Happy Hump Day and happy Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution! (And if you're in the path of the polar vortex, do take care.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm doing chocolate cherry lip gloss, in Lolita Lempicka Sweet.
Reminder: on 2/1, we'll celebrate Cherry Month...wear a fragrance with a cherry or cherry blossom note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

No cherries in my collection, sadly.
SOTD is OJ Tiare. I smell AMAZING y’all!
Thinking warm thoughts for all you northerners out there! Stay safe!
There are so many of you with no cherry perfumes, I am sorry! I had no idea it was so rare.
It’s still cool to see all the cherry perfumes that aren’t on my radar!
It’s funny, because I think of myself as someone who likes ‘fruity’ frags, but it’s not true. I just like citrusy frags.
Mito by Vero Profumo — not just scent of the day, but it’s been the scent of the week. Obsessed with it presently. A sepia-toned wonderland. The only tuberose note I run toward. Depth of a sweetness that is almost fermented/malted. And now it feels a touch memento mori, too. (But no cherries.)
What a lovely description, Chris.
Thank you, Holly! 🙂 It evokes a lot of joy when I smell it.
I’ll join you! I only have a dabber sample of the edp but I’ll seize the day and wear it now!
I’m wearing Tocca Colette.
I think of Colette as very appropriate for winter, you smell great.
Colette is one of my favorites. It’s super cozy. You smell wonderful.
You smell lovely!
No cherries here either. I used to have a bottle of the Occitane cherry bodylotion. I’m on the other end of the olfactory spectrum in Lonestar Memories, eminently suitable for work 😉
You smell great 🙂 I just dug up a trial size bottle of L’occitan cherry blossom body was yesterday, I’ll wear it Friday if my PotL doesn’t surface.
I am still contemplatingmy SOTPV (scent of the polar vortex). I will likely end up in A City On Fire by Imaginary Authors.
Excellent choice. I heard on the radio this morning that somewhere or other they’re laying down kerosene-soaked ropes and setting them on fire to thaw rails (not sure if it was railroad rails or commuter-rail rails), so cities are apparently (in part) on fire.
That’s wild
I believe in Chicago.
🙂
Wow! That’s crazy!
That happens in Philadelphia, too. (The rail switches on fire.) Not very often, thankfully.
LAdDM for me today. It’s been getting alot of love here lately.
Excellent! You smell like heaven. 😀
Wow! ?
We are house twins today.
Hey there house Twin!
Twins!
You smell lovely!
It’s been a while for me – I am going to go dig up my decant of LADDM right now and dab some on.
must dig out my decant
SotD = Infusion d’Iris edt
I’ve missed this lovely scent, one of my greatest perfume loves of recent years. The bottle called to me this morning, I could not resist.
Infusion d’Iris smells like I feel after a warm shower on a cold evening, I’m wrapped in my favorite softest bath robe, and Yo Yo Ma is playing a Bach cello suite just for me.
Enjoy your Wednesday, NSTers! Be well, warm, safe, and beautifully fragranced. 😀 😀 😀
What a lovely picture you describe 🙂
I agree!
I love your description! I have a beloved bottle of the edt, purchased when it first came out. I probably need to finish it.
That description brought me a much needed moment of calm during my lunch break! Thank you. You’ve chosen my sotn too!
So, I got an alert on my phone this morning that read, “Your morning briefing is ready: It will be colder in the Midwest today than in Antarctic.” Gee, thanks.? Nothing like starting the day on a positive note. I did plan ahead for this though and I have a pork butt in the crockpot. No intentions on even stepping a foot outside today. My daughter is home for the third consecutive snow day, which means longer into June. Sigh.
I’m in the last of my Arbole Arbole sample. Thunk.
Polar Vortex, Thunk twins!
Polar Vortex and Thunk Triplets…my youngest stole my decant of 31 Rue Cambon…there is only about 1/4 left so I am sure he will finish it up soon. I could smell it on him when he left for school-LOL!
That really sort of charms me. He has good taste.
???
I passed the Chanel counter today so I decided to give the edp of 31 rue cambon a try… It was less ‘sparkly’ and less green. It felt kinda flat, if that makes sense.
I been sniffing a lot today so my nose couldve been worn down, and back home i washed my arm and i did not get to the complete dry down. But still I dare say I prefer the edt!
Good to know 🙂
thanks for testing for us!
i definitely smell green in the EDT.
That’s exactly how I felt about the edp. Glad I have the edt!
We have warmed up to -9 now.? How bout you?
Glad you don’t have to go out today! I heard mail delivery in Madison was cancelled today because it’s so cold. Yeesh.
Yes! I don’t recall that ever happening before in the 13 years that we’ve lived here.
One would never guess by just looking outside. It’s clear, with blue skies and sun today.
I just heard that snow days get tacked on to the school year at the end, which I suppose makes sense – but it makes summer planning a little trickier. Or do parents just take their kids out of school regardless?
It’s hard here because they have exams at the end. Most school districts build in a certain number of snow days, so you only go farther into June if you use more that.
When my son was younger, we always assumed school might end up to a week later than planned.
Our district builds in 2-3 snow days every year. Last year we didn’t use any, and now this year we will go over, so one never knows. Some years they’ve added minutes to each day and others they add actual days on in June. I’m sure I’ll find out soon how the time will be made up.
we go over every year (we have four days built in) and then they take days away from the Easter /spring break…I don’t care because we don’t go on vacations but for some folks it does impact upon their vacation plans. You would think the district would just plan for 5-6 days.
The weather is crazy!
I know! By weekend we are supposed to be in the mid 40’s, which is a 70 degree difference!
