Almost-Friday and Backward Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking partial credit for the cherry pipe tobacco in Diptyque Volutes.
Reminder: on 2/1, we'll celebrate Cherry Month...wear a fragrance with a cherry or cherry blossom note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman Corn Cob Tobacco Pipe is about $11 at Amazon.
Evil Max, 4160 Tuesdays.
Lurking somewhere underneath all the bitter, smoky mossiness is a black cherry note. I still can’t find it.
I should get some of this for my son (his name is Max).
And yet you still get points 🙂
I’m wearing Fleur de Carotte from a new decant. I cannot resist a %0% off deal.
a 50% off deal!
I think I bought my bottle at 50% off, so neither can I 🙂
I’ve never heard of this, but I just looked it up and it sounds delightful 🙂 Seems better suited for spring, though.
Still commando, since I’m headed off to the gym in a bit.
But, I’m burning a Paddywax Louisa May Alcott candle that fits the CP! It’s scented with cherry blossoms and ivy.
I have seen those author candles and been very tempted by a couple. Might just splurge today.
I’ve owned one other in the series – the scents are great and they’re quite strong.
SOTAfternoon: Amber Flush body oil
Robin, that photo brought a small tear to my eye. It looks exactly like the pipe my father smoked. He also loved cherry tobacco.
I am in LPRN black perfecto
Drinking Bois Cheri tea and chubby Buddha is having Ahmed evening tea sans caffeine
I am in a beautiful tweed skirt, trying to find some beauty in this bitter cold ? weather
Stay warm everyone!
Twins! I was lucky enough to find a travel spray of Black Perfecto at FragranceNet and the package arrived yesterday.
You smell fab!
You just sent me down the rabbit hole… I’ve been curious about this one. But reading about this flanker makes me think I want the EdT Florale for the almond. But I am tempted…
Your tweed skirt sounds lovely 🙂
I have been in such a rush lately, that I forgot to comment on the tea you were having very recently. You were having a cup of Russian tea, and it caught my attention because I just bought some from Harney & Sons. This is the first time I am trying Russian tea. It is definitely different from any teas I have had in the past. I am enjoying it.
Yes, it is similar to Lapsong Souchong (spelling maybe off)
I like it because its different, and depending on my mood I have it milk and honey or just straight up.
I reach for this when I have grown tired of the other teas in my collection (and I have a collection!)
Aw!
Another snow day here.❄️ We are currently minus 21. There are reports of power outages and water main breaks in the area. I’m just grateful our old furnace is still running and we are all safe.
I’m layered up and keeping it classy in Box of Eels.
Good grief..stay warm!
I am trying!
Curious as to what temperature your furnace is on? Normally mine stays at 68, but right now I have it at 72 until tomorrow. The governor sent us all texts messages to turn our heat down to 65, but I have an old house with old pipes .. anyway, was just wondering
Brace yourself: during this cold snap we have been keeping the thermostat at 62, which is usually what we turn it down to at night. During the day it is normally set at 65 and it just seemed like the furnace ran non-stop. I have an old house too- 90+ years- which means old windows. Our attic is super insulated though so the upstairs is about 10 degrees warmer, we just hang out upstairs when it’s cold like this. And dress in layers.?
That’s very smart of you. I just turned mine back down. I’m dreading the gas bill.
Same, it’s gonna be bad.
Stay classy! (And please stay warm.)
Thanks Oakland Fresca, I am doing my best!?
Fingers crossed that furnace keeps on going!
Thanks Robin! Me too!?
Oof, stay warm! You smell gorgeous.
Thanks! We’ve warmed up to minus 6 now!?
Prompted by Chris Rusak’s mention yesterday: Mito (and loving that slightly ominous earthy undertone underpinning the joy of all that sparkling bright green)
You smell great!
Mito is a good illustration of my indecisiveness when it comes to perfumes: I thought of buying it for the last 10 months… until it was gone following the sad news.
Thanks! I’m nearing the end of this decant, and hoping the rumours of a re-release of the voiles are true…so we might not be entirely out of luck. And Mito is *such* a pleasure to wear.
