Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, and happy April Fools Day! You have another day left to join in the fun over at the swapmeet. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am fighting off the chill (where is spring?!?) with Lalique Encre Noir.
Reminder: on 4/5, wear a fragrance by Gallivant, Grès, Ginestet, Grossmith or Grandiflora, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter G.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Angel Cake Plate by Ali Miller ("Enjoy a delicious slice of cake on one of Ali Miller’s whimsical “Angel” cake plates. Made from fine bone china, this cake plate design is inspired by the birth of Ali’s second daughter born at the beginning of Spring. The bunny image represents new life, Spring and Easter – with the angel figure enjoying the comfort and company of the quirky oversized bunny.") is $45 at Wolf & Badger.
I only have one perfume that fits the CP (Gres Cabaret) and I’m saving it for Friday, so I’m off-project in AG Grand Amour. At least there are some Gs in the brand and the perfume name!
I am likewise G-less.
Not really a comment directed at you in particular, but it bothers me that people often seem apologetic about not wearing a fragrance for the CP, which is only Friday and is only for fun anyway! I do it all week when I feel like it, but that’s rare.
Women are socialized to be apologetic and inoffensive (I’m sure there are men who do it habitually, but way more a women’s thing). A friend of mine who works for the WJS posted this on FB a couple of years ago and it made me take a serious look at my own apologetics, direct or subtle (especially using “I just…”).
Since then, I no longer correct typos or misspellings after I post something unless the meaning of the sentence isn’t clear. And I do not apologize for them. That was tough, but very liberating!!!
https://www.google.com/amp/s/mashable.com/2017/07/12/women-work-apologise-exclamation.amp
I’ve been working to reduce my apologies and my mitigating language (“in my opinion,” “I think,” “perhaps,” etc). I am still not great at it but I’m getting better!
I’ll string together a whole verbal sentence, opinion, thought and then say ” I don’t know, ya know?” ?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2015/06/23/opinion/when-an-apology-is-anything-but.amp.html
This was an interesting angle…
I think is also goes hand in hand with the extreme political correctness these days. No one is allowed to express opinions for fear “someone” taking offense.
Really, you can’t even smile, post an upbeat message, or have a differing opinion because “someone” will be offended, emergently call the boss, the police, the CEO, the executive director, the janitor, et al, and complain. Then the “memo” goes out to everyone else in the world to not express this or that due to potential “offensive comments.”
The people that are so easily offended by any and everyone expressing a differing opinion need to grow up and get over themselves. Just my opinion?
?
Deva, you are so right.
I had a bottle of Cabaret but I let my neighbor’s daughter choose a perfume to wear one day (she was 10 at the time) and she fell in love with the bottle so I gave it to her.
SOTD = Gorilla Perfumes Tuca Tuca, sample extra in a recent swap!
You smell great!
I’m saving my one G, Grés, for Friday, and since I missed Pencil Day yesterday, today I’m wearing the cedar immensity that is Serge Lutens Feminité du Bois. I don’t wear it nearly enough: it’s glorious.
I used to be able to wear that, and love it. Recently, though, a few of the Lutens that I used to adore have become a little screechy on me after a while. Now I use FdB as a home spray, for which it is perfectly suited.
These days, I usually only wear Douce Amere, or, when I am in the absolutely right mood, Serge Noire.
You, however, smell marvelous and undoubtedly non-screechy. 🙂
Slow moving this Monday morning. Kind of wish I just took the day off to adjust to being in TX all last week. Also, don’t want to face the massive amount of emails and work I pushed off while traveling.
Sunny out, but temp is 38 🙁
Hope to go for a nice brisk walk at lunch.
SOTD: Dipytique Eau des Sens
Good luck with the emails! I am slow moving too, for no good reason except it’s Monday, and it’s TOO COLD.
Gosh, yes, it was really cold again today! It was so nice on Saturday. The Philadelphia weatherpeople said the temperatures were supposed to go down again considerably this week, and I was like, “Nooo!”
Good morning Y’all…..37 degrees sure doesn’t feel like April! Glad I didn’t plant my tomatoes yet….
I’m IN LOVE y’all….IN LOVE. I recently bought my 1st bottle of Vol de Nuit Edt and I can’t get enough of it! I was definitely born in the wrong decade, as far as perfume goes. This might even replace my long time #1 Aromatics Elixir….we shall see! 🙂
SOTD= Guerlain Vol de Nuit!
Yay to being in love!!
VdN is fantastic, the best of classic perfumery. You smell beautiful. I love my bottle of edt. 😀
We are picking our tomatoes and for some reason we have quite a lot of self-seeded plants in odd places around the garden. I am glad you have perfume love!
