Hump Day, Chocolate Chip Day, International Day of Families and Peace Officers Memorial Day. RIP Tim Conway. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Arielle Shoshana Saturday, aka Arielle Shoshana Eau de Parfum. 10 ml, $26.
Reminder: on 5/17, it's the cheap thrills special, brought back by request. Wear something that costs $50 or below, double bonus points if it costs $25 or below. No points for wearing something expensive that you bought cheaply via a sample or decant or somesuch! We're trying to find real bargains here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Tim Conway was a great comedian, I always enjoyed his stuff, RIP.
Wearing Encens Mythique while I psyche myself up for another day.
You smell great!
You do smell great, and Tim Conway was hilarious.
Ditto in TC. They don’t make comedians like they used to, at least here in the US. I have a big love for many UK based comedians.
Tim Conway’s passing was such a huge loss. And I agree, they don’t make them like they used to. Especially the old Vaudeville and Borscht belt entertainers.
Tim Conway was a genius. Anyone who can make both kids and adults laugh has a special gift/talent for it.
Wearing Lady Gaga Eau de Gaga. Another beautiful cheap thrill. Green tea and lots of violets. Easy to wear and office friendly. Thank you to Ellebe who shared her love for it with me.
Finally a sunny spring day! Hope days like this last for a while!
So glad you are finally getting a spring day!
A break is happily welcomed! ???☀️???
Good one!
It is!
You smell understated and pulled together, EdG is definitely a cheap thrill.
Thank you! It is so pretty, refreshing and affordable!
Perfumelover, I smelled John Galliano EDP today. Selective Beauty product, quirky bottle, the real deal. My take on it, is that I really couldn’t describe it any better than this review. (Link posted, Robin can delete it if it is not NST policy) http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scentedsalamander/2007/03/john_galliano_will_launch_sign.html
I hope your search yields an affordable bottle!
Sorry, wrong link! This one!
http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scentedsalamander/2008/10/john_galliano_eau_de_parfum_pe.html
And then I replied to myself!
Here is the link http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scentedsalamander/2008/10/john_galliano_eau_de_parfum_pe.html
Thank you for the link Amyitis! It describes exactly how the perfumes smells. Did you get the bottle?
So nice today! Hope you got to be outside- I spent most of today indoors ?
I spent some time outside today and it was beautiful and invigorating!
I wonder if Lady Gaga is done with the perfume?
Or Coty is done with her.
It looks like!
Red Door EDT Elizabeth Arden
Lots of flowers with fortifying wood beneath. The smell of your least-liked boss.
“The smell of your least-liked boss.” Great line. Haven’t smelled this one, and yet now I do—or do I?
LOL….Not sure I wanna smell like that?
LOL, so True!
I did love it on my Grandmother, she wore Blue Grass, White Linen and Red Door.
Bear, have you tried Red Door Velvet by Elizabeth Arden? A more patchouli-forward velvety version of Lovely (without the dry floral narcissus note).
No SmokeyToes, but I imagine it would be similar to Coco Mademoiselle . Yes ? No?
Nope, thankfully, no fruitchooli note.
It’s more of a Musky/Patchouli/Green floral. I think I purchased my 3.4 oz bottle for $28 bucks. Super cheap!
This is a line! HA!
I once had a mean boss who wore Red Door. It was good, because I could always tell where she was, and avoid going in the same direction! Are you wearing the original? The newer one does not project the same.
Yes, the clear bottle with the domed red cap.
I don’t dislike it, but I don’t like it either. Kinda like kale. ?
LOL, that was too funny, I nearly spit out my coffee.
Thanks for the laugh about kale. You made my day!
When I was between college and grad school I worked as a counselor at a 24/7 runaway shelter in SF. My boss, Wendell, was horrible. His degree, I kid you not!, was in mortuary science. He would wear a ton of cologne, and positively exuded condescension and passive aggression. I think Red Door would have been a blessing in his stead!
Oh, Red Door brings me waaaay back. I wore that when I was 17/18 and loved it. A powerhouse of a scent.
Very pithy review! It made me smile. ?
Omnia this morning..
Latte I made at home..
In a plaid shirt and jeans today with a red hat inspired by those Gucci sining in the rain ads.
