Happy Almost-Friday! There are 32 more days to go for the year. Birthdays today: Clive Staples Lewis and Madeleine L'Engle. What fragrance are you wearing?
I going the delicious route, with L’Artisan Parfumeur Noir Exquis by Bertrand Duchaufour.
Reminder: 11/30 will be Renegades Friday...wear a perfume by Mark Buxton, Bertrand Duchaufour or Geza Schoen, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

House twins, Robin. 🙂
I am in L’Artisan Parfumeur Poivre Piquant by Bertrand Duchaufour (finished my sample). Honey, pepper, milky notes, woody notes – not too spicy, not too sweet. Very good. But it disappears too soon on my skin… Maybe it would perform better when sprayed, not dabbed (I only had a small vial without a sprayer).
Isn’t so interesting how scents are different sprayed versus dabbed
I cannot remember how well that one lasted on me! Great scent although overshadowed (imho) by the Safran Troublant.
Safran Troublant is definitely more dramatic, although at the moment I prefer Poivre Piquant.
Oh I love that one, you smell great. I have found that Roberto Cavalli Oro smells very similar and lasts longer.
Oh thanks! I have not tried Oro, but the notes look good.
Lili Bermuda Frangipani, again.
Tea is a Russian fruit tea and I have no idea the name just picked it up at Kalustyan’s here in the city.
Its cold but I can handle any temperature as long as the sun is out
I am with you on cold and sun. Short and grey days are the worst part of late autumn and winter for me.
But it looks like you are wearing a sunny white floral this week. 🙂
I feel the exact same way. I really need sun this time of year! November has been soooo dreary.?
Same here. I hope that isn’t what winter is going to be like!
You are making me lemming this scent… I can’t remember from prior conversations if there are others of hers you have or like?
How does it compare to OJ Frangipani which in my opinion is perfection?
I have to it’s one thing I love about living in New Mexico after moving here last year- it does get quite cold (next week it’s supposed to be in the 30s all week) but it’s almost always sunny and dry. I’ll try and send as much sun your way as possible!
I think when the sun is out I am more motivated to move and get going..I don’t mind the refreshing temperatures with the sun on my face. A little Vitamin D too…
With the 2 little ones, some days I have no choice, even if its gray and cloudy I still have to go outside.
I’m in Escentric 04, the last of the Escentric scents from Geza Schoen. Tomorrow I’m planning to wear the first of the Molecules. Having read Kevin’s review of Molecule 04 (Javanol) I don’t think it will be that one. I’m leaning toward the vetiveryle acetate in Molecule 03. I love vetiver.
I wonder if he will do more of those?
Wearing Roja’s Unspoken.
I bought this when RD had his outlet sale years ago – only paid 15.99 GBP; and frankly, that is likely all I would want to pay. A rather wan little chypre – needs more OOMPH.
Wow, I have a bottle of the edp and it feels very rich to me.
Roja Dove seems like a very famous/prolific perfumer, but I rarely come across anyone wearing his creations in this forum. I have never smelled any of them or come across this line in the niche perfumeries I have been to.
I found them in a men’s specialty store once and test-stripped them all with great excitement, but was underwhelmed by all of them.
Wow, that’s a great deal.
☕☕☕☕☕☕??????
Chypre Palatin MDCI
???✌?
Lean in so I can sniff you Bear ?
Such a wonderful scent
Have you moved on the sextuple-strength coffee?! 🙂
I like your perfume though don’t wear it too often.
Maybe Bear is doing a double triple on his coffee now! (Two sets of triple strength, which gives me a caffeine buzz just typing it.)
Ah, you know me well, or maybe I’ve just become predictable. LOL ????????
Both you and my brother consume mass(ive) amounts of caffeine. ?
Nice! I have a decant from a split and a FB. A little over a year ago, Kafka had a post on reformulation.of Chypre Palatin:
http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2017/08/23/reformulation-woes-mdcis-chypre-palatin/
To me they smelled the same, acknowledging that I do not have a sophisticated nose.
Thanks for the article. I have the darker juice ordered from MDCI France in February 2015 and oakmoss is definitely present. ???✌
Twins!
In my last little bit of Dzongkha by BD. I love the idea of this one, but, as with most smoky scents, it doesn’t quite work for me.
I went to Ulta yesterday and spritzed a few things, including NR Fleur Musc, which I am now in love with. I have a bottle of For Her edt and they’re pretty similar, but that is somehow not dissuading me from wanting a bottle of FM as well . . .
