It's Almost-Friday, and happy birthday to Nancy Cartwright! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm running late (again) in Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille.
Reminder: on 10/26, step out of your comfort zone by wearing a perfume that you find challenging. Suggested by lucasai.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
PSA for Ebay…10% off w/ code PICKUPTEN good through tomorrow morning…no affiliation…kind of low vs. 15% but at least no minimum.

Going to try L’Aromarine Vanille today for the first time…
I’ve been waiting for an ebay promo. 10 beats nothin’. 😀
I got a sample of L’Aromarine Vanilla with an order not long ago. IIRC, it reminded me of Cologne of the Missions. Cheering you on in your vanilla quest!
Thanks for the code! 10% is better than 0%…..
Finally! Thanks for posting–I’ve been waiting for a code 🙂
L’Aromarine – I forgot all about them! I used to have their Cherry Blossom, which I loved. Such pretty bottles.
Oh, no, I do not hear you. lalalalalalalala 😀
Oh no, I mean, thank you! I have 3 items in my cart right now but I’ve already made other purchases today so let’s see if I can narrow it down.
Uh oh, I might to write on the board next!
I’m in Gucci Envy ( for women). This one is almost impossible to find these days; I can absolutely imagine distraught ladies buying every bottle they could find. On me it is lovely, but not as strong as I usually like for work.
I found it at a swap several years ago and gave it to a friend who loved it.
It’s good stuff but not worth the price, personally.
Is this one you recently found? I’m always envious of people who still have some Envy.????
Even rarer, actually! I found the Envy yesterday on my lunch.
Where?!
I took a long lunch and went to a discount store. It was only a 30ml tester, but it made me happy to see!
I’m wearing Mechant Loup, which I like. It is out of my comfort zone in that it has both star anise and licorice, according to Basenotes. Along with vanilla and fig, anise or licorice are among my least favorite notes.
I struggle with licorice too! Don’t like to eat it or smell it….
That’s a great idea for tomorrow. I got it for the boyfriend and I love the hazelnut note in it, but I share mixed emotions on licorice.
I think Mechant Loup nearly qualifies as a comfort scent for me 🙂
I’m with you on that–yuck, licorice!
Not a big licorice fan, but I really like Mechant Loup….surprising. Maybe I’ll pull mine out today!
I think you smell great, liquorice is soft in this, and it’s very nutty on me.
I am way out of my comfort zone. I bought Vengeance extreme, a rose patchouli. I sniffed it in an odd mood and bought on the spot. I only wear it about twice a year.
Ah, that would be way out of my comfort zone too!
Today’s SOTD is Halston Couture, another big bone-dry woody/chypre, with notes of oakmoss, patchouli, jasmine and rose. I wish I had shoulder pads to match this perfume.
Happy almost Friday schmoopies! 😀
Schmoopies! 😀
This schmoopy loves a good oakmossy mix….. 🙂
Me too! 😀
I just clipped some shoulder pads out of a vintage jacket. Wish I knew you were in the market for some, and I’d have sent them to you! ????
We used to pin foam bra inserts into shirts that didn’t have shoulder pads. The desperate measures of teenagehood ????
Oh, I have plenty of those foam bra inserts! I should try that out sometime. ????????
Oh, I bet it’s great. Giving you virtual shoulderpads 🙂
I’m wearing Bois d’Encens (Armani), the fragrance that reconciled me to incense. It took me over a year to decide whether I wanted it or not, but have no regrets at all about my bottle.
Thanks to everyone’s well wishes yesterday. Feeling a lot better, although still sipping tisane.
Glad you are feeling better!
Glad you’re feeling better!
Hurrah for feeling better!
I’m having a “hello old friend” moment (a la tiffanie) in Gucci EDP. I sprayed from the older, gigantic squat glass cube that I’ve been saving (I usually prefer the taller, smaller bottle because it fits in my hand), and it’s just lovely.
Nice 🙂
Good choice. I could stand to wear the old Gucci EDP one of these fall days.
You smell wonderful!
oh! how marvelous, I’m glad you had that moment! 😀
You smell(ed) marvelous today.
I am wearing Chanel No 18 and drinking a cup of Breakfast in Paris tea.
You smell terrific Robin 🙂
Why thank you! And your tea sounds delicious — I love Earl Grey with lavender.
Right smack in the middle of my comfort zone in Eris Night Flower, a powdery vintage oriental. I’ve been waiting for cool weather to wear it. It’s sunny and beautiful where I am, but chilly.