I ran out of my usual department store face cream and stopped by the regular pharmacy to pick one up in the interim. I grabbed an Olay cream, and I am shocked on how good it is. I usually have turned up my nose at these brands, now I am wondering what my wallet has been missing out on..money saved (for more perfume)
Really good and the whips feel like magic on your face.
ok! I just got the regular cream but I will look out of these whips if they go on sale. which one do you prefer?
The one with spf
Ditto this!
Thank you Deva and apsara for the tip
Smelling fine! ??
I actually prefer the Olay eye cream (in the red tube) over some of the more pricey stuff! The Olay Whips line is pretty good too….
Thanks for the tip <3
There are some shockingly good buys at the drugstore that really rival some more expensive stuff.
yes, like mascara..I have gotten some really good recommendations on this feed for drugstore brand mascaras.
I’ve bought $$$ mascara, $ mascara and my favorite are the free samples!
OJ Ta’if because it’s just beautiful.
It is!
Two for the CP.
First, I dabbed Zara Accord No 2 Oriental, which I already reviewed on Monday. Zara scents are very cheap (under $20). Unfortunately, this one seems to be discontinued.
Later I dabbed a bit of EL Beautiful (0.5 oz EDP spray – $30, 1 oz. EDP spray – $59, 0.2 oz EDP rollerball – $28.00 on EL website). I admire this perfume but find it too ‘old-school’ for me, so I’ll probably pass the sample to my mother.
By the way, have you seen the current Fragrance Treasures gift set? Looks lovely and would me a good present for an EL fan.

*me = make
Work today will require a firmer backbone than usual, so on goes Paloma Picasso edt.
All the old-school chypres are guaranteed to give you some spine — they make you feel like standing up straight, squaring your shoulders, and getting the job done (whatever that job happens to be).
A no nonsense power scent for sure. I found a bottle at TJMaxx for $15 a few years ago.
Sweet! I do adore Paloma Picasso.
I’ll be out of town on Friday so I’m doing my cheap thrill today, and so I’m wearing (20-year-old, not quite vintage but not *not* vintage) Old Spice, very cheap and very thrilling — it has a reputation as a granddad sort of scent but it is fantastic, delicious gasoliney carnations and heady warmth. (And it is a shockingly cold day for mid-May, so I could use some warmth.)
I love Old Spice! My father wore it for years.
Gasoliney carnations! Sold.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Old Spice. Reminds me of my grandpa. I bought a bottle for my hubs in hopes that I’ll catch a whiff of it every now and then!
Old spice brings back so many memories…
Yes for me too, of an old boyfriend who wore it, and hence I never want to smell it again, ha ha!
I got a bottle of Old Spice a year or so ago to be reminded of my grandfather, and it turned out to be aftershave rather than the cologne. I just passed the aftershave and a bottle of 4711 along to my brother. I’ve got to tell him about that 27.1 oz. bottle of 4711, in case he really, really likes it.
Great pick.
I’m in Dior Homme, one of my favorite cheap thrills. And it’s good for today’s weather, which is windy and a bit rainy, and chilly but not outright cold.
Such a gorgeous fragrance! It was literally the best thing I smelled while at Ulta last week.
You smell great! And perfect for cold, dreary weather.
Happy Hump day all! My SOTD is vintage Chanel No. 19 – greens, iris and leather.
In celebration of Chocolate chip day, I made double-chocolate, chocolate chip GF cookies for my coworkers.
Lucky co-workers! And you smell great.
Thanks!

All the cookies have disappeared. It must one of ‘those’ days…
Wow! Wish you worked with me
YUM to this whole post! Both No. 19 and those cookies!
Sunshine today, yay! SOTD is Agent Provacateur, I bought my bottle last fall for under $25 shipped on Google Marketplace.
I love that one.
No cheap thrills for me today unless you count just buying a decant vs. full bottle
SOTD: Kismet
Sunshine, finally! NYC weather has been brutal for Spring lovers, just brutal. Hoping to cut out by 5 pm to get a jog in the park later today.
yesterday we turned on our heat…not good for this time of year!
You smell wonderful. Kismet reminds me of Shalimar Light I realize with subsequent wearings…but more patchouli and oomph somehow. ?
Yes, I’d agree on the Shalimar-light but, it’s still its own scent.
