Tuesday, Marc Jacobs' birthday, plus National Unicorn Day and National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day and National Winston Churchill Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m in Blackbird Y06-S. I am about to make my second cup of English Breakfast (Upton) mixed with French Breakfast (Mariage Frères).
Reminder: 4/12 will be Platonic Ideal Friday...wear your platonic ideal of X (and X can be anything: yourself, a note, a fragrance family, a style or characteristic — be as creative as you like). (You can find an easy definition of platonic ideal here.) Suggested by Jalapeno and Koyel.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Unicorn Mini Tin Tea Set is sadly sold out at Pottery Barn Kids.
Tea this morning is French breakfast and I am dipping galletas maria cookies with chubby Buddha in our tea. He is having a different tea than me, hot water and a little ?.
Thanks to the swapmeet I am in Givenchy Néroli Originel-
Has anyone tried this?
I have not, is it lovely?
I’m stuck in bureaucracy at work. Aarrgghhh. Will open my blind buy later today: Lalique Satine. Does anyone own this?
Oh, I work for a state agency, I feel your pain. I hope things get better for you. 🙂
It could’ve been worse. Just don’t want to think of the community money wasted sometimes…. please feel free to complain back to me????
I just stumbled upon that one during my late night vanilla perfume googling this past week. It can be had for cheap and has positive feedback. I have been tempted to blind buy myself but now I shall await your findings. It is pleasing to see others are leading parallel vanilla-seeking lives. ??
Ahhhh the vanilla quest!! I can tell you the 30ml bottle is very cute and it smells lovely and fluffy. That’s half an hour after spraying. I’ve read the longevity is good….
Thanks for the intel. I am very tempted to blind buy this too. Fragrantica reviews are overall positive. And I am always craving more and slightly different vanillas.
I also work for a state agency. The bureaucracy is real, and the stupid hurts sometimes…. 🙂
Hang in there!
Oh god, nearly spit out my tea. Thanks for the chuckle JadainGA! 😀
It’s just so dadgum true! LOL
Perfect example: A couple of weeks ago we did our pharmacy inventory. Counted EVERY. SINGLE. TABLET/PILL/BOTTLE in the joint. But our inventory system was, and remains, offline….we are getting a new system on May 15th. The old system is not connected to any reporting program, so counting everyone was a complete and utter waste of time. When the new system goes in, we’ll have to count again.
So why did we count? Because the bureaucrats in charge said it was our “usual time” to count. We count every 3 months, so it was time to count. No matter that there was no way to record it or enter the numbers! 🙂
THANK YOU GUYS for letting me type this and vent. Very therapeutic to get it out of my system! 🙂 Onward and forward we go……
As long as they don’t try to take my stapler I’m ok….. 😉
Oh dear lord. You have the patience of a saint to deal with that.
That is utterly ridiculous!
Thank you and you too!! To think we are all paying taxes for this kind of stuff and very important things are not being done in the meantime…..luckily I can relax myself with a fluffy sniff of my Satine….
Do report back
Eau des Merveilles. Wash, rinse and repeat.?
I’m currently on day 7 of another Whole 30 and last night I made homemade bone broth in the crockpot while we slept. It smells delicious and I hope it tastes just as good. This is the first time I’ve ever made it. If anyone else makes it and has any good tips, I would love to hear them.
My best chicken broth tip: find a butcher or health food store (or Asian grocery, all sorts of places have them) that will sell you chicken feet. I freeze the chicken feet in little packages of 3 (actually I’m squeamish and I make my husband do it) then throw one package into every pot of stock (my crock pot is 8 quart). (If you are likewise squeamish, make sure the feet go in first, at the bottom of the pot under all the other bones, so you don’t wake up to little toes sticking up at the top.)
Broth tastes richer and has a higher gelatin content.
Then I let the crock pot insert cool, drain off the liquid into a large stockpot, stick in the fridge until the next day. Broth should have jelled nicely with all the fat at the top, which you can then chip off with a big spoon and discard.
That’s a great tip. I was making bone broth all the time a year ago and found chicken feet at a Mexican grocery store. Always threw one in the pot even if I was cooking beef broth.
My best bone broth are in shelf-stable tetra-packs from Costco. The sodium content is very low. Homemade is still bestest though.
