Monday (and Plough Monday at that), sooner than you may have liked. Birthdays today: Zora Neale Hurston and Gerald Durrell. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Byredo Flowerhead, because I happened across it yesterday while looking for something else.
Reminder: on 1/11 we're doing My Precious...wear a scent that references jewels or precious metals. Suggested by thegoddessrena.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Colette Malouf Crocus Mesh Halo Headband "Named after the genus of flowering plants in the iris family, the Crocus group features a cup-shaped silhouette with honey-hued Swarovski® crystals nestled in its center. Winding vine-like leaves, beaded with crystals, give it extra sparkle." appears to be sold out at Neiman Marcus.
Wearing Grandiflora Madagascan Jasmin which is a truly beautiful green but not clean jasmine. Have you tried it Robin?
That’s the stephanotis one by Roudnitska, and I meant to but never did. Do you adore it?
Pretty sure I never tried any after the first magnolia ones.
It is very beautiful and I would love a small bottle. Not a big one as I don’t wear my jasmine soliflores very often. My guess is that you would like it. It’s not as smooth or clean as the By Kilian Jasmine.
This one and Queen of the Night are both really good. I’ve also got a sample of Boronia which I haven’t tried yet.
Thanks! Another brand that sorely needs travel sizes. No way would I buy it, even though the price is relatively reasonable.
They are relatively affordable but I would really only “need” 10 to 20 ml. I was very pleasantly surprised by these 2 as I remember few people were excited by the 2 Magnolia’s. They hired some good noses though.
They now come in 50 ml. They halved the bottle but prices didn’t change much…
I love and own Queen of the Night <3
Me too and J was able to split off a chunk!
it IS very beautiful and a pure jasmine smell and potent and I would LOVE to see it in a SPLIT…..hint hint…..
Ok so where is Donatella, did she leave the building? I was on travel so I couldn’t go to the confessional but I will own up to a moment of weakness and the purchase of DSH’s limited scent (and end of day discount) on a small bottle of LOVE IS EVERYTHING. It sounds amazing – the mango lassi has me twitter pated!
Happy Monday NST’ers.
She is still accepting confessions 🙂
https://nstperfume.com/2019/01/03/the-damage-so-far-fourth-quarter-2018-buying-poll/
Notice some of us were notoriously absent from NST on that day.
*cough cough* 😀
Oh, Donatella noticed!
I was thinking I would love to split some of this but it will have to be a European one for me. Where are you?
state side!! Oh pretty please….It would be loved regularly!
Shipping things to the US is a bit of a nightmare so unfortunately no.
Maybe another NSTer from the US will be inspired by our exchange and host a split 🙂
I like that necklace.
Wearing Ralph Lauren Pure Turquoise from a sample (thunk!) for this week’s theme.
Oh, so it’s a headband, not a necklace.
It’s a headband! (Sorry, got the attribution up a bit late)
And then got my comment up a bit late 😉
🙂
It would work as a necklace.
It is beautiful. Reminds me of a Charlize Theron costume. It’s her color.
Wearing A City On Fire by Imaginary Authors while awaiting my sample of Vetiverissimo by Bruno Fazzolari. ?
Good way to while away the wait!
It is -2 Farenheit today, nostril freezing weather. So I am trying to fool myself into forgetting about that by finishing off a sample vial of Fortune Cookie Soap’s Whale Talk, a fruity summery number that’s not too sweet. (strawberry, black currant, jasmine, grapefruit, avocado)
I like it alright, but not craving any more, I’m perfectly happy to finish it off.
Wow. That’s cold. I dint like it when face goes numb… amusing name for that scent…
Going out to start my car before my hair was completely dry resulted in icicle head. not a cute look
Brrr! Stay warm!
Brrrr! Hot tea and toast for you!
Never seen avocado in a notes list before! Does it come through in the scent?
Eh, not really. It might be what’s dulling the sweetness of the fruity notes so I don’t smell like a Victoria’s Secret but it comes through as kind of fresh-creamy?
Wow! Bundle up if you go out.
Nice and warm at work now! lol
I’m also trying to trick myself into thinking it’s not cold by wearing Bronze Goddess lol.
-2 really is brutal. Glad you made it to work to warm up.
Yikes! -2F is truly nasty and brutal!
Dior Granville. Elegant and refined and a little bit masculine. Makes me feel like George Sand.
Nice!
Nice choice
Elegant, refined, and a little masculine sounds up my alley!
This reminded me a bit of a salve for aching joints and rheumatism. Must be the herbs.
Good morning to Y’all!
I’m having a good time working my way thru some new samples that came my way during Christmas shopping and such……Just now sorting thru ’em. Sampling Prada Candy Sugar Pop, and I have to say I really like it! The apple note lightens and freshens it up…it’s easier to wear than the original Candy. This is a goody!
I’d never heard of Plough Monday! Had to look it up. I guess in the US, we call it “Seed Catalogs Piled High in the Mailbox Monday”. My favorite mail in January! 🙂
Ha! I am planning my garden right now and I have to realize I have only so much room!
Same here! Only so much room, and only so much time! 🙂
I get all these grand ideas, and order way too many seeds that I never have time to actually get started….and on it goes!
I did decide this season to plant only veggies that are more expensive to buy at the grocery store. I mean, why grow jalapenos when they only cost a nickel at the store? I’m gonna focus on heirloom tomatoes and some herbs….
