Happy Monday and happy Human Rights Day. Birthdays: Ada Lovelace, Emily Dickinson, Cornelia Funke. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am commando for some morning errands. Plan for the afternoon: jasmine, via my latest splurge, Aftelier Candide.
Reminder: on 12/14, wear a fragrance by Dame Perfumery, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, Divine or DS & Durga, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter D.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is detail from Watercolour portrait of Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, circa 1840, possibly by Alfred Edward Chalon via Wikimedia Commons.
I’m starting my personal project of trying some of my samples for the first time. First up is Gold Knight by Killian. Started with patchouli and honey. So far I like it.
I really, really like Gold Knight, as well as Woman in Gold. You smell terrific.
Good morning Y’all…..I was gonna complain about 3 days of endless rain, but then again, it could have been snow and ice. I’ll take the rain anyday!
I’ve been wearing Givenchy Ysatis all weekend, and again today….it might even be replacing No 5 Eau Premiere as my all time favorite scent. What a masterpiece! Another Dominique Ropion gift to the world….
That’s my sister’s signature perfume. It smells eautiful on her and I am sure on you too, but unfortunately I cannot wear it. It is indeed a masterpiece!
You smell great. I drained several bottles back in the 80s.
That’s a good one! So rich and lasts forever on me.
After brownie day, I’m still on a chocolate bender. SL Borneo.
yum…chocolate anything is great
Dame New Musk…thunk. The last couple mls of my travel spray had gotten cloudy. Still smells like it did previously. Does anyone know why that happens??
It might have gotten very concentrated? So not everything is staying in solution? There’s only so much oil that can stay dissolved in ethanol/water.
Being too lazy, I have too much to do to hang out on the internet (but yelling at myself to get motivated does nothing, sadly.) I’m going to try layering DSH American Beauty w/a bit of Kiehl’s Musk when I finally move off the couch.
Sounds like a great combo! I love Kiehl’s Musk so much that I recently upgraded from a decant to an FB.
Isn’t it great? Probably my favorite straight up musk perfume and it layers so well. This combination with the rose is lovely!
Happy Monday, all. At work early for big meetings and happily wearing a bit of Reglisse Noire (not as happy about the meetings, but you can’t have everything).
Did you hear that 1000 Flowers ( who makes RN) has just launched a new scent?
No, I didn’t! *runs to Google it*
Can’t find anything – do you have a link? Thx.
This is what I found that is brand new and I want it!!!!
Thank you, CM8!
It’s an Amber but she might only be selling it at her store in Grasses for the holidays.
and I forgot to say that you smell great …you know how much I love that one!
Hallo! In Floris Malmaison.
Oooo I bet you smell amazing.
Have you ever tried DSH Oeillets Rouges? Does it smell at all like Malmaison?
I haven’t! This whole carnation thing is pretty new to me, though after trying this I’m interested.
You smell carnation great, I’ll have to pull mine out of the cupboard soon.
Prada Purple Rain! Thunk! I was shocked when yesterday I found that the large decant had evaporated almost 90% in a matter of a year. So frustrating! I need to stop hoarding my decants and samples and start wearing and thunking them quickly before evaporation kills them all. Such a beautiful and easy to wear iris, vetiver fragrance. I will miss it and hope a full bottle joins my collection some day…
Wow-90%!?that’s terrible. Glad you got one more wear in before it was completely gone!
This is the first time I experienced such a bad evaporation! I don’t know why but it was pretty scary!
Wow, that’s alot so fast! Dang it!
Really upsetting! So much juice and money wasted!
I’ve noticed that Sephora samples evaporate within a few months, so better to go ahead and use ’em up fast. Luckyscent samples last for YEARS, so I can enjoy them over time…..
I hate when a decant goes though….that’s a lot more ‘fume to lose!
I have also noticed that Luckyscent samples last forever. I checked some that I have had for years and they still smell good and zero evaporation!
Yes, I agree, my LS samples are little treasures that seem to last!
Those will be the last to use. I am not worried at all about them!
Oof, that’s a big loss. Sorry! The fear of evaporating/spoiling decants/samples has made me preferentially use spray decants/samples over my full bottles. That’s a little sad, because my FBs are my favorites. I haven’t quite reconciled these competing factors yet.
I know! It is very difficult when you have your full bottles that you adore, but at the same time hundreds of samples and decants that are disappearing and you would also love to wear. If I only wear samples and decants I will neglect my full bottles for years and I am also scare to find out one of these days that my full bottles are also evaporating. Not enough time to cover everything
Agreed. Maybe it’s for the best that I’m on a no-buy. I mean–I’m sure it is for the best.
