Happy Guessing Game Friday, edition 2! Our community project for today: describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm old-school French niche, and indeed, I was made by what might be one of the few true niche brands left on earth. I changed my name to make it a more obvious reflection on my stated theme, and I also changed my packaging — but it would not be like me to pander to the superficial concerns of bottle hounds.
Reminder: on 8/24, in honor of Pluto Demoted Day, wear a fragrance you used to obsess over, but don't care so much about anymore. If you can, tell us why you don't love it anymore. Suggested by Katrina.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Leathery animalic* with a hint of floral.
*No Himalayan deer were harmed in the creation of this aroma.
Civet?
Definitely animal, but not the right one…
No idea what the scent is, but it features a synthetic musk, right?
Musc Tonkin?
Winner!
Yay! I’m scratching my head over most of these, so glad I got one.
I love Musc Tonkin!
A pure spiritual extrait….true story, a Tibetan Buddhist nun stopped me in my tracks to ask me what I was wearing because “it smells so spiritual” …she actually had me write the name down on a slip of paper…and then she invited me to her monastery for a meditation session.
I am dying to know! I bet it smells amazing!
We have a large Buddhist temple located just outside of the city and the Dalai Lama has been here many times. The monks were here a couple of years ago and made a beautiful sand mandala inside of the university’s student union.
Wow! Lucky you! There are actually two temples that I could travel to…one is Tibetan and one is Chinese….my avatar is a mandala 🙂 If no one guesses it I will post the name tonight 🙂
I know, but I won’t spill????
Ha! because you know where I was at 5am-LOL!
As a Madison girl too, who just spent 10 days in a meditation retreat smelling heavenly incense during puja each morning, I’m dying to know, too! I’m going to hazard a guess: Santo Incienso by The Different Company?
See below 🙂
Dang! Now I have to add yet another scent to my must-try incense list!
Oh, double drat! I just went to SSS website and it looks like Incense Pure is sold out, and discontinued.
Sadly Sonoma Scent Studio is no longer in business. But there is a potential for a new owner to take over and hopefully Incense Pure will be in the lineup.
Hm. Neal‘s Yard do a “pure essence” Frankincense perfume, but that‘s probably off the radar, right?
More clues, please;)
three letters all the same 🙂
another two clues is the house only did extraits
Sonoma Scent Studio Pure Incense or Amber Incense?
Seconding SSS Incense Pure!
YUP! Incense Pure !!!!!!!
Yay! At least I guess one this week ????
😉
Comme des Garcons Kyoto!
See above 🙂
I’m in that brilliant, fresh rose-and-vetiver mid-seventies scent that’s named after coloured fabric. The one that didn’t come packaged in a cloth drawstring bag.
Grey Flannel??
No, the other one.
Don’t even know what I’m talking about here but I’ve heard of White Linen so that’s my guess.
I thought Tweed by Lentheric, but I looked up the notes and it has neither rose nor vetiver.
I’m guessing Etro Paisley.
White Linen it is. (I should have said “a colour and a fabric”, I suppose, but there you have it.)
White Linen is extraordinarily beautiful. In fact, it’s literally perfect and unimprovable. Well done, Sophia Grojsman!
I agree, pyramus! You smell wonderful!
Pyramus, I was just enjoying a deep dive into your old blog entries (fantastic), and you had already convinced me to make White Linen my next Ebay purchase.
SOTD is a perfume I haven’t worn in a while, but for me, full bottle worthy (the bottle is a beaut BTW!).
You may or not believe in the name of this perfume, but here is a musical hint to fire your synapses:
“There are those who think that life has nothing left to chance
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance
A planet of play things
We dance on the strings
Of powers we cannot perceive
‘The stars aren’t aligned
Or the gods are malign…’
Blame is better to give than receive…”
Pretty sure the authors of above are a bit skeptical of the idea behind the name of this perfume. I’m probably giving it away. Again. I’m so easy! ????
Ummagumma?
No!
Onda?
No!
Gucci Rush!
And no! But great guess! ????????
Amouage Fate?
DING DING DING! We have a winner! I wish I had a prize for you✌????
Thank you! Loved you puzzle and love your scent. 🙂
Ding ding! Nice one :))
Kalemat ? ????
Sorry Bear! See above. ⬆️
This rooty-tooty installment in a series popular with perfumistas was originally marketed to men, but has since become more genderfluid.
Answers must be written in the form of a question 😉
Would that be Lalique Encre Noire?
Nope, but you’re on the right track.
What is, Encre Noir Extrême?
Right note, wrong house.
Guerlain Vetiver?
No, but you’re getting close! Like your guess, the starring note in my SOTD is in the perfume’s name.
What is Vetiver Extraordinare Frederic Malle?
Is it Atelier Cologne Vétiver Fatal?
Nobody’s gotten it yet, but here’s another clue: it is a flanker to a much more well-known scent, which is itself a rooty-floral.
Hmmm. I can only think of Terre d’Hermes Vetiver or Bel Ami Vetiver, but neither original is particularly floral.
It is neither. Wow, I didn’t realize this would be such a stumper! I’ve seen my SOTD mentioned around here before. Some folks are big fans of the almond version too…
What is Prada Infusion de Vetiver?
Bear wins Double Jeopardy!!