Here I go with the grand ideas right off the bat! 🙂
Right? I really get started on Pinterest with all the small garden ideas and ACK I am only one person!
2) On planting veggies: This is a smart idea- the specialty expensive stuff is usually expensive because it is very tender or hard to transport, so growing them is a good idea. I grew a lot of herbs this past year as an experiment and I am going to carry that forward this year.
The tomatoes were worth it. Collards and Mustards have taken over my front yard (due to bolting) and because it has been relatively mild, I have been harvesting them on and off all year!
Nasturtiums I want to try again. The lettuces were ok but I can get it for cheap at farmer’s market, where they do a better job. Same with purslane.
We grow mostly heirloom tomatoes, beans, broad beans (mostly unknown here in Germany) and pumpkins. Maybe some shallots, as they are quite expensive. And zucchini, but the Striate, which taste much better than the normal ones
My parents grew pumpkins for the grandchildren, I remember clearly the first time I saw a bloom – they are magnificient. They are magical to watch grow.
I was awake during the night for a couple of hours just listening to the rain. Oof. Fortunately not much on my agenda today other than a few errands. Hard to believe that one week ago today we had snow hanging on the tree branches and today we may set a record with the temperature reaching 50.
SotD is Le Labo Labdanum 18. I wore this yesterday too and at one point when my daughter was standing close to me she told me “you smell good,” to which I replied, “I know.” Hehe.
I should point out that I then, of course, thanked her. I’m not really that self absorbed.
That’s exactly how I’d respond if my son complimented me haha.
Lol. I wouldn’t normally respond that way, but with her I can be a little bit “sassy.”?
Same weather here on the other end of the Great Lakes. It’s weird, but I’m making the best of it!
Yeah, it was a pretty big patch of yuck when I checked the radar. Honestly I’d rather have snow and sun than this gray and rain.?
Love LL Labdanum – you smell great!
It is really yummy, isn’t it?! I think it’s sexy as you-know-what too. Shalimar lovers would like it, I think.
Your daughter is correct. You smell great.
Sampling The Hope (named after the Hope Diamond) from Thameen. It’s a very smoothly blended warm spicy scent that should go well with the current freezing temperature outside
You smell lovely! I like several of the the Thameen range, and I don’t see them mentioned very often. Have you tried many others?
Carved Oud came as a free sample with something once but that is the only other one I’ve tried from them. Like The Hope better.
I wore Dior Addict yesterday and it smelled so good I’m repeating it today, to do laundry and some cooking for the week, while it pours rain in very unseasonably warm weather. I love winter and am jealous of those with cold and snow! Mainly because I don’t want January’s snow in April (always the optimist lol.)
I was talking to a co-worker who has family in Cleveland and joked that the weather had been so strange that we (but really I meant Cleveland and not NY/NJ$ may have snow in May!
Ack! I’m in the lower Great Lakes too, last year winter really did stick around into May. But it has been nice to drive on clear roads.
Yes! If only the snow would learn to stay on the grass, it wouldn’t be so bad. The winter from heck. ..2013-2014 we didn’t see pavement for 5 months.
Adding, I still have nightmares over that winter.
BLEAH! That’s bringing back memories of winter in SE Idaho! I have memories of it snowing in June out there sometimes…
My Facebook feed has been full of memories from that winter…it was intense!
It snowed until the third week of April in Montreal last year…
I grew up in Calgary, and have seen snowstorms in every month of the calendar year. The August blizzard while driving home from Model U.N. camp was especially memorable.
Yes, I believe it. Snow has been recorded somewhere in Canada on every day of the calendar. And I believe it started snowing there in October last year.
I love that headband! Too bad I’m full up on tiaras just now… 🙂
SOTD is Ungaro (the original scent in the blue bottle with green top, the actual bottle is probably from the early 90s), and it is SOOOOO amber/musk/soap on me. It smelled divine in the bottle, but I’m not sure I can take this scent on skin.
? As it goes with some of those 90s perfumes. I used to love Diva when it came out but have a similar response to it now. Maybe try applying a micro amount on skin and see how it smells.
That’s a good idea, and would have been a prudent strategy. However, I poured on with abandon this morning (it’s not a spray). 🙁
Haha! It’s easier to just daub a little if it’s a splash bottle. But pour if you must!
A blast from the past, I’ve had an eye on a bottle but can’t decide if I really want it. I bet you smell super good though.
?
Sampling Mona di Orio Dojima on one arm and Santal Nabataea on the other. I think I will spray a bit of Grandiflora Madagascar Jasmine on my chest before going to yoga since austenfan mentioned it above. I have a decant that I haven’t tried yet.
Please report on your Mona samples?
So, the Dojima one was odd, it’s supposed to smell like rice, but it smelled rather synthetic and not much like rice. The Santal Nabataea is a lovely green fresh sandalwood smell. Very pleasant and enjoyable.
Thank you, cazaubon; Nabataea sounds really nice!
Chanel Cuir de Russie
Classy!
Agree with Ede…classy!
I am wearing Lalibella from a travel spray today and plotting to get more. It’s really hitting the spot today.
Lol at “plotting to get more” ??
I don’t usually like some of the notes in Lalibela and it is sweeter than I normally like. Despite all that, I’m really loving it. I will sit on my hands until I can get it with a discount code. Maybe by then, I’ll have changed my mind. ?
Waiting for a discount code sounds rather savvy!