I’m in Italian Leather today. On an unrelated note, at this time of year I get to watch the dawn as I put on makeup, and this morning the sky is crystal clear, the crescent moon was right above the trees outside my window, and there was a thin jet trail angling just below the moon. The sky went from off-black, to that luminous dark blue, to now a pearly sky-blue. And the jet stream has widened out and turned pink. Gorgeous.
What a beautiful description of your sunrise.
I want to try Memo’s leather collection. I’ve tried some if their other scents and liked a few, besides Lalibela.
Thanks for the beautiful word picture of the sunrise!
What a beautiful dawn, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful sunrise.
Beautiful sunrise!
Thank you for sharing your impressions!
That was a lovely and evocative description of your sunrise. Thank you for sharing!
Robin, I’m not complaining but curios– the “recent reviews” list on NST doesn’t seem to have the more recent reviews. is there a place I can click to re-read those?
PS – I do read the reviews when they post, but when I am stressed at work, this is my comfort place. And I re-read and re-read them.
That box never showed ALL the most recent reviews, only reviews of more popular scents. But we are doing fewer of those, I should think about getting rid of the box altogether. At the very least I should get some newer stuff in there, so thanks for the reminder.
And there really isn’t any way to see ONLY reviews, but you will find them all if you browse through the “perfume talk” topic. It’s probably 80% reviews, plus a few other things:
https://nstperfume.com/topic/perfume-talk/
Ah! I get it! Thanks!
Wearing PdN Patchouli Intense to welcome the polar vortex in a couple of hours ?. Repeating to myself many times that spring is around the corner……………
Stay safe! Sping is on its way, it’s just stuck in the snow! ?????
Thank you Lillyjo! You really made me laugh out loud! No doubts Spring is stuck in the snow very deep. I hope it starts melting soon! ?????
How is Patchouli Intense? It’s one of the few PdNs I haven’t tried, and I while I like trying all their stuff, about half doesn’t work for me, and half is great. Is it more a cologne type, masculine leaning scent?
Patchouli Intense is not working for me either. It smells like a men’s cologne. I get lots of lavender and not much patchouli. Quite soapy with a creamy vanilla in the drydown. It has an astringent vibe. I am glad the sample is gone.
Another thunk ?????
And still a long way to go with those samples, but I am enjoying many new perfumes to me.
Don’t get discouraged! Keep going one thunk at a time 🙂
And it has great sillage and longevity.
thanks for reporting back! I don’t think I need to sample this one….I didn’t love New York Intense either.
Hope you’re able to stay at least moderately warm!
I am thankful I do not have to work outside at any of the sites this week, like many of my coworkers. That definitely keeps me moderately warm!
that IS a blessing!
It is! I still have to work until very late and wait long at the subway station, (which is not underground) for the train to arrive. But as Hajusuuri says, First world problems…
Bundle up and wear layers!!!!
I am debating about going to a work cocktail reception tonight. I know I have enough layers but these things end up being a time suck. First world problems…
Go and enjoy like your other colleagues. As long as you are bundle up you should be ok. Not the end of the world for sure! ?
I ended up not going but there will be another time in a few months.
Smart decision! It is very bad outside.
So today, you had another thunk and were inside! Not bad at all! ?
?
No cherries for me today. I’m wearing my rapidly dwindling decant of VC&A Bois d’Iris. But PSA: i’ve Bought a bottle for a great price and am planning to host a split at our upcoming splitmeet.
I’d like some chocolate cherry lip gloss! Is there a decent quality one that anyone can recommend?
Hurraw make a fabulous dark Cherry lipbalm that has a slight tint. Vegan etc. it doesn’t have chocolate though
Yes I second your recommendation. The girls love that one.
I have that one, too, and love it. Just enough color to offset beige plate face.
I’m giggling, here.
It’s called Black Cherry
They do a chocolate lip balm too
And it’s good too! Maybe springpansy can combine the two.
Thx and love the idea of combining.
Go ahead and put me down for that split!!
On my list!
Ooh, I will keep my eyes out for that one! I really like the “other” Bois d’ Iris and have been wanting to try the VC&A
Great!
It’s soooo good! I need to try the “other” one haha!
Sotd Moonlight Patchouli, Thunk!
Our schools will be closed the rest of the week. I’m still debating if I will go to work tonight, because they are jerks and won’t close. The mall is closed but I’m a stand alone store. There is so much snow. I don’t want to go, but will feel like a wimp if I don’t.
You are not a wimp if you don’t go. If you don’t have to go then don’t. Keep safe and stay warm.
If you don’t really need you, you don’t have too! Stay safe for you and your kids!
You want to see a weather wimp look at me: the coldest temp I’ve ever experienced was about 25 degrees, just once, and that was only for the time it took me to get from the car to indoors. Reading about all the wintry travails here just makes me shiver. So far this winter I haven’t even turned on my heater.
The funny thing is, I’m in awe of how your area lives with the earthquakes and wild fires. Or the Flooding like Texas gets. I guess we are all pretty tough?
Stay home. Does your store sell essential items that people need to buy today ( medicine e.g ) …or does it sell stuff that can easily be put off buying for a couple of days.? Just stay home. Shopping can wait.
No essentials at all. It’s crazy how much people love to buy crap.
I vote don’t go.
I vote don’t go. Don’t put your life at risk. Whoever is shopping tonight ought to get flogged and raked over the coals just like the owners of your company that they decided to remain open.
Thanks for this. They will pay more to keep the lights on then they will make.
Ok, I stayed home?
Good for you. Right decision.
Another win to NST!
? good call lillyjo! Everything from the malls to the mail is shutdown here. Whoever made the decision for your store to remain open is foolish.
Thanks. Unfortunately, this makes me out of vacation days, so tomorrow I pretty much have to go.
Glad you stayed home; it’s not worth it to make the trek. But boo-hiss to have to use a vacation day!