Wearing So Pretty today and feeling just that. A surprisingly sophisticated berry rose with a lovely rasp. Sadly no cherry in this one, even though I thought it did. Cherry is hard!
Turns out it really is hard! My apologies.
Cherry is just personally hard. It’s hard not to think of cough syrup. I had to give away my LPRN because of that.
I am apparently in the minority in that I appreciate a good cough syrup note 🙂
I’m always on the lookout for a nice cherry. I wish SL would do one of his bois + cherry, rather than Louvre or RL.
I am grateful for the day off, so I could drive my son to work. SOTD is Hyacinth and a Mechanic. Stay warm, everyone!
Yummm! My favorite Tauer.
It’s Dior Gris (formerly Gris Montaigne) for me today.
You smell insanely chic and beautiful! Oh, I saw that you remembered the spaghetti song!??
Great choice! You smell lovely. I didn’t realize the name had been changed.
Lovely!
Sampling Luctor et Emergo today to stay on the cherry theme
I will be in that or Rahat tomorrow 🙂
It’s also Inspire Your Heart With Art Day and Hot Chocolate Day. I’m continuing my rose theme with Mohur today. No cherries, no chocolate as far as I know, just beautiful. I hope all the NSTers in the Midwest and northeast are staying warm. We’re almost tropical here at 60 F.
60! I am officially jealous.
The 60 degree days in January (while most of the country is frozen) are our compensation for all the 90+ degree days we get from May to October.
I like hearing about your rose choices. I am really inspired to find a rose perfume this year. I tried the Estee Lauder ones and the YSL ones we have in the shops. There is a beautiful rose in the grayeyard where I walk that smells like turkish delight and the scent carries a long way in the heat and mingles with the eucalyptus from the huge trees . It’s a great combination.
Rose is one of my favourite notes, but I’ve never found a perfume quite like a real rose. The rose in the graveyard sounds beautiful.
My mother has a small bush of Etoile de Holland, which has a wonderful scent, and I was so excited when Mona di Orio brought out a perfume named after that rose. Sadly, it doesn’t smell much like rose to me.
What’s your favourite easy to find in Dunedin shops rose? I still haven’t tried Curio Noir’s Porotu Rose . Candy perfume Boy gave it a good review and I feel like I should support NZ perfumers
https://www.curionoir.com/collections/50-ml-extrait-de-parfum
Weather twin here- beautiful sunshine and in the 50’s the past three days! Just gorgeous! But like all good things, it won’t last. They are predicting the dreaded “wintery mix” starting tomorrow…?
60 sounds sooooo good right about now!?
Belated comment: 50_Roses sent me the solid perfumes of “Imogen Rose” and “Breath of God.” The package came on the 31st, and I tried “Imogen Rose” that evening. I liked it. When I first started reading NST, I got several samples of the rose perfumes on the recommended rose perfumes post. I think I liked the relatively more straightforward rosy perfumes (soliflores) more than the Oriental rose or rose chypre sorts. I’ll have to look up what I tried. I know I liked the Perfumer’s Workshop Tea Rose pretty well. I think my favorite remains Yardley of London English Rose.
I called into work again today. Apparently most people did. My boss is letting me use sick pay, so I get paid. So because of the polar vortex, I used up my vacation for the year. Ugh…
Sotd is JM Blackberry and Bay. This is so so similar to YSL In Love Again, which I have always regretted not buying when it first came out. That’s the problem with No Buys??????
How many (or rather few) days is your yearly vacation allowance? It sucks that you had to spend it this way. On the positive side, you smell great!
I’m allowed 37 hours a year. I’ve only worked at this place for a year and a half. Although it seems way longer. My friend is helping me with a resume so hopefully I can find something else this year. The only upside is the schedule flexibility.
So, a week’s vacation? Not enough.
Yeah, not even a forty hour week.
Seriously! So sorry, lilyjo. That’s pretty sucky. I think getting the resume together is a good idea…
Sending all my best, most positive wishes for you to find a better job with LOTS more leave. And hugs. Five days are not enough!
Thanks!
