It's Platonic Ideal Friday! Our community project for today: wear your platonic ideal of X (and X can be anything: yourself, a note, a fragrance family, a style or characteristic — be as creative as you like). (You can find an easy definition of platonic ideal here.) Thank you to Jalapeno and Koyel for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in L'Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons, my pick for the Platonic Ideal of a spring floral. (Now, if only it was the Platonic Ideal of spring weather.)
Reminder: 4/19 will be Twice as Nice Friday...wear a fragrance that you've purchased more than once (a scent that you used up and bought again, or a scent for which you've already got a backup bottle). If you don't have such a fragrance, wear the scent you'd be most likely to rebuy. Suggested by thegoddessrena.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s cold today, so I am wearing my Platonic ideal of a holiday at the seaside – Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Mirto di Panarea.
Weather in the style of La Chasse aux Papillons would be nice.
I’d love a seaside holiday…
Yes, so would I. Good thing we have perfumes that can transport us to our perfect places. 🙂
? Are you abandoning NYC???
Yes it would! It was actually sunny and warm here mid morning after a rather cold start, but has already started to grey up.
I would join you at the seaside if I could!
At the moment I can only dream of a seaside!
Robin, we had exactly the same though! Love this theme and knew I wanted to wear La Chasse as soon as I saw it – I have often thought about this perfume, “it’s not super interesting, but it really is the quintessence of pretty spring floral.”
You summed it up beautifully, when I think “spring scents” I think of La Chasse. You smell so pretty.
Hey, then we are well and truly twins 🙂
I was flummoxed by this project until I saw that Arielle Shoshana had been renamed to “Saturday”. It smells like Saturday feels to me, so I chose it. I also joined her kickstarter – can’t wait for my new travel spray, but I guess I’ll have to!
I hope everyone is well or on the road to getting there – stay warm and safe.
I joined the kickstarter too and got both travel sprays. I was going to buy the first one anyway so figured why not.
I’m in Bvlgari au Thé Bleu, my Platonic ideal of a purple fragrance. If the color purple had a smell, this would be it – lavender, iris, and violet.
Most of my coworkers are out at a conference today, so I brought my atomizer to reapply with abandon (thanks ElleBe!)
I need to try this. It sounds lovely.
That really does sound beautiful!
Samsara parfum
Beautiful
ahhh, gorgeous!
The platonic ideal of Bear?
I’m wearing New Musk Man, the epitome of a male scent perfect for a woman.
nice!
Disappointingly, I’m pretty sure I’m anosmic to New Musk Man :/
But I’m sure you smell fantastic!
It is!
Great choice!
I’m wearing Jubilation 25, which is my platonic ideal of perfume.
Ha! ?
Well now I HAVE to try it. This is such an interesting thought and now I’m wondering what mine is! Maybe 24 Faubourg.
oh, scratch that. It’s Joy.
You may very well be right, though that was not my choice for today; it just as well could have been!
I think I agree with you on that!
I wore vintage Parfum d’Hermes extrait for the same reason: it seems to me the apex of what a perfume can be — complex, gorgeously constructed, made with obviously high-end ingredients, and evocative in a way most other perfumes can only dream of. It’s my Platonic ideal of commercial perfumery.
I’ve never smelled Parfum d’Hermes but this description definitely makes me want to!
FriYAY! FriYAY! FriYAY! (I’m sayin’ it 3 times today, because 2 of my kids are out of town at a retreat, so I might even get a date night this weekend without much trouble!) 🙂
Even though my nose is still malfunctioning (pollen count 2017; sneeze count 2018), I’m wearing a generous spray of my platonic ideal of an office scent: Prada Infusion d’Iris. It’s office-perfect because it’s close to the skin, clean and fresh, very unlikely to offend, and smells professional and elegant. So far it’s my most worn scent of the year, per my SOTD record on Basenotes.net…. 🙂
Have a great weekend Y’all!
I hope you get your date night! Sorry about the allergies though. I’m still right there with ya. 🙁
You smell lovely and I agree with this: Infusion d’Iris is really a perfect, perfect work scent.
I seriously considered wearing the Absolue version of that today 🙂
I wore that to work yesterday. It never disappoints.
