It's Friday! Our community project for today is My Precious...wear a scent that references jewels or precious metals. Thanks go to thegoddessrena for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I have Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds on a blotter on my desk, and I'm thinking about whether I want it on my person today or not. We'll see. I might go with Comme des Garçons 888 instead.
Reminder: on 1/18, wear a fragrance by Eau d'Italie, Etat Libre d'Orange, Escentric Molecules or Etro, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter E.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows an emerald, diamond and gold evening box by David Webb ("Designed as a sculpted 18k gold artichoke, the clasp set with a cabochon emerald trimmed with circular-cut diamonds, opening to reveal a single compartment with a mirrored lid, mounted in platinum and 18k gold") that went for $116,500 at the Collection of Elizabeth Taylor: Jewelry (II) auction at Christie's in 2011.
Wearing Bvlgari Le Gemme Ashlemah (which I think means sweet dreams), courtesy of a very generous NSTer. It’s a gorgeous iris. This is a description that I found-
“Inspired by Amethyst, the sacred gem, a symbol of perfect balance. This gemstone leads us to meditation, knowledge and spirituality. Amethyst is associated with the divine, with the elevation of the spirit, and purity. It is believed that Amethysts bring clarity to our dreams. Ashlemah blends lavender essence, iris absolute and musk to bring balance and elegance to the woman who wears it”
Nice description! Do you feel balanced and elegant today?
Nope LOL ? ?
See, now this is the kind of marketing that can get to me. I don’t really need a perfume that makes me sexy running on the beach, but one that elevates me spiritually? I’m in! Where can I find this? ?
Actually, it sounds quite lovely. I’m a little afraid of lavender, but I’m intrigued.
I adore lavender so it works for me
I really regretted I do not have anything from Le Gemme collection, because, of course, it is perfect for this CP. Great pairing.
It came in the post last night. Had it not I would not be participating.
Do you have two accounts, one with an 8 at the end of the name and one without? With two very different colors? I’m so confused.
I reckon it’s an evil twin…
Haha 🙂 or two of a set of octuplets.
Great timing! 🙂
Happy belated Birthday!
Vanille Insensee. I’m afraid I have nothing in my collection right now including samples that works for this cp.
This is the first birthday I have worked in over a decade.? Usually I take a week of staycation over my bday, but this year I just didn’t.
I’m hoping mals, my birthday twin, pops in today.
Happy Brithday!
It’s a pity you cannot have a staycation, but I hope you still have a great day.
*Happy Birthday*
Happy Birthday!
Hope it is a great birthday despite the working, madtowngirl!

Happy birthday, madtowngirl! Celebrate all weekend, nay, all month long. ?? ?
Happy Happy Birthday!!!!

Happy birthday to you and mals!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday, mtg! It must be cool to be born on 111!
Happy birthday!
Naomi Goodsir Or du Serail, another gold-themed scent. And it does smell golden. My opinion on it is very similar to Kevin’s (in his review on NST). It’s a sweet blend of tobacco, honey and dried fruit. I am quite enjoying my sample today, but I’ll probably stick to Chergui and Tabac Rouge. If you like this gourmand tobacco genre, try Or du Serail. It’s yummy.
Twins! I went for the FB on this one and have never regretted it.
Hey twin!
I somehow do not feel I need more of it (yet), but I’ll definitely enjoy using a sample. Now is the coldest time of the year, so the scents of this kind are quite welcome.
oooohh that does sound like something I’d like.
I love love love Or du Sérail, you smell fantastic.
Christian d’Or Homme. Yeah, I cheated…
😆
Cute. And you smell wonderful.
Nice cheat though!
And you smell very good 🙂
?
Not joining the CP today, since I had nothing that I wanted to wear. I am sampling Un Zeste de Rose by Les Parfums de Rosine. Pretty, but a little generic.
Sometimes pretty but generic enough!
SOTD- Moschino Toujours Glamour, which is much more agreeable on my skin when sprayed and not dabbed on. The acidic note is gone.
My gem scent-in-my-head for today would be Elizabeth Taylor Diamonds and Rubies EDP.
Diamonds and Rubies is a great one! I never wear it though because when I’m in a Grand Rose mood, I go with Nahema. I might try to pass along my bottle in the next freebiemeet.
I remembered the CP! Have started the day in the Bulgari blue tea, which I usually wear in the summer.
I like that one 🙂
I have nothing that fits the brief but I was idly rummaging through some samples and saw Bond No. 9 Central Park, which I remembered was once called “The Jewel of Manhattan”. That’ll do!
Except it smells like bathroom products, bright and harsh and detergenty, mostly Comet powder but also toilet cleaner and that spray that keeps your shower stall from getting mildewed. It’s not good. Post-shower, I replaced it with Serge Lutens Fourreau Noir, which may not be a jewel but at least isn’t a cleaning product either.
Yuck. That Bond no. 9 sounds terrible.
I absolutely love your inspiration – sorry you’re not being rewarded with a good scent for such a good idea!
I enjoyed your review. Sounds like they were going for clean and got carried away. Now, what should a perfume named Central Park actually smell like? I guess it depends on the season.
Eww. Sounds like they meant the Central Park bathrooms ?
Ewwww
Sounds like I can give that Bond No. 9 a very wide berth!
I feel that way about most Bonds. But you smell fab in Fourreau Noir!
I reserved Oud Saphir from Atelier Cologne for this day. Today I am king of sapphire.
Nice one.
heavens, a golden artichoke!
just white-knuckling through this terrible week, so didn’t even think of the cp. wearing a lab on fire paris/la, i wish this wasn’t so expensive! of course as soon as i buy a FB i will neglect it for something else.
white diamonds is a great choice, i always see little minis of the parfum on ebay and am tempted. if the regular spray is as bold as it is, imagine what a powerhouse the parfum must be…
I love paris/la! I keep waffling about whether a full bottle would get enough use to be worth it. It’s been on my “to buy list” for at least 2 years now.
