Happy 'To Autumn' Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that matches John Keats, To Autumn. (And thanks to happy888cat for the suggestion.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with the almost-apple-pie Ambre Narguilé from Hèrmes.
Reminder: on 11/9, wear a fragrance by Carthusia, CB I Hate Perfume, Comptoir Sud Pacifique or Czech & Speake, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter C.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Hermes Ambre Narguile!
Happy Friday everyone!
You smell fabulous, and a bit like warm apple pie. 🙂
Thank you! You also smell fantastic in Gucci EdP! ????
Yessssss! to Ambre Narguile. Perfection.
It is absolutely beautiful!
Triplets (with you and Robin)!
My first association with this poem was Ambre Narguile.
Hi triplet! Ambre Narguile also came to my mind as soon as I read the poem. We smell amazing!
I love this! I guess this poem has an Official Perfume
Official Perfume approved! ????
All three of you smell perfect! This is one of my favorite perfumes, and my only full-sized Hermessence purchase 🙂 If it weren’t going to be 80F here later today, I’d have wanted to wear that, too!
I agree is delicious and full bottle worth. It is almost on top of my fb shopping list. Hopefully, some day…
I was only able to wear it this week because we are suffering “la gota fria”. ;^)
Koenigsberg! I haven’t seen you in ages! Glad to hear from you and hope you’re doing well, la gota fria notwithstanding 🙂
Keats’ line “load and bless with fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run” reminded me to check my grapevines – rather than eaves, they’re attached to lath-board that hides the under-the-stairs part of our deck out back, and every year they fill out with tiny, dark red grapes that I leave on the vine for the birds. Soon it will be time to cut them back to the main trunks so they can fill out again next spring.
I wore Yesterday Haze at bedtime last night, which reminds me of pumpkins a little. Today I’m in my old friend Gucci EDP, from the squat, clear-glass paperweight/weapon of a bottle. The fragrance is a bit of a shape-shifter, and today it’s more chypre-ish than usual — not a bad thing at all. Happy Friday!
That Gucci edp (from 2002, right?) is a marvel and you smell fantastic!!
That’s the one! STC included it in a you-must-try-this type of sampler years ago, and this is the one I fell in love with out of that set (and am on BUB#4 now). 🙂
Our grapevines mostly feed wildlife too…they are some sort of concord-like grape that were planted to make sweet wine, I’m told.
Our vine was a housewarming gift back in 2005, and I believe they are claret grapes (I still have the name tag somewhere). Hard to believe that a tiny little baby vine in a 4-inch pot grew to take over a 4-foot by 6-foot planting area. 🙂
I am told ours were planted when the house was built in the 1930s — it’s shocking they are still alive given how little care they get! We do hack them back every year.
My local fruit CSA grows such amazing table grapes that I’m tempted to pull ours out and replace them with Jupiter grapes.
What’s a jupiter grape? They sound big luscious and dark like concord- with a thick skin…..
They’re a modern grape out of the U of Arkansas.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jupiter_grape
The ones we get from our CSA are just delicious so they must grow quite happily in PA.
You are an enabler! I just found a mini of the Gucci on ebay and ordered it immediately.
Good morning! I picked Nicolai’s Fig-Tea for the poem; I’m not sure why, it just seemed to fit. It is rather faint on me, which I’m okay with because I might have some new things to try at lunch time…
I went to the most amazing estate sale today! I can usually never go during the week, but I spotted one with a ton of perfume just a few blocks from my work, so I planned to come in a little late today and lined up with the estate sale pros at opening time. I came away with Organza, Zen, Yardley English Lavender, Madame Rochas, and Floris Malmaison for… $10. I weep. I’m rather amped and think it is gonna take all day for me to stop feeling slightly manic.
Woo hoo!
Wow! Wow! Wow! ????????
Congratulations! Nothing beats a bargain.
Malmaison!!! (jaw drops…)
That’s great perfume karma; congrats!
What a great score. Congratulations!
Oh, great job and perfect start to November!
Malmaison!! OMG, how lovely.
I’m pretty sure I only knew to grab Malmaison because of this blog, so, thanks!!
Wow, wonderful! I love finds like that!
Me too – I often feel like I never find anything good, but if you go often enough it happens eventually!
WOW!!!! That is awesome! More vicarious thrill of the hunt with you!
WOW! Good for you! Like most of the people here, I’m pretty thoroughly envious of your Malmaison 🙂 I’ve never smelled it, so please do report back!!
OMG! what a haul.
Nice score!
Awesome!
So happy for you for such great finds at a record price. I live in the country of Malmaison so it’s actually affordable here, but it must be a rarity in the US, perhaps we can compare notes when we wear it.
From time to time I have this amazing dream that I am in an antique shop or at an estate sale and there is a forgotten cupboard stuffed full of old fragrances that no one realizes are there … and I get them all for myself!
Oh Ann, I have the same dream sometimes! It’s a marvelous one, I’m glad you share it.