I’m in California Reverie which I got in the swap meet. I wasn’t quite convinced on my first wearing and found it very fleeting and so soft I could barely smell it. In subsequent wearings, though, I was getting soft wafts of jasmine and orange blossom around me like the gauziest veil, and it did very closely capture that ethereal scent of those flowers in the air on a warm evening in LA. And I never quite knew where the source of the smell was. It was like a phantom aroma and I always loved it. So this is my PI of California memories (and I may have bought a FB for a good price on Ebay ?).
Enjoy your new bottle!
Thank you! It’s not here yet, but I almost polished off my decant already!
I’m waiting for a new bottle too. When it comes in, I will probably lose interest and ignore it. ?
Ha! Of, course ? Whatdja get, if I may pry?
Though, I have a better track record with light, fleeting scents since I can hose myself down.
I’ve been blabbing about it here lately. Dutura Noir (My pl ideal of tuberose) I had a 37% off coupon at Frag. Net. What’s a girl to do?
Doi… Datura Noir…
Oh, nice! Good to get those old Serge bottles while they’re still available. The way I see it, if they d/c it and it becomes HTF, at least it’ll increase in value. Not sure if they kept that one in the new 100ml bottles…
Even if they did keep it, I heard that the scents were really watered down.
I think you will love CR in the summer! It’s tied with Eau de Magnolia for my fav summer scent.?
You can wear it again next Friday, then! 🙂
I still need to try California Reverie! You make it sound really nice.
Craving vanilla today so I am wearing Note Vanillee.
I wasn’t striving for Platonic ideals but NV is a top contender for best boozy vanilla in my humble opinion.
Then you get points 🙂
Do you ever crave anything but vanilla? 😉
I got completely knocked off my violet kick this AM because a box of decants sent me down the rabbit hole. Thanks to an extremely generous swap, I am in Or du Serail this AM, and smell amazing, in my not at all humble opinion.
Was out late last night at my book club–women I have know for 18 years! Our kids were in the same kindergarten class, and now those same kids are heading off to college next year. So the group is really more of a wine drinking and yammering club–although we do have some energetic discussions about books. The gathering put me in a very good mood! I’m off to the hospital with my youngest this morning for a routine endocrine check in–hope I don’t kill anyone with my perfume!
This made me laugh! I hope you don’t kill anyone either! Fingers crossed ?
Love Or du Serail and you smell gorgeous … but am not at all certain it’s hospital-appropriate. 😉
Awww I want to join your book club haha!
Thanks to Oakland Fresca. I had no idea what to choose for the cp until she commented yesterday that it is raining violets this week. The imagery made me think of Vintage Jolie Madame in all its mossy, violet glory. It is my platonic ideal of a perfect spring scent.?
Perfect!
Oh, I like this idea!
I LOVE the idea of next week’s project!!! and I think we need to change the name of “Friday’s Community Project” to “the goddessrena community project” because she’s come up with eight CPs thus far 🙂 Outstanding!
Cannot for the life of me think on this week’s CP so I am going to pass…I am wearing NOA…one of my bday bottles…100ml for twenty dollars 🙂 This one has garnered me many compliments from children over the years and I am currently on bottle number 5 so I guess I am already participating in next week’s CP-LOL!
Cm8! Did I miss wishing you a happy birthday!?
The end of the month 🙂
Whew… thought I missed it. Glad you are enjoying your present!
YES…special props to thegoddessrena!
???
Hi there! Enjoy those birthday bottles!
thank you 🙂
Carnal Flower which, I think, qualifies as a sort of Platonic ideal of tuberose-ness. In fact, it feels so idealized in its realism — hyper-realistic, I mean — that it no longer quite feels realistic (to me). Something like a photo that’s been over-saturated and over-sharpened.
In total agreement with you on CF and it was a contender today. You smell photo-shopped lovely! ?
Smelling awesome.
SOTD is La Fille de Berlin – my ideal rose perfume. Jammy, elegant, a little dark but safe to wear in the day. Need to get a backup while I still can.
You smell great Dorsey!
I need to try that one- I love jammy, dark roses!
Although Fendi is my all-time favorite, my platonic ideal and SOTD is Antonia’s Flowers Tiempe Passate.
It’s so dreamy, to me it smells of warm skin, fresh with the dried scent of sea salt. I think I love it so because it reminds me of my childhood summers spent on the East End of Long Island.
Fendi is my all time favorite too.
Nice scent memory. I can almost visualize it.
Petunia, thanks! I was fortunate to have grown up there. My scent memories are either of the beach, and sea salt or of riding horses in the fall, the smell of dried leaves, earth, saddle leather and horse sweat.