Hopefully tomorrow will be better for you, weather-wise.
On a note unrelated to the scent of the day, does anyone know if Zegna’s Haitian Vetiver is no more? I attempted to order a new bottle this morning, and it seems to be discontinued.
I don’t know, but it’s still for sale on the Italian site.
Spending the morning in Epic. Last night, I counted how many blankets I have on my bed in preparation for the polar vortex. I counted 4 and found a light blanket to put on my dog. Jake sleeps on my bed and my room is either really cold or really hot and I didn’t want him to get cold. My post shower choices are vintage BaV, Shalimar or Une Rose Chypree. I wish I could just decide.
Well, you can’t go wrong with those. (I think I’d go with Bal, but that’s me.)
I am going to disagree and say Shalimar! 😛
My university is closed today and tomorrow because of the extreme cold (current windchill is -37F), which means I get the day off! I am fully enjoying this adult snow day, sitting at home in my comfy clothes with the radiators cranked all the way up.
SOTD: House of Matriarch Orca
Glad you are off!
Enjoy your day at home in the warmth!
Enjoy your adult snow day! Do you actually have radiators with hot water in them? That’s the best heat.
I do. They are LOUD, but effective.
Good to hear that you were warm, safe and sound today! Those wind chills are utterly nuts!!
I’m wearing Costes. Do they still make this stuff? It’s so nice.
Just occurred to me, why is February Cherry Month? Surely they’re not in season yet?
I got a sample of Costes with a Beautyhabit order last month, so it’s still around!
Good to know!
Probably from the George Washington chopping down a cherry tree legend and his birthday is in Feb so, voila!, February is Cherry Month
Ohhh
Maybe they had a New Zealander on the selection panel?
I used to have the original Costes, in the big red splash bottle, but gave it away to a co-worker who absolutely adored it. I remember it being very enjoyable, sorta like the old L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer, if I am remembering correctly.
Yes it smells a lot like Passage d’Enfer! very clean light soapy incense.
Might have been a clever lobbyist behind Cherry Month.
??
Those cupcakes looks amazing ! And, I love your SOTD, Robin. I wish that LL Sweet worked on me, but it doesn’t.
I am wearing Caron Aimez Moi and drinking a hot cup of black tea.
You smell lovely.
You smell better than I do, Barqs! (Although in all truth I’ve long since moved on from this morning’s Sweet)
Brrrr, everyone! Hope you are all able to keep warm.
I’m in ELDO’s Fat Electrician today, and really enjoying that vetiver waftiness.
I’m staying with my elderly mother during the polar vortex while my husband contends with our drafty little house, hopefully able to keep the pipes from freezing, etc. I’ve turned mom’s thermostat down to 72 to keep the furnace from running nonstop and I confess, I’m smothering in here ? altho it’s -19F outside.
Sotd is a sample I found, Soivohle A Rose for Beacon Free. Anyone familiar with it? It’s a nice spicy rose.
When I’d visit my elderly parents in January, they’d have the heat going at 75 (in Northern California). It was so difficult, especially when trying to sleep. I finally told myself to think of it as summer, without the air conditioning on. For some reason that helped mentally….
Wait–75 is like summer WITHOUT air conditioning? I keep the thermostat at 76 in the summer, and that is with the A/C cycling on and off all day long. Without A/C it would be at least 90.
Once when we visited my in-laws in Colorado in February, I almost roasted in their house. It felt like it was about 80 in the guest room and I hadn’t brought anything short sleeved as the temps were low 50s in the day and 20s at night. I mentioned that it was hot but my MIL claimed she couldn’t do anything about it. We actually slept with the window open at night and the ceiling fan on high trying to cool the room down a bit.
My mom’s 91 and I know how cold she gets but I keep having thoughts of sleeping in the car in the (very cold) garage 🙂
I would have been fine with 72, but it was much warmer than that.
I have tried A Rose for Beacon Free! Part of my testing notes for it say “A wet rose in the cold spring rain, with a hint of wood smoke drifting through the air.”
Ooh that’s spot on! This is a sample I received in a bag of samples from a lovely Makeupalley friend, I’d never heard of it.
Sampling the edp version of La Petite Robe Noire. Was pretty surprised that I have so many samples that I can do a different cherry perfume every day this week.
I can do a different cherry every day too, but we might be the only ones!
Reading the comments, I am now grateful that is not colder here. It’s 4 degrees, with a wind chill of -11. I’m wearing *all* the layers, one of which is L’Heure Bleue. I smell great. Stay warm everyone.
You smell lovely. Hope you’re able to stay warm.
Hi friends, I looked for my sample of Black Perfecto today and couldn’t find it 🙁 That suggests with 98 % probability that I finished the sample last year, and have nooooo cherries in my collection. I LOVE the cherry note in Black Perfecto and it’s on my to-buy list, and I’m a little bummed I didn’t snag a bottle of it before my no-buy started.
So instead I’m wearing Bal d’Afrique from a decant very kindly sent to me by an NSTer, and I smell great. Speaking of vetiver: last night on Jeopardy!, a contestant said she liked to make her own perfumes using essential oils! Alex Trebek asked her what her favorite note was, and she said vetiver (yay!). Alex had never heard of vetiver, which boggled my mind. I guess we’re in our own little perfume bubble.
My father has some interviews lined up with Johns Hopkins and the NIH for targeted immunotherapy treatments that might serve as an alternative or complement to chemotherapy! In theory, this would dramatically reduce side effects. Any tips on what to think about as he tries to decide which course of treatment to follow? (Assuming he’s accepted into both trials.)
I’ve heard positive things about immunotherapy. If it’s an option to compliment chemo that’s good news.