I have that one, too, except in mine I’m at TJ Maxx, and I round the corner to see a clearance shelf filled with sealed boxes of Gobin Daude perfume, and nobody cares about them but me, and I frenziedly fill my shopping cart with all of the boxes…….
HA…
What a great haul! Do report back on the mythic Malmaison. I’ve never sniffed it, myself.
Egads! What an amazing find!
I’m wearing Epidor today. It’s what popped into my mind when I listened to the poem this morning.
Happy Friday!
Epidor seems a perfect fit.
SotM = Apres L’Ondee
SotA = CdG Avignon
SotE = Ambre Narguile
Woke up craving Apres L’Ondee, couldn’t resist. Samples of old favorite AN and new favorite Avignon will make me happy later today. Happy Friday, y’all!
You will be smelling terrific the whole day! Those 3 perfumes are some of my big forever favorites!
Sounds like a very well planned scented day. You will smell great!
Good morning and Happy FriYAY Y’all!
Fall and winter are my favorite seasons to wear perfume…..especially during the summer I just can’t get away much with the heat and humidity. Three cheers for autumn fragrances! 🙂
I took a huge chance on poking the bear (irritating the Perfume Grinch) and wore Replica By the Fireplace, which smells like a fall campfire, toasted marshmallows and all. It’s wearing a bit strong at the moment, but methinks it will fade to the sweeter side in a bit. Perfume Grinch wants to know who on earth wants to smell like a #%$%^ CAMPFIRE?? HA HA HA HA I do, that’s who! 🙂
Enjoy your weekend! My Senior is competing in her very last Marching Band competition this weekend….kind of bittersweet! The football team is continuing on to playoffs, so she’ll march a few more games, but soon marching band will be gone forever…. (Sniff) 🙂
Hey Perfume Grinch, what’s wrong with smelling like a campfire?!
Lol at the perfume grinch’s comment.
Enjoy your weekend! So many bittersweet moments in that senior year for sure, enjoy them all!
Best of luck to your senior!
I too want to smell like a %#@& campfire 🙂
People who enjoy smelling like %#@& campfires are advised to try Tyrannosaurus Rex!
I will get a sample next time I order from Luckyscent then! YAY! Going on the sample wishlist…. 🙂
OnIT’n
I told Mr. G about your “Happy FriYAYs” this morning, and he misheard me and thought I’d said Happy Fried Eggs. He was puzzled, and I was amused. 😀
I’m so going to say that next Friday!
LOL I would never say Happy Fried Eggs….I would always say Happy Fried Eggs and Bacon! 🙂
LOL! Last night I watched the trailer for Netflix’s Hip Hop Evolution II. Someone relays a story where “Tupac” is misheard as “Tube Socks”.
Joining Jada in a test spritz of Fireplace, because who doesn’t want to smell like a @*^#$%@ campfire?
I am wearing Gorse by Laboratory Perfumes. This is my go to fragrance in the warmer months. It’s an uncharacteristically mild day here, and I dialed into the poem’s bee reference as there is a buttery sweetness to this fragrance that bees seem to like.
That does sound nice.
Serge Lutens Bois et Fruits today- perfect for fall and I think it fits the project pretty well also. This is my favorite of the SL bois scents.
When choosing the scent for the CP, I thought about Bois et Fruits too, but only after Ambre Narguile and Mitsouko.
You smell lovely.
I thought about Mitsouko too, but ended up wearing it last evening instead.
I think that fits perfectly!
Love that one, you smell great!
I’m wearing Mitsouko edt for the first time since last winter. I love this one. It is perfect for cooler fall days.
You smell beautiful!
I just bought my very first bottle of Mitsouko and got it yesterday. WOW….I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I think I was born in the wrong decade as far as perfume goes. I really love the classics. Mitsouko is just soooooo gorgeous!
Did you get the edt or the edt? I have decants of the edp, but I don’t like it as well as the edt. I have samples of the parfum, but I haven’t tried it yet. I am always thrilled when I see another perfumista falling down the rabbit hole that is Mitsouko.
I bought the 1.7 oz EdP (refill recharger bottle?) I guess it fits inside the metal casing that you can purchase. Next time (and I’m sure there will be a next time!), I’ll get the larger more decorative bottle.
Seriously, love at 1st sniff! I swooned. Plenty of perfumes smell great and I enjoy them, but this one was more of an “emotional” response? 🙂 I really love the classics that pack a bit of a punch! 🙂
Love the vintage edp – almost more than the parfum!
Inspired by JaidanGA I am in Clarins Eau Dynamisante
A few Friday non perfume related things:
~I slept the wrong way the other night and now the past 2 mornings I have neck and shoulder pain. It’s very annoying especially when the kids want you to hold them and pick them up.
~I saw the movie A Star is Born last night -very good.
~I finished and The Mountains Echoed. I have now read all of Khaled Hosseini’s books. Like the past 2, I cried in this one too. I am also reading The English Patient again, and I know there will be tears too..