Lovely! Where on LI? I love the beaches there.
Elisa P – I lived in East Marion and Mattituck.
I’ve got family all over NY, Sag Harbor, East Hampton, Mt. Sinai, Westport (upstate on lake Champlain). My dad taught for 35 years at Southold H.S.
Fantastic perfume. I am so bummed she is doing a hiatus. Hope she does reappear.
Robin, I hope she does also. I think that is one perfume I will spend my money on this year. I have a friend/SA at Barney’s I’ve reached out to in the hopes she will find a bottle for me. Keep your fingers crossed.
Good luck!
It is one I really regret not owning. I wish she had been able to do smaller sizes.
That sounds perfect.
The scent of warm skin with dried sea salt sounds like a wonderful escape from dreary spring weather.
Wearing Iris Poudre as I needed something soft and comforting to bolster my mood.
I hope it works!
I hope it passes soon! IP is a nice cashmere hug.
IP is quite comforting and easy going, be well!
Hope the IP is working for you!
Thank you everyone, Iris Poudre is helping me get through the day, it was a perfect choice. Dealing with some sad memories today.
Sorry to hear that it is a sad anniversary for you today, but pleased to hear that Iris Poudre is helping.
You smell really good and the dry down is one of the best or the best. I hope the sadness passes quickly.
I’m feeling a bit melancholy today.
I had a hard time with the project, but chose Coco edp for my platonic ideal of perfume. I never tire of it, and it makes me feel beautiful, fancy, and pulled together. I think I will be using my ulta points on the edt soon. I almost went with 22 but, although it’s stunning, I’m not as comfortable in it as Coco. Speaking of 22, hoping Hannahmom is doing ok after her winter fall.
((lillyjo)), I’m sorry you’ve got the blues. I hope things get better.
Coco is a magnificent choice! I adore it, like Fendi, it’s rich and spicy with a great resinous undertone, although I think it’s a tad more animalic than Fendi (to my nose).
Happy Friday! 🙂
Thanks Smokey Toes, it’s just one of those blah days, and I’m looking at a long night at work.
Interesting about Coco vs Fendi.
I’m going to do a side by side comparison my next day off.
Let me know what you think! 🙂
I hear you on the blah day. I had one yesterday but I feel much better today. I’m hoping you feel better soon, too!
Sorry you’re feeling melancholy today lillyjo. This weather isn’t helping.
Sending you a big ol’ virtual hug. You smell fabulous.
So sorry you are feeling down lillyjo! Hope the work goes quickly.
Lillyjo, you smell wonderful. Coco will always be my favorite perfume because of all the emotional associations I have with it and, like you, I never tire of it. Hope you feel better tomorrow.
Aw, sorry to hear that today is feeling blah for you lillyjo! You are smelling lovely.
You smell lovely. Hope it’s helping you face the day.
Thanks everyone! The sun came out, and I’m soaking it up?
The sun really makes a big differnce. At least it does for me. I hope tomorrow is a happier day for you. ?
Hope the blahs pass quickly. A former co-worker’s signature scent was Coco and it smelled really fantastic on her!
It’s cool, wet and gray here so I am wearing Zagorsk. Zagorsk seems to fit that theme.
This morning I am wearing Dusita, the epitome of prettiness. Alas that is is fleeting, although that means later on I can put on something else ideal for psring.
Which Dusita, do tell?
Douceur de Siam
It lasts all day in me but maybe I overspray? 5
SOTD is Shalimar, my PI of a fragrance. I’d planned on wearing the EDT because I thought it might be most appropriate for the office, but then couldn’t resist the perfection of the extrait.
Hi Shalimar twin (I went EDP).
You smell perfect. That’s also my PI perfume.
FRIDAY!
1) SOTD: In Molinard’s Jasmin, a wonderful Platonic ideal of a jasmine scent. It’s clean and fresh and dries down into a warm rosy/jasmine on the skin, but it has a lovely sillage. Perfect.
2) I came in a little late to work because the morning light looked so beautiful streaming into my house that I decided to enjoy my morning coffee at home instead of rushing out the door. May I tell you that I am so glad I made the paint choices I did: the light streams into the home and my pink/gold washed walls come ALIVE. The Magnolia in the neighbor’s yard is now in full bloom and to see that in cool spring sunshine was a wonderful beginning to the morning.