Are you wearing Havana Vanille (Vanille Absolument), Robin?
My SOTD is one of my old favorites.
It is from a very respected old French house. While initially it was a manufacturer of accessories, later it became very famous for its fragrances.
This scent is one of five in a series. It has more notes, but I will describe only two.
One is a sacred flower. However, according to a myth, it also has dangerous addictive properties when consumed.
The second note is a juicy tropical fruit with yellow flesh.
Both the flower and the fruit grow in the same country and became its national symbols, although the scent I am wearing is inspired by another country.
Hm, Un Jardin sur le Nil?
We have a winner!
🙂
Nope!
I need to try more Nicolai scents.
Nicolai Balle de Match?
Exactly!
And well before 7 a.m. my time, too. Let’s hope that’s not my last flash of inspiration for the day.
I’m sure it was just setting the tone for a brilliant day 🙂
I knew what it was as soon as I saw the image! Sometimes one has a psychic flash. (Have you ever played the board game Mysterium? Very interesting and I’m pretty decent at it.)
I thought the image would give it away!
And I have not…I will look for it.
A perfume from a major house where you have the freedom to give it your own name
Byredo Unnamed?
Good guess!
That is not the one
Mon Exclusif, Guerlain?
Yes!
A Le Labo scent?
Hello all and happy Friday! Here are my two hints.
“I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way” ~ Jessica Rabbit
I’m a spirit that comes from fruit, but I’m not exactly wine. 🙂
By Killian Apple Brandy? Or one of the Killians? Good Girl Gone Bad?
It’s Good Girl Gone Bad by Killing, excellent guess!
My Friday smoothie is spinach, Kefir, frozen berries and cherries and a scoop of vanilla protein powder. This tastes like a cherry creamsickle. 🙂
, I meant by Killian (not Killing).
They have an extreme edition, I can’t imagine this being stronger, it’s practically nuclear on me! It lasts into the next day.
Yay! I finally got one_LOL!
Btw, thanks for the tip on the spinach versus kale…today’s smoothie was peach, banana, spinach and a tad of honey…it was by far the best we have had…Mr. CM8 even asked for more 🙂
OH and I have cocoa protein powder…might try that tomorrow with bananas and peanut butter and spinach…the spinach is much smoother…..
hooray! I think we’re on the same page regarding perfumes. I was thinking you had a SSS Incense perfume on (I have that one also)!
I’m glad you like the spinach vs. kale, the texture is almost velvety in comparison – much nicer I think.
Let me know how the PB & Cocoa smoothie works, it’s the hubby’s favorite!
What do y’all use to mix your smoothies in?
A Ninja…the hubs bought it a while ago for his protein shakes but now we are using it for the smoothies…so far so good.
I use a VitaMix blender, I found mine at CostCo. I love it because it gives pureed & creamed soups a nice silky texture.
The first child of one of the top selling perfumes of all time.
Robin, I am guessing you are in Goutal. Not sure which one though.
Shalimar ? Chanel No 5?
Eau Premiere.????
The brand is water from an Italian city that and is known for variations of water from a German city…
Acqua di Parma?
Yes it is!! Iris Nobile edt. Will treat myself to the edp in fall/winter ????
Creed Acqua Fiorentina?
Ah… Acqua di Firenze Acqua Fiorentina?
Sounds lovely, but no cigar ????
4711? (this is a shot in the dark!)
The Cologne part is correct. But the right city is Parma!
Robin, Weekend aka Weekend a Deauville?
Good guess, right brand! But it’s Balle de Match / Eau de Sport.
Ha! The mention of the bottles is a dead giveaway for Parfums de Nicolai. ????
Yep.
I’m in a scent by Maurice Roucel. Soft, very elegant floral, with hints of iris, and an amber-and-vanilla note that reminds me of buttercream frosting. Feels old-school, but isn’t really.
Musc Ravageur?
No, but maybe I should try that one!
L’Instant de Guerlain?
Nope – another one I should probably try though!
Another hint: it’s from a venerable fashion house known for its leathers and stirrups, but there’s no hint of leather or horsiness in this fragrance.
Hermes Vanille Galante? Iris Ukiyoe?
No, neither of those. I tried Iris Ukiyoe a few years ago and it was icky on me, but maybe it was a bad sample. Vanille Galante is one I definitely need to try one of these days – is it as fleeting as most of the Hermessences are?
Hermes 24, Faubourg ?
And Bear wins the kewpie doll!
????????????
Gucci Envy?
Nope, not that one either. Wow, lots of guesses that I should really check out!
Envy’s gone and harder to find ????
24 Faubourg?
OOps! I see that Bear guessed it above.
Was a good guess though. 🙂
Two words: wire mother
No 19? 🙂
Bingo!
Mitsouko…No. 19, or Iris Silver Mist?
No. 19 it is! Described as such by TS in the original guide.
Zoologist Macaque.
Haha, I like this guess.
I always thought that was a terrible description of No. 19, but then I love No. 19.
Haha! Love that.
I’m definitely thinking Nicolai for you, Robin, though I don’t know the line well enough to guess the perfume.
Mine is:
A footfall shakes everything. I am not heavy, but my name is. I am the very definition of exotic; I’m no milky pudding like my sister.
Have a great day all!
