It's Tuesday and it's World Food Day, and Oscar Wilde's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm having my second cup of tea (boring old English Breakfast) in a dab of Sarah Jessica Parker Stash SJP.
Reminder: on 10/19, for Family History Month, wear a fragrance that someone in your family wore, or that reminds you of someone in your family, or that reflects your family history in some way.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Layering Mitsouko over Gres Cabochard
Sip of the day is Cappuccino
Mmmm, Sounds intriguing – I love wearing – have you tried this before and what do you think of the results?
My first time trying and I love it!
Using up these samples…
Will try this too, Love Cabochard, which i wore today.
Love the photo Robin… That one reminds me of pictures in my mom‘s album from around the same time – but on the other side of the world in Philadelphia.
Sotd Samsara
Still feeling that retail pull, and trying to resist!
Have any of you made your own perfumed shower gel? Can you recommend a neutral shower gel base? I’ve made scented body lotion with success, using neutral base and letting it marinate – I think it would help me resist the retail pull if I could come up with perfumed trios ( perfume, shower gel, body lotion) to replicate all of the gift sets I’m not buying ????
I love the look on the face of the young boy in front, holding his cup of tea.
me too….it sort of says “just so you know, we don’t always sit in the grass in lace holding tea cups” 🙂
And “I’m ready to go play now.”
The retail pull to buy Samsara?
No, I gave in to Samsara last month (even though I am on a self-imposed no buy)
Just feeling that general fall/pre-Christmas retail frenzy
Also, maybe you could try to buy Xmas presents early, some scented, and hopefully it would take the edge of the retail pull? I may follow my advice myself 🙂
My guess is Dr Bronners unscented Castile liquid would be a good base. I was Thinking of doing that too.
I’ve been making my own shower gel and hand soap and I use Dr Bronners Castile soap. I mix it with water, jojoba oil and essential oils. The results are great. Make sure to use distilled water as the shelf life is longer, around one to two months.
I’m wearing Dame Chocolate Man, and smelling like good-quality bittersweet chocolate.
oooh, yummy! 😀
I am currently eating 4 squares of chocolate. 2 are 82% and the other is 70%
Chocolate!!! May I join you? 🙂 Although I may need more than 4 squares, once I start eating chocolate I finish at least half a bar … I have no self control 🙁
Wearing sample of Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme. Unlabeled, so I thought it was something else. Oh well!
I don’t find English Breakfast boring, Robin. Not exotic, I guess, but tasty and soothing. Good for Monday’s ugly little sister!
Well, boring because I drink it 5 days out of 7, so like reporting the same old thing? But I like it too, obviously.
Also in Tom Ford, but Santal Blush here.
SotD = Alahine, for the first time 😀
Wowza, this is a beauty! I put a few dabs on the back of my hand and feel certain I will waft all day long.
If you like roses with some oomph, and dare I say va-va-va-voom, this is perfect, sumptuous really. It also makes me think “old school” perfume, so it’s a nice fit for this week’s hearkening back to olden days.
Many many many many thank yous to the lovely NSTer who graced my mail box with a scented samples parcel yesterday. I’m verklempt. 😉
OH! and this morning I finished reading Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. The ending made my cry. Twice. Written as YA fiction, it is tendre honest sweet and compelling. Read it with an open heart and mind. You’ll be glad you did.
You smell fabulous, tiffanie! So interesting that you get roses from it – I don’t at all. I get amber and florals, but there’s no way I could suss out one flower over another in it.
Lucky, I guess? because the roses are very pretty. And well-blended with the ylang, to me that’s the va-voom, and the other notes too
Thank you for the book recommendation! I can’t wait to pick that up.
oh, do enjoy reading it! It’s a treasure. 🙂
2nd this! Just added it to my list
and I just found out Lin Manuel Miranda reads the audio version of Aristotle and Dante. Now I’ll need to listen to him read the story and cry all over again.
Thirded! In the lineup!
You smell wonderful.
thanks, KellyC! Alahine is very special 😀
Putting it on my wish list (the book)
Glad you are enjoying Alahiiiiiiine.
I treasure and covet my bottle
yay! for reading Ari & Dante, you’ll enjoy it I’m sure. I’m happy to now be a member of the Alahine fan club. 😀
Lovely book recommendation!
Wearing Derring-Do from Ineke in honour of my Grandparents who packed up their lives and their children and sailed from Ireland to land in PEI. That took a lot of Derring Do
The scent itself started off as a soft, pretty citrus floral, but has quickly degenerated into a ho-hum semi-floral freshie.
Oh wow. Did they stay in PEI?
I’ve been watching old episodes of Finding Your Roots, it’s just fascinating.
Robin, I was born and raised there, left to live in Alberta, South Korea, and China, then settled in Nova Scotia. 99 % of my LARGE extended family are still on PEI.
Nice. My family is very flung out.