I don’t know Dzongkha, but I love Fleur Musc, too. It’s lovely. And the pink bottle is pretty as well.
I can totally see having both. I own both NR edp and edt, or White Cube and Black Cube, as I like to call them.
I actually tested the edp yesterday as well – I’d never smelled it before. It was lovely, of course, but I think I actually do slightly prefer the edt (which I suspect puts me in the minority around here). The edt is one of my cold weather go-tos, but I don’t like it at all in the heat, oddly enough.
I too prefer the edt, but like them both.
Although I love the edp more, I find the edt easier to wear.
I have never been to a Ulta!
You should go, they have a really good rewards program
I second lillyjo. I will pick Ulta over Sephora every time because of their great rewards program and regular coupon discounts. Plus Ulta has a fun mix of pricier, prestige brands and lower-cost drugstore brands.
(Promise I’m not a shill for Ulta – just a fan!)
There’s a couple of things I love that I can only get at Sephora, but I completely agree that Ulta is more fun – they always have new, fun, cheap stuff to look at rather than just the pricier lines.
Dzongkha didn’t work for me either while I adore Timbuktu, have you tried that one?
I have! It didn’t work for me either – the vetiver note smelled a bit sour. Dzongkha and Timbuktu are both scents that I expected to love based on the description but weren’t quite for me.
How funny, I adore Dzongka and Timbuktu was a complete fail for me.
Fleur Musc is on my wishlist….I hope Santa (or Santa’s mom!) springs for a bottle! 🙂
??????
I’m daring to wear Memo Italian Leather to work today (gasp!). 🙂 Kidding a little – it has a couple of unusual notes for a leather fragrance (tomato leaf and a rather dry iris) that I love but suspect others might not. Oh well, I’m not expecting a lot of close contact with people today. Happy Friday Eve, NSTers!
That actually sounds intriguing. I’ll have to try it!
Dark and rainy here, curled up with the puppy as I fight my way through an annoying throat infection. I’m joining Robin in Noir Exquis.
I’m sorry you’re not well. I hope you beat the bug into submission soon!
You smell lovely. Hey, how is the puppy girl eating? Hopefully she’s seen the light, that food is a Good Thing.
She is eating her raw food, but only if my husband hand feeds it to her. Spoiled little girl. I’m hoping she will grow out of this phase.
I’ve been so enjoying the stories of your spoiled little pupgirl.
Feel better soon!
Get better! You know that puppies and kittens have healing powers, righ? 🙂
They do!
Indeed they do. She’s being a good nurse.
Feel better!
Passing you some warm tea with honey and lemon for your throat
Thanks, hot tea is just the thing. I am anxiously awaiting my shipment from Republic of Tea today too.
Ack. Hope your throat feels better soon.
Feel better soon!
Hope you will feel better quickly.
Hey twin!!
Hope the infection does not last long 🙁
I hope you recover quickly and that your puppy snuggles away any discomfort.
Ick! on the sore throat. What are your favorites from Republic of Tea? ☕
I like their flavoured rooibos teas: peppermint chocolate, strawberry chocolate, coconut, vanilla, etc. They are naturally caffeine-free and I drink them in the evenings. For my one cup of black caffeinated tea per day, I drink Fortnum & Mason or Kusmi.
Thanks!
Sycomore edt. Wishing it had more oomph. Geesh I love this frag!
I have only smelled this one on a strip but really liked it.
Very classy stuff!
OJ Ta’if today. Lovely.
There was a story on our local news this morning that EMT’s are going to start carrying essential oils on ambulances to help people with minor pain, anxiety and nausea. The power of scent.?
What a lovely idea! Oh, and hi twin!
Yes, lavender and peppermint EO patches are already used inpatient to help post-op patients with nausea and anxiety as a complement to standard medications.
Hey twin, we smell lovely!
I bought an OJ sampler earlier this month, and Ta’if is far and away my favorite from it – you smell great!
Thanks! I got a sample set from Luckyscent when they started carrying OJ too. So many good scents!
You smell great! Ta’if is my favorite… not only from the OJ line but in my whole collection.
That was an interesting bit about essential oils. Let’s just hope it won’t make ambulance services even more expensive.
Wow. I don’t think I have ever heard anyone claim a favorite. Ta’if is a worthy one, for sure.
I’m really set in my ways 🙂 My “Top 3” haven’t changed in the last 7 years, probably (with #1 staying there for… my whole life). And Top 20 are more or less the same for years.
It doesn’t mean that I don’t love, like and wear other perfumes, but if I had to grab just 3 to save from the burning building, I wouldn’t even pause to think.