Thanks! I saw a couple of bloggers that recommended the chicken feet and I have seen them at my local grocery.
Yeah, the thought of touching them kind of grosses me out so I might have to put on some gloves for that.
I am from Poland originally (16 years in the US though) and we love gelatin that comes from meat like chicken and we actually have a dish called “nozki w galarecie” which is pigs feet (if I wasn’t raised on it I would probably hate the idea) cooked a certain way, my Mom knows how – I just know how to consume… and with some green peas and carrots left overnight and then this gelatin forms all over the bowl the feet are in… the next morning You hasve this gelatin pie and oh I forgot! The meat in it is just meat taken off the bones after they got cooked… anyway Love it so much! Just a splash of vinegar and yum yum!!
I think there are places in the US where pigs feet are popular, maybe in the south if I remember correctly? And I know they eat them in some parts of Mexico. I have never had them but I bet they are delicious.
I think some areas of the Southern U.S., yes. Plus traveling north in some soul food recipes, and west from some places in Europe where pigs’ feet are popular, as mentioned above. 🙂
Just curious: I’ve read about all the health benefits of bone broth and gelatin, but can you actually feel the difference when you eat a lot of broth? And what would you reckon is “a lot”? A cup/ two cups a day? I have a bad knee and have been debating whether I should make the effort to make broth. What they sell in the stores as bone broth here looks a bit yuck to me, so homemade it will have to be!
Bone broth is not something new. It’s just the latest hype train. I make my own chicken stock frequently. I always have it on hand. I’ve been making my own stock for 20+ years. I haven’t noticed any potential heath benefits and I use 2 whole organic chickens when I make it. The broth does have collagen (gelatin) So, I guess you have to decide if it’s worth the effort. At the very least it tastes great.
Woohoo for Whole 30! I did it last year. Robin’s chicken feet tip is great. They’re great for broth because of the gelatin content. I made a great bone broth a few weeks back with a whole chicken carcass and also some beef bones. I roasted the beef bones before adding to the crockpot and it gave it such a rich flavor.
Also, you smell great!
Thanks! I’ve done a few Whole 30’s over the past three years and for me it’s a good way to kind of hit the reset button and get back to healthy eating. Especially after being on vacation where I was eating like I hadn’t a care in the world, lol.
The best bone broth I ever made started with roasted marrow bones. It also had roasted carrots and celery and a handful of bay leaves and thyme.
But that is a rare thing; we don’t typically buy bones for bone broth. We’re big believers in using all parts of all the meat we buy. So we have a bag with meat discards in the freezer at all times. If we trim fat/skin off of our meat, we just chuck it in the bag. Any bones we cut out before cooking OR that we have left after eating go in the bag. (Germs from touching the bones/gnawing on them are all going to get killed in the broth cooking process.) Whole roasted bird leftovers make for GREAT stock: all that cartilege and bits of meat stuck to the bones and fat. Yum.
We usually make broth on about a 4-L scale at a time in a giant pot. Since we have a gas stove, it’s not really safe to leave it running overnight 🙂 but your Crockpot sounds very convenient.
This sounds delicious. I usually roast vegetables before making veggie stock.
Did you inherit your mother’s cooking skills?
Heh 🙂 I am not as good or intuitive a cook as my mother is, but I love to cook, and most of the things I try come out pretty well!
Are you vegetarian, Petunia? A lot of people have been talking about saving veggie scraps to make veggie broth (e.g., carrot/potato peels), but those scraps don’t freeze as well as meat scraps, and I am not flexible enough with timing to be able to make veggie stock as I’m generating veggie scraps. Any tips on that, if you’ve tried it? And what are your favorite stock veggies?
Hmmm. Sort of. I don’t eat meat but I do eat eggs and fish.
Chicken and beef stock is for my husband but I used to eat it frequently.
We have that same bag in the freezer. I did not know you could buy chicken bones for stock — are you sure it’s rare NOT to buy them? I have never seen chicken bones for sale anywhere!
Most of the people I know who make broth do so with purchased beef or lamb bones (with some meat still clinging to them, hacked off in straight planes by a butcher), or WHOLE CHICKENS. This is the most outrageous of things to me–to buy a whole chicken, boil it until the water runs fatty and thick with nutrition, and then discard the whole, now largely tasteless chicken. I bet it makes for really excellent, meaty broth, but I could never do that.