Supporting your no-buy! I did much better with my perfume shopping this year and I have had some time to use more what I already have. I am committed to no-shopping at all next year and I hope to make a dent in my collection! Let’s see how it goes!
I feel like the minute I say “no-buy,” I immediately want things. (My immature reaction, I’m sure.) But I’m in for a low-buy. I’ve only spent $250 this year and sticking to my budget of $300. Including samples. It’s been fun and forced me to prioritize.
I’ve been using Robin’s system of adding things to a wishlist where they have to live for a while prior to making acquisition. Most times they just stay there or get deleted.
A full year’s no-buy! That’s admirable We can support each other!
Let’s do it! ?
So true. I’ve started giving away my decants and samples so I can concentrate on my full bottles. There’s only so much you can wear. And I would like to join a 2019 no-buy group.
It would be nice to join a no-buy group the same way some of us here join the thunking club this year. At least until we reduce some the unbeliable amount of perfume that is stopping us from enjoy what we have. Crazy! We can support each other as usual! I am ready for it!
I’m in! I am also planning a no-buy for 2019. I’ve decided anything I want that badly, I will still want in 2020 and probably enjoy more for having waited. (Although I have a little escape clause for estate sales and if Slumberhouse ever does one of their limited-edition revivals of Vikt.)
I am draining some of the decants
I will join all of you in thunkings and no buys.
Can I join the 2019 no-buy club? I need to take a serious break from acquiring and just start enjoying.
A no-buy club combined with a sample / decant exchange or traveling box would be fun, too!
Keep thunkin’ my friend!
I will! ?
Gah! That sucks about your decant.
Very sad! Hope my full bottles do not experience much evaporation
Wearing Eiderantler by January Scent Project ( John Biebel). Def. a small brand, but can’t fit the letter D in there
How do you like it? I find these pretty interesting except the one really milky one that I can’t wear.
Eiderantler wears as very stately fougere on me. Perfect for the days when you want to smell classy . I love everything I have tried from this brand. The milky one ( Selperniku) is glorious on my skin. The only one I can’t wear is Vaporocindro, as cumin and I have a tense relationship.
LOl! I feel the same about cumin. I do like Rose 31, though, even though I’m aware of the cumin in it. It’s just well blended, I guess.
Robin, I bet you smell fabulous.
I’m in I’m Home from LUSH, in a “sample” made for me by the kind but confused SA I encountered at the shop yesterday, who sprayed some scent on a cotton pad and sealed it in a little LUSH sample tub. After complaining about not having any chocolate scents this weekend, this smells like the perfect scent to fill the chocolate-sized hole in my line-up.
The boyfriend and I begin our vacation on Thursday, so this weekend, we opened our stockings. He got me a Diptyque candle!!! It is one of the Christmas ones, Amande something. It’s soooooo beautiful and comes with a stunningly beautiful gilt little booklet containing stories. They also gave him a little bag of perfume and skincare samples, which was nice because he previously got me some Jo Malone body products and came back with ZERO samples, which made me sad. Oh well, I’ve always liked Diptyque better anyway. Looking forward to burning it soon!
Just a random comment that Ummagumma is chocolate incense to me and one of the few chocolatey perfumes I like. And I love it.
I should have loved Ummagumma, based on the notes! But instead it just gives me a terrible headache This is much more my speed.
Oh no! What a bummer! A whole range of things people love give me a headache. Glad you found something that works for the chocolate craving!
What a lovely present, and how nice you’re on vacation soon!
I got a sample of Diptyque’s L’Ombre dans L’Eau body lotion, and am having the hardest time not buying it. I don’t need it, I already have the fragrance, but that is a lovely lotion!
Uh oh, I didn’t know they HAD a l’Ombre dans l’Eau body lotion. I bet it’s lovely.
Speaking from personal experience, I think that the lotion smells better than the perfume.
It’s pretty darned nice.
I was so looking forward to wearin all my Divines this week, that I promptly forgot all about the CP this morning and am wearing MFK Oud instead. I can’t make up my mind about this one. I had expected it to smell a lot different. It’s very light, for an oud. Not unpleasant, but diffent somehow.
Will be wearing Divines for the rest of the week.
Aren’t there four different MFK oud scents? Which one are you wearing?
There are even more than 4 I think. I’m wearing the original Oud in EDP.
Ah, I guess I’m thinking of the out moods.
