Almost-Friday, and World Turtle Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Chanel Cristalle, the original Eau de Toilette, 1974, for Bob Dylan You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go, from Blood on the Tracks, 1975. (It is number 56 on the Rolling Stone list of the 100 best Bob Dylan songs, and for those of you who hate Dylan's voice, here are great covers by Shawn Colvin, Madeleine Peyroux and Ben Watt. It's also on the bonus disc for the Elvis Costello album Kojak Variety, but I can't find it online.)
Reminder: 5/24 is Bob Dylan's birthday. Match a fragrance to a Bob Dylan song, OR, tell us who YOUR favorite musical artist is and match a fragrance to one of his/her/their songs.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Smell Bent Cocoa Rose today.
That sounds nice!
That’s a nice one. It really does smell as its name implies.
Song of the day: Bob Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower
Scent of the day: Tom Ford Noir de Noir
The connection is the dark intensity with undertones of anxiety present in both the song and the scent. Also, boozy rose and earthy patchouli in this perfume remind me of the following lines:
“Businessmen, they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth”
Excellent..I love the pairing!
House twins with Robin in Chanel 19. I came close to wearing Cristalle today as well, but at the last second my hand decided otherwise, and it’s probably just as well since my work life will be uber-stressful until the end of May. Breathing deeply and trying to keep my head on straight.
Chanel 19 never fails. Hope the rest of the month goes fast and well for you!
Hope the next week passes quickly and that No 19 works it’s magic
Mistral Patchouli. Another comforting scent for a crazy, busy day full of nonsense.
Happy almost Friday everyone!
The only AC I cared to own and the first they discontinued! You smell great.
Thank you! Atelier has never worked much for me, except for Mistral Patchouli, Silver Iris and Iris Rebelle, which I really like.
I did not know! And ditto. It was the only one I was thinking of buying, other than Sous Le Toit.
It hasn’t been on their website for years. One can still find it from discounters but I haven’t decided if I need that much!
Shows how much I am paying attention! I would not have bought it unless it was in a travel spray anyway.
I’m in complete sympathy with you and Coumarin: Mistral Patchouli is a great scent, and AC should be ashamed of themselves for discontinuing it!
The good ones are always discontinued. It is so frustrating!
Mistral Patchouli is beautiful. I wish it was not discontinued.
It is indeed a beautiful perfume. So sad they stopped production!
I hope that you have a long weekend coming up! Time to recharge the batteries…
Anxiously waiting for the holiday weekend. So much needed! ?
Hi everyone! I’m in Gio de Giorgio Armani today, a vintage Ropion confection that smells of candied tuberose. Love this one.
The only Giorgio Armani I’ve ever loved. You smell gorgeous!
I have to agree with you!
Oh my! I am so so jealous of your SOTD! I loved that one ☝️
Where did you score this beauty?
Ah, thank you. I found it at a very small antique store. They must have gotten an estate from a lady who loved her perfume because I got a mostly full bottle of Gio, Tresor, Jil Sander’s No. 9 and Diva.
I did spot a sealed 100ml bottle recently but they were asking maybe $150? I’m not sure that’s much less than the eBay price and anyway was more than I’m usually willing to spend.
Candied tuberose? Wow. What a description.
House of Matriarch Coco Blanc, which is mostly sandalwood on me. Yum.
I really like that one. I find it quite buttery.
Omnia today since I was a rush to get to the bookstore only to find it closed, came back 30 min later still closed. With a toddler in tow is was really frustrating, we went for a croissant in between. Oh well, I will try again tonight
Well, at least there was a consolation croissant involved!
Yes, it was a pain au chocolate for us, and a cappuccino for me
Oh, and I was going to comment that for me it would be a consolation pain au chocolat!!!! You have very good taste!
Passes you a virtual one.
You would love this place near the farmers market. I go in the morning and there is a small french bakery, and when they are opening the store the pain au chocolat is coming right out oven. Its so delicious. I feel like now a days everything is made outside, and few places bake their goods in house.