Yep, Balle de Match.
And stumped on yours but working on it!
Sadly PdN is one of the few lines that isn’t anywhere close to me. The few I have tried I’ve really liked.
Ha, I thought I was being too obvious! I’m sure you’ll get it.
Nope…I see I should have gotten it but I can also see I wasn’t going to! Nice clues & good for Regina.
That is exactly the one I thought of. One of my favorites. I got a full bottle a couple of months ago.
Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant?
Yes! I got a 33ml travel spray last night and have been wafting it ever since. Great stuff.
1) SOTD= Flowers in space or… a diety holding flowers.
2) Bonus: (not sotd) Be warned as this scent may draw vampires. Conversely, it may also help to keep you from harm.
3) Orange and resins with a side of barf.
Happy Friday/Saturday NSTRS!
Eau de Protection?
Yes for the second bonus!
#1 Apollo Hyacinth?
Yes and yes. You guessed them alll this week Elisa. You really should get a prize!
I only got 2 of yours-props to whoever got De Profundis and haji who got the Puredistance. Your clues are very clever, my dear!
Well, smart girl, I have to make them hard because you are very clever. You guessed today’s without breaking a sweat. ???? Yoy might say that you are my yardstick. ????????
#3 L’Ambre de Merveilles?
ha! That is a good guess. My first thought was EdM.
I figured you’d get it for sure!
hee-hee, great minds think alike.
I must admit
I have, once or twice,
had a whiff of the vomit note,
and I don’t mind.
Now I wonder,
what does that say
for my nose!
I took at as whale vomit, tiffanie. Does EdM smell barf-y? I always gave that honor to Shalimar ????
Someone somewhere once commented that one of the Merveilles smelled like actual barf to their nose! For me it’s the idea of whale barf, thank goodness, but I know there can’t be real ambergris in EdM. Though once or twice when I hadn’t used my EdM spray bottle in a while the first spritz smelled kind of “off” and made me think “oh no please not the barf smell.” 😀 I’m sure it was just stale juice in the sprayer.
I was refering to the ambergris. I never smell barf when I wear EdM
llol to #3, I nearly choked on my coffee!
????
Shiseido Zen or Une Amourette
Good guesses but see ElisaP.
Wow, your #3 sounded kind of scary!
Mwah. ha, ha ha! It just popped into my hrad when I saw tbe bottle in my perfume cabinet. I thought it was funny not scary! ????
Head not hrad…fat fingerzzz..
Made by one of the few houses that doesn’t release 10 new scents every year, this summertime oriental is a lovely chai tea.
Jacomo Art Collection #08?
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Ooh, I love that one.
That’s what I was thinking but I couldn’t be bothered to look up the number. I only have the clay one, 03?
Water is life and death in film noir…
Forget it, Jake.
It’s Chinatown!
I knew you’d get it right away! 😀
Chinatown?
You betcha!
Not doing the project, because I have no imagination. Anyway I finished up a sample that I’ve had for years. Escada Acte 2 was one of the first samples that I ever received with a purchase. I culled through the whole of my sample box and pulled out all of the really low samples. It may take me the rest of the month to finish. Then I’ll move on to decants. After that minis. Then I’ll start working on emptying full samples.
Sounds like a sensible plan for culling the herd!
Sounds like we will be hearing a lot of THUNKS coming from you in the future. ????
Discontinued, classic spicy carnation
Floris Malmaison?
Exactly
Poivre?
Bellodgia Caron ?
☕☕☕????
I am gossamer and fleeting.
My name is often translated incorrectly.
Watch out ! My bottle may sting !
????✌
Is it a Guerlain scent in a bee bottle?
You may be buzzing ???? in the right bush.
Apres L’Ondee?
No, not April London. ????????????
Vole du nuit? Or however it’s spelled?
No, not Veil of Nutz. ????
Lol! Funny man ????????❤
Oh nooooo! I can’t unsee that! It’s *always* going to be Veil of Nutz in my head now. ????????????♀️????
Sorry/not sorry ? ????????????????????
Yeah, “Veil of Nutz” is going to be incredibly difficult to unsee for me too!
See above. ????????????????????
L’Heure Bleue?
Incorrect, not Hour Blue. ☕
EDC du Coq? ????
I wanted to suggest this one just to see how Bear will change it. 😀
Incorrect, not OH! Da ????!
????????????
You are KILLING me ????????????
Mouchoir de Monsieur
Found on the web: ” I used to assume that Mouchoir de Monsieur translated into English as ‘Mister Moustache’, which would be a fabulous name …” Lizzie Ostrom.
That is a good guess, but not Munchees Mr. ????
Liu? Not to be confused with Lui…
Il est incorrect dans les deux sens. ????
Ok then what about Chant d’Aromes?
Non.
The French word contains all the letters of the mistaken English translation plus one.
Gosh, I can’t get there! It doesn’t help that I’m supposed to be working right now…
Is it (not) fit for a knight?
No. ????
Now that‘s a pity ????
Idylle?
???? No, Liza.
Habit Rouge?
No, Johano, good guess !
I have to wear my Shalimar Parfum Initial when it cools down some. ????????????✌
L’Instant (at some point I suppose we’ll run out of Guerlains)?
Not for a while, but incorrect.
