Wednesday scent of the day 10/31

Posted by Robin on 31 October 2018 245 Comments

Hump Day + Halloween! What fragrance are you wearing?

I am a bit closer to Keats' autumn with Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze.

Reminder: 11/2 will be To Autumn Friday. Wear a fragrance that matches John Keats, To Autumn. Suggested by happy888cat.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Happy Halloween Y’all!

No choice but to wear Prada Candy today….I mean, it’s perfect for a sugar fest day….Handing out candy at work and home. It’s amazing how many coworkers enjoy stopping by for candy year after year.

Have a great day y’all….embrace your inner child and let her/him come out to play as much as possible! I’ll grow up when my age is triple digits…maybe….. :)

I love to give out candy..we go through 3 costco bags of candy (no joke) Even with that last year we had to give the kid’s candy away since we ran out.

I decided that Sacreblue didn’t fit with Halloween so I scrubbed it off(not that I don’t like it) and I put on What we do in Paris is Secret and now I am smell sweet like candy.

I am glad Deciem is back in business as well. I use a few of their products and I love their serum foundation

I’m wearing Rose Cardin today, a $9.99 purchase at TJ Maxx. And actually, outs very good! An anisic start (almost like cardamom) followed by a soft and velvety rose. I am not a rose connoisseur by any means, but the rose I’d most compare it to is La Fille de Berlin. I’ll have to try them side by side when I get home.

I wouldn’t say it was a dupe at all, since Rose Cardin is rather cheerful, but the textures of the roses seem very similar.

My office takes Halloween very seriously, and lots of us dress up (we have contests! and catered lunch!). I will be dressed as a Viking warrior princess, complete with a horned hat and pink muppet fur pelts hanging from my belt, and am wearing Kyoto for its austerity. Will probably go with Yesterday Haze for Friday’s theme … unless my hand wants something else, of course. :)

No worries, J! No, I didn’t win – I got lots of compliments, but none of the contest categories for this year really fit “Viking Warrior Princess”, and there are far too many MUCH MORE creative people than I am where I work. We had a gigantic Mr. Peanut, a team of Harlequins, two “Flo from Progressive Insurance” costumes, someone dressed as the Red Death (I haven’t seen that one yet), and one big, beefy guy came as Miss Piggy (that one was spectacular – very sparkly). So a good time was had by all. :)

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Laura Mercier is currently having a 20% off online, and I think LM counters at Nordstrom’s honor the sale in-store.

While ME is discontinued, LM currently has a spicy/amber floral called L’Heure Magique that is also quite good.

I’m sure you smell all ambery delicious, I have one LM Lumiere d’Ambre which has become a favorite light amber. My only issue with LM is that it doesn’t seem so well curated, so many ambers and vanillas too I think, a bit confusing.

Happy Halloween! Wearing Dzing, which I thought would evoke a Keatsian autumn AND the scary holiday.

If you’re looking for something scary to watch and you have Netflix both Apostle (movie and somewhat gory) and The Haunting of Hill House (series) are both new this month and quite good.

Yeah, after my recent experience with horror films when I watched “Get Out,” I will most definitely be staying away from this. (Because of “Get Out,” my Monday night walk through the dark streets of my suburban neighborhood got pretty scary. I thought I saw men in masks a couple times, but they were consistently just people wearing hats.)

Box of Eels today! Now I feel like I’m on the right theme.

Didn’t carve jack-o-lanterns for the first time in years (Mr SP and I continued carving even after our sons grew up and moved out), but we’ll take it up again next year as it’s my favorite part of Halloween. And we got no trick-or-treaters last year (in our new-to-us neighborhood)–we’ll see what happens this year. I have some Reese’s in the cupboard in case…

SOTD Arquiste 31. Definitely shifting into some cooler weather fragrances. I remember loving the top notes the last time I wore this but was Disappointed by the dry down. I’m hoping my interpretation is different today. The top notes are really very pretty…

Lancome Magie Noire. It was a close tie between this one and AG Mandragore Pourpre for the fragrances that remind me of Halloween.

Have a Happy Halloween everyone !!

Stopping by to say Happy Halloween to everyone! I have been very busy at work lately and also dealing with so many family health issues that are taking my whole time and even more.