I love PEI. It reminds me of the southwest atlantic coast of France. So peaceful and I love being on the ocean.
It was a great place to grow up, but if you want a job that doesn’t involve a primary industry, not a great place to stay.
Great historical background, and nice frag, too.
Kenzo Jungle L’Elephante today. A metallic shimmer of spices and dried fruit. I’m celebrating the first cool weather of the season; it feels amazing!
Love a spritz on a coat or scarf, but full on treatment (who does the 8 sprays?) with this will “clear a room”.
I did a good 6…. But I waited about 30 minutes before even leaving my house. 😉
Me, but only with selected perfumes… Like 28 La Pausa EDT and the last time I wore it, I +2 ????
Now I’ll remember!
I have been considering a blind buy of this one for weeks now! The notes tick all of my boxes. Enjoy your cool weather!
Mine was kind of a blind buy, but it was a 30ml travel spray so it was low risk.
Same with me, 30ml travel spray, I couldn’t commit to more as there is a smidgen of cumin, my dreaded note, in Jl’E.
I didn’t know this existed! Ok, now I need to go seek this size out.
If you don’t like it, I’m sure it’d be easy to offload in the following swapmeet 🙂
You smell amazing!
You smell wonderful! What a great perfume 🙂
I’m in MDCI Promesse de l’Aube, and Mr. G has complimented it three times already this morning. I think he likes it. 😀
Three times would be a record in my house! Nice!
It would be a miracle in my house. My husband’s version of a compliment is: “Is that a new dress?” Notice the lack of actual compliment there. (He thinks he gets a gold star for noticing that it was NEW.)
Nice!
I love that one too, it’s rich and exquisite!
Had a horrible day at work yesterday. And that while wearing TDC Bois d’Iris – what a waste of good perfume! In Fille en Aiguilles today and so far, so good. 🙂
Sorry for your awful day yesterday. I hope today is as fabulous as you smell!
Sorry for your horrible day- hope today is better!
Boo! Glad today is not wasting the Serge 🙂
Thank you for being so kind. So many people comment on this, but the people on this blog are really NICE! And that in these times is such a rarity. Doing a quick visit here is like a hello to a neighbour over the proverbial fence. Just a quick check-in, but then you feel better! Have a great day, everybody!
Good, that’s how it should be *somewhere*.
Sorry about this, today is another day and you were smelling lovely on both days.
Hoping for a good day. We know it’s good smelling…
You smell great. I love both TDCs Bois d’Iris and Fille en Aiguilles!
Sorry for you horrible work day yesterday.
I hope you were still able to get some comfort from the fragrance you were wearing.
Maybe you can wear TDc Bois d’Iris on a day where you will be doing something fun/exciting/wonderful?
I hope today was much better!
Oh I love this poll idea. I’m wearing Idyllwild, though, which doesn’t match it, but smells good.
You do smell great Elisa!
Well I am feeling rather proud of myself today, as I saw yesterday that someone had mentioned the Birchbox sale, and very almost pulled the trigger on Dasein Spring, but decided to wait and try my sample once more which I am wearing now and you know what? I like it very much but I do not need it, even at half price. Probably. I think. I do really want to try Autumn and Winter, since I love Summer and like Spring a lot.
I loooved Winter – the opening features my favorite pine note ever.
Good for you!
(How was the women’s protest/thingie/patriarchy topple?)
Nicely done with Dasein Spring! Money saved for wuv, truw wuv! ????
Out of town for a quick visit with my maternal grandmother, or “granny” as we all call her. Spent the day on the road yesterday and showed up at her nursing home as a complete surprise. She was so happy and surprised to see me, it made me a bit teary. I don’t see her nearly as often as I’d like. Miles and life have gotten in the way. Our bond is deep though. She was just 41 when I was born, the first grandchild, and we spent lots! of time together when I was a tyke. Her short term memory is not what it used to be, and in a few months she may not remember that I came to visit. So I will take pictures, and I will do the remembering for both of us.☺️
SotD is Eau Premiere. Classic and beautiful, just like my Granny.
Your story made me cry and made me miss my Granny. She passed just two years ago at the age of 98 and it broke my heart. She was also in a nursing home but I was able to see her every couple of weeks. I’m so glad you are able to spend time with her and brighten her day!
So glad you could spend some quality time with your granny. Eau Premiere is beautiful.
Lovely!
What a nice story about your grandmother. Grandparents are such a blessing. Maybe always wear the same scent when you visit? Could trigger memories.
Very sweet story!
Aww I love this 🙂
Aww <3 glad you get to have a little more time with her!
I teared up a little after reading this. Good tears.
I didn’t get a chance to comment until now, but this made me cry while I was eating lunch. All the love to grannies!
I’m in Dzing! today–it’s like a little trip through the barnyard to candyland on me. I save this one for days when I’m at home and I can sniff my arm off and on all day without looking like a weirdo!
