Yep, it's Monday again. It's also International Lefthanders Day and Alfred Hitchcock's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Marni Rose.
Reminder: 8/17 will be Guessing Game Friday, edition 2. Describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top images from Marni Spring Summer 2018 campaign.
Happy Monday all!
Today’s SOTD is vintage Opium extrait for ramping up for our Fall Semester. Today will fly by in a flash.
Vintage? I can smell you from here
You smell like Autumn perfection!
You smell fab! I have a tiny bit of it on the way to me from STC.
Yowza!!! I wish I was sitting next to you-LOL! Good luck with the new semester. The two eldest mini marzipans are leaving in less than a week 🙁
And my simple smoothie today was strawberries, kale and avocado…surprisingly delicious.
That sounds yummy!
Today’s smoothie was spinach, kefir, mango and kiwi. I think that’s the hubby’s favorite so far. My stomach feels better for it!
Today’s lunch is mixed greens salad, roasted chicken, asparagus, peppers and tomatoes, with a home made Caesar dressing.
Hard workout yesterday (extra cardio/legs) so taking today off!
And I finished up a decant of L’ Artisan’s Jatamansi – it’s nice (I love herbal scents) but I have to be on the mood for it. Not FB worthy for me.
thunk 😉
Vintage Opium? WOW!
Caron pour homme
-Thunk-!!!!!
Homemade chai tea – don’t be jealous ya’ll
This combination of scent and tea sounds like a recipe for relaxation!
I am jealous of the scent *and* the tea.
thunk it up 😉
Totally jealous..
Passing you all virtual cuppa
I would love a home made Chai tea right now.
There’s a favorite place in Half Moon Bay (Ramen’s Coffee & Chai) that makes the best I’ve tried so far. Sweet, creamy and spicy.
My father in law makes a good cup, he grinds the spices himself and uses fresh ginger
That sounds so spectacular! I love the heat that Ginger brings. It’s mouthwatering. 🙂
Envy! I have a 100 ml bottle of the Caron and about 90 ml to go.
You smell green and florist shop lovely!
Does anybody want to warm up for Friday and try to guess my perfume?
The perfume house is one of the oldest in the world and has a legendary status (anyone interested in perfumes heard of this house).
My scent is marketed as masculine, though it smells perfectly androgynous to me, in a good way. It has a long name, and its fans often use an acronym to refer to it. When describing it, people normally mention patchouli and sweet notes/one particular sweet note (although I also get a lot of florals on my skin).
Stumped at the moment. But it’s early yet.
I’ll post more hints later, if nobody guesses it.
L’Instant de Guerlain?
Close enough!
Iam wearing the ‘extreme’ version, L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Eau Extreme, or LIDGE.
I love l’instant but have never tried LIDGE.
I’ll play guessing game too – I’m in the hardest to web-search of all the vintage Diors.
Dior Dior?
Got it in one – Dior-Dior, the perfume most obviously created before search engine optimization was a thing
Ha…but their next perfume is to be Dior Joy, and it ain’t a whole lot of fun to google either!
But agree Dior Dior is possibly the worst.
Even if you put “Dior Dior” inside the quotation marks? Does not help?
Tried it. Yeah, I see what you mean. It helps, but there are still a lot of irrelevant results.
Exactly.
Dior Forever and Ever?
SOTD: MCDI Un Coeur en Mai. Beautiful floral.
Question: Do you guys ever layer your perfume with one of the aromachemicals like Ambroxan or Iso Super E? I’m fascinated by Another 13 (which I almost can’t smell but has this mysterious, unemotional woody sparkle) and wondered if I could somehow smell it more if I combined it with other frags?
Interesting question and I don’t know, but I will say that ambroxan in particular, I find the smell comes and goes, and in particular I find it hard to smell without a fair amount of humidity.
You smell fabulous. I have a bottle that I don’t reach for often enough.
I have heard people say they layer Escentric Molecule 01 (ISO E super) under their other scents to amp them up, but I haven’t tried it.
I use to be a big fan of both ambroxan and ISO E. However, for some unknown reason, I’ve grown to loathe them and can easily detect them. While sniffing Le Labo’s yesterday, I noticed their presence in several.
I still love iso e, but I understand totally why so many people have come to hate it as the number of fragrance releases has skyrocketed.
That happened with me with ambroxan. Out of nowhere, it became the note I smell over everything else. I wish my nose would stop doing that.
I’m back to my project of finishing off samples. Today is Imaginary Authors Mosaic. This is perfect for the hot weather today.
I really like that one, nice to see it mentioned!
