Indeed, it is Monday again, and if that's not enough good news for you, it's also World Mosquito Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in my old summer standard Carthusia Mediterraneo.
Reminder: on 8/24, in honor of Pluto Demoted Day, wear a fragrance you used to obsess over, but don't care so much about anymore. If you can, tell us why you don't love it anymore. Suggested by Katrina.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s more like anti-mosquito day – “a commemoration of British doctor Sir Ronald Ross’s discovery in 1897 that female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans”. Ugh!
I am wearing Chanel Eau de Cologne. I like this scent, but I prefer other lemon perfumes in my wardrobe. Plus, it has a poor longevity and projection on my skin. That’s why I chose it for the CP. Will finish my decant but won’t buy again.
It is, and I don’t know why they didn’t name it that!
The name was Dr Ross’s decision, apparently.
But it’s strange. We have World Cat day, which is about giving extra love to cats. And we have World Mosquito Day, which is about being extra wary of mosquitoes. Does not make sense!
Scent Twins! I was not participating in the CP, though, just felt like Chanel EdC for a hot day. Longevity is pretty poor, though.
I also had to look up World Mosquito day. It surprises me not in the least that it’s celebrated at the LSHTM; I’ve had a few medical residents study there and it’s a pretty unique place, with its own culture.
Hey twin! 🙂
It’s a nice lemon scent for sure. Just a bit too dainty for me.
Glannys, I’m always on the look out for good lemon scents. What do you like?
I’m not glannys, but I love lemon too so I’ll chime in with my faves!
Carthusia Mediterraneo & Lostmarch Din Dan are very nice lemon scents, and not sweet.
Sweet lemons – Fresh Brown Sugar & Lemon Sugar (I prefer Brown Sugars – seems more lemony to me!) and Roca Nuvol Llimona.
Happy searching!
Also not Glannys, but my favorite lemon is Alvarez Gomez Agua de Colonia Concentrada.
Mediterraneo is indeed very nice, thought I tend to think of it as a bergamot/tea scent, not lemon scent. But lemon note is quite good there.
The ultimate lemon perfumes for me (lemon is strong and tart) are Eau d’Hadrien and Profumum Roma Acqua Viva. Sometimes I layer them to maximize the effect. I feel like a walking lemon tree in them!
Chanel No. 5 L’eau has an interesting lemon note, though there are also flowers and aldehydes. So the overall effect is something fresh, elegant but inedible. Chanel No. 5 mixed with lemon cologne – this sort of thing.
Blenheim Bouqet – an interesting dry peppery lemon.
I also like Dior Escale a Portofino and 4711 Original Eau de Cologne, but though lemon is noticeable there, there are plenty of other citruses, so I am not sure if I can call them lemon scents.
thank you for the lemon scent list, Glannys!
My go-to-citrus scents this summer are 4711 and Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat. 😉
4711 Original is fabulous. I am curious about Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat, but Bear described it as gossamer and fleeting… I do not expect a lot of longevity from a citrus scent, but I do like my lemons lively and zesty!
Maybe I should try scenting a scarf with Chanel Eau de Cologne. It might last longer this way and it would be nice to have a scarf scented with a dainty lemon fragrance. 🙂
So far, the No 5 L’eau is my favorite lemon. I love the flowers and the aldehyde. I like Escale a Portofino a lot (not sure why I don’t reach for it more; I reach for L’eau a few times per week and even made a really lovey body oil with it).
I have to check out all these recs. Thanks guys!
Hey gville, I have Profumum Roma Acqua Viva and will be happy to send you a sample, along with a decant of Heure Exquise which we have to discuss further. I owe many people promised packages which I will get to but I wanted to make sure you know NOT to buy a sample of it!
you smell(ed) FABULOUS (for a while!) 🙂
I love that cologne even though it is fleeting.
I’m wearing the last of a sample of Dame Herb Man. I love Dame’s generosity with their samples.
That’s my fave from the Dame men’s line. You smell great!
Hi house twin!
Hello everyone. Late morning today, snuggling the dog I’m taking care of this week for a friend.
I picked out vintage Eau Sauvage for today, but every time I open my closet, I second guess myself. The good thing about Eau Sauvage though is that I: 1. Have tons and 2. Have a mini to put in my bag for touch-ups. Plus, it smells like heaven.
I have a lot to do today sadly, but since I’m starting late, I don’t mind.