On point with the CP in Queen. Can’t remember exactly how much I paid for this (huge) bottle, but it was around $15. One of my top 10, for sure. For some reason, the fact that this is so cheap and I enjoy it so much gives me a great deal of satisfaction. I always feel a bit guilty when I wear some fragrances that are at the higher end of my spending limits. It must have something to do with catholic school and my mother?
Moby’s getting new shoes today and I’m stoked! I found a place to inspect him, and everything looks great except my power steering fluid needs to be replaced and my brakes lubed.
Can’t wait to be in the Land of the Midnight Sun?
You smell great!
Yay for your whole post! For Queen, and new “shoes, everything!
Started with Aqua Allegoria Rosa Pop (TJ Maxx) which drifted off immediately, so I grabbed my Tauer Rose Flush oil ($25), put that underneath and now I have a sparkly berry rose that is actually hanging in there.
You smell fabulous. I’d love to find a Guerlain at TJ Maxx!
My tj maxx just started carrying some Guerlains, but not very inexpensive unless they go on clearance.
Oh bummer, so I guess there’s no need for me to be too envious!
I once did find, and bought, Mitsouko at TJ Maxx!
!!!! That is incredible!
Silences! So cheap, so thrilling, especially for a recent galbanum convert like me. Getting lots of hyacinth today. I thunked my mini but luckily it looks like a FB is… $18??? OKAY!
Speaking of Arielle Shoshana, I saw that she made her kickstarter goal! Don’t forget to go enter your shipping address if you were a backer.
Silences is a beauty, you smell wonderful.
So…your no-buy/low-buy is…over?
Er… well yes, but I am sticking very closely to my budget and being a lot more selective about what I buy… I probably won’t actually buy Silences. Yet.
Hahaha. Well, if it’s $18, it’s perfumath free, right?
You smell verdant, Regina, I love Silences and yes, it’s definitely a bargain.
I’m a backer and I’ve submitted! Excited to try this but the wait is a long one.
So was your mini of Silences vintage, or was it new-ish?
Less than 3 years old… oh no, are you about to give me a new vintage must-try?
I was wondering what to look for online. I haven’t even seen a single bottle of Silences in my area.
Enjoying everyone’s choices today. I’m racking up bonus points in SJP Covet. Pretty sure I paid less than $10 for my bottle 6-7 years ago.
Covet is a great choice for spring and summer! I liked it a lot when it came out, but just couldn’t get past the bottle. There was something about it I hated.
I’m wearing Tea for Two, which was definitely less than $50.
You smell so good.
Doing another cheapie today…..Rise by Beyonce. $4.00, Walgreens, after Christmas clearance again.
MEH. Standard fare vanilla sweet celebrity scent, that only lasted about 45 minutes. But for $4.00, my expectations are met!
LouLou. 30ml can be easily had for less than $20.
LouLou is a great cheap thrill!
Bvlgari Black for the CP today. Still love it.
Bvlgari house twins
♥
It’s such a good one.
I get the Fortune Cookie Soap subscription service, and most months it comes with a perfume oil, so I’ve got plenty to choose from there for the CP. Today it’s Paradise Lost, a light fruity floral. Not super noteworthy, but the roller has little petals in it so at the very least it’s cute.
Cross- country flight today, hoping to be kind to my seating companions with a Bulgari au the vert… Found at a Goodwill but one of my favorites!
House twins!
That is a good flight scent. I’d happily sit by you.
Hermes Neroli Dore
Good morning, NST folks!
Started out with 7 Virtues Middle East Peace. Although I swapped with Rayleighblue for a partial bottle, I don’t think the whole bottle is that expensive.
I may put on some of the Demeter chocolate chip cookie cologne later, in honor of chocolate chip day. Seems appropriate.
It’s not so expensive, but also not so cheap. You smell lovely, though! A kind NSTer sent me a sample of the stuff, and it smells really comforting and bright!
Thanks.
I like Middle East Peace a lot.
Mom and I did celebrate Chocolate Chip Day with a trip to an Entenmann’s outlet. We got milk chocolate chip cookies and a chocolate chip loaf cake.
My scent of the evening is the Demeter chocolate chip cookie cologne. My sense of smell is okay this evening, and the fragrance seems relatively accurate.
At $12 for an ounce, it’s a cheap thrill.