So among the people I know who make broth, it’s very rare to have a freezer bone bag, but I don’t know that I’m very representative.
Ah, beef bones I can understand. Using a whole chicken to make broth, I did not know that was a thing.
Oh, it’s a thing. I use my MILs recipe and it’s fantastic. I leave some of the white meat in the stock and portion it out into 4 cup containers to freeze, after a night in the fridge (for skimming fat). The rest goes into a chicken pot pie or the furry kids get it. Nothing is wasted.
Interesting! But I want my roast chicken, LOL…and then I need to use up the bones. I think I like the roast chicken more than I care about any sort of broth.
I bet marrow bones does make a good broth. My dad will actually pull the marrow out and eat it. *shudders*
Yes! I used a whole chicken carcass, I cooked that in the crockpot yesterday over a bed of onion, celery and carrots. I threw it back in after I had pulled all the meat off it and added some more water to the juices it left behind and let it heat overnight. It does have great flavor!
“Shudder”?!??? Bone marrow is DELICIOUS! My favorite is goat bone marrow from my mother’s goat curry, but even simple roasting with salt, pepper, and thyme makes for a succulent, fatty spread that pairs perfectly with thick bread!
Oh how thrilled he would be if I shared your affinity for bone marrow, but alas, I am a very. picky. eater.?
Mmm. Goat curry. I’ve gotten that from the Himalayan Indian grocery in my area. I’m assuming the proprietors are Sikhs, as the older man there wears a turban. The curry is spicy but delicious. I guess my appetite is fully back! 🙂
I tried to wear Pacifica French Lilac today but the rollerball was not being very generous so I topped it up with En Passant. I am Lilacky.
Lilacky is lovely !
I used the FL body lotion. Partial twins!
Oh, I do love layers of a lilacky scent – you smell divine!
You smell like spring!
SOTD is Bruno Fazzolari Feu Secret, from a new FB. It was nice from the little sample sprayer, but I’m getting less dry paper and more of everything else now – whoever called it glorious the other day is spot on. Lovely!
A the flanker to Geu Secret.
Indeed 😀
Wearing Eclipse for a green, early spring.
Tea was a fancy Assam. Not decide what will come next tea wise.
What perfume is that? It doesn’t ring a bell. I googled it and found a perfume called Eclipse by Ghost? Super bottle.
No, it’s the long discontinued Eclipse by Parfums de Nicolaï. A salty muguet.
Aha! In truth, the notes for the Eclipse Ghost bottle didn’t sound green, but who knows what the nose knows? (That could be a yet undiscovered Dr. Seuss book!)
I think you’re onto a writing project! My kids would have loved that title!
Salty muguet sounds phenomenal, I’ll be on the lookout for this.
It’s been discontinued for a long time, so I guess eBay is your best bet. It’s not dissimilar to Odalisque.
Wearing ELDO Yes I Do which is the LOTV a unicorn might wear since it’s on a cloud of marshmallow fluff.
Unicorns get no respect! LOL!
I tried, lol
A cloud of marshmallow fluff sounds nice.
It’s an interesting combo. Not very sweet but makes it a good cool weather lotv. The base is a tad bitter and is bugging me a little.
Ah.. I already said this below. I had a sample of YID. It came as a freebie with an order. I passed it along. I sometimes have a hard time with bitter green scents.
An unicorn is just an underweight rhinoceros! They are alive and well, if a bit skinnier than the usual rhino….. 🙂
I like this visual…
Ha! So right ?
I just snorted wine up my nose. Thanks I guess?
All this talk about unicorns has me wondering what perfumes would capture the sparkle-y aspect they have picked up in recent years.
I would put a mystical unicorn in superstitious, and a sparkly unicorn in original Miss Dior Cherie.
Ha!! Very clevrry!
I’m wearing my favorite Cartier, L’Envoi.
I am surprised I don’t see mentions of that here more frequently!
Late question, but edp or edt? I haven’t had the chance to try the edt yet.
Chanel No. 19 EDT with a small amount of SL ISM from my new travel spray.
This sounds like a great combo!
