Boom, it's Monday again. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm running late again, in Monocle + Comme des Garçons Scent One: Hinoki.
Reminder: on 11/16, wear a savory perfume (something spicy, herbal, salty, or otherwise foody but not sweet). Suggested by Jalapeno.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the inside of the CDG Teeth and Tongue Wallet, $175 at Bluefly.
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt. Not foody, but definitely salty.
Tried Woodsage etc the other day and it is actually memorable. I think it could be a winter staple. On my “to try again” list!
That’s my number one comfort scent. You smell great!
That’s a good one! I will have to wear it later in the week.
It’s my ‘meeting people I don’t know for brunch’ scent.
I’m wearing Myths Woman (Amouage), all the while pretending it is spring!
I am always happy to pretend it is spring 🙂
Same!
Ditto!
Do you like it? I remember finding it sophisticated when I tried it, but it was a while ago.
I love it, and I got a discounted bottle a while ago, in a moment of weakness. No regrets, to me it’s basically a narcissus on steroids. Hence spring.
I find it a bit trashy, actually, but that is a plus in my book.
I went with Kyoto today after wearing (and loving) it at bedtime last night.
Lovely.
Scent twin! Wore it to the nursing home to visit my mom. I often wear incense because it reminds me to be patient, kind and loving when I don’t always feel that way.
TDC Rose Poivree for a bit of spice.
A bit of spice is a good thing in November 🙂
Wearing Jo Malone BlackBerry & Bay (thanks Downtown Scott!)
Beautiful sunny, bright, cool day. I am having brunch with a friend in a while and then going to see with her kids The Lion King on Broadway. This is the 3rd time for me attending the show, but I never get tired of it.
I might stop later at B&BW to try their new Kaleidoscope perfume. Not so much hopes, but it has been a while since they released an EdP, so let’s see how this “iris” scent performs.
Have a happy Monday everyone!
Have fun at the show! Report back on Kalidiscope.
Thank you Lillyjo! ????
That sounds like a wonderful day. Enjoy your time off.
Thank you Sistine! Looking forward to a nice and relaxing time before facing another crazy week at work!
The bottle is so cute, hopefully the juice is at least ok.
I hope the juice is fair enough, but not having many expectations. At least the bottle looks pretty nice!
Enjoy the show! I saw The Lion King many moons ago in Chicago with my mom and daughter.
Please report back on Kaleidoscope. I see the website has travel sprays.
Thank you! I will enjoy the show for sure!
I was wondering if the travel spray is the EdP or the mist. Most likely the mist, as usual. I will report back!
Sounds like a great day off. Enjoy!
Thank you ElisaP!
Jealous of your amazing sounding day! Have fun!! Oh, and you smell great!
Thank you KellyC! You also smell fabulous in No.19.
The slightly salty but not at all savoury Orange Chocolat by Yves Rocher. Mmmmm.
I’ve never smelled that one, but it reminds me of my mom’s Christmas tradition of gifting my dad a Terry’s chocolate orange as a stocking stuffer every year. When I was a kid, he would sometimes let me do the honor of giving the orange a good whack to break it open 🙂
There’s nothing quite like taking out all your frustrations on a sphere of orange-scented chocolate, and then eating it.
Orange Chocolat was one of the YR Christmas limited-edition lines in I think 2010, and they released a matching scent to go with the shower gel, hand lotion, and lip balm they do every year. It smells pretty much exactly like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange, and is gorgeous. I live in hope that they’ll resurrect it.
If you want a scent, or at least a scent-adjacent product, with the same smell, Beards and Beavers does a beard oil called Smashing (geddit?) which would also double nicely as a perfume oil. It’s tremendous.
Thanks for the recommendation! My bf might be interested in that beard oil.
You can’t get much lazier than me today. But I think I’ve earned it. I had a crazy busy work weekend. Today I’m sampling TF Jonquille de Nuit. I didn’t look it up, so I don’t really know what I’m smelling, but I like it. Sending thoughts and prayers to those in California.
Enjoy your day off. You deserve it! ????
Enjoy your lazy day! I’m sure it’s needed after a crazy weekend. If it’s as dreary in your neck of the woods as it is here, then it’s a good day for being lazy.
Oh it is dreary! I think they said we’ve only had 3 percent sunshine this month.
