Monday scent of the day 4/15

Posted by Robin on 15 April 2019 226 Comments

Monday, Tax Day (if you're in the US), Anime Day, Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday and World Art Day. What’s your fragrance today?

I got my taxes done just in the nick of time. I'm in Vilhelm Parfumerie Purple Fig. (And I completely missed the news that Vilhelm Parfumerie was sold last year.)

Reminder: 4/19 will be Twice as Nice Friday...wear a fragrance that you've purchased more than once (a scent that you used up and bought again, or a scent for which you've already got a backup bottle). If you don't have such a fragrance, wear the scent you'd be most likely to rebuy. Suggested by thegoddessrena.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    SOTD is Hermes l’Ambre des Merveilles. If I hadn’t purchased the larger (and somewhat difficult to hold while spraying) bottle, I would definitely re-buy it. Delicious!

      I will replace my 15 ml when it’s gone for sure :-)

      I rebuy more Hermes than anything else partially because it is so easy to find the 15 ml bottles.

      I first bought the 100 mL of Eau des Merveilles and it was indeed too big for my hands. So I bought ti 50 mLs anyway. I either sold or gave away the 100 mLs (or maybe it is in storage).

    I’m wearing Cartier Carat from a decant. I will not be re-buying this. Kind of meh. I wore I Am Trash from a decant yesterday and enjoyed it a great deal. That I would re-buy.

      I think its good reviews came down to “Surprisingly good for a designer frag”. Just had a sample and…if I were stuck in a strange city with no perfume and there was a nearby tester I’d maybe do a spritz.

    I’m wearing La traversée du Bosphore which I have a back up bottle of. I can’t remember why I bought it, I think I did because I thought it would be discontinued and it is a fragrance I love a lot.
    I’ve come down with a cold as well. Fortunately, so far it hasn’t affected my sense of smell.

      Traversing the Bosphorus is a magical experience that I got to experience during a trip to Turkey. It was a commuter ferry and I was envious that this is how some people get to go to work everyday – with the sea, the wind and the beautiful city-scape in the distance. I am not sure what the perfume smells like, but I like the image it evokes.

        Yasmina, this is great to do.
        I love doing in Hong Kong and across the Chao Phraya in Bangkok and in Stockholm.

        Of course, I grew up taking the Staten Island ferry to and from Manhattan so that might have something to do with it.

      It looks like it’s not even at the discounters, alas. I was desperate enough to try a dirt-cheap flanker, something like Ferre Pink Princess. It was vile, and probably the bottle that cured me of blind buys.

    A vendor I frequently work with is closed today for Patriot’s Day, so I guess that’s a thing.

    Winter is back today, so I’m in a cozy combo of L’Occitane Amande oil + The Body Shop Shea EDT. I’m on my second bottle of Shea (my favorite cheap thrill), so it works for the CP too.

    I am in Lubin Kismet, which I hosted a split for the last meet. I am happy with the quantity I have and wouldn’t rebuy, but I sprayed lavishly this morning and the slightly (very slightly, it is pretty cold here in the Midwest still) higher temperatures is really making this one pop. I can’t wait to wear it in much warmer weather.

    Have a great Monday everyone!

        Yup it is! I only knew half of the members when we started out. But we really connected. Not only through books but we all turned out to be lovers of great food and wine. And we all love to travel.

        We experienced and shared so much throughout the years (weddings, starting families, crazy mothers in law, good times, bad times….). So what started out as a reason to read more and talk about books turned out into a great friendship. ?

    SotD = Chanel Beige

    From an ancient and almost dried up sample vial, Beige still smells very pretty. Perfect antidote for a grey Monday morning. Reminds me of J&J baby shampoo, a mumsy feeling for me. I like it.

    That photo up top today immediately made me think, “I want figs!” Love fresh figs and would LOVE to visit Solliès.

    Currently my Scent Decision Automation Project (SDAP) looks like:

    Monday = Chanel
    Tuesday = Assam of India
    Wednesday = Terracotta le Parfum
    Thursday = Hiris
    Friday = NST CP scent
    Weekends = free choice :D

    Have a fantastic week, NSTers! You smell fabulous.

      I love Beige! I have a 75 ml bottle, almost full. I was in Saks yesterday and finally saw one of the 6.8 oz bottles in person – holy bananas, that’s a lot of perfume. I was trying to figure out if I could ever finish a bottle of anything that size, and the only thing I could think of was Hiris.