I’ll have to wear Eau de Gaga on Thursday or Friday, since that got mentioned above as inexpensive.
I’ve been able to post more regularly lately, and follow some of the projects when I happen to have samples that fit that week’s theme — or in this case, small bottles of cheap perfumes. (lol)
I’m at a loss to try to figure out something that would go with Bob Dylan’s birthday. My folks will be able to name songs of his, but feel free to give me ideas for that, NST folks.
For World No Tobacco Day, I do have some smoky perfumes, in the sense of incense smoke. I used to hang out with the cigarette smokers among family and friends to chat, though I don’t personally smoke. In recent years, I’ve become quite allergic to tobacco, and now it gives me coughing fits.
I like the scent of clove cigarettes burning, although I’ve heard that those are quite rough on the lungs of the people who smoke them.
Penhaligon’s Castile today, so not fitting in the CP at all. I am mostly wearing it because I’m working from home, hanging out with a leetle asthmatic kitty, so I needed something from a dabber. It’s nice, but it smells like very nice soap more than anything. Maybe I just think that because of the name, and because of my penchant for orange blossom body products.
I feel fairly confident that my no-buy will end on Sunday! I know I shouldn’t get cocky; I initially thought my no-buy would end today, until I fell dramatically off the wagon over the weekend. I feel good about it this time, though!
Hi, Koyel, just wanted to chime in because I didn’t have time when you initially talked about your kitten having asthma – mine used to, and the asthma was exacerbated greatly by the type of kitty litter I used. I switched to a non-clay litter, and that helped a lot.
Oh no!!! Wow, that’s good to know. Thanks for the advice; I’ll look into that!
Did you report in on your ring shopping yet?
I did, Calypso! We picked a ring on Sunday. We went back to a gallery in Monterey that we visited on a Valentine’s weekend trip. There’s a ring there that we had fallen in love with. It looks like a calla lily, which is a flower that is special to our relationship. It’s also unusual for an engagement ring, and I wanted something a bit different. I won’t get it for another month because it’s getting sized in Italy (it’s by an artist in Florence), but check it out here: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/88/00/53/880053cde773857f18315286226fed62.jpg
Wow, I’m sorry I missed the first time, but that’s fabulous! It’s so unusual and the lily theme does make it seem very right and special for you two. Like you, I’m a big fan of rose gold. Made in Italy is always great, too, for gold jewelry!
Thanks Calypso <3
Koyel I missed this the first time, I’m glad you reposted, that ring is breathtaking!
Thanks, ringthing
So proud your no-buy is almost over!
Thank you, KellyC <3 I'm also very proud of your own journey!!!
Yay on the end of the no-buy, what is in your sights?
Well, I kiiiiiind of already got something, sort of–the Arielle Shoshana Kickstarter set with the two travel sprays! It was permitted because Kickstarters are special
That’s all for now; this no-buy has made me realize how much amazing stuff I already have, and that it’s irresponsible for me to spend as much of my money on perfume as I had been. And with an asthmatic kitten…. Besides, the one perfume that I had been dyyyying for (Camel) was given to me by a superkind NSTer! So probably just decants if anything, for now
Oh, so it doesn’t even really count, because it was funding for the arts, that qualifies as a charitable donation in my book.
But yes, my no-buy has had the same effect on me: realizing I already have a ton of great stuff and I really don’t need more.
Heh. My fiancé, aka the Enforcer of the No-Buy, feels it counts despite the fact that it was a charitable donation for the arts. It was really very generous of him to permit me to engage in the Kickstarter despite the no-buy. It was only permitted because of my good behavior and clear evidence of positive motivation!
You DO have a lot of great stuff! I always love seeing what you are wearing. Usually, if I haven’t sniffed what you’re wearing, I mark it mentally as something I’d like to sniff, because I think our tastes are pretty similar.
I’ve also got to take time to appreciate the good stuff I already have, from samples and decants and various mini bottles, plus the occasional larger bottle. Someone recently mentioned that they’d gotten a number of perfumes from the “100 fragrances” for perfumistas to try list. I realized I’d gotten samples of many of the fragrances on the “25 rose perfumes” list, and bottles of the ones noted as “cheap” rose fragrances on that list. I’ve been keeping a list of the fragrances I’ve been acquiring, but I need to get the samples sorted by main note, or perfume house or such, rather than where I ordered them from or who I got the samples from. Or in addition to that way of sorting.