You are so right about the supremacy of baked goods made on site! Mr. Spicebomb and I were in search of pastries somewhere and ended up at a Starbucks out of desperation. . . I asked if they had any more of something, and the woman pulled out a box, just like you’d find in the cookies aisle at a grocery store, and asked me how many I wanted. I mean, I *know* each franchise isn’t baking their own goodies every day, but something about the lack of SHAME she had for the sourcing of it!!! It really turned me off, and I decided I didn’t need a baked good, after all.
Well, I have a two scents going on right now: I sprayed Bvlgari Magnolia Sensuel this morning as my SOTD, then I proceeded to break my sample of Phlur Siano when I dropped it. I picked up the broken bottle pieces, so now my hands and room smell like Siano.
How do you like the Bvlgari? I’ve never heard of it but love magnolias.
It is a very happy scent. The magnolia is lovely in this.
How vexing! Sample vials can be such slippery little suckers…
I know! The room smells so nice though
Accidental turned slightly intentional pairing of Bvlgari Pour Femme and Bronze Goddess—I now smell how I aspire the weather to be–not a cloud in the sky and pavement warming sunshine. Instead? It is cold, grey, and blech. I’ll defer to the Nobel laureate:
So long honey babe
Where I’m bound, I can’t tell
Goodbye is too good a word, babe
So I just say fare thee well
I ain’t sayin’ you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don’t mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don’t think twice, it’s all right
Very nicely done. Same stupid weather here, plus rain.
Hope it clears up for you. We had the stupid rain this morning, but it’s bright and sunny out now. (I’m sentenced to watching it through my office window until I can get out of work – hopefully a little earlier than usual!)
Hope you have escaped by now! Sun came out here too but humid out there…
Have you tried Diptyque Eau Moheli? That is my sunshine scent, like banana sun tan lotion ( but it doesn’t have banana notes, just ylang ylang). We have sun! But cold. Have a nice weekend
Aedes de Venustas for a sunny day that has a high of 75. My travel spray caught my eye and I realized how long it’s been since I’ve worn it. Wearing another long dress today in celebration of the weather, even though I’ll be inside an office building all day. I got out for a 10 minute walk yesterday afternoon, so I’ll aim for that today. Still haven’t figured out my scent and song pairing for tomorrow though I’ve had a few ideas.
I have not figured out tomorrow either. I know many people hated this project before it even started but I could do this for weeks
If it’s any consolation Robin, I enjoy other’s posts even when it’s not cp I can relate to. There is something for everyone at one point or another.
Good! (And reminds me I need to update the darned project page. Time flies…)
I love the project . We had the Telecasters out last night and rigged up to the amp and watched BD clips…we were The Band. ( only I wasn’t really because it doesn’t count when you are playing D7 with your tongue poking out)
Oh what fun!!
You should do it for weeks if it inspires you!
Happy World Turtle Day! Sea turtles are my favorite animal.
I’m wearing Perfumer H Orange Leaf. I thought it would pair nicely with the spicy-herbal scent of a new hairspray I’m trying out today.
I got caught in a sudden thunderstorm on my walk to work this morning and got pretty well doused, so jury is still out on how well the hairspray actually works ?
Ooh, a hairspray that smells good? Will look forward to a report on how well it works —
Azemour les Orangers, thank you to a lovely swapper! Robin, thank you for those links, bc I’m a huge Dylan fan. ?
So glad you enjoyed them!
I saw Shawn Colvin sing that in concert once, ages & ages ago, it was lovely.
Wearing Nicolai’s Fig Tea today.
I’m usually not a fig scent fan, but this is a really nice one. You smell gooooood.
Thank you, LizzieB!
I love that one! Do you like Miller Harris’ Figue Amere? Another nice fig is Fig & Poppy by Speziali Fiorentini.
And the World is Yours from A Lab On Fire. Off to a rough start this morning, someone made a mess of my desk at work after I left yesterday. Things are missing, turned over, and all out of order like there was a police raid or something. This is why I have so much nice stationary just being hoarded, because I work with a bunch of animals! Just gonna sip my coffee until I’m less annoyed.
Very sorry to hear about your desk raid That must feel like such an awful invasion of privacy, too! At least you smell wonderful.
At least there’s that! The 10ml bottles are a godsend.