        I’ve got the 6.8 oz size of Coromandel, I think that’s the only Chanel besides No. 19 or Cristalle that I could envision myself finishing. I think I’d break a toe if I dropped the bottle, it’s huge!

    Good morning, everyone!

    After a great weekend, I am very relieved that my taxes are sorted out for this year.

    I love this community project–I think I can do one scent for each day this week. Today is Vanille 44. I used up a small decant of about 5mL (thanks, Hajusuuri) and then repurchased a much larger (20mL) decant. That 20mL is now dangerously close to the halfway gone mark. I can easily imagine finishing it in the next year or so.

    Yesterday, I wore Wit, from my 2nd replacement decant, which I got just to reassure myself that I really wanted to have a big bottle of this. That is a great scent, and when this decant is gone, I will definitely get a FB of this.
    Today, I am wearing Hanbury, from a decant which replaced a partial bottle I got in a swap. This is soooo pretty, and when this decant is gone, I will definitely get one of the smaller bottles of this.
    Tomorrow will be La Liturgie des Heures, from my second replacement sample, and I will be acquiring a FB of this when this sample is gone.
    Thursday will be Diorissimo, which I have been buying replacement bottles of for, ummm, decades. :-)
    Friday, TBD, several choices….

    I’m currently scented with a sample of Kai Rose body lotion. The scent is lovely. I’m really glad I got a free sample, but I don’t think it will lead to a full sized purchase.

    Leaving myself otherwise perfume free because I’m going to do some sniffing after lunch.

    Have a wonderful fragrant Monday!

    Stressful times as a property transaction has been cancelled ( we would have been the buyers, but there are huge problems with the property that have since emerged and hadn’t been disclosed at the time of our offer to purchase). My appetite and nose are both out of wonk. But just today I heard of a former colleague who has terminal pancreatic cancer. Twenty years ago pancreas cancer was rare. These days it is ubiquitous. It feels as though there has been a seismic shift. Wish someone could come up with a link to the etiology. Sorry for the rambling thoughts…

    Good morning, friends. It’s hardly still morning, but I’ve gotten very little done so far, so it still feels like morning to me :)

    The only scent I ever got a BUB of is Mohur, whereupon I realized that I don’t need BUBs of anything ever because I use everything so slowly. I have backup decants of some things.

    Anyway, I’m in Incensed by Smell Bent today. I think SB is just the cutest line, and I’m enjoying trying out the samples kind NSTers have sent me :) Their oevre is so large and delightfully named that I’d have a hard time deciding which ones to try. Anyway, Incensed does smell very nice, but it’s much more a vanilla scent than an incense scent. I like it very much, and I like how it gets foodier and more thick-textured pudding-like with time, but I wish they hadn’t called it Incensed.

    For those of you wondering, Mayhem the Cat is doing fine. He’s stable and has been pretty much the same over the past month or two. I know I had some freak-outs when he stopped responding to the cancer meds, but ever since we took him off his chemo, he’s stabilized at a very happy, active, snuggly stage. Even his weight is more or less stable for now.

    As for my father, he’s halfway through his chemo and it looks like nearly all of the cancer is gone!!!! He still has a few more chemo treatments to from 97 % cancer gone to 100 %, but things are looking good.

    So I know I made a lot of very sad posts a while back and you all supported me amazingly, but right now, things are looking pretty good :) Thank you all so much for helping me through a really rough patch <3

            Apparently it’s all quite chaotic in the area as there are still people wanting to take pictures. The police have their hands full. Le Monde has just mentioned the collaps of the flèche (don’t know the term in English). But I’m guessing most of the woodwork will be destroyed. It’s really awful, Paris has been through enough as it is.

    Good day all. Wearing Aloha Tiaré today. Wishing I were in a location where the scent was all around me….but, alas…

    Just got back from mailing my tax filing extension requests. One wonders why I waited till the last minute….no motivation.

    Starting to dread the warmer weather. Yesterday and today the dampness in the air made me schvitz. It’s not even that warm yet! I’m already yanking my hair up and blotting my forehead. Sigh…

    So, so unbelievably happy my husband was feeling crummy on Saturday so we didn’t go to the Cherry Blossom Festival on Roosevelt Island here. I considered going alone, but decided against it. Figured it would be crowded, and it’s so easy for me to go another time. I Only wanted to see taiko drumming. Reading the news reports and FB complaints and yikes! What a nightmare of crowds trapped on an island with only two transit options.