I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a terrible week. I hope things start looking up soon.
Hope things will be looking up at the weekend. I have a mini of the parfum, I should try it, the bottle is darling.
i have a mini of White Diamonds in parfum form I received as a GWP. It’s not a scent I would ever be tempted to try but I have to admit how surprised I was when I tried it in the parfum form. It’s quite lovely, do give it a try. I was almost going to wear it today.
I also really really enjoy Paris*L.A.
Sorry about your week 🙁 Mine has been pretty bad, too. So bad that even the weekend holds paltry appeal. Hope things improve soon!
That’s how I feel, even with the weekend, I still have to go back on Monday! I hope your weekend is great and your week even better 🙂
Thanks <3 you too!
I also hope your weekend is great and that next week will be MUCH better. Good wishes wafting your way!
Thank you, Amyitis <3
I went for gold, Amouage Gold. I adore this one it’s so smooth, rich, well balanced and gorgeous. Layer upon layer of pure perfection!
Twins! We’re so fancy!
I love Amouage Gold but the civet makes it very poopy on my skin. The men’s version works better for me.
Smelling very classy! ?
So beautiful! I feel so dressed up when I wear it.
Another twin here! Yes, I heartily second everything you said about Gold!! It’s sublime.
Robin, you’re killing me with emeralds this week! Woo! I’m like you, trying to decide if I really want to wear Elizabeth Taylor Black Pearl, or maybe instead some Calling All Angels, with its 24k gold flakes and Herkimer diamond. I think the latter will win, but I’ll have another cup of (Ethiopian) coffee first before deciding.
Oh nice choice!
Did you ever watch a series called Gemhunt – about five years ago – where a gem trader and a geologist go to Africa etc. searching for gems to buy. It was one of those series that was both fascinating ( sourcing the stones, the geology) and appalling ( the dealing aspect and profit ).
No, I’ve never heard of it, but it does sound intriguing.
Which perfume did you pick Calypso?
That is my favorite Liz Taylor fragrance and the only one I have a bottle of.
Wearing Herve Domar Emeraude today. Coffee…
I wanted to wear Vero Kern’s Rubj, for two obvious reasons, but my sample has evaporated (not surprising, really, I got it a while back and had used it already, too). So I ended up scentless and will just hang around to see what others are wearing.
My little decant of Rubj evaporated very quickly, like over a year’s time. Maybe the higher concentration of naturals?
Mine was definitely much older, so I’m not complaining at all. And the composition might indeed be a factor, too.
That is a shame, I’ve still got my 2 small samples from years ago. They seem to be fine.
Great choice though! Completely forgot that Rubj would have been a good choice for today.
I was indeed very pleased with my choice and imagined how everyone will congratulate me on it! But universe has swiftly punished me for my hubris.
I am surprised Tom Ford hasn’t created a perfume called Hubris
Yeah, Hubris, a self portrait 😉
In a mirror-finished bottle
HA! Clever !
Hello perfume lovelies. I have been lurking mostly, trying to get through mounds of work and a horrible, no good, really bad, you’ve gotta be kidding me virus.
Anyhow, jumping in to tell you that yesterday a package arrived from Le Labo. It was one of those 15 ml bottles, of Santal 33. With great fanfare my husband suggested that indeed this year he was very early with Valentine’s Day. Hah! Wonder when he ordered it? It is very nice, even if, as Hajusuuri says, everyone in NYC wears it. Out here the fragrance I’ve been smelling most in the wild is the Joy Dior perfume. I actually don’t mind it, and even went back and tried smelling it on paper and my skin again… nope. Not for me. But I am not minding it on others one bit.
I wore Santal for the second time yesterday. The first time I didn’t care for it, but yesterday I kind of liked it, until my husband walked in and asked “What smells like dill pickles?” Yeah, it was me.
It opens with a dill note on me too. Once it dries down a bit, for me that dillness (new adjective!) starts to go in the direction of Dzongkha–but more floral than Dzongkha.
Dzongkha is a scent that I admire on paper, but it never smells quite right on me – I wonder if it and Santal have a note in common that’s not so great with my chemistry.
It might be the cardamom. Cardamom never quite smells like my scent memory of the spice. It is always a little greener and dustier than I expect.
I used to have a sample of Tauerville Amber Flash, which I also kind of liked until – on two separate occasions! – after I sprayed it on, my bf said, “do you smell beer?”
Yah. Not what you were going for. 😉
I smell like a jar of baby dills when I wear Santal 33.
Glad you are on the mend.
I am on my sixth day of anti-virals fit for a horse… What a mean trick for a virus to play on someone, coming back to haunt after all these years.
Hope you feel better soon and can find some time to rest. I often find rest is the best cure but sometimes is the hardest to find.
I hope the virus skedaddles, and fast!
Thank you. It is wretched.
Hope the virus goes soon.
Me too. Thanks.
Do I owe you any perfume?
Hmmmm I don’t think so! Feel free so send some anyway! ?
hang in there, OF, the viruses this year are beastly! I caught one last week and stayed home from work until today. Cough, cough!
Congrats on your FB of S33, and kudos to your husband on being early for V Day. 😀
Harhar about the Valentine’s Day– He missed Chinese New Year by a day as well.
Yeccccch on the virus! I’m hoping that this won’t be a bad winter for them.
I’ve got Shingles… so not seasonally related. I am assuming that since I am suffering through this, I am hereby immune to the flu for the next five years. That’s how it works, right?
Sounds good to me! So sorry that it’s shingles. Ouch!
Ugh, sorry to hear that. Feel better!