One of the things that excites me most about becoming a homeowner someday is that I’ll be able to choose my own paint colors. For now, I’ll settle for hanging colorful tapestries on the walls 🙂
I love tapestries!
What a lovely sounding experience, and a great description of it.
I love the description of your paint colors. Please share…
Hey there!
1) Base color: Pink Ground by Farrow & Ball- but you can dupe this color.
2) Gold tinted glaze added to Pink Ground, no more than 10%, for the second coat.
The effect is a subtle seashel/opall effect on the walls. It’s very not an HGTV approved effect!
That sounds very pretty.
Your morning sounds so lovely!
It really was.
The sunlight on your walls sounds so beautiful 🙂
I am also in a jasmine perfume today, but my Platonic Ideal of jasmine is Jasmine de Provence from Crabtree and Evelyn.
I’m in De Profundis, my platonic ideal of spring fragrance. Every reading nook everywhere should smell like this and have an open window overlooking a spring garden.
Almost went with De Profundis too. It is so perfect for this time of year. The smell of a garden wakening. Love it!
Hello friends, happy Platonic Ideal Friday! I am of course in Tam Dao from a previous swapmeet, and my skin smells like the Platonic ideal of itself. A good candidate for retroactive placement in Twice as Nice Friday next week, as I plan to get a bit more of this scent in the future, once my no-buy has been lifted (for those of you following along, I have made pretty good progress on that front! I’m about 70 % of the way there 🙂 ).
Stayed up working until midnight, so I got a sluggish start this morning. I also hope to go home early this afternoon. I’m too old to work that hard! What am I, a grad student?! (much love to those NSTers who are still in grad school)
Excellent choice. I revisited Tam Dao EDP recently and was reminded of how quietly gorgeous it is.
Big shoutout to grad students from me too! My mom is currently working on a Master’s degree while in her mid-50s and she’s my hero for going back to school at a time in her life that some folks would consider “too late”.
That’s awesome. One of my co-workers went back to nursing school in her mid 50’s at the same time as her son. I don’t think it’s ever too late if a person has the right mind set.
My co-worker is in her 60s and getting her master’s in Nsg education. People are working longer nowadays. A few of the nurses in our intake office are in their mid/late 70s!
This is good to hear because that will probably be me! I stayed home when the bigs were little and entered the work world “late.” I love my job but I do hope to not be on my feet 12 hours a day at that age!
Oh wow, good for her!!! I do think working as hard as a grad student has to is tougher at 55 than at 25, but I haven’t been 55 yet, so what do I know? But that’s awesome. What will her degree be in?
She’ll graduate with a Master of Divinity (cool name, right??). She’s hoping to become a chaplain, probably at a hospital. I’m excited to see where she ends up.
That’s fantastic and such a rewarding field. I would consider chaplaincy for my next life since that’s the unofficial part of my job that I enjoy the most.
That is a cool name. Good for her!
I like that interpretation! For me platonic ideal of my skin is Miller & Bertaux A Quiet Morning, I think.
I just looked that one up and realized it’s one of the things I’ve been dying to try! I don’t think I’ve tried any M&B, but A Quiet Morning sounds like something I’d love to be the Platonic ideal of my skin.
(What is it about Sandalwood that lends itself to skin scent-ness, do you think?)
You smell super great.
Thanks, KellyC! 🙂
Congrats on the progress that you are making re: your wellness goals! It is worth celebrating.
Oh thank you, Jalapeno! I was just telling KellyC that I have an intermediate goal-meeting reward planned. If things go this weekend the way they have gone for the past five days, I will be eligible for a dinner comprised of mac & cheese and rose champagne. I CAN’T WAIT! But if I screw something up over the next two days, I’ll have to wait another week, so let’s see how things go!
Shalimar. The platonic ideal of perfume, full stop. ?
Yes yes yes! I wore it yesterday but should have saved it for today!
Yes. Just beautiful, and Shalimar smells great on my husband, too.
Getting down to the nitty gritty, this happens to be my platonic ideal of EVERYTHING:
https://youtu.be/P2v8IgJdsm4
SOTD is Naja, because Vero Kern.
Happy 103 birthday to Beverly Cleary!
Ear worm!