Recently my Surface 3 bit the dust and I need to replace it. Prior to that I had a Surface 2. They were both frustratingly slow, crashed all the time, and drove me freaking crazy but I love the design – small, uber-lightweight, with a removable keyboard, and perfect for travel.
I’ve talked myself out of buying another Surface product (ish – we’ll see…) but I have no idea what to replace it with. Does anyone have a tablet-sized PC laptop that they love and would recommend? I need something small and lightweight enough that I can throw easily into my purse (said purse being neither small nor lightweight 😉 ) but “big” enough to have multiple apps running and a screen of the size that my bifocal-wearing eyes can see.
Lurking on this post because I’m in the market for something similar. Have been using an older macbook but I’m looking to replace it with something smaller and cheaper. Macbooks are more computer than I need and I can’t justify the price.
I had been considering a Surface for the same reasons you mentioned, but you might have changed my mind.
I’ve been holding on to my Surface 3 for dear life; it’s been good to me. I don’t know what I’m gonna do when it bites the dust.
I’m seriously considering heading for a sea change on the desktop front, though – utterly weary of Windows, irritated with Mac expense and micromanagement, I am thinking of moving over to Linux. I simply can’t switch operating systems mid-semester, but it might be manageable over winter break.
Anybody use Linux?
I use Linux for work but wouldn’t use it for home because the application software simply isn’t there. Really just figure out what programs you want to use and find out if they are available for Linux or not, in order to determine which OS you should use.
I was just in bestbuy last night looking to replace my old and beat up laptop. I bought an off brand (acer) for a good price with excellent independent reviews. I’m embarrassed to say I bought it with the intent of not only work stuff, but also gaming. Like I’m 17 or something ????????♀️ Diablo 3 is out and I loved Diablo back in the 90’s and spent many a good hour playing with the fiancé and friends. My brother also got into it, and there are many times I (accidentally) killed him off while trying to save him from creatures. Freud might make something of that ????
As far as light and portable, what about getting just a tablet? Or would that not fit your needs..? I looked at the surface too, but they’re expensive…
Acer is a fine brand, they sell tens of millions of computers a year. I’ve had a few over the years, should be fine for you.
I bought a Dell XPS 13 and I adore it. It is very thin and light, works great, costs much less than the Macbook Air (my husband does love his Macbook Air, I just won’t pay that much). I do throw it in my purse, but I carry a big purse.
Its only serious drawback is the webcam — it is located in the lower left, making it virtually useless. I don’t use it anyway so I don’t mind, but if that’s an issue you won’t want a Dell XPS.
Since I bought it, my expensive tablet is pretty much used as a Kindle and nothing else.
(Then again, if you’ve been using a tablet, the Dell might be more than you want to spend. I just waited for a good discount.)
+1 for Dell XPS for the price and size criteria….
although to defend Macs, I have a 6 year old 13” Mac Air which still boots up in 5 seconds. Macs last a loooong time. I never saw a HP or Dell last properly 5 ( either the battery goes to die or they become super sluggish). My HP at work is 3 years old and had more issues than tiny Mac ever did.
My 2 prior Dell laptops had short lives, it is true! I’ve had this one since 2016 and so far it’s fantastic, but of course that is not so very long. I do think the build on the XPS is better than on their budget lines, although it does have a tendency to run hot.
Oh, nice to hear XPS is better.
Otherwise, I think depreciating a Mac over 6 years or a non Mac over 3 , is fairly equal. Just higher cash-out at first. 🙂
Thinking personal expenses just like I’d think a work one 🙂
I went through this last year when my Lenovo Yoga died prematurely – lemminged the Dell xps 13, which is really small and lightweight, took a look at Acer, which does come in at a good price point, but ultimately bought a refurbished MacBook – super lightweight, small, and the refurbished one was cheaper than the Dell. My family says they hear way less swearing coming from me now when I sit at my computer. However, if you type a lot, it turns out a small keyboard is not as great as a bigger one (duh) – I hadn’t thought about that.
Aren’t there also some pretty capable Samsung tablets out there? And for price point, perhaps a Chromebook?
I loathe Apple in principle, but in practice, find their products to be WAY better than PCs. I went over to a MBP some five years ago and don’t see how I could ever go back. I have a Thinkpad for work and HATE IT SO MUCH. My 1.5yo Thinkpad is way inferior to my 5yo MBP.
If you could find it in yourself to get an iPad, perhaps with a keyboard case, perhaps the giant version, you might find your needs met.