Basically these past two days its been neck pain and crying into a book and I am not complaining because I smell good 😉
Bought The Mountains Echoed at a second hand book store. I really don’t know why I haven’t read it yet, but am feeling very inspired right now!
I would keep a beautiful, maybe scented, hanky close by as you come to the end of the book. I am a softy, but not everyone is moved by Hosseini like I am..
YAY!! I’m inspired to go buy the shower mousse, next time I’m at the Mall of GA!
Have you ever tried a TENS unit? You can get one at any drugstore for about $25….I have gotten immediate relief when I use it. I tend to get a pinched nerve in my shoulder and upper back from time to time, and the TENS unit really relaxes the area fast! Feel better!
I don’t think I could live without my TENS unit. My husband used it a couple of nights in a row when a neck injury made it difficult to turn his head (this is the 2nd time he’s had this happen, and by neck injury, I mean an injury caused by turning his head too fast.) It cleared up after 2 sessions.
I use mine almost every night on various parts of my back, hips, glutes, etc., which are always a mess of knots. I got it on amazon for about $35.
Ah – I reached for my old bottle of Eau Dynamisante the other day. It is well and truly buried at the back of my fragrance drawer. But I always love it! When I was a kid that big red bottle formed an early impression of my wanting to be very French that is still hard to shake! I love that Clarins red!
☕☕☕????????????????????????☕☕☕
Well 2 of the neighbors’s 6 trees have decided to shed ALL of their leaves in the past 24 hours, so araking I shall go on Saturday . ????????
Today I’m getting alot of HAY along with the spices and nuttiness of the Sesame Seeds in Ambre Narguile, reminiscent of the dried leaves.
All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey ????????
I’m not California Dreamin’, but the lyrics are apt. ????????????????????????????????????????????????
????????Clouds but I’m wishful thinking ????????????✌
Isn’t it unfair when the neighbors’ trees can’t seem to just shed in the neighbors’ yards?
I grumped for years when a neighbor’s maple cast its leaves into my back yard… and cried when they cut it down two years ago!! It really was beautiful.
I hear you on the Great Leaf Dumping! A whole lotta leaves ended up in my street this morning after last night’s weather. ????????????????????????
Whenever I see the name Keats I can’t help but get the ear worm:
“A dreaded sunny day
So I meet you at the cemetry gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side”
Why dreaded? I would gladly take a sunny day right about now. I think last November we had 7 sunny days the entire month. Seven.????
SotD is Tea for Two. Smells so much like chai tea to me. My son left behind a box of Chai Spice Black Tea when he went to college and I’ve been making myself a cup in the late afternoon with a teaspoon of honey added. I’ve never been much of a tea drinker, but it’s growing on me.
Happy Friday everyone!
Ahhh the Smiths…..
Shoplifters of the world
Unite and takeover! !!
If only
????????????✌
If only!!
Marr and Morrissey are some of the greatest lyricists of all time imho (but I am totally biased). Just so many great lines.
Rock on Bear!✌️
Ah! I love a good chai!
Yes, I’ve really been enjoying it! I’m sure it’s no comparison to your FIL’s homemade chai.???? What are some of your favorite store bought brands? I have the brand “Stash” on hand, and since I’m a complete tea newbie, it tastes pretty good to me.
I think if you like that chai tea stick with that one. I don’t use chai tea bags because I am spoiled and wait for my FIL to visit.
Haha, I totally understand.
Consider making some yourself! Start with a good black tea you like. Added bonus of making it yourself: You can amp up the flavors you like and mute the ones you enjoy less 🙂
I always have a jar or two of homemade chai “mix” waiting to be brewed (in milk!). Also, though, I’m a fan of T2 Tea Hot Date Chai, if you want a sweeter twist.
Homemade chai sounds good in theory…but…I know me and, I will look for the T2.????
I’m with you, MTG 😉
I know, right?! College memories of listening to the Smith’s over and over jammed into my dorm with my friends…. now that’s fall stuff!
I happen to be enjoying a Chai Matcha Latte at the moment. ‘Tis yummy.
Celebrating fall in Chergui. And can’t wait to start my weekend.
Chergorgeous!
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
May I take that as a reference to hazelnut? If I do, it allows me to wear Angel Muse today. Which I’m always happy to do.
Muse is just soooo good!
Sounds like hazelnuts to me. ????
I also took the nuts as a reference. In SL Chypre Rouge. Red fruits and toasted pecans.
Perfect. We got lots of nut perfumes here today.
I am wearing JM Pomegranate Noir, second day in a row, and drinking a cup of lemon ginger tea.
Perfect scent for this time of year
So today I joined Robin and perfumelover67 in Ambre Narguile. But I feel that Keats had September in mind when describing autumn in his poem. Today’s weather makes me think of these lines by Pushkin (Falen’s Translation):
“The sky breathed autumn, turned and darkled;
The friendly sun less often sparkled;
The days grew short and as they sped,
The wood with mournful murmur shed
Its wondrous veil to stand uncovered;
The fields all lay in misty peace;
The caravan of cackling geese
Turned south; and all around there hovered
The sombre season near at hand;
November marched across the land.”
