Thursday scent of the day 1/17

Posted by Robin on 17 January 2019 290 Comments

Almost-Friday and Benjamin Franklin's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: partial credit for Ego Facto Poopoo Pidoo.

Reminder: on 1/18, wear a fragrance by Eau d'Italie, Etat Libre d'Orange, Escentric Molecules or Etro, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter E.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am wearing Etro Anice and trying to fight off a cold. If I had a list of favorite scents to wear when you have a cold, Anice would dfinitely be there. 😀

Partial credit for Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose. Nice plummy, spicy rose which is easy to wear. Sample thunk! After 3 hours I can barely smell it on my sweater. Not exciting enough to think about a full bottle.

Day off from work today to take my mother to a couple of doctor’s appointments. Routine check-ups. Planning to have lunch at her favorite thai restaurant later. It is going to be a long day, but I hope everything goes smoothly.

    Have a peaceful Thursday everyone!

Has anyone tried the perfume extender spray? I found it at CVS on the cheap (thanks to Arielle’s staff) but left mine at home, and wonder if it would help – there was another product on sale at Luckyscent over the holidays as well that had some great reviews.

Nirvana Black with the creamy vanilla note is very nice also. But I agree that the Rose is much better.

We are almost ready to go home. Even though it is tiring I always love spending time together even if it is for medical reasons. When I think how old and sick she is and that she will not last for too long, I appreciate that she is still with me. Now that my father is gone I hope she lives many, many more years.

I’m thankful my mom lived long enough for me to become acutely aware that each time we parted might be the last time I saw her. She was not an easy person, especially in later years, so having that awareness helped me enjoy her difficultedness (is that even a word???)

Glad to hear that your day’s appointments went well! I found the E&J Nirvana Rose to have a sizable whiff of vetiver in with the rose. I think I liked it best of all the E&J scents.

The vetiver is very noticeable in Nirvana Rose, however not the geranium, listed also as a note. I agree that it is the best compared to Nirvana Black and Nirvana White.

I’m in OJ Woman today, and thinking that Charogne is probably going to be a no-go tomorrow because I have to go to work and the ad copy that came with my sample says “Beware the beast”. Yikes. I’ll still test it (maybe over the weekend), but I have the dregs of a sample of Rien and the ELDO discovery set so lots to choose from for the Friday CP.

That’s what I’m wearing, too. I really don’t get the naming of the OJ Woman and OJ Man scents, since they smell completely unisex to me, and I like them equally. They should have just called them 1 and 2 or A and B or something.

Up since 4am with incredibly painful muscle spasms in my right shoulder – guess what caused it? Excessive iPad use! I am a cautionary tale of not spending too much time holding the iPad in one hand and typing with the other all day. From now on I am putting it on a stand and typing at the kitchen table.

Wearing various spritzes of the Sylvaine Delacourte vanilla sampler.

Cazaubon – Yikes that can be vicious -I have the same issue but it is from iPhone use….overuse. I have to remember to keep my wrist straight and take frequent breaks to stretch ligaments in my arm. It moves up and down so stay vigilant ….. it is hard to get rid of without massage.

I am wearing Eau d’Italie Au Lac and put just a little bit on, as it can be quite strong on me. I usually wear it in warmer months and maybe it projects more then, as it is pretty calm today and I may have to add some more.

Lumiere Blanche, and another sample is thunked.
I have had the worst kink in my back by my right shoulder pad for the last week. I must have wrenched it turning over in my sleep because it was killing me when I got up. I used one of my homemade warm compresses for a bit and thankfully it is feeling better.
What a drag it is getting old.?

Are you doing color back to natural, non-gray? I keep thinking of color, but don’t like the cost of maintenance. I’d love to go blonder.

Yup, but it’s a lighter shade of brunette than my natural pre gray color. It still gives the hair plenty of color but the roots blend out much better when it grows. This way I can get away with only 4 trips to the hairdresser per year.

i was once a dark brunette, but as a got more and more grey i first lightened the tone to dark blond, now i am a platinum blonde. i have some dark roots, but i can get away with bleaching and a new short haircut every 8 weeks. With the blond, the grey does not show at all, i just look like a faux blonde…. my mother hates it, but i don’t care

I got color last winter in Pondicherry. Cost about $40 which is a small fortune in India. It was a fancy place in the French part of town. I took a selfie with a friend right after and I look like “Garth” the Dana Carvey stoner character – the hair was totally destroyed. Oh well it grew back.