I love that. I want to be like you. Seriously. To be able to enjoy the variety while also maintaining a steady, unquestionable loyalty…. Inspiring.
Wow! That is high praise indeed, I know you have quite a collection. I don’t usually enjoy rose as a main note, but the OJ base makes it so lovely.
You smell great.
Thanks KellyC! You do too!!
You smell gorgeous.
Thanks lizbee!
I’m in OJ Ta’if today, for the first time, from the discovery set. Mercy. I see now why this is so loved by NSTers. Wow! Gorgeous!
I just got this discovery set too! Ta’if is my favorite as well.
Smelling awesome!
Another one bites the dust 🙂
Sooooo beautiful.
Beautious!
My sotd is Angel, but it has gone horribly wrong today. I’m going to wait it out until lunch and throw oud bouquet on top of it, we shall see how that goes? I smelled the Kim Kardashian perfumes the other day at ULTA. All of them were ok. I really liked the cherry one, a little cough syrupy at first spray, but turned sweet and musky.
It would be interesting to test it in parallel with TF Lost Cherry…
I probably won’t get to smell the TF, but the KK is only 45 dollars, so I hope there is a difference.
Is that a candy heart or body bottle, lillyjo? LOLOLOL ??? But inquiring minds really would like to know………
???✌
I think she means the Kimoji Cherry — I did not even announce that set.
Yep, that’s the name… I couldn’t remember.
Ha!.. they didn’t have the heart ones, but the body one is uh… quite the body, lol, that one was mainly like a woody gardinia, lol again! But still not bad. ??
Very brave of you to try something with a cherry note in it! ? That would make me run in the other direction… cherry does horrible things with my chemistry.
Cherry can go either way for me. I used to wear a Coty Cherry Vanilla, and Escada Cherries in the Air. Most of my bad experience has been with cherry lotions, which are just yuk on me.
Vintage Nu today. I live everything about it, save I wish it stick around a bit longer. Love that opening blast!
Jacques Cavellier certainly isn’t as renegade as the perfumers listed for tomorrow but he has some weird scents under his belt.
Love*
I forgot he did Nu!
When I got my bottle, I remember looking it up. I wasn’t surprised though. I’ve gotten quite a few compliments today on it.
BD’s L’Artisan Fleur de Liane for dewy greens today. I’m wearing a floral print tank under a green linen open cardigan, so I feel like my scent and outfit are matching. ?
I really wish I had tried that one before it vanished! I’m sure you smell great.
It sounds like you’re dressed for the weather I wish we had.
Love Madeleine L’Engle!
I’m in Mille et Une Roses and smelling like delicious ambery rose. So not a renegade at all.
You smell wonderful!
I am in a forgotten bottle of Tocade Rochas – I bought this awhile ago unsniffed based on several very persuasive reviews and I am glad I did. It can veer a little into the sweet territory but the vanilla-rose-something metallic combo works so well
I have so many forgotten bottles! Poor babies.
In Duchaufour’s I Miss Violet. To me, this lovely violet is a bit of a crushed, candied violet with green stems and leaves, and leather, some make-up scent in there as well, lipstick?… but not harsh. A soft version of these elements.
So here are my questions: Do you think that this is what the perfumer was aiming for? Do you think he got a brief that asked for a soft, greenish, leatherish, make-up violet? And then, the name. Who comes up with that name, and when? Does the company have the name from the start and the perfumer fills in the product? Or does the name come later–folks smell the perfume, draft a list of names, and one is chosen that best represents the perfume and the perfume company?
Inquiring minds want to know!
(It is bucketing rain outside and our new kitten has plunked himself down onto the heat vent. I have work to do, but have an extraordinary desire to crawl back into bed with a book and the kitten!)
I have a horror of cute word plays or puns when it comes to perfume names. They always seem twee and slightly infantile, and turn me off the scent. Most of my perfumes have a kind of neutrality in their names ( all the Jo Malones) or are single word , evocative (Journey). Bapteme du Feu and Debaser are borderline for me. Funny,eh.
Puns on the word “miss” are definitely cutesy, and in perfume tilt towards twee. I agree that this violet perfume might even smell slightly better if named Brunhilde or Albnfasiji or some such! But do give it a sniff if you come across it. Then let us know if you were Miss Taken about it . . . .
(So so so sorry. Couldn’t help it. )
Ha ha good one!
I was thinking of names I find too prescriptive, that allow no room for the imagination.