Well, that was an interesting surprise on the Santal! Hope you feel better asap.
Thanks!
Oof. Feel better soon! Good job to your husband for getting your Valentine’s Day present so early!
So sorry you’re dealing with the virus. My mom had been on a waiting list for the vaccination but so far no ETA. I think it was lovestosmellgood (where is she???) who mentioned Santal 33 being the signature scent of NYC!
Shingles are the pits! I had my brush with this as well and am so happy to hear you are on the mend.
Not participating in the CP. Wearing vintage Hermes 24 Faubourg from a generous NSTer. Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you!
TGIF! Looking forward to the weekend already. In the meantime coffee and soda are keeping me awake. Not a good combination, but I will survive!
Do watcha gotta do to stay awake!!!!
😀
You know, sometimes absolute strangers have stopped to tell me that the diet coke I’m drinking is killing me. I say, it’s what is keeping me upright! You do what ya gotta do pl67! Keep smelling fantastic!?
I agree! And at least you take diet coke. I take regular one. Someone at work suggested yesterday energy drinks, but I stopped drinking them completely a couple of years ago when my stomach was getting very affected. Combining coffee and soda helps greatly at rough times these days. We can do it Lillyjo! 😉
You are smelling great today! I sampled this at duty free while waiting for the plane on our way home recently; it is beautiful. It sounds like your office is ok with perfumes, so that is good.
I hope you have a relaxing weekend.
So far nobody has complained about my perfumes. That is a plus!
You too have a great weekend!
Oh my gosh, I bet you smell so amazing.
Thank you! ?
Vintage 24 Faubourg sounds like it would be fan-freaking-tastic!
It is!?
I was planning to wear Dries van Noten today, but when I spritzed it from the manufacturer’s sample I’ve been hoarding it had turned! Yuck! My husband walked in just after I sprayed and before I scrubbed – his said “I like most of your perfumes, but I can’t understand why you’d want to smell like that!” and then ran away.
This made me really annoyed – I love Dries van Noten, but it’s rarely cold enough here to wear it. This spoiled sample has strengthened my no-buy resolve for this year.
After scrubbing, I chose Munchen by Frau Tonis perfumes. Smelling great now!
Yup. And you should be thunking too ???
As an undersprayer, it’s going to be a while before I thunk any bottles! But I’m working on it!
Oooo..we are evil spray twins as my skin eats scents so I am always heavy handed.
Undersprayers unite! I can hardly put a dent in a bottle unless it’s cologne 😀
tiffanie, I’m beginning to think we were separated at birth! ?
Another member of the undersprayers club here!
Poor you!! My old sample DVN smelled like bacon ???
Ewwww.
What a shame, DVN is so yummy (when it’s fresh).
Should have worn Bvlgari Black or my decant of VC&A Bois d’Iris for jeweler points at least. But instead, alas, it’s Kuumba Made Persian Garden, a favorite musk. I am sitting in the dermatologist ‘s office waiting for my appt and very NOT excited about it.
I hope your wait goes quickly. Here one waits at least 2 hours as they are so overbooked. And WHY? That is the one speciality that CAN plan their day. Anyway, best of luck for the wait and the appointment. ?
Ugh, I hate waiting at the doctor.
Hope that your doctor visit went well! ?
Forgot I had a mini White Diamonds, but probably wouldn’t have wanted on my person, either. My plan was Perle de Mousse, but too cold for such a Springy scent. So…
I’m wearing a smidge of SL Iris Silver Mist from a wee decant. I can only wear this when it’s really cold, maybe because of a metallic edge? Anyway, at 26 F, it’s working out just fine!
I’ve had a decant of ISM for years. It’s like White Diamonds in the sense that I never want to wear it. It’s root vegetables and iris. ?
I don’t mind the rooty part as much as the steel knife I smell, too. I’ve also had this decant for a few years. I like to sniff it more than I like wearing it. It’s mostly gone already now anyway.
I’ve never noticed a metallic smell in ISM before, only earthy carrots and iris. Will have to wear it again soon and pay more attention.
Maybe the metallic note was reformulated away?
I just can’t wear ISM. I’ve tried multiple times and can’t.
Ooh, I like Iris Silver Mist and Perle de Mousse! But you’re right, Perle is for spring.
Wearing Commodity Gold today from a sample. It’s a clean vanilla-amber to me, nice for winter days but might switch to something yummier/deeper for evening. My boyfriend was digging it as we were getting ready this morning, and since he’s the one who has to smell me most often, that makes it a keeper. Don’t see the FB in my future though, have plenty of benzoin/vanilla types already!
I like that one- very cosy and well balanced!
I wore it yesterday and really enjoyed the camphor note in the beginning stage.
yes! it gets less weird as it dries down but still nice and cozy
I really liked the Commodity Gold also.
Wearing Rubj edp today, and kicking myself for not getting a full bottle. I’ve already gone through one 10 ml decant, and am half way through a second. It’s definitely been worn enough to warrant a full bottle purchase, even at the price that put me off for so long. Of course, now I can’t find it, and I haven’t heard anything about whether or not Vero Profumo will continue.
So sorry about the dwindling supply of Rubj. It’s a beauty. Her scents were expensive and it was hard to pull the trigger, but I finally got Rubj VdE last year and I’m so happy I did, as it was already sold out by the time she passed away.
White Diamonds is perfect for the project but I completely understand not wanting to wear it. Those minis are so ubiquitous though; I’m sure anyone who has ever been to an estate sale or bought a vintage lot has at least one!
I’m in Andy Warhol Silver Factory, and grateful to the CP for making it an easy decision this morning – I had to get out the door in 15 minutes due to a much needed and very delicious application of the snooze button.
That is one of the Bond’s that gets some serious love, but I can never find it in stores to try. What’s it like?