A couple of years ago I had a HUGE, healthy squash plant come up in my flower bed….I love when that happens! 🙂
SOTD is Ginestet Botrytis.
I do not have enough scents for full points this week, but I can wear two Gritti scents for partial credit.
Botrytis is amazing stuff…….I may have to dig around for my sample for Friday!
Oh, I love Botrytis. I can’t ever find it for sale, though – Luckyscent has been out of stock forever.
You smell amazing!
Finished a bottle of vintage BaV yesterday. While I was doing a cleaning rearranging thing in my bedroom, I found a vintageish 1.2 ounce bottle of no 19 under my dresser. Don’t know how it got there and it’s 1/3 to 1/2 full. Went I counted my perfume bottles, I have roughly 95+ bottles of perfume. I haven’t put my perfume bottles in my bedroom yet since I haven’t a lot of space that works yet for my collection. Wearing vintage Miss Dior pre shower. I will be wearing Sarrasins post shower.
Oh, nice find! I adore No. 19…..
This is the perfumista equivalent of finding $50 in forgotten coat pocket
Ha, exactly!!
Exactly!
SOTD: Chanel No 19 EDT (Thanks Hajusuuri – still thoroughly enjoying my decant!)
Today I’m starting a monthlong gratitude challenge through my workplace, so I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the community here at NST. I look forward to the SOTD posts every day. This truly is one of the kindest corners of the internet. Thanks all for brightening up my mornings (and sending lots of samples!) and thanks Robin for providing a place for us to come together.
Hear, hear!
I second this thought. One of my favorite virtual places! Robin, thank you for all your hard work keeping this running so smoothly and entertainingly. 🙂
neroli-scented hugs to you, holyneroli, I’m grateful for you! 😀
Oh my, you are welcome, and I am grateful for everyone who keeps coming here to chat, and…I badly need to do a gratitude challenge of my own — what a good idea.
Yes to all of this 🙂
I heartily second (or third/fourth/fifth) this sentiment!
That’s a great thing your work is doing! And I whole-heartedly share your gratitude for this awesome community ?
Very well expressed and I am so happy to have joined NST a while back – also, because of the CP I find myself reaching for unfairly neglected bottles.
Have a happy month! Thanks NST
I feel the same way! I look forward to my fragrant fix every morning…. 🙂
Well…first of all you smell gorgeous. No. 19!
Second…totally agree on being grateful for this forum. And I love that your company is doing this. It’s amazing how much simply choosing to be grateful can impact our lives.
I am feeling very grateful today too. Hear hear!
Yes to all of this! Very grateful for NST and its company of kind, compassionate, good-smelling souls.
Adding thankfulness for the community too!
Hi all, SOTD is L’Arte di Gucci (EDP) by Gucci.
Twins!
What a gorgeous rose, why do so many great things get discontinued? You both smell wonderful.
Thank you! It’s a real drag, isn’t it?
You smelled so wonderful today! ???
I should have worn Folavril today, but I forgot it was April 1, and chose Bottega Veneta Knot instead.
You smell perfect anyway. I used to really like Knot, but forgot about it for awhile.
I miss Folavril!
I love Knot, but don’t know where I put my bottle. *sigh*
Caron Aimez Moi
Oh yum, I should drag mine out.
Aldi Pomegranate. I just bought Neil Chapman’s Book “Perfume – In Search Of Your Signature Scent” (though for me maybe it should be called “Perfume – Enabling You To Become An Even Bigger Scent Slut”). It’s beautifully presented and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
Can’t wait till it’s available in the US! I love his blog, I’m sure the book is fabulous.
Wow that sounds like a book ? i need to read
LOL 😀
Another one LOL!
Do let us know what you think of the book. I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon, and it should arrive in a couple of weeks.
How’s the Aldi compared to JM? I haven’t seen any in the US, but my Lidl has some dupes….
There are Lidls in America?!
Just got the 1st one in the Atlanta area! I think there are more up north….
There’s a Lidl somewhere in the Philly suburbs I think.
To be honest I can’t really say – it’s been ages since I was in a JM boutique, but it sure smells good to me. I bought the body lotion, hand and body wash, room spray and reed diffuser as well. The rose one is fantastic too. And the lime, basil and mandarin one…
I never get the Malone-y range at my Aldi. I do quite like the Superdrug dupes. I wear the fig and cassis quite a bit. Not a lot of staying power of course but I find that is true of JM as well.
Mine has shipped but not arrived yet. Wah!
Recieved the Gallivant discovery set from a lovely NSTer a little bit ago, so testing my way through them is the week’s project! First up is Tel Aviv. A springy white floral with a pinch of citrus. A little close to shampoo-y for me to love but it matches my floral print, so I do feel coordinated.