‘What would love do?’ (I don’t know but making the bed once in a while would be a start)
Better with You (at least then my dinner at the restaurant will be paid for)
F### Fabulous (the name ‘pretty ordinary’ was taken)
Girl of Now (one for the Nabokov readers)
Superstitious (Warning: buying Frederick Malle may bring bad luck)
Beyond Paradise (the view from your 5 star hotel balcony, watching another wilderness retreat being built)
Poison Girl (one for madame Bovary fans)
Correction:
Stronger with you (Can you help pull up the wet carpet)
Oh those are seriously funny. Okay, here are some more:
Aimes Moi (for when you need to say pleeeeeeeaaaaseee. . . . pretty please, pretty, pretty, pretty please… cherry on top?)
La Vie Est Belle (for when you have absolutely nothing to say to the fire fighter who just saved your life)
Boyfriend (for when you can be very creative with a bottle)
Oud Wood (for those who aren’t sure)
Black Opium (for vaping)
Fat Electrician – for when the ‘Boyfriend’ runs out
Tom of Finland – for when the Fat Electrician runs out
Ginsberg is God – your safe phrase with Tom of Finland
Girlfriend – when it all becomes a bit boring
Nasty Woman – you know it!
Bond New York – OMG did that guy just fart in my face
Midnight in Paris – I told you to bring the map before we left the hotel!
California Reverie – Idris Elba calls on the off chance you are not too busy for a cup of tea
Nuit Etoilee – NASA fund raiser for next Mars landing
You two are HILARIOUS!
Started this list a while ago and then got pulled away. I won’t get back to it today. . .
Thanks for the laughs!!!!
Armani Code (when he’s not an a-hole, just an an enigma?)
Paris-Bangalore (when you better get an aisle seat?)
Love the Way You Taste (when you are a Niçoise salad?)
Thanks for the laugh!! I certainly needed it as I’m sitting on hold waiting for the credit card company. They put a flag/hold on my account due to the fridge purchase we had to make on Monday.
It’s all good now. Phew, crisis averted!
My guess, is that with most big companies, the name and bottle come first.
Yep. With The Different Company, no idea.
SOTD is Chanel No. 19 Poudre one of my mainstays, the other one being Hermes Hiris which I wore yesterday. I have been in an Iris state of mind this week.
You can’t go wrong with Iris. 19 Poudre is one my favs as well
An iris state of mind is a great one to be in!
No 19 is so easygoing, you smell fab.
I am frequently in an iris state of mind. You smell fabulous!
No. 19 Poudre is lovely!
Chestnuts!!! We got a bag of them last weekend at the farmers’ market, and then I roasted them in the open fire of our gas stove until my boyfriend freaked out (“WHAT IF THE FIRE ALARM GOES OFF”–not unfairly; I’d tried to roast padron peppers on the flames the day before and the fire alarms in three different rooms kept going off simultaneously, because apparently the people who design these alarms don’t know how to cook, and two of the alarms can’t be turned off). Anyway, I look forward to roasting the rest of them tonight.
Copal Azur again, because it’s wet and miserable and I wanted to cheer up with some incense while thinking of azure coasts.
Haha! You are right. Fire alarm makers do not know how to cook. I must share that bit of wisdom with my husband who is horrified by my smokey kitchen enterprises, especially when I toast items directly on the flame. (Of course chicken can be roasted at 500! I didn’t marinade it for 24 hours in buttermilk and spices to puttt puttt puttt cook it at 375!!)
Hahaha, right you are! And your chicken sounds delicious.
You’re braver than me – I don’t think my oven dial has ever broken 450. Still, your chicken does sound delicious!
To be fair, our oven is about 10 years older than this one (http://www.savonappliance.com/58.html) and 500 is a relative temperature–somewhere between 425 and 525 is my guess at any given moment!
But give those high temps a whirl. Chicken should be close to room temperature when you start cooking so it cooks evenly, and it will only take 60-80 minutes to reach 165– and it will be crispy and delicious.
We pull the batteries out of the smoke alarm at holidays, which is when I am most likely to be finishing off the meat at 500 🙂
I have a fantastic vanilla incense that smells like custard cooked in a billy over a fire that is so smoky it sets off the alarms ( every time!). Enjoy your chestnuts. We are in the wrong season for chestnuts , sadly.
That sounds AMAZING. What is it called? Can I find some? (Though perhaps I shouldn’t get it, if it sets off the alarms.)
Aroma Valley (made in Chennai) incense cones in Vanilla. Very cheap from Trade Aid. The Patouchli and sandalwood are also good.