        Always happy to enable!

I’ve been using the edt, but I’m interested in the others too. It’s very sheer – you’ll definitely need to reapply if you want it to last all day. I think Alyssa Ashley falls nearer the “clean” end of the musk spectrum (with Kiehl’s musk near the midpoint, and Muscs Koublai Khan at the “dirty” end of the spectrum), but without smelling like a dryer sheet. If you’ve tried and liked Kuumba Made Oriental Musk, you’ll probably like Alyssa Ashley.

    Hello All!

    1) Designing urban systems is tough. Designing a buy in by the populace? TOUGHER.

    2) SOTD: Am in a BeautyPie scent: Petals, Heliotrope and Ambrette. The box says eau de parfum, I say it performs more like a eau de toilette, which is not a bad thing. The website says that it had the direction of Frank Voelk to create their inaugural scents.

This scent, PHA, is a softly suggestive, warm white floral with a white musky drydown. This does not project very far, but it is persistent. Last night, when testing it I could still smell it on skin and clothes for a good 5-6 hours after spraying. It is warm and pretty, and would be a perfect everyday scent for anyone who just wants something very warm and floral. I can see a man from the Caribbean or the Levant wearing this; otherwise I think it would skew towards being termed as feminine.

    3) I have already done the Kondo method when I moved into my house-but I am gonna check out the thrift stores and see what other people are letting go due to lack of joy…

No E’s here. Gave away all my Escentric samples. I’ve been interested in smelling things for a year now and have gotten rid of the first bunch of samples. My taste is developing too much still, so not giving away full bottles yet, BUT have developed some buyer’s remorse over a good couple of bottles. Hopefully I’ll develop just a little bit more and start to like at least some of them again?! In Eau de Rochas today -for partial credit? I was in Chinatown yesterday, but got a really pink sweetie musk from it for the first time ever. Good that one is only a sample, though I did like it very much on two previous try outs.

SOTD is DSH Chinchilla again. I’ll probably wear it until my cute little decant is dry, then I may buy a bottle. Or ten! ?

Watched a pretty good movie last night on Amazon Prime called “Leave No Trace” about a vet who has been living off the grid for several years with his now almost teenage daughter. It was filmed entirely in Oregon, and was beautifully shot. The dialogue is minimal but meaningful as you’d imagine it would between two people who live in their own world. Alas, they are found out, and while the daughter adapts to society and people well, her dad cannot. It’s a bit heartbreaking at the end but still closes in a way the fulfills both characters needs. No bang! bang! shoot ‘em up action, which was a relief.

    Happy Almost Friday Day✌?

I loved Leave No Trace when I saw it in theaters, well worth it for all that gorgeous PacNW scenery. It reminded me of my own dad, a reclusive vet (though not to this extreme). Might watch it again now that it’s on Prime, thanks for the tip.

“Cold” is a good description. Most people liked it better than I did, lol. I actually might’ve liked it better had I not seen his other movie- part of it was his recycling the same devices from the last movie.

I’ve actually seen and touched a chinchilla in real life. SO incredibly soft! But all of the chinchilla I have encountered are very skittish, poor things. If the perfume is anywhere near as plush as the animal, it’s some amazing stuff.

I was really sad to see that the poet Mary Oliver has died. I really enjoyed the quiet way she observed nature and paid attention to everyday life and her surroundings through her work. Really inspirational in the same way Annie Dillard and others have been. If I had Moth I would wear that but will wear Lakeland Flora.

I’m in ELdO Noel au Balcon, and I think my sample will be going to the giveaway pile. I love the drydown but the opening is a bit much, even brash I’d say. Don’t get me wrong, baby (sorry I had to – ELdO peeps you get me), I love a bold scent and actually pass on perfumes when they’re too light. But Noel is just very harsh at first. I was worried I’d applied to much for three office, but it started to chill out after I got to work. But I had a VERY fragrant drive to work.