Twins! I want to like Imaginary Authors more than I do, because I love their packaging, but the scents are all meh on me.
shouting out all my fellow left handers today! wearing chanel 22, to make the best of a bad situation (i.e. monday).
got an email from birchbox this morning and they are having a 60% off sale; some l’artisan, penhaligon, and helmut lang on offer. alas i am on a no-buy this month…
Joining you in a no-buy this month. Stay strong!!
I second that!
Yay left-handers unite! ????
😉
Wearing Delrae Panache and thinking about getting a London Fog when I get to work.
You smell wonderful.
Go lefties! 😀
You smell great!
I’m wearing Chanel no. 19 EDT today, layered with just a couple dabs of a mystery scent which you will have to guess…
Here’s my clue: the mystery scent shares several prominent notes in common with No. 19 (enough that I’ve started thinking of it as “No. 19 Pour Homme”), but while 19 is marketed as a luxury women’s perfume, this one is an inexpensive men’s cologne. According to Fragrantica, both were launched within 5 years of each other.
What am I wearing?
Oh and happy lefthanders day to my fellow lefties!
It bet it’s Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel. I always thought they were really similar.
You’re right!
It TOTALLY is No. 19 Pour Homme, isn’t it?
I loved the original GF. I always sniffed the bottle in stores when I saw one. Wish I had bought some for myself back then. I’m almost afraid to ask if the current version is any good?
Naomi Goodsir again today: Cuir Velours and Bois D’Ascese, a bit on each arm. Two thunks! So sad!
Don’t be sad….more skin time for other lovelies…keep on thunkin’
So very true. I’ll be in something else this afternoon!
I love both of those! You smell great.
Thanks! I think Cuir Velours is my favorite of the two.
SL Arabie, completely at random: I reached into a drawer and sprayed on the first thing I grabbed. It’s so gorgeous.
I don’t reach for that often and I have to reach for that sometime soon.
Arabie is great. I have never tried it in the heat but love it in winter and fall.
Drinking some Betty’s Tea Room Blend, from a trip to England a year or so back. It’s good, but I sure could use a lovely selection of tea cakes to go with it…..
Commando at this point, since I am going to the gym in a few minutes. My plan to help myself get through the fall semester with less stress is to start every weekday with a gym session, or with some sort of movement work (yoga, mobility, etc.). I am going to try to do that FIRST, before I start thinking about work.
good for you!!! I started stretching with Mr. CM8 every night and include a bit of gentle yoga. Hopefully I can keep this up. Hope you can as well!
Prada Tendre with a tiny spray of Jo Malone’s Vetyvr in honor of youngest’s birthday. I stole a spritz 🙂 . This and the Lime and Sweet Cedar will soon be thunks for him. Longevity is so so which means lots of sprays.
Yay for lefthanders! My middle one is one and had I been born in a different era I probably would have been one as well.
KellyC was right…I bit off more than I could chew. I was naughty this weekend and had coffee AND black tea.
Happy Birthday to your youngest!
Thank you my dear 🙂
LOL, I told ya, there was no way I could do the coffee too!
Ha! alcohol is one thing but caffeine!!!!! i need it-LOL!
Happy Birthday youngest marzipan! ????????
thanks bear, his almost birthday twin 🙂
Happy Birthday to the Youngest Marzipan! ????
thanks Deva!
Happy Birthday to your youngest Marzipan!. I wish him the best and hope he enjoys his perfume presents, even if he “THUNKS” them quick! 😀
How long for you to finish Prada Tendre?
Thank you pl67! he is thunking along with us 🙂
Interesting question..i think it depends on how lavishly I spray…anywhere from one to two weeks would be my guestimate.
You smell lovely. Happy birthday to mini Marzipan!
I smell lovely because of you 😉
thank you for the well wishes!
Happy Birthday mini cm8! Hope you all have a nice celebration ????
Thank you Elisa (he is the youngest but not the “mini-est”- that would be me-LOL!! )
The other two minis took him to a Korean/Japanese restaurant on Saturday where he ate up a storm….
Somewhat belated birthday wishes to your youngest Marzipan, CM8! ????????????
thanks Jalapeno!!!!
Happy Birthday to the kiddo!❤️❤️
thanks, love 🙂
Happy Birthday, young Marzipan!
thank you M!
Played with my daughters make up again today. I have iridescent purple highlighter under my brow bone. I look VERY Awake LOL! Guess my sotd: I’m wearing a designer fragrance known for making really good musk perfumes, and giving them confusingly similar names. I’m wearing the woody marshmallow version.
narcisco rodriguez and I adore your makeup! Hope you have a great day lillyjo and get to your own “weekend” soon!!!!
Ha but I don’t know which one…pink white or black bottle? I get them confused myself-LOL!
Exactly! Lol, I will see if anyone else will guess the version.
Is it the square black bottle, Narciso edt?
Nope, but close ????