How did the yelp situation work itself out? You are still alive I see
Hahaha. I don’t know if it’s over yet. After I posted about it here yesterday, I was threatened with litigation if I didn’t take the post down before the end of the day. I didn’t take it down, but I haven’t received any more messages yet today so I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Litigation my eye. I’d love to see the trial for that one. “So you’re suing the defendant for leaving a restaurant review… on a restaurant review site?”
I know, right? I had a couple lawyer friends look over my post to make sure I wasn’t crazy, and they were on my side, which helped me calm down.
That’s so crazy!
We have touchy fire alarms/smoke detectors, too. We kept the some of the packaging they came in when we replaced ours… looks like a little shower cap. If we know that our cooking is going to be high temperature, or smoky, we pop it on to the detector that is most likely to go nuts. Works like a charm… all we have to do is remember to take it off when we are finished cooking.
Oooh, that’s a good idea. Unfortunately, one of them is about 20′ off the ground (our living room has very high ceilings), and even my very tall boyfriend is only 6’2″, so we wouldn’t be able to rig it up like you do 🙁
Uh oh! That’s definitely a problem. No 20-foot ceilings for me.
6am and the dogs are hassling me to go for a walk, they’ve been whimpering for action since 5. At least it’s not raining so off we go! Wearing Boronia…now you smell it, now you don’t. I wrecked my back pulling up sodden carpet yesterday and recovered by watching Monty Don going around gardens in Italy and France. There was a nice episode about artist’s’ gardens including Giverny and Paul Cezanne’s, and another on kitchen gardens (France) and a super medicinal garden (Italy). It’s on netflix . My friend’s mother died this week. she was 106! Imagine that! What changes in the world she must have seen ( I never met her because she lived in Edmonton). Happy Friday everyone.
Your poor back Kanuka, and I’m sorry for the water damage in your house. Glad you were cheered up by an interesting TV programme.
Thanks Aurora.
So sorry about your back, hope it’s better soon. Speaking of boronia, there is a new scent out from the Australian outfit Goldfield & Banks called Southern Bloom, supposedly featuring boronia flower. Having never smelled one in real life I can’t say how accurate it is, but I enjoyed the sample.
Hope that your back feels better ASAP!
Sorry about your back, and your ruined carpet!
Prada Infusion d’Oeillet to keep me warm and cosy. It’s so windy today.
I am wearing Or du Serail by Naomi Goodsir, another BDSOTD.
This is a splitmeet decant from a wonderful NST’er!
I have one of those splits too, love that scent!
Ormonde Woman today. Love love love this.
So happy it’s almost Friday. I don’t know why this week at work has been so difficult when last week was a short week! Seems I’d be more refreshed.
Such a beautiful scent. You smell amazing.
My better half has work events all week so I have been holding down the fort while he has been out networking at beautiful restaurants and I am trying to keep the kids alive and fed. So I will be happy when the week ends and I can hopefully get some time to myself this weekend.
Oh that’s tough! I do hope you get some alone time this weekend. It’s essential for mental health I think!
You smell wonderful. So glad this scent get a lot of love this week.
Me too! I love seeing a lot of the OJs represented this week.
I bet you smell great (I haven’t tried any of the OJ yet) and I hope things will be looking up tomorrow.
I am wearing Norne today as I toddle off to the hairdresser’s. I’m still growing my hair out, but it has become a shapeless pouf and needs help. I am hoping a new stylist can help.
Oh, and hajusuuri, I bought a new printer because my HP stopped scanning. I got a Canon Pixma MX492 for about $40. I like it so far.
I need to do the same, my hair looks like a brillo pad, but I’m trying to hold out until January, when my bangs will be down to my ears.
Thanks. Will check it out!
Wearing CdG Avignon. Perfect to deal with a cold, sunny, crazy, busy day at work. Thanks God there are only 32 more days to go for the year. I hope they go fast!
Always SO perfect. You smell amazing PL67!
Thank you! ?
You smell so good.
Thank you! ?
I’m not quite ready to deal with Christmas yet! Too soon!
Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore
That one is next up on my full-bottle list! Or maybe it will be Eau d’Orange Vert. Decisions…
Anyway, you smell like bottled happiness!
Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore
Sunshine in liquid form.
SOTD OJ Frangipani (GS). I enjoy BWFs when it’s sunny and cold.
Different house, but we are both in Frangipani. Scent name twins.
Hey, frangipani twin! And I’m sure you smell great, too ?