Love this!!!
Ditto!
Great poem – I hadn’t seen your comment when I mentioned that Keats’ for me is a September poem ;^)
Yes, it’s more like “To beginning of autumn”. 😉
OMG! Thank you so much for this wonderful reminder- I learnt this poem in middle school long time ago.
You are welcome!
When I first read Eugene Onegin at school, I was not particularly impressed. I grew to love this work much later.
Thanks for sharing. “November marched across the land.”
Yes — we did top 10 of fall too early and To Autumn too late!
Excellent poem pick for my weather too. Thank you!
I went with Encens Liquide by Memoire Liquide.
Incense and vanilla and a note of sadness run through this one. The scent itself isn’t sad ( as in bad) but it does make me feel a little wistful for things and times past. Perfect for this week’s CP ( which I have enjoyed a great deal)
Everyone is smelling so good today! Much better than me; I kind of blew it by dabbing on Le Labo Ambrette 9 oil because I couldn’t remember how it smells… Either my sample has died, or I’m anosmic; nothing is really happening here.
Too bad that Ambrette 9 is a miss for you. ????????
Great choice to all of you who thought of Ambre Narguile! I am going to have to copy you later on today.
I chose Ambre Sultan as it is a fall favourite of mine.
Just read that a new Hiram Green is coming out and I am so excited! This time is reportedly a leather and I can’t wait to try it.
I’m excited about the new Hiram Green too! Reminded me that I still need to try Arbole Arbole.
*Pricks up ears* Leather??
OMG that is exciting news about HG!
I saw the article on fragrantica yeaterday about new release from HG- no need to get a sample, as leather is very difficult for me to wear.
New Hiram Green! So exciting!
Ambre Sultan is a favorite of mine in any season.
I picked Lush Rentless for today. It has an autumnal vibe to me, maybe
because the patchouli reminds me of woodsy, dried leaves.
Last time I wore this, my bf said it smelled like cotton candy! I was a bit taken aback, but it does have quite a bit of tonka sweetness, so I can see where he’s coming from.
I am in total agreement about patchouli smelling like dried leaves. Very autumnal. How funny that Rentless smells like cotton candy to your boyfriend. 😀
I’m wearing KL by Karl Lagerfeld EdT, the one with the weird fan cap. I found this recently for a great price and it smells lovely. Thick orange marmalade and spices, a true 80’s oriental. A commenter on Fragrantica said it smells like Bapteme du Feu, which isn’t far off. Still, they don’t make orientals like they used to.
I love this one and wear it every Thanksgiving. It goes so well with all the foods I prepare!
It’s so beautiful, and I understand exactly what you mean.
My SOTD is Jour Ensoleille by Sonoma Scent Studio. It’s the perfect Fall scent to me, golden sunshine in a bottle.
I am headed off to UCSF for my normal procedure, I made a batch of home made coconut macaroons and sugar toffee cookies for my nurses – they take such great care of me!
Everyone have a fabulous weekend! 😀
Good luck with your procedure
Wow, you’re a great patient! Wishing you a non-stressful hospital visit 🙂 You smell wonderful!
I hope your procedure goes well!
How nice of you! Nurses love homemade goodies, or really food of almost any kind (not that I would know????).
Oh my, you smell goooood. Hope the day goes well.
JE helped me change my mind about white florals. You smell beautiful! And best of luck to you! I’m sure the nurse’s appreciate your goodies and that you smell great!
You have set the tone for a great day!
JE is beautiful and does indeed smell like fall, barns, sweet grasses, dried grasses & warm sunny fields….
Best wishes for an easy day, how thoughtful to bring home-baked cookies, they sound scrumptious.
I hope that you are done with your procedure and are now resting comfortably at home. It’s an all-day event for you, isn’t it?
Hi jalapeno, I stay for a few days, lots of nausea a d vomiting from pamancreatitisancreatitis
Oh geez! I am so sorry that you have to go through that on a regular basis. It sounds thoroughly unpleasant.
I’m glad you at least get to wear perfume. I dread even minor medical tests when I know I can’t wear any.
Oops, I was going to wear CBIHP Gathering Apples, but I got my last splitmeet package yesterday, which generously included a sample of Lubin Kismet, so I put that on this morning. Sadly, it’s not my thing–a bit too powdery and sweet. Money saved, I suppose.
Once it wears off, I’ll put on Vetiver Tonka from my desk’s EBP supply!
I remember when all my perfume bottles and samples fit into one l’Occitane box. Haha. I kind of miss those simpler times, when the perfume world seemed to hold infinite promise! Now the promise feels much more finite, and I find myself wondering what the point of making new perfumes even is. What emotion is left to mine through scent?