So sorry about your vacation days lillyjo!
Thanks, Robin
I’m glad you could be home again with your kids.? But sorry you had to use a vacation day to do it.☹️
Being off with the kids has been awesome!
one week vacation – that is just tough! I had a job once like this, but I think it still came with 10 days rather than 5….I ended up taking lots of unpaid leave to compensate (but this was before kids etc. – I realize taking unpaid leaven is not a realistic choice for many of us). After 5 years with the company, I got an extra day….
I was at my last job for 29 years, and got 4 weeks and 4 days. Still not enough after all I gave them.
That sucks, having less than a week of vacation time! And probably no sick days, either. Good luck getting your resume whipped into shape! ?
Chanel No 5 L’Eau is my scent of the day, and I am drinking a cup of Earl Grey tea. The sun is shining here for the first time in what seems to be a very long time, and No 5 L’eau just seemed right to wear.
You smell great!
L’ Eau is great for sunny days.
Hurray for sunshine! ???
I’m wearing the lovely amber/ incense of 60 Mirabilis. Stay warm and safe everyone!
Back in OJ Tiare.
Sprayed this on a handkerchief today, which makes it smell a lot more like vintage Diorella.
Lovely.
Sampling Macaron Rose from an STC sale. Was always curious about this one, but now when I am researching it I see that there is a Vera Bradley Macaroon Rose–so maybe that was the one I heard about before. Oh well, I’m in this Urban Outfitters cheap as chips one note wonder. Into the giveaway pile it goes (if you are a fan of Urban Outfitters perfumes, this morning’s surfing the web led me to their website and their sale on 1 oz bottles of perfume for $14. I’m vaguely curious about the Matcha. . .

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jan/31/behrouz-boochani-asylum-seeker-manus-island-detained-wins-victorian-literary-prize-australias-richest
This might interest you.
Boochani’s story is being widely covered in local news here, and is a very hopeful development. The situation with the refugees on Manus and Nauru of course I’ve been following. I am looking forward to reading his book. I haven’t heard much about the actual book–his personal story is so extraordinary.
Speaking of books, I am reading Milkman just now, which won the Man Booker prize last year. So far I am enjoying it enormously!
No credit for me at all today. I’m wearing Cuir de Lancome, which is pretty much perfect.
Tea is a mixture of chestnut oolong, Orchid Noir (MF) and Paris s’éveille. It’s nice and wonderful in colder weather.
You smell gorgeous.
I just love your avatar. Eeyore is my favourite animal in the Pooh stories.
A few years ago I got as a Christmas gift, Winnie the Pooh translated to Scottish which is my family’s background. Eeyore is called “Heehaw” and Piglet is “Wee Grumphie” which is really fun to say with the accent! Here is a link to an explanation of the book’s translation:
http://mikewadejournalist.blogspot.com/2009/03/poohs-wee-bitty-glaikit.html
chestnut oolong? Where from?
Still really cold outside in Cleveland but warmer than yesterday. Spending the day in SDV, needed that burnt vanilla smell to keep me warm at work.
Stay warm and safe!
Not a cherry or cherry blossom in sight today, just Chypre Mousse for the cold.
I’m wearing head to to icelandic wool–a sweater and legwarmers. Not even close to fashionable, but it’s my favorite thing to wear in the cold because it keeps me so warm. Thank you, little Icelandic sheep!
I wish I could wear more wool, because it is so warm, but it makes me crazy itchy.
Me too, I have to wear a baselayer of something else against my skin.
Me three. And I still itch even when wearing a layer in between.
I can wear wool socks, but I itch if I wear wool anywhere else. Weird.
Just want to put in a plug for the Icelandic movie “Rams,” which is a strange, funny, and poignant film about two brothers who are sheep farmers next door to each other, but estranged. Some of the sheep are named in the cast and are really great!
Yes, there’s nothing like wool and down for warmth.
Or alpaca!
Phlur Hepcat which perfectly matches Robin’s visual. It’s -6 and with wind-chill – 20 and the cherry really pops in the cold. I have gotten four compliments from co-workers. This is fantastic in extreme cold.