I guess I should admit I tend to follow practice over principles….
…and I quit buying Apple products after having been a devoted customer for years and then getting the WORST MAC EVER. Absolute piece of junk, crashed incessantly, and Apple’s response was a shrug. At least it didn’t catch on fire, which happened to my friend’s MacBook. Not to say that Windows PCs are flawless, I’ve had my share of issues there too, but at least when they die they’re cheap to replace.
…and as someone who designs CPUs for a living, I know full well that Apple products and PC products use *exactly* the same chips under the hood. Can’t bring myself to pay double the price for the Apple logo. Nope nope nope.
It’s not the hardware I object to. It’s the OS that runs on it.
Ditto for me and MacOS 🙂 that was the cause of my crashes: a MacOS update. And every update thereafter made it worse. I’m paying double for this? Not.
I let my husband talk me into buying a MacAir after using a PC for 25 years and I loathe it. The only reson I still use it (rarely) is because I paid so much for it and he says it’s less susceptible to viruses. But I will never buy another one.
TWINS!
The comments on the Surface have been of interest to me. Not in the market anytime soon for a computer or tablet (knock on wood), but I have had a mild interest in a tablet for traveling. My laptop is too big to travel with easily, especially in airports.
ELDO Fils de Dieu etc….. Such a great savoury rice scent. I get hungry sniffing my shirt….
THE best ELdO, in my opinion! 🙂
You smell great! I bought a decant of this last month and I wish I’d sprung for a bottle instead.
You smell divine!
Ack! I bought a bottle of this at 50% off from Birchbox when Undina (I think) posted a PSA, and STILL waiting for delivery!! You smell fantastic!
Dune, again. I’m working my way through an older mini bottle that’s lasting a surprisingly long time, considering how frequently I wear it. A little bit goes a long way.
That’s for sure… vintage Dune lasts for days. You smell great!
“Thou shall occasionally impulse buy unsniffed, even though you know better…it’s the thrill of the 1st spray that makes me do it every now and then!” -Jada the Perfume Geek 🙂
Still in a cozy comfort scent mood, so I went for Chanel Allure Edt. Just soooooo snuggly!
You smell great. I almost did Allure today.
Agreed! I still love to buy unsniffed occasionally, and I usually get it right! 😉
I am definitely well inside my comfort zone: SL Fille de Berlin.
Love that one. You smell great today.
my favorite rose. great choice!
Lovely…this has become a go-to scent for me.
Wearing Mugler Aura for the CP. An interesting scent no doubt, but I kind of feel like I am gently being strangled by a tropical liana. Especially for the first hour after application.
I sampled this at Ulta recently and I also found it aggressive (though it probably didn’t help that I had Alien on the other arm, plus some Angel that I accidentally grabbed and spritzed).
Oh wow! What a combination! You are brave. 🙂
I sampled this at Ulta recently and I also found it aggressive (though it probably didn’t help that I had Alien on the other arm, plus some Angel that I accidentally grabbed and spritzed).
Good morning all! Breakfast is oatmeal, gussied up with almond butter, TJ’s apple granola and flaky sea salt. Nom nom ????.
Tea is vanilla bean, last tea bag in the box. My tea collection rivals my perfume collection, so it’s a satisfying thunk.
I thunked a bottle of Lavanila Vanilla Lavender last night. Second FB thunk of the year.
I’m in L’air de Rien today, a risky but successful blind buy. It’s all warm, spicy goodness on me, however, I don’t think it would be good for the gym.
I love that Bart pic! The only thing that would make it better would be a bottle of Jicky in his back pocket in place of the slingshot!
I really like L’Air but do get a bit of dirty sock funk- so, perfect for the gym ???? You smell great! Mostly it smells like old, dusty books to me, which is very comforting.
Yes, this is borderline comfort scent for me. It’s like it sinks in and becomes a part of my skin.
L’air de Rien is a top 5 perfume for me. In fact, it may be the only perfume I can definitively say is in my top 5. It’s like walking through a barnyard with your head nestled in the neck of your lover while carrying a stack of old books.
I love your description! ????
You smell wonderful, l’AdR is like a second skin for me.
Testing Le Labo’s Patchouli 24. I’d heard this was a leather scent and expected to dislike it, but I’m actually really enjoying the almost camphorous patchouli along with the leather and a sweet note. It’s up there with my other LL favorites (Ylang and Labdanum).
LOVE that cartoon! My husband will really appreciate it as a pretty serious Simpson fan.