I heard about Beverly Cleary on the news today and cheered! So many familiar characters mentioned in that news spot…
Also, I’m going to a (belated Imbolc) equinox celebration tomorrow and we’re honoring the Germanic goddess Ostara! Didn’t know anything about her except a perfume bears her name and I thought the pagan lore was interesting:
“Ostara takes its name after the Germanic goddess, Eostre/Ostara, who was traditionally honoured in the month of April with festivals to celebrate fertility, renewal and re-birth. It was from Eostre that the Christian celebration of Easter evolved, and indeed the naming of the hormone Eostrogen, essential to women’s fertility. The Goddess Ostara has the shoulders and head of a hare.”
– from “The Goddess and the Greenman”
I love reading this type of lore. It’s fascinating how it relates to our modern lives. Have fun!
I do, too. It’s always so colorful ?
I love that. Have you read the book “American Gods”?
I loved American Gods and the Ostara character was an interesting one.
This is really cool. Have a good time!
Is this why America has an Easter bunny?
I had no idea the Easter bunny was only in America.
It is possibly not ONLY in America, but it certainly is not in France, where there is an Easter bell.
…and that is why Easter is named “Ostern” in Germany. thanks for the info!
I’m in Profumum Roma Acqua Viva, the PI of lemon scents. Tart, with a tiny edge of bitterness, this is the finest of lemons. Nothing else comes close.
This morning excitement arrived with breakfast. I had frozen some smoothie ingredients so that I could dump them in the blender and make something quickly. This morning the blender seemed to be working a little harder than usual. I turned it off, and as I poured the smoothie, electrical-smelling flames erupted through the button openings. Yikes! I quickly unplugged it and now I need a new blender. I must admit mine was so old I don’t remember when I got it, so a couple of decades at least. Any recommendations? I don’t use it enough to justify a Vitamix or any of that sort.
I’ve recently noticed that a lot of my favorite scents feature lemon prominently (most notably Monsieur Balmain) – I will add this to my test list!
Yikes is right! I recently had an experience like that with something old. When I plugged it in, it actually sparked and blew a fuse in our house.?
I make smoothies on the regular too and don’t have anything fancy. Just a basic Waring (bar blender I believe it’s called). It’s going on 20 years old and still works great.
I got a Ninja blender and am happy with it.
We have a Ninja, too that’s at least 5 years old and still works great. It was a gift so I don’t know what it cost.
Now that’s a dramatic start to the day. I got a kitchenaid blender last year and have been very happy with it – at a fraction of the price of a vitamix.
That’s scary! Glad there was no major damage other than to your blender.
Scary! I’m obsessed with my Ninja. I use it for smoothies, chopping, making soups, etc. It’s powerful and never failed me.
Yeeks! Small appliances going up in smoke is scary! No recommendations for new blenders, though. I have an older Oster blender.
I randomly chose Rose de Siwa for the earlier part of this day. I have one of those sample bottles and I really ought to decant some into a sprayer. It’s a gorgeous rose for when you are in the mood for something delicate.
After a very long and tiresome day at work I’ve since switched to By Kilian’s Water Calligraphy, a rather random buy this summer but it seems to hit the spot very often; my bottle is noticeably emptier than a few months ago. It’s pretty and undemanding and on some days that is just all I want.
Have a great weekend everyone!
So the pl ideal of undemanding! Sometimes those are my most worn scents. Plus, Rose de Siwa, my pl ideal of the color pink. ?
Water Calligraphy is one of those lucky buys. I saw a bottle at a deep discount and just went for it. Rose de Siwa is very pink indeed, but pale and delicate pink! YSL Paris is very pink as well, but that one isn’t delicate at all!
A friend of mine wore Paris when we were young. It is very pretty but was always her scent. I was wearing EL White Linen at that time.
Rose de Siwa was on my short list of perfumes for today. It makes me sigh with happiness when I wear it.
It’s a very moving perfume, like a few other MDCI’s actually.
Nice to know that the rest of that line has substance to it. It’s kind of sad to encounter a brand that is a “One Hit Wonder” while the rest of their offerings are “Meh” at best.
Invasion Barbare, La Promesse de l”Aube and L’Enlèvement au Sérail are stunning. The last one is discontinued. I’m also very fond of Rose, Vêpres Siciliennes, Le Rivage des Syrtes Un Cœur en Mai and Chypre Palatin. I haven’t tried all of the more recent ones, but am kind of dithering about ordering another sample set. It’s a great deal and I just really love the line.