I’m guessing that you must be. I’ve since checked on their website and the ouds are:
Oud, edp and extrait
Oud Satin Mood, edp and extrait
Oud Velvet Mood, extrait
Oud Cashmere Mood, extrait
Oud Silk Mood, edp and extrait
A whole bunch of Ouds!
Good morning I am wearing Chanell Cuir de Russie and drinking Earl Grey tea.
Chanel Cuir de Russie is what I meant to type.
Beautiful! One of my all time favorites.
Smelling great Barqs!
In Ylang 49—this week’s CP is going to be tough for me. Unless otherwise inspired, I am planning on wearing Chincilla on Friday, my only FB from the project list. I might have one or two samples by DSH floating around, but none of the others.
In other news, our kitten is out of his mind with happiness that we brought inside, of all things, a real live, pine needle covered tree. And if that seemed like the most amazing thing, we managed to top it by filling the tree with what can only be described as delectably shiny and sharp cat toys.
We are taking bets on how long our Christmas tree will stay vertical.
Ha! We are debating whether to chance a Christmas tree with our two cats, who although they are four and should know better, likely don’t!
We keep our Christmas tree on the balcony for this reason. I did walk past a house the other day with what looked like a real Christmas tree that was still vertical and intact, and also a beautiful, fluffy cat in the window, so apparently some cats are not little devils.
Oh crumbs. Meant also to wish everyone a thoughtful Human Rights Day. Today is also the close of 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence, which doesn’t mean much here in the US but elsewhere in the world marks the 16 days between November 5, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and today.
And just to extend my American-centricity one more moment and our role in International Human Rights Day…. Reflecting on the Civil Rights movement, in 1961 Eleanor Roosevelt had this wish for America: “It seems to me that America’s objective today should be to try to make herself the best possible mirror of democracy that she can.” Amen.
Oh, Amen and Amen again.
It brought a smile to my face, picturing the kitten. Yep, Christmas if for cats too
I am betting that the tree has at least teetered, if not toppled, by the time you read this post. And/or the kitty has had to have something sharp removed from some kitty-body part.
My parents got two kittens right before Christmas and they were so light that the tree did not topple that year. However, the next year and every year after were disasters.
We used to tie our tree to the wall with fishing line, that way at least the whole thing wouldn’t go over. Still lose ornaments, though!
I’m loving everyone’s stories about cats & Xmas trees!
Ok, I don’t know if I need advice or just an opportunity to rant to the friendly. Yesterday I was supposed to go to a small family member’s birthday party. (She’s a toddler.) My BIL and his mother are “very sensitive” to perfume. (I don’t know what this means exactly or what the effects are on them, as they have never told me.) As I result, I *never* wear perfume around them and *always* take a shower before seeing them, just to be sure there is no stray ‘fumes. And yet, just about every time I am to see them, including yesterday, I get a text from my SIL (his wife) asking me not to wear perfume because of how “sensitive” they are. She is clearly writing at his request and she is *very* nice about it, but the situation infuriates me. I have been accommodating this issue for about five years now and am always compliant. Last time I went to their house, I realized a winter scarf was perfumey and apologized profusely and tucked it away from the group. But still, I get these texts.
I wasn’t feeling great yesterday, but probably still would have tried to go to see the kids. Instead I stayed home and read Emily Dickinson, as it turns out, which made me happy. But today I am still furious. I wrote back politely that I never wear perfume when I go over there and it must be on my clothes and I am so sorry — but this isn’t really how I feel.
So, I know there is no advice to give as I write this. Really I just have to be super vigilant and suck it up. But I find the entire thing really upsetting and insulting in ways I can’t quite get a handle on. Oof.
So today wearing Cuir Ottoman and smelling myself happily.
Thanks for putting up with the rant!
Oh gosh. How frustrating and annoying, especially considering the lengths you go to accommodate. I’m sorry. The fact that it’s family makes it worse because you can’t just call it a day on the high maintenance relationship. Such a bummer you have to deal with this. Hopefully it’s not too often that you do. Feeling for you!
Yeah, if it weren’t for the smalls I wouldn’t care so much, but I do like to see them!
I should also admit up front there are clearly other issues involved for all players!
Is it possible that you’re misinterpreting the text? It sounds like you think they are saying you DO wear perfume around them; perhaps they’re just reminding you not to because they’ve had other experiences with people forgetting?
I don’t think I need to be reminded every time I see them to be honest. And if that was the intention, it would be helpful for it to be stated. But you are more patient than me!
Oops I wrote an additional reply to the wrong person! Just that there are obviously other issues involved for me and everyone else involved!