Hello Monday and… glad you’re already over for me 😉
Wore Gallivant Tokyo today and got reminded how pretty it is.
Forgot to mention that I love community project for this week and have a fair amount of ideas how to use it 🙂
I have been meaning to try the Galavant line. Have you tried the others or just Tokyo?
I know the others as well
Kelly C – I have samples of all their scents if you would like to try them. Shoot me an e-mail at payne underscore cm at yahoo if you’d like them. (I bought a full bottle of Brooklyn, and also really like Amsterdam.)
Rain and super windy! I’m wearing Alien leather version. I’m also wearing a full face of my daughter’s make up, because I forgot where I put my make up bag. I’m feeling pretty glamorous ??
At least you had an alternative. I hope you find your makeup bag soon.
The weather has been so weird. It’s freezing today. Yesterday was much warmer.
My short term memory is shot! I used it yesterday, and it wasn’t in its normal spot, so where did I put it? I will check the freezer when I get home. LOL!
I went to the mall to return a scarf I got as a gift and to see if a bag I got at Nordstrom can be repaired (the strap broke). I was horrified that I forgot to wear make-up! I usually just wear foundation to even out skin tone. I did all the prep steps so I didn’t go nekkid. Anyway, no one screamed when they saw me so I think I passed the no make-up face test ???
LOL!
I often go to the store without make up, but never to work, to many people there who like to make comments..
Dude, I don’t have a daughter but I’d LOVE to raid my son’s gf’s makeup bag haha! I have a feeling it’s much more impressive than my own!
My daughter’s collection is pretty nice, but just not my style. Alot of trendy stuff. If I ever have somewhere fancy to go, I’m set!
At least you’re at home and could borrow. One time I left on a 10 day trip and forgot my entire makeup kit – had to replace everything critical on the other end which cost me $200. Boy was I mad. Burned up part of my travel perfume budget on that mistake.
Oh wow! I would have done the same thing. Ten days is nine days to many without make up.
I left my evening routine stuff at home this past vacation but I managed to make do with using some of the day stuff for night.
I did that too. On a trip to Cuba, i realized I left my makeup and moisturizers at home in the bathroom – absolute horror!!
It was a mad dash when we arrived at the Calgary airport to replace what I forgot!
Lurrrrrve your SOTD! Why haven’t I pulled my bottle out yet??? ?
Do it!
Hi All!
And back to grind we go! Return of the 10 hour days- work and classes! LET’S GO.
1) Having been informed that it is actually DRY January and not no buy January, I have been drinking water and herbal teas with dinner.
2) Am in TF Venetian Bergamot- I wanted some seasonal citrus!
3) Interview with LA (public company) Because I did not have too much stock in it, I was very relaxed, and had a great conversation with the people (via Skype). I see it as practice for when in 6 months I leave this position for a new one.
I believe in interviewing often. It helps to network and meet people and as you said, it’s always good practice! I am doing mostly dry January as well, however am getting married the 24th so have a feeling I will have some champagne at least that day.
How exciting and you definitely have to drink champagne on the day.
SQUUEE!
You will deserve that Champagne! Hurray!
You must be so excited. Getting close now!
I’ll drink some champagne in your honor on the 24th!
Yes to champagne! Congratulations!!
In addition to making it my plus size exotic dancer name I might have to lemming a small decant of Grandiflora Madigascar Jasmine after all the love it’s getting here. Jasmine reminds me so much of my beloved India. Thank you for mentioning it!
Still sick today, it’s following the pull of gravity from cranium to sinus to throat to chest. Today I sound like a frog.
Sotd: a little lavender and geranium oil.
Tea: hot ginger lemon and turmeric (I got in India) and raw honey
I once saw a plant called a “Stinking Hellebore” at a botanical garden, and decided that would be my roller derby name, should I ever join a roller derby team.
Hope you feel better. Ginger and lemon always fixes me up when I have a cold.
Hahaha!?
Hope you’re on the mend soon. Also, the “plus size exotic dancer name” made me laugh and laugh.
Thank you. I think the world needs more plus size exotic dancers and a serious overhaul on what is regarded as sexy and beautiful.
Get well soon, love your exotic dancer name 🙂
Heehee
Hope you recover soon. Isn’t it amazing how colds travel? No matter how hard I try, I end up with the deep cough and frogged voice.
Love your dancer name! Thankful I wasn’t in the midst of a sip of tea when I read that.
Thank you. I’ve been staying home, in quarantine. Getting some painting done and eating some delicious greens, grated carrots and blood oranges.
Ooh, I love blood oranges, but we never seem to get them here in San Diego, only in Montreal. Feel better soon!
I was going for the lavender oil and grabbed the jasmine sambac instead!
So today’s scent is swishy voluptuous jasmine
“Swishy voluptuous jasmine” would also be a good exotic dancer name!
Heehee ?
Get well soon, fancy exotic dancer!
Erm wasn’t that a Britney Spears erfume?
SIP’s Epic Gardenia. I need the beautiful gardenia to pick up my mood.
I have the tester vial for that and it is truly wonderful.
What a gorgeous headband! I don’t wear headbands, but I feel I could have made an exception for that one.
I smell beautiful today in Mitzah. No precious jewels or metals in the name, but couldn’t one argue that Mitzah Bricard is herself a precious jewel?