SOTD: Dior’s Ambre Nuit
I hope they never discontinue this one as it’s my perfect amber scent. Just love it!
I adore Ambre Nuit! You smell wonderful.
I’m wearing Signorina from Ferragamo, which I have very mixed feelings about.
On one side, it’s too sweet and girly for my tastes. It would have been too girly even when I was 14 🙂 and it lasts forever on me too!
On the other, it’s the first Christmas present I got from my boyfriend, back when he only knew I liked perfume, and not much more than that. He got it advised by a mall SA. I find it a very sweet memory.
That is indeed sweet!
Very cute story!
Awwwwwww! Adorable!
Thank you ????
Today I’m wearing Nomenclature Iri_del.
Like?
Yes, I like it a lot.
Good, glad it is finding fans. I don’t hear about the brand much here at all.
SOTD is Lonestar Memories.
I was really challenged by this when I first smelled it (ca. 2009, I think), but I stuck with it and grew to love it. I do sort of wonder what people think when they smell it on me, but then again I wear perfume for myself, not others. (Yes, I’m anti-social in that way 🙂 )
I’m antisocial in that way too, as well as other ways????
Ha, me three.
Me four!
Ok, since we’re being counted, me five!
And… six.
Seven! I love it so much. And I also wear perfume for me. My current students don’t care for Bois Farine, which makes me wear it much more frequently.
I’m in NG Or du Serail from the Splitmeet, and it’s delicious! So happy I got into this split (and happy to know I do not need a full bottle)!
At the dealership getting some work done on the van prior to hitting the road next week. Brake lights are out and I’m hoping it’s not an electrical because the electrical harness is buried behind plywood and shiplap….????
Best wishes for the van work, Deva, I’ll follow your trip with interest.
Thank you, but my travels may be less interesting than imagined. ????
Hope that it is nothing serious with the brake lights Deva.
Just needed some bulbs, thankfully. So weird because this vehicle is less than 2 years old and every bulb in the back end has had to be replaced (brake and turn signal). I had my FJ for eight years and never had to replace a single thing (other than routine stuff like tires/battery). ????
Yay for simple repairs! Are those bulbs the incandescent type, or LEDs? Some types of incandescent bulbs aren’t very sturdy, which sounds kinda stupid given that they are being used in a moving vehicle.
It’s cold out, but a perfect dry and sunny day Fall day. I’m wearing Cavern NY Atrium perfume oil, which smells like Fall incarnate. Fresh greenish woods, smoky, balsamic goodness, with a hint of orris. Not too sweet or syrupy, which is often what happens with ambery scents on me.
It only lasts about 4-5 hours, which is perfect since I’ll want to switch it up tonight for a show I’m excited about seeing: Ukulele Cabaret (a uke group) performing the entirety of Rocky Horror ???? Should be a hoot!
Ukulele Cabaret performing Rocky Horror made me smile just thinking about it!
I know! I can’t not go.
Sounds like fun! Hope you have a great time. That oil sounds wonderful…!
Thanks! I love this oil-forgot to mention cardamom!
That oil sounds really good.
I went on to FB and shared the event with another friend who plays uke. Right up his alley too.
I recommend the oil.
Oh, great! I hope it’s as good as it sounds.
That show sounds like a blast. Will you be dressing up? ‘Tis the season…..????
I know! I would love to but I’m going to a meditation thing right before that and would feel too weird there. Even in NYC.
The show sounds so fun!
I’ll let y’all know how it was!
The show sounds really fun! Enjoy!
Thanks lj!
Enjoy the show, Elisa!
I hope to, Aurora! Thanks!
Looking forward to hearing your review on the show! Have fun!
Sounds like fun. I hope you have a great time!
I love SDV! You smell fabulous Robin. Woke up super late today and just applied Ubar. Ubar is challenging to me. I don’t get such a big bug spray note so much anymore and I am starting to love it.
Glad someone else slept too late, and you smell delicious too!
Wearing something completely unchallenging today–Ormonde Woman. I’m recovering from a cold, and the hemlock/evergreen cuts right through the blocked up sinuses.
You are right – there is certain sharp edge to Ormonde Woman. Beautiful and edgy is a great combination.
You’ve made me think I might wear that tomorrow. To me it is challenging. Need to pull it out and give it a try again.
Smelling awesome.
