The last Friday in March! (It's also World Piano Day and Pearl Bailey's birthday.) Our community project for today: wear an orange blossom or neroli fragrance, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I am repeating last Friday in Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré.
Reminder: on 4/5, wear a fragrance by Gallivant, Grès, Ginestet, Grossmith or Grandiflora, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter G.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Holy Neroli NST clan and Robin – it’s Séville à l’Aube!
Scent twins! We smell great 🙂
We sure do!
You rang?
😉
Ha!
Hey it’s Lurch from the Addams Family! ??
I might have to put some of that on later today too 🙂
Hi twin! and thank you so much for the 60’s Batman reference. That was a Batman reference, right? Or is my dork flag flying a little higher today… Anyway, you made me smile. : )
Psst, I think of the Batman reference every single time I see holyneroli’s username.
Oh good. Not just me. Not so much “holyneroli” as “Holy Neroli….Robin!” Cue theme music.
Nana nana nana nana- Perfume!
Love the 60’s Batman!
BANG! KAPOW! ZOWIE!
Yes!
Fleur du Male
Haven’t smelled that one in a while – I remember being utterly horrified by it when it launched! Bet I’d like it better now though.
YUM.
I’m in Azemour les Oranges, which is orange flower and the whole rest of the orange grove – juice, zest, leaves, trees and loamy soil. Loooooove it.
I love that one too. All I have is a small sample of it, must get more. You smell juicy and pretty!
Twins! I keep circling a full bottle of this one — first had a sample, realized I needed more, then bought a decant and that’s almost gone. Sooner or later, I’m just going to have to break down and get the bottle.
One of my top favourites too, u smell wonderful!
Wearing Eau de Sens (Diptyque), the only orange blossom perfume in my collection.
You smell great. Eau de Sens is surprisingly tenacious on my skin.
Lucky you! It disappeared even faster on me than the ultra-cheap Yves Rocher Citrus Flower.
Happy FriYAY! My SOTD is Orange Blossom by Jo Malone. When that dries down, I’ll spray Bond No 9 Eau de NY over the top.
I’m off today and have a nice morning hike planned. But first, a Cuban espresso, Gino’s in my lap purring away ~ he sends his hellos.
=^.^=
I so miss my cats in my lap! Kiss him from me.
Calypso, I just gave Gino a *squish* and a *smooch* for you. He is such a snuggle-bunny.
Hello Gino! I have my little Mila curled up next to me. 🙂 Sounds like you have a nice day ahead of you!
Awww, Mila sounds adorable. Please give her a *squish* for me! 😀
I sure will!
I’m your twin today in the Jo Malone. Felicitations from my cats to yours!
*chirrups* from my boys back to you! 🙂
Hello to Gino!
I had in mind I was going to wear Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic by Guerlain for today’s CSP but I can’t find my bottle, I hope it’s in storage!
Purrs and head butts from my 3 cats!
Jalapeno ~ Hi and hello from Gino and SmokeyToes! Give your kitty cats a *squish* for me!
I went to the new opened HoltOgilvy yesterday night for perfume sniffing, finally we have a Guerlain Boutique in Montreal and so much more….
I am wearing Portrait of a lady body oil, I think I am obsessed with body oils.
Did anyone try Chanel Rose body oil ?
I’ve seen pictures, it looks fabulous! Can’t wait to visit myself. I love body oils, had no idea there was a rose Chanel oil.
They didn’t have it here, maybe you could check in US
The new perfume area is really great !!!
I’m going to the mall today, will try to remember to ask!
The Chanel No. 5 body oil is fabulous and I imagine the rose oil is great too.
This was what I got at Macy’s thinking that it’a No.5 L’Eau body oil.
What do you think, how does it smell?
Well, here I am speaking out of both sides of my mouth (per my comment to lovestosmellgood)…mine is still shrink wrapped. At the store, I did not want to try it on my skin in case it was greasy . What I smelled of what was sprayed smelled like L’Eau and that is why I bought it.
Thank you hajusuuri
What’s HoltOgilvy? We have Holt Renfrew out here in the wilds of the West Coast — are they related? Is HoltOgilvy something wonderful we’ll get 10 years from now in Vancouver? 😉
Holt Renfrew here is closed now, it has merged with Ogilvy’s which was another department store and became HoltOgilvy
Awwwww – I enjoyed visiting Ogilvy any time I was in Montreal. They always had interesting jewellery and accessories. But then again, so did Holts in Toronto. Everything now is high end designer label. Nothing cool or funky anymore… ☹️
Now, I only go for the perfume!
Oh, I bet the rose body oil smells lovely. I’m a huge fan of Chanel and other body oils.
Roger & Gallet makes an oil to match their Fig scent, It’s so heavenly I promptly purchased a backup. It’s that good.
I like the sound of the R&G fig oil. I will try it.
I want to try that oil !!