Enjoy your day- it sounds perfect!
Sometimes a day like this is needed, glad you can relax after trying days.
I hope your lazy day restores you.
Lazy days are the best!
I’m wearing Sideris today. The incense/ herb/ amber combo is killer. Let’s just say that Donatella is going to be hearing about this one at the end of the year.
My thoughts are with everyone in California and everyone who is having a hard time remembering family and friends today, as well as with so many others who are suffering for too many reasons. May peace grow throughout the world.
You smell great!
Seconding that
Thirding.
fourthing all of the above!
Just getting organised for trip to London to see some play at the ATP Finals tennis, so am not smelling of anything very much, in fact I didn’t even bother showering (!) – I will, however, be doing so tomorrow at stupid o’clock as we have to be at the airport by 5:30am! Just swithering between taking my Privet Bloom rollerball or the sample of Muguet Porcelaine I acquired earlier in the year – the PB is considerably older, so I should probably go with that. Not much smellies-related things on the ‘to do’ list, though I will be going to the new Byredo stand-alone shop, Atkinson’s in the Burlington Arcade (thank you again, Robin!) & an intriguing sounding business called Floral Street in Covent Garden. Will also pop by Penhaligon’s, though I’m not as big a fan as I was. Hopefully I will manage to acquire some samples of things I haven’t tried before – as ever, handcarry only precludes a major purchase.
Enjoy your trip!
Thank you
Have a wonderful time.
Thank you
I am delighted to see you use the word (is it a real word?) “swithering” in your post. Whether it’s a real word or not, I look forward to using it myself in the future.
It is indeed a real word, apparently Scottish in origin, ironic as I didn’t know that but have lived here for a long time so have obviously just picked it up. Its meaning is ‘uncertain as to which course of action to take’, which I did know & which I’m sure you surmised from my use of it. I’m so pleased you enjoyed it & look forward to hearing your own use of it!
I was just reading something about Floral Street:
https://www.vogue.com.au/careerhub/how-to-launch-a-fragrance-brand-according-to-the-founder-of-floral-street/image-gallery/23cdd5360de3a8a70f9a75689d21c076
It’s just after 4am as I type this, Robin – stupid o’clock indeed! Their website is pretty comprehensive, but I think the fragrances may be a tad young for me, given what seems to be their target audience, but if we’re in the area (& we usually are) I’ll pop past & have a look.
Yeah, I don’t know much about them other than that the packaging is cute and the prices aren’t so bad. Plus, they do very small sizes which is always a bonus.
Reeling havoc in a bit of Rue Cambon AND Daim Blond. Yes, I am home for a day off and extremely happy about it.
And that should be “reeking,” of course.
Enjoy your day off! You smell great!
Holy cow – what a combo!
Enjoy!
SsotD = Eau des Merveilles + Ambre Narguile
Salty orange spicy sweet, I get a lot of sweetness form AN, other people who smell it on me say no. Hmmm.
Maybe I’ll do a week of EdM+something
Have a great week NSTers! And to those who observe, I hope you have and had moments of peace and happiness during the Veterans Day weekend. My dad is a vet, and it is his 77th birthday today. We’re having a family blow out! 😀
Ooh, a whole week of EdM + something, I will be watching to see what you pair it with!
Happy birthday to your Dad! I thank him for his service!
thanks, madtowngirl, for the EdM love and for the birthday wishes. 😀
Happy Birthday to your dad! Double celebration for him today, nice.
Happy Birthday to your dad and I appreciate his service!
Happy birthday to your dad! Enjoy the double celebration!
Have a great celebration with your dad, Tiffanie.
Happy Birthday and many thanks to your Dad!!
Hope your dad has a fabulous birthday!
Happy Birthday to your Dad???? you smell fantastic!
Happy birthday to your Dad! My grandfather just turned 77 two days ago.
Happy birthday to your dad and thanks to him for his service.
Happy birthday and happy veterans day to your dad!
I was up early and into urgent care first thing this morning for pink eye! Ack! I always think of this as a kids affliction and have managed to avoid it for my entire life. Luckily I am off work today and hopefully my eye is looking better by tomorrow, or I will be home again.
