Tuesday scent of the day 2/12

Posted by Robin on 12 February 2019 231 Comments

Tuesday, Darwin Day and Lincoln’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: on vacation, day 5. I am commando again and heading to the beach soon. Tea this morning was a cup of coffee.

Reminder: on 2/15, wear a natural perfume, if you have one. Suggested by chocolatemarzipan8.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Teapottery Double Espresso Green Teapot is $167 at Peter's of Kensington in Australia.

You smell amazing. I wore Ariose on Sunday, and my sweatshirt still smells of it. I thought about wearing it again today but wanted to change it up. I think once I use up my sample, I’ll buy two or three more samples of it at once. I love it so much but can’t fathom spending $200+ on a bottle right now.

In DSH Chinchilla. Pretty animalic. Honey, musk, oakmoss with a hint of gardenia. I don’t get anything else. Very fleeting and low sillage. 2 hours later it was gone. I will keep reapplying during the day. I like it, but don’t love it.

No. It is a rollerball sample, so it will take a little longer to finish it! ?

    That is quite a teapot!

I’m wearing vintage-ish YSL Paris EdT–one of my most romantic perfumes– to match my Valentine’s outfit. Lavender button down, pink pants, hot pink jacket. I’m going to a Valentine’s event tonight and alwaysready to dress for an occasion!

Three cheers for both Darwin and Lincoln! Wearing a scarf I just finished knitting and got a compliment on it at Starbucks. Nice way to start the day. Finished my sample of Apres l’Ondee today. It’s very beautiful, but ultimately not for me.

Fifth consecutive day I’m wearing my respectlessly tweaked Ispahan blend and I’ve gotten two compliments on it!
My sister thought it was a Lutens for chrissakes. At times like these creating perfumes doesn’t seem very hard, even though I know it’s just a lucky fluke.

I am in my vintage Chloe and watching the snow come down.

I helped an older couple in our building a month ago when found out that the husband had fell and broke his hip. I brought them dinner from a Greek Resturant (the woman I believe is Greek) Yesterday she stopped by asked it she could gift me with two hand me downs as gifts. One was her fur coat and another was a beautiful kimono robe. She paused in my doorway and said “ the kimono robe feels so good against your skin if you were it in the nude. “

PSA Clarins I having their F&F online. If anyone uses their products. I think Koyel…

Oh, what a great story, and perhaps an insight into your neighbor’s longevity (and the longevity of her marriage, though of course they may be newlyweds!).

Thanks for the Clarins tip — I will check it out, although I don’t love the recent reformulation of two of my “used daily for years” products (the Extra-firming day and night), and a newer favorite, the anti-pollution cleansing creme, isn’t sold in the US.

For me the product that I love the most is the double serum. I use it on days when its super cold (like today) or just in the evening.
As far as my neighbor, I think there is a stigma that woman of a “certain age” society doesn’t see them having sexual desires or drive. Well, with that comment, she proved me wrong ;)

Wearing Gris Clair to match my mood and the weather; major ice storm overnight to be followed by a snow storm and high wind warning tonight. A big limb broke off the maple tree in the back yard and missed my husband’s truck by inches ? Yes, I do recall griping bitterly because it was so hot last October and I don’t wish for heat now, but sunshine and dry roads would be great. I also remember being a teenager and laughing at old people who were always complaining about the weather ;)

Oh, we have that weather, too, and it would be a great day for Gris Clair. I’m in 31 rue Cambon already, but maybe I will switch it up this afternoon whenI go in to work. OTOH, Gris Clair sometimes has more sillage on me than I am comfortable with at work.

From the Freebiemeet, I am wearing Puredistance Warszawa . . . continuing from last night. It morphs from moment to moment and is beautiful. SOTD = AA Tempted Muse. Really lovely, I am sure, but a bit too white floral for my tastes. So far the AA scents have been generally well put together and with distinct personalities and decent longevity. You do t always get those things in an all natural perfume.

I need to try this. Serge Lutens De Profundis is my all time favorite scent, and this seems to have that similar “chilled funereal” scent? What do you think?

      • Glannys says:
        12 February 2019 at 2:24 pm

Kelly, I can only compare D&D with De Profundis Limited Edition, because I have not tried ‘regular’ De Profundis.

D&D and DP LE both seem to be built around the idea of dying flowers, but I think similarities end here. D&D is slighly warm (especially after you give it some time), dry, with a hint of sweetness and spiciness. “Mummified lily” was what I suddenly thought just now when I tried to find words to describe this scent. No green notes, just petals.

DP LE, on the other hand, is green, wet, bitter and cold. Compared to De Profundis LE, D&D is easier to wear (well, for me) and seems more conventional. I hope it helps.