Feeling totally irritated on your behalf. There are completely infuriating things that in-laws do that you cannot ask them to stop doing, such as sending so many texts asking repeatedly that you not wear perfume (I agree that even “polite’ texts/reminders transgress into rude/judginess when they are sent too often). Imagine if you could politely text them that you yourself are sensitive–extremely sensitive to too many texts telling you the same thing. When you get too many, you have a painful and long-lasting allergic reaction (including symptoms of raised blood pressure, irritability, and antisocial ideation).
Ha! Thanks for the sympathy!
Ha! Oh gosh I hope Amy sends this text.
Maybe the next time you are going to be around them, you can text your SIL a day or two prior something like “Wanted to save you a text and let you know I’m totally on board for not wearing any perfume on xxday. Looking forward to seeing you.”
ooh, lovely idea!
But see, that would be seen as an act of aggression in this situation. That is the bind. Ah well, I just need to grin and go with it.
You are too kind, I think; if I were you, I don’t think I could resist a text in line with the suggestions of therabbitsflower or Oakland Fresca. If I sent trf’s text, I wouldn’t even feel badly about it afterwards.
Sorry for your frustrating situation. It sounds like your efforts to accommodate are being completely ignored.
Actually I have sort of jokingly say “don’t worry, no perfume!” to nip it in the bud, but I get a weird grimace. I think BIL just sees me and *thinks* he smells perfume, but who knows! And SIL is embarrassed by the whole situation, so I feel badly for her.
Aww damn that’s no good. It sounds like an impossible situation. I’d be worried that if I got frustrated by those texts and bottled it up that if the topic ever came up in person, I’d explode and say things very bluntly.
It sure is annoying that BIL sends SIL to do his dirty work of reminding you to avoid perfume!
Right? This really bugs me too. Oh well, you all are cheering me up!
You did the right thing to stay home, that’s what I would have done. What do these people do IRL: on the subway, at the theater, everywhere, they can’t complain then.
Yeah, this is one of my big questions. Actually, I don’t think that they really go into the world much to be honest. It’s all pretty crazy.
Well, because they’re family, they are adept at pushing your buttons, as evidenced by your continuing anger. So, I think you have two options:
1) tell them to quit texting you asking you to not do the things that you aren’t doing anyway.
2) wear whatever perfume you want and to hell with it.
Sorry, I’m not too accommodating with game players. Either way, they should shut up.
Good thing I don’t have family, right? ?
Deva, we posted at the same time, with totally different tactics, I love it!?
Lillyjo, you adult so much better than I do! I bow down before your maturity, sensitivity, and cooperative nature. ✌?
Thanks for the compliment, but really instead of going through, or over something, I’ve learned to try and just get around it. I don’t even take the highway, just back roads! Lol! I,in return, bow down to you?
I too have been laughing with Lillyjo about the wildly different tactics people are suggesting. It’s cheering me up.
I’m with you, Deva! Let’s see how sensitive you are to THIS!
A woman after my own heart. I have a low tolerance for passive-aggressive games.
Well, here’s me chiming in… the next time you are together, I would take the bil aside, and say… I want you to know I respect your health issues. I am not wearing any perfume, I’ve washed my clothes , my hair, and body in unscented products, I am not wearing any deoderant. I love seeing you and the children and am committed to being scent free around you. I would kill em with kindness, sincerity and honesty. If he’s still butt, id burst into tears and beg him to find a solution for the sake of the family, and hope he feels dumb?
*They* don’t use unscented products!!! And if I told him I wasn’t wearing deodorant he’d die! But yeah, killing with kindness is definitely the way to go!
The deodorant comment(s) made me giggle!
How about designing a really cool T Shirt with images of perfume bottles with the words “It’s OK. I’m NOT wearing perfume” and wear that next time you go around. Make it really cool design-wise and kind of fun rather than passive aggressive. They will get the message and leave you alone.
Oh goodness! Lol this!
Arg, family. Isn’t it aggravating to have to be the responsible adult in the family???
I have a dear friend who maintains that she is ‘allergic to perfume’. She seems to be utterly unaware that there is ‘perfume’ in her shampoo, soap, detergent, dryer sheets. And her daughter’s perfume is fine because it’s “fresh”. Mine, on the other hand, is apparently not fine, so I end up just not wearing perfume around her. Bah.
Oof that’s bad. How irritating!
I don’t think I would have been polite, after all those texts. I would have written back that I am well aware of the situation and don’t require reminders at each event. And if I continued to receive texts there would be a phone call with firm words.