SotD is TDC Bois d’Iris. A recent swapmeet new to me perfume. I wore it yesterday for the first time and really liked it. I could swear I get just a faint note of incense, which must be the vetiver or cedar.
Oh, yuck. I’ve had it a few times, mostly related to sinus infections. It clears up quickly with drops, though. And warm compresses help a lot.
And you smell great! I always liked that one, but never acquired any.
Thanks! It is a really pretty scent.
Yuck is right! I went from a little redness at bedtime to full on crusted over eyelid this morning. Disgusting. My daughter reminded me of when Bob Costas had it in both eyes and continued to do on air reporting during the Winter Olympics. Poor guy! I have the drops too and won’t be contagious after 24 hours of them, but if my eye still looks like it does I will stay home. I don’t need to be freaking patients out. Lol.
You can wear a pirate eye patch. That won’t freak anyone out ????????
Ha! That’s the same thing my husband said!????
I gotta try that one as much as I love iris. I love VCA’s Bois d’Iris, though I’ve heard this one is quite different.
It’s very pretty, you should give it a try. And I need to try the VCA, lol!
Hope your eye is much better tomorrow. You smell great!
Thanks, and thanks pl67!
It sounds painful, hope you recover quickly.
Thanks Aurora. It is actually more annoying than painful, but I hope it clears up quickly nonetheless.
Ugh. Sorry about the pink eye. I was one of THOSE kids, who seemed to get it every now and then.
We had a cat who developed it once as complication from respiratory infection. I had to keep her in the closet, swaddle her and do drops. She hated me at first until it dawned on her it made her feel better. But it cleared up quickly. Yours will too I’m sure.
I can’t imagine giving eyedrops to a cat ???? You are a superhero.
I’m hoping it does- thanks!
Sending healing thoughts and you smell great!
Thanks hajusuuri!
Forgot the theme this week, so I’m in No. 19. At least it’s giving me strength for Monday.
My Lucy bird is sick with a respiratory infection. I know she’s just a bird but positive vibes appreciated.
Wishing Lucy bird a speedy recovery! Not *just* a bird, she’s part of your family!
It’s true. I’m closer to her than any pet ever- and I’ve had lots of little creatures over the years lol. We love animals!
Sending healing vibes to Lucybird!
She’s not just a bird – she’s your feathered baby, so I hope she gets better quickly.
I’d it EdT or EdP? (You smell great either way)
EdP, which I love, but I’ve also added the EdT to my Christmas wish list. I love them both but there is enough difference I can see having a bottle of each.
Hope Lucy bird recovers quick. Sending healing vibes!
Best wishes for Lucy bird.
No pet is ever just anything., so I hope she recovers quickly so mama doesn’t have to worry.
Sending healing vibes to Lucy Bird. I also tried to send your package to you, but the post office is closed today. Which I definitely should have realized ahead of time. D’oh!
Agreeing with everyone that she’s not just a bird. Best wishes for Lucy bird!
Oh no! I hope Lucy bird is feeling better soon!!
I hope you feathered friend recovers soon!
There’s no such thing as a “justa”. Get better, Lucy!
Sending healing thoughts and you smell great! (Heh, laziness reigned…I posted the same exact comment to madtowngirl above ????
Best of Luck Kelly, I ADORE birdsong and would live with the windows open as much as possible so I can enjoy them all. I would love one inside one day….I hope your bird is better very quickly.
Thanks, all. She’s quite sick. Started with what seemed to be sniffles/cold but now is on antibiotics. Just trying to keep her still and resting and warm. I never cover her cage but I’m doing so now because it keeps her calm and inactive compared to how wild she usually is lol.
Healing vibes for Lucy!
I hope Miss Lucy feels better soon. It’s so worrisome when pets are ill.
Big hugs to you, too! ????
My SOTD is the original Bottega Vaneta.
Great choice!
Thank you.. It is still lasting on me from 8:30 this morning.
SOTD Cuir de Lancome, which has an umami smell to my nose. May have to repeat this Friday!
You smell wonderful!
I also smell something foody in Cuir de Lancome. I would describe it as an earthy ‘nutty’ note.
I get a lot of saffron, so that might be it.
Now I’m curious, I’ll pay attention next time I wear it.
In Knowing needing something familiar and cozy. New furnace installed last Tuesday is already on the fritz. Probably the pump. The company is not sending anyone until late this afternoon and I am COLD.