I am in the lovely and spicy Œillet Bengale!
Question for NYC folks: what are good places to go sniffing on the Upper West Side or thereabouts? I will be in the city for work this weekend and want to checkout fragrant goodies but not venture too far from conference
It’s been a few years, but I don’t remember the Upper West Side as being a great sniffing destination. Closest is probably Bergdorf Goodman at 5th and 59th which is basically the edge of midtown
I’ll second this. It’s faster to get to 59th st than to go across town to the upper east side which has more of the sniffing opportunities. Bergdorf’s has a pretty good selection.
Is Bergdof friendly? I get intimidated by super high end consumer spaces
Yeah, more or less. Some of the SAs can be a little aggressive. But, I’ve also gotten a decent amount of manufacturer samples from some brands there (Perris-Monte Carlo, Ex Nihilo, Hermes, Chantecaille…) in the past.
There is a list published on NST!
https://nstperfume.com/perfume-shopping-in-new-york-city/
There’s not much on the UWS. Venture to the east side (Madison Ave is a good bet) or downtown.
Thanks!
How far up will you be? And are you using public transit? I agree with the Bergdorfs idea for broad sniffing.
I am on 77th so walking distance- will check it out!
If you’re going to Bergdorfs, try to see if Krigler at The Plaza is open. It’s the only storefront (well, it’s really just a counter) where you can smell Krigler without swapping for them or paying for samples. Also, bring atomizers and dabber vials with you in case the SAs say they would love to give you samples but have ran out of atomizers. If you know exactly when you’ll be there, I can find out if the Guerlain SA and the Kilian SA I know will be there. Oh and you must at least try JAR at Bergdorfs.
I’m almost on topic and didn’t even know it – in Ann GGGGerard Ciel d’Opale. Why? I bought a body shop bodylotion at Marshals yesterday called “Sweetenia” and it matches Ciel d’Opale pretty closely – the perfume is more complex, but they do really resemble each other.
Had a lot of fun playing with swapmeet samples over the weekend!
Oh interesting, who makes the lotion?
In ELDO Fils de Dieu, Part Deux. Part Un was last night before bed. You know you made the right full bottle choice when every time you wear it, you fall deeper in love. ?#nofullbottleregret.
Been busy as the dickens! Not my style. I prefer to be aimless and vaguely bored. ?
a wandering mind is a beautiful thing. 😉
you smell great in Fils de Dieu, such a fantastic name.
Thanks, and it is a GREAT name??
Well, I went over to Luckyscent to check out the notes for ELDO Fils de Dieu. Good gracious, it sounds wonderful.
It is! If you’d like some, hit me up at taiga101 in the land of yahooligans. I have a couple 5-10ml travel spritzers somewhere in this black hole of a van✌?
I’m taking you up on that – just because I feel I need to support you in your efforts to keep the van organized……not really. I really want to try this out, because it has so many notes that I love, and I am a sucker for a really good rice accord.
Anytime! My schedule is a bit hectic at the mo, but I should be able to get it out to you within the next week or so. Just email me your deets and I’ll drop you a line when I post it. ✌?
Vaguely bored is so underatted. Hope you get less busy soon ?
Me too! ?
You smell great, though!
Thanks, and right back at ya! ✌?
Probably my very fave EldO ever! sooooooo good!
It’s such a nice combination of wearable yet unique. I don’t find that too often. We’re ELDO loving twins with this one. ????
I am very bored and all the useful things I could be doing don’t appeal. But this will only last for a week until I get back to Montréal and then I’ll be busier than a one-armed paper hanger, so I’m just biding my time, trying to not buy any more perfume. 🙂
Well then, that’s pretty dang busy. I’d love to make it to Montreal one day, although the only French I remember from high school is “j’une said pas,” which seems a pretty safe answer to just about anything ?
I just heard a “busy as” the other day which made me hoot very politically incorrectly: “busier than a one legged man kicking a$$!”?
My dad used that “busier than a one legged man…” comment a lot!
I’m in April Aromatics Liquid Dreams again since it’s the only sample I had with me when I came to the rehab center. Doing OK today and trying to wean off the “hard stuff” pain killer due to unpleasant side effects. So far so good. Also trying to set up a Skype or other video session to use for teaching my classes tomorrow. Hope that works out all right and hope I can do it (my stamina is low).
PS I plumb forgot to say my rabbits today. Darn. I love that plate in the picture, but can offer that I saw some extremely cute bunny plates in Pier One on a recent visit, for a lot less money, and they’re probably either on sale already or going to go on sale soon. Just in case anyone is in the mood for some fun holiday decorating. I was sorry to read in an article yesterday that Pier One is among various companies on the brink of closing or bankruptcy–along with Neiman-Marcus, Petsmart, and more.