Ooh, exciting! Now are there any limits once your no-buy ends, or do you get to buy EVERYTHING you’ve passed up this year?
Hahaha. NO! Not the second one! I haven’t figured out what the limits are, but I need to have limits in place. The good news is that the no-buy has made me much more thoughtful about what I buy, not unlike how cautious I was when I was a grad student and had no money. I think I will need to institute a low monthly perfume allowance, maybe $30/month INCLUDING any shipping/materials for swaps and such (that money adds up!). So that would mean I could buy a new bottle every few months. Maybe $1/day? So if I wanted to get, say, a Memo bottle, that would put me out of buying commission for most of a year.
I have an asthmatic kitty too…..some nights I really do worry about him! He really appears to be struggling, but the vet tells me it sounds worse than it is? Every time the vet checks him, he assures me he’s ok. Anyway, I’ve tried changing the litter, keeping my perfume spraying away from him, and all that kind of stuff. He keeps right on coughing and wheezing…..
Oh no
I can’t believe how common this is!! I had no idea! Could it be allergies? Surely there is allergy medication for cats, or bronchodilators in pill form? Poor kitty!
I have to give a round of steroid tablets from time to time when it’s really bad…..that used to be a real chore! Now he swallows them with no problem! (Guess he realized he would lose the battle every time.)
You actually can do inhalers on cats! There’s a mask that fits the cat’s muzzle to let them inhale the mist for a minute or two. My buddy is not quite that bad off yet for us to battle over THAT! LOL
Here’s a pic of King Gandalf, way back in his younger kitty days….he’s in charge around here!
https://www.instagram.com/p/BmLjMsHHPzj/
oh my GOODNESS what a cutie!!! Our kitty is grey too (but long-haired). What a little king he is. Our kitties would like sitting in the sink, too, but since moving to our new apartment two years ago, I have forbidden it because of the resulting proximity of butts to toothbrushes.
We did get an inhaler with a muzzle, but haven’t used it yet. As you say, that will be quite a battle
>.>
He’s beautiful! Gray cats are my favourites. He looks like my Teddy. Good luck to both of you with your poor asthmatic kitties.
Koyel, that is a beautiful ring! I missed the original post, so thank you for that link today.
Also a human with an asthmatic kitty. And she uses the AeroKat inhaler. It was difficult getting her used to it. Persistence pays off, though! She still doesn’t like it one bit, but she knows that I won’t give up when it’s time for her to get a dose.
Awww poor baby
I had no idea asthmatic kittens were so prevalent!! And thank you
I’m in Zegna Peruvian Ambrette. I hated this the first time I tried it, but I warmed up to it quickly going through a sample.
What makes it Peruvian, I wonder?
I really don’t know!
Well, not going with the CP.
Meeting old friends for coffee, so I am going to wear Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay. Fruity, to please everyone, with those greenish bay leaves to cut the sweetness.
It’s raining here, on the coast of California, in mid-May!!’
It smells delicious outside!!
Petrichor! It’s oddly overcast here in the Cali desert today, and we might get some of that wondrous smell this afternoon…….
I adore Blackberry & Bay. You smell great.
Thanks!
Mon Exclusif today…iris, lavender and vanilla…oh my!
My almost six year old has not watched The Wizard of Oz yet and I am thinking I may break it out this weekend. One can only handle so much Pokémon… ?
Loooove Wizard of Oz! Yay!
You smell lovely.
Those flying monkeys wrecked me for years. ?
Same!
Me too. The subject of many nightmares when I was little. Those monkeys were creepy!
It was a tossup between the flying monkeys and Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch! She was SCARY! ?
She was pretty hardcore as far as witches go. The first time I saw it on TV was the first time I realized on an emotional level people can be total fakes. I was astounded. I guess I’m pretty slow. ?
I will say the first book of McGuires (Wicked), which I read as an adult, totally had me empathizing with the Wicked Witch and kicking Dorothy to the curb. I would have happily picked up my little friend Toto and hustled my way out of the Emerald City, aka Cukoo Town.
Not kidding, it is my longest recurring nightmare.