Yes! That’s what we are hoping for 🙂
A close friend has experienced remarkable results while participating in a trial involving Opdivo for esophageal cancer. Expected to survive six months from diagnosis, she’s about to start her fourth year. Significant changes in lifestyle choices are no doubt also involved.
That’s wonderful; I’m so happy to hear that 🙂
The 50mL is super cute. The next time you travel, get there to Duty Free. The no buy only pertains to the ones that Donatella counts and she does not count vacation perfumes!
Oh hajusuuri, I went to eBay to troll through the options, and omg! You can get this darling 1 oz bottle for $33! Ahghghghg. Affordable beauty. This may be the most tempted I’ve been to break my no-buy.
Surely your cat could give it to you for Valentine’s Day? It is perfumath free!
Haha. I just showed this thread to my boyfriend who said, “What? Perfume bought on vacation is a souvenir and ‘doesn’t count’?? That’s stupid.” I also suggested the cats might get me perfume for Valentine’s Day, and he said we’d just have to wait and see. Since he did not take notes on the name of the perfume, I guess the kittens will not be getting me any perfume after all 🙁 🙁 🙁 (I knoooooow, it’s perfumath freeeeeee!)
if he has a tumor, which reacts to immunotherapy, then he should go for it. Quality of life is much better than with chemo and the results can be just as good. Chemo can always be given as a second-line therapy
Oh he’ll definitely do the immunotherapy if he can get in. We were just wondering which of the two potential programs would be better!
…and I thought Alex Trebek knew everything! Hmmph.
Best of luck to your dad and your family with the treatments. It is a long journey but I’m glad immunotherapy is an option. Chemo is rough.
I thought he knew everything, too!!!
Thanks, Lucy. I’m glad, too! I hope it works out!
Each case is different, of course, but my MIL has been doing combo chemotherapy and immunotherapy for lung cancer for several years. At her age (89) the goal isn’t a cure, it’s to keep the tumor size in check, and keep it from spreading. When the tumor grows too much, she does chemo to knock the size back down (about once a year), and in between it’s immunotherapy. The immunotherapy has very few side effects, much easier to tolerate. So far so good.
Wow, good for her; I’m glad it’s been working so far! And good to hear she’s experiencing few side effects.
Hoping the interviews show some promise for your father!
Thanks, Elisa P!
I laughed during that contestant interview on Jeopardy last night. Mr. Jalapeno just gave me a look that clearly said “And you know what vetiver is, right?”
I’ve heard interesting things about immunotherapy as a cancer treatment. Good luck to your dad in qualifying for the studies!
Hahaha 🙂 It’s nice to see that so many NSTers were watching with me!
And thanks!
It’s so lucky that they live near Hopkins and the NIH! I hope he is accepted into the trials.
Thanks, sistine! It really is!
I thought the same thing – how does he not know what Vetiver is? And Alex’s wife also loves essential oils? Makes me think we are all just projecting this vast knowledge base on him. And in final jeopardy I wish that contestant would have gone for the gusto.
I got a 15ml of Black perfecto in Paris last year. Sigh. I wish I were planning a trip to Paris now. I’ll have to ? it out for Friday
I hope the interviews go well and your Dad qualifies for the best treatment path ?
Hahaha I think it’s awesome that his wife loves EOs!!! I agree with your assessment of the contestant.
They had 15 mL of Black Perfecto?? How darling! (You’ll smell great this Friday.) I also wish I were planning another trip to Paris. I did just plan a trip to Boston for my ten-year college reunion; almost as exciting, right?
Thanks for your kind wishes <3
Just got out of jury service ..
In Lili Bermuda frangipani
Woo hoo! Congratulations.
Thanks! They wanted people to serve for 6 months! No thank you!
Wow. Hard to imagine anyone other than retirees who could do that.
6 months!? Yikes. Glad you got out of it.
Jury duty is a real pain. Got called up twice and got out of it twice. Simply said that I don’t drive and wouldn’t have a consistent ride. Fun times when you live in a rural area.
Glad you got out of it. I have never been called myself, which is surprising because I am always registered to vote. Isn’t that how they draw names? Or am I wrong?
Maybe you just jinxed yourself ?
Ahhh I hope not!
It can’t just be registered voters, because I was called for jury duty once and I’m not a citizen of the USA. (Obviously, it was very easy for me to get out of it!).
?
Greetings from relatively mild Portland!
Am in Aromatics Elixir, big sprays of it that I walked through. Such a change from the super close to skin scents I have been trying these past few weeks.
You know, I’ve smelled it in the bottle but still have yet to rock any AE!
Not on theme in 34 St. Germain. It reminds me – in a good way – of all the perfume samples in magainzes I smelled when I have in my teens – that perfume-y cardboard note. Mind you, I’m getting over a cold and my sense of smell is seriously blunted!
This is also a shout-out to the freebiemeet and just the general generosity of so many, many people here: a lot of the scents I’ve come to really enjoy over the past year and half have been serendipitous (had to look that spelling up!) discoveries by way of samples that were tucked in with swaps or splits or in freebiemeet packages. Thank you, all!
I think I know exactly what you mean about 34 St. Germain! It’s got that classic perfumey, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink vibe.
It’s nice though, no?
Agreed!
I always smell cardboard when I test perfumes on store blotters. I am sure the blotter interfers with the experience and yet some critics etc. seem able to circumnavigate that and still write reviews based on blotter tests. I don’t really understand how. I need the perfume on my skin.
I don’t necessarily smell cardboard on blotters, but I fully agree with you that a review should be done on skin if one intends to wear the perfume on skin.
I like fresh cherries, i like cherry jam, i like ‘Limburgse vlaai’ with cherries.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlaai
But I am not fond of cherry in beverages, or in my perfume.
I will look in my sample sea for perfume with a cherry note, but I doubt I will be able to participate in the cp this week.