I saw enough rabbits for the both of us on my walk yesterday. They were all very healthy and plump . I hope you get your skype to work and I admire your dedication.
Where did you read the article about the bankruptcies? I always like to hear about the details of why certain retail models work or don’t work, the economy is fascinating to me.
Interesting… Mr. Jalapeno had also mentioned something about Neiman Marcus and financial issues lately. Not surprised about seeing Pier One, though.
Right…I am surprised they made it this long.
Hope you feel better soon <3
So glad you are doing ok Calypso! Hope you are even better than ok very quickly.
I have nothing by any of the houses mentioned for the CP. Have to expand my samples horizon a little. 🙂
SOTD = Diorissimo EDT, over top of BPAL’s Sea of Glass oil, which reads as LOTV to my nose, but must be pretty much straight ambergris, with a little citrus on top, I guess, since all the reviews of it say, “i don’t know what this smells like, but it smells great…” Anyway, it boosts Diorissimo’s staying power, or at least blends well enough that once the perfume fades the scent that lingers seems to be a continuation of the theme.
Interesting, will have to look up that oil. Love the name, too.
A lot of BPAL’s descriptions lean too Goth to tempt me, but this one is from the “American Gods” line riffing on Neil Gaiman’s book/TV show, so it’s just weird in a different direction. 🙂 Their blurb also has no notes in it, just airy scene setting, and I bought it on a whim, and am delighted to have gotten such a pleasant and useful scent. I immediately bought a back up, for the first time ever. I would be happy to send you a little sample, just to find out what notes you identify in it, if you are interested?
Oh, and it’s one of the NG set, cool! Sure, I’d love to try it.
I actually have some that will fit the CP, but today I’m wearing one of my latest acquisitions, Sous les magnolias by Pierre Bourdon. It’s a gorgeous floral chypre, very Sunny and cheerful. Donatella will be proud of me tomorrow.
Love magnolia and really should try that one.
It’s excellent. Both Angela and Denyse have reviewed this. Plus it was called a very good Diorella by a famous perfumer.
I did read Angie’s, just haven’t run across the line yet — I will eventually!
Wow, this sounds great!
It is. The only problem is availability. I bought mine in Paris. I haven’t found anywhere online.
Sotd: Essence No. 9 Tubereuse by Elie Saab. Well-behaved (for a tuberose scent, anyway), uncomplicated, and in the far dry down, comes curiously close to Carnal Flower, without the melon and coconut angle. Lovely stuff and since I got it at a discounter, my pocket is thrilled.
I saw this and others at the discounters. Thanks for the imput. I’ve been thinking about the #3? The Amber one, but I’ve smelled nothing in this line.
Some of the discounters have 5ml bottles that were produced by the brand. Someone I was chatting with on another blog bought the Essence No. 1 Rose and fell in love. I’d love to get that amber one, as well. (The Perfumed Court has various sample sizes of the amber one…I just checked for you.)
Thanks for this info!
SotD = Tauer Tuberose Flash
I smell like orange blossom, jasmine, tuberose, labdanum, benzoin, and patchouli. That’s according to Fragrantica rather than my nose. I smell tuberose and Tauer-ade. TF also gives me a little bit of that carbonated ginger ale smell that some BWF scents have on my skin. I adore this fragrance.
Happy Monday, y’all, I’m rootin’ for each one of us to have a fantastic and fragrant. week.
I love the smell of ginger ale. Here’s a random question, does California have the soft drink Vernors? Asking because my cousins tell me that it’s not sold in the east, and that it’s just a Midwest pop. They stock up when they are here.
I’ve seen it in Florida. But then, Florida is filled with people from the Midwest…
Lol this is so true. I’m from Michigan and it seemed like almost every kid I went to school with had grandparents in Florida.
I’ve lost many a loved one to Florida, lol
I only know it as a midwest thing, and don’t remember seeing it when I lived in SF, and never in NYC.
I first drank Vernors ginger ale while living in New Jersey. I see it at a few grocery stores here in southern California, my Ralph’s has it.
Vernors is so delicious, tho I love ginger every which way. Pickled ginger, candied ginger, fresh ginger in tea, chocolate covered ginger from Trader Joe’s, and Ginger People’s ginger chews are always on hand at my house.
My new favorite ginger drink is Bundaberg ginger beer from Australia. Bundaberg is non-alcoholic and very smooth, just the right amount of ginger. Reed’s has too much heat for me.