QUA has a L’Heure Bleue kind of vibe, but required more sprays than I gave it this morning. I think he uses a lot of naturals so not surprised.

      I hope that your dreams were comforting. I don’t really have any words of wisdom about dealing with holidays after a parent’s death, despite having been through it. Do remember to be kind to yourself.

    It’s a gloomy, cold, rainy Monday here, I needed to continue shopping for a new couch but was feeling very unenthused. Very glad I dragged myself out though, as I found just what I wanted, on the last day of a very good sale. Yay! Of course it is a custom order and won’t be here for four months, but at least I found what I wanted. I hate furniture shopping. I’m not done yet, still need an armchair and end table, but those can wait. The couch situation was urgent. I’m wearing Dior Fève Délicieuse.

      Hurray for finding a couch! That was the most difficult piece of furniture for me to find.

      Finding a new couch is the worst. Everytime I find one I like online I go sit on it and find I don’t like it. Our last one has held up beautifully (best one I ever bought) but it is time for a replacement.

    Violettes du Czar from a sample i won from APJ. This reminded me, that i have problems with violet…. Dont like it much…. Started intermittent fasting yesterday, to drop the pounds i gained from delicious food in Japan and London. Feeling a little chilly today, just be the fasting.

    Needed a burst of citrus to pick me up this morning so am wearing Heeley Note de Yuzu which is bright but mellow.
    We had a busy weekend; my hubs uncle on his mom’s side died early last week down in FL so yesterday was the wake here on Long Island and the funeral was early this morning. I didn’t know him well, but all of the stories shared and photos brought him to life and it was all very moving. Was worried about my MIL mostly since she’s had some severe bouts of depression in the last few years and both of her brothers died within 2 years of each other. Her father died when she was born, literally, so her brothers were her fathers, really. She seems ok right now, thankfully. I am pooped, though, and looking forward to my bed later on!

    I woke up to hear that Notre Dame de Paris is burning, that’s devastating. You don’t have to be the least religious to feel a huge loss looking at the news. I am going to wear in Neroli Outrenoir, which I bought in Paris only a few weeks ago.

    Wild weather here today! I was awakened at 3:47 this morning by a sudden gust of rain hammering at the windows. Almost immediately after that came plenty of lightning and thunder in addition to the rain. This went on for almost 2 hours. The rain is long gone now, but the wind has been getting stronger throughout the afternoon. ☔?

    Some good news about Spooky kitty. I did ask the vet for another antibiotic last week. She has had 4 doses of the new medicine, and really enjoys her new prescription cat food. Things are looking up. Right now, I am cautiously optimistic about how things have been going. ??

    Not good news from Paris, France. I saw the footage of Notre Dame cathedral burning this afternoon. Horrifying.

    SOTD = Gallivant London EdP, from the sample stash. Depending on one’s nose, this can read as either a green floral or an aquatic floral. I got both… it started off green and morphed into aquatic. Well done, but not my thing.

        Thanks Gail! Although, I think that Spooky named herself. When we got her, she was only 2 pounds, give or take, a little black kitten who was afraid of everything. I did not see her for the first 3 or 4 days after we brought her home.

    Busy Monday at work but smelling wonderful in Safran Troublant. I used up a partial bottle and then bought or swapped for a decant. Planning to buy a bottle too. I don’t ever want to be without it. Longevity is sometimes an issue but today it’s long lasting.

    I put on a couple drops of Miss Dior from a vintage bottle. Mine is a splash bottle, so I should decant some into an atomizer to see if there’s any difference.

    Happy Monday everyone. At least it’s over, so only 3 days work left this week plus it’s a short week for me next week as well!

      Is it a short week because of Good Friday?
      I always seem to notice a difference between splash and sprayed, but I can’t be sure if it’s just in my head/nose. Report your findings if you do.

        Partly.. Yes, Good Friday is this week. I work 9 hour days so nornally get every 2nd Friday off as a flex day. My day off this week happens to also fall on Good Friday so I will get the Monday off as my “flex” day.

          It’s totally my choice to work the longer days and get the Friday off. But it is exhausting! On the flip-side, its nice to get a long weekend every other weekend, plus it makes it easy to get away for a quick trip somewhere once in a while.

          I’ve been doing these hours for over 15 years. I’d probably be lost if I stopped.
