It's the first Monday in March, and happy National Grammar Day to you! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in The Beat by Burberry Elixir.
Reminder: on 3/8, we'll celebrate International Women's Day. Wear a fragrance that honors the holiday in whatever way you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: image is from the Burberry Spring 2019 campaign.
Encre Noire by Nathalie Larson. I think I’m gonna just gonna go ahead and make it a week of female perfumers.
That works! Plus you smell great.
My father passed away late last night after being in and out of the ICU for 11 days. Last week, he had shown some improvement, and we were hopeful that he might be discharged and be able to get some speech therapy and physical therapy to regain some sort of normal functioning, but that was not to be. He developed pneumonia again and went back to the ICU. Yesterday, my brother and I met with the palliative care team and decided that he should be taken off life support and given treatment to make him as comfortable as possible. He passed away around midnight.
Sending condolences

Angelique Noire
Hot chocolate with the kids…
Save me a cup.
Today I’m sampling Taj Garden from Dawn Spencer Hurwitz. It is a bright cheerful green that is an excellent antidote to the snow outside and it’s going on the ever increasing full bottle list
See below…lovely to see two DSH choices in a row!
I too am in DSH, cozy Cimabue. Glad to have plenty of women perfumers to choose from this week, and hope that ratio keeps improving
That one really is cozy.
A couple months ago, when my father asked me for a reading list, I realized that almost everything I’d read in 2018 was by a female author. Since giving him a list of books I’d enjoyed, I’ve been looking a bit more consciously at which books I’ve been picking, and the pattern of a preponderance of female authors has continued into 2019. I am surprised and pleased to see that through no intentional effort, the books I have found the most compelling have all been written by women!
sotd = Au Coeur du Désert + Wowilla body oil
I’m on a Tauer binge again. I have my little case of samples sitting on my desk and can’t resist them. Better than a box of bonbons, lol 😀 I’ve enjoyed dabbing PHI and Tuberose Flash over the past few days too.
Have a deliciously scented Monday, my perfume friends. Perfume is our superpower, and the world needs heroes today and everyday!
😎 !
I did have occasion to think “Perfume is my superpower” this past weekend. ?
In Tom Ford F* Fabulous. Sample thunk!
Another crazy week to face. Coffee, coffee and more coffee to see if I can finally wake up. I’d better do!
You might have already said, but what do you think if FF?
I love it! It is mostly almonds and tonka bean. But too pricey to think about it. I wonder if there is another perfume similar to it.
I liked it too, and way, way too expensive. There are a number of scents that are similiar.
You need ninja shopping skillz – as Cazaubon said, I have a black belt.
It’s not too pricey if you have ninja shopping skillz ?
No doubts I need your ninja skills! ?
Sensei! We we follow you!
Na na na na na na hey hey hey goodbye sample!
?
Having a slow Monday so far in Alien. More time to sip my coffee and sniff my wrists.
Anyone tried the new Alien Fusion yet?
You smell great! I haven’t smelled Fusion yet. All I’ve really heard is that it’s lighter than the original.
You smell good!
I love the original Alien (you smell great!), but haven’t tried Fusion yet. Might head out on lunch to try it! 🙂
Report back if you do!
Compagnie de Provence Encens Lavande: not *that* incensey but very lavender, with a smidge of black licorice. I like it a lot.
That sounds really nice!
Puredistance White from a sample. I didn’t pay much attention to it the first time around so thought I’d give it a go since it’s name matched the scenery (though the snow is dirty grey) and I was craving something floral, but it’s verging into dryer sheet musk territory on me and is irritating my sinuses. So I think it’s a no-go.
That one was dryer sheet musk for me too.
Glad it’s not just me, lol, but kind of a relief since it’s a pricey little number.
SOTD is incenso.
Good lord, what a weekend! I’m very happy it’s in my rearwiew mirror!
I love the color scheme in the Burberry ad, and I also love Mondays!
I’m in SSS Equestrian again today. It’s youthful without being childish, and fresh without being clean. Today’s my birthday and I’m trying to remember if I was ever youthful and fresh…? Maybe when I was 5?
Happy Monday all!