Random and randomer questions to follow:
Anyone tried the ELDO I AM TRASH perfume yet? If so, please share your thoughts.
Anyone bought a mattress recently? It is time for us and I am totally overwhelmed by the number of mattresses on the market and number of meh reviews of said mattresses. Consumer Reports has made me none the wiser. Seeking a memory foam mattress only.
About three years ago we got a Simmons Beautyrest “black” label extra firm deluxe type mattress It was hands down my fav at the store after we tried a bunch out. Oh my god I love the mattress. If there was a fire at my house, I’d figure out a way to throw it out the window. It is so comfortable. I don’t know what it’s equivalent is today, but it was expensive and so worth it.
I hope your furnace is fixed soon and you can be warm and comfy!
We got a Tempurpedic about 10 years ago and I still love it. It felt like I was sleeping on the floor the first night or two. But then I fell in love.
Can’t recommend any current models…they don’t sell ours anymore. And it does seem to have gotten more complicated.
Old school is still the best way. Go and lay down on a bunch of different ones. It’s a really important purchase.
Ours (TempurPedic is about 13 years old and has become a little lumpy (as have we!). Time to replace it, but the world of mattresses has gotten a whole lot more complicated since our last purchase.
I’m terrified of replacing the thing…mattresses are so expensive.
Oakland Fresca, I tried I AM TRASH, am draining my sample, and already ordered a 30ml bottle (with a 20% off coupon this weekend). I wouldn’t say the juice smells revolutionary, but it is a very cheerful (probably more fruity than floral) fragrance with just a tiny twist in it to keep me interested. It is definitely my favorite from D. Andrier so far. I don’t know how much this answers your questions, but let me know if I could be more helpful.
Thank you! I am looking forward to trying it and have been wondering how folks have responded to it.
I can tell you that the Purple Mattress is not worth it.
Their marketing is pretty ubiquitous. Thanks for the tip!
Sorry you are cold. I hate shopping for mattresses, they deliberately confuse the consumer by producing models for certain stores under other names for other stores so you can’t do proper price and feature comparisons. You just need to go to the stores and try them out, WITH your spouse. Mattresses behave quite differently when there is an occupant size differential and with the effect of moving around and getting up and down.
Wearing Clinique Wrappings on the first really chilly morning we’ve had. No points for the theme, but really enjoying it!
Wrappings is so great on chilly days.
I’ve got to try Wrappings. NST is so fond of that one in winter!
Sampling a new brand I heard about on Basenotes called Boyds of Texas. Today I’m trying TX Lavender. If you like a clean straightforward lavender scent, this is it. Very soothing.
Oooh, I’ve been looking for a nice simple lavender, will check it out.
This may be a silly question, but have you tried Caron Pour un Homme? It’s a great lavender imo and dirt cheap on the discount sites!
Thanks Madtowngirl for the reminder about Pour un Homme. I want to try it too.
L’Occitane also has a really nice lavender cologne that won’t break the bank. Plus (enabler alert) they’re having free shipping with all orders on their website today!
Cozy and rich in DSH’s Oiellets Rouges. ( And I looked up the spelling this time. 🙂 ) Close to the end of a 15 ml bottle of this. Debating whether to get more…
The news out of California is heart-breaking. So many dead and missing. I saw a tweet from someone begging for help to evacuate 40 horses. What a nightmare.
Looking at photos of WW1 vets also touching. I saw an image of a battalion of young men headed off to war in 1914, looked like maybe 150 people or so. Then there was the picture of who all came home in 1917. Less than 2 dozen. So much sacrifice.
Then a touching picture of Macron and Merkel standing side by side this weekend, giving Putin the united stone face of disapproval. Ah, our world…
I remember my father who was a medic for 2 years in WWII in England, treating the bomber crews who made it back. I remember my uncle who flew 52 bomber missions over Germany, was shot down twice, but who made it back. I remember the father of my first serious relationship, who spend four years in the infantry, walking and fighting the entire length of Italy, and made it back.