It’s discontinued alas. I would describe it as “velvety incense” but Robin reviewed it once and described it much better!
Velvety incense sounds great!
Regina, you smelled great today! I got zero points…I never put on the White Diamonds OR 888.
Ha – I was just wishing I had a bit of White Diamonds to wear! I don’t have much that fits the theme, so I went big in Amouage Gold.
Happy weekend!
We are the Posh Kids on the Block today!
Yes you are!
I was hoping that I would have some scent twins today!
Quadruplets, woot! Yep, Gold is going big—it’s the big guns! …Oh hey, wait, there were two of us wafting that perfection across the Old Pueblo?! Excellent!
Oh, that old box? I have twenty just like it rotting away in the basement. Pfft. (Note: I neither have $2,330,000 in artichoke boxes, nor a basement.) I don’t want a $116,500 artichoke box, but I do want enough money to make a $116,500 artichoke box a realistic purchase. Think of how much perfume that would be!
I completely failed this CP, and am wearing the fabulous HG Slowdive. I feel like I am snuggling a beeswax candle. I feel like I’m back on some Greek mountains in the gift shop of this monastery.
i feel like the gold artichoke is the same thing as buying a fancy wallet-you spent all your money on the wallet, and now you have no money to put in it!
The story of my life.
Ahahaha 🙂 So true!
I’d like to be in that monastery right now.
Agreed.
Sometimes low fi luxury is the BEST luxury.
Me too, sister. It was so gorgeous and peaceful.
I went there just after defending my thesis, during a week-long trip to Greece. I always wonder if I loved it so much because it was really spectacular, or if part of it was because of the relief I felt at having successfully completed a PhD. Either way, it was a great monastery.
This week got me into some jewelry googling that opened my eyes to a whole new level of wealth that I suppose I knew existed, but certainly never spent much time browsing the online stores of until this CP!
Hahaha, and now all your Internet ads will be MORE gorgeous and expensive jewelry. I love gems. Hmm, maybe I should go google some fantabulously pricy jewelers now.
You are cracking me up this week ?
That’s great! Making you laugh makes me happy <3
How have I still not tried Slowdive?! It sounds perfect for me. I want to be in the mountains at a monastery with you.
I don’t know! It IS perfect! If I come in on more than my little decant, I will send you some 🙂
People generally don’t get it when I say (about some ridiculously extravagant or overpriced thing) “I wish I had enough money to buy that.” They will ask “Why do you want that?” and I reply “I don’t. I just wish I had enough money to be able to buy it.”
Ha!
I’m glad you understand me! That’s exactly how I feel 🙂
You smell great!
Thanks, cazaubon 🙂
DSH Fumee d’Or for me today
You smelled great today!
Roberto Cavalli Oro today, perfect in this cold (for Florida) weather.
I wish I was in cold for Florida weather instead of cold for Pennsylvania weather 😉
Well, I participated all week and had options in mind for today but I ended up wearing Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant. I used the shower gel this morning, and the fragrance really lingers on my skin. It smelled so good. What else was I to do? It didn’t feel right to put Bois d’Argent or Woman in Gold on top of EF shower gel, and I don’t wear DK Gold to work due to my co-worker’s dislike of lilies.
Tonight the boyfriend and I are going to watch Robocop at Cinerama. It’s one of his favorite movies (I like it too), and it will be fun to see it on the big screen in a nice theater. Bonus is the mixed bag of chocolate and regular popcorn that they serve. It smells like Coco Puffs cereal when you walk in the theater.
Which version of RoboCop? If it is the Peter Weller version, then YES. YES. YES.
Of COURSE it’s the Peter Weller version!
OH HECK YES!!!
It was great on the big screen!
I really like the AG EF showergel and was set on buying the perfume. However, after trying the perfume in store (in France) three times, I realised something was “off”” on my skin. Claire V made a comment about the same on Basenotes – except she could pin-point the culprit. (Whatever it was, I’ve since forgotten!)
See, I had to go find the reference. It is in Claire V’s Le Labo Patch 24 review, where she says “the dreaded fir balsam sweat note does make an appearance later on, but is not the dealbreaker it is in Baccarat Rouge 540 or Encens Flamboyant”. In case you were wondering.
I guess fir balsam reacts well with my chemistry – my boss loved EF on me and would compliment me every time I wore it. I finally gave him a bottle.
I wish I were you. I’ll have to make do with the shower gel! And lucky boss…
Have fun!!
You smelled wonderful today! You might still… how is longevity of Encens Flamboyant for you?
Pretty good, especially considering I applied from a dabber sample. I could still smell remnants when I got home for work. I’d say the projection tones down a bit after 4 hours, but it still lasts a good 4 or 5 more close to the skin.
EF is soooo good. You smell fantastic.
No CP points as I stopped to chat while walking the dog and lingered too long over my coffee – rushing out the door to work. Grabbed SJP Stash because it was right in front and never fails me. Happy Friday!
scent twins!
but we can get at least half points, because a stash is, where all the precious things are stored!!!
Clever!
Stash is sooooo good!
Stash is great!
Stash is great!
Hi All! Happy First Full Week Of the Year!
1) I am in Boucheron, which is a jewelry house so half a point.
2) ALSO: Are any of you members of Beauty Pie (a makeup/skincare subscription concept) ? If you are and have tried their new fragrances, let me know. I sent away for samples and such and I would like to hear your thoughts.
3) Fun with population project models in terms of resource usage! It’s all about getting not just good data, but understanding motivations as well! This quarter’s classes is going be LIT.
The bottle for Boucheron is very jewel-like too, I think you get full credit!
Oh it is such a pretty and evocative bottle. I love it!
I love makeup/skincare subscriptions but haven’t heard of that one. I’ll have to look it up.