Jicky (not icky)?!
No, but I don’t like the lavender in J(icky). ????
Is it one of the (many) Aqua Allegorias?
Sorry, emoji provider.????????????????????☘????????????????????????????
Hmmm…L’Ame d’un Heros or Fleurs de Cedrat?
Aaaaaah: Fleurs de Cedrat!!
???? ???? ????
I can go to bed now.
Woe is you, Bear, if it‘s not this one ☝️
The answer !! Good job, galbanumgal !
Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat.
I can’t tell you how many people on the ‘net and IRL translate Cedrat to Cedar instead of Citron.
????????????????????????????????????????????☘????????✌
Wow! Congrats, geordie!
If not for you, tonight I would probably dream of elusive bees buzzing over my head. 😀
Bear, you are the king of puzzles. 🙂
????????????????????
It was all galbanumgal! ????
Often referred to by an acronym, my perfume today has some almond in it. Some think it smells a little like a clay like material that kids enjoy playing with.
Maybe Hypnotic Poison?
POTL Lucter et Emergo?
2nd vote for this!
3rd
4th!
La Petite Robe Noire or its flanker Ma Premiere Robe?
LPRN BP?
I am a sad, one star iris.
Happy Friday everyone!
Hermes Hiris
Excellent!
Luca may find it sad, but I think you smell great!
Me, too. It is still my favorite Iris ever.
My favorite Iris ever as well!
The only sad part for me is that it doesn’t stay on for too long – otherwise it would have been a total joy.
You smell great!
Smelling FANTASTIC!Who cares what “someone” said about it!????????????????
I love Hiris, and get 8-10 hour longevity. It may be my soulmate perfume. That’s why the 1 star review amuses and annoys me. Believe me, I keep wearing it!
13th letter of a semitic alphabet.
I’m wearing a dab of this for the first time and it’s not as weird as I thought it would be.
Bogue MEM? (Gosh, I am learning a lot today!)
Yes ????Though not sure what he intended MEM to mean.
I do wonder the “why?” behind the name MEM. 😉
I’m curious, too, but can’t find anything round the interwebs that explains it.
He also did Maii and Noun and I have no idea what their names mean either.
There’s some blurb on the Bloom site–though I have no idea if this is perfume shop blurbery, or originally from Mister G:
“MEM comes from the Indo-European word root that is at the base of many words linked to the idea of water, liquid, sea, fertility. In the Hebrew alphabet is the thirteenth letter and it means water with further meanings such as chaos, mighty, blood. Plus it has a beautiful sound and it’s a palindrome word…”
Almost 100 comments and I only just got to work! That’s a side effect of being on the West coast.
I’m a scent from a California indie brand and I share a name with a Prince song!
Trying to be less obscure than my limited 2006 flanker from yesterday. (It was L’Instant d’Une Ete.)
Purple Rain!
I mean, Reign.
No, but good guess!
Also, nice coincidence that the radio was playing Prince when I got in my car this morning.
She’s Always in my Hair! ????
Smell Bent 1999?
The guessing game queen strikes again! You got it.
Wearing Orange Sanguine again, so no need to say anything like “What am I drinking for breakfast?”
Here are some negative reviews of my fragrance from Basenotes:
“It’s REPULSIVE, and I don’t say that too often. It smells boozy and ridiculously metallic. It reminds me of silver cleaner mixed with whiskey or something along those line. Yuck!!!”
“A heavy synthetic incense with the same tart grape candy drydown in Chez Bond. Everything else about this fragrance is just plain odd to the nose.”
“Don’t get me wrong, I like the smell of Incense sticks , but I can’t possible think of a reason why anyone would want to smell like it?”
Bond No 9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory
Well done!
I remembered reading those reviews while wearing it. ????
To each their own! ????????
This is great! We should have a whole CP that is “guess the fragrance from the negative basenotes reviews.”
They’re pretty funny!
SOTD: a sky filled with a myriad of shifting gemstone colors.
I’ve got to go attend a morning of professional development breakout sessions (I know, I betcha wish you were here :-D), but I will check in later to see all of the creative perfume puzzles. I’ve been stumped by most thus far.
Ann Gerard Ciel d’Opale?
Yes!
Ciel d’Opal?
Correctomundo.
Kaleidoscope?
Nope, but that’s an intriguing option…..I’ll have to go look that one up.
Madtowngirl is right for my scent of the day.
A FriYAY poem to help you guess my scent…. 🙂
The work week is finally over
It’s finally time to play
Or sleep late, or garden…whatever makes your day
So enjoy some fun time
Have fun and make merry
And wear this floral, from the House of Burberry! 🙂
Answer? ʎɹɹǝqɹnq ʎq puǝʞǝǝM
Burberry Weekend!
Winner winner chicken dinner! 🙂
how did you do that?????????????????
I just kind of played around with my idea while I was commuting, until I had a poem in my head……I have some of my best ideas in my car, where I spend a great deal of my day….
HA HA HA HA HA
Just kidding (I know what you mean) …..I used the website upsidedowntext.com! 🙂
Jada you are a pip 😉
dᴉd ɐ ǝɹɐ noʎ ɐpɐſ
Your comments are wonderful 🙂
I also want to know!