The pink poudre, which sounds a bit naughty……
????????????
Lol!, ????but… no
White Cube!! You smell great!
Yep! The one with the best made up name.
Isn’t makeup fun these days? I wish I could get away with all the glitter and amazing colors, but at 53, I only wear makeup to work. I don’t want to scare my coworkers or patients by going naked faced!
Although…I did get lash extensions last week and thought I had communicated my desire for “natural longish lashes,” but when I looked in the mirror I almost screamed! Super long and dramatic! It looks like I have 2 fuzzy catapillers hanging out on my eye lids ????
It’s all I can muster to slather a pump of Lubriderm on my face, post shower.
I would make the world’s worst woman. ????
And I would make the worlds worst man!
oh Bear you crack me up!!!
I bet those lashes look phenomenal!
I am with you on the age but I go naked face most of the time because I am so darn lazy. Most of my co-workers know when I have an important meeting because those are the days I dress up and wear make up (usually just mascara, tiny bit of blush and lipgloss and I borrow it from middle Marzipan who has an arsenal of that stuff). like Bear said about himself, I am terrible at being a woman because I know very little about beauty products and just slather on whatever is around the house…usually some kind of oil of sorts (and yes, I have resorted to olive oil as moisturizer for convenience sake)
Under eye concealer and ambient lighting powder are a must at 52. Your eyelashes sound dramatic!
I just came back from getting my hair cut (thank god, I was so overdue!), and noticed that all the young women at the salon seemed to be wearing heavy pink metallic eyeshadow. Guess it’s a “thing.”
I need that purple highlighter to look myself AWAKE too! I am sure you look great! I am in my 3rd can of regular Pepsi, after 3 cups of iced coffee in the morning. Let’s see what my next drink will be 😀 :D. The weekend is around the corner!
I’ve got my 32 oz diet coke, and a 16 oz on stand by, alternating with good old water. The highlighter is working some miracles.
Your highlighter sounds fun! I don’t go too crazy with makeup, but on days when I look especially sleepy, I like to dab a little highlighter on the inner corners of my eyes to brighten them up.
Oh, maybe tomorrow I will try that trick!
Hey lillyjo, what’s the name of that purple highlighter you borrowed? Inquiring minds want to know!
It’s in a highlight kit from Morphe. I think it’s an ULTA only brand, from the summer line up. It has 6 different highlight colors .
Wow, that sounds very fun.. I just googled Morphe and it looks like a fantastic line.
True confession: I love makeup almost as much as perfume; although I try to go for a no-makeup look usually, it takes me longer than it should in the morning.
Good morning Y’all….
Had a busy weekend doing all the usual Mom stuff, including a few hours outside in my garden. Had 2000 things to do and only got 1000 things done, but that’s OK!
Since I still want to be outside (planning my fall veggies now), I’m wearing Demeter Tomato and LOVING IT! It smells like the real deal!
Here’s yesterday’s haul of “Super Sweet” cherry ‘maters…. 🙂
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bma0Na6HNzL/
Now planning my fall lettuce and chard garden….and this year I’m adding some Asian greens too….nom nom nom nom nom nom
Forgot to mention I’m a Southpaw too….Happy Lefthander’s day! We’re always in our right minds…. 🙂
True that!Haha!????????♂️
Oooh, those tomatoes look gorgeous and yummy!
Yum! I’m jealous of your garden!
Very nice haul of tomatoes! Yum! ????
Robin, are you wearing Marni in honour of Hitchcock’s movie? (“Marnie”?) Musing on this made me wish there were a perfume named “North by Northwest”!
Even more convoluted. Daniela Andrier once said that Hitchcock was the person she’d most like to have created a fragrance for. Andrier made Marni. Marni -> Marnie.
But that story seems sadder in post-me-too times given what all Tippi Hedren has said about working with Hitchcock.
I love so many Hitchcock movies it would be hard to pick, though. North by Northwest was a great one.
Very interesting tale–glad I asked!
I know, many of them are great, including his last one which critics don’t think much of. Family Plot. I suppose The Birds and Frenzy are my two favorites, although I believe N x N is the best.
I have never seen Family Plot! I have seen The Birds but only twice, too scary! Never made it all the way through Psycho, for that matter.
Love Vertigo, Rear Window, N x N, To Catch A Thief.
Rear Window is my favorite!
Frenzy is full of macabre humor, but is rather grisly.
Never could watch Psycho all the way through, either. In fact, I have to have clear shower curtains or doors as a result of seeing that movie! It totally freaked my cookies OUT.
I’m a high society’s favorite and I smell like something you could drink. I’m not an instrument but you’d need ‘one’ to sip me. I look at the world through pink glasses and I’m not a saint even though I was invented by a monk.
What am I?
YSL Yvresse/Champagne?
