Thursday scent of the day 12/13

Posted by Robin on 13 December 2018 274 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy Hot Cocoa Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: day 4 of Aftelier Candide.

Reminder: on 12/14, wear a fragrance by Dame Perfumery, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, Divine or DS & Durga, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter D.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

OMG – I can barely handle 5-6 sprays, which is my usual. Usually with Jungle Elephant, I just put two sprays on my arms. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I rarely wear it, but I love it. And a couple of sprays is my max. You smell great!

I started early morning in Symphonies Passion. But that wore off. So I did 10 sprays of Elephant- chest, both sides of wrist s, crook of elbows and lower abdomen. I could not smell it an hour later so I reapplied. When I got to work I was in tight quarters and my own perfume Grinch was standing behind me and said nothing. Believe me, if I was nuclear she would have gone off on me as she did when I wore The Noire29. I asked my friend if she could smell my perfume and she said barely….so I know it’s not just my nose. And yes folks I love this scent?????

Wow! 1 spray of Jungle L’Elephant is killing one of my coworkers today that is sitting two rows behind me in the training room. I cannot even imagine if you were in that room instead of me! But as long as it does not bother anyone around you, just enjoy it!

You know my skin! Nothing sticks. And the fact of the matter is I usually oil my entire body at night AND after my shower in the morning. I didn’t do that last night or this morning so that might explain the disappearing ?

Hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder and hot chocolate is made with chocolate. The instant mixes that are sold are nearly all hot cocoa rather than hot chocolate. People do tend to use the terms somewhat interchangeably though.

I’m wearing Rodin 3 by RODIN Olio Lusso, from a decant received at a recent freebiemeet. Its the first time I’ve tried it. It seems to be a skin scent on me, but it is very pretty.

I had high hopes for Rodin 3 because Bis is one of my top 5 perfume loves. But it didn’t make much of an impression with the couple of dabs I used. Better sprayed, maybe? I’d love to hear more about your impression. It’s one of the specials at Luckyscent right now.

I am having a hard time smelling it at this point. It either fades fast, or does not work with my skin. I don’t know. When I first put it on it was the geranium note that caught me, it smelled almost citrusy, but with a definite floral undertone. Now it just smells, or rather doesn’t smell like anything at all. I will probably troll through my desk fragrances to find something to apply.

I have not thought about Caps for Sale since I was about four years old — an awfully long time ago — and yet the mere mention of it immediately brought some of its illustrations to mind. Been a long time since any light was shined into that dark corner of the memory bank. Thanks for the reminder.

There’s a company in Little Rock called Loblolly Creamery (loblolly is a variety of pine tree). Theirs is really good and you can make it with hot milk or hot water. They have regular and peppermint flavors, and you can get their homemade marshmallows in vanilla, peppermint or bourbon.

I’m in ELDO Rien today, and the dust note (which I assume is actually iris) is very prominent so far. In a good way, really – I think it’s the powderiness that iris sometimes has, but less sweet and cosmetic-y. Still trying to decide if I need a FB.

I tried it recently at Twisted Lily (wanted to smell Hyde which was too much for me, lol). I also remember it being too much for me. I wondered also if it was reformulated and tamer or my tolerance had changed?
It kind of reminds me of TF Ombre Leather in intensity and smell somewhat or a more intense, darker, richer version of Knize 10.

I have already thunked one pot of it and have two more in the wings. I am going to have to sniff this one to see if they are similar next time I’m near a Body Shop.

Are there still Body Shop stores in your area? All the TBS stores that were in my region have closed in recent years. I found one at an airport last year and it was like Christmas morning! lol

The closest one is at a mall in another state and I haven’t been there since last summer. Wondering if it’s still there now. The other option for me would be my next trip to the city but now I am wondering if they closed all the NYC stores too. If you ever try the raw Shea Butter let me know how it compares to your EDT. I will also recommend the goat’s milk and chai and lavender and wildflower and mango..heck, I could probably just recommend the whole line ?