It’s a provocative concept: you pay for a membership, kinda like Costco, and this membership allows you to buy their own branded products, which are said to be super high end luxe, for less money than even getting them at the drugstore.
I started an informal beauty blog with some friends and have been testing the products. Beauty Pie just came out with fragrances, so I will checking that out as well.
I am wearing Regime des Fleurs Turquoise today. It fits the project and smells great!
Had to look that one up, but it sounds nice!
My grad school alma mater (NYU) had a holiday event at Christie’s before the auction and I was able to gawk at Liz Taylor’s stuff. Oh my gawd!
SOTD = Rania J. Ambre LoupE
OK, so I deliberately misspelled it so as to claim credit for this CP. Undina guessed it from my imperfect clues yesterday. A loupe is a small magnifying glass used by jewelers. I love Ambre Loup. I thunked a decant a while back!
Re: Wool dryer balls. I saw a 4-pack + a bottle of “Linen Fresh” essential oil for sale at Marshall’s for $10. The instructions mentioned using 3-4 drops of essential oil but did not say if it is per ball or per load (all 4 drops in one ball only even if you are using multiple balls). My Indult Tihota experiment was inconclusive. Because iof the alcohol content of the perfume, I was leery of using it. I’m not giving up though and will find or buy an essential oil to try it again!
You smell Fabulous H!!
I love love Ambre Loup..E!
Thank you! Very nice and long-lasting on me!
I tried to cheat with the clues last night, but struck out. Good one!
lillyjo, have you tried Ambre Loup? If not, I would be happy to send you some!
It should count anyway, because fossil amber resin is used as a gemstone.
I like the way you think!
Oh that preview of the auction at Christie’s sounds like it was incredible!! Lucky you!
It was the experience of a lifetime! That said, I believe the public can preview auction lots at Sotheby’s without an appointment at specific times (including weekends).
The auction preview sounds like an amazing experience.
It sure was! She was a well-loved woman, judging by the quality and quantity of her collection!
In By Killian Gold Knight, since I gave my sample of Woman in Gold away. This is all I’ve got…
How is it?
The notes on the card is patchouli, bergamot, vanilla and honey. What I smell is sweet, spicy, boozy, woody. In that order. The booziness is that of rum. The honey comes through somewhere in the middle, but it is not a honey perfume like SL MdB. I think it is perhaps too sweet for most men. Hope this helps!
The notes are…
Oh, thank you for this! I am very fond of Back to Black – sexy sweet baby powder- but I balk at the price. So i know what to expect when I ask for a sample.
Well….I just went with what was my most ‘My Precious’ in my samples stash.
Le Temps D’une Fète . PdN!
And it is. I wonder what I would have to pay for it IF I could find it online.
…..I have saved this for 2 years, a danber about 50% full ….and it smells Glorious.
No CP but A true CROWNED JEWEL just the same. N’est pas?
Happy Friday all.
Good one! It does smell so amazing. Glad you’re enjoying it today!
Long long time no comment. Wearing April Aromatics Irisistible (CP compatible because Herkimer diamonds in bottle but half points as I am wearing it from a sample).
Beautiful beautiful beautiful iris. La Pausa, Hiris, I love les carottes territory but imho better than those, and fb worthy after saving up!
Oh no! You have created a lemming! A must try for sure!
If you love iris I’m afraid you have to. Can’t de-lemming you. But you could wait till Tanja offers it in travelspray….I don’t think I will though!
I will de-lemming her because we’re no buy partners! Pl67, don’t think about it!!! ???
???
????
Looking forward to the travel spray later on. Iris is my favorite note and a huge obsession for me.
I bet you smell really good, and it’s nice to see you comment. Hope things are well with you.
Hi Aurora, nice to see you here! It is a lovely perfume. I have been better, lots of bad luck healthwise but it allows for commenting once in a while and lots of reading!
Sorry to hear this. Hope you’re on the mend!
So sorry about your health bad luck. Hope 2019 will be better, I miss your comments on BdJ too, do try to come back from time to time and yes to lots of reading.
Ah – just ordered a sample!
On my wrist a little goes a long way!
Nice to see you here again, Hamamelis! Irisistible is on my wish list of infinity.
Nice to see you too! I think it deserves a place on your wishlist!
Good to see you! There’s been a lot of curiosity about Irisistible here at NST…
You too! I thought there might be which was extra reason to comment.
I may have to get a hajusuuri-sized sample!
I thought of you Hajusuuri, when falling in love with this iris, and I think a Hajusuuri size sample is inevitable! It is utterly gorgeous imho!
My dad is getting out of the hospital today. I was dropped off at work over an hour early. So I had lunch and now just hanging out finishing my drink. Wearing Diorella today because it was the only decant that was in my work coat.
Glad to hear you dad is going home today. I hope he has a speedy recovery!
Glad to hear your dad gets to come home.
Hurray for your dad getting out of the hospital today!
I hope your dad feels better soon!
I went with Black Jade by Lubin for the CP. No diamonds or pearls for me.
Somehow, Black Jade sounds even more rare and elegant than diamonds and pearls!
You smell fabulous!
Sounds like there’s no need for diamonds or pearls with that one!
SOTD is Bvlgari Omnia (the original), which I first heard about here on NST. I hunted down a (ridiculous!) bottle, and even though it was discontinued, I was able to find it at a good price a few years ago. Now, I’m not sure.
Off to the dentist in a little bit to deal with my tooth that chipped a few weeks ago. I had a dream last night that the dentist told me the tooth was in fact fake, but would be replaced by a real one in its own time. Kind of like a shark. In the dream I was SO happy because it meant no drilling, pounding, or other type of dental torture. And, he only charged $20 to tell me this. ?
Is there a word for “opposite of nightmare”?