That’s what I do!!
I wear this at work. Nobody complained …
Oh, Oscar Wilde. Not going to lie, I had the hots for him as a youth. His sexual orientation was, I’d venture, less of a barrier for me than the fact that he’s been dead a long time.
Today is Day Two of Project: Jet Lag, and accordingly, I woke up at 6:15, 45 min before my usual wake-up time. That was hard. I don’t even want to think about how hard tomorrow’s 5:30 wake-up time will be, or worse, Thursday’s 4:45 >.< I know many of you wake up early regularly, but ugh, time before 7 is just awful.
I smell absolutely gorgeous in Passage d'Enfer. A number of people discussed PdE yesterday, both positively and negatively, and it just reminded me that I hadn't worn it in weeks. So I had to fix that asap.
Ha! Koyel, you made me laugh. Nothing to up the tension for a teenage girl like having a crush on a dead gay writer… And the stupud spell checker helpfully fixed your name to “Hotel”….
Ahaha 🙂 It’s true; teenage crushes are stressful enough under more realistic circumstances!
Heh, I’ve seen that convenient autocorrect before >.< usual in the form of messages that begin, "Hey, Hotel!"
Thanks for the laugh! That’s a wonderful 3-sentence story!
🙂 Well, I’m pleased to have amused you!
LOL on the Oscar Wilde!
I can’t resist a witty man!
LOL! Honestly, death was not barrier to me when young when it came to swooning over literary and movie stars!
It barely is now, even though I’m an adult 🙂
Hehe I used to feel the same way about mornings, but my wake up time has gradually gotten earlier. It’s crazy to me that I can feel basically ok after waking up at 5:45 every weekday. Weekends I do sleep in though, usually until 8-9.
Yeesh!!! Well, good for you! I started feeling better about life by ~9am, and it was nice that I had been at work for ~2 h by then and had managed to get a lot done in the quiet office. Tomorrow, when I wake up at 5:30, I’ll think of you and your strength!
There is a nice biography on Oscar Wilde by H Montgomery Hyde in the Penguin Classic series. My absolute favourite in the same vein is “Gertrude and Alice” about Gertrude Stein and Alice Toklas. That was such a cozy and odd little biography – I felt as though they could have been my own eccentric great-aunts. The biographer obviously felt great affection for her subjects. The Oscar biography is a bit more objective and cerebral, but in all fairness Wilde wasn’t a completely likeable character.
I think his terrible end makes us forgive his weaknesses, such a touching case of sic transit gloria mundi. Many thanks for the info about the biography.
I guess I didn’t realize he was unlikeable? I was in love with him for his wit and his tragic end. I guess I didn’t know much about the in between.
This is hilarious ????
Glad you think so 🙂 My youthful crushes never felt like matters of hilarity at the time!
When I was in 9th grade, my boyfriend looked EXACTLY like a young Oscar Wilde. If you ever run into a 42 year old man named Jess who grew up in Calgary, know that a) he is a wonderful person and b) he really truly looks like Oscar Wilde.
Obviously, this confused me for a long time after 9th grade.
Ahahaha oh how wonderful 🙂 I will most certainly keep that in mind!
I’m in Theorema today, cuz it seemed like the thing to do. ????
Oh, yes, I might put that on later too!
I am wearing DSH’s Ouellet Rouge, a wonderful dense carnation scent suitable for 32 degrees and a wool sweater…
Meredifay, send me an email about Durga. I have a tip for you. ???? My NST username at gmail.
And you’re smelling nice today!
I’m sure you smell great even though I don’t know the DHS, I love carnation.
Oooh you smell exquisite.
Mmmm good. It is so dense it gummed up the 3rd atomizer.
PSA, those red Chanel bottles are available on their website NOW. I ordered mine yesterday! It is due to arrive on Friday! I will have a long chat with Donatella next quarter, that’s for sure. The holiday ‘opportunities’ are destroying what little willpower I ever had.
Continuing working thru my 7 Virtues sampler today. No winners so far, but I can tell you for sure that Vanilla Woods is Vanilla Cedar, ’cause the vial was broken in the box when I received my order, and the whole box — and now the whole bathroom — smells of Vanilla Cedar 🙂
Oh, hajusuuri, thanks for posting the link to the hilarious cat photobomb over the weekend. I forwarded it to a friend who is sitting at her dying father’s bedside, and it made her smile, which she sorely needed.
Vanilla Cedar sounds quite nice actually. The red Chanel bottle is very pretty but I’m not a No. 5 girl. Now if it was Coco, I could be tempted. 🙂
Ditto! I like number 5 but if it was Coco I would be all over that.
Which did you get?
No 5 L’Eau. Truth is that I like the scent but don’t love it, but a red bottle? Yes yes yes!