Is that teapot somehow thumbing it’s nose at coffee or is coffee trying to insinuate itself into tea? Would I buy it if it actually made espressos? What about a real espresso machine decorated with a couple non functioning teapots? How about a microwave that looks like a refrigerator?

I think it’s the patchouli! Via Fragrantica: “The oil has a rich, balsamic and herbaceous flavor with a minty-woody undertone.”

    Hello all and happy Tuesday-

1)Rain, rain rain. I will not complain, because we all the need the rain to fall upon the plain!

    2) Am in Atlantic, by Starnge Invisible Perfumes, and it fits this watery morning. Like all of the SIPs, there is little projection or sillage, but the scent is lovely- green smoky yet fresh vetiver forward scent.

Spent the morning wearing vintage BaV and wondering why Amouage Ubar doesn’t have a matching soap and lotion. Lonestar Memories and Ubar are the top 2 for which one is my next full bottle purchase. I can only choose one. The other part of my refund is going to be used for my mother’s birthday present of Honour woman. Spending the rest of the day in Une Rose Vermeille today.

Another day of working from home (boo), but one of the main benefits is being able to wear as much perfume as I want. Today I chose Providence Perfume Company Samarinda. It has a lot of heft for a natural perfume, and today I’ll try to pay attention to its longevity. It’s hard to pick a favorite from PPC, and I haven’t tried nearly all of them, especially the newer releases, but Samarinda and Vientiane are both high on the list. I love the roasted seashell note (choya nakh).

My Aftelier discovery week continues with Cepes and Tuberose. It goes on smelling like wet dirt, and has settled into a softly floral, musty kind of territory. Not as fungal as the name suggests, but like the kind of place you might see mushrooms growing, like being in the woods and lifting up a damp, rotting log to look underneath.

I probably won’t wear it again, but I’m not repulsed like I was yesterday. It’s more an interesting experiment than something I’d personally wear. So not good luck so far, but I went with the weirder ones first on purpose.

Happy Darwin Day, friends! I’m sick and I’m being a big baby about it. I took a NyQuil last night and stayed in bed until 9:30, then read a book over a cup of tea, and now am about to start working from home with a kitten on my lap. I smell pleasantly of the lovely chocolate orange tea I just finished. It’s the last of my teas from the Christmas market in Toulouse from December 2016 (!!!). It’s ok to keep tea that long, right? Well, it still tastes good, so I say it is.

My very loving boyfriend forgot leave me any noodle soup, so I might have to walk down the street to get a bowl for lunch later today, boohoo. Stay healthy, all!

It’s perfectly fine to keep tea that long. It doesn’t become unsafe in any way, it just might go stale. If you keep it in an airtight container, it will stay fresh longer.

Aroma M Geisha Vanilla Hinoki. The first couple of times I tried this, the opening really reminded me of a citronella candle. Today not so much.
Yet ANOTHER snow day for madtownteen again today. That makes 6 in the last month which I know is a record. I don’t think my two college kids got 6 days total during their public school years. Apparently this is the new normal. If there is snow predicted, school will be called off. This is Wisconsin after all, snow is expected.?

SW Chicago suburbs for all my school years. I don’t even remember a single snow day except during the winter of 1979-80. The plows just couldn’t keep up and the wind didn’t stop for days.

The only reason I remember this is because we had a visitor who was diabetic and didn’t have his insulin with him. We had to call 911, then they had to call the city plows to plow our little hood so the ambulance could get to him.

When we opened the front door, the portico was snowed in up to the roofline and we had to dig our way out to meet the ambulance. That was also the year roofs were collapsing due to the weight of accumulated snow. I remember my dad being on our mansard roof shoveling away while my mom sipped tea and complained about the cold ?

We never had snow days either. I grew up in the northern part of the state where it snows a little bit almost daily. By spring the snow banks along the side of the road would be taller than the roof of the car. On a day like today I would have wanted to go to school. Recess was so much fun with tons of snow and ones bffs to build snow forts with! They just don’t make midwesterners like they used to.?

Yes, I got a decant of Geisha Noire in the freebiemeet and I’m really into it. It smells like resins and charred wood, with a lingering sweetness from tonka. I get ambergris too. Lots of people on Fragrantica compare it to Shalimar (I can’t comment because I’m not very well-acquainted with Shalimar).

I am working from home today. I felt like a sissy this morning because no snow as of 8AM and then it started to come down and it is still snowing fine particles.

    That teapot…I can’t even…

SOTD = Amouage Bel Aiden Attar

I got a decant from a Basenotes splitter and I’m glad I did. I don’t know where he sourced this since they are no longer in production. Rose, saffron, musk and could be cardamom or something else goody spicy (but NOT cumin).