I’m testing L’Artisan Violaceum from a sample today- thought it might be challenging because I often have trouble with leather notes. However the leather is very soft, more like suede, and the violet is gorgeous. This will probably end up on my FB list- I’ll have to check the discounters because it’s pretty expensive.
That does sound awfully nice — and the newish limited edition Deyrolle bottle is so darned pretty.
Oh, those bottles are amazing!!!
Yesterday I decided to wear Embrace by Habibi, a sample that was sent to me by a lovely NST’r during the freebiemeet. I was quite apprehensive about wearing it because it was a “men’s” fragrance, but after looking at a few reviews, mostly on FragranceNet, I chose to step out of my comfort zone and boy, was I pleasantly surprised at this fragrance. It was a beautiful scent that had just the right amount of ‘sweet’ in it to keep it firmly in the unisex territory. One of my co-workers, upon my walking in the door yesterday, immediately asked ‘who smells so nice around here’, and I piped up, ‘Me, that would be me’, with no small amount of pride in my voice, lol. It lasted pretty much thru my whole shift but wasn’t overpowering and I can still detect remnants of it. Well done Habibi!! 😀
????for the compliment!
Nice!
Accidentally commando, for I woke up at 7 today to my husband saying “don’t you usually leave around now?” Out the door in 5 minutes and I’ve never been so grateful for my nighttime bathing habit. Gonna dip into the desk stash later!
Eek those kinds of wake ups are the worst!
I’ve had too many of those recently. Impressed you can get out in 5 minutes!
It helps to keep a toothbrush in one’s desk ???? I’ve put on some Lonesome Rider and it’s great!
Yikes, up and out in 5 minutes is a jolt to the system!
I do nighttime bathing too – saves me so much time in the morning and I actually get to enjoy the shower
Totally unchallenging today in Boyfriend. My second time wearing it since I got it unsniffed. Heading out for lunch and to see “Wings of Desire” later.
I haven’t seen that one in a really long time, but I remember loving it! Enjoy the film, and let us know if it holds up over time.
My first time seeing. It holds up. Fully restored. So beautiful.
Was just talking about it Saturday with a friend who saw it Sat. I should get over to see that. I love that film.
It’s a new-ish digital restoration if you have seen that version. Very well done.
Slumberhouse Norne this damp and gray morning.
You smell amazing.
No scent yet….it’s my gym workout day….but later I will spritz one of the two new items scored from my local thrift shop:
By Kilian travel sprays (both full), Liaisons Dangerouse and Forbidden Games!!! Sorry Bart, unsniffed, but at 1.99 each I could not say no!!!
Excellent score!
$1.99! What an amazing deal for those!
Nice!!!
Holy tomoly! Now that’s a deal!
Whoa. That’s amazing!
Wow, that is some SERIOUS perfume finding mojo!
As my grandmother used to say “You can’t beat a deal like that with a stick!” Great score!
I’m wearing a new long, cardigan sweater that I know I won’t wash after every wearing, so I wanted to wear a perfume that I wouldn’t mind lingering in the sweater. No challenging scent for today. I chose 28 La Pausa EDT, one of the few perfumes I can use 10 sprays of on a workday.
I do that too, on sweaters and jackets I know I won’t wash right away.
I love La Pausa edt and usually need 6 sprays:)
Though I love many Guerlain scents (Shalimar in all forms, Vol de Nuit), there are a few that are still challenging to me and/or just not me. L’Heure Bleue is one of them and I am wearing a few dabs of it today. I try and love it, but it just isn’t there for me.
Perhaps it depends on what version of l’HB, I love vintage Parfum de Toilette but don’t get along with the new extrait.
Doctor put me on antibiotics today, and I’m off work until Saturday. It stinks because I have to use my vacation bank to cover the days I’ve missed. From a sample, I’m wearing Volutes, and wow, I love this! It reminds me of something from the perfume past, but I can’t recall. KellyC, if you haven’t tried this yet, I think you would like it.
Are you in the edt or edp version? Sorry you’re feeling icky AND have to use vacation time for it. That stinks, but you smell great!
It’s marked edp. Is the edt alot different?
Ugh, I’m sorry to hear that you needed antibiotics! Hopefully that will get rid of your rather nasty-sounding crud. ????
Yuck! I hope the drugs start working quickly.
SOTD = Oriza Legrand Chypre Mousse aka Eau de Crypt
Smokey, earthy, mushroomy and chestnutty. Love!
Tomorrow’s challenge to find a challenging perfume is challenging ????
To Chipotle patrons:
Does the order of ingredients placement to you matter?