I can’t wear No 5 itself since that is my MIL’s signature scent. Even though I like it, it feels like wearing her clothes.
I have been wondering how that bottle looks in real life — looking forward to your update!
Oh no, they have l’Eau in the pretty red bottle? I quite love l’Eau (and hate the original). Now it’ll take me even more willpower to not buy it.
That’s why I can’t wear No.’5. It’s my mom’s clothes.
Congrats!
I’m not usually much of a bottle person but the red Chanels are stunning, imo.
My SA at Nordstrom will hold one for me so I have a little longer to wait.
I’m glad the photobomb link helped your friend during this very difficult time.
Just finished my Friday and very happy to be heading into a 4 day weekend????
In celebration, I wore BoE last night and this morning, there is a lovely lingering residual.
Finally streamed the new Dr Who and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Didn’t think anyone could top the Tom Baker Dr Who version that I grew up with, but the newest iteration seems like it may be the best since Baker. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
And, nothing to do with perfume, but I’m working with a great group of young nurses who are being pushed into roles they are not comfortable with. Most have been RN’s less than a year and they are saddled with charge nurse duties, not to mention very complex and sick patients on a cardiac specialty unit. About half are already looking for a way out, but feel trapped by student loans, single motherhood situations, etc. It’s very sad and disheartening to see that they get no support from management either. I’m glad I’m near the end and nowhere near the beginning of my career. They’re a great group of young adults and I love working with them because we always find a way to have some good belly laughs during our shift.
Shame about the young nurses being overloaded. Hope they can find another job that is more suitable. My mother was a charge nurse on CCU but that was well into her career, when she was experienced and equipped for it.
I’m glad you’re working with such a great group of nurses. I hate to hear how stressed they are, though.
Sounds like they need a union.
They’re not always helpful, unfortunately. When I worked nights as a float, I would occasionally get sent to units for which I had no experience (post partum and pediatrics) and the best they could offer was I could refuse and risk suspension.
I bet they get a lot of benefit from your experience, Deva.
Ugh, I remember those days and glad I’m done with them. Enjoy your 4 day stretch!
That’s a shame to hear about your coworkers’ situation. I remember “everyone” making a terrible fuss about how nurses were in short supply a few years back. Crap like that certainly won’t help.
I am not feeling my perfume mojo lately, due to hormones and stress. Nothing sounds good so I may give it a skip today.
Hugs to you. Hope you feel better soon. I was swearing this morning about how much I hate hormones…
Oh, I thought you might be wearing eau de puppy breath? ???? Hope the new addition is settling in and providing a bit stress relief. ????
Yes, I’m sticking with eau de puppy breath. Being an obsessive worrier I am now worrying about her diet and vaccination schedule.
I hope you feel better soon
Passing you a cup of warm calming tea! Sending you relaxing thoughts. For your hormones have you ever tried taking evening primrose oil?
I did, unfortunately it made me nauseated. I am using some other herbal remedies to try and help.
Feel better! Sometimes perfume helps in stress situations, other times it is good to take a break from your habit and recharge your senses. Find something that brings you peace and comfort, stress will be over soon, the bad things don’t last. Hugs to you!
I definitely have those days, too. I hope it passes soon!
Sometimes commando is the way to go even for a perfumista! I’ve had days like that too.
Aww. Nothing wrong with smelling like yourself once in a while 🙂 sorry about hormones/stress though.
Thank you all for the kind comments, I know it will pass, it is mostly impeding my productivity and joie de vivre at the moment. Puppy cuddles and some herbs should help keep me going while I wait it out. I finally managed to spritz on some Sarrasins.
Cuir de Russie for big meetings today. Had to be at work at 6:30 (which is basically torture to me) but CdR is hanging in there beautifully.
Dang, it’s cold in New Mexico, folks! Hoping it warms up later in the week.
That really is torture, especially when followed by meetings! Good luck.
I’m with you on that being torture! ESPECIALLY if you had to start talking to people at that hour. I like to have a couple hours of awake time under my belt before I have to start talking to people >:o
Nervousness after a job interview went down by now. In my opinion it went well. I mean I’m happy with how I answered the questions but you never know what’s inside of interviewer’s mind.
It didn’t have impact as the interview was on Skype but I still wanted to smell good and adequate to the situation so I wore Prada Infusion d’Homme.
Good luck! I’m sure you were very impressive!
Thanks
I’m sure you did well but keeping my fingers crossed anyway! And always good to wear scented fortitude! 🙂
Absolutely right
Lucas, it’s funny to think you could have been wearing SL Muscs Kublai Khan and they would never have known! I imagine all your experience with blogging, visiting the perfume trade shows, and interviewing perfumers has helped prepare you well for job interviews, whatever the medium. Good luck!
Right!? Even the bazooka-caliber perfume wouldn’t scare them away because the interview was online.
Nothing like knowing you smell great to help with confidence!