I’m wearing MFK Grand Soir, my Platonic ideal of Perfume. Capital P Perfume, that is. I asked my neighbour to bring me my bottle this week to the rehab center on purpose for this CP. Now I feel rather fancy for doing some physical therapy but that’s OK.
Feeling fancy, and smelling fancy. Hope the PT goes well!?
It’s like wearing pearls with your jeans! Glad you are on the upswing.
Yay for feeling fancy!
It’s definitely ok! You smell wonderful!
I hope that your PT session goes well today!
You smell fabulous! Probably the best-smelling person there 🙂 Own that fanciness!
Grand Soir is wonderful and should really help with a speedy recovery.
LADDM. My platonic ideal of the perfect perfume. There’s really nothing else quite like it, to me anyway.
Whew! What a week! It was hard to get back into work mode after being on vacation and work was really busy. I just got home from working an extra shift.
Looking forward to the weekend. Tomorrow is record store day AND the first farmer’s market of the season. Decisions, decisions…
You smell perfect.
Thank you!
The Madison farmer’s market is a sight to behold. If you end up going, enjoy!
Thanks, it’s the best isn’t it?! I like to go super early and sit on the corner of the square outside my favorite coffee shop and people watch for awhile, then get some goodies and head home before the crowds. I am ready for summer!
You smell good. I vote farmer’s market!
Thanks! That’s probably what we’ll end up doing, even though it’s supposed to be chilly. I love the farmer’s market!
Sounds like a great weekend ahead for you. Enjoy!
Thanks lillyjo, I hope you have a good weekend too!
Tough call between Record Day and the farmer’s market! I heard on NPR this morning that some artists and bands release special items for that day only.
Sounds like a great weekend! I love that you have a record store close by.
I went with Sa Majeste la Rose, a soft bed of dewy rose petals, and with the exception of Douce Amere, is the only Lutens that has a chance of being considered a “platonic” anything.
Hey, off topic, but does anybody here use NIOD Neck Elasticity Catalyst?
You smell super good. I love that one.
Feeling soft & cosy in Chanel 1957 today.
Woo hoo!
I’m in the platonic ideal of….a bat cave? Seriously, I’m in Bat and cannot believe how realistically it smells of wet dirt and caves. It’s difficult at first spray- I like it but not sure others would- but it dries so wonderfully on skin! It’s a total win for me today, though. I’m enjoying it so much!
I do like it a lot. I detect banana, also.
I think that’s one of the things I like most about Bat – the difficult-transitioning-into-wearable. I like the difficulty for a while but don’t want to fight with my perfume all day; still I’m glad it has such strong and challenging character for the first hour or so. (I would say it has that in common with Rhinoceros and T Rex.)
I can finally participate! Wearing SJP Lovely, my platonic ideal of on the down low office scent to wear when you are pretending that you arent wearing a scent at all, just smelling naturally nice.
? Glad it’s working for you. It must be hard to be scent restricted at work.
I need to try that one! It’s so cheap I think I could blind buy it and be fine lol. Love the way you describe it.
That’s a GREAT pick for the office, or anytime! Lovely was one of the very first perfumes I ever bought for myself, back before I had even taken an interest in fragrance! Down the rabbit hole I went…. 🙂
My platonic ideal of a perfume is that it always smells good on me, in all weather types (since I live in New England and get them all), for all occasions and is affordable. Therefore, I’m in my most frequently worn scent of Milk of Flowers
I read Neil Chapman’s Perfume yesterday ( I was surprised to find a copy here to tell the truth). His writing is both careful and thoughtful, one of my favourite entries is near the start of the book where he writes about a childhood memory of going on a scout camp and finding solice in a fern den in the woods…hus description is poignant but beautifully described in terms of the scent ( the perfume was a Penhaligon’s fern). If there was an orchestra of perfume writers I think Chapman is the obie or cello player to Turin’s trumpet and triangle. The book is arranged by notes which I really like ( rather than groups). Interestingly there is no entry for frankincense in the index but it is there , under Incense perfumes. I think it probably deserves its own entry. Most of the note sections contain a contestual paragrapgh followed by a few pages of perfumes ( few of them are the brands I would ever find in a shop but that wasn’t a problem). I thought one chapter ( containing a group of mimosa and other notes) was a little sparse compared to the other entries….it was more of a summary than an exploration. Really nicely done. I found a typo ( an Edith Wharton character’s name). Anyway, really nice and nice production . Boucheron again. I have noticed how well it blooms during nightly menopausal night sweats…a platonic ideal of growing old gracefully.