We just did the “pass off” of the Goldendoodle we were watching for 10 days to another family. Miss him already! It’s a lot of work to walk him 3 times a day and he needs lots of love and attention, but the novelty never wears off when you’re dog-sitting.
Enjoy!
Oof! Yeah, that’s a lot of work. I really want a dog, but I know that both my schedule and my boyfriend’s won’t permit us to give the dog the time it would deserve 🙁
You smell fabulous. Wish I could convince my husband on this one. I’d buy it for myself, but I’m not buying anything…for now.
Wearing Mito today.
I bounce back and forth on this one – one wearing it is perfect, the next it is overly dry verging on sour.
Today is a perfect day.
I really like Mito and will probably go for a bottle eventually.
You smell great!
Off to the gym, so I’m without scent for the moment. Monday, first day of my fall semester. My classes still need quite a bit of prepping, but I am strangely not too frazzled by it all. Probably because I haven’t had my first class yet. 🙂
Post gym and shower, I’m going to look for something bright and optimistic to wear.
My semester starts after Labor Day but I am also feeling strangely not too frazzled about teaching. Good luck today
Thanks, and right back at you. Here’s to a calmer, less crazy semester.
Getting ready to scrub off Parfait de Rôses Lancome, unfortunately. I really wanted to love this one but there’s something “off” about it. Maybe too sweet? Third try and so it’s time to move it to the freebie bag.
Ugh, I despise mosquitoes. I’m one of those people that are always getting bitten, whereas my husband they could care less about. What’s with that?
I’m definitely one of those who never gets bitten. I can’t think of the last time I had a mosquito bite, and I live in a glorified swamp.
I’m with you. They love me, as do fleas. I’ve had fleas jump off cats to get to me….
LOL. Thanks for the laugh.
Any interest in trying this one? I’ll hold on to it for you.
Nah, but thanks. I think I tried it at my sisters and wasn’t that interested….
Sorry about the scrubber.
floralgal, do you have type O blood? There have been several credible studies that suggest the critters prefer O blood (and like Type A the least) and with most people, female mosquitoes can smell out the type. Also, people who tend to put out a lot of heat or have a greater lung capacity (and exhale more) are targeted more often. I’m O negative and a little furnace, so they drive me nuts.
Heh… I’m Type A blood, but I run hot and have healthy sweat glands. I’ve also heard it’s the type of bacteria on one’s skin that attracts… I must have tasty stuff….
I do think there’s something to the idea of giving off heat that determines if you are a target or not. My husband does not sweat and he never gets bitten whereas my mom gives off a lot of heat, is always complaining about being hot, and she not only gets bit all the time but she gets huge welts from being feasted on by mosquitos.
Ok, I’m officially grossed out.
I have type A and I run cold, not sweaty. Mosquitoes don’t like me.
I’m Type A, but I am a tasty mosquito snack! Heaven help me if I miss a spot while spraying bug spray…
My extended family did a lot of RV and tent camping when I was growing up. If we forgot to seal up our tent at night my sister had many bites in the morning, while I almost never had one. One year my grandmother had my sister swallow a brewer’s yeast tablet each morning. It seemed to change her smell so the mosquitoes were less likely to find her in the dark.
I’ve heard that about taking vitamin B12 (which is rich in B12).
I had heard something about B1 (thiamine), but thought it was later disproved.
Wearing Infusion d’Iris Absolue, which has been superseded by L’Heure Exquise in my iris-based affections. Still perfectly nice – will see how long it lasts today.
You smell great AnnieA!
You smell wonderful.
I’m an iris lover trying to decide between purchasing the edt, etc or absolue. Any advice?
Oops. I meant edp! But “etc” could be a good acronym for some scents….
My first love was the original EdP. EdT was fine but it didn’t warrant a separate bottle. Absolue is very beautiful. For a while I thought that I didn’t need it while I had my EdP, but now I can see wearing them both. If I had to choose just 1 to buy, probably I’d go for Absolue today.
But please try them before buying: it’s not a please-all perfume, you shouldn’t buy it blind.
Same, I would buy the Absolue.
Thanks to all! My first encounter with Infusion d’Iris was a wicked hot August, when I was escaping the swelter by hanging out for hours at the Corte Inglais perfume counter. I’ve smelled them all now, but still can’t seem to make up my mind.
*Corte Inglés.*
Since you ask, I think the Absolue is lots’n’lots better. The regular bored me.
In Byredo Pulp thanks to the great generosity of Flopper.