Maybe I’m just feeling particularly existential because I’ve been sitting through terrifying higher-level meetings all week, where people do official and scary things like scanning badges to keep track of who’s in each meeting, and where people wear actual clothes (nice shoes! slacks! button-downs! no grad school attire or leggings-for-pants there!). If I’m going to keep going to these, I need to up my office attire game and start learning all those acronyms.
Speaking of acronyms… Emergency Backup Perfume?
Yes, exactly! I think I was introduced to the term on Perfume Posse, and I quite like it 🙂
A hip-length black cardigan with shawl-like edges in a cotton rayon blend will class-up many outfits without looking severe. I keep one in the office closet inside a dry cleaner bag.
SOTD is something I rarely wear during the day…Chanel No. 5 Eau de Parfum. Usually, I only wear it to bed. Once again I forgot about today’s theme as I rushed out to work this morning.
I love wearing No 5 to bed! I am very sad that one of my fav vintage bottles is almost all used up. There are days when I think it would be very simple to just wear No 5 all the time and get rid of the rest of the lot!
I went with La Danza delle Libellule for the CP. It has a realistc apple note in the opening that says fall to me.
I almost went with apples as inspiration today too. But then I just wasn’t feeling it when I was ready to put on perfume. ????????
A delightful choice! I think I have a little left of my sample (possibly from you), will have to dig it out.
Not specifically referenced in the poem, but patchouli is a fall scent for me, so I’m in Tauerville Patchouli Flash.
Great minds think alike 😉
I’m not buoying everyone’s choices for today! I went with Bruno Fazzolari Fontevraud from sample #2. This smells very autumnal to me- Dark, but not too dark, with fruits a little past their prime. Dusky but not quite melancholy.
Last day of my staycation so it’s FriBoo for me today, lol. But, it was a good week, got some stuff done and did some enjoyable things, too.
*enjoying!! That was a weird autocorrect
Hurray for getting things done! Such a good feeling!
Uhh, I was uninspired this morning by Mr. Keats (I’m more a fan of Mr. Yeats) but I did manage to come up with an apple for the CP. The bottle, that is. I’m wearing Lolita Lempicka.
Bonus points for thinking out of the box!
I’m in Shalimar today, a “Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun”.
So I think we decided to get married in January. Just something small and intimate but not the courthouse. So in my bits of spare time I’m trying to find a cute chapel and decide what to wear etc. Fun but not fun at the same time haha. And since it will be a winter wedding, I’ll have to decide what scent to wear of course!
Happy Friday, all!
Small wedding with great dress sounds like bliss!!! When I was a little girl, I used to imagine this winter wedding dress with lots of white velvet… ha! Nothing close to what I did wear ( a very inexpensive refined jersey in a pleated goddess cut). Good luck!!
Your dress sounds amazing! I’m thinking white, long sleeve lace top and a dark, pine green tulle skirt! Something like this, except I want the skirt to be a dark, pine green. 🙂
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/520306563197868886/
The link didn’t work for me, but that sounds like a lovely combination!
I am a huge fan of the small wedding. My mother insisted I wear white for mine – she insisted I get married! – and I wore an amazing white lace mini dress. She rolled with it.????
I have seriously looked at white minis! I think I’m going to wear white and green. White lace top, green tulle skirt. Green is both of our favorite colors and I love pine green for winter, so why not?!
Wow, January is not that far off. Someone on the news was counting down the days left in 2018 last night, and it was a “not large” number. Good luck with the wedding!
Thanks! We are shooting for late January but it’s still not far away! Helps that we are looking at something almost elopement style and nothing too extensive haha.
You smell amazingly fantastic!
And congratulations on your upcoming wedding.
Thank you!
Hi jalapeno, I stay for a few days, lots of nausea and vomiting from pancreatitis
SotD is Iris Nazarena.
Its not a match for To Autumn. But its has a romantic vibe to it, I can probably find another Keats poem that fits. 🙂
Oh and yaaaay weekend!!!
Hello y’all
(He lives! He lives!)
Annick Goutal “Ambre Fetiche” here. We are in Malaga, surrounded by boxes and bags from the 3rd and final (and by far the largest) consignment of our stuff. The apartment has indigestion. We were 24 years in our UK house, so we are finding we paid good money to send stuff over here that we unpack and look at quizzically wondering “why did we think we needed this random nonsense?”.
We’ve accepted an offer on the house (which UK folk will know means “maybe in 6 or 8 weeks we might have sold it”). That is, it’s a step forward, but not out of the woods yet.
November is surely too late for Keat’s poem, no? I think of it as a September poem myself. November is just the ante-room for December, the springboard into Winter. But putting that to one side, Ambre Narguile is a great match to the poem – I wore it myself earlier in the week, and enjoyed it immensely. The hot weather here is now over so it’s either long trousers or long sleeves every day, and not too long before it’s both.