Ahhhh!!!!!! Happy happy birthday, Deva! I hope you have a great Monday! For what it’s worth, I also can barely remember being youthful or fresh lol.
Happy Birthday Deva and many more to celebrate! You smell fantastic today! Any present from T-Rex? ????
Have a wonderful birthday, with many kisses from T-Rex, and other good things!
Happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday! I don’t think I was so much youthful, as naive. Still am, sometimes.
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day and your perfume. Be healthy – and most of the rest will be right (or won’t matter) eventually.
Happy Birthday, Deva!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday to you!
Happy Birthday, Deva!
Happy birthday Deva! ???
Hope you have a lovely birthday day and a year that surpasses your wildest dreams and expectations.
Happy Birthday. Enjoy the day!
Many happy returns, Deva.
Deva, hope it is a perfect day!
(Youthful & fresh, yeah, maybe 5.)
Jeez, I hope your birthday’s a whole lot better than your weekend, with no spit.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday, Deva!!!
Hsppy Birthday! Hoping it’s a year of new adventures and beautiful terrains.
Happy birthday! Did T-Rex get you any presents?
Happy Birthday! You smell fabulous!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Deva! I hope you and T-Rex have an epicly awesome day…and year!
Any birthday perfume purchases planned? I have a birthday coming up in a few days, and I do allow myself a purchase! 🙂 I’m thinking a 14ml of Lancome’s Jasmins Marzipane…..
Happy Day Deva!!
Happy birthday, Deva! You smell great. I’m also eager to learn if you’ll be giving yourself any smelly birthday presents.
Happy B-day to you, Deva!
Thanks for all the kind birthday wishes! No perfume purchases because I’m “hoping and wishing and praying” that luckyscent gets in some of Vero’s scents soon. Then a bottle of Onda VdE will be my last perfumes purchase for quite a long time. T-Rex did manage to find me the most perfect crossbody to replace my stolen leather one that I loved. I don’t know where she got it, but she has great taste and a real knack for purse purchases! ?
Now I’m off to donate body fluids for clearance for my next contract. Thanks again for the birthday wishes Nice People! ?
Happy birthday, have a good day.
Super happy birthday to you!
If it makes you feel better, I am surrounded by over fifteen hundred youthful and fresh people every week day and I wouldn’t change my age and withering for a second. The young and fresh are just so… uncooked?
Happy Birthday!
Happy Scented Birthday Deva! ????
Happy birthday!
You are still both youthful and fresh! Happy birthday Deva!
Happy birthday fellow pisces!
Happy birthday ?. Smellin’ great!
Happy Birthday, Deva! ??
Grey Vetiver today to thunk a sample. Not my favorite vetiver but nice enough. Feels too clean for me today. Apparently I don’t like to smell clean on Mondays haha.
Ohhh! Dirty Monday! That’s a great idea for the CP!?
I second this idea! 🙂
Doing female perfumers as well, in fact I might just stick to two houses. Goutal and Nicolaï. Not just female perfumers but perfume houses led by women as well.
Anyhow, SOTD is Quel Amour which I had to dig out of the back of my fridge.
Tea is Meghalaya SFTGFOP (CL) LaKyrsiew, sort of like a Darjeeling with a hint of Assam.
Excellent choices!
Good morning! Wearing amouage imitation woman today, this might be fb worthy. It’s so wonderfully weird. If only it wasn’t so eye wateringly expensive!
Have you checked Fragrancenet? Make sure to have the best coupon ready (search for Amouage Imitation in Fragrantica, mother click on the Fragrancenet ad for it); the best one I’ve seen was 37% the already discounted prices!
Nice! Yeah, I’m waiting for the buy price. That will be crossing the fragrance Rubicon for me, spending over $100 for a bottle 😉
I am so curious about this one! I did try to host a split, but no takers. Please keep testing & sharing your impressions!
I have a little sample of it from lucky scent I’d be happy to send to you, if you want! My email is neko number 1 at g mail 🙂
Super kind offer 🙂 thanks! when is the split meet? Maybe if you still have it then we can find some stuff to swap? But no worries if it re-homed by then.