I received some potentially very bad news about my father’s health today. I’m hoping it will turn out not to be a big deal, but he’s not exactly young anymore. I’m trying to figure out how worried to be, but the Internet holds a lot of conflicting information.
I hope all the hype is in the internet only.
My SIL is a nurse. She calls it Dr Google.
I hope it’s not nearly as bad as you think it may be. Hugs.
Me too. Been there.
Good luck Koyel.
Oh I am so sorry Koyel. I’d say ignore the internets, but I know how hard it is when one is worried.
I hope the news turns out to be better than you expect. Agree with others to try not to google.
Adding my hopes for your dad’s health outcome; please try not to let your fingers stray to google —
Hoping for “no big deal” here…
You smell great. Try not to worry while you wait for the actual facts about his health. Hold a nice white aura of hope around your love for him.
Adding my best wishes to your father. I say stay away from google.
Koyel, hang in there! I think you need to wait for more information about your father’s situation, as difficult as that will be. Good luck to you and your father. I hope that the news is positive!
I hope the news is better than expected. And, agree, probably better not to add to the anxiety by doing internet searches. Sending hugs your way!
Fingers crossed, Koyel…
Uck, I know that feeling. Sending energy to you and your dad while you wait to establish exactly what’s going on.
Nothing in my collection really matches the CP *except* Pacifica Breath Taking, which is “infused with rose quartz” so, sure I guess? Anyway, that’s my SOTD.
Oh, that reminds me that the April Aromatics scents contain crystals in the bottles. I guess I could wear Liquid Dreams as part of the CP? The only perfume I have with a precious metal or gem on the name is Amouage Gold. I’m saving that for Friday.
I think it counts!
Yes, and Calling All Angels has flakes of gold and Horkheimer diamonds!
Liquid Dreams is the only AA I have in a FB. With all the others, I only have sample vials, which do not contain the crystals (or the gold flakes).
Bronze Goddess to pretend I am somewhere tropical and not still cold. When you’re excited it’s going to hit 40 degrees, you know it’s been way too cold.
Crazy weekend. Fiance and I decided to throw together a little intimate wedding for January 24th so spent a lot of the day Saturday running around getting some things for that. Then yesterday was my sister’s 40th birthday so spent time with her- though my big present to her will be a trip to New York in March. Had some bad news yesterday also though; one of my aunts passed in her sleep Saturday night. She was very precious to me and so I did cry a lot yesterday. I’m glad knowing she passed peacefully in her sleep, but it was sudden and unexpected so it still hurt when I heard the news. I wish I had called her more. 🙁
So sorry for the loss of your beloved aunt. I hope your memories comfort you. Sending hugs and congratulations for setting a wedding date.
So sorry about your aunt.
And nice work on the wedding. Sometimes the quickly planned ones turn out to be the best as you din’t Have the time to dither.
We are only inviting a few other people, not even our families haha. If I invite my family, who are local, his family will be hurt they weren’t invited and they’d have to fly in from across the country and we just don’t feel like dealing with that. Is that selfish? Regardless, it will be small and just like we want!
I invited no one, only a few friends (who were our witnesses). It was perfect.
So sorry Kelly, hope you can remember the good times, I too lost a beloved aunt last year.
Condolences Kellyc.
*hugs*
I’m so sorry about your aunt KellyC. Hugs.
I’m sorry for your loss KellyC. Hoping your wedding plans go smoothly. It’s very exciting!
So sorry about the loss of your aunt; my condolences to you.
The news about your wedding is very exciting, though, and I’m glad you’ll have that to occupy your thoughts. Did you end up getting the dream dress that you told us about earlier?
I did, but completely changed my mind about what I wanted. I went with a long sleeve, sequin, cocktail length dress haha.
So sorry for your loss KellyC. But congrats on the wedding!
I am so sorry about your aunt, what a shock.
It was. She was not young by any means, but I definitely did not expect it so suddenly.
So sorry for your loss, KellyC. But, congrats on your upcoming wedding! We also did a tiny affair and just didn’t tell a lot of people who might’ve been offended. We basically called it an elopement, lol. It was City Hall and a small dinner at a nice restaurant. My hubs and I stayed at a hotel for the night and that was it. Left us money for stuff we really wanted and needed. Good luck with the prep!
I love it! That’s what we are calling it also haha, an elopement, even though we aren’t going anywhere. We are having it in front of our fireplace at home (we have a big fireplace and I’m going to decorate the mantel etc). We are inviting two couples we are close with and going to a “fancy” diner afterward. We are saving our money for a big honeymoon in Germany/Austria/Switzerland.
Nice honeymoon plans. My husband and I were together for many years before we got married. After we bought our house we eloped to Vermont to get married. It was a whirl wind 3 days.
Oh, sweet! Sounds like an awesome trip! We mostly bought new, nice furniture. We lived together for 15 years before we got married so our furniture was a sad mix of our prior stuff.
That sounds so nice!
(And adding to condolences on the loss of your Aunt, that is hard.)
My condolences on the loss of your aunt, KellyC. The fact that it happened suddenly makes it more painful.
Enjoy your wedding! That occasion definitely calls for a glass of bubbly!
I am so sorry for your loss, my condolences to you and your family.
Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss. Hugs.
I’m very excited for your upcoming wedding and honeymoon. It sounds like you have figured out a perfect plan for what is best for you as a couple.
I’m so very sorry to hear about your Aunt. Sending you hugs.
And congratulations on your upcoming wedding. It will be perfect!