Sotd = Nankun kodo (sultan pasha attars)
……and after a 6-month-no-buy-period, I splurged on a bottle of Rahele. * Happy dance * I am really happy with it!
For the Dutch NST’ers:
Skins has some Aedes dV full bottles and Frederic Malle travel sprays for sale (50% off, darn that is a good deal for those brands…no affiliation by the way). Sale items ship to Netherlands only.
I was very tempted. In the end i decided to not order anything and save my money for a real love/want.
Ooh, congrats! Rahele is lovely!
Joining in the congrats!
Its not the most outspoken of most famous perfume of the brand, but it is the one that touched me the most. The cardemom, the osmanthus, the oakmoss…. swoon.
Out of all the NVs I tried, I liked Rahele best, and if I were to invest in any, that would be it. I also thought it was the most versatile (I’m so boringly practical, lol).
I stocked up on some Malles and bought Œillet Bengale there. Wasn’t aware that they didn’t ship abroad for sale items.
Nice! Those brands hardly get a discount like that.
Yeah the œillet bengale travel spray set stayed on my mind when I closed my browser tabs last night haha.
But I tried it a long time ago in a store, and i only remember liking it but not much about the details (eh it was spicy haha 😉
Want me to send you some?
Yess please! (you still have my address?)
Thank you so much!!!!!!
No, I’ve just checked but I can’t find it. If you’ve still got mine, just drop me a message with your address.
I sent you an email! 🙂
Got it!
I was somewhat indifferent, uncertain about Oeillet Bengals, but my husband really wanted me to get it (using a gift certificate). It has since become a strong favorite.
You are not making it easier to get this out of my mind haha. Glad to hear it turned into a favourite! 🙂
Congrats on your Rahele. It’s so lovely.
Congrats on your new bottle! Rahele is one of my top five for summer.
I’m with you on the cherry front – love the fresh fruit, love the baked fruit, but any sort of synthetic cherry flavor or aroma makes my nose crinkle.
MDCI Cio Cio San for the cherry blossom. Sometimes I like this one, and sometimes it’s too screechy for me. Not sure what the magic factor is, but it’s nice today muffled under layers.
Ugh, I totally forgot about Cio Cio San. I didn’t remember that it had a cherry blossom note. It’s not my favorite either. Still, I may save it for Friday or maybe I won’t. ?
Very suspenseful, lol ?
I think I like it better in the cold. Last time I wore it, it was warm out and it smelled kind of ammonia-harsh. Didn’t do that today, thankfully. It’s not exciting, but there’s something uplifting about it to me.
Hiram Green Arbole Arbole – a winter perfection!
Twins! We smell great!
I am so ready for this!! Lost cherry it is ?
Still haven’t sniffed it. I need to find somewhere to try it. I assume Sephora has it, but not sure.
I love it!! The name doesn’t bother me as I was not familiar with the saying. To me Lost Cherry is the same as a lost apple, or car keys ?
We lost a cherry under the couch the other day…it rolled under when we were eating. I think our floor must slope because it was miles away from where we expected to find it
This reminds me of that song ?On top of spaghetti? where the meatball falls off the spaghetti when somebody sneezed. Does anyone remember that?
Oh yes!
Lillyjo, you’ll probably never see this, but YES, I remember. It’s sung to the tune of On Top of Old Smoky, and the first few lines are:
On top of spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
I lost my poor meatball
When somebody sneezed.
It rolled off the table
And onto the floor …
And I’m afraid that’s all I can remember at the moment. 🙂
Hmmm I might get some sour cherry juice for bedtime. I don’t have a cherry perfume.
Today it’s LDDM!!
One of my textile pieces is a big red tablecloth with appliqué embroidery of pieces of cherry pie on plates in the corners framing an embroidered ak15 assault rifle in the middle the words embroidered top and bottom: how many dead/ how many sold. The title of the piece is cherry picker. Please no comments on the gun issues because it’s against the policy for nst, I just wanted to share about my cherry themed art today.
All I fixed on was cherry pie. So, so yummy. My favorite pie when I was a kid.
Love love love cherry pie! Wish I could have a slice today!
I vaguely remember pilsbury used to make a cherry turnover?
You’re making me remember those individual Hostess (?) cherry pies. So wonderful, but so much lard…
I did a sharp left turn just before reaching the lddm mothership and did 4 sprays of Indochine instead. It smells a lot like cherries!
Indochine is a fabulous alternative!
You smell great.
No cherry scents so I am continuing with Rose Week in DSH American Beauty. I do have some trial sizes of lOccitane cherry blossom body products, So that may be a possibility if I have body lotion.
Do you have any mainstream / mall / big brand rose perfumes you could recommend? I am always looking for a rose perfume. I don’t have any and it’s one perfume type I seldom risk blind buying.
A nick Goutal makes some rose scents. I’m not sure what is in production right now or if you consider AG to be mainstream, but it is a brand available in department stores in some malls. Jo Malone likewise is one of the more widely distributed niche brands and has a couple of rose scents. You might try JM Red Roses or AG Rose Absolue or AG Rose Splendide. For mainstream you might try YSL Paris or Ester Lauder Beautiful. I would definitely sniff first. I can’t recommend that anyone buy blind. I find that I am rather picky about rose scents.
Thanks. Will report back.
If no one minds, I’m butting in here to give a shout out to Philosophy Ballet Rose. It’s a pretty pink rose without a lot of other notes and the lasting power is impressive. And it’s cheap!
Stella is also nice
American Beauty is my all time favorite rose soliflore. I think Dawn has a gift with rose.
I have a sample of Lost Cherry I’m saving for Friday, but otherwise, no cherries! In fact, there’s a total lack of non-citrus fruits in my collection, samples included. That would be fine except for the fact that I am craving fruit scents now, perhaps by power of suggestion?