Ooh interesting combination, I’m impatiently waiting for my ISM to come through the post!
I like layering no.19 edt with infusion d’iris.
Smelling great today.
Pushing through my difficult, scary writing project– sort of. Managed three paragraphs yesterday, which for me is very slow going. In truth, I also won three (and lost two) online Scrabble games and caught up on the latest changes at Homeland Security and the Secret Service—so am still fighting the procrastination monster tooth and nail.
Today I am scenting my struggles in Violette Fume, which is making me feel smarter than I am.
You can do it! Writing is thinking and thinking is hard. But slow and steady will win the race. I am about to start my writing session for the day too
I can’t smell Violet Fume but think that it’s probably gorgeous and I am missing out.
Really? Amazing. I get so frustrated with myself when I cannot smell certain perfumes, particularly those heavy in musk. But Violette Fumee? Not a problem at all for me. I do get more stewed fruit than pipe tobacco, but it is definitely a violet and a pretty one at that. But I know exactly what you mean when you say you cannot smell a perfume.
Wait. Is your Violet Fumee by Mona di Orio?
Yes. What were you thinking of?
The same. The sample I have is so faint. I get no fruit at all. Well, I barely get anything… A whisper of violet.
Difficult writing projects always result in a cleaner, tidier house in my experience.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a writer tasked with a challenging essay, working from home, will not want for a clean house, a pot of beans on the boil, or an enticing hand of letters in a game of online Scrabble!
Yes!
Papers that need to be graded have the same effect.
I am wearing Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir today and drinking a cup of black tea.
I have just finished my mint tea and am about to go back to black 😉
Not feeling well so I’m working from home. And completely bummed about it, too. Put on a spritz of Hermes Voyage but it’s not cheering me up yet. There are several special things this week and I just canNOT be sick.
Hope it doesn’t last and that you feel better soon!
Eeek! Sending healing vibes!
Love your new gravatar!
Thank you!
Sending well wishes!
I hope it goes away as quickly as it came. Feel better!
I hope you are able to get some rest today and feel better soon!
Aww <3 feel better soon!
Hope you’re feeling better soon✌?
Sorry springpansy!
Ugh, that is a bummer. I know what you mean by not having time to be sick. I hope you feel better soon!
I hope you recover soon!
Feel better soon! ??
Aww, I hope you feel better soon!
SotD = Assam of India
Hot weather here today, can’t go wrong with Assam of India. I’ve need to “automate” my scents for weekdays. Tea for Tuesdays make AofI an easy choice. Now I have to decide on the other four weekdays. Hmm . . . hard to choose.
A unicorn teapot! How lovely 😀 I sometimes joke that the unicorn is my spirit animal, lol. May your day be full of sparkles and rainbows, NSTers!
I need a zebra teapot. That’s my spirit animal.
I understand your automating wish, but it’s hard when it so depends on my mood. Maybe you could group a few as those handy wallpaper fragrances that fit most events/activities and feel good on and then choose from those?
Super idea, go-to scents are always ba good thing ?
Assam of India is so good. You smell fab.
thank you, KellyC! ☺️
I find that Hiris = Thursday to me. Why?? I could never tell you.
Excellent! Thursday is for Hiris, Hiris is for Thursdays ?
Going old school in vintage Dune. Music is even older school with Queensryche, Operation: Mindcrime, lol, I decluttered my cds yesterday, this one stays!
Thanks for the sun today Madtowngirl ??
Vintage Dune- so good!
Vintage Dune ~ oh my don’t you smell marvelous! Come over and sit next to me please!
Old school Queensryche! ??
Hooray for sun!??…and Queensryche, and Dune!
Smelling great and with an even better soundtrack!!
Most excellent! ??? Dune and Queensryche have both held up well over the years, haven’t they?
Heck yeah! In all seriousness, Mindcrime is one of the best metal album to come out of that time. And, well Dune, to this day, nothing like it.
Tom Ford White Patchouli today, it’s been ages since I’ve worn it, a couple of years at least, and it’s really an elegant and easy to wear perfume.
I have not worn it in ages either, and agree on elegant and easy to wear!
I almost never see bottles of TF White Patchouli anymore.