What I find odd is that it’s the SIL tasked with emailing, even though it’s the BIL and his mother with the issue. They don’t have hands and can’t type themselves? And one would hope they send that reminder to all rather than just you if they’re that sensitive. (And I had a friend once who was that sensitive,…)
I wouldn’t exactly be nice to them about this. Tell them that their shampoo, soap and lotions are full of perfume so they can’t exactly claim to be that allergic. You can tell them that you don’t have time for passive aggressive texts like that and not to do it ever again.
Oh, dear. Passive aggressive humiliation games. Sounds like they’re ruminating quite a bit about this when you’re not there. That in itself is sad.
But, I agree that it’s fine to say something. I’d probably say that I have already been informed and am well aware of your needs and do my utmost to respect them, but I’m asking you to return that respect by not sending me a reminder every time since it feels humiliating to me and I’m sure that that you don’t want me to feel that way (?)
This gets at it exactly Elisa P. It is weirdly humiliating.
It’s totally humiliating! I can’t imagine that they think you just don’t remember and *need* a reminder everytime. In fact I suspect it’s not about perfume at all and some crap is just getting projected on to you. Anyway, enough of my amateur psychoanalysis, lol. You have every right to maintain your self respect. And if done directly, but politely, you’ve done no harm, and in fact are displaying self-love ?
Maybe they need to look at others- laundry soap, shampoo, hand lotion that any of the other guests have one. Everything has scent to it these days, do they send this text to all their guests?
That’s so funny you mention this. My *husband* often wears fragrance but he doesn’t get the text. I think I do because I talk about liking perfume!
Hmm … you could start talking about how your husband likes wearing scent and see whether he starts getting texts too.
I would get your husband to douse himself in Drakkar Noir the next time you see them! What’s their reaction going to be in that case?
Oh! Yes – this is a MUCH better idea. LOL!
Bletch! That does sound like some head games being played. I have a friend who has become fed up with some of his in-laws antics and is bowing out from future holiday get togethers.
I totally feel your pain.
My BIL is a perfume phobe poseur. He rolls down the window when he “detects” my perfume. I think I’ve relayed how I put him in his place. I once uncapped a scented hand cream and he twitched and told me that it smelled and to please not wear it next time (who doesn’t like the smell of Weleda Skin Food?). The next time we got together, I made a big production of uncapping unscented hand cream and my brother in law started to protest. I asked him what he smelled and he pointed to the hand cream tube. I told him it was unscented and he had no choice but to keep his mouth shut.
Nowadays, my sister calls and/or texts me to say not to wear strong perfume whenever I get together with them. I’ve learned not to re-up on perfume before leaving my house. I also try to wear more gourmand perfumes although with a lot of restraint.
My mom, on the other hand, just says I am killing her.
I think I would suggest that he has some sort of psychological issue – a strange phobia that he might want to investigate with a therapist- since he imagined smelling an unscented product. I might even go so far as finding him the name of a good therapist and give it to him in a solicitous but public way.
I have enough DSH samples that I could probably do a month without repeating. Today I am in Fumee d’Or which I actually have a bottle of and which is wonderful in cold weather
I also think I could do a month of DSH based on samples. I have a number of D.S. & Durga too.
I plan to bring out the Divines later this week, too, as someone else has mentioned, but today I went with something soft and powdery, PG Poudre se Riz. It felt right on a cold foggy day.
That’s a good one. I don’t like the opening but love the dry down.
Wearing DSH Fleurs d’Oranger for the CP today. I’ve been thinking of wearing it ever since I made up a decant pack of orange blossom perfumes for another NSTer. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough of this one to share, but I kept it pit l out to wear soon and today’s the day. It’s in the little dram flask that she uses. I think it’s a quite classical OB perfume so that it almost smells vintage. My perfume-sensitive coworker is staying home sick, so I can probably get away with reapplying some dabs in the bathroom.
That sounds lovely, I need to dig through my DSH samples and see if I have one!
I started by wearing yet unnamed perfume by Pissara Umavijani of Parfums Dusita. She’s going to launch it in 2019 but she let people have samples & organized a naming competition.
It’s a poudree, sweet violet-iris concoction.
Which name would you give the”unnamed” perfume?
My suggestion was Reve d’Aurore.
Mine was Purple Prose
And how do you like it? I love violet and iris and so am excited.
it smells a bit like those powder violet candies with nice buttery/rooty depth given by the iris note.
Can’t wait for it to be named and available!
It sounds like a treat!
In a mellow cloud of Stash Body Lotion which I rediscovered last week – at least it feels mellow to me, but I might be fuming up the whole place for all I know (last time I wore it, I layered it with a tiny spritz of the perfume as well and the kids complained when they got into the car hours after application….). Happy Monday!