Santal Carmin today. It’s ok. It feels like it’s trying to be Tam Dao edp but failing at being interesting.
Lost Cherry was really interesting. I loved the scent, but I wasn’t sure it’s how I wanted to smell.
I agree! I’m impressed, but it dries down pretty sweet on me.
I love Santal Carmin. I have trouble with heavy sandalwood, it’s the perfect amount for me.
I don’t have any cherry, except for a possible sample of Encens Jinhae kicking around somewhere… I’ll look for it for Friday.
Today is the need for cozy beauty, so some spritzes of Orchidée Vanille will do.
We said goodbye to our kitty Penny yesterday. We’d had an appointment for Monday but balked at the last minute. Just didn’t seem time and didn’t feel right. So, we delayed 24 hours. And it was time. I held her in my arms.
I hope you don’t mind a brief remembrance… We got her in November 2001. We had needed a weekend away from NYC, so we went up to the Finger Lakes. We did a day excursion to Niagara Falls and stopped in a rest stop on the way back to our B&B. I noticed an orange kitty crouched on the lawn as we went in. When I came out, I knelt and called to her. She trotted over and let me pick her right up. I put her in my husband’s arms in the car and we called the # on her collar (a Denver #). Left a message. Waited. No call, so we drove back to the B&B (with a brief WalMart stop) and got permission to bring her in. She spent the night curled in the bathroom sink. We drove her back with us the next morning and she’s been with us ever since, including a move to CA and then back to NYC. Just so grateful we had her as long as we did. The most fearless and friendliest cat one could ever have.
So sorry about your kitty. May the love stay as you remember her.
My heart goes out to you. Your remembrance brought tears to my eyes. I know the pain of loving a beloved kitty as well as other pets. You were lucky to have her and she was lucky to have you. Hugs.
I am so sorry LizzieB. Your remembrance touched my heart deeply. May your memories of her bring you comfort.
I’m so sorry you had to let your sweet kitty go. Big hugs to you, LizzieB.
Thank you for the reminiscence.
you were meant to find each other . You gave her a great life.
Thank you for sharing this, LizzieB. Big hug to you.
So sorry about the loss of your fearless, friendly kitty.
So sorry LizzieB. You did right by Penny kitty even though it was a sad decision.
Such a good long time to have her. Glad you could give her a loving life
That’s quite a story of how you met her. I love it, sometimes destiny just steps in, doesn’t it? I’m so sorry you had to tell her goodbye.
So sorry. We had to put our most beloved cat Cole to sleep a couple of weeks ago. He was the happiest cat I’ve ever known, I so miss the joy he brought to our lives. It is a merciful act, but heartbreaking.
I’m sorry…good memories I’m sure. Happy cats are fun.
I’m sorry pixel. Hugs.
I bet Cole was magnificent. So sorry he’s not with you anymore.
I’m so sorry. Thank you for sharing such a dear memory.
So hard to let a pet go, you did your very best for her, hugs.
I am so sorry
She was a lucky cat having you
What a lovely story! I grew up with an orange cat called Emil who we had to smuggle across the East German border…but your Penny sounds a lot friendlier and cuddlier than our cat was.
Well that sounds like a story… Penny would have been hard to smuggle. She was a talker. And very much a talker when in a carrier. She really cut loose on the plane to CA when we took off. It was pretty funny.
I’m so sorry about Penny, LizzieB. It sounds like you were very lucky to have found each other.
What a lovely remembrance. I’m so sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry! Thank you for the lovely story.
I’m so sorry you had to say goodbye to Penny. Seems she lived a long and happy life.
So sorry for your loss. Many of us know this kind of pain. I loved your story though, thank you for giving her such a loving home!
What a beautiful story ❤ So sorry, LizzieB. You gave her a wonderful, long life! Hugs
What a beautiful story about how you and Penny found each other! Sending gentle journey vibes to her over the rainbow bridge and comforting hugs to you.
Thanks for sharing how you saved Penny, she sounds like a wonderful cat. It’s the hardest thing to lose a pet you love but at least you know you gave her a great life. ❤️
So sorry that you had to say goodbye to your beloved Penny kitty. It sounds like you were the perfect people for her. Hugs. ?
I’m so sorry you lost your kitty. I’m so glad you went on vacation,, and that she found you when she needed you.
I’m so sorry you had to say goodbye to your beloved kitty. It’s the hardest thing in the world to do; sending you hugs at this difficult time.
She sounds like she had quite a personality!
Your darling (lucky!) Penny! So sorry you had to part with her.
In Diptyque Kimonathe for me today. Just sampling. I like it and will happily use my sample, but will be okay when it runs out.
Warm thoughts for all of you dealing with the sub-zero temps. Hugs.
The weather is nuts.. the last time this happened was in the ‘80s I read
It snowed on Easter in 1982
I’m in Felanilla today, and loving it. Finally finished packing last night for the flight to CA today. I am seriously high maintenance, y’all. I like all the comforts of home, evidently, and I have 37 pounds of suitcase to prove it. Gah!
There’s still some room in that suitcase to bring some goodies back. Have a good trip!
Oh, I plan to shop! I didn’t use the zipper spacer release thingy on my suitcase so I’d had some room.
You should have seen the bag I took to the spa this weekend. Like barely any clothes since I’d mainly be wearing a robe and swimsuit, but everything else I could ever possibly need from my bathroom lol.
That’s where a lot of my stuff came from, too!
Congratulations on your wedding!?
35 pounds of perfume and a change of underwear?
Ha! That’s the return flight.
🙂 I just spit out my tea. Thank you.
That’s me for a 5-day trip plus a heavy Longchamps tote and a large purse. Enjoy your vacation!
Thanks, ma’am!