Nice try but it’s not what I’m wearing
Une Rose, with rose wine reference?
Liquids Imaginaire Dom Rosa?
YAS!
I’m in SSS Equestrian today for all its wonderful appley goodness in the opening. I’m feeling like fall should hurry up and get here already! In that vein, I have just seasoned a nice cast iron skillet and will making this for dinner:
https://www.wellplated.com/chicken-apple-sweet-potato-and-brussels-sprouts-skillet/
If this isn’t fall in a pan, I don’t know what it. Have to go to the grocery store before it gets to be a million degrees out…! Fall, where art thou?!?
Your dinner looks delicious. I love Brussels sprouts.
Me too! Especially oven roasted in basalmic vinegar with some crumbled bacon ????
Middle marzipan hanging over my shoulder on the computer said “Wow that looks good”….I am comin’ to your house , Deva!
Cat instagram yesterday was hysterical…forwarded it to everyone this morning because everyone needed a great laugh on MOnday morning.
Come on over! Just remember BYOC (bring your own chair) since I have only one lonely camp chair.
That cat just kills me! They get the greatest photos of him and his dour expression. There’s some good ones of him hiking with his bipedals, all snugged down in a backpack! So cute!
I love a cast iron skillet (I have two haha) and that dinner looks so yummy!
I have my grandmother’s cast iron skillet. It’s awesome!
Ditto my response to KellyC! No hand me downs in my family, sadly.
Lucky you! I’m sure they are seasoned to perfection! I never knew how versatile cast iron was. When I got it in my head that I wanted to get one, I started looking into recipes, and holy cow! You can do ANYTHING with these pans as long as you care for them properly.
Dang! Your dinner looks so yummy! And Mr. Jalapeno has a large cast iron skillet that belonged to either his mother or one of his grandmothers. Hmmmmmmm….
I think using cast iron adds flavor to some foods. I used mine tonight to fry eggplant but I normally use it for making veggie stir fry.
Petunia, do you wash it in soap and water? I deglazed mine the best I could but it was still looking a bit rough on the bottom…????
I do wash it in soapy water but I dry it thoroughly and rub a light coating of flax oil inside the pan before putting it away, depending on what I used it for. I put a paper towel inside the pan so the oil doesn’t transfer onto pans that I nest inside. It was already very well seasoned when it was passed down to me. It’s very old. I’d guess 1950s or 60s. Possibly older.
It was delish! It didn’t look quite as good as the recipe photo because for some reason the sweet potatoes were white, so you couldn’t tell them apart from the apples. I love one pot meals because I’m super lazy when it comes to cleaning up after the meal…????
The things I cook rarely look like the picture attached to the recipe but your dish sounds yummy and healthy too! Plus, it looks like you did a lot of chopping and peeling to prepare this meal. A++ for effort. ????
I haven’t worn my Equestrian since it got hot – I miss it. You smell great!
I lost my travel spray and was devastated! Then, SHAZAM! I Founf it this morning! I love it and wish I had the biggest bottle Laurie offered.
I have the smaller bottle (17ml?) and wish I had the bigger one!
Maybe we will get lucky and the new owner will resurrect these beauties!
It’s damp, drizzling and cold in my area today so I went with Lyric. IMO, Lyric is the perfect name for this beauty. Sort of the opposite of this week’s cp. No riddles for me today. Happy Monday all!
Today is a day off for most people where I work but here I am. I hope that I can get out of here early… ugh…
Hope you succeed in getting out, Petunia!
Did you say cold? I’m coming for a visit! ????
Hope that your drizzle doesn’t cause you any commuting issues! ????
Mine is a toughie; I rarely see it mentioned here. My perfume is from a house best known for cosmetics. Its most prominent note is a barbaric flower beloved from India to Grasse. It’s a very oriental interpretation of this flower, sticky and sweet.
I smell great, but Monday morning is off to a mediocre start. In the hour that I’ve been at work, I’ve already spilled coffee twice, on my white blouse and my pale blue pants. The one day I try to look a little nice at work….
You’ll be happy to know that my congestion cleared up in time for Super Fancy Dinner on Saturday 🙂 I had a fabulously decadent belated birthday dinner. It did serve as a reminder of how spoiled I am. I ate at this same restaurant five years ago and it blew my mind. Now, after years of Michelin starred experiences in Europe, it was merely wonderful. Maybe I just need a change from the French culinary tradition to be wowed again.
Rose Barbare?
Hey, I’m glad you had fun at your birthday dinner! ???? ????
So close–same flower, different house!
And thanks 🙂
Hope your day starts going smoothly.
Thank you! Me too! At the very least, I don’t plan on drinking any more coffee today….
Are you wearing Lancôme’s Roses Berberanza?