I need to try that then!
You know where to find me if you need a sample 🙂
Thank you as always!
Chypre Mousse.
Does it smell like the Pacific Northwest coast to you in any way?
Zero credit today with Tauer PHI. I don’t think I like it. It’s taken a 1-mL sample plus 3 mL of a decant for me to decide this. (What?! What’s wrong with me?) It’s just…I’m supposed to like this, so I’ve kept convincing myself that I do, but I really don’t think I do. It’s like asparagus. That’s, like, a pretty chic veggie that is commonly liked, right? But I don’t like it, and I shouldn’t have to!
You may recall that I’ve been pretty stressed out about work for the past few months. Well, I’ve just decided to…work less. For the past week or so, I just leave when I think I’ve had enough for the day. How pressing can this stuff really be? What could be more important than mental health? I’ve worked at most 50 h in the past week, and I feel so much better about life. Eventually, all my work might come crashing down on me, but maybe it won’t. We’ll see! Fingers crossed!
I proved to myself that when I try hard to persuade myself that I like some perfume when I actually don’t, it never works. I can keep thinking that I like it but then I never choose to wear it. So, with some perfumes it seems I like the idea of them but not the experience.
I think your attitude towards work is not only healthier but it’ll also work fine for you if you keep it like that going forward. But It’s hard to maintain for those of us who are either workaholics or habitual worriers. Good luck!
I’m trying really hard to break my workaholic tendencies! (I don’t know if I have any hope of breaking my worrying tendencies. That seems like a harder problem to solve.) Especially in the Bay Area, where workaholism is just part of the culture, it’s so hard to take a step back.
Working a ton of hours just seems to be the way it is. So many people that I know are doing the same and feeling the pressure.
And, you don’t have to like PHI. I have to be in the mood to wear it but I usually enjoy it when I do.
It’s just a leeetle too powdery for me, I think!
I refuse to believe that that’s just the way it is or should be! I think it’s worth fighting work inflation!
If it’s any reassurance, I’ve finally given myself permission to not like Shalimar.
Smart move on cutting back on your hours. The obligation seems to become heavier and more compelling the more one does. From my experience, getting a bit more time back can have a *huge* effect on that perception.
OMG. I hate Shalimar. I first smelled it in a mall and liked the opening, so I sprayed some on myself. (This was in pre-perfumista days.) Half an hour later, when I got home, I could not scrub my skin hard enough to get rid of the STENCH.
And agreed on a little more free time going a long way 🙂
Very wise move to work till you’ve had enough and then go home.
Incidentally I feel the same way about Phi. I bought a bottle when Andy stopped making it because I didn’t know if there would be future batches. I loved it for awhile but now have very mixed feelings about it. Not quite sure why.
Oh no! Well, it does seem very swappable, if you should choose to go that way. It’s hard to resist buying something when you find out it will no longer be made!
Yes, good for you!!!!! On several levels. No one is going to do it for us. It’s up to us to make life better. I’ve recently begun leaving at a more reasonable time as well as not checking email on weekends.
One of my co-workers tells me “there’s always more work. None of this is THAT important.” I know he’s right, but it’s not always easy to put it into practice.
Springpansy! I did not look at my work phone or computer A SINGLE TIME last weekend! I was soooooo proud of myself. That said, every couple hours, I’d have a teeny tiny panic attack and be like, OMG, is there something work-related I should be dealing with?!
I agree with your coworker, and yeah, it’s much easier in theory than in practice. Best wishes to you to stick with a more reasonable work-life balance!
Ha! At first I thought you said Phi smelled like Asparagus! I do like phi but wear it rarely – all Tauer scents can rub me the wrong way easily.
Me too…read too quick!
Hahaha! I see that 🙂 I should’ve been more clear in my writing. But then would I have brought you that nugget of amusement?
I LOVE the Tauers I like (LADDM, Lonesome Rider, and Rose Flash are among my very favorite scents!), and cannot stand the rest (le Maroc and Eau d’Epices have all the right notes, so why do they smell so awful?!). It’s a very polarizing line for me!