I remember watching “The Wizard of Oz” on TV when I was little. Parts were scary for me, including the Wicked Witch of the West.
Deva mentioned Gregory McGuire’s book “Wicked.” Reading that series gave me nightmares. I like a protagonist I can sympathize with, and the Cowardly Lion, for instance, was pretty awful. Other point of view characters were also awful people or creatures. It nearly spoiled the Oz books for me. I haven’t seen the play “Wicked,” but from what I understand it has a more positive ending.
I read a number of the Oz books when I was perhaps ten or so, possibly younger. For children nowadays, I’d include context around turn-of-the-century ideas about colonialism and suffragettes, among other topics.
Sensuous Nude today which is definitely under $50 at the discounters. This one is such a great, no-brainer. I really enjoy it on warm days especially!
Sensuous Nude is so enjoyable, a good weather scent for me.
for me too.
This is a gem.
I couldn’t smell Sensuous Nude when I tried it. I knew that something was there, but I didn’t get any scent at all.
It is a good one, smelling great!
I was up early before work and pulled that one out (along with others) for the rest of the week. I could do a few days with cheap thrills easily!
Good call — didn’t know it could be had so cheaply.
In Caron Montaigne today, I had bought three 30ml bottles for £20 some years back, gifted two and kept one. It certainly isn’t Caron’s best perfume, but today it reminds me a little bit of my beloved Farnesiana, it must be the mimosa, so I’m enjoying it more although it’s way sweeter than Farnesiana.
Wow, I didn’t think any Caron could be bought that cheaply!
It must have been available for a short time only, but yes it’s quite stupendous and they made nice presents. I’ve used that site Direct Cosmetics several times since as they are honest and reliable. Right now they have the Jean Patou Heritage Collection and I’m hesitating to get a BUB of Vacances.
Will sit on my hands to avoid going to Direct Cosmetics
SOTD = Maria Candida Gentile Sideris
Incense, benzoin, resins, appropriate for a coolish day. I have the 15mL bottle. just the perfect size. I’ll consider it a bargain under $50 as J din’t recall How much U paid for it but I am sure some kind of discount was involved ?
On the subject of bottle size and which size to get, there are some people who would usually opt to get the smaller size (budget, size of collection and how often it will get used) vs larger size (more juice, lower cost per mL). Based on the likelihood that I won’t be using the perfume much due to collection size and fickleness, I would opt for the smaller size. For those who primarily look at price per mL, I suggest you gross up the cost per mL by the % of the bottle you may end up not using. For example, if you are debating between $30 for 30mLs vs $80 for 100mLs, at first glance, the 100mL is a better bargain since you are essentially getting a 20% discount per mL ($1 vs $0.80). If you then factor in that you will end up using 75% of the 100mL, calculate the grossed up amount by dividing the price per mL by .75 ($0.80 / .75) = $1.07 so you are actually paying more per mL than if you had bought the 30mL – ???. Math class over ?
? You lost me at “For example,..” lol! Can you manage my money for me? Pretty sure you would manage it much better than I do. Sideris sounds fabulous- I love me some benzoin!
You are good! I’ve never calculated that far out but quite a smart idea.
Mathematically, you are correct, but those of us who have FORO and/or FOR (fear of running out/fear of reformulation, no matter how unfounded) and prefer the esthetics and fondling pleasure of 100ml bottles, will go for the emotional payoff vs. the financial one.
I would put FOMO and FOR as reasons for getting the larger size. I would also do it for the sheer pleasure of the luxury of having a larger size. The math is for the segment of the population who are “motivated” by the lower price per mL, at initial glance.
My brain exploded. ?
That is such a good reminder. Thanks for this calculation, which I kind of knew intuitively but couldn’t convince my brain of until just now!
But if you’re using 75% of 100ml that’s actually 2x 30ml bottles plus 15ml…so potentially another 30ml with half not used. Also, exchange rathes and postage can add a great deal…so buying two 30ml bottles , plus another 15ml in two packages, shipped is a lot more expensive than one.
It’s math, not calculus ?
This assumes a choice of which size bottle to purchase without trying to build up to the volume of the other. That said, there are some occasions when building to a certain volume may be a more cost effective solution. I have an example which I brought to Koyel’s attention a month or so back, but she did not bite — she was very disciplined about her no-buy.