I have never tried any of the OJ florals in the winter. I always save them for summer. Maybe I should break them out and try them.
Quite windy today, grey skies but no rain, and I went with TF Cafe Rose.
Cafe Rose is great. You smell wonderful.
Thanks Kelly! The rose note is really nice in that one, I actually prefer it to Noir de Noir which is more popular.
Mohur, from the split meet. I’m happy with the little decant I have but I think overall the NV scents are just a like, not a love for me.
The chestnuts in the picture – horse chestnuts, I believe, rather than the edible kind – remind me of childhood autumns rooting through wet leaves for chestnuts. I was particularly fond of those that were still half stuck in the spiky shell.
Question for you: I’d like to give my younger dd (11) a little scent this xmas. Ideally something I can get from Fragrancenet for a discount, nothing too fruity or too sweet, but still “young”, perhaps a bit gourmand/vanilla even. Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps Stella? Thanks!
The first scent I have that came to mind is Elie Saab Le Parfum L’Eau Couture. It’s sweetness is fresh. Almond. Orange Blossom. Vanilla.
How about JLo Glow? It’s inexpensive (got mine @ same location) and a lovely scent that she will get many compliments on?
Oh, love that idea! It’s fairly unobtrusive but such a pretty musk.
Maybe the Sakura body mist from Rituals? They have it on Amazon for $17, though retails at $25, so not a bank breaker. I have the hand cream which is lighter than the body mist, but the scent is something an 11 y.o. would probably like. It’s sweet but sheer and not cloying. Cherry blossom +rice milk or something Cheerful, definitely.
Otherwise, maybe a Philosophy mini set? https://www.fragrancenet.com/perfume/philosophy/philosophy-variety/4-piece-variety-with-live-joyously-eau-de-parfum-and-and-fresh-cream-edt-and-living-grace-edt-and-loveswept-edt-and-all-are-spray-.5-oz#307480
what lovely suggestions – I will need to check them all out!! Thanks! And keep them coming if you can think of more. I really appreciate your thoughtful suggestions!
Maybe Guerlain Idylle Love Blossom or Kenzo Amour? I got Kenzo Flower for my young niece.
Kenzo bottles are pretty! Idylle Love Blossom would be too sweet – I had that as a decant and freebie’d it away, though I liked the color of the juice. Thanks!
Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant!!!
Stella’s a good idea, too. The Different Company Kashan Rose. Any of the Guerlain Aqua Allegorias.
Any scent with an animal name is actually a good idea, now that you suggest that – but I think the jungle elephant will be harder to find discounted. Thanks!
It was discounted on Fragrancenet for something like $40 very recently.
I’ll check tonight – thanks! I’m really liking the elephant idea….
I feel the same way about NVC at this point – although I’m going to wait until warmer weather and try again and see if I feel differently.
I second the Kenzo Amour suggestion – I think Kenzo is a fun line in general with cool bottles
Maybe ELdO Fils de Dieu? The bottle might be kind of boring for an 11 year old, but the scent is great and comes in 1 ounce bottles.
Florid Honey Oud on this beautiful rainy day (we need all the rain we can get here in NorthCal), though my cat Rusty might disagree: he got scared by the sound of strong rain (and, I think, even some thunder) and was on high alert during the morning feeding – not that it spoiled his appetite.
You reminded me to bring my bottle of Honey Oud to the front of my cabinet. Such a beautiful scent! You smell great!
I had a boyfriend named Rusty once…I hope your cat Rusty is more loyal that my bf Rusty was LOLOL.
Rusty, being an orange cat, is as loyal as cats go: it takes weeks of someone living with him and feeding him daily (when we have long trips) for him to finally give in and come to sit on this person’s lap – whereas it’s almost a daily ritual with him and me, especially when it gets colder 😉
OMG the thunder this morning!!! That was so scary!
Poor Rusty kitty! ? Glad to hear that it didn’t interfere with breakfast.
Friday here and the sun has returned after some very dull and wet days. I thought I had lots of choice for this CP, but no. I really must have a close look at who has made my perfumes! I do, however, have Trayee by Bertrand Duchaufour, so that’s my scent for today.
Glad you have some sun!
Hurrah for the sun returning! ???
Got called into work and will be stuck at work until 8 tonight. Woke up in a haze of LADDM and switched to Deneuve after I took a shower. I hate it when people just randomly quit. I was hoping for a day off but that must wait until Saturday. I am holding off on buying any full bottles until the end of December or until my Christmas shopping is done. Ubar and Avignon are neck and neck for first place.