Hope everyone is well! :^D
Gidday! Nothing says ‘What the….!’ more than unpacking holed tea towels and oven mitts in a new home . Glad you have made it and good luck with the sale. I hope you have lots of fun and happy days ahead.
I see what you mean about the poem, but this year on the east coast of the US it works because we are just now getting leaves changing. At least where I am. Vivid reds and tawny orange and yellow.
Yes…and we’re still having days in the 70s! October was still late summer this year.
24 years – wow! Before moving cross-country in June we’d done 2 major declutters with tossing and gutting. Then just about everything went into storage for a year. We then decluttered, tossed and gutted all the crap that had been in storage before loading it into a moving truck.
We actually had the opposite response. We’d been a bit too aggressive and have had to replace a few things that ended up at the Goodwill. There’s surely a happy medium there, but it’s unlikely that anyone hits it right on the head.
Hope all goes well and I wish you a load of extra energy that you’ll need!
Good to hear from you, Koenigsberg! So it sounds like there is maybe an end to your tale of two houses? Best of luck in getting your UK house sold!
I am in D.S.Durga Debaser today. PSA – Sephora has a couple of Jo Loves – Lemon Rose and Red Truffle on a pretty good sale.
I always get a spicy baked apple note from Biehl AL02, so that is the one I knew I wanted to wear today. I have a large Honeycrisp (fresh not baked) on the menu as part of my lunch today. The perfume made me feel like I just had to have one!
Biehl AL02, added to my list. I hope the apple tasted as good as you must have smelled.
It’s an unusually warm day here (up to 24C/75F), so I went with one of the lightest ambers in my collection – L’Artisan L’eau d’Ambre.
When I woke up this morning, I soooo wanted it to be Saturday already. Oh, well… Soon. I hope everyone has a quick Friday.
It was 29 today in San Diego!
Chose Wazamba for its apple and smoke note. Reminds me of autumn fires in the garden and sweet fruit. Like it better with each wearing.
Had a hard time picking scents for holidays, finally went with Eau de Merveilles bleu
and Alaia for evening.
That sounds really good and the name is always fun, too ????
I’ll have to try Wazamba again— I recall the smoke, but not the apple.
No match for today’s poem, as I can’t stand fruits and honey in perfumes. Went with Hermes Ambre des Merveilles, it is a very good match for autumnal weather, such a cuddly and fluffy amber.
Perfection!
Fruits and honey in perfume… Thanks for the idea! Perfect day for Botrytis. 😀
Ha-ha!!! Love your comment!!!
I ended up going for Cuir de Russie as I think its mellowness fits the Keats poem perfectly. Truly glad it’s Friday!
PdR Bois de Paradis for To Autumn! Fruity up front and that warm/cool incense thing through the long dry-down.
I debated between this an FM Parfum de Therese. Melon and jasmine should be summer, but it has that overripe quality that makes me think of Fall.
I love this poem and its phases. The harvest comes before the cruel but necessary death before the spring. The reset button of life.
You’ve just reminded me that I haven’t worn this DelRae in a long time, and I do love it so. You smell wonderful!
You smell great!
Are you in the U.S.? Do you have a bottle of BdP? If you’re willing to swap 5 ml from it, let me know how I can contact you with a list of what I could send in return.
I don’t have a full bottle, sadly. Just a sample I’ve been nursing for awhile now. I agree that it’s beautiful.
I think I can squeak my choices in for autumn when I think rainy days, cool temps and reading in bed all day long. SOTD is Smell Bent One with a side dab of AT L’Air du Desert Marocain to rough it up a bit.
Oh, your vision of autumn sounds wonderful! And I really need to get a sample set from Smell Bent. The few things I’ve tried from them have smelled great.
Dear John (Lush) thinking about Fanny Brawne writing to Keats when he left for Italy. The Jane Campion film Bright Star provides the visuals. Another gloomy day here…life follows art.
Must watch that movie. I love Jane Campion so not sure why I haven’t already.
I second this. Haven’t watched that but not sure why.
I love Jane Campion. The Piano was one of the most amazing films I’ve ever seen.
SOTD = SSS To Dream
Reading the poem put me in a fugue state probably because I’m a just get to the point kind of person. To Dream seems like the perfect companion!
Commuting Woes No. 611:
I sat next to a woman who either has not washed her hair in weeks or used a hair product that made it smell like her hair had not been washed in a long time. I can almost feel the accumulated sebum oil migrating. I had no choice but to pull out my White Flower Oil and dab some on.
I didn’t even know such an SSS existed! Sounds lovely.
I looked back at my SSS purchase history and saw that I ordered a bunch of tiny atomizer samples and then a year later, begun to buy the 17 mLs and then 5mLs of the new offerings in batches. In any case, I am almost positive I thunked a To Dream 17mL (with some swapped out) and emailed Laurie when she closed her shop for a short while to get To Dream. It’s a good one and I would have bought all she had left but I don’t believe she had any on offer when she cleared out her stock.
I never get the intentionally dirty hair look…I’m guessing she just hasn’t washed.