Wow. That’s absurd what happened to your desk! Do you have to share a workspace, or do people just disrespect individual property?
The first school I worked in had communal office spaces, where the teachers’ desks were in hubs or “neighborhoods.” As the new guy, my desk was closest to the copy machines, and things were constantly going missing–pens, 3-hole punchers, sticky notes, etc. I had to tuck everything away after each use to avoid having stuff wander off.
It’s semi-shared, I guess? It’s mine when I’m here and the phone goes to a voicemail with my specific voicemail but we’re still open for 6 hours after I leave so people will use my computer for orders ect. Which is fine, just don’t tornado through the drawers!
Hi NSTers. Not a huge Dylan fan, though I LOVE Leonard Cohen. So, CP has me stumped. In L’Artisan L’Eau d’ Ambre Extreme. Shower gel this am was Ambre Fetiche by Annick Goutal. A goodie.
Same here re Dylan and Cohen. Saw Leonard twice and am so very grateful.
Same and I also saw Cohen twice in like 3 years, I think (Radio City and MSG). The Radio City show was awesome. I think I cried, lol.
I never saw him in person. But I always got the impression that he was a consummate professional and artist and a real mensch. A hard act to follow.
Oh, do a song for Leonard Cohen!! I wish I had seen him in concert but I never did.
Hi all, wearing Bvlgari Pour Femme today, it’s gray and cool, I need a touch of sunshine.
House twins ?
Sadly, I think they discontinued Pour Femme, I didn’t hear it mentioned often but I really like it! I drained my bottle of Eau Fraiche, another wonderful but off the radar scent by Bvlgari.
they always get rid of all the good ones!
Gearing up for a long few days. With the holiday and my aunt moving up from Texas this weekend, it’s anxiety inducing. Wearing LADDM today for a little backbone and it’s warm and muggy outside. Hopefully, everything will work out this weekend, with no drama.
LADDM is perfect! Good luck with moving your aunt with minimal drama…
Woke up feeling a bit under the weather- bit of a sore throat and general blah-ness. Gris Clair for me for a grey day and a song pairing for Fade to Grey by Visage (Midge Ure). And this so-bad-it’s-awesome video from 1981:
Hope you feel better.
Oh, you smell wonderful though. Gris Clair really is a perfect grey day fragrance
I agree! I went through a decant from the swap meet and got myself a bottle as a bday gift to me ?
Thanks Petunia! I’m thinking maybe it’s allergies. Not sure…
Mine are bothering me too. I’m feeling tired and dragged out.
Wow. That reminds me of a story I heard some while back. It was an interview with one of the guys from Flock of Seagulls, I think, and they were talking about how no one really knew what to do with music videos or how it was going to change the music scene. So, when they showed up to the set, they hadn’t done anything to their hair. The producer stuck some gel in it, to do *something* different, and that became their signature look!
Makes me laugh to think how green and naive that makes them sound, compared to the uber-produced bands and images we have today. IMO, your video link screams “let’s do this cuz it will look cool” in the same way as Flock of Seagulls hair.
There is a funny Flight of the Conchords episode where they get some hair gel and become cool…and the run out of gel. Worth watching if you remember the 80s
Ha! Great story about a Flock of Seagulls. Trend setters for sure. This video looks like Madonna and Robert Smith got lost at the Renaissance Fair, lol.
This made me laugh out loud!
The perfect scent for a cloudy day, hope you feel better soon!
Get well soon!
Will try! Thanks!
Hope you will recover soon and that lavender helps.
Ah, devenir gris.
Hope you feel better soon!
I hope that you are feeling better now! And thanks for that link… I had never seen that video before, although I am familiar with the song.
I’m in PdEbMusc Tonkin, which I’m pairing with Maggie’s Farm.
Worried about the massive fires in Alberta already. Praying for rain for all the people, forests, and animals there.
Lots of Evernia prunastri up here in these woods!
Is the oak moss growing on pine trees in the woods? Fir trees? Or are you in an oak forest? How cool.