You smell great even if you are fuming up the whole place!
Enjoy your latest splurge, Robin.
I wanted something super cheerful for a grey Monday so I’m wearing vintage Nirmala, the ancestor of today’s fruitchoulies including Angel.
There were at least 2 Nirmalas, the second a copy of Angel, not vice versa.
Mugler sued in Europe.
Thanks, Bear. I am in the dark as to which one I have, but it’s old, in its box with a little scented cushion.
These reviews reveal more of the history.
The first one was released in the 1950s and was the signature scent of Theirry Mugler’s mother which inspired him for his Angel…I only know this because I had a good friend who was an Angel fiend and she once sent me a decant of Nirmala (current version)..it really does smell similar to Angel. So Aurora, it sounds like you might have the one that Angel was copied or inspired from.
Thank you so much for the info. Those first impressions as a child stay imprinted in our olfactive memory.
It is making me very happy, thanks
I seem to be rather lacking in small perfume houses starting with D, I don’t think Dior quite fits And as Miss Dior is the only Dior I have, I’ll save that for Friday.
I’m planning to wear a pink dress today, with a foxglove pattern, and I’ve realised I have no idea if foxgloves have a scent. I’ve decided to wear Jean Patou’s 1000, which is a very definite floral.
I don’t think they have much scent at all.
Taking my inspiration from PriscillaE, who reminded me about Gold Knight. I dug up my decant and am now nicely aromatic.
I love borrowing my sotd from someone else in comments
Mmmm, smellin’ like a million bucks!
I’m in Arpège, nice for this clear, cold, cloudless day. I hope everyone has a lovely Monday!
Hope you did too!
I’m in ELDO Fils de Dieu because it’s cheerful and optimistic. ✌?
In my top 5 for sure! The best ELDO too!
Yes it is! It’s also one of the perfect tropical scents for this time of year.
Deva, have you tried CdG Sticky Cake?
Hi NST! I’m back in CK Reveal today. It hums along nicely in the background while I tend to the many work tasks that must be done before the holidays.
Actually, being busy is a welcome distraction from an extremely upsetting incident in my bf’s family that blew up over the weekend. The worst part is there are two very young kids in the middle of the whole mess.
My heart goes out to everyone dealing with stressful family situations this holiday season. My coping strategy is yoga. The small bit of good news from this weekend is that I went to a yoga workshop on Saturday and got into some fairly advanced poses that I didn’t even know I could do. Can’t wait to get home and hit the mat!
Oh I am so sorry about the family situation. Always bad and stressful and this time of year just makes everything worse for so many people. Yoga as much of it away as you can!
I’m so sorry about the family thing! We had that one year at Thanksgivng. Upsetting, especially to kids.
I had an upsetting weekend too, and yoga really does help. Congrats on your impressive poses!
Yay to accomplishing challenging poses!
Sending energy to all of you! For me, the worst thing is that when I really need yoga, it’s extremely difficult to get the time or peace to practice.
Ugh, what a bummer, having something like that blow up. This time of year is stressful enough without any unwelcome additions.
So sorry about the BF’s family situation.
I have to comment on Ada’s picture. She looks so incredibly like her father, Lord Byron, it’s uncanny.
An amazing woman, eh?
She sure was.
Sotd is Prada Candy Kiss. A male customer walked passed me, turned around and said, hey you smell good, lol, yes I do! I’m sorry to all my friends here getting all that snow. Hope it goes away soon!
Nice on the compliment!
Yay for a compliment. You smell great!
Wow on getting a perfume compliment!
The guy has good taste and so do you!
I started a drastic purge of my samples and decants over the weekend. Most of them had been sorted alphabetically by perfume name in small boxes, but I decided to sort them this time by brand and to keep only the brands that were important to me—everything from Arquiste to Zoologist but goodby to Demeter and Masque Milano. It has nothing to do with quality, just personal taste. My cleaning lady will get a few hundred by the time I’m done. I’m not sure why this sort makes more sense to me, but I hope it means I’ll dip into Guerlain and Le Labo more frequently.
SOTD is Hothouse by Smell Bent, which made the cut.
I gave a big bag of samples to a coworker this morning…..she was thrilled, and I was happy to pass ’em along because I know she’ll enjoy them!
Too many samples, not enough opportunities to wear ’em!
I’ve been adding a sample to my bath water each morning. Fragrant and reducing the sample stash! (I read the idea here. I think in an article by Angela?)
If I were of a mind to organize my samples and decants, I would do it exactly as you did by house. Anything vintage will be grouped separately as vintage.