We’re big packers too. Funny: when we went to Italy for a month, hubs and I each packed one big rolling duffle, 45 pounds apiece. When we checked in at SFO, the agent was amazed that that was all we were taking for a month. Everywhere we went in Italy, the locals were amazed that we had SO MUCH STUFF for a month. Different standards apparently…
I need packing lessons from you.
Enjoy!
Thanks, ltsg!
Ha! Enjoy your trip and report back!
Will do. ?
Hope you have a great trip and looking forward to hearing about your adventures! I don’t think of myself as particularly high maintenance, until I have to pack. And 90% is skin/hair products, lol.
Happy to hear you are going on vacation. Have a wonderful time!
Safe travels! And 37 pounds is light compared to how a couple of people I knew used to travel. They were always having to repack suitcases due to “too much stuff”! Like 50+ pounds!!!
Have a fabulous trip!
I’m a heavy packer too so I can sympathize. We tried to cut down the suitcase size but that was unsuccessful. I’m envious of people who can take a carry-on only for a flight.
Have a great trip!
It seems bad manners to say that yesterday I went to the beach and played in the waves with the dogs to cool off. It’s not exceptionally hot here but hot for us…most people who live here seem to favour colder weather and complain a bit ( me included) when it gets above 25C. Last night I couldn’t sleep so dragged a mattress outside and slept under the stars. So beautiful and should sleep outside more often.
We have cherries in our fruit bowl and I am in a Rahat Loukhoum perfume vortex. It’s a bit much for today, need to crank the volume down. Might switch to Monsieur Li after brekkie.
I’m happy you are enjoying a summer day?
Bad bad manners!
Your day sounds so awful! I would hate to be you! ?
I shouldn’t mention sand down the back of my pants, ice creams melting down the side of the cone, 9pm sunsets, the neighbour’s jasmine in full flower, drinking wine sitting out on the deck….yeah, won’t mention that
Just enjoy 🙂 part of the pleasure of having four distinct seasons is knowing that however cold it is now, summer will be back.
but what was the water temperature? Icy cold, right??
It’s about 15C. The sharks don’t seem to mind!
But sea temperatures in general around NZ have been the hottest on record , about 6C above average and it’s having a massive negative impact on marine life down here
Sounds lovely! Enjoy your summer, I prefer temps below 25 as well. We had far too many days over 30 in Montreal last year.
I’m not going to begrudge anyone having nice weather right now. It’s kind of reassuring to hear that, in a way. Means that the nasty weather CAN’T last forever (even if it seems like it is).
SOTD = Aftelier Alchemy
Animalic spicy floral goodness. Has anyone tried it besides 50_Roses? What do you think?
Gotta run back to work.
I am afraid to try it because NONE of the Afteliers agree on my skin…which is just as well given the hefty pricetag 🙂
Money saved then!
I LOVE Aftelier Alchemy.
Heh, I know you do. So far we both have 2 bottles each!
I’m in Malle Portrait of a Lady, a perfume I’d remembered as a bit fruity, and so it is, but no cherries. It’s got raspberries and black currants. So I’m doing a kind of spin on the cherry project. Don’t like this one much, but I’m off to get a haircut soon and she’ll apply all kinds of soaps and conditioners and balms and so on and it’ll bury the perfume smells.
Do you like the smell of the hair stuff your stylist uses?
Sampling day… testing Solinotes Mure at the moment. This one will be nice for summer.
I’ve posted a couple more things on the freebiemeet. Mini reviews:
Solinotes Grenade: sweet (citrus/blackberry), tart (pomegranate), white musk.
Solinotes Tiare: SUPER SWEET coconut, white florals, musk; caramel dry-down.
Oh, and I hope everyone stays warm!!
Thanks for those mini reviews…If I am remembering correctly those Solinotes are extraordinarily cheap right? and also, they can be layered? Or am I thinking of another brand? Too many for my middle aged brain that can’t remember a darn thing!
OOps and I realize now that that came out all wrong because i didn’t read that you are offering them up! I did not mean to say that they are “cheap” freebies what I meant to say was that they are highly affordable given today’s prices for perfumes which is why I was eyeballing them a while back and happy to see a company selling niche at a nice price. I thought you were wearing them today , hence your mini review, which I DO appreciate….sorry!!!!
Yes they are very inexpensive ($20 or so) and surprisingly good for what they are. And they do recommend layering them. And I am wearing Solinotes Mure today 🙂
🙂
Sample thunk Masque Milano Russian Tea. No need for more. ??
Yay to thunking and even better to NOT needing more 🙂
Hey there! I wore that the other day. I like it, but think the name doesn’t fit.
I have a sample of that too and agree no more is needed.
Every THUNK is a good THUNK!
Delicious looking cupcakes, and Robin, I just realize I’ve never tried LL Sweet.
In Noir de Noir which is working much better than last time, lucky as I had invested in decant, so it’s not a mistake afterall.
Good to hear that your Noir de Noir decant turned out to work for you after all! Some perfumes are rather touchy about the weather.
Thank you Jalapeno, yes it may it was too hot when I first tried it and it annoyed me, but all smooth and lovely this time.
I do not think it is a “must try” for anybody.
Many thanks, good to know Robin, one less to try.
It’s colder where most of you are than it is up here in Alaska…bundle up, lovelies! I will consider myself lucky (even if the polar bears are not), hovering around 30F.
Thunking a sample today, Neela Vermeire Creations’ Bombay Bling. An interesting green mango, I like it enough to squeeze every last drop from it, but I’m more ? than ? on it.
As soon as I see 32 degrees, I’m kissing the ground. I feel like this is a very bumpy flight!
