Chanel 1957 ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 15 November 2018 11 Comments

Chanel will launch 1957, a new addition to the Les Exclusifs collection. The fragrance is reportedly being introduced at the brand's flagship store on 57th Street in New York City, which will re-open today after two years of renovations. The last fragrance added to the Les Exclusifs collection was Boy, in 2016.

1957 was developed by house perfumer Oliver Polge, and is described as "a layered musk". I will update with details when I can.

(via harpersbazaar, vmagazine)

Update ~ 1957 is the year that Coco Chanel received the Neiman Marcus Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Fashion. A more detailed description of the 1957 fragrance from Chanel...

In 1957, Coco Chanel is rewarded for her world-renowned talent and audacity to seize, reinvent and magnify rare materials. The 1957 fragrance embodies this spirit, signature to the heart of every CHANEL creation. A sensual accord of white musk, delicately fashioned with floral notes of Bergamot, Iris and Neroli, woody notes of Cedar, powdery accents and a hint of Honey. A luminous fragrance, a statement to the timeless style of CHANEL. An exquisite scent from LES EXCLUSIFS DE CHANEL fragrance collection.

Chanel 1957 will be exclusive to the New York flagship through February 2019. It is $350 for 200 ml.

Chanel is here to pick our pockets, and I appreciate the effort. First the incredibly packaged body oils, and now this. When I visit NYC next year this will on the to do list.

I have found some info on new Chanel LE 1957 on MUA. Notes:
white musk, bergamot, iris, neroli, cedar, powdery accents, honey. The OP also said 1957 would be exclusively available from Chanel Boutique № 15 East 57th St in NYC from Nov.2018 to Feb. 2019 (WTH??? I simply can’t imagine Les Exclusiff beiing available for purchase only for 3 months!)

My understanding is that after the short period, it will be available in other boutiques and on the website. They did the same thing with Boy, which was at first only available at a single location in Paris for a few months. This is my hope anyway.

With great anticipation, I journeyed to Chanel’s grand reopening to test their latest fragrance, 1957. Unfortunately, I must report that 1957 is an immense disappointment both in terms of scent and pricing.
1957 appears to be nothing more than a copy of Serge Lutens Fleurs de Citronnier and not a very good copy at that, the Lutens exudes honeyed lemon notes whereas “57” is simply tart.
One expects more of Chanel – originality, panache and an air of sophistication that is missing here.
1957 doesn’t exude rich upper east side luxury world and ridiculous wealth, but it could be nice next summer in the Hamptons although I’m not sure the ghost of Edith Bouvier Beale would enjoy it!