Well I got Kitten Fur this weekend in the mail and regret to report that it was a scrubber on me. VERY overwhelming vanilla-musk, and it’s now going to become a nice little surprise present for a cat-loving friend. Maybe somewhere along the line this kitten will find a good home!
Awww, that’s too bad. Sounds like I wouldn’t like it either then. Though I’d probably keep it just for the label!
Now I need to find it! Vanilla musk is right up my street.
Thanks for the review. Like Elisa P, I’d probably keep it for the label. Did you get the Grumpy Cat bottle?
Oh drat!
L’Heure Bleue for me today, because it’s my favorite cuddly thing to wear when there’s snow on the ground. Looking forward to my day off tomorrow.
SOTD is Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling because it’s SUNNY (semi-, anyway) for the first day in ages. Tomorrow will bring the return of rain… ah well. I may do a week of NV.
You smell wonderful, BB is a happy fragrance 🙂
It’s a very windy but relatively warm monday so I thought Azemour would be a great choice.
When I was putting on my face this morning (all my skincare I mean), my eye cream fell over on my shelf and took a decant with it. So that’s how my decision was made. The fallen decant was Miller Harris La Pluie, incidentally made by a woman, Lyn Harris. It’s a lovely and serene perfume for Monday. Angela wrote a nice review of it years ago:
https://nstperfume.com/2013/02/18/miller-harris-la-pluie-fragrance-review/
That’s frustrating until you realize a great smelling room will be waiting for you at the end of the day.
Luckily it only fell over on the same shelf it lives on. It didn’t break! I think it was vying for my attention. ?
Ack I see that my “fallen decant” phrase makes it sound more dire than it was. I’ll blame my lack of clarity on Monday brain.
Brrr! Happy Monday! It’s 27F, but sunny!
1) Yeah, I watched Leaving Neverland last night. If you are a MJ stan, or you came of age in the 80s/90s…you may wanna skip this one.
2) After watching, I took a long bath with magnesiums salts and Olverum, which is part of my SOTD, along with UMA’s Bliss Oil.
I was gonna watch it, but it’s such heavy material you need to be in the right mood for, you know? So maybe tonight, I’m bracing myself. A long bath after isn’t a bad idea.
For real, there is no right mood; which is why I took the hit for my circle of college friends we came of age during the 80s/90s and so MJ was part of our childhood/teen years. The stuff that is reveal weighs like a ton on the heart, and you really start thinking about how celebrity is created, and sold, and used- like a weapon.
And also: RIP Luke Perry.
Childhood’s end , indeed.
Luke Perry. 🙁
52 years old!
I watched the first season of Game of Thrones all over again instead of the MJ thing.
And reading Michelle Obama and Bad Blood about Theranos alternately.
Joining in on the camp of a week of female perfumers. This has already proved to be a great idea, as I have found my NEW FAVORITE VANILLA SCENT OMG. I’m in DSH Vanille Botanique from a sample from a very kind NSTer and it is just the most fabulous, boozy, gourmand vanilla EVER. It’s almost vanilla pudding. I just looked up the notes and none of them are liquors; hmm. But the blast of booze right up front was unmistakable.
Speaking of fabulous booze smells, we got a new bottle of gin the other day: Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin. It’s great!!! It’s got this fabulous cucumber note in it, along with some delightful herb garden-lemon notes, plus the usual gorgeous ginny bouquet. It’s pretty sweet, too, which means it’s enjoyable for me to sip neat. My boyfriend had some last night in a cocktail with blackberry and ginger shrub and sparkling water, and it was heavenly. (I’m still on antibiotics, so no more than a few sips for me 🙁 I made myself blackberry ginger shrubby water, but it really needs a splash of gin to round it out.) Anyway, it’s wonderful and also reasonably priced, so check it out. And if you have tried the other two flavors from that company, let me know how those are!
This sounds WONDERFUL!
It IS! (Do you mean the DSH or the gin? Both?)
Both! I love a good indie gin and that vanilla scent sounds RIGHT up my alley!
And I heard that teenagers were getting drunk in Trader Joe’s Vanilla Bourbon extract, but the media is not blaming Trader Joe’s ?