It seems it is a line of fragrance that inspires passionate feelings. I adore Lonestar Memories, Phi, Rose Flash, Incense Flash and would love to obtain a bottle of Le Maroc! There is some ISO E super in Phi, which gives it some more lift, I am not going to lie, the first 15 minutes are rough for me. Then it settles down into a rather lovely, masculine rose. I think it smells just like Lush Rose Jam shower gel!
PHI hasn’t worked for me when I have tried it, either. All I got was tobacco. And that is not a favored note for my nose.
Huh. I actually love tobacco. If I could get rose and tobacco, I’d be thrilled!
‘commando at the moment, but since school was cancelled for the cold, I am going to sample. Aftelier Alchemy, JD Jeffrey Dame Duality, and some of the Maison Lancomes.
Please report back on the J D
+1 to that
SOTD is Botan by Aroma M. It’s an odd one, not sure about it which probably means no.
I’ve been curious about that one, but “fleurmand” has kept me from sampling it. I don’t really like gourmands or sweets. To wear. Geisha Pink was also an odd fruity, floral- though not terribly sweet.
Body Shop Japanese Cherry Blossom fragrance mist for this gusty hot Friday. My son returns to school today after his school summer holidays . The holidays began at the end of November ! I still have that slight pang and feel a bit lonely when he starts a new year and this is his last. i will have the house all to myself and I love that.
Also, rabbit rabbit rabbit…can’t believe it’s February already
I love having the house to myself too. Sometimes though, I fear that my love for alone time, I will end up like Burgess Merideth in Twilight Zone. Which, btw I blame that show for alot of my thinking sometimes. The seventies were no place for kids!
Did you watch the “Night Gallery” too? That show scared the hell out of my and my sister! Especially the episode “The Doll”. It ran from ’69 to ’73 on NBC. Shudder!!!
Night Gallery was scary! There was another show, called beyond something…
But mainly twilight zone for me. I can’t watch them now.
Last day/night in Glasgow, heading out for dinner shortly. Didn’t make any fragrance purchases, or earrings either, for that matter! Have been
wearing Muguet Porcelaine since Tue, sample acquired during visit last year. Here in the UK it’s only available at Hermes shops or concessions in upmarket department stores, unlike some other Hermes fragrances which can be picked up in Debenham’s for example. I really like it, husband not so keen when I used it Tue morning for journey down. Didn’t think to check the price when I was in Fraser’s, might do so before I leave tomorrow, though I think it’s in the ‘exclusive’ range given lack of general availability.
Glad you are enjoying your trip.
…not to be an enabler or anything (hahaha) but, if you didn’t want to commit to a big bottle and were maybe thinking of a box of four travel sprays that they do there… I’d be happy to go halfsies or other fractionsies with you. (I’ve been looking for a travel spray of the Myrrh E and I could always find space for another Osmanthus). Just saying 🙂
AND the travel sprays are not more outrageously priced than the full-sized bottles!
(And the Hermessences are probably my very favorite collection. What would your third travel spray be, if Carolyn were to want to go one-quartersies with you?)
There are a handful I *love* but most of them are too pale for me… Cuir d’ange is my favourite from the range, and I think Cedre Sambac is terrific. And OY is my travel scent of choice. What would be your perfect set of four?
Ah! Ambre Narguilé, Vétiver Tonka, Myrrhe Églantine, and Épice Marine are probably my favorites. I already have travel sprays or full bottles of three of those four, though, so I’d get Myrrhe Eglantine, Poivre Samarcande, Iris Ukiyoe, and Vanille Galante, I think. Ah, pretty fantasies. I love almost all of them, except Cuir d’Ange and Agar Ébène 🙂
Apologies, I didn’t see this post of yours until after I got home! I would have considered splitting a sample pack for sure, depending on what else it contained. I definitely grew to love Muguet Porcelaine the more times I wore it, so a definite possibility for the future. I did pop by the Dior counter & ask if the chap you mentioned in our previous chat was still there & the answer was yes, but he was at lunch at the time – thought I’d let you know in any case.