I’ve been reading the same book, but I pre-ordered mine from Amazon. It never occurred to me that it would be distributed in New Zealand.
And maybe I should try Boucheron at night… 🙂
SotD = Eau des Merveilles
?? It’s my ideal salty scent! I adore the way it sparkles. I get citrus one day, more foresty notes another, EdM always entertains my nose.
Yes to Hermes!
Yay for Merveilles!
Do you have any “grab & go” perfumes for Friday yet? It sounds like Eau des Merveilles could be a contender.
yes indeed! I think you’re right, tho the Friday project here on NST often gives me inspiration.
Yay for Merveilles! Please always keep coming up with these lovely rhymes <3
Mm wearing Memo French Leather today. My soul needed a kiss from a rose and this is doing the trick.
Ha! Nice!
I chose the platonic ideal of a honey perfume, which for me is DSH Lush Honey. I don’t think she’s had it in her site for a long time, but I have a 10ml roll-on of the oil that still has at least 9.5ml. So it will probably last me the rest of my life.
I had a pretty great birthday yesterday. Thanks again for all the nice comments. My coworker made red velvet cupcakes and my boyfriend and I watched Dirty Dancing while eating delicious brisket sandwiches. Today the work day is kind of dragging but at least it’s Friday.
Brisket sandwiches=heaven ??
Indeed!
Yummmm brisket sandwiches and red velvet cupcakes, sounds like a great combination 🙂
It really was.
Happy birthday for yesterday!
Thanks!
Your birthday sounds so wonderful!!!
Thanks, it was!
Happy Birthday + 1 Day! Wishing you a wonderful year ahead filled with . . . Cupcakes and dancing!
Thank you! I got to bring home the leftover cupcakes this weekend, so I’m still enjoying them.
Happy Belated & Scented Birthday wishes! ????
Thank you!
Happy belated birthday!
Thanks!
Your birthday sounds wonderful 🙂
It definitely was!
Although I’ve spent most of my adult life living in one of Chicago’s ‘inner ring suburbs,’ I was born and raised in the heart of Chicago and I still remain deeply committed to it. Its many cultural opportunities, beautiful lakefront and many parks (including bird-watching enclaves and numerous forest preserves that ring the city – and where overnight camping is even available in some), not to mention the home of my beloved White Sox! – often call me ‘home’ as I’m only a hop, skip, and a jump away.
So for today’s cp, I’m celebrating the ideal essence of its natural beauty in Trublooms Chicago, a soft floral fragrance of rose, lavender and violets – the Illinois state flower. Nurtured from seed to scent right here, all the flowers used in this fragrance were grown in Chicago gardens in the summer of 2012 and harvested in the fall. Additional sparkling watery fruity notes, according to Trublooms, remind one of a day spent along the shores of Lake Michigan, while base notes of blonde woods and skin musk reflect the city’s nightlife and blues heritage.
Well, I don’t know about all that, but on a bright spring day when my spring flowers are pushing through the soil, Trublooms Chicago perfectly suits the day as well as the city as I like to think of it and is my idea of its platonic ideal.
Happy weekend to all!
Your sotd sounds lovely! Not all that far from you, and enjoying the beautiful day too.
Oh how nice that sounds! I live on the other side of the lake and love Chicago.
I loved this. Thanks for sharing!
What a great back story about your SOTD!
Oh how lovely; I really enjoyed reading that.
I enjoyed reading this! Thank you!
I am wearing L’Artisan Au Bord de L’Eau, which for me, smells like peacefulness. I need this today. I got some potential bad health news for one of my in-laws, and I am very sad about it. We won’t know the results of her test for a few more days, but it looks like kidney cancer. I am praying the doctors can do something to help her.
I’m sorry Barqs. Hugs to you ❤️
I hope the news will turn out less worrisome than you fear!
Saying a prayer for you and your in-laws.
Praying with you that they can help.
Thank you all so much. She has been on my mind all day.
Oh, I’m so sorry. Sending comforting thoughts your way.
So sorry Barqs! Hugs.
I’m so sorry Barqs. Hugs to you and your MIL.
Oh no, so sorry to hear this. Hugs.
So sorry, Barqs. Sending hugs and healing vibes!