I’m not sure why they WOULD blame Trader Joe’s. Don’t most vanilla extracts contain alcohol? It seems like a determined teenager could get drunk from vanilla extract made by any producer. (That’s a very expensive way to get drunk. With that kind of money, there must be faster ways to do it.)
Well, the media made it a point to state that, probably because there so much blame gaming going on for everything else ?
When I was a teenager in the early 90s The Anarchist Cookbook told one of my friends he could get high by eating nutmeg. He ate a whole jar.
Teenagers are dumb sometimes.
Sometimes? ?
(Did it work?)
When I was a teenager, at one point we thought smoking cinnamon sticks would do the same. Lol
I am not a huge gin fan, but can you tell me how it compares to Hendricks?
It is hugely, enormously different! Hendricks is my go-to gin; it’s fabulous in mixed drinks, a nice balance of flavors that adds the right kind of roundness to any drink. I would never dream of drinking it on its own, though, and would hesitate to even with sparkling water. (I’m not the biggest fan of tonic water.)
Lately, we’ve been drinking Junipero gin, which has some stronger piney (juniper, I guess), foresty, rosemary flavors. It’s great. I don’t need to dress it up much.
But Uncle Val’s is packed FULL of flavor. OMG. If you’re not a gin fan, I don’t know if you’ll like it. It’s almost like an extremely strong cocktail on its own. The Botanical one we got has such a big cucumber and lemon kick to it, in addition to all those Junipero-level forest herby notes.
So what I’m saying is that I love Hendrick’s in mixed drinks, and if I only had to get one gin for the rest of my life, …well, it would likely be Junipero, actually, which is like Hendrick’s+. I would get sick of Uncle Val’s if that’s all I had for the rest of my life, but only because it is so full of flavor. So it’s hard to compare the two!
Thank you so much! As I said, I am not a huge gin fan but I do like Hendricks — we use sparkling water plus tonic syrup plus I usually add some grapefruit bitters.
It does sound like I would NOT like Uncle Val’s, but maybe my husband would love it.
Mmm, grapefruit bitters sound good; that’s a nice idea. I think you might like my grapefruit gin spritzer: gin, sparkling water, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, a touch of simple syrup or honey syrup if the grapefruit is too tart, and muddled thyme, with a nice twist of grapefruit peel and a pretty little thyme garnish on top. If I had grapefruit bitters, I’d add those, too!
If your husband tries the Uncle Val’s, I hope he enjoys it 🙂
Yes, that sounds good! It is similar to what I do with Charbay Pink Grapefruit Vodka. I try to have fresh grapefruit juice ice cubes in the freezer, although at the moment I’m all out.
In Liquides Imaginaires Bloody Wood from a sample. Nice but VERY fleeting. Esp for the price. Santal 33 still much more of a like for me.
SotD was Rahele.
And now I am trying Tuscan Leather. Its more herbal than I expected. Not bad.
My SOTD is Honeysuckle & Davana by Jo Malone. I get so many compliments when I wear this one. Definitely will be a part of my regular rotation.
I sprayed that one once and really liked the way it developed. I should seek out a proper sample.
I had to give in to what feels like a mild flu ( despite vaccination).
Bel Ambre is spicy and rich enough to enjoy through the congestion. Hopefully it has medicinal properties as a bonus.
Oh no! Feel better soon!
Thank you, hajusuuri!
Hope you recover quickly!
Thank you, FM!
Hope you are feeling better soon!
Ugh, that’s a bummer. I hope your flu stays mild and leaves quickly!
I’m wearing Rochas Femme today and I was going to wear it for international women’s day as well, but I think instead I’ll wear Rozy in honor of Vero Kern. Would love to have a bottle of this stuff (or Kiki or Rubj etc etc).
Femme is always a good choice for anything “Femme”!
Vintage Femme is one of my “possibles” for Friday…
Wearing Papillon’s Salome for the second day in row — counts as a celebration of women in several ways? — partly because my partner is out of town. She has a rough time with Salome for reasons you may appreciate, but I am crazy about it and so must binge when I can. Will I be forced to choose between these two compelling women? Let’s hope not.
Salome is so beautiful, but not for everyone.