Hope your day improves and a Happy belated Birthday to you!
This is correct! Not as hard as I thought 🙂 or you’re just very knowledgeable!
Thanks for your kind wishes 🙂
I was just reading about these Lancome releases and thinking of trying Santal Kardamon. How is the Rose?
It’s really warm and sweet and beautiful. A very kind NSTer actually gave me samples of four or five of the line, and they’re all really well done. This one might be my favorite. I know it’s silly, but…those bottles make me want them even more than the lovely perfumes inside! If you can get your hands on Santal Kardamon, do try it!! It sounds delicious. Also, I have decided cardamom is my favorite perfume note.
Those bottles are beautiful and good to hear the juice is good too! I love cardamom – if you like a warm oriental cardamom-forward scent, lune feline from atelier des is great
Lancôme Parfait de Roses? I think that’s the sweet one in the Maison line?
Right house, right flower, wrong perfume! Adanst got it just above 🙂
Hurray! Good to hear that you enjoyed your B-day dinner! OTOH, I think you trying different cuisines is an excellent idea. You are in one of the primo restaurant areas in the US, if I remember correctly. There’s got to be something fantastic out there waiting for you to discover it.
You’re definitely right–lots of great food near me! It’s hard to climb out of the trap of going to the same few favorite places, though 🙂 especially because a lot of great options are just down the street from me. I’ll do my best to try exciting new places!
Morning all! Lots to do today, and to quote Poo bear and Robin, “tut tut, looks like rain”, for a he foreseeable future. ????so I’m think my SOTD will be Eau de Merveilles, for a little magic sparkle. Question though,???? the reviews I’ve read have EDM as an ambergris(probably ambroxin) scent, but on Fragrantica, that isn’t listed in it’s noted or description, but Amber is? Im trying to learn to identify notes and accords and don’t want to misnomer what notes are in it when I tell someone about it. Dose anyone know for sure whitch it is?
You smell great! I thought it was ambergis, but am not sure.
Amber means literally nothing — it is always an accord or an aromachemical like ambroxan, or both. Ambergris is almost never real ambergris in modern times, so when you see it in a list of notes, it doesn’t mean anything different from “amber”.
If you found out for sure that EdM had ambroxan, that would still tell you nothing — that’s what I’m trying to say 🙂
What we know is that the perfumers were trying to recreate different facets of real ambergris using modern materials.
Three cheers for sperm whale poop! More costly than gold!
Lol,Is it poop or barf?????I have heard either/or. But unless some one witnesses it happening,I guess will never know for sure. Either way I find perfume history/science fascinating. and I love Hermes’ interpretation of this in EDM.
Thanks for asking this (poop vs barf)! I am wondering the same thing. ????
Poop! Waste product mixed with giant squid beaks, marinated in salt water, warmed by the sun, until some lucky soul finds it washed up on a beach. That lucky person most likely will never have to work again.
Thanks! That clears up things for me.????
Parents can home Saturday and it’s been stressful. Wearing vintage Feminite du Bois today, hoping my day will get better.
Hoping the stress eases up. Hugs.
At least you smell great – hope things settle down for you soon.
It’s good to hear that your parents are out of the hospital. I hope that some of the stress can ease up now for you.
In my world travels, I’m making a stopover at a lovely tea plantation in India. Care to guess my SOTD?
Assam of India?
My guess as well.
Nope. This scent is part of the brand’s “cruise collection”. Apparently their cruise makes several stops… India, Italy, the Marquesas, Brazil. That would be a whole of ship-time for not a lot of destinations 🙂
one of the Diors in the same collection as Escale a Portofino?
Ding ding ding! Yes, Escale a Pondichery.
Oh yay!!I just could not recall the actual name of it!Hehe!
After talking about Erdenstern over the weekend I wearing it now. Lovely herbs and incense…
That one is my favorite from AA. You smell wonderful.
I am in Le Mat by Menditerrosa. Trying some of the Luca Turin’s 5 star fragrances.
Question to you guys (asked pretty late yesterday) – what are people’s thoughts on Dame Body creams? Are they really rich and hydrating? And are they strongly fragranced?
For me, they are wayyyy too strongly fragranced. They go on nice and smooth, and feel rich, but then my hands are dry again ten minutes later 🙁
They are strongly fragranced, average hydration.
Monday mystery scent: a jar of plums and leather. One for Nicola Adams, perhaps?
The UK boxing champ? I am thinking Mary Greenwell Plum? although not sure if there is leather in that one….
Yes on identifying Nicola Adams…but dstsuave has it with Boxeuses
I’m going to guess SL Boxeuses.
Yep! Packing a punch with uncle Serge 🙂
Hermessence Cedre Sambac
I am lemming that one really bad!