Thank you for all your recommendations over the weekend about possible solutions and products for dark circles and puffy eyes. I already took note and will try all of them. I will report later on the results.
Have a peaceful week. everyone!
Great choice. Have a great week!
Thank you! ????
If you go to Sephora they will give you samples of the creams, and corectors, so you can try before you buy.
Glad to hear! I will do that. Thanks!
I love Sephora soooo much. Probably too much lol.
You smell like my tropical vacation! 🙂
Thank you! The vacation that I just need! ????
Pulp is good stuff! I should try it again in cooler temps and see how it behaves then.
That is a good idea! I have not tried it in cold temps either. I will try to remember that.
I’m Sundrunk!! Trying out the new Imaginary Authors. A bit of citrus overload but then becomes a beautiful summer scent; I think mostly due to the rhubarb. Won’t replace The Soft Lawn as my favorite.
Wonderful show in Columbus by Virginia and Nina West this weekend!
Oh, I want to try that one.
ô de Lancôme
Use to love it…but something (reformulation?) has made it really quiet on me.
I want something with more sillage!
Great reminder. I need to dig out my bottle of O and give a good spritz.
How do you find it, the longevity?
Great for summer and about six hour longevity but close to the skin.
I’m in Dior Mitzah again. Pretty sure I will be joining the “Thunk Club” in the next day or two with this little decant!
Making homemade deep dish pizza in my cast iron skillet tonight. Can’t wait????
Yummy!
I hope…!
Can I come over to eat
Absolutely! We can have a mini perfume swap at the same time????
Oh my gosh yes! That sounds amazing.
I’m optimistic! Making my own crust and everything, but I’m having a difficult time finding chicken Italian sausage. The only place I haven’t tried yet is Whole Foods.
Chicken? Italian Sausage? !!???? As if Dior Joy wasn’t bad enough……. ????????LOLOLOL ????????????
JK Enjoy! ????
Pork *is* the other white meat, anyway ????????
All you Pork Purists will banhappy to know that I couldn’t find chicken Italian sausage anywhere. So, no I have to eat Babe on top my pizza! ????
You smell fab!
Thank you! It’s quite nice. Not long lasting, even on me, but if a bottle came my way (for free!) I would give it a happy little home.
Oooh, I want to hear how your pizza comes out! ????
Welp, I’ve had a change of plans and will be making it tomorrow, so I’ll update you then. I’m on a Minimize Food Waste kick and I have one more meal of my chicken/apple/sweet potato/Brussels sprout skillet to finish before cooking anything else. I’m sure I’ll have help from the dishlicker????
Testing Mugler Aura edp again. It is pleasant but not screaming Buy me now!.
I think it screams “buy me in October” to me it’s better suited for cooler weather.
Agreed. I got a sample and spread on some of the hand cream. Liked the scent but it was better suited for cooler temps. I sent the little free gifts to my niece and hope she enjoys. I sprayed the Alien Hair Mist and it was way better than Alien Man.
Pretty much nothing screams at me “Buy me now!” I guess the perfume honeymoon is over ????
🙂
Be careful: you never know when the next passion jumps right at you.
????
I did get compliments from two people though, so it wasn’t horrible. Will keep using up my samples.
Compliments are always nice! I get he most when I wear Queen. ????????♀️
Wearing Encre Noire – just bought it for the hubby as a bday present and a covert present to myself..hehe.
Great choice. A bargain too (I hope).
Well, here we are at Monday again…..Sigh….LOL
Improving the situation by wearing Chanel Gabrielle. This is so different from the other Chanels, in my opinion….I really enjoy it!
Wholeheartedly agree on the Monday sighs…
SOTD: Berdoues Arz el-rab. I like this, but I think Tauer Les Annees 25 is a better, more complex take on the same ginger-iris-woods theme. I’ve been really impressed by the Berdoues Grand Crus collection so far. Nearly all the scents I’ve tried are thoughtful, interesting, and well-made for a relatively reasonable price. So far the only one I’ve actively disliked is Somei Yoshino (I can sum up my reaction in 3 words: “annoying pink floral”).
Once I get through the collection, I may wind up adding an FB to my wishlist.
Somei Yoshino turned into a scrubber for me, but it does have the prettiest bottle!
I need to try that Tauer one of these days…
The Tauer is lovely – I do recommend!
It’s a LE of only 500 bottles and Andy just posted on FB he made the final shipment to his distributors, so don’t wait if you really want it.