I split a few weeks worth of firewood this weekend, and baked some delicious chocolate chip/coconut/amaranth cookies. Small comforts. I count my blessings…
My older son recently came across the same pair of photos you mentioned of the battalion that was almost entirely wiped out by 1917. He found it extremely troubling as well. Last night my husband, who was born and raised in Scotland, shared stories from his school where entire classes of boys were wiped out each year as they aged into their year for conscription for the world wars–but especially WWI. It is part of the school identity and character now.
News of the fires here is terrible. So far, I do not know anyone who is personally impacted (not so in the past) but the entire state is grieving, especially for Thousand Oaks.
This is the first time I do personally know someone who was impacted by the fires 🙁
Our daughter is nearby (but not in imminent danger) and was asking everyone to donate to the Fire Fighters – they are really scrambling to keep up and are overwhelmed to say the least.
Here is one link for the LA Fire Department from their tweet earlier:
EMERGENCY UPDATE: @LAFDFoundation needs your help. We’re requesting donations at http://supportLAFD.org to provide hydration backpacks for @LAFD firefighters working tirelessly to contain the fires across Southern California. Any amount of money you can spare makes a difference.
Just donated and linked on my Facebook page. Thanks for the nudge.
Thanks AngelaB!
With air quality marked “unhealthy” in our area today and my nose and throat feeling it even without checking official sites, I’m not sure what to wear… Will try Ormonde Jayne Tolu.
Thinking of all the poor people who are affected by these fires much worse than we are here, in the SF Bay Area.
Ugh…might be better to wear a smoke mask than perfume 🙁
Tolu is wonderful. Hope you get some relief from the smoke.
SOTD for the very crisp cold air is Chanel LE Bois des Iles edt.
You smell tres chic, and now I’m interested in checking out the black label Beautyrest the next time I’m at Macy’s. They ‘claim today’s price is the lowest of the year, but no way would I buy without at least a cursory lie-down on the models in store.
It was very expensive for us. It was not the matress we we’re originally wanting but when we laid down on it there was no going back. Buying matresses is tricky and everyone has their preference. It is ridiculous to agonize over something so boring and necessary but so expensive.
Smelling just perfect!
????
Soivohle Honeysuckle Bird for me today. I love how this smells and have for years
Oh am I having a Monday. Thought I locked myself out of my office this morning, had to chase down a coworker to find a spare key, then realized my keys were in my bag the whole time ???? That plus a bursting inbox after being out of the office at a workshop on Friday.
I’m finding my zen in a dab of Dune from The Mini Bottle That Will Not End, plus a spritz of cedar essential oil. It’s helping!
Ha! I do that kind of stuff all the time. Pretty sure I’m headed for dimentia on a non-stop direct flight! ????
Yesterday, I shut my sweater in the car door, right where the door latches (with me in the sweater ) I couldn’t open the door! Had to have someone push it open from the inside.
That sounds both silly and a bit frightening at the same time (trapped!)
I hope your sweater survived the ordeal.
It was funny. I would have taken it off, but I didn’t want it to drag in the dirty snow slush.
Well, I feel sorry for your sweater, but very happy it wasn’t your appendage ????????
Oh gosh, hadn’t even thought of that!
Dementia even. Where’s spell check when you need it?
But it was extra-dementia-ish spelled dimentia 😉
Still weekend for me today & I’m in Cuir Sacre, Atelier des Ors.
You smell wonderful.
I am really enjoying the scent of all the rhododendron fragrantissimum ( big white flowers) that grow so abundantly down here. The scent is very strong and is almost like super strength jasmine that has been soaked in carnation oil, so heady, sweet and a dash of clove spice. It fills the air in my garden. I haven’t ever come across rhodendron as a perfume note and I think the closest thing might be magnolia. Was going to wear epice marine but have gone for a Jurlique rose instead. I saw somewhere that this was australia’s best selling perfume last year . It’s cheap and good.
Jurlique rose products are very enjoyable, in my case, I have a rose essence rollerball, very calming and natural smelling.
That’s the one, a rose oil in a rollerball
I received a feee samole of their facial hydration spray which is so soft and a simple rose. I would love a rollerball of their rose oil!
SSS Champagne des Bois today. Having one of those Monday’s, so at least I smell good.
Hey, we are twins because I am having on of those Mondays too 🙂
Hope on Tues things look up.
A belated thank you, and yes, they did, at least a bit.