It’s fully lem-worthy. You smell great, barqs!
SotD = a carnalised torrid emu
Last night the cedar was strong. This morning there is the surprise of vanilla in the oriental remnants. Added a few radiant dabs to help me through this drowsy Monday morning, a perfect dream of Saharan breezes. 😉
If it’s Sahara Noir, I will be extremely jealous!!
not Sahara Noir, but that’s the right “neighborhood.” 😉
You smell lovely
thanks, Lovestosmellgood! I dabbed much more than usual, “l’air” around me is very nice right now.
L’AIR DU DÉSERT MAROCAIN?
woo-hoo, that is correct!
ha! I should have known that!!! One of my favorite perfumes!
I’m thinking of changing my screen name to “A Torrid Carnalised Emu” — love it!
That could make for a great password, too, if it isn’t too long…
genius idea!
lol, glad you enjoyed it! I used an online anagram generator to switch around the letters in LADDM.
Another hot day here, I am busy housecleaning for guests coming tomorrow. Wearing Dzongkha.
You smell great! Hope the chores go quickly.
Thanks! Mostly done, just have to scrub the bath and make the guest bed. 🙂
sotd: AdP Magnolia Nobile
Yesterday I was checking out the new Le Labo counter at Nordy’s about 2 hrs away. After a wonderful chat, the SA went into the back and got the City Exclusives testers for me to sniff (on the hush-hush.) I LOVE the Benjoin and Poivre! But the prices…..????????????????
I manage to justify a lot of my perfume purchases but these would be a hard sell ( to my conscience!) ????
Wow! What a fabulous SA! Agree that those exclusive prices are completely ridiculous. Scentsplit sells decants of them year round. Not to enable or anything.????
I bought a sample set of the City Exclusives last fall at a standalone LL place in Houston and have tested them off and on. I did buy the littlest bottle of Mousse de Chene, and I agree about loving Benjoin and Poivre. But the one that’s been a real sleeper and is turning into a lusted-after one is Baie Rose 26. Gosh it’s gorgeous! Rose, pepper, cedar, just sort of simple and smooth, and it melds into your skin in a mood-altering way. Don’t think I’ll buy it though. Too much $$$$.
We have Le Labo counter in PDX and a Le Labo store. The prices are WOWZERS and every tourist from the Antipodes and Asia seem to pick up a bunch! 🙁
Purchased a bottle of Poivre 23, 4 years ago, don’t regret it.
Probably, per ML, my most expensive perfume.
It is quite lovely, balsamic Labdanum and Black Pepper on my skin.
????
I agree, bought this one too. It’s special.
Saturday scent redux.
I’m an homage to a best-selling perfume, in that, everyone wants a branch of the money tree.
I have an added tropical fruit note.
Eponymously named, R.I.P.
Who am I?
☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕
✌????
I have no clue on the perfume but so happy to see all your signature EMOJIS!! ✌????
????????????????
✌????????????
Is it by Hugo Boss?
Incorrect, but good guess, Robin.
Maybe I have made it too difficult/vague, this should reveal the answer.
The bottle is shaped like the person’s signature items.
❔❔❔
I’m pretty much stumped.
Perfume is named for a person. That person is dead. It is a flanker of an original. The bottle is shaped like something that person made and is known for. It has pineapple.
Judith Leiber seems unlikely. Something from Salvador Dali?
Or wait, you just said items, you didn’t say the person made them.
Elizabeth Taylor is another possibility…
It smells like a flanker because of aroma, but it is not. It is a different house than the uber selling original.
No for Elizabeth Taylor.
Is it one of the Ferres?
And a version of Aventus?
No, and no.
But keep guessing ????????
I’m glad that you clarified a little on “the bottle is shaped like the person’s signature items”. That could result in some rather startling mental images! ????????
Yikes !!
Won’t even type what I’m thinking………….????
Dior Sauvage maybe??Lol
No, Johano.
????
That other website correctly lists pineapple, but if you search BY “pineapple” it isn’t listed !!! ????????
Lol…Gosh darnit you’re good with clues!!
Music for a while?????????♂️????????♂️
No, haven’t smelled that one yet.
This sold quite well, had its own flankers, a masculine version that didn’t smell like it, and has been discontinued.
Very rarely see it mentioned, but it DID SELL. ✌????????????????
Is it something from Versace?
Donatella say No.
????????????
Oh wait….Alexander McQueen comes to mind….maybe?( one of the new flankers?)
No, but I look forward to wearing Kingdom when the weather cools. 😀
No Bear you have me stumped….lol
Sorry, hope you had fun trying !!
????✌????
Haha!Anything perfume related is always FUN!Hope you reveal the answer soon if nobody gets it!00:00…bedtime!✌????????