You smell great! I have lots of fun with the Berdoues Grands Crus, though Somei Yoshino is also my least favorite. Annoying pink floral is about right for that one. 😉
(Apologies to anyone who loves it! All the more for you!)
I’m with you on Somei Yoshino.
After testing the set, I ended up with Assam and Kozha bottles. And decant of Selva do Brazil – but only because I missed it at a great price from Anthropologie sale and then couldn’t bring myself to paying more.
I will be very tempted to grab a bottle of Selva if I see at a sale price again.
Somei Yoshino was a peony soliflore on me. Peony and I generally do not get along.
The kids made it to school without a hitch. I’m a little sad. Of course I had big plans this morning, and did none of them. I’ve been wearing a sample of Fleur Nocturne on and off since Friday. Sprayed the last spray this morning (thunk). I fell in love at first spray, but now after 4 days, it’s a like. I smell to much juicy fruit gum in it, for me to want to wear it for an extended period of time.
Hang in there, mom.
Thanks. I am.
THUNK! Good job!
????
I just tried Fleur Narcotique last night and wasn’t super impressed. It’s VERY expensive for how it smells. It started off promising in the top notes but bored me after that. However, I also retried Woman in Gold, this time sprayed rather than dabbed and liked that one a good deal.
I’m happy to send you my FN sample that I only sprayed twice!
Thank you for the offer, but I think I’m good for now. I agree with you on Woman in Gold, I liked it dabbed, but I could tell it would be much better sprayed.
Feeling reasonably optimistic about Monday in Dame Gardenia. I’ve been having floral cravings lately, totally unusual for me.
The only Dame I have tried is the Black Flower Mexican Vanilla (loved it) – I clearly need to sample more from this line since it gets so much love here.
It’s been hit or miss for me, which is why it’s nice they’re generous with samples; many of others’ favorites leave me cold, but I never would have expected to love Cactus Orchid so much!
cactus orchid – intriguing! Off to Google…
What’s your take on Cactus Orchid?
Yasmina, are you in the US? If so, I have a few Dame samples I can pass on. Email me: shelp216 [at] gmail.
Oh wow – thank you! That’s very kind – will email you tonight!
Hey friends, feeling really tired on this cloudy, gloomy, chilly Monday. SOTD is Glacialis Terra–I went crazy for it when I tried it in store, and got a lovely decant of it from a kind NSTer during the last swapmeet. I don’t dislike it now, but it’s really not as spectacular as I remembered. I think I’ll work my way through the decant, but I definitely will not need a bottle.
My retreat down in the cliffs of Carmel overlooking the ocean turned out to be kind of a bummer. Far fewer people are returning to the singing group this year than we had expected, so song and performance choices will have to be significantly modified. Hopefully, we will still be able to make some good music together. I guess I’ll find out. We did see a bunch of sea otters, though.
Hate it was a bit of a bummer but hopefully you were able to enjoy it some still.
Thanks, KellyC! Yes, I definitely was. We are friends as well as fellow singers, and so I had a great time hanging out with friends in a beautiful place 🙂 But the final tally of who’s going to join to group and what our song structures will be came at the very end of the weekend, so it ended on a sad note 🙁
That’s a bummer! Are you all around the same age? Are they just taking a break?
Much discussion revolved around whether this was a lull in membership or a downward trend! Hopefully this is just a break. I know a lot of people are going through life changes (moving out of the area, changing jobs, going back to school). We’re all pretty young–the youngest are 22 (just out of undergrad) and the oldest person is 32 (I’m close to the oldest!). We all FEEL like we’re nearly the same age.
We’ve also wondered about whether we’ll need to put a lower cap on age as we all get older 🙂 Will we want to sing with a bunch of 22-year-olds when we’re 40? But I figure, how many 22-year-olds would want to sing with 40-year-olds? Not many, I’d suppose!
Hermes Le Jardin de Monsieur Li
Oh, that’s a good choice for a Monday. I think I’ll join you.
We smell great !
I am certainly not playing along with the CP. I’m in Shalimar Light, which I’m still pretty obsessed with. Will do better the rest of the week.
I’d like to thank my 3 year old nephew for renewing my love of Fleetwood Mac. He’s currently on a Stevie Nicks kick thanks to my sis and he loves to watch their Dance Tour concert from ’97 ha! I rocked out to “Go Your Own Way” on the way to work and it certainly improved my mood. A link is below…hope it helps you as much as it did me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxa851vAJtI
I think of you as a dark haired Stevie Nicks ????????????????????????