How’s your dog doing?
She is pretty much back to her normal self. Thanks for asking.
Glad to hear your dog is better but sorry about being called in to work. Tough call between Avignon and Ubar, they are both great.
I haven’t sniffed Ubar so I vote for Avignon because I love it.
Ubar and Avignon are very different in feel to me. Not quite total opposites but close. Either one will be a great choice.
Hello y’all….
Grabbed a sample of Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey on my way out the door…..it’s perfectly OK, but not one I’d purchase.
SMELLY ALERT: If you are a fan of Ganache Parfums, you can get 35% off any purchase over $25 for the next few days! Use code BURNT at checkout! LOVE Ganache! I’m ordering Southern Tea Kakes, methinks! 🙂
Jada, which ones do you recommend?
I LOVE Southern Tea Kakes and Lemon Eclair. (I just ordered the Tea Kakes and already had the Lemon Eclair.)
I have a bunch of Ganache samples that I haven’t even tried yet! I better get a sniffin’ while the sale is on… 🙂 Nothing like Christmas shopping for one’s self…LOL!
Escentric Molecule 01 layered with Prada Iris Cedre and Montale Intense so Iris.
I smell like a Heap of starched linens…. Not bad, but i dont like this in cold weather.
Ambre Russe for the evening, and alcoholic amber with dried fruits. Not a gourmand, but Tasty ?
Ambre Russe is great stuff!
OJ Champaca from a sample I got at ZGO in SF this summer. Very lovely. My husband is blown away.
Who was talking about an OJ travel spray split???
Looooove Champaca. I almost wore it today but only have a teeny bit left in my sample, so I hoard it. 🙁
That was me! I mentioned it the other day….I thought I would see if there’s enough interest during the splitmeet to order a set of Champaca. Each 8 ml spray would be $24 (plus shipping) which is considerably less than any of the decanting sites. Plus! they’re already decanted. Keep a lookout during the splitmeet!
I love OJ Champaca – it just smells right somehow. You smell incredible.
First Duchaufour, plan to wear another one tomorrow. SOTD is Chypre Palatin, one of the 2 fragrances he did with MDCI. It’s very beautiful, I’ve only got a large sample but I think that will be plenty. The MDCI samples are large and they last a long time.
After a super stressful and scent-free clinic morning, I was excited to relax at my desk with a little Gardener’s Glove…. unfortunately my sample dripped into my keyboard and now F4 smells VERY strong. Oops. I’ll just tell everyone it’s a very sophisticated air freshener, I guess.
You have the best fragranced F4 in the world! Wish it were mine! ?
I wish my F4 smelled that good.
Is that one of the St Clair Scents? I can’t wait to try those. What beautiful, happy names.
It is! Not my favorite of the lot, it’s a little mosquito-repellent on me, although I DO think that is appropriate for a gardener.
Hey, office mosquitoes are a real hazard!
It depends on which mosquito repellent it resembles. Where I work, the “official” insect repellent that they distribute for use in the offices is vile and give me a raging headache.
Glad that it was something you liked that dripped onto your F4 key! You might be sniffing that one for a while. ?
I’m wearing OJ Isfarkand today. I often forget that I have this in my sample drawer. It’s elegant and bright, and a good choice for achieving a little fragrance uplift.
Isfarkand doesn’t get mentioned here as much as some of the other OJs but I really love it. If I got one of those travel sets madtowngirl was mentioning yesterday, I’d want Isfarkand to be one of them. You smell wonderful!!!
Isn’t it lovely? It’s like a really good Hermessence, but more exotic.
Yes!
I put on a little Escentric 04 last evening and I can still smell it today after showering. That is all right because I do like this one.
Wow, that’s some serious longevity!
The only perfume with which I have experienced that kind of longevity is vintage Secret de Venus. That stuff is a real powerhouse.
My week of “under the radar weird” continues. The light in our bedroom switched itself on at 5-something this morning. Unfortunately, it does that on occasion, since the switch is wired through a remote control. And said remote will pick up any stray signals from whatever source is in the area. “It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.” Phooey.
I have some good new to report, though. I got a phone call from my mom earlier today. She moved into the assisted living facility the day after Thanksgiving, and sounded rather happy and present during her call. It was a load off my mind, and eased a guilty conscience a bit as well.
SOTD = Oriza L. Legrand Reve d’Ossian, from the sample stash and a kind NSTer. I was in the mood for spicy incense to counter the cold, windy weather here.
Ack! That should be “good news” up there!