I got lunch at Chipotle today. I try to limit it to once a week. I always get the rice bowl and the serving line has an order to the ingredients. In my opinion, there’s a reason for the sequence, including dry, wet, layering mouthfeel, and fluffiness (to close the lid AND for the appearance of volume). While my food was being assembled, the next ingredient for me was the mild salsa and it was in the process of being replenished. The server asked if I wanted something else further down the sequence and I said Yes, the corn, but she has to wait until she was able to scoop the salsa in first. OMG, it was as if I asked her to pay me based on the incredulous look she gave me! Anyway, when the salsa came (within 20 seconds), she scooped barely a tablespoon so I had to ask for more (another tablespoon went in) and I asked for more again. She realized I will hold up the line until the quantity was right and finally gave me more than the normal scoop on the third go around.
I guess I don’t care as much about the order of ingredients, but she shouldn’t have given you attitude about it.
I love The Crypt (and as an Anti-Social I totally support your choice! :D)
I’d sit beside you any time.
You smell great!
(I am with you on the challenge of challenging… am staring at the shelf wondering about this, now it’s Friday.)
Hello from Iceland! No scent today, and very tired because we tried (and failed) to see the aurora borealis until 1:30 and then were awoken a few hours later by a godawful squealing in the heaters that continued through morning. I was feeling pretty negatively towards Iceland this morning, but I’ve really had the most splendid day today, involving a calf, a baby horse, stunning earthquake-induced scenery, a splendid geyser, swimming in a hot spring pool, the most beautiful waterfall I’ve EVER seen, and some really amazing ice cream on a farm. Seriously, this ice cream was so rich and creamy and full of flavor. It’s definitely in my top five best ice creams ever. And the cone was probably the best I’ve EVER had. Really! It was like a dessert in and of itself. I need to up my cone game.
I might put on some Camel tonight to warm my toes, which froze as we walked along an icy path barefoot to cool down from the hot spring pool. They still haven’t quite thawed.
All sounds amazing, Koyel, except the frozen toes.
That’s a perfectly fair assessment 🙂 that and the smelly hot water (it smells of sulfur because it comes from the naturally heated springs all over the island). I highly recommend a trip if you haven’t been yet!
The natural scenery and the hot springs sound wonderful, as does that ice cream! ????
It was all wonderful! If you like outdoor beauty, I can’t recommend Iceland enough 🙂 I already want to come back!
In patchouli bomb Ylang 49–someone else wore it yesterday which put it on my mind.
Cat lovers, I have a question (NST has some serious overlaps with cat canoodlers): Our old, crotchety, hilarious, very smart cat took a turn for the worse yesterday and we had to euthanize him. It all happened within about six hours. I am doing okay actually–he had a good life and was a ton of fun, but such is life having pets. But my older son is absolutely bereft. Truth be told, the cat was really mostly his in that it slept at my son’s head every night and hung out in his room when he wasn’t outside terrorizing birds and deer (cat not son). My son is 17 and not one for ceremonies or “processing.” Any advice on what I can say or do to cheer him up?
So sorry. Like you said about the cat having had a good life and perhaps something about getting another in good time.
Blurgh, my comment is free-floating below.
I am sorry about your mog. However old and grumpy they get, it’s always too soon. I am not sure how to make it easier for your son–I still miss cats I lived with years ago.
I will definitely miss this one. He would jump up at door knobs and try to turn them with his paws, and meowed a thanks once you opened the door for him. Neighbors are always sending me pics of him in their houses, frequently stretched out on their beds–he really has/had an issue with doors and boundaries!
Ah, one of *those* cats. (I had to change the window fastenings in one house, after Kitsune mastered the two-paws-required window catches and would let himself out for his daily charming-the-neighbours visiting rounds.)
Mourn with him. Tell him you’re sad too. I know it’s awful to not be able to fix it when you see someone you love suffering, but it is a normal, healthy response to losing a creature you loved.
Sorry about your cat. I agree with Elisa P in a kind of allow life to go on and not demand too much in terms of talking through feelings etc…while being there and open to talk. Sometimes a bit of bleak humour helps to release bottled up emotions.
So sorry to hear about your cat! We are currently dealing with a cat in sudden failing health (as if this year hasn’t been bad enough already, chez Pixel). Very sad.
Agree with the others… he’ll have to process it in his own way. I think all you can do is be there when/if he needs you.
I’m not a ceremony kind of person myself, but making a collection of favorite photos helps me. I mean, it makes me weepy, but it is a comfort too.