I tried all three of the Chanel body oils and LOVED them. Pretty pricey, though :-/ They all go on delicate but moisturizing and leave you wonderfully but lightly fragranced.
I don’t think I have any orange blossom scents. I am looking forward to reading about others choices and getting ideas!
I am in Dusita’s Fleur de L again because I enjoyed it so much yesterday.
I bet there will be quite a few in your boat today, yasmina 🙂
It sounds lovely. Going on my list.
I’m wearing And the World is Yours which has both orange blossom and neroli.
Twins! 🙂
You both smell great!
Neroli shower gel by House of Lemongrass, Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir on the left arm, Parfums de Nicolai Cap neroli on the right arm. Wow, I liked Cap Neroli better than Neroli Outrenoir, but today it’s the other way round – I simply love NO.
You smell great, I love Neroli Outrenoir
I love Parfums de Nicolai- you smell wonderful!
Neroli Outrenoir and Cap Neroli are both gorgeous. I would hate to have to choose between the two.
Glad to see there are other fans of Neroli Outrenoir. It took me a while to fall in love with it, and I’m pleased I persevered.
Good morning and Happy FriYAY…..
Been gone a few days to Nashville….my mom was in the hospital for 3 days to start a new drug for her AFib. Very happy that she’s tolerating the drug well and went home yesterday. I’m very happy to be back home too! 🙂
I’m overdosing in neroli and orange blossom: Wearing A Lab on Fire’s And the World is Yours. Only 1/2 a spray, and it’s still too much for the office, my fragrant friends. I’ve already washed my arms and we can all still smell it. I like this scent, but it’s for outdoor use only on my skin! 🙂
Have a great weekend everyone!
Glad your mom is doing okay. You smell fab!
Best wishes for your mom; hope the Perfume Grinch doesn’t get you today!
My husband was totally overwhelmed by that perfume, to the point where I passed it along to another home. It smells gorgeous, however!
I wore it on Monday and the coat I wore that day is still strongly scented- good thing it’s such a good smell.
three cheers for FriYAY!!!
Glad your mom is doing better!
I’m glad your mom is doing better!
Glad your mom is ok! <3
I have not smelled this yet but it seems to get a lot of love here. Glad your mom is doing better!
Well you smell awesome! That is quite a scent 🙂
I hope the new medicine works well for your mom.
It’s good news about your mum.
FriYAY, indeed! I am very glad to hear your mom is doing well.
I’m pleased to hear your mother is better.
Best wishes for continued recovery for your mom.
Glad your mom is recovering well and handling her new meds!
Good news about your mom’s medical situation, for sure!
I REALLY need to try ATWIY. Glad your mother is doing well—my sister’s fiancé has been struggling with AFib for a while.
Glad your mom is doing better. Some of those drugs for a-fib can be really tricky.
Hello all! I love Pearl Bailey. I would love to know what perfume she wore.
Scent twins with Robin in Eau de Neroli Dore. So much neroli it practically shimmers. I had a few to pick from for the poll but I’m still trying to wear each perfume in my collection. This one was the only OB/ neroli I had left, but it’s a good one.
Hey twin! I’d love to know too.
Triplets ! I am wearing the delightful Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore also.
Quads or quints with you all!
Doing the same as Robin in Eau de Neroli Dore (thanks katsura!)
The event at Indigo Perfumery last night was so fun! It was a workshop on “Modern Musks,” in which we sniffed a whole bunch of musky raw materials ranging from civet, castoreum (whoa), and ambrette to newer synthetics. There were only four of us there, including Indigo’s owner, and we were almost entirely anosmic to most of the synthetics. Then we sniffed a range of musk perfumes, including Sylvaine Delacourte’s entire line of musks. Some standouts for me were Narciso Rodriguez Pure Musc, Serge Lutens Clair de Musc, and my favorite of the night: Sylvaine Delacourte’s Florentina. Will definitely be ordering a sample.
That sounds so interesting! Lots of fun and lots to learn.
Civet is so awful and strong to me. I had a chance to smell it along with other skanky animalics at a smell and tell library event.
Was it one of Michelle Kydd’s events?? I used to attend those and miss them a lot since I moved away.
Yes it was! She is so great
Jealous of your event! I know that Tiger Lily boutique in SF also offers workshops sometime – must look ASAP. Sounds like a lot of fun!
There’s a DSH event at Tigerlily today from 5-7 that you should definitely go to if you can! It sounds great (refreshments, Dawn, new scents, and 10 % off all perfumes!). It’s too far away for me to get to in time, but if you go, I’d love to hear about it.
That sounds cool! But like you, I live too far away for spontaneous trips (1.5hours) and have a workshop until 5. Thanks for the heads up!
Oh, and a PSA for folks in my neck of the woods-
Indigo Perfumery is doing a Speed Smelling event on Apr 6 where you can smell all the perfumes in the IFF Speed Smelling kit that Robin posted on Wednesday.