I’m seriously stumped, too, but now I’m a little obsessed, lol!
Ok, last guess: Sonia Rykiel in the shirt bottle?!?
Well done Elisa P !
Sonia Rykiel (1997), smells like Pineapple Angel on my skin !! YMMV????????????????????????✨
Yay! I’m seriously exhausted now ????????????
Will reveal tomorrow if on one correctly identifies. ????
I’m wearing a scent from a fragrance line that takes its inspiration from India. My SOTD is the one that is suited to quiet introspection and it’s a bit of a changeling on skin, smoky on some days and sweet on others.
Neela Vermeire Pichola…?
Right line wrong fragrance
Trayee?
Yesss!
My SOTD is supposed to suggest a lively neighborhood in New York City, all cheap and cheerful in pink and white. My price tag is NOT so cheap.Lol.Luca Turin gave me 5 stars once.
Plus happy Left handed day to me!????????????????

Whoop whoop✌????
Bond no. 9 Chinatown?
I second that.
Correcto!!????????????????
Bond No 9 Chinatown ????????????????
Cheers Johano!
????????
Hehe!My clues made it wayyyyy too easy!!Gonna have to get a bit more clever for the next one!Lol!
Hi ????!✌????????????
How funny! I was just talking with someone this past weekend about Bond perfumes, and here you go wearing one!
THE ONE from Bond for me.New Haarlem being the other favorite!
Last Winter Costco was selling some of the Bonds for so cheap (comparatively of course)
Hi All! Late to this:
1) SOTD: Molinard Jasmine over the last of my Korres Jasmin shower gel. Perfect.
2) Don’t know if Robin knew or mentioned this earlier but: Rose Jam is now permanent at Lush! This is awesome news!
Yes it is!
I am in what I call my modern day Apres l’ Ondee.
Balenciaga Paris or Desmarant ?
L’Eau d’Hiver?
Yes!????
I guessed because of The Guide, LT compares the two. Anyway, you smell gorgeous.
Do tell !
Another crazy, busy week, but I will try my best not to complain.
I am in Miu Miu, my last sample/decant “THUNK” of the summer season, since I do not think I can drain one of my full bottles soon. I splashed the 3ml left in my decant. I think it is a nice perfume, but not full bottle worth. To my big surprise, I have received so many compliments today, more than with any other perfume worn before. Shocked! It is that good? Maybe a full bottle in the future? If that ever happens, which I really doubt, it will not be any time soon.
Since June 25th, when I “join” the Use it Up project I have drained 38 summer decants/samples. I will not write a details list here of what I finished, because my comment will be too long and I do not have time now. I feel so good to have finished and enjoyed or disliked all of them greatly. Some made it to my full bottle “to buy list”. I am happy that by wearing them I also saved money on blind buys. I am very thankful with the generosity of NSTers, who always send me samples, decants, even partial or full bottles. You always give me an opportunity to explore more, enjoy more and make the right decision about future purchases. Now, I will give some love to my full bottles until the Fall/Winter season, when I will continue using more samples/decants. The amount is really huge, since I have more cold weather scents than spring/summer ones.
Samples and decants will keep coming and I am always delighted to have them. I reduced a decent amount for now, which is giving more room to more beauties later on. And I like the fact that the more I sample, the more I realize that I do not need that much anymore. The journey continues in a more selective way!. Johanob and CM8 you have been a great inspiration. Let’s keep going!
See? Just what I said…You are the THUNK QUEEN 😉
So glad you enjoyed thunking your way through your summer samples/decants and that it ended up being a learning experience for you.
what you said about realizing that you don’t need that much anymore after all your sampling really resonated with me…I am feeling a bit of that myself these days and less and less like I am missing out on stuff.
Let’s keep going!!! THUNK ON 🙂 And enjoy your full bottles now!!!
Still counting on your encouragement again, by next month when temps start going down. Are you going to keep thunking or plan to take a break?
Nope I will keep thunking away!
I love buying perfume, but I can’t use it up as fast as I want to buy it and I can’t afford a lot of the stuff I want with the prices escalating constantly anyway. But I have so many lovely bottles to wear that I don’t feel as desperate a need for new ones as I used to. I am aiming for high selectivity and very minimal purchasing.
I agree with you. We already have a great collection and I have found that perfumes released many years ago are more beautiful and enjoyable that the earliest ones. I do not mean that there are not good recent releases, but these days they are more difficult to find. Nothing really outstanding lately. As you said, high selectivity has become a priority and that is the way to keep our collections under control!
Nice job on “THUNKING” your summer samples! Now some of your summer bottles can get their time in the limelight. It sounds like you have really enjoyed thinning the herd, so to speak. ????