I do almost all my perfume shopping online but I agree, I don’t see it mentioned often. It’s available on the Sephora website and it’s the most expensive of the Signature line which is odd as I think the original Black Orchid is a more interesting perfume. Just my two cents.
Love the color of the tea set.
I am in Penhaligon’s Opus 1870.
I do too 🙂
Drinking my usual Stash Chai Green Tea and wearing Penhaligon’s Amaranthine.
I love Amaranthine, it’s so interesting and lovely.
Great choices for both tea and perfume today!
Easy breezy in Fortune Cookie Soap’s Beauty and the Beast inspired The Grey Stuff (try the grey stuff, it’s delicious!) Hibiscus, rose and berry tea, light and springy.
Very happy today has finally come, my workmate is back from vacation so I can breathe again without having to do twice the work. We made it!
Yay for two people to do the work!
Still learning Microsoft 10 on my new laptop. I upgraded everything this past weekend and got a new iPhone XR and a laptop with a 17-inch screen so that I can see everything on the electronic health record I have to log into. Touch screen is a really nice perk on the laptop. Resolution on the screen is so much better, too. Testing out TF Noir de Noir from a very generous swapper.
I LOVE Noir de Noir. One of my favs.
In Jazmin Sarai How to Love again. I have been layering it with Virgile, which has become my go/to layer perfume. It plays nice
Tea for Two. Glad I got a FB.
It’s so good!
Azemour les oranges to start the Easter holidays off lazily today, + copious cups of Earl grey. It’s grey and has been raining steadily all day, and it’s been so nice to stay in, and do nothing much.
Cooking some quinoa salmon burgers now for the kids supper.
Ah, maybe I will wear that tomorrow.
That’s a lot of “days” squeezed into one one day.
SOTD is Felanilla from a kind NSTer. Off to track down some coffee and breakfast. Happy Tuesday all!
Smellin great!
Feeling a little sluggish today and hoping that work tonight won’t be such a disaster like it was last night. Wearing Miss Dior Original today. The vintage is probably too skanky for work.
Hope work is going well Dawn!
A friend who knows I’m into perfume just texted me that Massdrop is doing a drop of O’Doud’s Pharmacy Sandalwood cologne. So my first thought was that the brand name was a pun on Eau d’Ouds, but apparently not. They mostly offer men’s hair and beard care products, and none of their small number of colognes have oud in the name.
This seems like simultaneously a missed opportunity and a point in their favor. ?
Ysteday, we had summer. Today, you could hav fooled me if you said I was a cold late November day.
SOTD = Pacifica Spanish Amber
Dior Mitzah lite! It’snot A template for anything. Which reminds me I have to rescue Indult Tihota from the basement. I had been using it to scent my wool balls for the dryer. I had been using the same scented ball for the past 3 months. Every 4 weeks, I squirt about 10 spots on the ball, crap the ball in old dryer sheets, put the whole think in a lingerie wash bag and let it hang to dry for a week I put the entire bag plus 3 other unscented balls into the dryer; I some times put in one unscented dryer sheet because while the balls minimize static, they do not completely eliminate them. I am pleased with the subtle vanilla smell in my clothes! Does anyone think this is dangerous?
Tax return prep update. Let’s just say that with good comes bad. I did well on interest and dividends and planning for retirement, but my tax planning needs to improve. Le sigh. I will do my mom’s tonight and I hope to be all done by no later than tomorrow.
Some of you know that I post on Instagram. Recently, someone liked my post on glass vases in a museum. I checked out the account and saw a photo of the same vase with a caption that said it was a 17th century vase. My caption stated that it was from 1920 based on the text that accompanied the item. What would you do? 1) Leave well enough alone 2) Send the account a private mail (through IG). 3) Post a comment about the discrepancy. First world problem but thought I would poll this fine community!
I think your Tihota wool balls sound great (and safe). I wish I had bought some Spanish Amber before it was discontinued.
Pacifica perfumes occasionally show up at Marshall’s!
If it’s someone that is an active participant to your Instagram, maybe message them. If it’s someone you don’t see on there alot, I would just leave it alone. Imo.
Agreed. If it really bothers you, message them. Otherwise if it’s not someone you interact with a lot, I’d just leave it.