I’m back at work, so throwing out a softball here.. I am the original of a thousand flankers, and Fox Mulder can’t stop thinking of me. What am I wearing? Happy Friday everyone????✌
Ha, Alien!
Got it! ????
Lol
????
Smelling wonderful! It is a wonderful perfume, although I cannot wear it myself(headache inducing!)a Colleague loves to wear it,and she has a light hand with the sprays.Love it on her!
Try the shower gel. That might not bring on a headache.
Fox Mulder!????
Right? I should have said that i can’t stop thinking of him!
LOLOLOL! I am so out of the sci-fi loop, I thought that was the woman! ????????????
David Ducovney. The character name could not have been more perfect.
Oh, how that made this X-phile smile! Good one. You smell great!
Perfume, X-files, and baseball!, what more could we need?????
Wow, you can wear the OG Alien in the summer?!?!? RESPECT!! It’s a middle of the winter scent for me.
I’ve built up a tolerance, LOL
Not participating in the CP. Busy morning taking my mother to a doctor’s appointment and now heading to work. No time to think about something for the guessing perfume name. I will try to read all the comments during the day. Love this CP!
I am in Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio for another hot and humid day.
Have a happy Friday everyone!
You smell great, and hope the appointment goes well!
Thank you Robin! Everything went well fortunately!
Good luck with everything today!!!!! Hope the appointment went well.
Thank you CM8! Busy day, but everything has been good so far!
And I also wanted to say that you have such beautiful perfumes in full bottle size…so glad that you are getting a chance to wear them now! Ninfeo Mio is with the fig note? Figs are so good for eating and wearing 🙂
Thank you CM8! After finishing all decants and samples, it is so rewarding to be back to my long neglected full bottles. Ninfeo Mio is the one with the delicious fig note. And I agree that fig are not only good for wearing, but for eating also. Once I start eating them it is not easy for me to stop! ????
You smell good! Do you have a bottle? Is it green?
Thank you! I have the old square light green/greyish bottle with the beautiful label design and cylindrical gold cap.
Every time I see your perfume mentioned, I call it Finding Nemo in my head, lol because I don’t know how to say it. Hope your day goes well!
LOL! ????
The day is ok so far. Waiting for the weekend to arrive, even though it will be busy as well as next week. No rest in the horizon!
Glad to hear that your mom’s appointment(s) went well this morning. Lucky you, having a full older bottle of Ninfeo Mio! Those colored bottles were so pretty.
And the scent is no slouch, either! ????
Thank you Jalapeno!
I am indeed lucky to have the old bottle of Ninfeo Mio and the perfume is a big summer favorite!
Moving very slowly this morning….only had four hours of sleep last night, so forgive me for being a goober….
“Aaaack, I’m terribly late for my appointment at the beauty parlor!!”
Who am I?
Vraie Blonde ? ????
Nope!
LOL, had the same idea. 😀
But you’re on the right track.
additional info: main note is one of Deva’s all time favorite notes. Also, I believe it was recently thunked by one of the marzipans…
Grey Vetiver?
Or Greylock, rather?
You got it! ????
Ha! had I commented earlier I would have said Greylocke 🙂
I thunked it when my youngest marzipan stole it…it still lives in his room for me to steal some spritzes when he isn’t looking-LOL!
I love your goobering….that was an excellent play on words!!!!
Thanks! This cp has been a real hoot.
SotD = Brevity is the soul of ____.
Wit!
Yes! 😀
You smell great!
thanks, Undina. I think Wit has some of the prettiest top notes I’ve ever smelled.
This is such a great CP, Robin 🙂 Possibly my favorite! I don’t think I ever read all the comments as intently as I do during Guessing Week, even though I’m bad at guessing.
Wearing a scent from a luxury fashion designer. The house is German, though I wouldn’t have guessed that from its name! It’s a pretty spectacular fruit salad 🙂 I get mango from it, though that’s not listed in the notes. One of the notes on Fragrantica is Big Strawberry; I couldn’t possibly tell you how that is different from Little Strawberry or Normal-Sized Strawberry, though.
Last day of Project Dress Nicely! PHEW. I believe it was Jalapeno who encouraged me to have an occasional week of dressing nicely in between my weeks of dressing like a scientist, and I think that’s all I’ll be able to manage. I’ve changed so much in the past five years. I used to LOVE dressing well. Maybe next time, I’ll remember to wear some jewelry, and even–gasp!–put on some make-up. Maybe.
One of the limited edition Escadas ?
Yes! Now the question is which one? (I don’t know the Escadas to know if the LEs are different enough for someone to figure out which one I’m wearing from my description. Hint: its name involves something often associated in the US with Native American jewelry!)
Turquoise? ????
That’s the one! Escada Turquoise Summer 🙂 I won’t need a bottle when I finish my sample (if I even could get a bottle of a LE), but I am enjoying the few mLs I have!
They were all fruit salads of sorts, but I thought they were fun. The only one I ever had was Ibiza Hippie-I wouldn’t mind a bottle for old time’s sake.
That’s a fun name 🙂
I have had every single bottle since 1994 and the earlier ones were less fruit salad….some even had oakmoss in them! I still have all my empties which I can sniff for reference.
Hey, have fun going back into “incognito” mode at work! Dressing up can be fun, but when so many of the clothes are either hand wash or dry clean only, it gets to be a pain fast!