My husband doesn’t like Salome either! I love it, so I wear it Saturdays when he’s off playing his board games.
Salomé fan here, too! She’s quite a gal! ?
You smell fabulous!
I’m in the not for me camp ?
Hi all, SOTD is Clarins Eau des Jardins – juicy pulpy/green notes of black currant bud, rose, mint, bay leaf, with patchouli, vetiver and white musk. This smells very similar to Diptyque’s L’Ombre Dans L’Eau (to me).
They do such pretty bottles for that one!
DSH/The American Perfumer Colorado today. Fresh snow on the ground and still cold. Winter isn’t over yet! I have been wearing this at a much higher frequency than just about anything else in my collection. If you like woody/piney it’s so good.
I was tempted to wear it today having seen your IG post but decided to go with April Aromatics Irisistible instead.
SOTD = April Aromatics Irisistible
I’m probably going to go with an all women perfumer week or at the very least women-owned and managed perfume houses even if they are not the perfumer.
I used a heavy hand with Irisistible (6 sprays). It is rooty (which I originally typed “footy”) with an aldehylic bite. Aldehydes is not a listed note but I believe the jasmine and tuberose (which I cannot distinguish separately) gave it the lift. Rose is listed but I did not smell it. If you were light-handed, you will be in turnipy carrot territory. More is more and I love it!
I am thankful you escaped “footy” sprays! ?
Ha!
I like your idea of expanding the project to woman-owned scent lines. Then I could include my examples of Grandiflora and Keiko Mecheri.
Yes! So many — Ormond Jayne…
Hey, from what some of the commenters have said here, iris can also be “footy” in addition to “rooty”! ?
I hope i never smell a footy iris!?
That sounds like a fantastic iris! I agree, more is more with some of them.
I gassed myself with 7 sprays of L’Attessa tonight.
Wasn’t aware of the community project but serendipitously chose SSS Rose Volupte this morning. Don’t have much left but I’m enjoying it while I can.
Ha, I serendipitously participated as well, house twin! Every time I wear one of my SSS perfumes, it’s bittersweet. You smell fabulous??
Wearing vintage Mitsouko extrait. Just had a wicked craving for vintage Mitsouko. Was at my local grocery store to pick up lunch meat and saw that after March 14th, they will not sell Amazon gift cards. I think it’s because Amazon bought Whole Foods and they are not liking that bit. I enjoy buying gift cards at actual stores instead of online for some reason.
Oh weird. Do you have CVS? Ours has a huge collection of gift cards.
I do have a CVS nearby.
In Paloma Picasso Mon Parfum today from a mini, I also have a 30ml bottle which will last me years as I wear it only when at home.
Howdy Y’all….
We’re having a cold breezy day here, so I’m trying to stay cozy in Essential Parfums The Musk. Good stuff!
I decided to match my Sotd this week with Women in Rock. First up is Gucci Rush and matching it with Debbie Harry?????
Oh fun! That’s a great match; can’t wait to see the rest!
Nice! Great twist, and like Regina, I’ll be looking forward to your upcoming posts ✌?
What a great idea and what a great match!
Love your idea! And agree, good match ?
Thanks all! I got my list ready to go. Hope it doesn’t disappoint! I like the interrupt CPs, because it gets my brain working on something other than working.
Great match! Love Gucci Rush, I even have a fondness for that funky red box/bottle 🙂
Love your idea! Looking forward to your daily comments.! ?
Fun idea lillyjo! I’m looking forward to seeing what else you come up with. ??
Went with Margiela Untitled L´Eau by Daniela Andrier. I like the green and incense notes with citrus a lot.
Got my eBay package today, and the two perfumes i bought for 1€ each are really vintage. I guess from the early 90ies. One Chanel N5 and one Jil Sander N4! What a deal. Even with the original packaging. And the scent is fine too.
Glad that eBay purchase turned out well — congrats!
Hurray for a couple of successful eBay purchases!
Check: L’ether de Iunx by Olivia Giacobetti. Gentle and pretty, with the happy quality of not aggravating my Monday grumpiness. One could do much worse.
Monday grumpiness twin! I hope that your Tuesday is an improvement over today.
I am joining the club!