Hi all, my SOTD is Chanel’s Cristalle EDP – I love the honeyed floral notes in this one. 🙂
Oh, honeyed florals, you smell great, it must be the older version of EDP, the newer one is good but very citrussy and now resembles more its flanker Eau Verte.
Oh yeah, this one is from an older bottle, it’s very rich-smelling.
I am near the end of my bottle and I don’t think I’ll repurchase as it’s so greatly changed.
Oh, then I should let you know, when I was lamenting about the change I was told on BdJ that Estee Lauder Private Collection Jasmine White Moss was very like and I found it to be true and promptly got a bottle.
Hmm.. I will have to look for the honey next time I wear it. I get alot of green and earthiness. Love it!
I get a lot of zippy greens from the edt, which is why I love it so!
I’m wearing Tauer Incense Rose today.
Anyone know if Tauer has permanently stopped offering the 3x15ml explorer set? That option seems to be missing from his website.
A friend of mine recently told me that she couldn’t find the explorer set on his website either. Not sure if that means anything permanent.
It’s been missing for a while. I will have to e-mail them and ask. Months ago, I was going to get one but didn’t see it. I am not seeing Noontide Petals on his website. I hope it’s not discontinued.
Yes, Noontide Petals is discontinued unfortunately. I think the explorer sets are too.
How in the hell did I miss that? I don’t read Andy Tauer’s blog or a lot of perfume blogs so much anymore.
He doesn’t usually make announcements when he discontinues things, I found out by accident at an event in Montreal last April and managed to snag one last bottle. This is why I’m planning to have at least one backup of all his scents that I love, just in case.
I found a bottle of Noontide Petals on Amazon for $105 and have a $14 credit on my account. The seller is highly rated but I am still hesitant because of the price. Should I pull the trigger? I don’t want to waste money of what could be a fake. Otherwise, it’s going to be Luckyscent.
The Amazon seller is safe, that is Jeffrey Dame’s distribution company name, Hypoluxe.
Hypoluxe is/was Tauer’s official distributor in the US.
You can email him to ask.
I did email Andy and received the following reply:
“I discontinued the explorer set size. Shipping (for instance to the US) cost me almost 50.-. Handling the different fragrances and the logistics was not easy. Bottomline: a service but not a business.
I hope this helps to understand.”
I do understand, but I’m disappointed.
Oh, ditto — not worth doing for him but larger sizes not worth buying for me 🙁
Woke up late in Shalimar. Made a couple phone calls and about to get into the shower to run a couple errands. My dad is having surgery to reverse something, we just don’t know the time. Talked to Pearl Paradise and talked to them about a custom order that I want to place. I hope that they can do what I would like in sterling silver instead of gold. Gold is a little too expensive for me. After my shower, I will wear vintage BaV. Don’t care if it’s too skanky for public.
High five for not caring if it’s too skanky! Hope your dad’s surgery goes well.
Best wishes for your dad’s surgery!
Best wishes for your dad!
Best of luck with your dad’s surgery and recovery! ?
Enjoying Civet today – I haven’t worn it all winter and I forgot how much I like it!
We had actual cold weather in AZ last week (including snow in Tucson), looking forward to warmer temps this week!
Send some warmer temps to NM!
I saw the blizzard in Albuquerque (via a friend’s Facebook page)! We’re supposed to be back to normal this week & I can’t wait.
Should pull my sample of Civet out of the sample chest… Perfect for winter.
I’m note twins with turbovivi today as I try the Chanel Gardenia parfum in my personal Chanel counter. When I got the set at a swap Gardenia was the bottle that had been used the most but I haven’t worn it yet.
I was wearing Shanghai Lily on Friday and later in the day I was reading and sniffed something. My first thought was that the kitties had knocked over a bottle of shampoo in the bathroom and I was getting up to investigate when I realized the smell was mine. Now I don’t like Shanghai Lily quite so much as I did before.
I always feel a little sad when something ruins a perfume for me. Maybe Shanghai Lily was just not the right scent that day?
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
It is back to work Monday after being away for 2 weeks. So far so good, knock on wood. People who don’t read their emails annoy me. Before leaving for vaaation, Insent an email to a colleague requesting a report, along with an attachment of the previous report I received. My boss responded to it today (with some questions to the person who was supposed to fill the request. Immediately after, I got an email from the person asking if I could send her a copy of the previous report. I had anticipated this which was why Inattached it to the original request! Grrrrr.
In other news, I got my St. Claire sample set. Of course I had to try Casablanca! It was every bit as good as advertised (by CM8). In a strange twist, I happened to have just had food to which I had added a finishing touch of truffle oil. I have to say that The scent of Casablanca meshes very well with that f truffles!
Casablanca is NSFW. Do heed CM8’s caution that a little bit goes a long way!
Mandy Aftel’s Cuir de Garfenia (Parfum), is the bright spring equivalent to Casablanca’s noir.
You smell great, of course. And people not reading their emails is one of my serious pet peeves!
Thank you!
Yes, people who don’t respond to emails, texts, or who are LATE are some of my biggest pet peeves.?
…or people who won’t answer their phone because they know it’s you following up on a late item?
Oh, that’s a big peeve of mine. I used to go through that with my counterparts in another office. I would send them everything tomaction in advance, with all the info. Inevitably, on the day they’d get around to doing the work, I’d get a panicked call looking for the info again.