If anyone goes – please report back!
This sounds like it was a lot of fun and educational.
Ooooohing and aaaaaaahing with other folks about that Indigo event! It sounds like something I would have enjoyed very much. I’ve smelled plenty of perfume, but not a lot of raw materials.
Today, the earth has gone around the sun , one more year older
Has anyone smelled the new Goutal, I am thinking of blind buying it for my special day with my birthday coupon. The lipstick note sound right up my alley
I am on my “french cereal” Neroli O
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! (if I read your comment correctly…)
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!! Hope today is epicly awesome!!! 🙂
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday ?
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! Hope your day is great.
Happy birthday! Have a lovely day!
I have not smelled the new Goutal, but IMO you can get away with a blind buy on your birthday. Have a good one!
Enabler
😀
Yay, new year, new perfume!
happy birthday! 😀 😀 😀
Happy Birthday ! Enjoy your special day !
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Ltsg! Hope you get to celebrate!
Happy birthday to you! I hope you have something yummy like champagne or cheesecake (or why not do both??) 🙂
Birthday Twins!! Happy Happy Birthday!
Well, we share a special day
Happy birthday! I hope you have a satisfying day.
Thanks all!!!
Happy birthday lovestosmellgood !!!
Happy Friday Birthday!
Happy Birthday. As someone who buys large samples, I’ll be contrarian and say go sniff if you have time (without the kiddos) given your proximity to locations that carry the line.
Happy birthday to both birthday twins!
Many happy returns.
Happy Birthday!
I think a birthday calls for new perfume AND new lipstick, and any combination of the two. Have a lovely day.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Wishing you a wonderful year ahead.
Happy Birthday! Enjoy using that coupon!
Happy Birthday! I hope your day is wonderful!
Happy happy birthday!
Happy Neroli Scented Birthday, LTSG! ????
Happy Birthday, LTSG!!
Dilettante! The only orange blossom I truly love.
I love Dilettante too, you smell great!
Dilettante might be my HG orange blossom perfume. And I’ve tried a LOT. You smell amazing.
Scent twins! It’s such a sunny, cheerful scent. Just what’s needed for a very gray day here in northern New England.
Triplets. We smell so good!
You smell lovely, Dilettante is a beautiful rich perfume.
I finally had a sniff of Dilettante on paper a few weeks ago, and thought, meh. All the comments today are making me think I really need to try it on skin.
Happy Friday everyone! I’m in the very cheerful Tauer Orange Star, which has oranges and orange blossom in it.
Does that have that Tauerade dna?
I have a 15ml decant of it and yes, it does have the Tauer DNA.
Yes, it has that ambergris base I smell in most of his scents.
Tauer always shines, you smell fabulous! 😀
I’m in St Clair Scents Casablanca after imploring my brother to bring it to me along with other necessities like toothpaste and underwear to the rehab center where I’m staying for more recuperation after emergency hip surgery. The last 10 days have been a nightmare between my mother’s ER visit followed by mine. We’re both in the same facility now and I hope things will start looking up. I’m wearing this perfume even tough it’s strong and a bit skanky as a sign of returning to some semblance of humanity.
I can’t even imagine all that you have been through. You are one tough cookie! Healing wishes to you and your mother.
Oh dear! I am so sorry! I hope you and your mom both make a full recovery
Clean underwear and perfume will definitely make your day better. I hope that you and your mother are both recovering well.
So glad you are at rehab and have all your necessities! (And thank you, Calypso’s brother.)
Do you know how long before you can go home?
Glad to hear you now have some comforts to cheer you up. Healing wishes to you and your mom!
Oh my. What a nightmare. Sending good thoughts your way.
Sending my very best wishes to you and your mom. What ordeals you’ve been through! Hope the day brings you some good news and lots of renewed hope!
Ugh. So sorry for all the woes. But at least you’re close to your mom! Wishing you both speedy recoveries!
I hope the perfume will help you feel like you’re returning to calmer days!
How horrible, get well soon <3
Skank that place out! It has to be an improvement over institutional smells, yes? Hope you mend quickly!
Yikes. Glad you have something lovely to smell and to help get you through. Sending you all good thoughts.
Hoping your mother and yourself will recover well.
I hope things improve as soon as possible.
Hi Calypso. I missed your earlier posts so want to send some good wishes your way. You have been such a stoic and a fantastic caring daughter for your mother and I hope your brother and friends are looking after you, too. Get well
I’m sorry to read that you’ve had such a bad time, I hope you and your mother have speedy recoveries.
Sending positive energies for a speedy recovery for both you and your mom.
Wishing you and your mom a speedy and thorough recuperation, Calypso!
Oy vey! What you have been through lately Calypso would test the patience of a saint! My best wishes for you and your mom’s recoveries. And “Hooray!” for your brother coming in to help out.
Hugs for you and your mom!