Bundaberg is perfect over ice in a glass with mint, lime juice+zest and your favorite clear spirits should you be so inclined. A little bird told me Malibu coconut rum is awesome with Bundaberg. 😀
Ooh that sounds nice- fellow ginger lover here
ginger is fantastic! 😀
Your ginger drink sounds really good!
Vernors’ ginger ale is fantastic! Recently I was drinking some, freshly poured into a cup. When every sip was making me cough a little, I realized how strong the ginger was in it! Drinking straight from the can or a straw held back the ginger’s effect. It was awesome! ?
Vernors is definitely ginger-y. Love it!
Every time my daughter drinks it she says I love Vernors, it makes me sneeze. So true but so good!
I’ve never seen it in CA! But I haven’t been looking for it.
Vernors pops up in the most unexpected places. 😀
You smell great! Amouage Interlude woman smells like ginger ale to me too. Fun stuff!
I know what you mean. I think Interlude smells like some kind of fizzy soda too.
I think I have seen Vernor’s at either Whole Foods or Wegman’s some time in the past when looking for something else. Not sure about that, though.
SoTD is Aramis Devin, which I am wearing in greater quantities today and so am enjoying much more! Now the dilemma is I still want to try the vintage, but how on earth can I justify it since I basically have a gallon of the new? I suppose I must wait for a deal.
Is it possible to find the vintage?
There seem to be a few on ebay though it’s hard to tell the versions apart and they’re more than I want to spend when I already have so much of the new formula. I’ll hover for a better price.
It’s spring break this week for the kids, not me. Totally forgot to triple rabbit this morning, as I was very confused to what day it was. I’m trying to kick start my spring cleaning. I have alot of books I don’t know if i should donate or take to the used book store. Sotd is Angel Violette. They should really re release this collection. Although, who am I kidding, it wouldn’t be as good, lol. Happy Monday everyone ?
I love your choice of scent, and I agree.
Thank you!
Lillyjo, I’ve had a decant of FM Superstitious on my swap list for a week, but no one is biting. I remember you talking about wanting to buy a travel size. Well, can I send you my 4.5ml decant? It’s strong stuff so that should hold you over for a while. Email me at gmail using my NST username. ?
Oh that woud be wonderful! I can email after work tonight. Thank you!
I’ve never tried Angel Violette but I bet you smell great!
Thanks! Funny, I almost posted that you might like this version of Angel. For one, it’s a dabber, so not much projection. It’s powdery lipstick on me with a hint of Angel patchouli.
G is for Gradiflora Queen of the Night today.
I love that too! It’ll be my Friday scent and possibly earlier. I had a friend bring it here to me today so I’d be able to participate in the CP. Plus, it’s just beautiful.
I may save it for Friday!
Once again, I forgot to rabbit. Ah well. SOTD is Eau des Merveilles, all by itself for once.
On an unrelated note, have any of you heard of ulio&jack (as a brand) Drifter (as the scent name)? One of my coworkers mentioned it and I’ve never run across it before.
Never heard of it but channeling our tiffanie with Yes to Hermes!
You are the first person to mention ulio&jack to me. I haven’t seen any mention of it where I get perfume info.
Nicolai New York today, ahhhh. Had an early doctor’s appointment this morning and the temperature was 28F when I left, although bright and sunny. I think it’s soared to 39F now 😉 But they’re predicting mid 60s for the weekend, yay! It’s lovely to watch spring slowly unfold, we had snow on the ground this time last year.
We have snow here. Boo
You have my sympathy ? there were lake effect snow showers yesterday but it didn’t stick.
Hope all went well at the dr’s appt!
In Bulgari Black today, hoping that it would be warm while also being a spring scent. Not warm enough…
You do smell incredible though ?
That’s a great perfume tho 🙂
Nice!
It’s Monday, ugh. I’m wearing Organza for a day of chores. Double ugh.
Well, you smell lovely for a day of chores! Hope there’s some comfort in that. ?
Hope they went quickly!
SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’Eau
I was tickled pink that my local Nordstrom had one left of the L’Eau hand cream (which I bought). To celebrate, my SOTD is L’Eau, lots of it. I think it is the fragrance for which I have the most of; 100 mL, 50mL, 35mL, 3 x 10 (I think) travel spray set, hand cream. If I can get my hand in the shower gel, it will also join the collection.
Do you use all the bottles, or are you going through them one at a time?
Whichever one is handy gets sekected. The only one I have not used is the travel spray.
Sheesh! What do you need so many different sizes for? Is it because you like how cute the bottles are?
I didn’t know there was a travel spray set. Once my no-buy is lifted (soon, I hope?!! soonish?), I’ll see if I can find one to split. How lovely of them to offer it in such a variety of sizes!