My favorite size bottle is the 1.7 oz. It’s just the right size to hold. I like the 1 oz though for throwing in my purse.
I got a HUGE grin on my face reading your latest Perfumath lesson. I tend to get 30mL bottles whenever possible, since I am a light sprayer. I haven’t used up a bottle of perfume since maybe 2006?
I pretty much followed the math lesson, surprisingly enough.
I’m finding that an ounce-sized bottle is plenty for me with perfumes I like, and even mini sizes are fine for perfumes I wear every so often. I couldn’t have done the math, but thank you for doing it for us.
Since I am going to work a little later than normal, I just finished the last of the cleaning and now relaxing for a half an hour before going to work. Parents will be back in town later today and I am wearing Deneuve today.
Wow, the time went fast! For me anyway, lol.
WEDNESDAY!
1) Am in Anatomy of a Fragrance Eau De Parfum Wild Fig, which is very nice and about $30! I think it should still be available in stores.
2) My herbs are doing nicely- but am still wait for the bulbs to sprout!
If it’s Wild Fig, I would probably like it
I’m in Guerlain Cologne du 68, or at least I was 10 minutes ago. Allegedly.
Oh well, I can spray something else, now!
Headed to the gym. I took a 40 minute walk yesterday, and Maggie cried and yapped the whole time I was gone. Hubby is armed with a tennis ball and a Kong toy loaded with peanut butter, so I’m hoping it goes well. ?
Le Parfum du 68 has much better lasting power, but it is also rather different in smell. My puppy cries when I go out too. They love us so much.
Thanks for the tip on the Le Parfum. It looks like there is immortelle in the mix, and I have trouble with that note, unfortunately.
I think it is harder for me to leave my little angel. She gives the obligatory howl and probably has the best time.
Hope it worked out for you!
It went fine! Her papa kept her busy. ?
I’m sure she’ll relax as time goes on. Do you know anything about her history?
That’s the appeal of a quick cologne spritz. A blast of “Wake Up!” then a long silence, lol!
It was an owner surrender. The lady was evicted from her home, so she did the very difficult, but right thing in giving them to the rescue.
The other dog she surrendered is actually Maggie’s mother (who had just weaned a litter), so I’m sure our pup is missing her, and possibly the little ones that were running around, too. It’s such a sad situation.
She did great this afternoon, though. She’s a very happy dog and we are just in love with her. ?
That is sad! So happy she didn’t dump them somewhere. Now at least they all have a fighting chance. Hopefully, they will all end up like Maggie ??
Congratulations on your new pup! Yay you for giving a shelter dog a forever home. ??
Wearing Chanel #19. I got this at an estate sale, so I don’t know the formulation. All I know is the smell is spring itself.
Nice
My CP participation today is a good one–I’m wearing L’Heure Bleue from a bottle I bought in an antique store in Goshen, Indiana, for (I believe) the grand sum of $16! It was one-third full, but still smells fine! It’s an older style bottle with a glass stopper, but not the bee bottle kind.
That is a good find. Have you finished all your marking?
Thank heavens, yes!! Just have a few to finish off from several students who (as always) managed to submit work at the very last minute after I’d agreed for various reasons to accept it late. Ugh. I gave them “I” grades (Incomplete) but have to change them soon.
I’m glad you’re almost done. The results of a major survey of university academics was just released here – 40% feel pressured to give students higher marks than they deserve, and a similar percent of academics feel pressured to admit substandard students to their courses. Pretty dismal. Good luck with your “I” grades!
How romantic! Finding an old bottle of L’heure Bleue would make my heart go pitter-patter ?
Very nice find on that antique L’HB!
CP- Zadig and Voltaire This is Her: vanilla, chestnut, sandalwood . This is one of those perfumes that is often cheaper in a coffret ( with a cosmetic purse, hurray) than off the shelf. Definitely winter here with rain lashing the windows and the wind rumbling. I usually sleep with the curtains and windows open so I can see the sky and hear the owl but last night was the first full closure of the year. Also , the leaves have blown off the trees.
That perfume sounds nice, haven’t had a chance to sniff it but the notes are appealing. Spring is late so we still have a lot of naked trees too. I love sleeping with the windows open too, but still too cold.