Hope you are starting to feel a bit better. I can’t even imagine what you have been through the last while but hope that you are on the other side.
You deserve to stink up the hospital with your perfume. Glad your brother was able to bring you some necessities.
Partial relief. I hope you’re able to recover quickly!
I am seriously lacking in Neroli. I went with Dame Orange Flower. I’m liking it very much. It would make a great shower gel.
A few months back, I bought Insolence for really cheap at Marshalls, I ended up returning it because I noticed the batch code on the box and bottle were different, and it bothered me. Does anyone know why they would be different?
That’s fishy. I always assumed marshall’s would be legit
The packaging was the kind without cellophane, so it could have maybe been switched with another one in the store? Idk.
Maybe? I have to admit that I haven’t really paid attention to the boxes much. I would be wary of buying anything without cellophane, though.
True. I was blinded by a good deal.
Possibly why it ended up at Marshall’s? I think they are overstock, close-outs or second (like maybe a batch mismatch bottle and box codes).
Im not really familiar with how that works. I guess I figured if it was not to standard, Guerlain would destroy it.
TJ Maxx also lets you return perfumes, and I think you have to be very careful when you buy them as a result. I bought a set of three Library of Flowers travel sprays there, and realized when I got it home that the Linden was half gone. That being said, I’m going to Marshall’s to look for some really cheap Insolence! It’s over my blind-buy limit online.
I found it for 18 dollars. Hope you find some, but double check the packaging.
Neroli Outrenoir??
I smelled this lovely scent for the first time, sniffing from a small vial, not sprayed on a card. I literally gasped. It was so beautiful. If you have the opportunity to try it this way, I highly recommend it.
Twins!
You smell exquisite!!
Another fan here!
Yay!
Twinsies! (Spellcheck turned this to Twinkies but I outsmarted it this time.)
Perfume Twinkies sound doubly good ?
When I was last at N-M, they had perfumed fans to waft the scents of the aspirationally-priced Guerlains. They all smelled great, but it was an ordeal getting them to cough up even one sample.
I’m wearing California Reverie and absolutely in love with myself. I smell so great. Longevity isn’t the best, but I don’t care.
Be well, everyone. You all smell fabulous and springy today!
I love that one for the scent and for the name. You smell fantastic!
I love that you are in love with yourself! And CR is one of my summe favs. You smell wonderful!
“Absolutely in love with myself”….ha!! Love it!
I forgot about the orange blossom, but I am wearing a floral: Rose Cardin by Pierre Cardin. I bought it on a whim because FragranceNet had it on deep discount (got it for $13.50 or something like that) and it had positive reviews on Fragrantica. And I don’t regret it! It’s a real deal rose chypre, completely at odds with its very silly neon pink bottle. If you like the idea of rose chypres but find Paloma or Diva are just too much for you, this would be a good one to try. It’s softer.
A decent rose chypre for under $15 is a good thing!
Thanks! I was thinking of posting a request for a good, dirt-cheap rose perfume.
SotD = Berdoues Vanira Moorea
VM has an incredible petitgrain top note. It’s not quite the same as neroli though I do adore it.
Today I’m going to wear the last of my pre-reform sample of Atelier Colognes Grand Neroli. Woulda-coulda-shoulda bought myself a bottle when it was first released, but that scented ship sailed long ago.
Coincidentally, a neighbor cut down a diseased orange tree on Monday, so he gave me three small branches covered in flowers. I put them in water and they are still fresh. A few times a day I sniff the bouquet and rub a green leaf between my fingers. My kitchen is filled with the scent of orange blossoms and greenery. It is heaven on earth.
I have not been here on NST much lately, life offline calls out to me too forcefully, but I think of you every day. I have some awful things on my Friday to-do list, so a stop here is lifting my spirits and filling my heart with strength. Sometimes the only way out is through! onward and upward, carpe diem, fugit amor!
Hope each of you, my fragrant friends, have a fantastic Friday.
Happy Friday to you too! Your orange branch bouquet sounds wonderful- too bad the tree had to go.
If you’re going through hell, keep going! Sooner or later you’ll get to the other side. Bon courage! And thanks for popping in. 🙂
Mmm, Vanira Moorea. An orange blossom bouquet really does sound heavenly. I’m visiting my sister in central California next week – not sure if there are orange trees blooming in her area, but I’ll be on the lookout! When I visited last year, I got a small cup of fresh-squeezed orange juice from a farmer’s market and it was a revelation.
I bet there are! The streets of the Bay Area are fragrant with the blossoms right now.
Nice to see you. I think of you often and have wondered how you are doing. Wishing you the best of everything!
Wishing you fortitude!
Wishing you scented courage on your way through, Tiffany. And many hugs, of course!
Oh the scent of real orange blossoms is just stunning!
Whenever I hit one of those bad patches, I just keep telling myself to keep putting one foot in front of the other, lol. Slog on through!