I bet you amazed them!
Tuesday!
1) World Food Day: quick Psa: Please donate to your local food bank if there is one in your area. Veggies and fruits are usually highly requested.
2) Showered today in Aromatics Elixir shower gel and topped off with Cap Neroli- surprisingly nice with a cool, sunny morning.
It was easier to remember the food bank when my son was in the public school system and they did the collection, so thanks for the reminder!
Micallef Note Vanillee and Montale Vanille Absolu.
VQ ‘18 is having a strong 4th quarter! ????????
Has anyone sniffed Jo Malone White Moss & Snowdrop yet please?
There are a couple positive reviews on Nordstrom’s site but no Fragrantica entry even yet. For some reason, I want to buy this blind. Madness, I tell you. Complete madness. ????
At least you know you’re not alone in your madness, here. 🙂
Haven’t tried it as it won’t reach NZ until mid-November. I am curious about ‘white moss’ and would probably blind buy it too if it came in a 30ml bottle. I am not sure that I would blind buy 100ml given the notes listed as they seem rather a loose interpretation of snowdrops and moss
It’s really just a large sample…
I was trying to find more intel and some random blogger (maybe influencer even 😉 ) said it reminded her of Opium…??? So, damn…might be interesting…or she may be clueless fragrance-wise but my interest is piqued…piqued on this large sample…
Will Vanilla Quest (TM) go into 2019?
You seem to have caught early wind of the press release…! 🙂
Indeed it shall! There is simply too much vanilla to contain it to 2018…there is more vanilla work to be done in 2019.
Either early wind or a whiff of your sillage! ????
No scent yet, but I am thinking very seriously of scrabbling through one of the boxes that hold my excess (as if they aren’t all excessive, in a fundamental sense) perfume bottles in search of Jungle L’Elephant. Coumarin brought it to mind, and just a small dab sounds perfect for today.
Not quite sure it has cooled off enough for me to wear Jungle L’Elephant.
SOTD is Vintage Shalimar bath oil, a gift from a very kind perfumista. I was always on the fence about Shalimar until I started smelling older versions.
Good lord this is gorgeous stuff. It’s nearly as strong as the vintage extrait! I’m wafting powdery skanky notes and resins. 🙂
I love the the body powder…
Ohh, it’s that good huh?? And I love a nice body powder. I have a vintage Magie Noire body powder that I treasure.
Now I am tempted to search fleabay!
This is the one I have : https://www.guerlain.com/us/en-us/fragrance/womens-fragrances/shalimar/shalimar-perfumed-dusting-powder-jar
I am not an expert on how to apply these types of things. I just stay away from my private area.
This has lasted me a long time and its very beautiful.
One of my friends wears the Oscar de la Renta dusting powder and she smells great.
It’s funny, my grandmother never wore perfume that I remember but always had body powders. I remember when I was little and I’d bathe at her house I’d always pull out those large powder puffs and dust myself and I thought I was super fancy. My aunt still uses a No. 5 body powder with her L’eau.
That is a great scent memory!
Fitting for this weeks community project
KellyC – that’s a wonderful scent memory!
I love a nice body powder. My mom and grandmother used them lavishly, especially when it was hot and humid.
Wearing Mohur extrait de parfum. Courtesy of a very nice NST’er. Two NST’er actually. I had two decants, now I just have the one. Still can’t make up my mind if I’m willing to spend so much money on just one bottle.
I am bad at making myself spend money on perfume anymore so I will be no help to you! Sure am good about wasting money on everything else though 🙂
In Vanilla Flash for a very cold day – I had to get out my down jacket, which made my heart sink. At least it’s sunny!
The Delacourte musk sampler set I first ordered got lost or stolen, so the company very nicely sent me a free replacement. I must say I don’t like the scents in this sampler at all. The vanilla ones, on the other hand, I have been wearing regularly to bed every night and having the best sleep ever! In fact, I didn’t wear one last night and tossed and turned for a few hours.
I didn’t like the musk samples either.
I am in one of my jackets I bought in Canada, I will take this weather as long as the sun is out…
I think I am finally going to cave this winter and invest in a more high-end down jacket, one in fact made in Canada. I will be happier when I am warmer
This is all scary to me to read because I’m thinking of moving back to Michigan after 32+ years in Texas, and I probably haven’t got a realistic idea of winter. Nor do I have any winter things any more–boots, hats, coats. I just know I hate the six- or eight-months-long summers here in Houston.
Go back for a visit in January, that will give you a good idea. 🙂
What cazaubon said ????
Yeah, I’m already planning a Christmas visit.
My $50 down jacket from Costco has served me well for the past 4 years. It’s light as a feather (!), machine washable and dryable. It is very warm and I use layers to preserve heat. Gloves are important as well…nothing worse than cold hands as that makes your body feel colder than it really is.