I’m wearing Mohur extrait, but kicking myself for missing the reading poll over the weekend. And one dedicated to Neil Gaiman!!! Feeling irrationally grumpy now. Should probably eat something.
Feel free to recommend things here! (Or just post a link to your blog 🙂 )
Hah, well, I would need to start by saying I loved Lincoln in the Bardo????! But I really did, I was completely absorbed and all those fears I had about the book being gimmicky turned out to be completely irrelevant (for me, at least).
I think the most enjoyable thing I’ve read recently was Madeleine Miller’s Circe. I accidentally left my paper copy in the office and had to buy the book on Kindle so that I could finish the last 100 pages, as I couldn’t wait for one day. I think Sally Rooney’s much-hyped books (Conversations with Friends and Normal People) are well worth reading, the same goes for Otessa Moshfegh’s My Year of Rest and Relaxation. All three are very zeitgeisty, though, which is not everyone’s thing.
For those who can do SFF, I cannot recommend N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy higly enough. It is breathtaking and there is nothing else like it. And for an even smaller subsection of people who love highly complex space opera (a la Ann Leckie and Iain M. Banks), I very much recommend Yoon Ha Lee’s The Machineries of Empire series (starts with Ninefox Gambit). It demands focus, but will blow your mind.
I’ve been reading quite a bit of non-fiction recently. On the more personal side, I thought Tara Westover’s Educated was stunning and The Little Virtues by Natalia Ginzburg was a little gem – written in post-war Italy, but with such a modern voice. And I finally read Didion’s The White Album and loved it.
On the more educational side, I’ve seen Factfulness mentioned already. Timothy Snyder’s The Road to Unfreedom is an important book and so intellectually impressive. Harari’s latest less so, but he is accessible and fun to read. If you are interested in space travel, try Michio Kaku’s The Future of Humanity and if you are starting to forget your Greek Myths, Stephen Fry’s Mythos is a lovely retelling.
For poetry: Claudia Rankine’s Citizen (not traditional poetry, I know), Emily Wilson’s new translation of The Odyssey and Wislawa Szymborska. In comics, Saga continues to reign supreme, but Monstress is an amazing newcomer.
And my favourite Gaiman is Neverwhere, because it was my first.
I knew I could depend on you to have a thoughtful set of recommendations ready to go 🙂
(I really really need to get around to Circe asap!)
I say cross-post your list, because people do read them later!
Thank you, I will do so!
In Santal Majuscule which is not behaving nicely today, I have liked it on a previous occasion, there’s a note I don’t care for, some kind of musk, oh well, never mind. Enjoying a bowl of soup I made at the weekend.
I love homemade soups. I’ve got two recipes I’m going to try in the next week or so!
Go for it, mine was very simple: cauliflower, onions and potatoes with a vegetable cube for flavor, but it was very delicious. Our cauliflowers in the UK are homegrown and very good.
I’ve got a new staff member joining my team today, and I’m not in the least prepared for his arrival! If I wear Trayee, I’ll fit the theme and I’ll smell fabulous as I try to look organised 🙂
In bvlgari eau the noir today.. it’s perfect dry woody rose with a hint of incense and oud
I should have bought this, when I saw it on clearance at tj maxx. I’ve never smelled it, but it sounds good!
Boom indeed! Last night, after our concert (which went very well!), we were all hanging out, and the boyfriend said at about 9pm, “So…when are we going home?” “In a couple hours,” I said in a relaxed tone, peachy as a pumpkin. His eyebrows shot up as he said, “But…I have to wake up at 6:45 tomorrow.” And that was when I realized that it was Sunday night and that the following day (today) is a workday. So yeah, Monday came upon me quickly.
Wearing PHI Une Rose de Kandahar today, which in no way abides by the community project but is just the right amount of warmth for a cheerless, smoky Monday (the air quality here in northern CA is much better today than it was last week, but still pretty bad). I want to wear Arabie for said project, but I’ll be traveling to Idaho for work later this week, so I’ll have to find some samples that work instead.
Love PHI, you smell great!
SL VO today. It’s my Friday and I’m SO happy! I really need to win the lottery. Can some one help me with that?
Hey, we should do a NST lottery pool! Is that what you call it? I never play, but really want to win too????enjoy your time off!
Agreed! Wouldn’t that be amazing if we won?! I never play either so stand no chance of ever winning, but I like to dream big!
