French niche line Frédéric Malle has launched Dawn, a new fragrance. Like 2014's The Night and 2017's Promise, Dawn is geared towards the Middle East market.
Mystic daybreak.
As night dissipates, so comes the dawn. In the precious moments before the morning sun brings first light, and her first blazing heat, the waking Middle East takes spiritual pause; lyrical call to prayer inspires the quiet gathering of energy for the day ahead.
At the perfume’s core, an abundance of natural oud. Deceptively simple, its magnificent texture is faceted by a host of supporting characters: a refreshing opening of rose and lively pink pepper. Laudanum and vibrant frankincense bring extra warmth as oak moss provides a dark focal point. Diffuse yet powerful, an allegory for the serenity and solitude of the day’s first moments.
A song before sunrise.
Dawn was developed by perfumer Carlos Benaïm. Additional notes include vetiver.
Frédéric Malle Dawn is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

I wonder if this will inch up towards the $2000 mark for a bottle .
I think the small bottle is 650 euros, so not as bad as that. But bad.
I’ve tried either The Night or Promise and didn’t like it at all. I love trying uberexpensive fragrances and finding out I’m not even remotely interested. I did enjoy Malle’s Music for a While quite a bit, and am considering a travel spray of that.
Always a good feeling!
It’s surprising to me that a european niche brand these days (owned by international Estée Lauder of course) still seems to be able to attract attention in the Middle East market in their own territory, i.e. another rose/oud fragrance. Extreme-pricing is part of the sucessful market share positioning I guess.
I’ve always wondered about this. Would the clients in Middle East want something that’s not atypical?
I wonder how the laudanum made it through IFRA regulations. ????
Many modern niche fragrances still use labdanum. Has it been banned?
I was making fun of the typo. Look again closely.
🙂
I knew you would get it. ????
I bought this today in Selfridges in London, a small sample for £48.
I tried several perfumes by this time and could not really properly smell anything at the point of purchase.
A very bad and costly mistake.
I sprayed a bit on my wrist after I left the store and apsolutely hate it. I mean hate it.
I do not like rose in any perfumes (men or women), but maybe if it is mixed well with somehting else it my be palatable. This is definitely not.
Strong and overpowering, smells more like a bug killer then an expensive perfume.
Appologies for the strong lanaguge.