My thoughts with the exception being if it looks like the account is that of an antiques dealer, I would have said something. Undina pointed out below that it was corrected. Perhaps someone else pointed it out to the person or maybe the person is one of us and read my comment!
I will never forgive Pacifica for discontinuing Spanish Amber and other unique scents for yet another cutesy beauty and makeup line. As for the wool dryer balls… I douse mine with lavender essential oil after I do a wash with unscented detergent. Throw them into the dryer with towels and sheets… heaven! Never had a problem.
I adored their Spanish Amber, Mediterranean Fig and the French lilac. I should have stocked up!
Oh yeah – those are also ones I like. I loved the lilac candle at this time of the year. Keep looking – I still see some of their products in stores. Grab them while you can!
I actually considered buying vanilla absolute but figured that I have better vanillas in my collection that I could use. The lavender sounds heavenly!
I sort of feel the ball is in her court to re-investigate the history of this vase, now that she’s aware of the museum information, if she chooses.
But I haven’t seen your instagram post so this is not a well-informed hypothesis.
Hey nozknoz! Haven’t seen you in these here parts for a while. Hope you’re doing well!
Here’s mine:
https://instagram.com/p/Bvc6ewVh_CP/
Here’s the other person’s:
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv4APu2hmAh/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1799cn3c1felu
Unless the person is someone I know or if the account is one of an antiques dealer, I would not bother informing him/her of the error.
It seems the other person has corrected the mistake.
And so it was!
I started putting away my super heavy winter perfumes that I had brought out for winter today, but the Spanish Amber is still out. I bet that it will work beautifully on a wet & rainy April day. ☔?
Yay you for getting your taxes done!
I’m wearing Songes for the first time in a very, very long time. So pretty.
You smell great.
Aqua Vitae today from Maison Francis Kurkdijan. It’s nice- citrusy but warm at the same time. Very unisex. I’d like to smell it on my hubs. Not pretty enough to buy a bottle at those prices haha but pretty enough to enjoy the decant I have for the summer. The only thing is I swear I sprayed like 6 sprays and can barely smell it 4 hours later, so….
I like that one! Not enough to buy, but if a bottle fell into my lap…
You smelled great while it lasted.
Safran Troublant today: the Platonic ideal of perfume for me. I am not kidding! This is the first perfume I fell in love with, so it is what perfume is to me.
Love it. Can you believe I haven’t sniffed that one yet? It’s so loved here and I have a feeling I’d love it too. I need to order a sample.
What! Ok, I’ll send you a small sample. I don’t have much, just a smallish decant, but I have enough that I can send you 1ml to help you experience the greatness that is Safran Troublant.
I’m having trouble with the Platonic Ideal project – thank you for sharing your thoughts! It’s really helping.
And you smell freaking amazing. Lurve Safran Troublant.
Ah! Well I have lots of thoughts on Platonic ideals of various perfumes. I might as well tell you that on Friday, I plan to wear Tam Dao because it’s the Platonic ideal of my skin scent (it’s magical! on me, it smells the way my skin would smell in my fantasies; it smells more of me than I do!).
But then also, I will wear Guerlain Vetiver sometime this week because that’s the Platonic ideal of vetiver for me; when I try to recall what vetiver itself is supposed to smell like, the scent of Guerlain Vetiver springs unbidden to my mind.
Maybe those thoughts will help you with your choices this week!
I’m also having trouble. I don’t understand what the difference is between platonic ideal and just regular ideal is?
One definition of a Platonic Ideal is: “the first and perfect template of everything we encounter in the physical world.” So, the most delicious peach that you have ever eaten in summer would be your platonic ideal of what a peach is. Unless you hate peaches! ?
Broke into a Gallivant discovery set today and am trying Amsterdam and Berlin. At first sniff I thought…where’s the vanilla? ? but these are blooming nicely on me. I think I prefer Berlin.
Last night I was perusing Fragrantica, as one does before bed, and I saw Michelle Pfeiffer has launched a perfume line with 2 IFF noses and promptly bought the sample set which came to $27.40 with tax and shipping to sample the 5 fragrances. No affiliation with Fragrantica or Ms. Pfeiffer sadly but I am affiliated with late night impulse purchases. Two of the perfumes have vanilla it appears. ?