Switched over to cherry blossom rather than cherry today with Olympic Orchids Sakura. Probably my favorite cherry blossom perfume. Full disclosure I used to work for them but don’t any longer and wouldn’t wear the perfume if I didn’t really like it. I’ve got one other cb perfume lined up for tomorrow.
I also realized today that I have two more perfumes with cherry or cherry blossom perfumes than I originally thought of – Sweet Anthem Petra, which has an amazing cherry chapstick note that I love and Sweet Anthem Lolita that has a cherry blossom note. I wish I’d bought Petra in liquid form before Meredith sold three business a few years ago. I only have it in the solid.
That must have been so much fun working for Ellen! Is Sakura a straight up cherry blossom? Only OO I ever had and wore was Olympic Amber which I thought was fantastic..thunked that bottle.
I realized that there are two cherries floating around in my house…Escada’s Cherries in the Air and Plur Hepcat (which pairs cherry with tobacco and has a boozy vibe so it could work in tomorrow’s bitter cold) but I am still not sure I am in the mood to wear one or both.
I also had a decant of Seattle Chocolate but that got thunked via confiscation!
It was fun working for Ellen. We’re still friends. ?
Sakura has an airy mineral feel as well as earthy notes (soil) and cherry blossom with musk.
Sounds interesting!
I have nothing against cherry fragrances but out of the hundreds of perfumes I own, I cannot think of one that has a cherry note in it.
Today, I am wearing Neela Vermeire’s Mohur.
House twins ?
Some sprays of Wazamba, so at least i smell of fruit (apples, no cherries). Now testing a small decant of Type Writer. This is not a typewriter, its a complete printing shop with oily machinery. A scent for your favorite car mechanic ….
You smell fabulous! Part of the fun of wearing Wazamba is that you get to say Wazamba 🙂
On board the delayed AMS-AGP return flight and looks like another day when I get to bed at 01:00 – and I truly am too old for this! Mind you, last night was self-inflicted as I was following the Brexit news (Not a topic for NST thank goodness. In unrelated news, I note the CP involves picking cherries).
Yesterday I was in Parfumerie Générale “Isparta” and today in Nobile 1942 “Malia”. Both very sweet for my tastes, so I can’t be bothered listing the notes other than Malia is supposedly Osmanthus (by way of Haribo if you ask me).
Hope you get good sleep tonight!
I located some after bath spray named Very Cherry in my collection and put that on this morning. It was very inexpensive (brand is Time Out, which I believe is from Sears) and it is surprisingly pleasant, if a person likes the cherry note. It’s not sweet (no cherry cough syrup) and it lingers a while.
Later, I will put on something with amber (likely one of the new DS and Durgas) to keep me warm. I’m in the part of the US experiencing the polar vortex and last night the temperature was -27. Right now it’s about -15. Week-end should be a lot better, with temps in the + thirties.
No cherries for me, though now I have a hankering for those cupcakes… Instead I’m trying out samples from St. Clair, and something about First Cut reminds me of ELdO’s Like This. Any chance there’s immortelle in First Cut?
XD Just checked their website, and yep, I see it now in the listed notes!
Immortelle absolute
Thanks chocolatemarzipan!
You know it’s funny but a close friend of mine picks up on the tobacco but for me it’s always been about the hay and lavender absolute…but Mr. Marzipan wore it today and I finally smelled the tobacco! maybe next time I will smell the immortelle!
Yes, I all of them smell noticeably different on my SO too!
It has warmed up to -13 degrees here in Chicago. Just saw on the news that it is going to hit -27 tomorrow my morning. So mad at Mr. Lucy. Yesterday around noon I begged him to jump in the car and drive south until Saturday. He wouldn’t do it. We could have been to Florida by now.
So, Tobacco Vanille it is. And will be for awhile. Nothing else will do right now
Next time buy a ticket and fly south yourself! 🙂
I totally should have just left him here!
If you decide to make a break for Florida pick me up on the way!
Luckily the worst of it is passing through right now. It’s supposed to hit 49 on Sunday!
…unfortunately, it’s headed your way. Stay safe.
Oh those cupcakes look delicious! ??
Absolutely horrible weather here today. I experienced a “snow squall” for the first time I can ever recall. What a nasty bit of business that was! It apparently contributed to a massive accident on a busy highway over in PA… 27 cars involved. Much better weather is in the forecast, but it’s going to be a couple of ugly days beforehand.
SOTD = Boyfriend again. I should have sprayed more of it today than I did. It seems strangely quiet and subdued.
Snow squalls are so dangerous! They come so quick. I’m glad you are safe!
Fortunately, the squall did NOT happen during rush hour! That would have been a Very Bad, No Good Thing. Lots of warning for it though, from the National Weather Service here.
It was a whiteout looking out the window between 3 and almost 4 this afternoon! I decided to skip the cocktail reception even though, as quickly as it came, it left just as quickly.
It was the sudden onset of that wintry blast which came as a shock to me. If I had to go anywhere after that, I would have reconsidered my plans, too.
My husband warned me about the the snow squalls today since I had to drive for a couple hours…I got lucky and missed it, so have still never seen one that I know of.
Sunny and pleasant here in San Diego, sending sympathies to those in the deep freeze. I wore a bit of DSH Become the Shaman, a palo santo scent.
Wearing Lolita Lempicka today. It is just a pleasure to wear and I smell cherries! I think maybe Fleur Defendue tomorrow! These seem to be the only two fragrances in my collection with a cherry note.
I wore Eau des Merveilles yesterday and Hiris today. Guess I’m in an Hermes mood.
I hope everyone in the path of the polar vortex is warm and comfortable. Stay safe!
Wearing a couple dabs of LPRN tonight. I got this tiny mini with some Sephora points awhile ago; at least the bottle is cute! I should try to use it up this week.
Hope everyone is staying as warm and safe as possible.