It grows on evergreens and oaks, it’s ubiquitous up here. There are people that forage and sell it. Not sure if it’s edible? Can’t imagine why people would buy it, but it probably has some uses I’m totally unaware of. I thought it was no longer used in perfumery, but I’m probably wrong. According to wiki, it smells different depending on which species of tree is hosting it: “Oakmoss growing on pines have a pronounced turpentine odor that is valued in certain perfume compositions”
I am pretty sure it doesn’t grow in this part of the world. I can’t find it in any reference books or museum specimen collections taken from here
I think it’s limited to the northern hemisphere.
JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt, topped off with Lime Basil Mandarin.
The sun!? Is out!?
My daughter and I are off to do some thrifting.
Ooooo… I went thrifting over the weekend and scored some shoes and clothing items for a little over 200 bucks.
Let me know what you find
?Happy thrifting with your daughter!
Those are some great warm weather scents!
Opardu! My lilacs are blooming and I wanted to smell as good as they do!
Well, you do!
You smell beautiful!
Hurray for lilacs in bloom!
No scent yet as I’m out gardening for the afternoon and I don’t want to be too attractive to the bees! I’m going to put on some Grandiflora Queen of the Night after a shower, though. It’s very summery here and that perfume just hums in the heat, it’s so delightful
Or the mosquitoes…we are getting plenty of those already too.
1) 4 day holiday weekend! WOOT!
2) Am in Amelie Mae- rosy fruity fun!
3) Misty rain and grey but roses are everywhere- even the sweet little wild roses are in bloom.
Lucky ducky on the 4 days! And you smell fun. I like that one, too. It’s kind of similar to Hendley Amora in that fruity fun kinda way.
And my rose bush exploded overnight! Spectacular.
Oh how wonderful- I love how flowers can seemingly bloom overnight!
Next year, my rose bushes will bloom!
No SOTM, yet. I’m slow-moving this morning. Slept nearly 11 hours last night, and I feel like I need more. All this sitting around is wearing me out!
Verdict on yesterday’s YO6-S: didn’t like the “banana” at the top, the electroncis smell intrigued me but is not really me, and then it settled into a faint, safe floral for the remaining few hours. So, I’m grateful I didn’t blindbuy a bottle when it was the topic of conversation here and then there was a magic sale at Luckyscent. Likely, I will try another Blackbird sample today.
I got a Blackbird sample set after what I bet was the same NST discussion… I’m afraid I didn’t love any of them, even the banana one.
It would be nice to support a “local” (well, PNW, anyway) perfumer. I always feel more sheepish when I don’t like the fragrances of folks I might actually encounter at an event or something!
I didn’t love any of the Blackbird perfumes except Targa. I liked Anemone. It was their incense that got me (and my money) good! I have the Targa incense which is great, too.
Hope the fatigue lifts- don’t underestimate the amount of time it takes to recover from a procedure! Take it easy!
Hmm. I will have to reach for one of those to try next, then!
This has been my 6th time under anesthesia, and I have learned that it leaves me sleepy pretty much every time! It surprises me, though, how inconsistent my energy is–I’m feeling good, then I’m totally exhausted, with very little time in between. Hard to guage what “enough” is under those circumstances.
It’s an absolutely gorgeous spring day here, at last. Wearing Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze today to pair with Neil Young Harvest Moon.
Because I’m still in love with you, I want to see you dance again
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon.
One of my favorite love songs!
Love that whole album, nice choice.
Loving my summer work scent, Chanel Beige. so much beautiful honey. Am avoiding sugar lately, so this helps ?
that one is a beauty
I’m testing Cedre Sambac. I was expecting more Cedre and less Sambac, so I am pleasantly surprised to be finding the opposite!
In Nishane Ani today. It’s creamy and spicy like chai latte.
Ooh. I LOVE a good spicy, tea scent! Tell me more! . . .
Imagine a rooibos with sweet condensed milk and spices like saffron, turmeric, cinnamon. It has this sort of vibe
Sounds incredible! I’m truly always game for a spicy scent.
And there’s something so wonderful and comforting about “milky” notes in perfume. The only Jo Malone I *nearly* purchased was a limited edition “milk” scent that was supposed to be layered with their limited edition tea line. . . but it was just too faint to justify the money, imo.