That was probably it…everything else about her though looked pretty “normal”. She opened her laptop as soon as she sat down and gave an annoyed sound when someone sat on the other side of her. Really, people. One seat per person tops!
I like To Dream but haven’t worn it for ages… Maybe I’ll do it tonight.
Do it do it. We can be twins ????
SSS has/had a bunch of beautiful things in their catalog. I really like or flat out loved the 3 things I was able to try from them.
Which ones, jalapeño?
Winter Woods, Nostalgie, and Fireside Intense.
Forgot the challenge. Wearing I Miss Violet today because I love it so.
So it’s YR Folies de Saisons Delires d’Automne today, quite lamely because of the name but above all the deliciousness, and as usual with YR discontinued.
Automne: Le deuil de la nature (A. de Lamartine)
The Lamartine poem is lovely even in iffy English translations. And why must YR discontinue everything so quickly? By the time things get to the US, they’re already on their way out.
I had a few picks for today, but ended up wearing Feve Delicieuse. I hoard my mini, and love it so much. I think it’s great for fall.
Feve Delicieuse sounds like it fits the mood of “To Autumn” perfectly.
Finally checking in this week and wearing Equestrian for the CP: “To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees.” This is a favorite perfume this fall, and I’m pleased to say that a fellow perfume fan should soon be selling me 10ml more of it.
It’s been a weird week because of the boyfriend’s appendicitis this weekend. Brought him home from the hospital late Sunday afternoon and took a couple sick days Monday and Tuesday to take care of him. That allowed me to get a lot of perfume sampling in. Monday I tried Boucheron Tubereuse de Madras (Victoria at BdJ included it in her fall faves list), Twilly, and Angel Muse. The tuberose is very well done, Twilly was dreadfully boring, and Angel Muse was fun and predictably still showed up on my skin the next morning.
Tuesday I tested Boucheron Neroli d’Ispahan and Serge Lutens Bapteme de Feu, and Wed I tested Boucheron Iris de Syracuse and Eau de Cartier. Last night I tried Boucheron EDT. I’ve really enjoyed all Boucheron I tried. The Neroli is a candied green neroli, and the iris is a less gourmand Lolita Lempicka. Boucheron EDT reminded me of Lush Sikkim Girls but less dense and powdery. Bapteme de Feu was fine, but I won’t need more than the sample. I had only smelled it on paper previously. Eau de Cartier needs a generous application for me to form an opinion.
Btw all the Boucheron perfumes I tried are available to sample through FragranceNet. That’s where mine came from.
Finally, on Wed I wore L’aromatica Pumpkin Honey for Halloween and yesterday I wore Masque Milano Hemingway because of vetiver discussion here early in the week. I think Hemingway is a must try for vetiver lovers.
I’m sorry that your BF had to undergo the surgery (I hope he’s on the mend now) but am glad that you got the best you could out of it – more time for yourself and perfume testing.
A couple of days ago I did the final testing of Twilly (my sample is done) – and I still can’t see what others get from it. I mean, it’s totally fine, it’s not unpleasant, but I do not find it interesting or distinct enough to warrant wearing. I agree with you: it’s boring. Maybe we cannot smell something that others can?
One of my favorite ways to unwind at night is to crawl in bed and start sampling. I look up notes, reviews, and just enjoy exploring new scents. Now I need to sample Hemingway!
Pumpkin Honey! Wow, now I really want to try this one. (I love l’Aromatica Kulfi!)
Best wishes for your boyfriend’s recovery!
Comparing Tempo and Mistral Patchouli today.
I am trying not to get caught up in all the holiday makeup, skincare and fragrance launches…????
I got my Tempo split this week and can’t understand the comparison to Coromandel. They’re on different planets, to my nose. Mistral Patchouli sounds like a better point of comparison (though MP smelled primarily of black pepper to me when I tried it years ago.)
I went to Sephora today… omg. Hourglass and Bite Beauty were my downfall.
I put on CBIHP Gathering Apples, so I fit the project and the photo nicely! And next week as well 🙂 I did find my Burning Leaves decant, so I’ll save that for next week – hopefully it will cool down a bit so it isn’t too overwhelming.
I don’t’ smell too apple-y anymore – I have a sample of the oil format, so think it’s time to reapply!
Our unspring-like wintry weather continues, this is definitely a Saturday for indoor activities. I’m intending to do the last bit of wallpaper stripping in our bedroom, it’s taken me months, and I will accompany that with some appropriately named Jubilation 25, I will be jubilant when I’m finished 🙂
Ugh, wallpaper. I love it, but it is WORK.
Good Afternoon! Late to this:
1) Am in Uma Wellness Oil in Bliss, and not only is the scent uplifting, it matches the scent and feel of fruit, wind and hazy gloomth.
2) I have a volunteer grapvine that grows along my backyard fence; the grapes are delicious, very sweet but seedy. They taste like concords but are tiny.
Your volunteer grapes sound delish!