It started with the 50mL (since I didn’t need the 100), then I saw the 35mL at Sephora and got it for the cute factor, next cane the travel spray which I’m pretty sure I got in Barcelona Duty Free because it’s the safest packaging for travel , then the 100mL because Red bottle.
Ahhh…I feel like I am supposed to think that’s crazy, but in fact, every purchase makes total sense! I guess that just goes to show that I am a nut too. It’s funny that you didn’t need the 100 but instead you have ended up with 100+50+35+30=215mL 🙂
(Yeah, the 35 mL really was cute and I was sad to miss out on it! I wonder if there are still any floating around.)
Try Sephora for the 35 mL!
Oh score, Sephora still sells the 35 mL! Great 🙂 Something for me to look forward to.
Sounds like a lifetime supply of No. 5 L’eau. ?
TDC Bois d’Iris today, even though I can’t smell it. I’m on Day 4 of this headcold!
24 degrees this morning… Does Mother Nature know about April Fools’?
Yes, I’m afraid she does. We had snow flurries yesterday. Hope you feel better soon.
Hope it clears up soon! And speaking of Bois d’Iris, looking forward to being twins with you in that scent sometime soon 🙂
You smell great! I hope you feel better and can smell soon enough!
Oh yes, Mother Nature sure does! There’s a freeze warning for my area tonight.
April Fools Day!
1) Late to work this morning- UGH! Friend came over LATE last night and I slept in – for two 2 hours! My own personal April’s Fool.
2) In Fresh Cream Soft Suede, which is perfect for the mild weather of this morning.
3) My B day month! Huzzah!
Is that a new release from Fresh? Sounds intriguing. Do you like it?
Hey late to this!
This is relatively new from Philosophy. It came out in December 2018 on QVC. It is NOT a leather scent; rather it is a warm-ish sweet skin musk scent, very cuddly warm clean, yet persistent. Good for the office or just wearing casually.
I was feeling aldehyde-deficient this morning so I’m wearing No 5 edp. I think my levels have returned to normal ?
Whew!
🙂
Chinchilla!
Yummy ?
Lovely! ?
Every time I read Chinchilla, I feel like I should scratch an itch – a literal itch, not the itch to buy!
I wished for something fruity this morning so I went for AdP Fico di Amalfi, but it’s a bit too soon, I did not get enough of the amazing development of the scent today.
I had a moment’s perfume fatigue this morning. I’ve got some of my swap treats already, but I haven’t had time to organize them properly, so everything is kind of sitting out, along with everything I pulled out for swapmeet decants. It was all just so visually unappealing that I nearly didn’t put on any perfume at all, but then Safran Troublant rescued me. No Gs anywhere in its name or in the house name, but SUCH a great anytime perfect scent.
I had quite a fun weekend! It was sunny and warm, so I went on a couple bikerides through streets and bayside trails and by wooded creeks, and went for a couple swims for the first time in 2019, I think, so now all of my body is a low-grade ache. Then there was that wonderful community garden we volunteered at, which yielded enough greens for our Sunday night dinner. Then there was a multicultural festival downtown that yielded some yummy food, and dinner at a Cuban restaurant I used to love in grad school, where we ate so much that I couldn’t stand straight (seriously!). And then my a cappella group rehearsed a song I arranged and everyone said nice things about my arrangement, which made me feel all glow-y and preen-y inside, because I had put my heart and soul into it.
All this to say that I did not manage to mail out swapmeet packages this morning. But SOON! I’m comforted by the fact that not all of my swap partners have mailed their sides of things yet either 🙂
The weather is back to being gloomy, so I guess I had better get back to work.
What a weekend! So many enjoyable things.
It was great! Good weather makes nearly everything better. The first perfect weekend of the year 🙂 I’ll hope for many more.
What a fun weekend, Koyel! I didn’t know that you are so musical, such a source of joy ?
Music is probably the biggest source of joy in my life. I sing and play piano, and nothing brings me as much peace and comfort as making music. Are you also musical?
Yes! I play the piano, my husband is a drummer and our adult daughter is seeking voice lessons at the moment. Between the three of us, we have unstoppable music encyclopedias in our brains 🙂 This year is our 35th wedding anniversary and our daughter and her husband have gotten us tickets to see Paul McCartney in their home town, better yet, they are going with us! I can’t wait 🙂
Oh how wonderful!! I expect you accompany each other sometimes?
Heh, it’s too bad you’re nowhere near me. I’ve been meaning to get back into teaching music; I used to do it when I was younger but haven’t done it in some years. I’d love to find some students for piano and voice lessons. I hope she finds a great teacher!
I was feeling uninspired this morning too! I think I’ve been pressuring myself to Really Enjoy My Collection and sometimes you just wanna smell nice and not think about it.