Oh, no worries at all. It was just a thought in case you were tempted by the Muguet and a smaller amount would have made it possible 🙂
And thanks for asking re: Dior.
So yesterday I was a scent twin with Robin who is wearing Volutes today, if that makes any sense.
I wanted something fresh and happy today so I sprayed some Prada Infusion de Mandarine in the morning.
I have 2 options for tomorrow and can’t make up my mind which one to choose. It’s either Atelier Cologne Encens Jinhae or Berdoues Somei Yoshino.
Somei Yoshino! No one every mentions that Berdoues. The bottle is stunning.
I’m failing at the CP so far and chose Timbuktu, still going strong this evening, it is definitely a scent of faraway places.
Hoping this arctic vortex will just be a bad memory by the weekend for everyone affected.
This is a summer scent for me, do you like it in the cold?
I did like it equally on this winter day, Tannina, you’re right I wear it most in summer too, but now I think it’s an all year round scent.
I don’t have anything with cherry or cherry blossom, yet I love cherries (we’ve eaten kilos of them this season) and the sight of a cherry blossom tree against a blue sky is one of my favourite things.
So I’m going for something completely different with Hiris this morning.
So far, have never liked a single cherry blossom fragrance myself.
You smell great today!
Finally on task today in a sample of SL Rahat Lakoum, burning a cherry-vanilla candle called 17 Cherry Tree Lane. Very cute not quite copyright infringement, apparently.
Hey, I grew up on Cherry Tree Lane, and until your comment did not know it was a movie.
Ha! 17 Cherry Tree Lane is where the kids in Mary Poppins live ?
No cherry for me, sorry. But I did just get some Zoologist samples earlier this week so Moth is today’s scent. It’s lovely, the faint hint of smoke appeals to me right now. Camel and Elephant are on the docket for this weekend.
And drinking a homemade matcha latte in my favorite Japanese bowl/cup. A souvenir from Tokyo that makes me happy every day.
Yes Marie, it sparks joy!
Yes, I have a certain coffee mug that sparks joy also. It really is the little things!
Also, please do let us know what you think of Camel and Elephant. I love to read mini-reviews here.
You didn’t ask me, but CAMEL IS AMAZING. It’s a super-dry, spicy bunch of dried fruit–dates, raisins, that sort of thing. It’s got a good dose of smoke and amber and incense in it, too. It’s a leeeetle dirty (I expect that’s the camel coming out), but that’s low-key enough that it is still my absolute favorite recent release!
Yay, thanks. Glad you responded.
Hahaha! Marie was interviewed on the CBC radio show Q the other night and I missed it. Have you seen her tv show?
I wonder if Marie wears perfume? We should try and match her to one…
Oh yes! Great idea!
Still no cherries today. Hmmm I need to dig around.
I left in a rush this morning and hadn’t put anything on. Fortunately, I had a couple of Le Labo samples kicking around in my bag. Lys 41 leapt out when she saw me looking for something to get me through my day and I applied just a dab. It’s really gorgeous, although I don’t think I could wear a full spritz at work.
Love that one!
No cherry for me today… currently sampling J Hannah & Co ‘Long Branch’. Mmm smoky woody goodness. She’s the perfumer who created Canoe Skive, and this scent has a family resemblance (but no leather).
That sounds like another I should try!
Today’s perfume is Indochine 4 sprays. It has a slightly buttery note like the shimmering butter or oil that appears on the surface of broth, that appeals to me in the cold weather. There isn’t a cherry note but the fruity sweet honey and beeswax is a good stand in for it.
Beautiful clear day here in Vermont. On my way out for a walk. Happy Thursday everyone!
Wow, it is warm enough to walk in Vermont?? Hope it was a good one!
It was 14 degrees when I went out this afternoon. I have a warm coat.?
No cherry/CP for me today, but I’m just down the street in plum… showered with Molten Brown Muddled Plum and used the matching body lotion. Sprayed Natori all over, since I’ve gone pretty anosmic to it. And I think I used up the Encens Jinhae sample, so I got nuthin’ for tomorrow either.