Thinking of you often, not the least of which is because I owe you an email! Hope the unpleasant parts of today will be gone shortly so your weekend can be relaxing!
Wishing you strength, tiffanie. Good to hear from you! My sister lives near orange groves, and that is such a fabulous scent. Enjoy the blossoms!
Wishing you strength to get through today and that tomorrow is a much better day.
tiffanie, I haven’t been on NST much lately either, so I’m glad you posted today! Wishing you all you need to get through today. Hugs.
Tiffanie, glad to see you posting today! I hope that your offline life gets less onerous very soon.
I hope you made it through your Friday. Hugs!
Glad that the Orange Blossoms are lifting your spirit. When i smelled them ‘in real life’ I was absolutely blown away! I could see why the bees would be so attracted to them. Sometimes nature is just what we need.
I hope you are able to relax and catch your breath this weekend.
TF Neroli Portofino body oil, followed by AG Neroli EDC. I also brought my travel spray of OO Mardi Gras (a much dirtier orange blossom perfume) so I can put some on after work.
Oh you smell YUM.
My sample of Mardi Gras (autocorrect decided to go with “Madrid Agra’s,” for reasons known only to it) has unfortunately dried up. It was fun while it lasted.
Someone mentioned Orange Star earlier but I didn’t think to reach for it today. Instead, I reached for Eau Premiere today. I find no 5 Eau Premiere comforting and I want some comfort. Spent more than I should have with the STC 5ml sale
No 5 EP is an all around fabulous perfume. I adore it!
I stopped looking at STC because in my spring cleaning, I found several unopened STC packages. The discounts sound very compelling.
??
I know, right?
Ruh roh!
And that’s the sad truth…
Hoping EP does its job and comforts you.
Seville a L’Aube for me today. Have really enjoyed reading everyone’s OB/Neroli picks. I was surprised to see that I don’t really have many in my collection, considering how much I love the ones I have. Clearly some sampling is in order.
I don’t have as many as I would like to have either!
Wearing Le Couvent des Minimes Orange Blossom floral water. Found a big bottle of this last summer while clearing out my parents’ place. Although it may have belonged to my sister…not sure. It’s not as lush as Seville à l’Aube…a bit sharper citrus. Very realistic. I’ve topped it with a bit of Sal’A.
Oh nice! Was probably reasonably priced too.
I’m also in Neroli Dore. I did orange blossom the last few days, so I wanted to switch it up. Plus I can steadily work to finish off my decant now that I have a travel spray coming from the swap meet.
We finally made it to Friday! This has felt like a very long week, and I’ll at least have about 4 hours of overtime to show for it. Also looking forward to not waking up to an alarm tomorrow. It’s the little things.
Hello scent twin! You smell like the best parts of summer to me.
VERY long week, and I will be sleeping in tomorrow too 🙂
Opted for Fragonard Fleurs d’Oranger edt which is light and cologne-like. I layered it over some sweet orange blossom scented shea Solidarity Balm from L’Occitane. Nice combo!
That sounds very pretty!
Love that Fragonard, incidently I think it’s their bestseller in France.
Nice!
Lots of early comments today! I got on the road about a half hour later than usual, but to my surprise, there was little traffic. Where is everyone, I wondered, but you all were here commenting!
I was going to wear one of my very numerous neroli/OB scents, but then I got TWO swapmeet packages! (If I’m swapping with you: I haven’t had time to finish making decants, apologies! I hope to get them mailed on Monday!)
So instead I’m wearing the gorgeous Baruti Indigo. It’s even better than I remember. My boyfriend HATES it, so I’ll have to be careful about it.
Hey, catching a break on the morning traffic is something to be savored!
Serge Fleurs d’Oranger! Orange blossom is almost always too soapy/”fresh” on me, but this one is gorgeous. The other florals and touch of spice make it less sunny tampon commercial and more real woman, if that makes sense. I got a decant last August or so and then put it away for the colder months, I forgot how much I liked it.
It’s a good one!
I love that one, I should wear it more often.
It’s so good!
LOL at the sunny tampon commercial comparison.
Seconding!
Oh, I’m sure most of you are familiar with the brand, but I’m using Le Petit Marseillais Orange Blossom Shower Cream right now and really like it. You should be able to find it at grocery or drug stores. It’s a sweet candied orange blossom that suds up nicely.
I am, being half-French 🙂 It’s such a good French budget brand.
Oh, that shower cream sounds nice!
Hadn’t heard of it, and will be looking for it!
Off topic, because my SOTD that’s on topic is not office friendly (on me) and I will wear Seville a l’laube tomorrow for a night out with friends.
In Santal Nabatea, from the swapmeet (thanks!!!), I smell great, it’s Friday, I’m a year older today, it’s going to be sunny…looking good!
Happy Birthday and you smell awesome!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday! You smell great!
Happy birthday!
Many happy returns.
Happy Birthday!