Layers! That’s the magic word.
TM Angel today, and I am tea twins with you, Robin. English Breakfast for me.
My daughter just brought me a chocolate croissant — best lunch ever!!
You smell great. Personally, I stay away from Angel if I know I’ll be eating within 4 hours of even the teeniest tiniest amount for fear of having my food taste like Angel. Smell Angel on me – YES! Taste like Angel ? He double L NO!
I like smelling Angels on others but don’t like to wear it
I love Angel, but it is my husband’s most hated scent so I have to save it for when he’s out of town . . .
Your scent trail has to be lovely! Sadly, the last time I wore TM Angel, she threw a bit of a tantrum. First time that ever happened.
I put Angel on last night, after my workout and shower. I went out to dinner with my parents, and I LOVED the way I smelled.
This morning, I put Angel on again, and it is a “like”, not a “love”. Maybe it was cooler last night, and the heat of today is making it smell different. Not sure.
I am not giving up on Angel. The smell last night was incredible when I wore it.
I have noticed that Angel can be very mutable. I figure my recent ooops with it was a case of wrong weather or something like that.
I am wearing Elephant today, by Zoologist. From a sample.
Good stuff!
That or Rhinoceros was my favorite Zoologist – can’t remember which, but it was definitely a big animal with grey dry leathery skin.
I never smelled Rhino, but Elephant is green/vegetal, with a coconut vibe, and sandalwood.
I like it a lot!
I love Elephant! It’s my top pick to purchase next spring or whenever I’m ready for a fresh green scent.
I’m enjoying the photos very much Robin, keep them coming, please.
In Laura Mercier Lumiere d’Ambre, both light and lasting all day, I like that combination in a perfume.
I have more, don’t worry!
Ann Gerard Rose Cut- cheerful and bright rose, I am planning on finishing my travel spray in about a week.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaand a spritz of Chanel No5 L’Eau on my wrist for the extra oomph 🙂
Extra oomph is always good!
I’m wearing En Passant today. Yesterday I made the worst loaves of bread ever! It was a recipe I found on a blogger site and the reviews were stellar. Mine was dense, doughy, and way too sweet (and some reviewers suggested adding more honey.) The birds won’t even eat it and I don’t blame them. I might go to the boulangerie today to console myself.
Boo!
Have fun at the boulangerie
I buy bread mostly but I do love to make arabic bread, also from a blogger site.
I have never made bread in my life, and watching the Great British Baking show convinced me not to try, so I salute your efforts even if it didn’t work out.
Do you have a bread maker, or were you doing everything by hand? Mr. Jalapeno and I made a few decent loaves with our breadmaker before it went kaput, but we never had any luck doing things by hand. ????
I did it by hand. When I had a breadmaker, the bread usually came out well, but when I downsized the breadmaker went to a friend’s house.
Same for me. I use the bread maker on the dough cycle only, then finish by hand. I find doing it all by hand never gives me a good result, and I don’t care for the texture/flavour of the bread recipes I’ve tried for baking in the machine.
Late on this thread, but maybe you’ll read? I used to bake a lot of bread (sadly not any more) and used the no-knead Jim Lahey recipe, giving it a quick mix in an empty ice cream tub and then leaving it overnight in the fridge. You can bake it at any time the next day. Just remember to bake it in the pre-heated cast iron pot as per recipe directions. It really worked every time. And if you don’t wash your tub in between batches of dough, the small amount of dough stuck to the sides gets mixed into your new batch and the flavour just gets better and better ;).
Cool photo. I just read up on Claremont and Ipswich european setllement: it was a penal colony and the second owner of Ckaremont was the ‘father’ of Ioswich, the first free-man to settle in the town, who later got into politics when NSW and Queensland split. ( the guy who built the house down-sized due to lack of money). He was a very wealthy man, staged fox hunting etc. from the house. The Wilsons were a medical family, super-intendent at the hospital dealing with outbreaks of diptheria and flu around 1915. Later the house was turned into a hostel for what seems to be termed ‘sub-normal’ residents and later still it fell apart until becoming recognised as a heritage building.
Big wind here and bit stormy. I am wearing Lakeland Flora which I really like…very NZ smelling.
Fascinating research — are you able to do this online, or are you visiting archives?
I’d never heard of Claremont so Googled it…mostly wikipedia and historic places info.
But, if you’re ever interested in doing research on Australian history you can access the Australian National Library archives online – newspapers, journals, etc. It’s fantastic.

This is a book about the sandalwood trade written in 1862 you might like. TROVE has all sorts of articles about the early australian sandalwood trade and growing – sandalwood from NW Australia was ranked as highly as mysore sandalwood by the British pharmacopeia (the only sandalwood other than Mysore to make the grade..used to treat veneral diesease and for perfume)
Thank you for the background!
There are lots more cool photos if you click on that user at flickr.