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Michelle-Pfeiffer-Presents-the-Henry-Rose-Collection-12093.html
You may like Istanbul if it’s in your Gallivant coffret. It has a lot of vanilla to my nose.
I second this for vanilla
There is an article in the Guardian today by Tania Sanchez about Michelle Pfeiffer’s “clean” ( toxic free) perfume claims
This made me laugh! I hope those samples tickle you in the right places. ??
Another vote for Istanbul! I prefer Amsterdam personally, but it’s got nothing to do with vanilla.
You smell great even if you’re not vanilla enough for your tastes. I love Amsterdam – it’s on my full bottle list.
Hello Fragrant Friends,
Wearing my favorite office scent today…..Prada Infusion d’Iris. It’s always perfect for the occasion: soft, understated, and close to the skin. Good stuff!
Agree. Very versatile, but especially great for office/business environment. You smell excellent.
Opardu! I haven’t worn it in so long. It smells opulent and beautiful.
I so nearly wore that today since I hadn’t worn in a long time and now kinda wish I was wearing that instead ? You do smell beautiful!
I’m sure you do too swaning around in an airy cloud of LOTV and marshmallow. I had a sample of YID that I passed along to my cousin daughter because she recently got married. I thought she’d get a kick out of it.
Yeah, I get you on the bitter, but I’m not getting it as a bitter green- it smells disconnected from the green floral notes to me. Like a synthetic bitter, if that makes sense at all.
I hope she liked it or was at least amused by the name!
She usually weares Juicy so probably not! ?
Hi all, posting my SOTD a bit late, but it’s Diptyque’s Ofresia, so pretty and light, I love the peppery notes. I just checked Fragrantica and apparently Olivia Giacobetti designed it, no wonder I love it so much. 🙂
In Celmentine California today, and hoping for a return to yesterday’s wonderful weather. Today reminds me too much of Northern California–just the wrong level of hot/cold, so it almost never felt pleasant.
I got it into my head yesterday that I wanted a tube of Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey , the only lip colour I ever really loved and wore back in the 80s. Does anyone remember it? It was sheer and almost aubergine coloured in the tube. Anyway, turns out that I might have had more luck hunting down a unicorn because apparently there was never a Black Honey etc and/ or it was discontinued. Any ideas for a similar colour gratefully received. Managed to wrestle a spray of aromatics elixir from the tester and stomped off in a disgruntled rose and oakmoss fug. I read that Marc Jacobs got married the other day, wonder what perfume he wore. Santal Majuscule today.
Black honey is still available, at least here in the US. There is also a whole makeup line using the “Black Honey” moniker that Clinique launched a while back- everything from eyeshadow to blush, to the original lip product, as well as a newer Black Honey lipstick. Cha-CHING!
Yes. and I thought I still had some, but what I have is Prescriptives Black Currant. Slender pewter tube.
But I distinctly remember Black Honey being a cult thing.
Here’s an article — I’m seeing it on Sephora and Amazon US.
https://www.racked.com/2017/6/6/15731734/clinique-black-honey-almost-lipstick-cult-worth-it
#lipstick thetan
I got a Black Honey recently, don’t despair! It is a classic.
I agree….Black Honey is still around in the US! I just finished a tube a few weeks ago. Maybe you can order online?
If it’s not available in NZ, the Clinique Chubby Stick in Richer Raisin is close. I actually prefer that color as it has more red/brown in it. Same sheerness though.
#Not a silly old fantasist after all
I am glad to hear it exists and I could buy off Amazon for $45 …but that was yesterday’s obsession and obsessions (like certain perfumes) are fleeting. #searching for Richer raisin.
It’s available in Canada too. I still have a Black Honey eye pencil that came out a while back with a built in sharpener. A cheap and cheerful product I love and recommend are the “Oh Sugar” lip balms from Cover Girl. I don’t like dark, heavy lipsticks so these are perfect for me. Sheer colour, very moisturizing and nice shades.
You are not losing your marbles! Clinique Black Honey did exist, and still does here in the US. I have one in my purse right now. If you have access to the “Fresh” line of lip balms, the “Fig” one might work out for you.
Black honey almost lipstick exists – I was wearing it today! Still very available in the USA.