Have a very happy and peaceful year
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Wishing you a sunny year ahead!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes – you are all making my day feel extra special!!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Scented Birthday! ??? Any birthday celebrations with your friends tomorrow?
Yes, we are a group of 5 friends who take the birthday person out during her bday month. I’ll wear Seville for that.
Sounds great! ??
Happy, sunny, great-smelling, Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
More birthday wishes Eschmeling!
Happy Birthday! So many March bebes ?
All those summer nights 😉
Happy birthday !!
SOTD: Guerlain Cruel Gardenia, a big ol’ neroli bomb.
And so named perfectly, ha…
Totally spaced the CP, so my scent today is Tiger’s Nest. My office mate commented on it being different than the flowery things I usually wear. I asked her if it was too strong. (Our office is little, with limited ventilation.) She said, No its fine, just different. So she is not actively bothered by it, but this is the first time she has commented on any perfume I have worn since we moved in together. Interesting. I also am grateful for the listing of OB perfumes. I am limbering up my sample list…
That is interesting…I wonder then if she likes the florals?
Yes, now a little mission I have is to wear a perfume that inspires her to say , “That smells good.” 🙂
SOTD is Perfumer H Orange Leaf: orange, petitgrain, basil, angelica, frankincense, cedar, yum. My notes say “3D version of Hermes Orange Vert with a really nice dry down”. I bought this at Perfumer H’s store in London when I was there on vacation over a year ago; it was a very fun visit. I was the only customer in the (un-air-conditioned) store on that roasting hot afternoon, and my husband was a good sport about hanging out for the hour+ I spent sniffing everything. I enjoy both the scent and the memory.
Wow, Orange Leaf sounds fabulous
I can send you some if you’d like to try it, I’ll never get thru the 100ml bottle I have…. wish a smaller size had been available! She sells all her scents in 100ml screw-top bottles, and includes an empty 10ml travel spray for you to decant into. I’d have been ok with just buying the travel spray! Ping me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of geee-mail.
Fragrances bought on holidays are such memory makers. It sounds so fabulous, enjoy!
Saying hello to the weekend by wearing Prada Infusion de Mandarine.
SOTD = Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir
Smoked tea neroli, orange blossom, oak moss, vanilla, amber. Perfect for winter to spring, spring and fall! I have a La Goutte Parfumee 20 mL travel spray as well as a FB.
In other news, I smelled Portrait of a Lady in the wild, but it was marred by someone’s greasy unwashed hair smell and a fart. This is the curse of commuting.
1) I like that one and that scent is more appropriately feeling for now in terms of a neroli/bitter orange scent..
2) *scream laugh* Ha! Commuting smells are an UGH.
And there are worse!
Oh my! What fun commuting!
???
You’re so right – I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. That said, my alternative is to drive but that would stress me out that you the time I get to work, I’m ready to go home again.
Hahahaha! Thanks for the laugh! I hold my breath as I board the subway in the morning. It usually smells like garlic, high octane fabric softener, and sweet fake-flavoured coffee-based drinks. This women actually pulled a bottle of perfume out last week and sprayed herself twice. You could already smell her before she did so. Glad she didn’t work in my office…?
One of the reasons why Iike colder / cooler weather is that a scarf is standard fare; I loop the scarf over my nose to alleviate the stench.
Maybe that’s why I rarely smell other people’s perfume—I am very much in the habit of avoiding other people’s smells. The last good-smelling person I noticed was wearing Tom Ford Oud Wood.
Eeek this was supposed to be in a separate comment!
I do love Prada Mandarine!
You smell VERY good indeed!
Friday!
1) Brexit? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2) SOTD: Cap Neroli on top of my Floris Orange Blossom shower gel. This is very summery honestly and very fresh. I love it, but it feels a little early to wear.
I’m very impressed with that emoji? Is that what that’s called?
Ha! It’s the ‘shruggie’ and I thought it was perfect for the current foolishness.
BREXIT…I don’t even think it’s outside of our no-politics comment policy to say OMG what a mess…because it’s a just a mess no matter which side you’re on.
Getting ready for a warm LA weekend (finally!) in Coqui Coqui Flor de Naranjo
If I don’t get a warm sunny day SOON I am moving to LA!
How do you like it?
ADORE it! It is warmer and richer than most orange blossom fragrances. The ad copy attributes this difference to Mexican vs European blossoms. The latter are supposedly more bitter. There is less of that strident, stringent citrus note. Hope that is helpful!
Thank you— I’ve been curious about this perfume.
I’m wearing Commodity Nectar today which has orange blossom and vetiver in the base notes.Very nice scent so far.I had a sample laying around that had not been tried so thanks for the inspiration to use it!
I liked this one. It’s very juicy!
The longevity is not the greatest ,but I enjoyed it while it lasted.
I am wearing a quintessential OB scent in SSS Bee’s Bliss. The bees actually hover around me when I wear it during summer. ??