Sweet dream ..hey, that’s my perfume today LOL ? ?
You smell so cosy and I hope you dentist appointment will go painlessly, that’s quite a dream.
Was the dream dentist super attractive as well? That would have been the trifecta!
My FSA account is going to be completely used up by the end of January on dental stuff…..Hubs is getting a root canal and crown on Monday, and my 13 yr old son is getting his braces the week after.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ gone gone gone to the dentist! 🙂
I have to get a chipped tooth fixed later this month…and not for the first time. I wish you fortitude!
Ha! Hang in there, I doubt it’s going to go as well as your dream!
Oooooof! Best of luck at the dentist!
I hope the dentist went well.
I went old- school with Padparadscha by Satellite. I thought about trying to find my sample of JAR Diamond Water, but I remembered that I didn’t really love it and my decant of Padparadscha was nearby.
Oh, forgot that one, nice choice!!
My plan was to wear White Diamonds, but it is way to cold today. I went with Cuir Amethyst. I went back to Marshalls and picked up my 17 dollar Insolence edt, plus it came with a mascara, which I have been out of. I’m off to do yet another iep … have a great Friday everyone!
Great buy!
I love Insolence! It’s such a fun fragrance.
Were all the bottles that you were considering still there? If so that’s rather amazing.
They were except la panthere soir. I actually saw Chamade there too, but it was seventy dollars. You know in my area, I doubt most people would recognize Guerlain as a “good “brand. Even the Mon Guerlain is on the back shelf at Macy’s
Michael Kors and Coach are huge around here.
Guerlain at Marshall’s!! ?
Yay on the Insolence! You smell great in Cuir Amethyst.
Armani Oud Royal today. It’s the best related to the theme I could find in my collection. It’s precious enough for me and the cap looks like a gold stone ?
Precious enough then 🙂
Good Lord, that box. Who would drop $117K on a gold, platinum, emerald, and diamond box the shape of an artichoke??…ME!!!?? If I could. But I can’t. So, whew!
CP SOTD is Amouage Gold.
Happy Friday, NST!
Hiya scent twin! ?
Hellooo! ??
I love the box, but the name confuses me. What is an “evening box”? Do I have to hide it in a drawer during the day?
Hahaha. I think it might be like a structured clutch.
IKR?? Like, a vampire bag—that you can only let out at night?!?? Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s a minaudière.
Wore Stash in the morning, after thinking first about Bois d´Argent, but not wanting to wear that.
Now wearing Un Bois Vanille for a cosy evening with the boyfriend. Will eat some homemade Shakshuka later.
Had to google shakshuka, it looks delicious!
Keeping with the CP, I’m wearing Pacifica Breath Taking (infused with shards of rose quartz) and a pair of amazonite earrings.
We’re almost to the weekend! We can make it!
Just barely…but yes we can 🙂
Sorry not participating in the cp today. Sotd is Jasmin Rouge. Greetings from London! I am in a pub and there is a pub cat (see my instagram). Life is good.
🙂
Glad you’re enjoying London, pubs and cats go so well together, they make one feel at home.
Oh and I just saw the Anglo Saxon Kingdoms exhibition at the British Library. If you are a lover of unique and precious books and/or everything medieval, go see it. Its amazing!
Wow, that sounds like something that’s definitely worthwhile! How cool!
Thank you Jiji, I’ll try to go see it, glad you enjoyed it, I love the British Library.
Its on til February 19
Its crowded but so worth it.
I saw the Lindisfarne gospels, a unique Beowolf text and the Domesday Book…. I was in awe!
Fiele Myrrha with a dash of JM tobacco and mandarin.
Robin, I understand your hesitation, I have to be in the mood for WD, you certainly gave us a lot of luxury items this week.
In EL Dazzling Silver, I had first fallen for the body cream (alas long gone) and went back to the store for a bottle, 50ml, still almost full so I must wear it more.
I used to wear Dazzling Gold. Estee Lauder should have kept both, imo.
Oh yes, Gold was very good too, and these body creams were amazing, totally agree with you they deserved to stay available.
And I was not in the mood all day, turns out!
Happy FriYAY Y’all!
Ran out of the house scentless….that’s what oversleeping causes!
But….had to go to Walgreens for a photo pickup at lunch, so of course I had to see what Christmas clearance might be left. Found a 2 pk of Charlie cologne for $8.00, so I gave one to my scent loving coworker and will try mine later tonight. I do love me a good aldehyde, and I don’t remember what Charlie smells like! 🙂
Today’s question for perfume lovers in the know: Has anyone tried the monthly “Scented” sample from ‘Indigo perfumery? I’ve never shopped Indigo, but I see that most of the brands there are indies that I’ve never heard of, much less tried. Curious! I guess for $12 I’ll try one month, but wondering if anyone subscribes regularly?
HAPPY WEEKEND! 🙂
I am so intrigued by Indigo’ Scented program. It sounds like a blast! They are right here in my town but on the other side of the river (we need a special visa to cross) and I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t made it over there yet. One of these days…
I went ahead and ordered one month just to try it! I’ll report later on here…..
Can’t wait to hear!
I’m an Eastsider too. Lol at “we need a special visa to cross”
Let me know if you ever want to brave the crossing together!
Would love to! Shoot me an email at shelp216 [at] gmail if you wanna plan a trip sometime.
I’ve never been to the actual shop but I’ve ordered online from them several times. The owner is very nice.
I was planning on wearing Chanel 1932, which refers to the year their Diamond jewelry collection came out. I think. But went with Boy as I was craving lavender ?. Will be wearing more of that (lavender) as I ordered 10ml’s FM Music for a while ?
You have to go with the perfume that calls out to you!