It’s the cutest…my nephew is a little developmentally delayed but he LOVES music. He watches that Fleetwood Mac concert and will clap after every song and say, “Yaaaaay, Stevie!” The funny thing is though, that no matter who sings to him now- me, my mom, or sis- he always claps and says, “Yay Stevie!!!” 😀
Aaww.. I love this story ❤
Ditto this ????
He has great taste! Such a unique vocalist????????
Very cute, KellyC! A high five to your nephew!
I’m in Arielle Shoshana today because the sample caught my eye, and I think I’ll wear it a lot this week – definitely not as part of CP.
I gotta get my hands on this one.
Wearing Lutens Sarrasins, which I’m nowhere near tired of. Probably my favourite from the line.
You smell gorgeous! Bogue MEM, which I wore last night, reminded a bit of Sarrasins in its later stages.
I ???? Bogue, MEM and otherwise.
I even received a compliment on it this evening at work.
Sounds like I need to try that Bogue!
Sarrasins is gorgeous! ❤
You smell fantastic!
Together with Fille en aiguilles its my favourite Lutens.
I love Mondays now since I don’t have to work them anymore. Out for a peaceful bike ride and threw on some Cedre Sambac from a sample. There is something in here that I definitely don’t like….a note like burnt rubber or plastic. It could be the thick layer of smoke that’s hanging over the city so I’ll try again once the air clears.
Not working on Mondays is pretty much my life’s goal.
SOTD: Iris Prima from a mini off ebay which I recently acquired. I love this scent, but I’m surprised how soft it is (my sample was so strong when dabbed, but I’ve poured the mini into a spray decant container). It’s such a pretty iris with an odd edge that smells like suede-y bandaids. I just love it.
SOTD is Diptyque’s Ofresia, a very pretty Freesia and pepper perfume which needs more love and attention.
I have been nursing a headache for the past few days and want something light and unobtrusive. 😐 Happy Monday all!
I hope you feel better soon! You smell lovely. I recently got a sample of Ofresia and was very pleasantly surprised.
Thank you! I rarely get headaches, (I’m thankful for that as migraines run in my family) I’m hopeful it will end with extra water and a banana.
The Ofresia is rather nice! I think it wears well in warmer weather, I wore it while on vacation in Florida and it was perfect in the heat and humidity.
Oh, and today’s smoothie is Kefir, spinach, cherries and TJ’s Vanilla Protein powder – pretty tasty!
i’m afraid when I see that perfume name, it reminds me too much of “Offred” and so on in The Handmaid’s Tale, and conjures up negative associations!
????
Hahaha that’s funny.
😮
Not a good association!
Participating in the CP with Tocca Stella. It was one of the first non-mainstream perfumes I bought when I discovered the perfume community circa 2007 or 2008. I still enjoy it but not as much now that I’ve smelled more stuff. It’s a bit more clean and fresh than the perfumes I usually choose these days.
Also, the perfume is on my s*#* list today because I had a leaky sprayer malfunction that left two big stains on the white blouse I had on. I had to change into a different top and stain stick it up, which got me running behind schedule. I also happened to sleep very poorly last night and am still feeling lingering effects in my sinuses from the smoky air I breathed in yesterday. Monday is off to a bit of a rough start!
I hope it’s smooth sailing for the rest of the day.
Thank you! I hope so too. Going to take advantage of the free espresso machine at work. ????
I understand your sinus issues, same here. I haven’t had this many migraines in years, and I’m attributing it to the terrible air quality. Last night was a loss as far as restful sleep goes. My sinuses were just screaming…????
Ugh, so sorry! We had our windows open longer than we should have yesterday, and the smoke made my eyes burn even while I was inside my apartment.
Bleah, your Monday is definitely being “Monday-ish”!
Indeed! I finally started feeling more awake just an hour ago.
SotD = Luci ed Ombre
Craved tuberose this morning and this is just the thing. The sample is almost empty, so it’ll be gone next wearing. Time to decide if I want more of this lovely perfume in my life. 😉
Have a marvelous Monday, NSTers, you’re perfuming this place up real good!
I’m in Le Labo Tubéreuse 40 this morning, and it’s not very tuberose-y. It’s actually pleasant, though a bit on the sweet side; it’s got another strong floral in it too, maybe the mimosa? I really love the tuberose viriginale from HDP. What’s your favourite with this note?