Heh, the equivalent of a fashionista just wanting to wear a sweatshirt and leggings in soft fabrics, eh? Yes, sometimes I forget that the point of this whole perfume thing is just to make myself happy.
Great weekend!
It really was lovely 🙂 And very active! I hope to have more weekends like that!
Sounded like a great weekend. And now you’re very energized for the week ahead!
Grandiflora Boronia. The opening seems to get sharper smelling each time I wear it. Bit chilly and dark here , sunrise is around 8 so my morning forest walk is very gloomy though I do see the sunrise strike .
I tried Karen Walker’s new men’s perfume Monumental yesterday. It reminds me of one of the early CDG perfumes, the original but a bit sweeter .
Lemming news. i bought one of those Aesop oil burners ( blind buy) and it is slightly less nice looking than in the photo ( something to do with scale, I think). My husband calls it ‘the bidet’ but that is a bit unfair. However, it doesn’t heat up with the tea lights I have. So, despite burning through 3 candles I haven’t managed to detect any benefit, and the pool of oil hasn’t got any smaller ( just stickier).
Have a lovely week everyone. Get out in the sun!
I saw some rave reviews of that one, but when I tried it in the store, I just felt “meh” about it. Perhaps it’s a bit of an acquired taste?
I really think my problem is that I know what boronia (the plant) smells like and that has coloured my response.
I am told the boronia in Goldfield & Banks Southern Bloom is not true to the flower either. This sounds similar to the great magnolia conundrum, where no perfume smells as good as the actual flower.
Oh, drat about the oil burner!! Is it supposed to burn with tea lights, I can’t remember?
I’ll be wearing Grandiflora perfumes all week. Last month I found an amazing deal on eBay, so I have bottles of all 5 of the perfumes. I’m still trying to figure out which are keepers and which to swap.
Today I’m in Magnolia Grandiflora – Michel. It’s a pretty, airy floral. It’s very nice, but I have a feeling I’ll end up swapping it.
I have a smidge left of this one. It’s so nice! Think I’ll wear it Friday.
Despite lots of new things, I’m going for an old favourite today, Vol de Nuit. It’s a recent EdT, and it’s lovely.
I have several Gallivant samples I could use for Friday. Hopefully I will able to smell by then.
Commando today since I’m still battling this cold. I look forward to reading how great you all smell though!
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Feel better soon! Lots of head colds today.
Feel better soon, KellyC!
Hope you feel better very soon!
Feel better soon! ?
Feel better KellyC!
SOTD = Kelly Calèche EdT. Been awhile since I’ve worn this and am enjoying the soft leather.
Decided to prank my sister’s for April Fools by group texting that I had made an appointment to dye my hair in a pink/purple bayalage… first sister was all “cool…send photos”. Second sister just said “you’re lying.” I guess you can’t fool everyone…
Nice! The biggest joke on them would be to actually do it. I was considering something along those lines recently, but my current contract’s dress code states “No UNNATURAL hair color allowed.” Hmmm….I’d say 50% of the women there are “unnatural” right now, but acceptable (I guess) in varying shades of blonde, brown, and black…
What! Why would they need to regulate a nurse’s hair color?! As if hair color would affect your ability to do your job! I personally am never a fan of unnatural hair colors (I genuinely don’t think they ever flatter anyone), but I’m outraged that that is part of a dress code!
Wow. That’s pretty conservative. There’s a nurse in one of my facilities who has deep green hair which matches their scrubs color ?
The hospital originally was “Franciscan,” so that may be why. Most hospitals now have uniform solid scrubs, the color designating the role, supposedly to help “identify” staff to patients. I think it’s a bunch of baloney, as I used get good comments all the time on my fun scrubs, but now no one says a thing. Boring is the word of the day, all day, every day.
What the what? Not surprised though as I am the product of a Roman Catholic school (and I’m not even Catholic!).
Me too, and me neither! ?
You rebel you! I’ve had my share of troubles ?
Samsara edp from an older bottle. I am really enjoying this, but it seems too sophisticated for my current attire of leggings and sweatshirt, lol. ?
Samsara plus a comfy sweatshirt sounds pretty good to me!
Hello, I’m new(ish) here – I’ve been a reader for a while. I recently rediscovered my love of perfume and this seemed like the right place to share it. It’s nice to meet you all.
My sotd is Jo Malone Earl grey and cucumber. Which doesn’t smell like earl grey at all. Or cucumber for that matter. What it does smell like to me is beeswax, milky and lightly dusted with soft spices. It’s quite lovely on a chilly but bright day and I’m enjoying it, despite it not being anything like what I was expecting.
???! Today is also “Fossil Fools Day” according to Wikipedia.