Beautiful, sunny day here! Celebrating the day in Olympic Orchids Seattle Chocolate. Perfect to help reduce the Halloween chocolate craving I have. So many sweet around in the office and I already had to stop eating them before I fall into a “sugar coma”! ???? ????????????????????????
    Be well everyone!

Happy Halloweeeeeeeeeen! I can’t believe I’m not doing anything to celebrate this year. Lame.

Still pretty constantly jet lagged. Weird because I’ve been going to bed after 11 and mostly sleeping through the night.

I thought I was putting on Kenzo Jungle this morning. When it didn’t smell right, I put on some more. (Reasonable tactic, eh?) When it still wasn’t right, I finally checked the label properly and discovered that in fact I had put on Nest Indigo. It’s ok; I smell nice, and it’s sweet, which is on theme for Halloween.

Splitmeet news: All decants have been made! They are awaiting the Parafilm treatment before I package them up, but I have high hopes of mailing them out on Friday. Thanks for your patience :)

Aedes Oeillet Bengale for me today, since we will be down near the store later today. Going to see The Tingler, starring Vincent Price. We will be heading right into the thick of the Halloween parade, so we will have to plan our travel strategically. I’ll need to brace myself for the crowds, which is not my comfort zone.

Boy, I like this scent. So good. I’ll be replenishing frequently.

I get absolutely no lavender whatsoever! I’m a bit miffed about that because it might offset the OTT sweetness.

I actually was going to send this off in the freebie/split meet, but they always seem to happen when I’m super busy and just can’t add another task without losing my mind. Maybe next time.

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbits…November here ( if you spend the year procrastinating you wake up one morning in November thinking it should be July). Walking on the hill yesterday I counted 7 rabbits, 2 were black and one very small baby bobbing about. The skylarks were fluttering and trilling ; it was lovely. I am wearing Plum which reminds me both of Autumn and Mals.

So, in the spirit of all things sweet, I am in Anais Anais Premier Delice: chocolate and pear on a bed of flowers. I don’t wear it often but enjoy it once in a while, what is great, it’s not so sweet afterall.

    Enjoy your celebrations American friends!

Amouage Jubilation 25 this morning, for the opulence. And this cold dark Halloween evening, how could I not wear some of Reek Perfume’s Damn Rebel Witches?

To liven up my hours in the study, I have taken to feeding the squirrels and birds directly outside the window. I live in the basement, so the deep windowsill is pretty much at ground level, providing excellent cat theatre too. Some of the local creatures have now learned the meaning of the particular creak of the window handle, and come hurtling over to the snacks within moments of putting them out. So, there great swirls of over excited squrls! (We are up to four regulars now.)

And then there are the magpies, who get into shouting matches with the fancy-tails and with the cats. Small cat sings excitedly and dances in the window, while magpie chatters and swears at her, something along these lines:

birbbirbhellobirb! oh birb birb birb hi hi hi! hello birb! hi!
CAT! bad! go! bad! cat! MINE go BYE cat! no! bad!

(I need to get out more)

TF White Suede. Used up a small decant, because some of it leaked in my handbag. Nice scent, but had to reapply often to be able to smell it.
I like the Bottega Veneta better. Cheaper und better lonevity…
Halloween is not a big thing in Germany, so no costumes or festivities for me. Also have to work tomorrow, so bedtime as usual.

Our town restricts Halloween to 2 hours, 6 to 8 pm, so it is not a late night activity here either — at least, not for kids.

Halloween used to be my favorite holiday, but I’m too unmotivated to dress up now. Takes me long enough to pick out perfume and work clothes, but I had some fun costumes in the past.
Went cat trapping last night, which felt Halloweenish since we kurk around in the shadows at a late hour. Trapped a female who had kittens a couple of months ago of which only one survived and we got her adopted and she’s doing so well! This teen mom will have no more babies!
SOTD is Dusita Issara and will be done with this sample soon. Nice, comforting, thought I needed more of it, but now I don’t think so.

Halloween used to be my favorite holiday also until my nephew grew up and I lost some of interest in it. We used to decorate the apartment, dress up, go to the parade and have lots of fun with him and the rest of the family. These days as you said it is enough work to choose the daily perfume and clothes to be worn. Still I watch some scary movies and enjoy all the movement I see outside. It was nice though here at work today with some people wearing costumes and we had a fun Halloween lunch!