I just received a bottle of Bvlgari “Eau Parfumee au the Bleu” in the mail today from Costco (of all places), & I’m wearing the hell out of it! 150 ml/5 fl. oz. for $64.95. It is lovely and I have NST to thank or I would never have known about it.

Costco has really upped their fragrance game lately. Creed, Jo Malone, Bottega Veneta, Byredo, Christian Louboutin, etc. Their make-up offerings have gone high-end, too. All at killer prices.

Thank you! I was a little nervous about the lavender/shiso opener, but it is fleeting & the heart and base are wonderful. I also got Bottega Veneta eau Sensuelle. Haven’t really given it a go, but I sprayed some on an envelope for a guy in work. He said it smells like a high-end car freshener he uses. I wanted the original Bottega Veneta eau de Parfum, not this flanker, so I may return & invest the funds in the original. But I’ll give it the good ol’ college try first. I am slightly south of D.C. & our weather is Le M-i-s-e-r-a-b-l-e-s and gonna get worse this weekend. To everyone who’s getting ill or been ill, sleep a lot, after liberal spraying with a comfort-frag! Drink a lot of water w/ those Nyquil caplets. L’Heure Bleue (sp?) could work in place of Vick’s Vapo-rub! ??✊?????

I live 420 miles from my parents; wish I lived closer, but I never spare a phone call, card, or package to them. You are a great daughter! And a great-smelling one, too! ???????

On days when I am exhausted because of work and personal matters, I get annoyed for a couple of minutes thinking that I also have to take care of her issues which adds to my stress, but that feeling dissapears almost immediately when I know she won’t last for too long and I will miss her greatly. My father passed away last year and as days pass I miss him more. It is terribly sad. I am glad to hear you are always there for your parents despite the distance. We own them a lot and it is time to return that care and love to them. ❤

I am so sorry for your loss of your Dad. My day is coming and I dread it, with my Dad almost 86 and my Mom at 87. I don’t know how one gets over such a massive loss but I know people do it all the time and so shall I when my time comes. And you are SO right, we do owe them so very much! Would you perchance like a sample of the Bottega Veneta eau Sensuelle I just got? I’d be happy to mail you one (I enjoy the snail mail process & post at least one letter or card per week). If so, email me at ellebe333 at gmail dot com. I also have samples I got at Luckyscent and Surrender to Chance that I need to re-home, so let me know if you want to see the list! Have a good day and TGIF! ✊???????

I didn’t mean “get over” but more like how one continues to move forward… Felt a need to clarify, since it sounded a little cavalier.

Trying to catch up now with comments left for me yesterday. When our parents reach certain age, we tend to think many times that they will leave us soon. That thought makes me sad and anxious. But, I try to shake those thoughts away from my mind by telling myself that it is better to leave that sadness for the time when they depart. Now, we need to focus on the moments we can still share with them, enjoy their company, make them feel loved despite the distance and made the rest of their and our lives happy and worthy, no matter how difficult it is. Any second is precious and we need to be thankful for it with a positive and cheerful attitude. We will survive now and later.

I would love to try the Eau Sensuelle for sure. I finished my bottle of the original long time ago and never replaced it. Too many perfumes to try. I will email you tonight when I get home. Thanks!

I’m late checking in due to a very long and tiring day. I now have commuting woes due to driving Mom to her activity center, then hopping on the freeway 15 minutes to work, a 15 minute walk to and from my office from the parking garage, and an hour commute to go pick up Mom again after teaching my classes, since by then I’m in prime traffic time. My leg is still weaker than I would wish and my throat gets sore from lecturing. Gosh I feel so decrepit. I’ve got a couple of those typical young male students who want to tell me everything we’re discussing is beneath them. Fortunately I’ve got other students who seem lively and interesting. Our weather was glorious today and sunny. My SOTD was SL participe passé. Time for a nap now! I’m planning to search for my misssing “E” fragrances tomorrow.

Traffic is the worst! Hope your nap is refreshing!

Hope you rested well. It makes me happy that you are having good weather ? I was trying to think of something funny to say about your typical male student’s, but looks like my funny bone is misplaced today. I just know there is a joke in there somewhere ?