One more cup of Lush cardamon coffee before I go
To the valley below
…to meet Gaynor for coffee and perfume sniffing.
Happy Friday! Happy birthday Bob! May you stay forever young ( Youth Dew!)
Oh clever, enjoy your perfume expedition.
Have fun sniffing!
Well done, Kanuka!
Nice! Hope you find something worthwhile to sniff!
Back once again in Prada Infusion d’Iris Cedre….it lives in my purse, so sometimes it’s the only option once I wake up and get where I’m going! It always works! Definitely full bottle worthy at some point….
I keep a rollerball of Attrape Coeur in my purse. It is almost always right. This has me wondering what other folks keep in their bags for those unscented moments that they suddenly realize they need to be scented!?
OJ Frangipani for the first time since last summer. Welcome back, old friend.
I got an announcement that they made an “intense” version of that this year. . . was wondering what that was like. I love OJ Fragripani, but it lasts about a millisecond on me.
I’d love to see intense version. This regular lasts decently in me, but I’m generous on my sprays.
The pupper and I met a turtle on our walk this morning. I convinced her it wouldn’t be a good idea to investigate, but she really wanted a piece of that turtle. ?
I sprayed some AG Rose Splendide before the walk, and resprayed when we got back. Very pretty, but not nearly long lasting enough to be bottle worthy. ?
Little puppers are SO curious! Sounds like a great walk, sorry the perfume didn’t last.
I’m wearing both Cap Néroli and Néroli Intense. Not sure song it would fit. Something sunny and beautiful.
You don’t need a song since you’re wearing a neroli symphony ? You smell fantastic!
In Jo loves Red Truffles which is becoming a favorite fig, very aromatic, maybe BD likes figs
Well why wouldn’t he, LOL…
Wearing Carnal Flower today, and I’ll probably miss the CP tomorrow, as I’m on a plane at 6 am to Chicago for much sniffing with some Basenotes folks. There’s a Barney’s so I’m hoping to smell all the Sisleys and Odins, plus the modern Givenchys (though I am prepared to be disappointed).
Have fun in Chicago foxbins!!
I think the Nordstrom there has the Mugler Les Exceptions line, one of 2 U.S. stores that carry it, the other one being the one in Seattle.
Have a safe flight!
Safe travels and enjoy sniffing in Chi-town. I’d love to hear what you find!
I’m visiting my mother for a few days and looking forward to catching up with Kanuka later this morning.
I brought some samples with me and I’m testing Lux, by Mona di Orio. I’m not sure about this one, it starts off bright and lemony, and 30 minutes later seems a bit flat. I don’t get the musk that lots of reviewers do, but it’s not grabbing me.
Didn’t grab me either, but I don’t seem to be a big fan of MdO in general.
Enjoy your visits with both your mom and Kanuka!
Song of the Day is “Jammin’ Me” by Tom Petty. It was co-written by Bob Dylan. That’s as close as I can get to the CP today.
It’s been a crazy day so far. I was up at 4am to take Mr. Jalapeno to the airport. (I did not need to get up quite that early, but for whatever reason, my body decided otherwise.) He had an 8am flight that was, unfortunately, delayed. So we could have slept a little later, had we known. I did have a nap after getting back from the airport, but don’t really feel rested. Pretty sure my circadian rhythm is a little scrambled from all the hijinks.
SOTD = Oeillet Louis XV EdP again. It was easiest to grab what I had worn yesterday.
Ugh, hope you will get back on track tonight — that is EARLY.
At one point today, I couldn’t remember if it was Thursday or Friday. I’m staying up to my usual bedtime in the hope that I will reset overnight.
Hope you can sleep well tonight.
Very thankful I do NOT have to be up at oh-stupid-thirty tomorrow morning!
Still sad about Tom Petty’s untimely passing.
Hello NSTers. I am reporting from Positano, Italy! I ended up hiking a good part of the Path of the Gods and cut it off at Nocelle as the next segment would have been some 1,000 steps down (uh-uh). I took the bus from Nocelle to Positano and walked to the hotel. Total steps almost 19,000, “floors” 60?. To say I was exhausted was an understatement! NB for jalapeño – no, I don’t have a step count reward goal this time around; however, if I lose 5 pounds from all these walking and hiking, I may reward myself with something special.