Or how about providing instructions on how to do something based on a triggering circumstance and when that trigger happens, being asked what to do. I basically just forward the same instructions. It’s not MY work that they are helping me do, it’s THEIR job.
That’s so annoying. And then if you point out that it was attached to the original email, it makes you look b*tchy.
I didn’t find Casablanca skanky, is that why you said it was NSFW?
I decided not to attach the original email because yes. I would come off as b*tchy.
As to Casablanca, I din’t Find it skanky at all (stay far far away from me, Papillon Salome; another planet would be right). It is BEEEG and feral animatic…about 10x more than Iris 39.
Moral of the story…do not respond to comments while being squished inside a train. Anyway, you get my drift, misspellings and all.
Glad you enjoyed Casablanca. I sprayed into a sample vial so I could dab gingerly. My scent devouring skin met its match.
It sure did!
I’m in agreement with other folks who have mentioned people not reading emails, or worse, only skimming them for content, as a peeve! I’m not typing all this stuff out just for grins!
Heh, on the flip side, there was someone who used to report to me who was long-winded in her written responses that I told her I will stop reading after page 1.
Oy vey!!!
First world problems, perfumista edition:
* I split my time between two states, because I love my job (in FL) and my husband (who works in TN). So I commute and work from home 2 weeks per month.
* My bottle of Iris Prima was shipped to my workplace in Florida– but didn’t arrive before I left on Friday like it was supposed to. ARGH! My only bottle purchase in 2018!! I really, really want that bottle but have to wait two weeks.
Thinking of the REAL problems that others have, I realize that this is no big deal. I’m sending good vibes for all of you who are going through real challenges, especially She-ra. I hope that you and your mom are finding peace.
Aww, that is frustrating though! You were really looking forward to that one. But, agree, a dose of perspective is always good ?
That’s frustrating for sure!
Oooops! on the delivery miscue!
Joop Homme today, the last sprays from a 75ml bottle that I’ve bought in 2004. It was my first real perfume I’ve bought and I’ve saved the last drops to only use on special occasions. It’s the perfume my wife remembers on me from when we’ve first met and in the last years I’ve only used it for nostalgic reasons (for her to smell it on me), because I’m over how it smells and I don’t really like it anymore, as I’m a niche snob now 🙂
Well, I still love Joop on my husband, I think you smell great!
Thanks, glad you enjoy it!
I adore Joop both men’s and women’s version
Looks like you will be joining the Thunking Club soon!
Hmmm, don’t know what is Thunking Club 🙂
On the off chance that you are not being facetious, thunking means emptying out perfume whether it be vial, sample atomizer, decant, FB, etc. Some purists exclude perfume for which one has a back-up bottle but I count them all.
Thanks for explaining. I had no idea what it meant as English is not my native language. In fact, I’ve never studied English in school.
Ah ha. It’s actually a made up word for the sound the perfume container makes when it hits the trash can, especially metal trash cans!
Finished a sample of SL Vitriol d´oillet, which was fine in the cold, but i don’t need more of it.
Now sampling some Farfalla Shandrani, which is a natural perfume with white florals, spices and osmanthus. Not disgusting, but nothing to be excited about. Reminds me of a shower gel i once had…..
After some thinking and rethinking i ordered a 40ml bottle of Bulgari Black, as its discontinued and dirt cheap at the moment. A coworker also ordered, so only half the shipping costs!
Good call on Bvlgari Black! I have several BUBs!
It’s my second day back at work after a two week break, yesterday was a bit of a shock, but I seem to be back in the routine already. Today is forecast to be warm, so I’ll wear Chamade, one of my warm weather favourites.
Glad it was a quick adjustment!
Today Habanita which I like more everytime I wear it, but this evening I decided to spray Eau d’Arpege on my hands just because I hadn’t worn it in so long, Habanita is still going strong though and drowning the Ed’A.
Habanita is great, thanks for the reminder to wear it again!
Oh do wear it soon, I find it at its best in winter weather.
I’m wearing SL Sarrasins today. My wee little decant seems to be evaporating. It’s so potent on me that I only wear tiny dabs. Anyway, I’m smelling nice today ?
Sarrasins is lovely. I have a full bottle and need to pull it out. Maybe when it gets a little warmer out.
It is lovely but I can only wear it when it’s cold out. Too sweet for me otherwise.
That is a beauty, a powerful one!
Those little dabs are still going strong!
Glad you are using your Sarrasins! It’s not for the shy, that’s for sure.
I always forget how big it is. I couldn’t imagine full on spraying or lavishly dabbing from a (beautiful, lemmable) bell jar.
I’m feeling au courant in DSH’s Fleuriste. Since fragrances meant for babies and children have now caught on in the US market, I think this one could be included in that genre. It is a soft carnation scent with a touch of jasmine that to me is oddly reminiscent of Johnson & Johnson’s original pink baby lotion. I also had a sudden scent memory flash of Camay soap. Originally I thought it was too innocent and adorable, but now I’m loving it!
Oh goodness, I love the original pink baby lotion and Camay ha! Gonna have to try this.
It’s quite charming!
You smell great! I finished off a travel spray of Flueriste last spring. I enjoyed it thoroughly but I love carnations.
Fleuriste… Pardon the typo…
Thanks – I’m happy to learn that there’s another fan!
Camay! Oh gosh how I loved that soap, with the beautiful lady head. I hated when it would start to mush.