Stressful weekend for me. Spooky kitty was not feeling well at all on Saturday, so I called the vet on Sunday to get her an appointment this week. Here’s hoping that the vet can get her feeling better. I did lurk on the weekend post, and was rather pleased to read about good news and positive events happening. So thank you, NSTers, for that. It was a bright spot.
SOTD = Knize Ten Toilet Water (that’s what the label says) from the sample stash.
I’m sure this smells divine, but wow, what a name 🙂
Well…it’s the literal translation of eau de toilette.
Not really (pasting from the wisdom of the web):
“toilet” in the English sense of “restrooom” is called “toiletteS” in French.
But the singular “toilette” in French means something completely different. We call “la toilette” of a woman, her outfit, and sometimes her make up, when she is dressed for a special event. So “eau de toilette” actually means “water to be used before going out”. Although we don’t use the word “toilette” anymore because it refers mostly to outfits of the previous centuries, we still call this type of perfume “eau de toilette” 🙂
Actually, older English usage of the word “toilet” was the same as the current French usage of “la toilette.” So it is actually just directly translated to “toilet water”; it’s just that that’s no longer how we use the word “toilet.”
The Knize Ten is a great leather scent. Worth a sniff. It has more presence than some EdPs I have tried.
My sister and BIL got a dog recently and they are willing to cross the state over to Staten Island and pay tolls to go to a bet there (it happens to be open 7 days a week but that’s not the reason why they go there…it’s because it’s the vet that friends of theirs use). Meanwhile there is a vet clinic < a mile from where they live…
I hope spooky kitty bounces back quickly!
Thanks hajusuuri. I hope it isn’t anything serious. The vet I am taking Spooky to is about a 15 minute drive away unless it is rush hour traffic… then it’s about 30 minutes.
Healing vibes for kitty!
Thank you cazaubon.
Fingers crossed for poor Spooky kitty <3
Thanks Koyel.
Hope Spooky kitty gets better soon.
It was a gloriously hot, sunny day. I wore Kilian Intoxicated.
How wonderful. It hasn’t been hot here yet but last Saturday was sunny and warm enough to go out without a jacket. Woot!
Almost too late to comment. I am wearing everything at the moment since I was decanting perfume this evening. SOTD was Lumiere Blanche.
Not even! ? There are a few night owls here at NST. (Drat, no owl emoji.)
Funny, I never was a night owl in my younger years. I still consider myself a morning person, if only I could sleep! ?
I hope your Spooky kitty feels better soon.
Thanks Petunia. Me too.
I’m up! Lol, daughter can’t sleep, so neither can I.
Sometimes I end up catching up on blogs at the end of the day. On Thursday I mixed a couple of drops of vanilla essential oil into a couple of tablespoons of sweet almond oil again. I had that on the dry skin of my arms and legs on Thursday and Friday. Today I put it on again, and then put a couple of dabs from my sample of Vanille Insensee on my wrists. It was a victory in that it was the first Atelier Cologne sample I’ve tried that didn’t make Dad cough. His opinion is still that I should go outside to experiment with perfumes. “It’s too cold for that today, Dad!” I replied.
Dad does appreciate that I swapped away and will very shortly be sending off many of the fragrances that make him cough and wheeze and draw objections from Mom. Dad figured that I was trying to get “inoffensive” perfumes in return.
“How do you know they’ll be inoffensive?” was Mom’s question. Well, that’s why I’ll try them outside when it gets warmer. 🙂 Although Dad also has the attitude that he would be coughing and wheezing whether or not I was trying on perfumes. He has chronic bronchitis, so he has a point. I don’t want to exacerbate his symptoms, though.
I’ll keep in mind that vanilla seems to be a pretty tolerable fragrance note for the folks, all things considered.
I think it’s really nice that you compromise with them on perfume.
Thank you, lillyjo. It’s really more them saying, “While you live under our roof…” I could never afford an apartment in the area where we live, though. Dad’s generally pretty easygoing, though he did kick me out of the car at one point when I put a strongly-scented hand cream on. (We were at our destination. I just had to wait until the ballpark’s gates opened.)
Mom is highly critical, and apparently has grown super-sensitive to perfume and food scents. I mentioned to Koyel that I’m not allowed to bring any meals that have cilantro, curry or fenugreek scents into the house, either. That also cramps my style, but she and Dad now like everything to be extremely bland.
I worked as a nursing aide for some years during and after college, and have picked up other random medical knowledge over the years. Sometimes Mom will defer to me on medical issues. Dad will usually say, “I’m fine. I’m fine” until he’s sufficiently miserable, and then give up and go to the doctor. But I understand allergies and COPD from the layperson’s point of view.