My decant has a reddish label and the juice is auburn red!

Is this a natural fragrance? It’s probably more natural than not. Speaking of which, is Pacifica really all natural? Or do they actually not make that claim?

Pacifica isn’t all-natural, and they’re too inexpensive to be 100% natural. Their perfumes are “blended with essential oils”. I think they are trying to promote the eco-friendly aspect ie: vegan, cruelty free, etc. I think people see that and assume they’re all-natural also.

It is easy to be persuaded. There was a time when I thought I could only wear all natural fragrances but an allergic reaction to the Body Shop all natural not tested on animals strawberry scented oil stopped me cold before I got my perfume mojo back many years later!

Many of the naturals aren’t really completely natural. Pacifica uses fragrances oils along with essential oils in their natural grain alcohol. Aftelier and Hiram Green use fruit isolates which also aren’t essential oils (which would explain why one of the Aftelier body oils smelled screechy and chemically on me because of the usage of pear isolate). I guess it’s all in how you look at it. Probably the most natural would be to just use essential oils.

I agree with you! I am sitting on my hands with the orris butter / carrot oil blend. Knowing me, I would probably buy the ingredients and let them sit and not do anything with them.

      hajusuuri-
This article may shed some light. I think it’s very interesting and also I am certain that many other so called naturals are doing the same thing-

I remember seeing that! It was quite illuminating. He’s not saying that the brand isn’t natural, though. I actually took it as more of a jab at the people who think natural is necessarily better.

Amazingly, no! I used that up! At least, I’m pretty sure I did. I think that was only 5mL. I definitely used up my first 5mL.

This is a subsequent 10 or 15mL. I think it was a different split. But now I’m not sure.

OMG, is this the mark of a true perfumista? Not being able to remember how you got perfumes?

We have another snow day, kids are at home and I am enjoying their company. I’ve decided to make today a day off for myself as well- all the chores can wait! :)
Took a long shower, covered my legs with a mix of Shea Moisture Baby lotion ( the one with frankincense and myrrh) and Elemis Superfood facial oil and sprayed my arm with Apoteke Tepe Pale Fire from a forgotten bag of samples. I am feeling decadent, lazy and happy! :)

It does! Also it is very good at moisturizing- I use it on hands as well. On my second bottle and plan to repurchase it forever :)
Have you tried their lavender and ylang baby lotion? Smells so serene, and it comes from someone who doesn’t even like the smell of anything lavender.

Between my husband and I (believe it or not he also loved it not so much because of the smell but because of it’s moisturizing ability) went through about five pumps of it…then my local supermarket stopped carrying it :(
I should really look for it again at Target or Ulta to see if they have it. I will keep my eyes open for the lavender and ylang too because I am a huge lavender fan!

Ha! My DH also uses Francincense and Myrrh for his hands :) and I don’t mind sharing. I also add 2-3 dropps of argan oil to a pump of a lotion to make it work even better.
Target and Ulta still carry it, but Lavender and Manuka Honey with ylang is harder to find in stores. Also check Walgreens

Commando again for day two of the dog show, but my husband was wearing Rhubarb Eclarte. It’s evening, but I think I’m going to sorry in some Geisha Noire. Goes with the nasty weather.

I so very much want a Miniature Bull Terrier. They were the single most entertaining breed I saw today. Such little comedians! Even the judge was laughing. The other standout was the Black Russian Terrier. So massive! After they were done judging, the winning dog and its friend started playing at the side of the ring while the handlers chatted. The winning dog’s leash actually broke as the handler tried to contain him. Try to imagine a terrier temperament in a creature that’s bigger than a mastiff….

It’s really fun, but it’s also an ordeal. Some breeds are very popular, so it’s hard to get close enough to see the judging. (I wanted to see dobermans, since my nephew has one, but I gave up.) Others, I found seats in a front row by the ring.

We don’t go to the nighttime thing at Madison Square Garden. We watch that on TV. We used to go, but we prefer the breed judging, which is during the day. You can wander and get close to the dogs in the grooming / benching areas. Or when they’re just hanging around waiting to go into the ring.

Posting late today! It was really yucky here weatherwise… mostly a cold driving rain for most of the day. However, Mr. Jalapeno did mention that a bit of sleet was mixed in with the rain during his morning commute. The sleet disappeared shortly after that. ☔

SOTD = Olympic Orchids Ballet Rouges EdP, from the sample stash. Scent-wise, it kind of reminds me of Tauer’s Un Rose Chypree in feel, with both of them featuring dark roses. But there are definite differences between the two. The OO scent doesn’t have the incredible tenacity on my skin that a Tauer does.