I don’t know which way to go to get out of all this smoke! I’ve been in a hotel the last few workdays, and was so looking forward to exploring coastal California on my days off, especially Monterey, etc. So sad so many people and animals have lost so much. Thank God for all the first responders who take bravery to a whole new level. From firefighters driving through tunnels of flame, to a nurse trying to evacuate patients with her scrub pants literally on fire, to an MD trying to complete an emergency surgery while the facility was shutting down! People are amazing sometimes.
Wow. Those stories are amazing but also harrowing 🙁
Enjoy your time off!
Allure today from a bottle that was either my sister’s or my mom’s that I kept. I like this. My husband’s review was “Nice. Floral. Basic.”
Shout out to Sylvaine Delacourte customer service. I ordered the vanilla discovery set in early October. It still hasn’t arrived, even though they had the right address. They’re very kindly sending a new set. No idea what happened. It’s really kind of them, given it’s free shipping and the set was so cheap.
They did the same for me! I really liked the vanilla set and finished most of my testers which is rare
I’m wearing Organza today, and I am liking it better than the Organza Indecence I’ve been wearing for years. I got Organza in the Fumerie swap. Off to Trader Joe’s later for their giant chocolate almond bar and frozen pain au chocolat. My chocolate bin in the refrigerator is running low…
Now why on earth did I think ours was a vegetable bin? Chocolate bin . . . .
Vegetable bin? What’s that?
Yeah, someone keeps putting vegetables in the beer crisper, or so my hubby says.
Oh you made my husband laugh!!
You all are hilarious!
SOTD = L’AP Safran Troublant
Spicy and creamy, full credit for the gourmand / not sweet theme!
I also just got and am wearing Aftelier Alchemy, a new perfume from Mandy. She used the materials she had left from the first perfume she made for Aftelier Perfume. I’ve never smelled the original but this one smells like a blend of Cuir the Gardenia without the sharp animalic pitch of Cuir de Gardenia (which I love) and Vanilla Smoke. Well done. It is limited edition and my FOMO instinct kicked in and I bought 2. Also on tap for some other time is Curious – I have a sample of the liquid perfume as well as the EDP.
I’m looking for a recommendation on cross-body cell phone cases that can fit the cell phone and a set of keys (car key fob plus house keys). I would like it to be really flat and unobstrusive and should not look like a bulky purse. Always thinking of a disaster scenario, when one is at work and we have to evacuate, we’re told to leave everything (yes, that means purse) except our cell phone. I always have my ID around my neck and the ID case has a credit card and an ATM card. I would not have my driver’s license with me but I am not very concerned about that since I took a picture of it with my cell phone.
https://www.aftelier.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=LIQ%2DROLLETTE%2DAlchemy&CartID=2
Hajusuuri – Michael Kors has some great cross body bags, some of which are round – although a nice small size , and others are quite flat. The nice thing (you probably know this already) is that in addition to his HUGE selection, you can get these goodies at the outlets for a very decent price. Did I mention that he also has every color under the sun and that some have 2 types of handles for variety?
I’ll check them out. The boutique did not have what I was looking for the last time I was there.
And oh my I was just lemming that Mandy Aftel rollerball – It is pricey but I adore her stuff. You are really tempting me….
She is the high priestess!
She is!
Are you planning to wear it all day, every day? In case you are called to evacuate from someplace not near your desk? If the fire alarm went off and I was sitting at my desk, there is no way I’m leaving without my purse.
Yes. Although now that I think about it, I don’t need to have my car key fob as I can always Uber home and get the duplicate key fob. I will wear a set of my house keys on my workID pouch. Phone wise, I have a Coach x Peanuts collaboration crossbody bag that I could likely use for this purpose.
In an active shooter scenario, you may be told to drop your bag before coming out of the building so better to have it inside the office rather than randomly having to drop it somewhere.
SoTD is QUA by Chris Rusak from his sample pack.
QUA is short for “Quasi un Absurdia”
I had that exact reaction mentioned above in the Jovoy article – This stuff is magic, it is instant love for a green opening, it is fresh and light, like you have been hit full power with a beam of sunlight. There is lily pollen which I think is the cause of that beautiful burst, but this is very airy and bright, not heavy at all.