Such a nice idea, a week of nice dressing. I’m perpetually stuck in grey tshirt and hoodie.
The golden sun embraces the leaves on the trees surrounding the piazza and warms the ancient bricks beneath my feet. The gentle burbling of the fountain in the square welcomes me to an outdoor cafe. A vase of fresh-picked old roses holds court in the center of the scrubbed, well-worn cedar table where I sit to enjoy a coffee. As the steam rises from my cup, it mingles with the fragrance of the roses and both soothes and stimulates my soul. I inhale deeply. La vie est belle! (The true meaning of the phrase, not the Lancome fragrance.)
This special place exists only in my imagination and in the warmth and beauty of one of my very favorite but discontinued scents. Elegant and exquisite fragrance, elegant and exquisite bottle.
I want to be there now, with coffee and all!
But can’t think of it. All that came to mind was TF Cafe Rose but that lacks discontinued + exquisite bottle.
Joining you in the sun-warmed piazza for coffee. Sounds amazing!
I actually visualized this as a brief solitary moment while I was waiting for a dear friend I hadn’t seen in awhile, so I’m happy to have you join me!
I had the same tbought about CR.
No, it’s not CR, but hope you’ll join us for coffee!
My first sentence holds a clue to the beautiful bottle . . .
This was meant to reply to Robin, don’t know how I put it here.
Probably wrong but maybe L’Or de Torrente?
Probably . . . RIGHT! It is my beloved L’or de Torrente. I’ve really enjoyed reading about everyone’s ‘thunking’ lately, but this is one I wear only sparingly and never want to thunk. If it can even be found, it’s now prohibitively expensive and I’ve never found another I’d consider as a replacement
It is on Torrente’s website, so it must be available for some countries. So maybe you can arrange a purchase somehow?
And I agree with what the others said: you painted a beautiful, vivid picture!
Seconding this!
If you need someone to send it on to you, I‘m in Germany… but they may even ship overseas? This page just says the shipping is “offered” to France & Europe — that‘s Franglais for “free shipping to France & Europe“. Maybe they charge to ship to other places…
Thank you, Glannys (and Geordie below, nowhere to reply to your post). The last time I looked (several years ago) the edp (which is what I have, I heard there’s an edt but it’s different) was unavailable except for places like Amazon and ebay and at several hundred $$$ per 1 oz. then. Perhaps things have changed? I will check it out.
And, as for my description, although I know the house is French, for some reason, it’s always an Italian piazza I see myself sitting in when I wear this scent (and I’ve never been to Italy, but I have been to France!)
Well I just Love your description of that imaginary place! And dying to know the fragrance!!
See my response to Glannys above. And please join me at the cafe and I’ll share my favorite coffee/rose fragrance with you!
Would love to!That bottle though…WOW.
Sorry, johanob, it’s mine for keeps. :). She’s a beauty, isn’t she? The smooth, oval, gold-embellished bottle fits perfectly in one’s hand, a tactile and visual delight. to add to the fragrance’s sensory delight.
I’m thunking a sample today – which smells of overripe fruit.
Byredo Pulp?
Ding ding! I smell like my fruit bowl that needs to be eaten today…:
Reminds me I need to wear that one soon!
Yes, I know I said I’d do it — I‘ve changed my mind, so what? No, I don‘t know whether I‘ll feel like it tomorrow. Anyway, it‘s against the law — I‘m not that sort of flower. You should ask my cousin, she‘s always up for stuff like that. No, don‘t be stupid, you can‘t ask my sister. Miss Goody-Two-Shoes isn‘t going to… oh, my other sister? The animal?
Hm….
Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby
Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby, YES I DO
Putain des Palaces
Charogne
Nope!
I‘ve just realized what a brilliant answer this is!
Thanks! 🙂
Ha! Me, too! Glannys, you’re killing it today ????
Tubereuse Criminelle ?
No — she‘s my cousin;)
One of the Histoires de Parfum Tuberose trio ? I have the third, Animale. ????????
Yes, she‘s the animal…
No 2 , is it Virginale ?
You‘re teasing me, aren‘t you?
I’m just crazy from the heat! ????
No 1 Capricieuse.
Yeeees!
Loved your clue! Fun!
Thanks 🙂
Eat your veggies! Or wear them. My veggie scent is from Robin’s favorite house, though IIRC it’s not a favorite scent of hers.
Is it funny that I can’t even guess the house? Ha…I can’t wait to find out this one, hope someone guesses it soon.
Is it Hermes Rhubarb Ecarlate?
Yes! You are the champion at this!
Can I include it on my resume? ???? Took me a minute to go through all the vegetable-y notes I could think of. Rhubarb scents usually smell more fruity to me, this one included.
And Glannys is way better at this than I am ????
I did not keep the score, but off-hand I’d say we guessed more or less the same number of scents. I think we make a good guessing team!
HA, that is hysterical. I really should have gotten that one.
Corsica Furiosa?
I know that Robin loves at least two Parfum d’Empire scents: Corsica Furiosa (with tomato leaf) and Azemour Les Orangers.
I’m a chypre but not a chypre. I’m a house and a home.
Happy Friday, NSTers! Have yourselves a great one!
Chanel, 31 Rue Cambon?
