beach. Cute packaging, fun scent. Me likey! đ
I miss hearing “Hey y’all!” They just don’t say it here in NM like they do in Bama. đ
I decided on Prada l’Eau Ambree today, which was lovely all day; not decided for tomorrow, I think it will depend on the weather, if it’s warm and sunny I probably won’t go for a smoky scent.
Is this different from just regular Prada Amber. ?
Yes! https://nstperfume.com/2009/09/25/prada-leau-ambree-perfume-review/
I’ll just add to Robin’s excellent review that it has one of the best citrus openings, that it wears to a sheer amber (love the opoponax in it), can be worn in warm weather and that it’s much more unique that one would think, I like it more each time I’m wearing it.
In the opposite of smoke…Chanel Beige. So happy i switched to this for my work spring/summer signature. Good stuff.
Beige is so pretty.
I too am sleepy! But looking forward to a sharp wakeup after work with my first lake swim of the year.
Plinked my sample of Branch & Vine just now – I like it a lot, but prefer the similar-but-more-floral Hindu Honeysuckle, also from Providence Perfume co.
Lake swim! That sounds…icy! Have fun.
I, meanwhile, the wimpy Californian, decided not to go for a swim today because the high around here was 69 degF, which seemed a bit too chilly for a swim in a pool heated to 70 degF.
Almost Friday and I’m going in fresh direction today with Puredistance Aenotus.
I’m not fighting the dreary rain anymore. I’m wearing Noir de Noir. It feels right.
This sounds like something from a Kafka novel, lol! I’m feeling you on the dreariness. ?
I think you smell like perfection!
It always reminds me of you! Even more than Shalimar.
Noir de Noir is a beauty! You are smelling great even if your weather stinks.
Thank you! Thankfully no severe weather here, just blah. It’s depressing. Would not trade it for snow, though.
Black Orchid, because I found it while sorting my samples. A little heavy for today’s heat, but not too bad in air conditioning.
I have not worn it in ages, I should find mine!
A little late posting..have a busy day since my better half is traveling for work and I am holding down the fort..
Omnia today since I needed a easy scent for a busy stressful day
Hope the fort is behaving đ
No smoke for me today, I have an urge for JHAG’s Mad Madame. Largely based on the name, I think, I’m expecting a busy day đ
Mad Madame is truly fabulous!
Twins with Robin today! I’m not sure if that has ever happened before.
OMG the past coupla days at work have been madness. Everybody with hair-on-fire. I think I may have just resolved the worst of the shrieking emergencies… fingers crossed.
Joining the yawning crowd. The power company turned off our power at 7am yesterday. It was supposed to be on again at 6pm… nope. So we fired up the generator, made dinner, had our evening, still no power, shut off the generator, went to bed, then: discovered that our new alarm system doesn’t cope well with no power. Once its batteries ran down, it kept saying: “Warning! No internet connection!” Well, duh, ’cause NO POWER. At 2am we couldn’t figure out how to shut it off so it got wadded up in a coat and stuffed in a closet. Ah the joys of technological advances.
Oh, dear that sounds like a nightmare! But it cracked me up.
D: when will your power be back? why was it turned off??
Bletch! What a horrid start to the day!
Hey twin, and sorry for all the various disturbances!
Caron pour un Homme again, because i am saving my smoke scent for tomorrow. We took a walk through fĂŒr vineyards today and had a nice four course dinner in the evening, Now i am stuffed….
Love Caron Pour un Homme!
Iâm getting a rather late start today, sampling DSH Musc Eau Natural. Itâs very nice, and not a typical musky, animalic âskankyâ perfume. I can smell the Musc, but on me itâs more of a greenish, vegetal fresh Musc, if there is such a thing.
I was sent three samples with my recent purchase of a travel size Chinchilla, and sadly for my pocketbook, I like all of them. ?
It’s always a bittersweet day when I get a lot of samples and like them all haha!
Sometimes I wonder which is worse: a batch of samples that are all scrubbers, or a batch of samples where I have fallen in love with them all. ?
Au Coeur du Desert for me on this hectic Thursday. Almost Friday, friends!
SotD is Annick Goutal, Grand Amour.
A blind buy, first wear and I have not one regret!! This is beautiful, the lily, the hyacinth and maybe a drop of jasmine, all beautifully balanced. Itâs like a sheer, rich luminous and light gold. Very elegant. I canât wait to see how it unfolds. Definitely feminine.
That sound lovely!
I think that this is the first description I have read about Grand Amour here.
And the price feels like a steal.
(discounters online)
Day 3 of nasty afternoon weather. At least the cats aren’t freaked out by any of it. ???
SOTD = back in Belle d’Opium again today. Smelled so nice, I had to wear it twice! I’ve got some options for tomorrow’s CP that are genuinely smoky.
My cats used to be terrified of bad weather. If there was a tornado warning, I could never find them to get them to safety. Hope this is the last of nastiness for awhile.
Tomorrow’s forecast is looking like a nice one! ?
Late today. I went with Datura Noir because It’s just so pretty and easy to wear. Now to read the comments!
Very pretty and easy to wear is an under-rated combination, IMO.
Agreed – and I am just as guilty as most of this. I think I tend to privilege the unconventional or atypical when it comes to perfume, but sometimes, one wants the quiet contentment of a pretty, easy to wear scent, as opposed to the thrill-inducing joy of a fantastically multilayered and gorgeous one.
Agreed Ă2
Sometimes wearing a hard to wear perfume feels exhausting, like it constantly needs attention.
Wearing some Lush Silky Underwear from a solid; it seems a bit more smoky tonight, possibly from the vetiver. I topped it off with Guerlain Vetiver for good measure.
Off to relax by reading today’s comments!
Yum! I wish they would bring that one back.
I’m wearing Berdoues Assam of India again today. It’s becoming a scent I reach for on warmer days.I’m almost out of my discontinued favorite L’Occitane Bergamot Tea in the solid so am glad I found another tea scent that is still available.
One of the Martin Margiela Replica scents is supposed to be a bergamot tea, but I have not tried it (and have not really loved that series) — Tea Escape.
I have tried Tea Escape and it was just ok,but not a favorite. The green tea note leans more toward a matcha tea which on my skin has a bitterness. It’s definitely worth trying. It may work on your skin.
Iâm chiming in late. Today I tried a combination of By Kilian Smoke for the Soul and Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla. The TF overpowered the Kilian, and was potent and sweet, but made me wish I had chosen Havana Vanilla instead. I might wear it tomorrow.