Run away run away!!?
Are you not afraid of bees?
Run Forest, Ruunnn! ?
Don’t make me cry!
Ha! Good one?
SOTD is Elie Saab L’Eau Couture which is a nice springy scent
You smell great! That’s my favorite of the Elie Saab OBs.
Couldn’t wear it to work today but last night I went to sleep in a dab of Rubj, courtesy of the lovely Bronyraur! It screams sexy to me and I’m very glad my fiance doesn’t mind it, but I would never wear this out anywhere in the US. Orange blossom, tuberose, and a metric ton of cumin are apparently my jam.
Out of a totally unrelated curiosity, does anyone have recommendations for green/bitter vanilla frags? I liked Guerlain’s Angelique Noire enough to be tempted by a bottle this winter, but I haven’t actually tried enough vanilla’s to know if there are other perfumes like it.
I think Virgile fits description of green vanilla
I was just coming to suggest Virgile! It’s by Sylvaine Delacourte. Valkyrie might work too.
Rayleighblue, I can send you my samples if you want. I bought travel sprays of both. I’ll email you this weekend re: your swap list.
That would be wonderful, thank you!
Diptyque Eau Duelle is a green, summery vanilla. Rubj sounds really wonderful. If they actually bring it back, I’ll have to make a pilgrimage to the Scent Bar to finally try it.
I’ll try it!
Up for a tiny sample? Bronyraur sent a couple of sample sprayers and I’m happy to share! Email me (see the swap post). 🙂
Gosh, yes! Emailing you now.
Your description of Rubj is spot on! I love it, but I too wouldn’t wear it out if the house 🙂
That’s ok, we can still smell like all kinds of debauchery when it counts! ;D
Atelier Cologne’s Vanille Insensee has a touch of green in it, according to my nose. YMMV.
It does, but the lime in this one throws me for a loop. I’m pretty sure the face I made made my mom think that the dog farted when I first spritzed this. Haven’t tried it in years though and might like it better now?
I have to admit that I was unimpressed the first time I smelled Vanille Insensee. It slowly grew on me. So it’s worth another try!
Wearing Fleur Liquide today. I have a neroli perfume oil around somewhere, but couldn’t find it. Anyway, FL is full of orange blossoms, and I am too floral for words.
I love the idea of “too floral for words”!
Participating in the appropriately named Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger Neroli Blanc.
Me, too!!
It’s a lovely scent.
I’m seeing this late. So nice to have a twin for the day.
We smelled very good imo.
Sad to see Agnes Varda has died. She had such incredible talent and skill and such style. I find myself paying more and more attention to older women …for inspiration, and in admiration…now that I am getting older and she was one of the best. Wearing Lush Sun on this autumn morning.
I am ashamed to say I had never heard of her until Kevin made me watch The Gleaners and I last year.
Such a treasure. Every interview I ever saw with her was so delightful. I’ve only seen a couple of her films, but I hope to change that when Criterion launches their streaming service next month.
I thought about wearing the Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger one today because I like it a lot, but went with SL Fleurs d’Oranger instead because the bottle was handy.
Joining the Seville a l’aube brigade!
I ❤️ it. You smell good!
Nicolai Neroli Intense, from a dabber sample. I might have to decant this into a small sprayer to get the full effect (one spray worth?) so I can really compare to Cap Neroli. I think Cap Neroli is more interesting, but I’m not sure yet which one would be worn more and therefore deserves the bottle purchase. As a side note, I really wish Twisted Lily printed their sample labels on a laser printer. They use an inkjet and the labels are either slightly smeared or totally unreadable once the dabbers are opened! (Maybe it’s just user error, but this keeps happening to me!)
Not just to you – I find that super annoying, too.
Nope, not just you.
I’ve been annoyed by the smeared sample labels from them too.
Good to know about the Twisted Lily labels. That would really bother me too.
Agree
Hi everyone, back from my trip to Europe and my body clock is still catching up – the 13 hour flight from Dubai to Sydney is a challenge!
I have lots to confess to Donatella and a lot of NST to catch up on. Meanwhile, great that one of my purchases is so appropriate for this week’s project – Neroli Outrenoir from Guerlain. I’ll be wearing generous amounts after my shower.
We’re ready for the trip report when you’re ready!
Hooray! Can’t wait to hear about your trip and your confessions!
Yes, we need a trip report!
Very interested in a recap of your trip when you are back in sync with your time zone.
Joining today’s project in Annick Goutal Neroli, hoping that its green notes and touch of cedar (notes I prefer) would soften the other notes, but it’s not working today. I’m not much of a fan of floral fragrances anyway and white florals are my least favorite scent category. Like SheriG, however, I am a big fan of ‘the whole rest of the orange grove – juice, zest, leaves, trees and loamy soil;’ I just wish there were more of these notes in this scent.