Thanks all for the sweet condolences on my cat. Oddly, I won’t share it on FB but will here….
Spent morning dealing with health insurance company. Angry with them for not properly disclosing a change in our policy before I renewed for 2019. Then I managed to tip over a tall lidded cup containing sparkling water onto a bunch of tax documents and down into my favorite red booties. Sigh…
Can’t believe some of the hijinks I see in the Midwest cold. One woman on Twitter went outside with wet hair and bent over so when she straightened up, it was frozen vertically. And people outside with big water pistols…but it’s so cold, snow comes out. It’s not so bad here. Was 6 when I woke up, but has climbed to a balmy 16.
I know a girl who accidentally snapped a tuft of hair off doing that! Those subzero temps are not a joke.
I hadn’t thought if that, but I can imagine that happening…
I saw that hair thing too. There was also video online yesterday of someone throwing boiling water into the air, which immediately freezes….then last night one of the area hospitals reported “1 injured while attempting boiling water trick”.? People.
I couldn’t imagine going out in this weather in wet hair! I was outside during that flash snow we had yesterday, and was pretty sure my forehead got frost bite between the wet snow and the wind.
Sorry about your morning chaos- hope things have smoothed out by now, and your boots are dry!
Ugh for having to deal with health insurance shenanigans!
I thought I was participating by wearing Pirouette Essentials Cherry Blossom Girl (it’s discontinued), but apparently there’s no cherry blossom note. The back of the bottle says “Flirty, joyful notes of neroli, honeysuckle, and mandarin, like the sweet musk of cherry blossoms in spring.” Oh well. Initially it was all about neroli, but now it’s wearing creamier about four hours after application.
I’m so excited about dinner tonight. My friend and I are going to JuneBaby for the first time. It won the 2018 James Beard award for best new restaurant in the country! The chef also won Best Chef Northwest. He’s pretty cute too. I hope he’s there cooking tonight!
Mmmm that sounds exciting! Hope it’s fun.
Thanks!
do report back with a critique on the meal tomorrow – vicarious eating for the rest of us!
2nd that!
Had to google the chef… that smile ?
Oh, I hope that your meal at JuneBaby is everything you expect it to be and more!
I’m off-project too, wearing Casablanca by St. Clair Perfumes. I feared it might be too potent to wear to class but it’s quieted down and mostly seems to be a skin scent by now. Lovely and cheerful on this gray day.
JHAG Moscow Mule today, smells a bit like apple vodka with wood. Thank God it only was a sample and thunked it too. Did not impress me at all.
Jicky EdP for the evening, so much better
Yum, Jicky!
Working in my bathrobe that smells of yesterdays’ Oud Palao.
Big thunderstorms here in Los Angeles.
PSA – no affiliation LuckyScent has 15% off selection, here’s looking at you, Rien!
This is as close to cherry as I have – Baiser Vole Lys Rose. I mean, it smells pink, like cherries might? Fits our balmy temps here, too.
And now I am in Colorado…wow! This is potent! Starts off smoky but there is an underlying sweetness to it…dries down to what smells to me like immortelle absolute….this is really really good stuff! Thank you 50_Roses 🙂
At first I thought that you had spent the day traveling and were actually IN Colorado. Lol.?
Oh how I wish!!!!!! although it might be as cold there as it is where I am! Or maybe even colder!
Thanks for the mini review. That immortelle note is a deal breaker for me most of the time.
That’s what I am smelling but my nose is known to be wonky so don’t rule it out just yet 🙂 (unless of course you want to! Kill a lemming!)
I am in Una Tira l’Altra (Hilde Soliani) today and it’s pretty much just cherries with maybe a booze note.
I just saw a little bird on the second slat of my deck railing (under the top part of the railing.) He was all fluffed out, trying to stay warm. The polar vortex is starting to leave my area and they keep telling us that it will be above freezing over the week-end. Hope they are right!
Oh, forgot that one existed! Is it good?
Late to the party! Wearing St. Clair Casablanca from a sample, thanks to a generous Nster. The more I wear it the more I fall in love with it! Stay warm everyone!
smelling good pl67! You already know how much I adore that one!