Agree, the le labo is not very tuberose-y. 😉
My tuberose-love started with Oscar several decades ago. It’s hard to choose just one. Jardins de Bagatelle is a favorite. I really like Gucci Bloom. I think I’m in love with Luci ed Ombre. 34 boulevard Saint Germain is wonderful, the tuberose is very prominent when I wear it.
I used to wear Jardins long ago but haven’t revisited it in years. I do like Bloom, too. But I’ve not tried the other two you mention, and will do so. Thanks! How about Mahora, the notorious one? It’s got a lot of wf’s but to me the tuberose really stands out. That is, it seems realistic as to both the good and the bad side of this strange but compelling flower. (If I ever buy a bouquet of them, I wind up putting them out on the porch for awhile! Like hyacinths–the same–can get to be too much of a good thing.)
Jardins came to me unsniffed in a swap, so I was happy it has become a favorite.
Oh, Mahora! I’ve added it to my wishful sampling list, along with Fracas which I have not smelled in a long time.
I’m wearing Phlur’s Hanami today. It’s really nice, but I originally wanted to wear Olmstead and Vaux. However, I tried a new conditioner that left so much fragrance in my hair that I had to choose a perfume that wouldn’t clash with its patchouli/vanilla self. (Hanami isn’t patchouli/ vanilla, but it’s not fighting with it.)
Have a happy Monday. Off to ponder my feelings about mosquitoes…
Personally, I am firmly in the Anti camp…
Ditto this! I’ve been lucky when vanning around the country the past several months and have had no bug issues at all. One mosquito can drive a perfectly sane person completely nuts…
Neela Vermeire Creations Rahele today. Because ‘rahele’ means traveller & I’ve been planning my holiday trip today.
Where will you be going?
Sicily for a week, then Florence for Pitti.
Nice! ????????
We expect a full report!
You smell elegant!
You smell wonderful. I almost reached for Rahele today too.
I’m back after a 4 month scent hiatus; pregnancy morning sickness turned me off to all smells. I’m easing back into things with L’eau des merveilles, sprayed very lightly. I haven’t read the blog in a while since even thinking about scent set me off, so maybe I’ll scroll back through some older posts and see what I missed.
Good luck! I hope you are able to enjoy scents again!!
hurray! Very glad you are back to perfume. And you smell utterly fabulous in EdM. I can’t think of a better scent to ease into.
Glad your morning sickness is easing up! That’s a long time to feel queasy.
Taking advantage of cooler temps today in ELDO Yes I Do. I got a decant when I was on an obsessive LOTV kick in the Spring. That obsession has died, but I still like this one, though it never reached obsession levels. I think my decant will suffice.
Ah yes, cooler temps! I remember those…But, fall must be close because I’m seeing pumpkin spice everything everywhere.
Isn’t it funny how obsessions die…
And candy corn in stores!
Grateful that Trader Joe’s has not overwhelmed us with pumpkin spice flavored everything but any day now.
Just saw the obligatory fall Pumpkin Spice coffee creamer and a bag of PS Granola so far. I did pick up the granola and was pleasantly surprised because I was expecting a huge artificial pumpkin taste, but it’s quite subdued and natural. Great on vanilla yogurt with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a drizzle of honey. ????
I saw pumpkin spiced cookie peanut butter at Wegmans, then I got turned off by the partially hydrogenated oil ingredient.
The smoke and heat are back in a big way here until Wednesday night. I’m sampling Petits Papiers this morning, it’s nice but not bottle-worthy. I think it’s funny that when I started out as a perfumista, most everything smelled so new and different I was buying bottles left and right. Now many things smell pleasant but not distinctive enough to buy. I can see myself joining Robin in being able to go a long time without purchasing anything, and I understand better Turin and Sanchez’s reviews of perfectly nice scents as only worth two or three stars.
Oh my golly. Thanks for sharing that story. I had a very similar experience and now have drawers full of bottles that rarely see the light of day. I have about ten go to’s usually picking the one in front.
Same here. Lots of bottles that are not getting the use they deserve, because others are getting more love these days.
We actually had a lot of smoke here yesterday and today from CA (not sure where you live). It’s the first time I’ve ever experienced it. It was on the Albuquerque news and they were warning people with breathing problems to stay inside and there is a constant haze/smoke look in the air.