Today was a free day (I think we all needed the rest) and we spent the day in Capri. We took a high speed ferry from Positano to Capri Island, took the funicular to Anacapri, then a chairlift up to the top of the island – the views were stunning! We shared a cab ride back to the marina with 2 ladies from Austria and for some recommendations if I decide to go to Austria one of these days.
After reading the hiking directions for tomorrow I have decided to skip it and will decide what to do.
Since my Friday is arriving sooner than most, I decided to participate in the Community Project today! SOTD = Atelier Cedrat Enivrant and Bergamot Soleil. These scents are perfect for this part of Italy, with lemon groves all over. The tie in is Beyonce’s “Upgrade U” which mentions something about island hopping off the Amalfi Coast. I am so not into Beyoncé and only knew of her tie in with Capri when my sister made an off-hand comment about wondering where Beyonce’s yacht docks. I’ve never heard the song and reading the lyrics were just ummm, not very coherent.
Tomorrow, we move to a B&B at the Marina del Cantone which happens to house a 1 Michelin star restaurant. We have reservations!
‘Til the next time…Friday is coming sooner than you think!
If I had a yacht, I would totally dock it in that part of the world. . . ?????
Gosh, your trip sounds so romantic and beautiful. I like how you don’t have to do the hikes too, only if you want to.
Wow. Based on your step counts so far, I think that my legs would probably have fallen off! It all sounds wonderful, though. I’m enjoying my armchair travels thanks to your posts.
Wearing Pacifica Spanish Amber and humming “Boots of Spanish Leather” and thinking some handsome, seafaring person could certainly rock this fragrance.
Spanish Amber is SO good!
SotD = Hiris
Thursday’s dose of Hiris hits the spot! Love love love it.
Also loving new-to-me music from Thievery Corporation called Depth of My Soul. Love it too, it’s a good match for Hiris.
Have a listen, you might love it too.
Hi, NST folks!
I had seen some discussion here about what perfumes from Pacifica had appeared and disappeared lately from stores and their website. When I saw some bottles at Whole Foods on Tuesday I got French Lilac and Island Vanilla. I’m sure I’ll like the lilac. Today I wore Island Vanilla. I really like this one.
Oh thanks for the heads up on finding some of those Pacificas at Whole Foods! If I am feeling ambitious maybe I will check out the one near me.
Some of the Pacifica perfumes are back on their website. Not sure if it will be for a limited time.
Long day today. The memorial day shoppers are out in full force. I wore Superstitious, and matched it to the song Can’t you hear me Knocking. This song was featured in the movie Casino. I think Sharon Stone would have worn Superstitious at the beginning of the movie.
Good luck in dealing with all those shoppers lillyjo!
Put on L’Attesa from my purse stash tonight. I have a few sprays left in my sample; more is more with this one. Might need another decant soon!
Happy Almost Friday, everyone.
You smell great! I’m the opposite with L’attesa, I under spray.
Thanks lillyjo! It’s a great fragrance.
I seem to be an over-sprayer usually; go big or go home!
It looks like L’Atessa is a must have in our iris collection! Such a beautiful perfume!
Spent the day in Ineke Gilded Lily. Now have Zoologist Camel on right arm, Chameleon on left.
Looking forward to 3 days off! Then next weekend I have 5 days in a row (going to San Diego for a wedding). Woo!
Enjo your trip to San Diego! What perfumes are you taking with you and what will you wear on the wedding day?
Dress is a cap sleeve, fit-and-flare to the knees in a blue that doesn’t have a standardized name: it’s not dark enough to be navy, it’s not royal, it’s a bit dusty, not bright, not light, not teal… very pretty though and great with my coloring!
For the perfume wardrobe, I haven’t figured that one out yet. I have a load of samples, purse sprays, and some empty 5ml sprays ready to be decanted into.
Wedding is late afternoon into evening at a rural rustic chic venue. Rehearsal the night before is more casual: a beach side Mexican restaurant. Recommendations welcome if anyone’s got ‘em!