Thank you! It is a fantastic perfume for sure!
Somewhere spring is out there, chanting I think I can, I think I can.. ?????
Let’s be positive my friend! Just one month and half! ?????. Almost there!
Scent twin! I’ve already caved in and ordered a FB, albeit a small sized one.
Hi twin! Enjoy your new bottle! It is a beautiful addition to your collection!
Sotd Good Girl gone bad by Killian
My nose is somewhat stuffed, but it’s nice – I see some people find it similar to Roger & Gallet Osmanthus, ill have to try them side by side when my nose clears.
It’s cold
The R&G is a real bargain then!
I’m in Madrid for a couple of days. There is a really nice perfume store here called Le Secret du Marais (no affiliation). And the SA (though I wore my tourist garb of comfortable jeans and sneakers) let me be to browse and sniff. I didn’t buy anything, I’m on a no-buy remember? But treated myself to a lovely symphony concert by the Oslo Philharmonic. Brahms’ Piano Concerto no 1. PS I did like LADDM though. Sigh of relief!
Nice that you are on a mini vacation!
Enjoy ?
I think you deserve a vacation more than I do. I was just going a little crazy with my son’s school stress and work hadn’t been great for a while too. So I found a really cheap airticket (not exactly tourist season!, but the paintings haven’t left the Prado) and I stay in a cheap pension. My husband is coping at home!
DON’T FORGET THAT TOMORROW IS
RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT
?????
I’m ready!?
Hopefully I will remember it this time! I forgot it for January 1.
I pulled out my super warm, not kidding it’s cold alpaca wool socks for today. Also roasted some Brussels sprouts for dinner. I’d say I’m doing a pretty good job of staying warm. All 3 cats have plastered themselves on the heat vents for most of the day.
SOTD = Boyfriend again. I’m getting a bit of a “vanilla birthday cake” vibe from it that I have never noticed before. I’m getting a little restless and wanting to wear other scents now.
I need me some of those socks! Instead, I had on 2 pair today ? And you have been granted permission to wear a different perfume ?
I was lucky enough to grab 3 or 4 pair of them when I first saw them. I haven’t seen SmartWool make those kind of socks for a while now. ?? My ski socks are still stashed away, though…
What perfume is next?
My bottle of CK Euphoria has been trying to get my attention for the past couple of days. Or maybe I will go back to testing untried samples.
I love this image of the three cats plastered on the heating vent 🙂
I didn’t bother to wear perfume today since I had on many, many layers. I did use my Toke body cream from my recently-arrived Rad Soap Co sampler. It’s nice and it lingers pretty well-sandalwood and vanilla. My hands still smelled after washing them. Looking forward to trying the soap samples- one of them smells like gardenia and spearmint!
The lip balm OTOH smells super weird and a little nauseating. Kind of like motor oil! Does lanolin smell weird?
I think it does smell weird.
It does, right? The actual scent is supposed to be a citrusy mango, but that gasoline smell! I haven’t used anything with lanolin in eons.
I can’t say that I remember what lanolin smells like, but I do know that I can’t use it in lotions. Makes me break out in itchy little bumps.
I’ve heard of people being allergic to it. I’m kind of surprised they use it at all. They seem like they would be a vegan brand.
I wore Alien edt for work, which I prefer because it’s only a little strange instead of intensely strange. Diptyque Fleur de Peau tonight, though, which feels perfect post-shower, snuggled in against the cold.
I’ve smelled alot of Alien versions, but I don’t think the edt. Is it that much different?
It’s like the edp but more relaxed. Some orange blossom takes the place of some of the jasmine. I could see why people who love the original would find it weak, but I prefer it because it doesn’t beat me (or my colleagues or students) over the head.
Chiming in with my SOTE with Guerlain LPRN from my mini. I may pass this one off to my niece to add to her collection.
And in other news, my order from Tauer arrived today (the re-ship). I was beginning to think that this one was going to meet the same fate as the original order. This made my week!
So glad you got your order!
Thank you! Me too.. I will have to let him know as he was so kind to re-ship.