I’ve only been a perfumista of sorts for less than two years. My problem is that I have quite the FB list and I just don’t see the point in sampling much until I make a dent in my existing list. Well, I always love to sample, but have a hard time BUYING samples when I feel that money could go toward a FB. I am fairly picky though about what goes on my FB list so I’ve rarely removed anything from the list once it’s made it on there.
I hear you – a couple of years ago I easily spent a bottle’s worth on ca. 50 samples – and I liked nothing!
I tend to sample in spurts. It’s so easy to spend tons of money and have very little to show for it.
Exactly! There’s still a ton I want to sample obviously but I try and balance it with obtaining bottles I know I want.
We are an expanding club 🙂
I loved Petits Papiers, but I totally agree about being less easily impressed after many years of being a perfumista. I bought like crazy at first too, now I smell a lot of things that are pleasant but not compelling.
Thunked a Dame Passion Fruit Orange Blossom Vetiver sample. It was one of the tiny dabbers, so I used quite a bit and it’s just barely registering a few hours later – I’m thinking it needed a spray. Off to find something else for the afternoon.
This weekend I said Adieu to the small bottle Orange Sanguine – at last!
Yay for your THUNK!
I would have worn Le Galion Snob for the CP… but… I saw the sample of Guerlain Meteorites parfum and went with that instead. I would say that I was pretty obsessed with Snob for a while. It’s so bright; almost blinding white in my mind. But lately, it’s felt a little screechy. Could be the sinus issues I have had lately but it just makes me think it will be too loud and prickly to wear. Maybe in fall?
I am enjoying Meteorites. It fits in the same category in my mind; crispy light colored florals. Not light in terms of sillage but in terms of colors that the scent brings to my mind. This would be a opaque very pale pink. The violet turns off my 10 year old daughter (thanks, Howard’s violet candies!). I won’t be actively looking for a bottle but maybe more when my sample runs out?
YSL Paris.Still a wonderful burst of sunshine and happiness when I wear it.
Happy 3rd Birthday Arielle Shoshana!
Happy week all!
X
You smell fantastic my friend!????????
Merci!✌????
Smelling so good!
I think of you, johanob, when I hear YSL Paris mentioned.
Such a pretty scent. Enjoy your bubble.
Spent a couple of hours discussing home health aide and a future nursing home for my dad this morning, so I’m a little down. I forgot to put any scent on, but I’m open to recommendations for scents that are cozy, appropriate for work on an 80 degree day, and just a little quirky. You guys encourage me to keep my standards high.
Also, the photo reminds me of a mosquito repellant coil.
Cozy, yet quirky and good in 80 degree heat? That’s a tough one. Maybe a sandalwood like 10 Corso Como?
Perhaps it only *sounds* quirky, but Madragore is nice, especially out of the fridge.
Maybe Berdoues Vanira Moorea? It’s a lovely, sheer vanilla that won’t overwhelm in summer weather.
That’s a good choice. I can’t imagine anybody finding that offensive, yet it isn’t run of the mill.
I hope things feel even out soon. Pick your favorite scent even if it isn’t quite work appropriate.
Hope you are feeling better this evening October! That’s a hard thing.
Even more interesting!
PS. I like your new Gravatar!
Dang, wrong spot. *for Tiffany*
😀
Oh no, monday… But yay I survived
Sotd was Jasmin rouge. Still one of my favourite jasmin scents. Each time I wear it I get a different ‘shade of jasmine’, but its always good.
This morning I mostly got a ‘jasmine tea with a vanilla biscuit’-vibe……mmm
You smell great, love Jasmin Rouge!
Thank you!
“Jasmine tea with a vanilla biscuit vibe” sounds rather good!
Wow, second that.
That sounds really good!
There have been much cooler temps for the past couple of days in my area. I think yesterday it did not even get up to 80F! I doubt that will last, but it is an early taste of fall. ????
SOTD = Diptyque Tempo. I’m back to playing in my sample stash! This is definitely a summer weight fragrance for me… it seems a lot lighter than I remember it. Then again, the last time I wore it, I think it was during a heat wave. It smelled fantastic then, and it still smells pretty darn good now. Just feels a little subdued to me.
Nice, although I think I need colder temps to wear Tempo.
I agree, I’m going to try my sample again in the fall. Nothing seems to smell right in this humidity.
I will admit that I had tried a sample that could easily be described as “Patchouli-zilla” this past weekend, so my sniffer could be a little off kilter from that.