Wearing Atelier Cologne Iris Rebelle. A more budget-friendly iris than Iris 39, for sure.
Busy day back working in the office. Like some others before we this week, I’m in Pacifica French Lilac. It’s a really good representation of lilac and under $25!
Hello NST! I am looking forward to catching up with all the scented things that you all do here. I was able to lurk for a bit over the past week. I’m back home now, after having flown out to Colorado to take care of some family stuff. I also enjoyed some gorgeous warm & sunny weather. ??? Arrived back yesterday afternoon to rain and chilly weather, though. (sad horn noise) ☔?
SOTD = FM Superstitious, from the sample stash. It feels good to have perfume back in my daily routine. I didn’t bring anything with me, since I wasn’t sure how stressful things were going to be. I didn’t want a perfume to get a negative association.
Glad you made it home safely. Superstitious is lovely . Hope you get some sun soon.
Thanks Kanuka! It was the first time I had seen my mom since her stroke.
Glad to see you back!
Thank you perfumelover67!
Hi Jalapeno! I lurk some days too. Glad you’re back ?
Thanks tiffanie! I’m happy to be back among my perfumed peeps.
Welcome home! The weather sucks here too.
Thanks cazaubon! I think I might have brought the sun back with me, since it showed up today. I hope that it sticks around for a while.
Glad you are back safe. You smell totally awesome!
Thank you lillyjo! The travel spray of Superstitious *might* have made it on to my wish list… ?
Welcome back Jalapeno. I hope your trip was fruitful.
Thanks, Petunia, it was. I ended up getting some things taken care of that I meant to do the last time I was out in CO. It was a relief getting those checked off the “To Do” list.
It’s always nice to feel like a matter is resolved. Glad it was good for you!
SotD = Terracotta Le Partum
Still enjoying my scent simplification effort. Terracotta for Wednesdays, Tuesday was Assam of India again with a bit of Vanira Moorea for sweetness. I adore vanilla. ?
Sad about Tim Conway, watched clips of Carol Burnett show last weekend with a friend. So much fun. Laughter is a gift and good medicine for life’s rough spots. ?
I agree. Laughter has gotten me through some rough times.
My brother and I remember a particular Tim Conway skit from the Carol Burnett show that makes us laugh decades later. We were little kids when it aired.
LOVED that whole cast. I can still watch episodes and be totally delighted!
I sprayed to many samples today. By time I got to work, I smelled like everything and nothing. I ended up lavishly spraying Alien, so I could just smell one thing. Alien can be found for under fifty dollars at discounters. Also, there is a cute travel spray for around $25. I am working Monday thru Friday this week and I can’t wait to say TGIF!
Friday is definitely going to be FriYAY for you this week!
I had a great day. I am on my way home from Brimfield Antiques fair. I spent the day with a retired work friend, walked my feet off and found three bottles of vintage perfume that still smell great. We stopped at a local restaurant for dinner. It was a perfect day. Now if only I didn’t have to work tomorrow. ?
I almost forgot. I wore Lumiere Blanche.
What vintages did you find?
essence de Sortilege, Emeraude PdT, and White Shoulders. They also had vintage tabu, Fleur de Rocaille parfum, and Jovan Musk. My friend wore the musk in her 20s so I let her buy it but it smelled super!
There were others like Ciara, etc… but I bought the scents I liked best.
All vintage splash bottles.
Wow! You got very beautiful perfumes! Enjoy!
Seconding PL67: What did you find? It sounds like a great time!
Check out the Brimfield Antiques Fair in Sturbridge, MA. It’s massive and amazing. I’ve never made it through more than 4/5 fields. I could spend a few days there and still not see it all.
Yes, inquiring minds want to know!
Sounds like a lovely time! Strenuous though, right? Maybe you need a recovery day tomorrow. ?
It was tiring but a very nice way to spend the day. I’d love to take tomorrow off but duty calls. Deadlines…
?for a great day!
Wearing Rogue by Rhianna tonight from my roller ball. I think I paid $15 for it. Not long afterward I saw a full bottle & lotion set for $20 but didn’t get it because, well, roller ball.
Happy almost Friday!
Seriously, it’s not almost Friday?! Tells you how my week is going.
Is this the one that’s supposed to smell like Bottega Veneta?
It is!