I remember learning Ada (computer language named in her honor) in college. She was awesome
I’m gonna be a complete fail on the CP this week. The Dames I own are all summer scents. Ditto for the one DS I own. And my DSH’s are all spring scents. Ah well.
SOTD is And The World Is Yours. Rich, rich, rich honeyed orange blossom. Definitely not my usual thing but I am enjoying it on this chilly day! I think it would kill me in warm weather though. We’ll save this one for winter.
…just checked my bookshelves and I still have that textbook on Ada
And the World is Yours is just beautiful…..and definitely a cold weather scent for me too. You smell elegant and really good!
Back from holiday. It pelted with rain for 4 days and everyone got really sick except for me ( cleaning vomit at 2am) Hurray! Great place though and lots of wild beaches, seals, no carnivorous snails (boo) and read three books, mostly duds. The roadsides were a mass of lupins which smell of a combination of clover and daffodils. The world needs a lupin perfume!
Disaster with a blind buy. 1997, oof. Not for me but at least I now know what palo santo smells like.
Wearing Debaser and wondering if I can put off Christmas shopping for another week? I think ‘Yes’ .
Ick, sorry about the sick rainy vacation. I also bought 1997 and swapped it away already, discovered I do not like Palo Santo oil in large doses. It’s good when well-blended homeopathic doses, such as Carner Barcelona Palo Santo.
Ha! Homeopathic is right. No Palo Santo was harmed in the making of CB Palo Santo (I didn’t smell any). I like burning the wood outside in the summer but don’t enjoy wearing it either. Too minty for me.
I just remembered there’s one other Palo Santo scent I like, DSH Become the Shaman. It does have noticeable palo santo in it, but does not knock you out. I prefer the burning wood too most of the time.
Sounds miserable, but glad you were spared and got to have some enjoyable time. You smelled great today!
Ooof. That sounds like a rough time all around.
Continuing last week tuberose and gardenia project. SOTD is Fracas.
You are smelling fantastic today.
This is tuberose on steroids.
Beating my head against the wall. Yesterday, I pretty much finished Christmas shopping and paid some bills. No big deal, right? Wrong, the puppy has a tear on her belly right by her leg. So it was surgery because the tear was fairly large. My vet said that the final bill is slightly over $300. I don’t have credit cards anymore and I don’t have the $300. My family is figuring out how to split the bill. Went to the vet this morning since we talked to our vet last night and said to bring her over and that’s what we did this morning. I wore Apres L’Ondee and it’s now faded and I don’t know what to wear right now.
Hopes everything gets solved quick for your puppy and you. Sending healing and positive vibes!
So sorry, Dawn. That’s stressful. Hope your pup is alright, though!
Oh what a drag! I am so sorry.
So sorry for your poor puppy. At least your family is willing to help you with the expense. I hope the puppy heals well.
Sorry to hear about the unexpected vet bill. The emergency vets here take CareCredit, not sure if yours does. It’s like a credit card but just for vet bills.
I’m sorry for the unplanned stress. Sending healing vibes to your pup!
Oh no! So sorry to hear about the puppy emergency! Propers to your family for offering to help out in a very stressful situation. Hoping that everything works out.
Sending healing vibes to the the pupster!
Oh Dawn, I’m sorry, what bad luck for the puppy and poor you with the bill, especially at this time of year. Hurray for family coming to the rescue.
While there are Dames floating around the house and in the basement I am continuing on my use the decants before they disappear project so MdO OUd again because this stuff is gorgeous.
Glad you are enjoying it. I hate to see decants go to waste.
you already know that nothing goes to waste chez Marzipan
Late today, busy day! I wore SL Clair de Musc because we had an office holiday breakfast and I thought this was low key and inoffensive. Not sure why I think my office might be scent intolerant (I don’t actually work in said office). My boss was wearing Coco Mad, another colleague Jessica McClintock (her signature), a third Narciso Rodriguez for Her, and the one guy, some Versace scent which had the most sillage of all. Yes, I asked everyone I could smell what they were wearing ?
Excellent! Next time you can turn up in whatever you like.
Yeah, it’s The Bronx. They’re not too uptight up there, lol. Junk food, bacon, sausage, sugar and more sugar, cussing, and perfume. Refreshing for a change!
That sounds like an awesome place to work!
That sounds like a great smelling office!
Your co-workers smell a whole lot better than the potpourri I smelled on someone today!
SOTD was Felanilla for a fun Monday off from work.
Nice! Both the day off and Felanilla! ??