Perhaps it only *sounds* quirky, but Mandragore is nice, especially out of the fridge.
I am wearing J’adore touche de parfum since I am going to attend a talk with Francois Demachy.
Have fun and report back!
Oh neat! Where at?
Sup-ah late today. SOTD is/was OJ Ta’if. Does not tie in with the cp. I have always loved it to pieces.
I made a quick dinner tonight of pan seared Bomster sea scallops in my cast iron pan. The pan puts the perfect crust on them. I also made native corn, which is at it’s peak in my area and a tomatoe basil salad from the garden. Wish we could eat this way all year.
Sounds great! Very healthy and well rounded. Cast iron is amazing! Not sure why I never bought one because the non-stick properties of it are better than any non-stick pan I ever bought. And, as you said, the crust- on anything from bread to scallops to chicken…!When the very first pancake in the pan doesn’t stick and flips beautifully, it qualifies as a minor miracle to me. I’m just lightly wash mine, put it on a low burner to thoroughly dry, and then wipe with flax seed oil. It’s magic!
Ha, ha. I knew you’d read my post. Too bad that I can’t spell tomato… ???? I use my cast iron pan at least once a week. It’s so versatile. Mine is so old that it is black from years of use and seasoning. It sounds like you have the care of your pan down to a science and already a pro at cooking all kinds of things! I channel my grandparents every time I use mine because I remember seeing them use it. I really love that.
Ha! Didn’t even pay attention to tomatoe! I agree, when you have something that has a history and wonderful memories attached to it, it’s so much more than just a possession. It’s a tangible way to connect to the intangible.
Those scallops sound delicious! They’re my favorite food that comes from the sea. ????
They are so easy to make!
Oh goodness, your dinner sounds amazing. And you smell wonderful too, of course!
Thanks Kelly!
Petunia, you had a question yesterday about why spinach may be good to lighten dark under eye circles. This is my own theory only: Vitamin K in large doses can interfere with blood clotting (studies have shown); with spinach being rich in Vitamin K, it may help promote a breakdown of what is making the circles dark.
Thanks for that info. I was really curious about that.
I’m in Diptyque Everything but the Kitchen Sink again (aka 34 boulevard Saint Germain in the black cap). This is a chameleon and a colorful one at that.
Crazy Rich Asians was a very cute rom-com, handled beautifully by the author / screenwriter/ director (all different people). What would have been a large tangled web was boiled down to just the essential characters. The movie departed from the books (yes, it strayed into Book 2) to make things flow faster. There’s still a lot of story-telling to do and the teaser in the middle of credits makes me think that CRA #2 is in the works.
I remember trying that when it first came out and liking it, but then it was like too many people talking to me at once…????
It actually does seem to have multiple personalities!
Thanks for the movie review! So far, everything I have heard about Crazy Rich Asians has been positive… and that is very rare.
It was worth the $15 I paid at a dine-in AMC.
I really want to see CRA!
Go go, I think you’ll love it!
Cleaned up at Marshall’s today! I had not really purchased much of anything for more than a year now so I think I just went plumb crazy! Discontinued Pacifica Waikiki Pikake and the fig one, also Tibetan Mountain Temple. They were $8.99. How could I resist? Also a bottle of SJP Lovely and the lotion and the small bottle of Angel Muse. I spent right around 50 bucks. Practically free, right?
You couldn’t resist. Resistance is futile! Enjoy your haul.
I bought Angel Muse this weekend at TJ Maxx. I couldn’t help myself because it was so cheap. I just gave away my bottle of Jimmy Choo so I have no idea why I thought I needed Muse? They are very similar. Sigh…
Now you let me know if you ever feel you need my to buy Muse off of your hands lol. I love it.
I’m going to wait for fall and try it again. If I still don’t need it, maybe we can swap?
You have me sitting here comparing Jimmy Choo and Muse right now. I can smell a similarity. I think Muse is much creamier, and sweet though. I keep the JC for sentimental reasons but don’t wear it anymore because I think it’s bad luck (I’m a weirdo, I know) love Muse though, I want to try the edt.
Ha! The power of suggestion. Thanks for doing the comparison since I gave away my JC. I agree that Muse is a little sweeter and creamier. I really like the rough natural patch in JC, just never wore it anymore.
Totally free! Doesn’t even count! ????
VERY nice haul from Marshall’s, especially the Pacificas!