Wearing Divin Infant – no family connection but it’s one of my fall favorites.
Slightly long tale that ends with a question about orange blossom/neroli: I’ve worn 4711 for several years, and a few months ago I decided to try the 4711 shower gel. I didn’t love it – it smelled fairly different from the cologne and had an off-note that reminded me of cigarette smoke/ash. After trying it a few times, I also started to detect this “cigarette” note in the cologne as well, which put me off it a bit. Which leads me to today: I’m always surprised by other people’s descriptions of Divin Infant (basically, a soft and marshmallow-y neroli scent) because I get such a strong tobacco note in it. So this morning it occurred to me that some iterations of orange blossom/neroli smell like tobacco to me? Anyone else experience this?
Robin, I’m a bit behind, and you might have already noted this. While looking for something else, I found this September 23, 2018, article “Symrise Continues Its World Tour Through Scent and Welcomes Master Perfumer Annick Ménardo”:
“…Ricardo Omori, VP – Fine Fragrance at Symrise, announced that he is strengthening his Fine Fragrance team with the arrival of three young talents coming directly from the Symrise Perfumery School: Leslie Gauthier, Marine Ipert and Suzy Le Helley.
“Additionally, Omori announced the highly anticipated arrival of Master Perfumer Annick Ménardo. A talented scent designer who has marked the contemporary history of perfumery with iconic creations such as Lolita Lempicka, Dior Bois d’Argent, Dior Hypnotic Poison, Boss Bottled, YSL Body Kouros, and Bulgari Black.
“Omori also announced the new exclusive Symrise partnership with Payan Bertrand, the famous producer of raw materials from Grasse, to expand his range of exceptional natural ingredients.”

Annick Ménardo had previously worked at Firmenich since 1991. I wonder if this is a promotion for her, and whether this will lead to some interesting perfumes by Symrise. Symrise has very little publicity about Fine Fragrance on their website compared with Firmenich. That “World Tour Through Scent” collaboraton with Nez looks interesting.
Thanks so much Nozknoz, I missed that entirely!
Turned quite cold today and I’m not used to it. Much as proclaimed to hajusuuri that I wear gloves only when it hits 30s, I was kind of wishing I had them today.
But…Angel Muse is keeping me feeling a bit cozy. That and the chili dog for lunch.
Celebrity sighting today. Melissa McCarthy passed in front of us coming out of a store. Was with her mom and headed across the street to the drugstore. One of the few times I was tempted to shout out to someone. I find her so hilarious.
It is cold and I, of course, underdressed ???? Fun on the celebrity sighting- I’m a fan, too!
Oooh yeah… Melissa has a new film ‘Can you ever forgive me?’ coming out with Richard E. Grant as her costar. Link to Vanity Fair review…

Heh, I brought my gloves but didn’t wear them.
My only celebrity sighting was many years ago way back when they were married and lovey dovey – Alec Baldwin and Kim Bassinger. Kim was so pretty and her skin was luminous and she had a glow about her. OTOH, Alec looked like he had not shaven in days and it was not a “groomed” unshaven look. It was at a diner on Madison Ave. and 70 something street.
I’ve had quite a lot of sightings over the years. I think I tend to look at faces. I imagine Kim B. was quite beautiful.
I literally came across this OW quote this morning: “Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”
Doing a use-it-up week in Prada Candy.
Great quote!
This reminds me I may have a Prada Candy sample to thunk after one more wearing.
I wear this at work. Nobody complained …
Sorry, computer hiccup…wore vintage Cabochard for work and my receptionist complimented me…
Theo Fennel EdT in the evening. Just bought a backup bottle for 22€ ….dont known if i ever use it up, but….its discontinued….
Cabochard, love!
Hello twin!
Commando today (with possible traces of last night’s N.5 Eau Premiere) for a dermatology skin check appointment today.
Which prompts my gentle psa: keep an eye on freckles and moles! Being aware of changes in a freckle on my leg caught the melanoma early a few years ago.
Xo
whew! Good for you that you noticed
Wow. Glad that you caught the melanoma early! Scary stuff.
Busy day, and I’m being boring in Bottega Veneta AGAIN (but I still love it????), with a spritz of TF Ombre Leather on my wrist, from a Sephora sample. I like it, but my sample will suffice.
I think I might have to disagree with you on being boring in Bottega Veneta!
It’s definitely not a boring scent!
Nothing boring about multiple wearings of BV! It’s gorgeous 🙂
I’m sure the love affair will end, as they always seem to do in my perfume love life.
A repeat for twice the love.
Bright blue skies here earlier today! ???? I would have liked more sun, since it seems to have clouded up late in the afternoon but I will take it. More please!!!
SOTD = Oiellet Louis XV EdP from Oriza L. Legrand and the sample stash. It starts off smelling like an old school green floral and then morphs into a spicy and fiery carnation soliflore. Wow! And yum! It’s perfect for the suddenly cool fall weather that has shown up.