I love the Black Honey nail polish Clinique made a few years ago. It was the absolute perfect oxblood color. I wish I had purchased more than one bottle.
Very funny musings today Kanuka!
You made me smile!
Had a business meeting for the first half of workday, wore Atelier Cologne Silver Iris.
Iris is perfect for business!
I often wore Chanel 28 la Pausa for important meetings. Unfortunately, that association now detracts a bit from choosing it for more carefree occasions.
Also, great question about Marc Jacobs, and did the notorious dress guy wear a bridal gown? ?
Posting late again today. I think I don’t like that trend at all. Hopefully I will get my schedule back on its leash tomorrow! On the plus side, it’s another warm day. Much more to my liking though, at 72 degrees F, rather than yesterday’s somewhat sticky 82. Spring flowers are popping up and out all over the place. ??????
SOTD = back in Voleur de Roses.
Your weather sounds perfect. I hope tomorrow is a normal day for you. Glad your sample is working for you!
The forecast for the rest of the week is bouncing around a bit as far as temps are concerned, but nothing really icky is showing up. The “worst” temps are right around 60 degrees F for the high. ??
I’m still waiting for the Pine Barrens to go into pollen production overdrive this spring. I’m not upset that it hasn’t happened yet, though. ?
Hi jalapeno! I kind of like the later posts. I’m usually checking in on my breaks or after I get home and look forward to seeing you?
Awww, that’s a sweet thing to say, lillyjo! I do prefer posting around 5pm, though… it fits into the evening schedule a little easier than 6pm.
The earliest I can see, to read these days is 8:00 pm, so I’m still seeing your posts! Good luck with the pollen – my porch is currently neon green. I hope you avoid excessive pollen.
Oh wow! That is a LOT of pollen for you to deal with. I am hoping we don’t have a massive dump this year. There have been a couple of years recently where the pollen counts were just brutal. Even the cats were sneezing.
Today I am wearing Atelier Flou Sloane Rose. It’s a green and powdery rose on me and is very much to my liking. Great in spring. I am sure I’ll like it in summer, too.
A green and powdery rose sounds like a good choice for spring weather. ?
I’m wearing Musc 25 today. It’s my “clear head, got to get this done!” perfume.
Work and life have been absolutely insane. Spring break starts on Saturday, and I’m super excited to be heading to Calgary to see my family. Starting to ponder my perfume choices for the trip – just a few samples, or one bottle to enjoy through the week?
Maybe take one bottle, and a couple of samples just in case you feel the need to switch it up.
**waving from BC**
If you are flying, I’d take samples that I know I like. I like to switch it up on holidays, plus less weight. They can go in your purse through security.
Just a quick pop in to say I’m wearing L’Heuere Bleue EDT from the swap meet.
Sprayed on some Oolang Infini for tonight.
Crazy busy day here too, so I needed something calm to take a few breaths. We are still working on the transition of companies, so the extra pressure every day is taking its toll on everyone. At least we are all feeling the same thing, so there’s the comfort level.
Still waiting for my Fragrancenet order of ISM and Guerlain Vetiver. I received an email stating that I needed to pay $2.99; I seem to recall seeing there will be no extra charges; there never has been in the past. It looks like a phishing email with a link to ‘click here’; the email said it came from our National post office, but I think its totally fake as when I hover over the email address, it has spelling errors in it! I will wait until the weekend (if I don’t have my parcel) to go to my post office to have them check since the tracking number from the delivery company isn’t updated with a delivery date. Ugh!
That does seem like a scam! Hopefully the package will arrive soon. Fragrancenet is usually really slow though.
Fragrancenet could do a lot better with updating their shipment info. I usually have gaps in the updates when I order from them. However, I have NEVER had any extra charges on orders from them after shipment. That email smells super-fishy to me!
Iris 39 on the left, labdanum 18 on the right wrist. Sampling at Liberty London. Iris was not bad, but poor longevity. Labdanum was good, but much alike Musk Ravageur…
Ramen for dinner…
I wore MP&G Ambre Precieux last evening for a lovely mood changing
pampering. There are remnants this morning, that dry down is heavenly!
I still crave a FB, maybe one day.
I will wear Cartier’s L’Heure Perdue XI today, to continue my split meet wardrobe. I have found some true
Gems!!