I am half-sisters with Amyitis this morning because I could find my little bottle of Kilian Woman in Gold. This goes on and off my “maybe I need more” list and got back on after I sprayed it. It is a light, pretty floral that doesn’t really smell like anything else I own.
We had a sad day at the humane society on Wednesday when one of the puppies didn’t wake up from anesthesia. The staff tried so hard to bring her back. Yesterday I went skiing and I can tell I will be hobbling around tomorrow. I knew I should have been doing squats and wall sits in the off-season! Happy Friday everyone!
Everyone at work want’s to go skiing again this year and I suppose I’ll go but will only be up and down the bunny slope the whole day ha! I’m afraid I’m a little too old to ever be considered a decent skier.
Oh, I’m so sorry about that puppy. What a shame.
Poor little pup! But it was a painless way to go, so I guess there’s that…
Has there been much snow up there? I’m in Salem and it’s much milder than last year. In the 50’s today. The past couple of weeks I’ve been here, I don’t think it dropped lower than high 30’s low 40’s, even at night ??
It’s been so long since I skied that I am sure I would be a hurting unit! Either from being out of condition or from falling. Good for you for keeping it up.
Oh, poor pup.
I hope your muscles recover soon. At least it won’t be as bad the next time you go skiing this season.
Poor puppy. My girl goes in for her spay in March. I always worry when they have to be put under.
Clinique Wrappings. I was getting ready in a hurry this morning, and quickly sprayed some on before leaving the house.
I’d say yes because it’s almost sparking! Like gold.
Continuing Personal Chanel Week in my favorite, 31 Rue Cambon. Does it fit the project? Well, it makes me feel like a million bucks worth of jewels, so I’m going to say yes, it does.
You smell Heavenly! I just revisited it a few weeks and I am infatuated now…..
Scentless as yet, but after a shower I’m planning to accompany the supermarket shopping with Palissandre d’Or. I like several of the Aedes de Venustas range, but this is my only FB.
Last night, I saw Robyn’s question about whether The Hope lived up to the diamond. It’s a very nice soft, spicy perfume, and absolutely nothing like anything I associate with diamonds 🙂 . On the other hand, my experience of enormous diamonds is entirely virtual, so who knows what scent might come to mind if I was to drape The Hope around my neck!
Ahh Palissandre d’Or is another of my options for today that I forgot about.
You smell great, I love Palissandre d’Or.
Despite not being all that interested in precious jewelry, I used to like the room at the Smithsonian where they kept all the jewels, including the Hope Diamond (I think they’ve since redone that whole section).
I usually only wear a scent for the CP project on Fridays, but Robin’s beautiful emerald-jeweled photos the past few days inspired me to wear vintage Coty Emeraude the last two. Mmmm, love this one in winter.
But for today, it’s the ‘gold’ standard for me, one of my very favorites, Torrente L’Or de Torrente, its beautiful gold-leaf encrusted bottle that fits so perfectly in my hand and releases the coffee-rose-cedar scent I love so much. I wear it layered over Laura Mercier Creme Brulee body souffle. Smelling rich and elegant, even in my plaid flannel shirt! Hard to come by now, this is one bottle I never want to thunk.
Glannys, I saw you wore this the other day based upon my previous description. You called it ‘charming;’ I’m glad you enjoyed it!
So many interesting comments about White Diamonds today. Who woulda thought?
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead!
Someone else on here…Mals I think…loves Emeraude. I’ve never sniffed it and really must try it.
It’s been years since I sniffed it, but I thought at the time that there was a resemblance to maybe Jessica Simpson’s Fancy Nights?? YMMV.
Ikr! Liz would be proud!!
Failed the CP, wafting coziness in Amber Oud. I love this stuff. I am halfway through a largish decant and will be getting the FB when I think the decant. But I have more pressing purchases on the horizon, as I am determined to upgrade some of my recent thunks, Aftelier Honeyblossom for one, Wit and Hanbury also.
Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures. Fate. Sigh. So many. Think I need to grit my teeth and get another set of samples. 🙂
Hanbury is so good. I may upgrade to a larger decant once my small one is thunked.
I would say that “amber” is a semi-precious stone, so you get at least partial credit!
Oh I didn’t think of that! Happy to participate even by accident!
Failed the CP all week long, but really enjoying Felanilla today, thanks to the generous Petunia. ?
So glad you like it Nancy!
Bronze Goddess again for my points today- couldn’t find anything else to fit this one.
Good grief, that a week! TGIF! This work week has been crazy…definitely making up for all of that holiday vacation time. Also, I’ve been making a concerted effort to eat healthier both during the day and evenings. So I’ve been cooking dinner when I get home in the evening, and after that, prepping lunches for the next day. It’s fairly time consuming but I do actually feel better already. All of it is definitely keeping me busy though.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
Good pick for the CP!
Good job on the healthier eating! It’s time consuming for sure. But worth it!
Great choice! I have a couple bottles and a few BG adjacent products.
Congrats on the healthy choices for lunch and dinner. Its very time consuming but worth it because you know what you put in it.
BIG thanks to madtowngirl for posting her carrot cake recipe yesterday! I have copied it and saved it on my laptop for future reference. ??
I’m hoping that everyone in the storm’s path is either hunkered down, or making preparations to do so. It’s looking especially nasty for you folks in the Midwest. Yech! Stay safe and warm!!
SOTD = Amouage Gold pour Femme, from the sample stash. This is my first time wearing something with a lot of aldehydes in cold weather. It’s interesting… definitely seeing the “sparkle” people talk about, but it is more pronounced. My visual equivalent would be seeing the sun shining on a blanket of freshly fallen snow that doesn’t have a single mark or speck on it.