Very happy to hear this transition has gone well for your mom! Hopefully you can rest your mind a little.
Like I’ve told my brother, emotions aren’t logical. But that phone call sure was a good thing for me today!
It’s great to hear your mum is happy.
Thanks Kanuka! I was worried about how she would adjust.
That’s great, Jalapeno 🙂
(Sorry about your light, though.)
Yeah, that stupid light fixture/ceiling fan has a mind of its own.
So great about your mom!
It is, yasmina! Thanks!
That’s wonderful news about your mom. I’m happy she’s adjusting so well.
The light is spooky, however.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how much of a support system my mom has when I visited her earlier this month. Some of my cousins have been a godsend, tbh.
Great news! So glad that your mom is happy with her new digs!
Yes! I was worried that she might have second thoughts about the whole thing.
The light was actually a signal from your Mom that everything is going well. ?✨?????
And it is great that it is.
???✌
I’ve been having a whole bundle of emotions to process with this experience. Plenty more to come down the pike, but for now, I can breathe a little easier.
Peace of mind, even temporarily, is wonderful. ?✌
So glad to hear it!
Bois Farine today. My hand immediately reached for it this morning, and I hate having arguments with my hand.
Yeah, “talk to the hand” usually doesn’t work out so well in these cases. It knows what it is doing!
Resistance is futile! ?
I wore Mohur parfum today. I just love it and wish it only cost a nickle. Still, I’m happy to have my decant.
Oops nickel…tired tonight. Super busy at work. Didn’t even have lunch.
Not having time for lunch is a total bummer! I hope that your work schedule slows down for you tomorrow.
I really hope it lets up for you soon.
Super late today in BoE. Just now going to lunch…!
I’ve made some legit waves (and few enemies) today, and I hope my contract gets cancelled! ??
Everybody can’t love ya !!! Or me !
Hope you get what you want, Deva.
???✌
Not sure if I want to say “Oh boy!”, “Yikes!”, or both!
Fingers crossed for a canceled contract, followed immediately by a super great contract!?
Egads! Your hospital sounds horrible. When one door closes, another one opens!
Liquid Dreams again today–this really is a very pretty floral, and I am glad I got the FB. Late this afternoon, when LD had worn off, I sprayed some Calling All Angels on one arm and Tempted Muse on the other. CAA reminds me quite a bit of Messe de Minuit. TM doesn’t remind me of anything else I own. It is floral, and it is fruity, but it is miles from the typical fruity floral. Overall, I am quite impressed with this line. I have not always had good luck with natural perfumes. Some of them are far too fleeting on my skin, and many of them don’t smell like essential oils blends rather than fully composed perfumes. These smell like real perfumes, and have good longevity.
On another note, I am going through my collection to select things for the next Freebie Meet or Swap Meet. I have a number of things that I have to admit just don’t suit me. I really don’t need to replace them with other perfumes, especially things I haven’t sniffed, so most (or all) will likely be freebies.
SOTD = NVC Mohur Extrait
Definitely deeper and richer than the EDP. This is a perfume I can wear several days in a row without going bonkers.
I hope my nephew decides to go home for the weekend so he can help me with the old printer drop off (I have 2) and pick up the new one. I have not yet picked one out but it is looking more like I’ll be getting an HP. I am still researching the ink subscription LizzieB mentioned the other day.
Commuting Woes No.616:
I got delayed getting home again due to a disabled train. Station announcements and arrivals board did not match reality and the train I was aiming for just went poof from the boards with no announcement whatsoever. It wasn’t any better yesterday when trains were delayed a good 25 minutes!
Today I wore a sample of Vero Profumo Mito EDP. What a lovely lemon and bergamot opening and galbanum and it pooped out pretty quickly. I opened my sample box today. It is relatively small and the the odor of hope and despair came wafting out. I don’t have that many samples in there and it looks like I have not really seriously reviewed anything, according to my sample journal since April, 2017! In my defense, I probably have not ordered any new samples since well before that. I have kept an empty sample of Sammarco Alter, to remind me how much I love it and also an almost empty sample of Serge Noir to remind me of how much I do not like it. Also a scant amount of Van Eusersdorff Classic Patchouli so I can compare it to Santa Maria Novella Patchouli and finally decide which perfume is the ONE PATCHOULI TO RULE THEM ALL. I just can never seem to get to the Santa Maria Novella store in Chevy Chase….
Very late to the party – yesterday I wore CdG 2 and as always, wonder why I don’t wear it more often. So quirky yet elegant.