I think we are getting more tomorrow!
That would definitely make both me and the cats very happy! ????????????????
Your getting more sun this fall, then you did this summer ???? hope it keeps going.
Yeah this summer was kind of a bust in the weather department for me.
I think I have a sample of this. Gorgeous day but I was stuck in the office.
It is fantastic! I think I had between 8 and 10 hours of easy wafting, then it went very close to skin. I can smell it if I look for it now.
Why is it now that I see the typo in my original post?!? Drat! “Oeillet” not “Oiellet”!
Hi everyone, I’m back home from my trip to Toronto! Didn’t get in any perfume shopping or visits there due to being so busy at my conference. Did go to some very good restaurants with great food and the Art Gallery of Ontario. I can note for the record that the Royal York Fairmont, a really nice hotel, has all Le Labo Rose 31 in their bathrooms, and they’re pretty nice. My roommate and I shared the extras–she took home the shampoo and conditioner, and I got the shower gel and body lotion. Not a bad deal! Unfortunately we used the two soaps and they didn’t bring any extras, but those were nice too.
Welcome back! And you brought home some nice goodies, IMO.
I think all the Fairmonts have Rose 31! I saw them at the one in Hawaii, and a friend mentioned using them at the one in San Jose (or was it SF?).
Interesting. My friend, who is not at all into scents, said she was initially rather skeptical because she doesn’t like the smell of rose, but she found she actually liked this. As with many of the other LL’s, the title isn’t that indicative of the actual fragrance, which is pretty subtle and nice.
The Plaza in NY may be an exception but that could have changed. There is now a Guerlain Spa there!
I would have asked for extras but that is just me…shameless.
Wearing Replica Jazz Club today, such a fine fall scent. I’m going to visit my best friend, several hours away, tomorrow. I miss her, it’s been too long since we’ve seen each other; since my sister is here taking care of our mom I can get away. Unfortunately, my sweet friend has terrible asthma that is most often triggered by fragrance so I keep usage to a minimum. She has a new puppy that I’ll get to play with so I will happily be fragrance free for a few days. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Enjoy your visit with your bestie!
Have a great visit!
Best friend + puppy = really fun visit! Enjoy!
I’m wearing Emeraude PdT today, in memory/honor of one of my grandaunts, who always used Emeraude dusting powder.
Aw! This is a sweet remembrance!
TDC Jasmin de Nuit because it reminds me of a perfume my paternal grandma wore. I’ll wear another that reminds me of her even more one day this week. I don’t know what perfume she wore but it was undoubtedly something Avon.
SOTD = Tauer Dark Passage
Perfectly honeyed tobacco and earthy patchouli. I may have cornered the market with 4 travel sprays and I want more! If you have one lurking in the depths of your “pile” and you don’t intend to wear it, let’s talk swap!
Commuting Woes No. 604:
NJ Transit had MONTHS to figure out a reduced train schedule so that they can further manipulate their on-time metrics. There’s a train that kept getting cancelled at least 3x a week over the summer. They opted to keep this on the new schedule. One would think they selected the 18 cancelled trains based on facts (ridership?) and whichever train they chose to keep should operate. Nope, think again. This morning, THAT train got cancelled (yesterday, it was initially cancelled, was revived but 15 minutes late. 2 days into the new schedule, NJT is 0 for 2 in terms of on-time performance. Ugh again!
Geez, it sounds like NJT is taking hints from SEPTA on how to run trains!
I almost want to throw the 10% back at NJT — I just want them to do a good job. In the end, we will end up paying more because – Look Ma, big improvements and we spent billions to give you, our most important customers, a safer ride. 25% increase!
Busy, worrisome day today. My son got lost downtown riding the bus again. He’s home and fine. I’m still worrying, going to make some calls tomorrow about it. Anyway, let my daughter pick out our shared sotd and she picked Alien essence absolute. We both smelled fabulous, but I think I gave the guy at the bank a sneezing fit.
Glad to hear that your son is safe and sound!! Hugs!
Thanks Jalapeno, hugs back!
So glad that your son is home and safe!
Yikes. Glad your son is OK!
Glad your son is home safe and sound! Hope you get things worked out tomorrow.
How scary! So glad it turned out ok.
Hello old friend. SOTD is Gris Montaigne. So nice to wear it again.
You smell gorgeous! I have a few spritzes left that I’ve been saving, maybe I will wear it tomorrow.
Thanks lillyjo. I hope tbat you’ve relaxed a little now that your son is home.
Dzongka! It was a take no prisoners kind of day, which means Dzongka because it brings mental clarity. Or as my co-teacher observed “It brings the Tibetan Whoop-Ass!”
Love you all. It’s been very trying lately, but you are all pillars of wit, kindness, and beautiful scents.