I am glad to hear the cat trapping went fine and the female cat has now a real home that welcomed her!

Awww, fun! I honestly never celebrated with children! It was more just dress up parties in my 20s and 30s. But I do enjoy seeing the kids dressed up on the street- so cute! And some of their parents out there tonight had very elaborate, creative costumes.

Well, we got her kitten off the street a while back, but this little lady is getting spayed and put back out on the block from whence she came in a couple of days. Too feral for a shelter or adoption. A very kind older woman feeds her and her buddies (who all eluded us last night) every day.

I’m in Noir de Noir which seems like a good name for a Halloween perfume! We have a serious Halloween bash at my work. Tons of food and costumes and such and everyone really participates. Fun times. I brought an amazing dip and a spiked punch (yes, people were warned it was spiked)!

It’s my first Halloween in the house here in NM so I’m curious how many kids I get tonight. I probably bought way too much candy, but I’d rather give out too much than too little! My fiance is out of town for work though, so I hope I don’t spook myself out watching scary movies alone tonight ha!

I’m wearing CdG Black for halloween. Hard to say how many trick or treaters we’ll get, sometimes a lot, sometimes just a few. It will be a nice evening of reading for me anyway, as I will sit downstairs by the door and husband will be upstairs trying to keep the puppy entertained and out of trouble. :-)

In Mohur from the splitmeet – reminds me a lot of the other Neela Vermeire’s I’ve sampled or maybe it’s the Ducharfour signature.
At any rate, I’ve been meaning to ask you all about Guerlain’s Liu – I got a tiny sample in the swapmeet, used it and fell in love. Sample said “Guerlain Liu, discontinued.” Boohoo!
But I realized there isa Liu under the Les Parisienne line. Is that the same scent? I don’t mean Lui, I mean Liu.
    Thanks and Happy Halloween!

Another gorgeous fall day here! I’m waiting for the first trick-or-treaters to show up. I haven’t heard or seen any of them yet. ????

I had a pleasant dilemma for my SOTD. Do I go spooky, or do I go sweet? I did sweet yesterday, so today I went for spooky.

SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Fireside Intense. Lots of bold leather and campfire smoke in this one. It smells very autumnal to me, just not quite in the vein of Keats’ poem. I like it! Another successful blind buy!

Was in a Sephora yesterday and noticed that they have adorable 1-oz versions of Hermes Un Jardin sur Nil and Un Jardin sur le Toit.

Online today I am noticing they have a Garden Collection Coffret Set with 7.5-ml minis of all four of the Jardins.

Tried Twilly because of Luca Turin’s 5-star review, but it just smells very generic to me. Either LT is hallucinating, or maybe my nose is hyperosmic to the musks in a way that obliterates the tuberose and other notes he describes.

SOTD- Miller Harris Tea Tonique, a decant from splitmeet. I was excited to receive my package and contents didn’t dissapoint. The frag is lovely, cheerful and bright mix of citruces tempered by the tea note. Love my new decant and big thanks to Nancyleandros for hosting a split!!!

I wanted to be Halloween themed, so I wore Bruno Fazzolari’s Room 237 for the first time today. It had the completely opposite effect of what I expected.

My husband, immediately after spritzing: “Wow, you smell amazing! That smells so good on you.”
15 students: “You smell so good today!”
My husband, 10 Jair’s after spritzing: ” Yum! You smell like Turkish Coffee! Can you buy a bottle?”

Why does the perfume designed to be unsettling and horrifying seem to be my perfect match? What the heck is my skin doing????

Happy Halloween everyone. Read a scary story, pull the covers over your head, and enjoy the evening.

Hello peeps, better late than never! When I don’t check in daily, I feel like I’m missing a member of my family.

    Catch-up report of SOTD:

Monday – Diana Vreeland Daringly Different. This was my Sniffapalooza purchase. Iris, leather, woody, Tonka bean; Fragrantica lists rose but I can barely detect it. More is more with this one. Ask floragal what I was doing throughout lunch at Sniffapalooza.

Tuesday – SSS Equistrius. Apple, leather, resins. Because Deva and it meets the challenge!

    Today – Tauer Dark Passage.