Donna Karan Black Cashmere from a very generous NSTer. I can see why this one gets a lot of love. Wonder why it was discontinued?

Today I need to finish my photo calendars for the grandparents. It’s my mom’s favorite present every year. I’ve been doing them for almost twenty years. Since the days of Kinkos, when I would take real actual photos (!) and have them made into a calendar. Now Shutterfly makes it so easy and it’s fun to spend the better part of the day pouring over all the pictures we’ve taken throughout the year and revisit all the milestones that have happened. It’s a visual reminder that life is pretty good.

Oh, that is a great deal! (I quit drinking soda two years ago though☹️).
I think I have as much fun watching them open it and page through all the months as they do receiving it. So it’s a win-win gift.?

Coke Rewards is where you enter the codes off your caps or cartons, and earn rewards or enter sweepstakes. Just this week, I entered codes for Dunkin’ Donuts, CVS $2 giftcard, a free magazine, and the calendar….

My FIL and parents collect their caps for me, so I usually have quite a few! :)

I doubt DK can find department stores willing to give shelf space to Black Cashmere — it is a great scent that is never going to sell like gangbusters despite its devoted following. If it was a niche scent with alternate distribution, it would probably be considered a success.

Commando right now, but will choose something to put me into a stupor later.

I had DMV overnight my tags to another post office yesterday. FedEx tried to deliver them this morning but the post office was not open yet for the day, and now I have no idea where my tags are.

I stopped at a rare grassy place to let T-Rex potty this morning and as I was headed back to the van some lowlife walked up to me and started trash talking to me, and holy cow! I think I scared him to death, because I let loose a whole lot of pent up anger and some wicked language, and he just about ran away from me!

I felt better after that! ?

I got a nice compliment today, not on my perfume, but on my partnership with another group on a deceptively complex transaction but is really simple when you know the rules. There were several transactions in the past 2 years and each had its own showstopper nuances but we got through them. Yay!

SOTD is Jo Malone Honey and Crocus on one hand (almond play-doh) and MFK Grand Soir on the other. Last night, I wore some Blocki Perfumes This Grand Affair and actually got a compliment from the husband. Will have to get some or swap for some. Now I am wanting hot cocoa myself. Might have to open the peppermint cocoa I have from a company in Little Rock called Loblolly Creamery (loblolly is a variety of pine tree). Theirs is really good and you can make it with hot milk or hot water. They have regular and peppermint flavors, and you can get their homemade marshmallows in vanilla, peppermint or bourbon.

In Stash body lotion but about to top up with something else – not sure what yet, as I have a couple of close contact meetings (my office is small) in an hour. Planning to doing some damage on Fragrancenet in a bit – I asked here a week or so ago re. perfume suggestions for my 11 year old dd, and after much research (it relaxes me to look up perfumes and notes when work is really stressful) I am almost ready to order – too bad I have to round out the order to get to free shipping :) !

I’m wearing Vetiver Tonka today. I was so excited – one of my students was wearing L’Eau no 5 today! She is one excellent-smelling freshman.

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to answer puppy questions yesterday – I was playing with the puppy. Her name is Isa (short for Isadora), she’s 5.5 months old, and she is fabulous. She does love to bark and we’re having some trouble peeing outside, but that’s part of the process.

Oh, puppies! Love them, but there’s a lot to be said for mature dogs that already know the rules.

As far as housebreaking, your two best friends are crate training and scheduled feed times. If you can regulate the “in,” it’s much easier to regulate the “out.” ?

But…I see Hot Cocoa day, so I pulled out my little bottle of Mandorlo Cioccolato by Kyse Perfumes. Haven’t worn this in a long time. I get more orange and chocolate than almond. Reminds me of the orange dark chocolate mocha I had recently.

Diptyque Do Son today, as I ditch work in favor of the beginning of VACATION—a cruise to Mexico! This is probably my favorite tuberose scent; I should’ve worn it during BWF week.