Cool, sunny spring day = Balenciaga Paris! So enjoying our lovely day in my part of the Midwest. ?
Are you near the Great Lakes? We are having the kind of slow warming, gently unfolding spring that I grew up with but don’t see often enough anymore. Just beautiful ?
Yes I am!
Wearing Hypnotic Poison again today and don’t know quite how to make it work with the CP. It smells fluffy and comforting though.
I can still smell the last of yesterday’s Lyric. That might be a Platonic ideal of being just on the right side of too much – it’s sweet and rich, and lasts forever, so it’s a commitment. I have to be in the right frame of mind to wear it.
Ooh, I love your take in the CP.
En Passant! If this isn’t a platonic ideal of a fragrance, I’m not sure what is. Gauzy, dreamy lilac and just the right amount of lift to make it hazy and atmospheric, with wheat for added realism. Olivia Giacobetti is SO GOOD.
Cuir de Russie. I thought of the Platonic Ideal of “get out of my way, underling!” fragrance (I don’t have any underlings to order around). Also, platonic ideal of a horse lover’s fragrance, perhaps?
? “Nobody does it better
Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you
Baby, you’re the best” ?
SOTD = L’Arte di Gucci EdP, from the sample stash. My testing notes say “The perfect rose perfume, except for the fact that it is discontinued.” ?
Good one, Jalapeno! Song and scent!????????
The song just popped into my head this afternoon. I was enjoying it too much to not share. ?
Why do the good ones get discontinued?
The eternal lament of the perfumista! ?
I chose Sonoma Scent Studio Bee’s Bliss. This is my ideal sunny, joyful warm weather perfume. I will enjoy every drop of my precious 17ml bottle.
Then, my swap package arrived from Bronyraur – I now have some 31 RC, 28 La Pausa and Carnal flower on various parts of my body. Because I’m impatient and wanted to smell them all at once (hard to believe I have never tried any of these three!)
On the Chanels, did you get the EDT or the EDP?
EDTs, pre-reformulation. So far I like!
Hey peeps! I won! I won! Through whatever random drawing schema Chris Rusak used, I won a 30mL bottle of Timbre!
SOTD = Aftelier Alchemy
Alchemy is the platonic ideal of what’s old is new again. Citrus, floral, amber, insincerity’s, salt, vanilla. Some of the materials used in this came from the progenitor Alchemy Ms. Aftel created for the brand. Since it is both philosophically and physically platonic ideals, I am claiming extra credit!
In other news, I signed up to have breakfast with the Easter Bunny tomorrow. If I take decent pictures, I will post them on Instagram @hajusuuri.
I managed to assemble 7 bags for a charitable organization to pick up. I had been eyeing some golf and other type umbrellas to give away and so I did. With the threat of a dap morning and rain, I made sure to double the plastic packaging. The umbrellas were in the last batch by themselves and I started to layer the plastic cover. It then hit me that I should not have to do that because they are umbrellas and are meant to get wet and not get soggy! Oy!
Congrats on the Chris Rusak win. He did some kind of lottery number thing that was beyond my comprehension.
I started to read the process but had to put it aside. I’m a nerd so will pick it up again!
That’s awesome! Congratulations on the win??
Thank you. It was so unexpected!
w00t w00t! Congratulations on your Timbre win! Have you smelled it before, or is this something new and unknown? ??
Thanks! It is something new, never smelled and I have not even read the notes. I will not peek at the notes either and will report back on what it smells like to me which could be really far from what it smells like to normal people ?
Congratulations on your win! Enjoy your new bottle.
Thank you!
Yay! Serendipity, enjoy! And say “hi” to the Easter Bunny ?????
Thank you. I hope it’s a different bunny than the one I saw at the center part of the mall a week or two back — EB looked depressed!
Congratulations on your win!
Congrats on the win! I am dying to see those photos?
I don’t think I participated today as I’m wearing 2 or 3 sprays of ISM in honor of my bub that arrived yesterday. And then I added a few drops of carrot seed oil for good measure on my arms.
Tomorrow 2 of my coworkers and I are going to our very popular (and favorite) local garden centre then for lunch to the pub. We need to blow off some steam because work has been sooooo stressful the last 4 months with the ongoing transition.
Then on Sunday, my hubby’s nephew is coming over for a pizza supper and to watch Game of Thrones. It’s nice that he wants to and is willing to spend time with us.