Yes! ????????????
I am wearing an Andy Tauer flanker that has gotten a 5 star review in The Guide. Can you guess?
Au couer de desert? Sorry for the spelling and the extra entry.
Yep!
The house was my intro to niche, and from where I made my most recent purchase….
I rarely drink it; I rarely eat it. But the combo is nice in this heat….
Earl Grey and Cucumber!
Or Assam & Grapefruit? 🙂
Nope to both
Fig-Tea?
PdN Fig Tea?
Yes to both PdN Fig-tea. I have been spritzing myself frequently as I’m out and about in the swamp of NYC.
I’ve never been a fig or a tea note fan. But I’m coming around big time.
I don’t get the fig at all and barely the tea. But I love that one, and love the price tag too!
Meant to wear this during the peach community project, as my choice is quite peach-forward to my nose. This scent has a well-recognized reputation as a BWF, created by a well-regarded woman, back in the day when women were rare as noses. According to Fragrantica, the scent appeals to wearers who would otherwise strike one as polar opposites: i.e, Martha Stewart and Courtney Love.
Tresor ?
Fracas?
Indeed, Elisa….innocence & mayhem all at once!
Peach in Fracas, eh ?
Noses are as unique as their owners. ????
I don’t think Martha Stewart is as innocent as she seems ????
You smell great!
Originally a lotion that was just seasonally available, these two free wheeling brothers create fragrances only to please themselves. No focus groups here! Imagine my joy to discover that they created a body spray inspired by this lavender and tonka body cream, utterly violet in color. Name the lotion and body spray. Really huge hint: all the packaging is black and recyclable.
Twilight
Yes! Makes a great linen and room spray too!
Ah *goes into Lush fan mode*, but it all started before the lotion! First, there was a Christmas ballistic, then a Christmas shower gel, then a LE perfume, only then a body lotion and finally a body spray. And maybe I forgot other Twilight-scented products… 😉
All true. I think it started with the Sleepy Lotion but there is also Sleepy body powder now that you mention it!
Created in the year of Peace & Music by the brand with probably the largest fan base among perfumistas, my name can be associated with war or with love. Who am I?
Chamade?
Chamade is corrrrrect! 🙂
You smell lovely, Undina! (Also, that was one of the few clue-scent pairings this week that I could actually guess, so thanks for that!????)
Thank you for playing and for the compliment 🙂
Sotd! Some people consider me to be the BEST FLANKER EVER,from one of the oldest perfume houses in France.Sadly discontinued.Johanob loves me in the Spring, and today he decided to wear lashings of me…
Shalimar Parfum Initial maybe?
Yes!Correct!
One of the rare examples when a flanker of the iconic scent becomes a successful, beloved scent, a classic in its own right, while being very different from the original fragrance. And then they discontinue it!
Unfortunately, SPI and my skin did not get along. I adore her younger sister, L’Eau, though. Especially in spring.
I totally agree with you.SPI should have been a new fragrance, not a flanker.I cannot understand why Guerlain culls the good ones so fast.
Smellin’ fantastic there, johanob!
Merci!????✌????
Lots of people got together to insure my birth. Thus I am a hodgepodge and possess too many notes to mention.
Aura?
No.
Haha, that is a very wiiiiide clue that could be literally anything released from 2010 upto now, sitting on a mainstream shelf somewhere!
It was released about a year ago.
Also, I would not call it mainstream.
The fragrance is “Eau My Soul”.
Ah!Now that I know what it is,your clue makes more sense!Good one!(I went with “lots of people got together…” meant a lot of perfumers were involved)
Same here
I could be an apricot tea but I’m neither of those. I’m a perfume worthy of an emperor. Forbidden? Never!
What am I?
Osmanthus Interdite!
You are right
Osmanthe Yunnan!
Whoops, I missed your response to Elisa
I thought the same 🙂
Good morning everyone! I haven’t had the chance to contribute to this week’s project, but I have thoroughly enjoyed catching up in the evenings. I’m in awe of both the puzzle setters and puzzle solvers!
I haven’t decided what to wear today, but it needs to be relatively quiet. We’ve got a four drive to Hawke’s Bay for a nephew’s 21st birthday, and I don’t want to be too overwhelming in the car. I might wear my latest purchase, the Gold heart from Map of the Heart.
Safe travels! ????
Hi to everyone, I too am very impressed by how clever many of you are at guessing and clue-dropping. Today is my birthday! I spent the morning on a present I didn’t want: air conditioner repairs. Boo hoo, but essential in our climate. I have received some nice gifts and cake and flowers and balloons! Going out with friends later for Margaritas and Mexican, and wearing Mania, from an ancient bottle that still smells fine. Back before I fell into Wonderland.
Happy birthday
Happy birthday! Enjoy the nice cold AC, and the yummy margaritas! I hope you have a fantastic year.
Happy birthday Calypso! Wishing you lots of health and a great year. Enjoy your time out with friends! ????????????????????
Happy Birthday! I hope the AC will behave even better since you gave it your attention on such special day 🙂
Happy Birthday!
Happy Scented Birthday, Calypso! ???????????????? Enjoy the friends, margaritas, and Mexican food!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Wishing you a wonderful year ahead! Enjoy the Margaritas and Mexican food . . . and the a/c when you return!