I’m wearing FL/18 by Nathalie Benareau for A. N. Other perfume. I smell like a jasmine leather jacket with a tiny bit of sweetness. Swoon.
I sniffed the Jo Malone Wildflowers and Weeds collection yesterday. I really liked the nettle one and my friend really loved the willow/ amber. However, I didn’t like the nettle one enough to even think about it – my no buy is still intact! Woot!
There’s a box of JM Cade/ Amber on my dining room table!!!
( I had a gift card for Sephora)
Frapin Terre de Sarment again – this one is by perfumer Jeanne-Marie Faugier which I wore for the Small F Perfume Houses CP last Friday.
I’m joining BobH and planning a week of female perfumers.
Bulgari Eau The Noir – I need to recover from an opulent weekend of Amouage scents. I think Jubilation 25 was a bit too much for me (or the amount I sprayed on, anyway), and I needed something way different today. This will go on the swap list!
My approach to the theme will be to wear a scent (or scents) each day which remind me of some of my favorite women. Today I wore No 5 L’eau, which was given to me a few years back by my much-beloved older sister. Tonight i’ll wear her signature, Portrait of a Lady. I rarely commit to wearing heavy hitters to work, but she always does. My favorite story is of a student who walked into her office and asked, “Why does it smell like earth and raspberries in here?” Portrait!
Your theme is very sweet. I love L’eau!
Same here! Today it just kept delighting me, too.
Commando today. It’s been a Monday for sure. ?
Hope your Tuesday is better!
Thank you, perfumelover67. I’m hoping that a good night’s sleep will be the just the thing to improve my disposition.
Yikes! I sure hope Tuesday is better for you!
Thanks Deva. It is not a good sign when neither perfume nor chocolate have any appeal at the start of a day. ?
CHOCOLATE doesn’t hold any appear for you today?? Oh how dreadful!
It didn’t at the start of the day. Fortunately, that is no longer the case. ?
Sorry for your stinko day, jalapeno. Wishing you a good night’s sleep and a happy tomorrow ?
Thank you lillyjo. Stress + sleep deprivation is an unpleasant combo, for sure.
Hasn’t it though? Even too much of my favorite ice cream did not cheer me up noticeably.
I’m posting even later than usual today – I’m in Sydney, which is two hours behind New Zealand. I’m leaving for Paris later today, very exciting, and I’ve got quite a list of perfumes to buy. Perfume-free at the moment, I didn’t see much point in bringing anything with me 🙂
That is so exciting. I hope your vacation is wonderful!
I hope you have a wonderful time Gaynor, Paris is great in spring.
have a wonderful trip. and wonderful purchases!!!
Happy scented travels! I hope you have an absolute blast!
Bon voyage and safe travels! ✈
Yay!! Eat something wonderful for us in between the perfume shopping 🙂
Posting late today and like so many others, I’m going with female perfumers this week. Today I’m wearing En Voyage perfumes Zelda while I think of Mardi Gras. Might wear this tomorrow too. I always get the magnolia but everything else is on a wear by wear basis – Zelda morphes back and forth through mint, galbanum, cucumber and everything green I can think of, it’s green and gorgeous.
Love Zelda! You smell fabulous! She’s a morpher for sure. I get a lot of humid waxy floral loveliness when I wear it. A very complex and beautiful perfume.
Nice choice! I am also thinking about wearing Zelda sometime this week. It’s made by a woman and is based around and named for a woman!
I’ve been getting over being sick and have been in a bit of a perfume slump. I think I’ll apply some Amber Cream Oil by Providence Perfume.
I am sorry you have been sick Petunia and hope you get your perfume mojo back soon! I didnt know PPC made creams or oils! Off to google
Nothing like being sick to take the joy out of life. I hope you’re back to your perfume-smelling-healthy-as-a-horse self in no time! ??
Sorry to hear that you haven’t been feeling well. Feel better soon!
Sounds like the sickness has taken alot out of you. I hope your back to health very soon.
I didn’t know there was a National Grammar Day. It’s something I’ve unknowingly celebrated several days a week for over a decade now. Scent of the evening is Jo Malone Red Roses. (Thank you, Barqs!)