Hope we get nothing, but refuse to look at the forecast! We are finally going to take the tree down this weekend and install a new dishwasher…such boring plans it hardly matters if it snows or not 🙂
You smell absolutely fabulous, scent twin!! I’ve yet to wear Gold in cold weather, so I’ll have to make a mental note to do it the first chance I get. One aldehyde-heavy scent I *have* worn in the cold is N°5 L’Eau, and the aldehydes definitely do sparkle.
I was in Jovan Mink &Pearls earlier. Now that it has worn off, I am in Rich Hippie Flower Child ( it was in my purse). It really is a nice no-brainer go-to scent.
AC Silver Iris today. I love this one and really should wear it more. ?
Me too! Love Silver Iris.
SotD = Tam Dao
sandalwood instead of jewels, but it is one of a few scents I call “my precious.” And it’s soothing and centering abilities are saving me right now. Anyone want to take two lovely teenagers off my hands? Mine are driving me to drink, ay-yi-yi.
Hope everyone has a bang up Friday!
Sorry, nope. I had 130 teenagers to deal with today. That’s why I’m reading NST with a glass of Pinot Noir right now.
You smell beautiful.
thanks, but no deal, huh? thank goodness it’s the weekend.
you and that pinot are also smelling fabulous! 😀
lol! agree we are perfumistas separated at birth! 😀
I have nothing in my collection that remotely references gold or jewels, so I had to do a week of perfume cheating and skullduggery to win not just ‘some points’ but ALL THE POINTS. Wanna know how I did it? Read on!
Monday: Beaufort “Tonnere” – notes of gunpowder and blood and seawater, representing a fighting ship. So on Monday I fought my way to the Far East, looting as I went.
Tuesday: Lubin “Idole” – and what do idols have for eyes? well, right now they have holes where the jewels used to be, as I have made off with them.
Wednesday: Arquiste “Nanban” – notes of leather and spices representing the hold of a Japanese trading ship, which I commandeered to take my loot home with me.
Thursday: Jovoy “Les jeux sont faites” – I laundered my ill-gotten gains in the casino, and won handsomely to boot.
Friday: Opulent Perfumes “Opulence Oud” – time to enjoy the fruits of my week of wickedness.
And that is how I got all the points. Everyone else on NST who thought they got points for the Community Project – check your wallets and purses. Can you see them? No, you can not. I have them all now.* Bwahahaha!
* Except of course what I had to pay to Robin for “protection”. That dame is no mug and I ain’t messing with her.
Ha ha ha, very clever, and I think indeed you do win, especially with Opulent! If it’s opulent, it’s precious, right?
You had me at “les joux sont faites.” 😉
jeux! haha!
Ha! This was great!??
Yup. You win. Well played!
Excellent! ?
Brilliant! You’ve earned all the points!
Yep, you won ALL THE POINTS 🙂
Thank goodness you were gone before I got here. Now I’ll lock my points in the safe….
LOL!
I gathered all my old DSH samples and decants together after I was recently gifted Eau Cerise and Fleuriste. I tentatively sampled Fire Opal (version 2) today. When I bought this sample, I must have been influenced by the name, as I love fire opals, and the description :
“2014 Edition: A newly updated citrus Orange fragrance with a blast of fiery spice and glorious green freshness as it opens, moves through a golden orange blossom and jasmine heart then dries down into a subtle tea-laced, mossy chypre.”
I found this to be a very nice, classic mellow chypre, but I was expecting more spark!!! I love that aspect of Dawn’s work – I find that so many of them have a particular zing! that I find captivating. Once upon a time, this would have gone into the “retry” pile, but I’m pretty sure those days are long gone for me (excepting the old “retry* pile.) Now I only want to make time and space for exceptional, outstanding, inspirational.
My perfume plans were derailed this morning by a Nordstrom’s delivery of the two new Diptyque rose candles, Damascena & Centifolia. As soon as I opened the boxes I was overcome with the nuclear wave of rose that hit me and I got an instant headache. I had to drive them back to Nordstrom’s with the windows rolled down in the car, and after that did not feel in any condition to wear the Gold Leather I had planned.
Ew, that sounds awful, I hope that you are feeling better now!
Wow, really, you hated them?
The intense rose scent was so overpowering, I have never had anything give me an instant headache like that. It’s a real pity because the candles themselves were gorgeous, red and blue.
What a shame.
Oh, that’s a shame. Their rose perfumes are so lovely!
Sorry to hear that you didn’t like them— I’m always looking for nuclear candles myself!
Well, if you like strong rose scents you will be getting your money’s worth on these!
Cashmere Mist Pearl Essence for me! It’s a great night at home and bedtime scent, very soft.
Late but present. I’m just recovering from a nasty sinus infection, and was really in the mood to try something new for the first time in weeks. So I looked past Donna Karan Gold, M. Micallef Mon Parfum Gold, and my beloved Roberto Cavalli Oro (gold in a perfume name apparently is irresistible to me), and fished around in the sample ocean until I found Armani Privé Rouge Malachite. (Semi-precious counts, right?)
My assessment, with the caveat that my nose, already very idiosyncratic, may also not quite be recovered: it opens with something vaguely chemical-smelling, and the first half-hour or so is not quite scrub-worthy, but almost. Then a fruity smell arises, although it strikes me as a fairly restrained, ladylike fruitiness. Later it dries down into a pleasantly spicy, fruity oriental, and at that point I looked up the notes and discovered that what smelled like fruit to me is apparently the combination of tuberose, pink pepper, and a (quite) sweet amber. If you like your tuberose on the bubblegum side, this might be for you. I think I’ll give the sample one more try, although given the price, it might be more prudent to consider it money saved. I sniffed through the lot of Armani Privé at NM last year (on blotters), and think this was my favorite, but I didn’t love any of them.
Happy weekend, everyone! .Jewelry-related perfume names are very appealing to me, so I’m really looking forward to reading about all of your choices.