Speaking of Diptyque, you may recall that last week, I mentioned that the boyfriend gave me a beautiful small Diptyque Christmas special edition candle (Amande Exquise). Yesterday, we exchanged presents—more Diptyque candles! A small Sapin de Lumière (another Christmas special), and a large Feu de Bois. Even sealed, they smell spectacular. I can’t wait to get back and burn them. I’m swimming in ridiculously priced candles.

Well, I’ll be off the grid for the next nine days. Have a wonderful winter, friends! I wish you low stress!

SOTD was Papillon Anubis. Whoever mentioned that Luckyscent samples don’t evaporate was right! Last time I wore this I was outside watching the Pope’s motorcade come down 34th st in Manhattan, so at least 3+ years ago? I remember thinking the incense was a good match for the occasion. I only recently found it in a little bag in a bigger bag ? Love it, though!

Oh, forgot already, lol! I didn’t post about it. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the many positive reviews did. And my husband really didn’t like it. I thought the acting was great as were the cinemetography and costumes etc. But I didn’t find the story all that compelling or funny (it’s billed as a dark comedy) and the director has an obsession with sadism and torture. Have you seen The Lobster? Same director. I thought that was more interesting and compelling (albeit very disturbing and hard to watch at some points) than this film. The most sympathetic character to me was Rachel Weisz- I really felt nothing for everyone else. YMMV of course. I may be the odd man out…
If you’ve seen any of these: it’s a cross between The Phantom Thread, Dangerous Liasons, and The Lobster.
Is this a sufficient description, lol?

Oh gosh you guys, work has been really busy and constant the last couple days. Yesterday morning I took over working on a project for my co-worker that had a milestone to be delivered yesterday, so I worked quickly to deliver and did. Phew. I was smelling absolutely amazing in DSH Lush Honey essence oil. It’s not listed on her site anymore, which is crazy because of how many perfumes *are* on her site. Another of my favorites of hers is no longer available, and I am probably going to wear that one tomorrow.

Today I went with D.S. & Durga Freetrapper, which is mostly cedar incense with some smokiness. I really like it.

My other theory (based on experience) is they ask the “yes” people because they don’t feel like dealing with the people who are stubborn and inflexible. I had a prior supervisor tell me this when loading more on my caseload and I asked her to ask the other per diem to take the cases.

Late again today, but things were calm enough today that I didn’t need an incense perfume to keep an even keel.

Elisa P and haujusuuri, you were right. Yesterday’s issue with my mom was “Making a mountain out of a molehill.” I got a text late last night from my brother explaining things. He managed to call her while going to work last night.

Pixel kitty continues to make excellent progress. The other two cats are being buttheads, and hissing at her when she gets too close to them. I didn’t think that Eau de Vet was that long lasting!

SOTD = Ungaro Diva, from the decant stash. I wanted roses today, and this grand rose chypre worked like a charm! ?

Glad that things have hopefully calmed down! I was just thinking that your mom is going through so many changes in such a short period of time, that frustration and even anger sounds totally normal.
Glad you can be less worried today ?
And my cat does that, too! I didn’t know that was a “thing” as my last 2 cats didn’t react that way to each other after vet visits. And only 1 of my current 2 does that- whether she goes to the vet, he goes, or both go. He’s totally chill after, though.

Glad it was just a temporary thing with your mom. It’s good that she has people who care for her and can either be there in person or long distance who can encourage her.

As to the hoist cats, just ask them if they wish to have dental surgery to get extra attention!

I took my mother, brother, and sister-in-law to the Galleria today, mainly to gape at the decorations and store windows. We definitely enjoyed the puppies and kittens in the SPCA windows at Neiman-Marcus. As we walked through the perfume section, Mom’s eye was caught by all the colorful crystal toppers on the Roja Dove display. Their SA was very kind and sprayed us samples of the ones we asked about. Mom liked Danger. I still really love Enslaved. There are really a lot of them and in different sizes, etc. Kind of interesting. In the end all I bought was some good comfortable shoes (Ecco) at another store, but we all had fun looking. Enslaved has one note that just makes me salivate, and right now I’m wondering if it might be the peach?