Sorry about your kitty too!
I’m not sure there is anything you can say or do. It’s just hard. Especially when there’s such a close relationship. I’m so sorry but hopefully he can gain some joy from such sweet memories.
I’d say to let your son mourn in his own way. There is no rhyme or reason to how that process unfolds, and it takes its own time. Let him know that you are there for him.
So sorry about your cat, I lost two dogs this summer and it helped me to put together a photo album and write lots of memories down in a journal. But I would leave it up to him to decide what, if anything, he wants to do.
I really don’t have any wisdom — just lots of sympathy…
Adding my sympathies for your car and your son’s grieving, Oakland Fresca.
There’s a lone bottle of Kelly Caleche EDT on the sale table in town. There is no tester and the shop has stopped stocking Hermes so once it has gone it has gone forever ( the price is cheaper than anything on trademe etc.) i finished a bottle of the EDP a while ago but have never sniffed the EDT….what would Bart do? I like leather and wonder if EDT is too pale?
Gris Clair for morning low cloud and drizzle, cold. Actually, make that Daim Blond ( both blind buys). Time to get up!
I have Edat and love it
I’ve only tried the EdP, so can’t say what the EdT is like. But I would be sorely tempted…
What happened to the article about the two new upcoming releases from D.S. & Durga?
They were called Amber Kiso & Amber Teutonic.
I misunderstood what they said when they sent the press release…they don’t want that information public yet. So the article will be back in a few weeks I think. Sorry about that!
So sorry about your cat, but glad he enjoyed a good life.
Well, more from my professional perspective than from my cat-loving perspective, I would just let him be sad-normal grief is a process and everyone expresses it differently and it usually runs its course. Some people like to do things like rituals, writing etc. and some people don’t. I would just give your son lots of love (which I know you do already) and let him know you’re there to talk about it if he wants. I think talking about it yourself out loud, your feelings about it etc, may be helpful also. Sort of role modeling and not avoiding the subject.
Totally agree. And would add that everyone grieves in their own way on their own schedule, as trite as that sounds, so give it lots of time.
You are right. I just feel bad that he is so sad. I think it was the shock in part. The wee mister has been a little thin and arthritic for so long, it was normal for us. My son was used to folks constantly predicting the cat’s imminent expiration–was not actually believing it would happen one day.
My sympathies to Maison Oakland Fresca.
Wearing a chypre today: Alix Gres, and it’s behaving very nicely.
I looked that one up and it sounds great. I love so many Eighties scents.
It really is a lovely green chypre to my nose, with an interesting development.
First wearing of Rhubarb My Love this morning from a sample set from The Zoo. It’s entirely unlike anything I have ever worn before. You know that iridescent, almost glittered sheen you get on the pink surface of rhubarb stems? It’s that, in a scent. And the mouthwatering acidity. It’s a *sparkly* bright and zingy thing, and put a pep in my step. Who knew?
And now it’s cold and blowy and dark–dark! by 6pm! argh!–and I’m wrapped up in a big scarf and wearing Coromandel and wondering where I put all my fingerless gloves because I’ll be needing those before the week is out…
Ooo, I have a sample of that. Must try soon…
would love to know what you think when you do try it. I might save it for the most miserable days–the ones where it barely gets light and the rain is going sideways–for some instant brightness.
That rhubarb sounds great, and I’ve been wanting to try The Zoo. I thought their sample sets were pricey ($49) until I saw that you get six 5ml travel sprays!
Aye, it seems like a lot for a sample set, but that’s 30ml for under 50 bucks… and whether you end up loving them or not, I bet you find them interesting! Chris L. seems almost incapably of pedestrian work.
PSA + splitmeet offer
1. Olfactif now has Neela Vermeire travel sets marked down to $63. Mohur, Pichola, Trayee, and Ashoka are currently available. I bought their last set of Bombay Bling travel sprays, which leads me to…
2. Split offer of one Bombay Bling 15ml travel spray for $39.50. I paid a total of $73 ($63 for a set of two travel sprays + $10 shipping) / 2 = $36.50 + $3 for me to ship to you = $39.50.
Please dibs here and then email me at gmail my NST username.
Wow, thank you for the heads up! Going to try to get Trayee – that has been on my list for a long time!
I hope you were able to get Trayee!
I think I did! I put it in my cart and was poking around the site – then it was “unavailable” – but was still in my cart so I checked out – I won’t feel confident until it arrives at my house
🙂 thank you so much for the heads up!