It was! I did some errands and had lunch with friends.
Hurray for a free Monday!
Busy day today, so I’m posting a little later than usual.
Still getting good progress reports about my mom’s situation, but now it’s in the “Wait and See” phase. A lot of unknowns there…
SOTD = Relique d’Amour again. This little sample is doing a wonderful job of helping me “Keep Calm and Carry On!” The scent is going on my FB wishlist, where hopefully it won’t languish for years and years. ?
Yay on the good progress! I need to try more Orizas. What does that one smell like to you?
I’m going to get a little poetic with my description: Relique d’Amour smells like incense, a Christmas tree, and Easter lilies in an old stone church. The Christmas tree and lily notes show up at different times on me, which seems fitting. ?
Oh. That sounds just wonderful.
Ooh! Sounds nice. Have you tried LAP Passage d’Enfer? Same lily incense theme. Wonder how they compare…
I have not tried Passage d’Enfer yet, sorry.
I´m planning on some serious Oriza sampling after this week´s CP. I recently ordered a larger sample set, and I can´t wait! I´m sure you smell wonderful. They seem to come from another planet, a better one.
There are 3 Orizas that I have tried that are firmly on my “This is Wonderful!!!” list. ? Not everything that I have tried from that house is to my taste, but the artistry in the scents is very much present.
I don’t like all that I’ve tried either, but I am kind of enamoured with the line. Might just be the tassels
Sending continued good thoughts for your mom.
Does Relique d’Amour last on you? I like it but Reve d’Ossian only lasts about 30 minutes so I am leery.
Yes, Relique d’Amour hangs around on me for 7 – 9 hours. I do have scent glue skin, though. YMMV.
Thinking of you and your family. I hope you’re getting a chance for a little bit of peace each day.
Thank you sistine! ✌
Hope your mom continues to make good progress! We’re sending her good wishes!
I’m off to hunt for the Oriza sampler set mentioned above. I’ve only tried Eau de Crypt, so there are more to explore. I love that this house is so old…!
Thank you Deva! I think the Orizas are well worthy trying, based on what I have experienced.
I’m glad you’re getting good reports about your mom. Hopefully it will help you breathe just a little bit easier!
Me too! Not out of the woods yet, though.
Yay on the good reports on your mom. Were you able to speak to her?
I tried calling her room today, and didn’t get an answer. She was probably doing PT when I called.
I wore Musc 25 today – I confused the weeks for the next two CPs. No problem however, because I really really love this perfume. I hadn’t worn it on a chilly day, and it was so different! What a treat.
And I had forgotten what was next! You get points in advance.
SOTD = Diana Vreeland Daringly Different
DV is not a small company but since the name of the perfume begins with D’s, I am so claiming extra credit. Anyway, I pretty much fell in love with this at Sniffapalooza. Ask floragal…I kept smelling my arm during lunch. It is a deceptively simple perfume – Iris, rose, woody notes, Tonka, leather. Not one note dominated.
Speaking of DV, have you tried the body cream? I kid you not, this is one of the BEST body creams ever! It is very very lightly-scented and very emollient, quick absorbing. If you are saving for a luxurious body product, this is one to indulge in.
Commuting Woes No. 617-619:
– a woman reeking of alcohol came on board the train and proceeded to melt into a 3 seater. I was 1 row behind on the other side of the aisle. When the conductor came to collect tickets, she waved her wrist at him and said she just got out of the hospital and she needs medical attention. I guess this was not the conductor’s first rodeo and said why didn’t you tell me this on the platform. Also, if a passenger requests medical attention, a conductor is required to call it in which he did. I inwardly groaned because the train was already late and having been on one too many trains delayed by medical personnel, I knew it would take a while. The conductor then walked away to continue collecting tickets. When the train doors opened at the next stop, one of the passengers who must have seen her in action previously told her to leave now and quickly, which she did. As it turned out, she was just looking for a free ride from one station to another.
– A woman encouraged someone to cheat on a fare by swiping her ticket at a mobility-impaired entrance and walking through together without fear of the barriers closing on them as they are designed to let bulkier people/equipment go through
– I saw a police car flashing its lights by the traffic light behind my car and when it got through, the lights stopped flashing. As soon as it got near the next traffic light, it again flashed its lights and once through, the lights stopped flashing. Methinks there’s no emergency or it would have sirens blaring and lights flashing throughout. I hate it when law enforcement abuses its privelege!
SOTD us Avignon. Feeling sore after a biopsy yesterday and a little tense until I get the results in 4 days.
Late reply, but keep us posted ScentSpirit!