I looked it up after I posted, and learned that people were distraught when it was re-branded and bought it by the case! According to what I read, the original launched in 1926 and that scent was a benchmark for an entire generation. Kinda nice to think of those simpler times when just a few things had such great significance…
+1!
Wow, I haven’t heard mention of Camay soap in what seems like forever!
Searching my long term memory, I came up with 1979
I know! I don’t even recall that anyone I know or knew used it, but whoosh, that memory exists in my brain.
Wearing Chanel Allure today from a bottle that I think was my mom’s, so no idea how old it is. Not great longevity, but I do like it a lot. Not modern.
Waiting for blood work to come back on my little old lady cat (she’s at least 18). She’s light as a feather, so once tests come back we will see. Seems like yesterday (17 years) we brought her home from crouched outside a rest stop near Niagara Falls, where someone had abandoned her. (She was wearing a collar with a phone #)
Random celebrity sighting yesterday as we had late (1 pm) breakfast at a diner. Harry Potter himself quietly walked in, nodded to the lady at the front and quickly sat at the counter, with his back to the rest of the diner. I just happened to be looking at the door as he entered, so doubt anyone else noticed. I have to admit, it was kinda cool. I mean…Harry Potter! (I’m omitting his real name on purpose here…)
Hope the news is not too bad for your dear old lady cat. How cool that you saw Harry Potter!
I do love Happy Potter. The books and movies, that is. Can’t say I know him in real life haha! That’s super cool. And you smell great. My mom will forever be an Allure lady and I’m okay with that because she smells good! Oh and good vibes your way for your kitty!
Oh wow! That’s neat. I went antique shopping with my cousin several years ago. I turned my head to scan the enormous room and noticed Renee Zellweger standing alone about 15 feet away from me. I didn’t expect to see her so I did a double take… The experience felt surreal. I knew her but didn’t recognize her immediately because celeb sightings are rare in my area. Anyway, I went about my business and left her in peace.
Best wishes for your dear old lady cat and her bloodwork!
Best wishes for your little old baby!
That’s a fun siting! I’m really bad at recognizing famous people out of context. I can really only think of 2 that were my own instant recognition: Woody Allen and Wilem Dafoe. My husband is really good at it, though. Even obscure ones. We were walking in the W Village in the Fall and he said about an elderly man walking towards us : “That’s Larry Kramer!” ( of AIDS activism fame in the 80s-90s). Whaaa?! I googled a current photo of him (he’s like 80 something now) and he was right, lol.
I’m oddly good at celebrity sighting. I think it’s that I look at faces. I’ve even had to point out sports figures to my husband, since he rarely notices. I recognized Leo DiCaprio one time years ago when few people noticed him. He was just another guy in a Lakers cap and shorts, talking on a cell phone. Far bigger guy than I expected.
It’s always amusing when you catch their eye. They get this slight frozen look, hoping you won’t react. I just keep moving.
I hope you got good news on your little old lady cat! My celebrity sighting was from a long time ago – Alec Baldwin (unkempt, unshaven) and radiantly beautiful Kim Bassinger at a diner on Madison Avenue! (I don’t count sightings that are work-related.)
She is a stunning woman, although I can’t tell you the last time I saw a picture of her. Exciting sighting!
True…and to add to the ? , my BIL’s niece became AB’s f-buddy but was mistaken for his daughter’s nanny by a colleague (I corrected her).
Omg! ?is right!
Best wishes to your cat. My best celebrity sighting was seeing Tony Hawk eating pancakes in a diner.
I’ve has a slightly upset stomach so need gentle perfume. Suede de suede hits the spot!
Suede de Suede is lovely, hope you feel better soon.
Feel better soon Amy!
Hope you feel better soon!
Hope you feel better, Amy.
I hope your stomach is much better.
Meant to post much earlier and then the day got away from me. I think I’ll be doing silver an 2nd gold perfumes most of the week because I can’t think of any I own that reference jewels. I suppose I could wear from a jewelry designer that also makes perfumes.
I put on the remaining 40% of my sample of Atelier Cologne Silver Iris, and 6 hours later it’s completely gone. I guess that makes it a good perfume for the office though.
Did you like the Silver Iris when it was around?
I do. It’s like not love. I have a small decant from the last swap meet, so I’ll enjoy many sprays at a time from that while I have it.
It’s been a chilly Monday here, and it started to lightly snow around 4pm. The forecast is calling for the possibility of the dreaded “wintry mix” changing over to rain late tonight. Yech! ❄☃?
SOTD = Cuir de Lancome, from the sample stash. Warm and comfort scents needed today. It’s been a Monday for sure.
You smell beautiful! I hope you don’t need to drive in it. It is forecasted to come my way overnight.
Thanks Petunia! No driving in the yuck for me… I think it was supposed to start around midnight. The very light snow showers have stopped. I didn’t even see any accumulation when I looked outside.
Thanks to a lovely Nster, I was finally able to smell Cuir de Lancome. It’s fabulous! Stay safe from the wintery mix! I got it this morning but luckily the temps rose before I had to drive. Snow the next few days here.
Cuir de Lancome is gorgeous! I wish I would have known about it years ago.
Temps are supposed to rise later on where I am, so no worries about the wintry mix for me!
I hope the temperature rises to avoid the wintry mix!
Latest forecast is all rain now in my area. ☔?
Woohoo!