Although there’s a possibility of tomorrow’s rain changing to snowflakes, spring – and baseball! – arrived for real this week. Sending positive wishes to all for a great weekend ahead!
I hope you have a nice weekend!
You have a great weekend, too! Hope that rain doesn’t turn to flakes!
Here’s to a good season for your Sox! …You know what I *love* at the beginning of every season (I mean, besides the fact baseball has mercifully returned)? Looking at the box scores from the first day or two. So many batting averages of .500 or more! And then it all goes downhill from there….??
I love that too! Or when I see 2-0 and think we are going to win the season. Lol
OK. baseball fans… I hope that your teams do well this year!
Today’s CP was the perfect occasion to spritz from my dwindling supply of the tragically-discontinued Pacifica Nerola Orange Blossom. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: it’s so realistic bees try to pollinate you when you wear it.
Waft on, you guys, and have a great Friday!
Never had a chance to smell that Pacifica. ??
Lol, that sounds fantastic!
Dilettante for me again today. The only outright orange blossom I have. I’m loving it from what I can sniff. I’ve come down with a spring cold. Boo!
Feel better soon!
Oh no! Hope you can get rid of that cold ASAP!
Feel better KellyC!
Feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon!
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon!
Twins with SheriG in Azemour.
As predicted, the spring birds have now shown up! I saw 2 or 3 robins in the short walk to the mailbox today. ?? ?? Also heard what I think is a mockingbird. I haven’t seen or heard much from the mourning doves this year, though. Wonder where they are?
SOTD = Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore EdC, from the sample stash. I’m twins with Robin today! It’s still a little too cool, weather-wise, for it, I think. But it shines in hot humid summer weather! ??⛱
I’m impressed you know the different bird chirps! When I was a kid, I use to study birds and did quite a few reports on them, but I never learned the sounds. Now I suppose you could google bird sounds, which just now occurred to me, lol. Maybe I will do that.
I know a few birds. Cardinals have a “chip-chip-chip”, while the mourning doves “coo” at each other in the mornings. Blue jays can be rather obnoxious with their noises. And sometimes mockingbirds imitate man made sounds, like cell phones ringing or car alarms going off. But usually a mockingbird has a variety of calls in its song.
That’s hilarious about mockingbirds!
A couple years ago we used to have a little farm next to us; they had peacocks on the property. Before we knew what they were, I could swear they were shrieking monkeys. Oh, they also had roosters, so we were covered day and night!
I totally agree with you that ND shines more in the summer heat. It faded fairly quickly on me today. I can still smell it on my sleeves though.
Neroli Dore’s time will come! Those muggy summer days are perfect for it.
Ooh ooh, I know where all the mourning doves are: they’re here! In my neighborhood! Making nests in my hanging balcony planters and filling the nests with eggs and sitting on the eggs for weeks and then losing the eggs to thieving squirrels and then mourning 🙁
SOTD was Tom Ford “Mandarino di Amalfi”, the only thing I have in the NL that even mentions Neroli among its notes. Although it smells good going on, it dies away pretty quickly – not really acceptable at the price. I’m glad this is just a 5ml decant!
SOTE is Maria Candida Gentile “Elephant and Roses”. Aah, that’s more like it! :^)
Top: thyme, rose & osmanthus;
Mid: rose, jasmine & ambergris;
Base: vetiver & sandalwood.
Wow, the “Elephant and Roses” sounds great! ?? Will add it to the “Sniff This” list.
Agreed about the Tom Ford. The Portofino one in particular is lovely, but I just can’t bring myself to shell out that much even for a decant.
SOTD was 7 Virtues Orange Blossom (the new one they carry at Sephora, not the original), from a sample. I have to say I’m disappointed. It reminds me of the dirt-cheap Citrus Flower edt from Yves Rocher, but with some little note I can’t put my finger on that I find mildly annoying. Unlike the Yves Rocher, which disappears within 20 minutes, this one is sticking around, unfortunately. (Sam of I Scent You a Day calls this the Law of Sod.) It smelled great on paper, though. I think I’ll put on a little Phoenix Botanicals Night Bloom to drown it out. I also think I’ll keep Orange Blossom and Neroli week going for at least a few more days.
I jumped the gun and wore Lorenzo Villoresi Dilmun and Penhaligon’s Anthology Orange Blossom last week, both of which would have been better choices for today. I’ve been trying to decide which might be my next full bottle, and I think the front-runner right now might be Houbigant Orangers en Fleurs, unless maybe I happen across a well-priced bottle of L’Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons. Apparently, in spring a middle-aged woman’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of orange blossom perfumes. The citrus trees in the neighborhood are all blooming, and there is really nothing like them (although I think the Penhaligon’s comes closest). Happy weekend, everyone, and happy Springtime to all the Northern Hemisphere dwellers.
I was in Lancome O de L’Orangerie. Just straight-up orange blossom. It was a bit out of place on a rainy day, but I smelled very fresh.