I’m in Boston for a conference for a few days. It’s gray and gloomy and rainy and I’m enjoying YR Voile d’Ambre as my tribute to beautiful Golden autumn and today’s challenge. Its beautiful veil is comforting but lush enough to reflect all the ripeness of the earlier part of the season with just a touch of greenness from the garden. One of my very favorite YR scents that suits Keats’ poem perfectly (but for September into October).
A true – and haunting- Halloween night’s tale: I hadn’t seen even a glimpse of Little Bear’s presumed Mom in the more than 6 weeks since I’d found her. I say,’presumed’ Mom, because over the past 3 summers, a beautiful black feral female cat has populated our immediate neighborhood with numerous litters of all-black kittens. Despite our best efforts to humanely catch them and bring them to a shelter, or, at the very least, trap/neuter/release, shortly after they are discovered Mom moves the nest and they are never found. Occasionally, one might see her alone or, as summer turns into fall and the kittens grow, one or a pair might be seen playing on a neighbor’s porch and then quickly disappear. When winter arrives, they totally disappear – do they move on? do they die? – yet when the next summer comes, Mom – is she the original or one of last season’s babies? – returns with new batches of all-black kittens and the story repeats itself. (No Dad is ever seen!). I had just learned a few days prior to Little Bear’s discovery that another litter had been. found, but when I went to my neighbor’s house, she told me that once again Mom had moved everyone and no one knew where.
So, on Halloween night, as I was cleaning Little Bear’s carrier before reluctantly taking her to her temporary week’s home while we’re away, I glanced out the window and immediately looked into the beautiful green-gold eyes of Mom! who – accompanied by a single black kitten that could’ve been Little Bear’s twin – locked eyes with me for what seemed like a moment stopped in time. Did she see her lost baby scampering about the room and long to be reunited with her? What was she trying to say? I like to think perhaps she was thanking me for rescuing her little one. I’ll never know. After a few moments, they both moved out of sight, but I’ll not soon forget those few moments of surreal communication with a beautiful black cat on Halloween night.
Wow, that is a haunting Halloween story. I do love a black cat. My cat of 18 years was black and he was my best buddy.
That’s a great story! I hope you’ll be back home and reunited with your Little Bear in no time.
What a cool Halloween story! One of the cats that I currently have is a black cat, and she is so sweet and affectionate. Hope all goes well with your trip!
Thank you for the great story! It gave me some goosebumps..
My sister had a wonderful all black cat; he was soooo friendly, and also apparently a great hunter!
Oh what a bittersweet story <3 Thanks for sharing.
VdA is a perfect choice. And that’s a lovely Halloween story.
Laila- what a story! Why is it that so many feral cats are black? We rescued 1 a few years back ans shortly after saw about 10 others scattered on various street corners in a small town.
I have seen them on the bike path- many places in various cities. I hope Mom comes back for another visit. Maybe she will dine with you over time!! I always worry about them during the cold winter months.
How wonderful that you care so much about the feral mum, too. I hope you can catch her one day and spayed, then return her to her territory, fingers crossed it’s a sign that she visited on Halloween.
I didn’t think I was going to have anything that fit today’s CP, until I dug deep into the archives and found my saved decant of Caron’s Alpona. Fruity, honeyed, ambery, goodness. And dc’d.
Hope everyone has a fragrant and fun weekend!
I’ll be busy moving next Friday, so wish me luck. ????
Ooof! Best of luck with all that packing and the move! ????
Thanks! The good thing is that we’re only moving 4 miles.
Whew, you must be glad it’s not x-country again!
So, so glad!
Oh good luck! Moving sure is tedious.
Thanks!
More warm but grey weather here. No beautiful golden light of autumn to be seen at all.
“And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For summer has o’erbrimm’d their clammy cells.”
SOTD = by Killian Gold Knight, from the sample stash and a generous NSTer. This is honey and more honey on me. ???? Between that note and the name of the scent, it is providing all the mellow gold that today’s weather is lacking.
Gold Knight is quite nice! It was too warm today.
Sigh, there’s nothing golden at all about this evening — rain, and more rain. But your scent does sound lovely!
My plan was to wear Hermes Vetiver Tonka, for the hazelnut note, and because it strikes me as autumnal. However, it was nearly 90F here today, and the sprayer on my VT sample refused to spray, so instead I’m in Ted Lapidus Silk Way, with its slightly shampooish apple note. The incense might suggest a certain mistiness to go along with the mellow fruitfulness.
I thought about Ambre Narguile, but I have never actually gotten apple from it. I’ll have to acquire a spray sample and apply it more liberally. Roberto Cavalli Oro would have been perfect, if it weren’t for the Santa Ana winds. Have to go now, but will be back later (or tomorrow) to read about everyone else’s choices. Great idea for a CP, happy888cat!
I really like Silk Way. Have never gotten any apple from it, but will now look for it! Nice choice for autumn, though!
Cuir Beluga- just reached for it.