I am one hour in and it is quieter now and close to the skin. Wow.
(It is 91% all natural ingredients.)
PSA: He is having a special sale for pre holidays.

I just bought his sample set a few days ago and am very excited to try the perfumes.
I hope you enjoy them. Let me know, I couldn’t resist Io, I tried!
????
Taking advantage of having the day off work for the holiday and wearing Arabie for the CP. I smell like all the spices. I just sat down at one of my favorite restaurants for a lunch of fried chicken, mac n cheese, collard greens, and biscuit.
After this I’m meeting my boyfriend at his follow up appointment with the surgeon who performed his appendectomy two weeks ago. It’s very timely since he started having belly pain last night. We think he may have an abcess because they can develop two weeks after an appendectomy, especially for a perforated appendix that he had. Sigh. We have concert tickets tonight for a band we can probably never see again, so he’s quite anxious to be able to attend. The band is Goblin, an Italian synth prog-rock band. They scored the original Suspiria in the late 70s and tonight are performing the score while the movie is shown and doing an additional set after.
Don’t get me wrong, the abcess is worrisome, but we really hope treatment can be prolonged until tomorrow.
I’ve heard of Goblin, since I love that movie. I hope you do get to go, but more importantly, hope they identify and solve your husband’s belly problem.
Ooh nice to see a Suspiria fan here. I love the giallo genre in general.
I want to see the new version; have you?
Yes, I saw it a couple weekends ago. I liked it overall but had some complaints.
First off, that lunch sounds amazing. Second of all, I will be wearing Arabie at some point this week as well. Third, I sincerely hope your boyfriend is able to make the concert tonight but also that his pain isn’t anything too serious.
Thanks, KellyC. His pain isn’t too bad, so that’s good. Lunch was delicious.
Hope your boyfriend gets better soon and you can make it to the concert tonight. Sending positive vibes!
Thanks! We know at this point we’re making our concert!
Hopefully it can be fixed tomorrow!
Yes, it can woohoo!
Update: the doctor wasn’t terribly concerned and said it could be fluid build up. They drew blood and will likely call tomorrow with results or to order a CT scan. He has a fever of 100, which didn’t seem to alarm them. Phew. We’ll deal with whatever comes tomorrow and will go to our concert tonight!
Wishing the BF well! I hope you’re enjoying the concert now!
I’m recovering from two straight hours of drilling at the dentist’s this morning. Sadly I’ve had to have three crowns in a row put on my lower right molars. It’s best to get them all done at once, but meant for a major expense and, now that the anaesthetic has worn off, some major pain. Yow! I have temporary caps for 2-3 weeks while they send out the moods for the permanent ones to be made. Not a fun time, and it’s cold, gray, and dreary outside. I’ve been wearing Camel a lot lately and decided to spring for a full bottle. I need some kind of reward for all this suffering, right?
send out the “molds”–another Autocorrect. I forgot to mention that due to my anxiety, my dentist prescribes Valium, so I did at least manage to get through it without a complete meltdown.
Yes, you do need something for all of the suffering. Treat yourself and feel better soon!
Like you, I also get lots of anxiety when at the dentist office and need to take Valium. I feel your situation. I have an appointment for a root canal and crown next weekend and I am already very stressed. Feel better soon and get that bottle of Camel. After two hours, you DESERVE it!
Sounds brutal, definitely new bottle worthy. Hopefully you have some good pain meds.
You SO deserve a new bottle of perfume, maybe three: one for each crown. I hope you feel better soon. ????
Yikes. I say four bottles!
Lol! You’re the best????????
I’ve been putting off my root canal and crown for the same reasons, anxiety and cost. Two in one day is pretty brave. I hope the pain eases soon.
My sympathy. This is hard. Of course, treat yourself with that bottle of Camel.
I was commando this morning as I had an appointment with the trainer, but now in Chene. Had carrots, jicama sticks and hummus for supper, along with some tulsi tea. Still have the munchies… ????
So healthy! Good for you. I should take a page out of your book. (Risotto and braised lamb chops for me–none of that healthy stuff!)
Well, I have to confess…I had grape Pez for dessert, but I’m trying!
I’m wearing Tokyo Milk Dark Bulletproof today.I keep forgetting how much I enjoy wearing this one.