Dibs! I would love this. Where can I email you?
Okay I see how to email you
SOTD- Eris Night Flower- one tiny spritz on the wrist. It is challenging for me and the only skanky perfume I have in my collection. It is addictive though and sometimes I wear it to bed in very small amount:). ENF is often compared to Shalimar on fragrantica- I don’t really get the comparison, as I loathe Shalimar and it smells like dirty socks on me (hello sandalwood!). Big Thanks to a wonderful NSTer who sent me a decant of NIght Flower a whole ago!
PSA: fragrancenet has Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir for $138.59 with 37% off coupon. 2 bottles left. It has been on my to buy list for a while, but I am not buying anything for a while now due to the new baby coming:) Maybe someone will find this info useful.

Pity, it’s already sold out. 🙁
Sampling Zoologist T-rex today. Mmm, smoky leathery. Reminds me a lot of La Curie Larrea.
I love this and will almost certainly get a mini when my sample runs out. Wore a little last night. I find the opening challenging – it’s really got some bite to it – but the drydown is just heavenly campfire delight.
Same for me. I fully expect to want a travel spray after using up my sample.
I’m waffling on the travel spray. I do like it, but as I said it seems an awful lot like Larrea to me. Only Larrea lasts longer. And I already have Larrea…
You just gave me an idea for tomorrow!
Wearing Anne Pliska today. The only thing difficult about this fragrance is the accompanying weather since I prefer it in chilly to cold temperatures.
I have a decant if this somewhere!
And I think I may have a sample lurking in the Sample Stash!
Love AP! I may break it out tomorrow, although it’s supposed to be 80F here…????
P de E Azemour. Smelling a little Eau de Glade Air Freshener. Thunk!
Hi ScentSpirit!
Well, At least it’s out of your life now! (unless you really really like Glade 😉
More sunshine today! ???????????? I think this might be the last sunny day I see for a while, though. Mope.
Two of the cats decided that they would follow the example set by Koyel’s cats today and threw up on the carpet… on two separate floors! Ugh! Seriously??? I thought we had an agreement!
Back in line with the community project again today. SOTD = JM English Oak and Hazelnut Cologne, from the sample stash. It smells like a masculine woody aquatic on me. And aquatic scents are difficult for me to wear as a general rule.
Forgot to mention: LOVE that picture of Bart Simpson! ❤
That one didn’t work for me either. Today was the last of our sun for awhile too. ????
Maybe your forecast will be less gloomy too?
I have the hazelnut one as well as the red currant. I think they’re meant to be layered and I think doing so may negate the aquatic note. Must experiment!
Run the experiment! ????????
Not fair of the kitties to double-team you like that!
I’m mourning the loss of the sun right along with you and Lillyjo…
Looks like the latest long term forecast for me isn’t quite as grim as it had been. Sun will hopefully re-appear next week.
SOTD Tempo, my husband can still smell it on me, and thinks it’s great ????????
Your husband is right, Tempo is great! ????
In an effort to use up my excessive amount of samples, I sprayed the remains of a sample of Kerosene Unspoken Pleasures and realized it had gone off a bit. Time to toss any dodgy-looking samples.
The store made samples are the ones that end up looking dodgy with the oil separating from the al Khol.
Commuting Woes No. 607:
A woman behind me kept pushing me as I was boarding the train. I finally shoved back once I was safely inside the car. She had the audacity to say I was squeezing her. Really? How could I squeeze her when I had been in front of her this whole time? So I just said, No, YOU squished me a-hole! It always seems to be small-statured-people who seem to think they are small and thin enough to slip through the cracks between people. They forget that their purses and tote bags take up space too AND some have the mistaken notion that they are slim.
SOTD was Beloved. The animalic notes may be difficult for others but it’s pure beauty for me.
I just sampled the new Le Labo Tonka scent. I didn’t leave it on for long but I mostly got vetiver. It seemed pretty simple and rather boring. I agree with ElisaP on this one. I wouldn’t bother going out of your way to test it.
I didn’t find Beloved difficult at all when I tried a sample. It felt like the perfume equivalent of a hug. Lovely!
????
SotD = l’air du desert marocain
kind of the opposite of the project, this is one of my never-fails-me perfumes, tho i bought it unsniffed, so there’s that! Bart and I have a few things in common, LOL
L’AdDM is gorgeous! Definitely the right time of year to bring it out where I am at. Although I might consider it a 4-season fragrance…
laddm never fails me! 😀