Same here now, but otherwise joining you in the wintry mix dread. Though I’m not fond of cold rain either.
Nevertheless, (and do I need to tell you?) you smelled great today!
Thanks Elisa P! It’s always nice to get a perfume compliment. ?
Oh yeah, a reminder that it’s the last day to get 20% off at DSH with code sparkle2018. I bought three 3ml sprays to try: Eau Cerise, Fleuriste, and Paper White. Not affiliated, just a fan.
Ooh! I love your picks! I hope you’ll share your impressions once you get the chance to try them.
I will! Usually during her sale I buy a bunch of samples, but I really don’t wear from samples very often. I figure I’m much more likely to wear my new things if they are in a sprayer. Which meant getting fewer new scents, but I think it’s a good trade off.
I used to buy dabber samples, then moved onto larger sprays but then realized those evaporate a lot quicker. Of course the issue for me isn’t the method of application but the sheer volume of stuff I have that I never get to! I think that the sprayer versions are a better representation of what I would experience from a bottle, and yep, I too far prefer having fewer new scents that I actually will wear.
My cart items went poof and so I will take that as a sign that it’s ok to sit this one out ?
Happy New Year y’all! We had our 3rd Christmas in Malaga in 4 years, and the first in our own home. The weather was unusually warm, 18-23C by day in the sun, cooler in shade or in the wind and cold by night (but Malaga cold not UK cold). I took 2 weeks off over Christmas & New Years and the blue skies and sunshine were a real tonic. Although perversely I kind of missed the sensation of bundling up against the cold, and there is no room in the apartment fo a Christmas tree, at least not this year.
I enjoyed the Christmas food – local supermarket had 3 aisles of various turrones, plus the seasonal mantecados, hojaldres, roscones and marzipans. I found a place doing a diabetic-friendly ‘roscon de los reyes’, which is basically a big ring of brioche with a whipped cream filling and chunks of candied fruit on top – meant to resemble a royal crown with jewels. Very nice and light, nothing like the traditional Irish christmas cake which is heavy and dark and loaded with fruits and spices and covered in marzipan and royal icing. Buried in the roscon are a dried bean and a little christmas figure; whoever gets the figure is king for the day (there’s a golden cardboard crown to wear) and whoever gets the bean has to pay for the cake. Very similar to the Halowe’en tradition in Ireland where there would be a coin, a dried pea, a button, a matchstick and a ring in the barm brack.
We did not manage to sell the house in England by 2018 year end, so for (substantial) tax reasons we’ll need to go back to the UK for 6 months of 2019, which is a PITA. But, there will be silver linings – people and places and restaurants that we miss and get to appreciate again.
Best wishes for a good year for everyone! :^D
There you are! Lovely to see you here again. Wishing you a Happy New Year and I hope you enjoy your silver linings to the fullest.
That is also like the King Cake tradition during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, only it’s a baby in the cake. Glad that things are getting more settled down for you there in Malaga!
Was thinking of you recently and have missed you! Happy New Year to you! Wishing you luck on selling the house. Are you still traveling alot for work?
Happy New Year to you! Good luck with the UK house this year.
Good to hear from you! In France we call that Galette des Rois, eaten on Epiphany.
Hope you sell the house this year so you don’t have that hanging on for another year.
Happy New Year! Fingers crossed that everything is finalized and sorted out for your move during 2019. I hope you and the other Mr. Koenigsberg are both happy and healthy.
Good to hear from you again K!
Revisiting the two bottles of Chopard in my perfume hoard. Madness and Casmir. Madness, what a silly name, is a contemplative, woody Oriental after you get through all that lovely pink peppercorn and Casmir is a rich vanilla gourmand. Both are great and cheap as chips.
I’ve never smelled Madness, now I want to.
Thanks for the quick review on Madness! I’m looking forward to trying my sample of it much more now.
I got a nice box from Luckyscent today with my big red bottle of T-Rex–hurray! They included some requested April Aromatics samples, so right now I’m trying Pink Wood. It is REALLY similar to Calling All Angels, which I love and recently got a FB of. I’m going to have to do a side-by-side comparison to detect differences. Right now I can really detect the rosewood in Pink Wood. We’re having unusually warm weather in Houston. Today was up to 75. The doors to the porches are open and the cats are out there relaxing. I’ve been watching some old Clint Eastwood movies and working on an article on revisionist Westerns. It’s fun to have a new project like this.
Did you get Irisistible?
No! I’m dying to try it, but they are out of samples.
SotD = Cologne du 68
Wafting Cd68 along with the dregs of last night’s laddm. It works. 😀
Love Zora, love Gerald. Wonderful writers both.
SO EXCITED to read Angela’s review of CB Sweet William. ADORE carnation flowers, mourn the end of my decant of vintage Bellodgia as well as the lack of Roger et Gallet carnation soaps in my life. Sigh. I feel a sample order coming on . . . help!
At least you aren’t blind buying a bottle! ??
Posting late but I enjoyed reading everyone’s comments. Wore Rose Flash today to spice up a dreary day. Can’t wait for my Wowila to come in – the replacement Vanilla Flash already did
I bet Wowilla will smell great layered with Rose Flash. I already tried it with Vanilla Flash. Yum.
Rose Flash is such a jammy, edible rose. I layer it with Incense Flash for a smokey rose.
I wore Hiris for my first day back at work. It was perfect, as always.
Yum, Hiris 🙂