Happy birthday 🙂
Happy, happy birthday! Enjoy your evening. Sounds like a perfect plan.
¡Feliz Cumpleaños, Calypso! Enjoy those margaritas!
Happy Birthday Calypso!Hope you have a wonderfully fragrant year!❤️❤️✌????
Happy Birthday! I hope this year is a winner for you. Sounds like it’s starting off well.
Happy Birthday Calypso!
Happy Birthday, Calypso. I hope you are recovering well from your correction surgery.
Happy birthday, Calypso! I hope you had fun this evening. ????
Hope it is a great evening Calypso!
It’s a seriously hot and humid day for me… triple digit heat index. Very thankful for AC! ????????
SOTD = What am I? I come in two different concentrations. Some people claim that the EdT is a summer scent, while the EdP is more of a fall/winter/holiday scent. I share the same name as a famous work of art. My house has recently had a somewhat controversial name change.
Annick Goutal, pardon me, I mean Goutal Paris Nuit Etoilee?
Correct! ????
Actually, my sample is from before the name change. Hope they didn’t change the scent!
I have both concentrations in the dark blue ribbed bottles! I wouldn’t wear either concentration in the summer, especially if it is anywhere like today in NJ.
I can get away with a light application of the EdT in summer. No way would I even THINK of wearing the EdP, though!
In the mountains, painted with marmalade, roses, and oakmoss.
Stumped! Sounds pretty though.
Hard! Another clue?
Wow, harder than I thought! The first part of the clue references the name from two angles (both, I guess, somewhat obscure). The mountains are in Europe.
Robin, it is pretty and I think you own and like it (though I can’t remember you mentioning wearing it in a very long time).
Geordie: It’s from a house I love, even though I’m not a duchess.
Hm… mountains and painted… does Caron have a duchess connection?
Yep
Ah — The Guide! Caron is for duchesses, Guerlain for cocottes… so it has to be…
Alpona!
The old saying (per LT in The Guide) was that Caron was for duchesses and Guerlain for coquettes.
Got it!!!
I added the quote from The Guide before I saw that you already had it
Aha! I have not mentioned it because I don’t have any more. You smell great 🙂
😉
Alpona?
Ah, Geordie got it. Did not see her answer, sorry.
Yes!!!
What a relief!
Alpona sounds very lovely:)
😉
Very late to the party, visiting a friend and other stuff so it’s past midnight where I live.
Wearing a scent with a great name that manages to be both funny and totally inaccurate. From a niche brand. Should be called: Tout, et à jamais!
Have a great weekend everyone, and I totally loved this CP.
Rien?
Great guess, I should wear that soon !
Yes!
Late as well but. A mannered orchid pod from the God of trade!
Velvet Orchid by Tom Ford?
No but I did have the first one from Tom Ford and loved it.
Vanille Galante?
Brilliant guess, I guess I misinterpreted the god of trade reference.
I found it funny 🙂 he is a marketing god too!
It was very late when I read this and Ford was the first one I thought of, in a tongue in cheek sort of way.
Thanks!
Correct!
🙂
SOTD: A classic from my favourite house, this scent has two colours in its name. These colours are represented in the packaging… first the box and then the bottle. This is a member of a collection, none of which are flankers. ????
Eau d’orange vert – hermes?
You got it!
SOTD = Mineral Rock Pool
NST Insider Clue – it is a flanker to a perfume I associate with tiffanie
The name of the house is that of a god. The bottle looks heavenly and looks like it was split in half.
On my way home from dinner with a co-worker. Smelled in the wild – Chanel No. 5, Box of Eels and something with jasmine I couldn’t place.
Commuting Woes No. 451:
No matter how hit the forecast, I wear 3/4 sleeves shirt because I cannot stand having another commuter’s sweaty arm flesh touching my skin. Yesterday, the woman next to me had her shoulder back and arms extending into my air space reading and highlighting what looked like a text book. I really couldn’t say anything and at least there was a barrier (my sleeve). I got to thinking that perhaps I should find plastic or some air tight fabric that I can slip my arm into to act as a 2nd barrier. If the person sitting next to me doesnot like its texture touching his or her skin, then THEY need to figure out how to avoid it.
Well I know it’s Hermes, trhough I don’t know the bottles…Eau des Merveilles Bleue?
Perhaps you might devise a sort of invisible fence-sleeved shirt that would put an end to fellow commuter encroachment!
You are correct!
I need a force-field around me!
Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue was my guess, too. galbanumgal beat me to it!
Eww, sweaty arm touching!????
You guessed it, too so you’re a winner!
I used to take the bus back in my college days, and I did not like it one bit when someone invaded my personal space. However, sticking your arm in a plastic bag would have the unfortunate side effect of making your own arm all sweaty and gross. You need something like a burlap bag… that stuff is so scratchy!!
I’ll need to think of something that would look like a believable accessory. I imagine something made with sequins
That could work if the burlap sleeve was lined with flannel or something soft.
woot-woot! Bleue is beautful. 🙂
You are correct!
If I had to commute in such circumstances, I would be a very unpleasant and obnoxiously loud complainer (commenting on how people should not touch me) or openly confrontational (putting a magazine or a newspaper between me and an offender). I refuse to suffer silently.