I really enjoyed it! I comfirmed that Bombay Bling is still a favorite and still very high in my full bottle “to buy list”, among others. Let’s see what the samples for next season will bring. Hopefully, not many lemmings! ????
38, wow! Good job! It’s more satisfying sometimes to find out you don’t like a sample. It helps you realize that you don’t need every hyped perfume, and establish what you truly like. Can’t wait to see whats on your use it up fb list.
It is very relieving when many of the perfumes you sample you do not find interesting enough to join your collection. Money saved, which is much more needed for some other things! Right now, I do not have a Use it Up full bottle list, since all of my bottles are more than half full. It is going to take long time to bring one close to and end, but the goal is to spray lavishly to see them going down.
You are our THUNK QUEEN!!Glad to inspire and be part of it!
Hope you have a good week M!
I’m in a Thunk-mode myself…SOTE Tuca-Tuca….again with the little black ho.e of a neverending Lush bottle!!Hehe!
❤️❤️
Black hole BLACK HOLE @#$& Ipad!!!????????♂️????????♂️????????????
????????????????
I liked the ho.e…..gave me a good laugh this morning 🙂
Keep going! You will finish that Lush sooner than later! That is my fear with full bottles, that the more you spray, the more they resist to go! ????????
I can’t help it ????????
You are the Thunking Queen
Smelling sweet
Or maybe not so
Thunking Queen
Hear the THUNK from the garbage can, OH YEAH
You can spray
You can splash
Having the time of your life
Vials empty
Atomizers too
Crowning you the Thunking Queen
Dancing/Thunking Queen a la Hajusuuri!!!! Terrific and hilarious! ???????????? Thank you! I am saving this for my perfumista’s records! You really made my day!!!
😉
Ok, guessing game! I’m wearing a perfume that made Robin’s list of 5 vanilla perfumes for summer and it’s a reliable niche brand that’s been around since the 60s.
Diptyque Eau Duelle ?
I second that
You’re both correct! This perfume is so easy going and perfect for a Monday.
I knew I shared a birthday with several others but had forgotten about having the same birthday as Alfred Hitchcock. Thanks for the reminder. I wore Dusita Lopita today. However, I just received by packets of samples from Dawn Spencer Horowitz (DSH) and even though I have only smelled a few, the two I smelled are amazing. It’s going to be difficult to decide on “one” bottle.
Buon Compleanno, Filomena !
????????????
Happy birthday Filomena! ????????????????
Birthday ???? Wishes
have a wonderful day! So nice the new samples are there to help you celebrate. DSH is on my list of must-sample fragrance lines.
Good morning everyone! I’m not up inventing puzzles this early in the day, but look forward to reading all your clever ideas later today. Meanwhile, I did see Austenfan’s reference to Trayee as I scrolled quickly down, so that is my inspiration for the day.
And this ended up in the wrong g place!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your sniffs!
Happy Scented Birthday, Filomena! ????????????????
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to you!!❤️❤️
Happy birthday, Filomena! Have fun with your new samples!
Happy birthday! Enjoy the samples!
Happy Birthday, Filomena!
Wearing Orange Sanguine. It would be nice to finish off the rest of this little bottle, but so far it is vigorously resisting!
Orange Sanguine is a great summer scent, though. ????
You smell great. Orange Sanguine’s citrus note made it one of my very first niche perfume loves.
Crazy weather here today! The traffic reports for the morning rush were nuts with all the road closures due to flooding. I’d bet that tonight won’t be much better. 🙁 And tomorrow has “Flooding Downpours” in its forecast! YUCK! ????????????
SOTD = back in Cristalle EdT, from the sample stash. I need something that will stand up to the massive amounts of moisture in the atmosphere. Cristalle does that without even breaking a sweat.
I can’t believe all the rain you are getting, and I am not getting. I can only imagine that it means less snow for you and more for me this winter. Please stay safe!
The East Coast has been clobbered this summer! Most of the truly nasty stuff has been a couple of hours away from me. so I am fortunate in that.
This summer has been sooo wet! It’s bumming me out. Be careful out there!
You are right in the middle of all the SQUISHY with me, aren’t you? No worries… I’m on high ground, and so far, there haven’t been any road closures near me. There are a couple of low spots that I know to avoid in weather like this.
Yes, squishy twins! ????
You’re smelling great Jalapeno! Stay safe. It rained hard for hours here today but at least it wasn’t hot. I can deal with cool humidity much more than hot.
Thanks, Petunia! I am envying you the cool humidity. It was around 80F here today, but it felt a LOT warmer than that. Supposed to get a break later on this week, and possibly a dry weekend, too.
We had that type of weather yesterday.. I was in my yard with playing with my FIL’s German Shepherd and it was sweltering.
This brand, which waxes nostalgic for an old manufacturer, has been rekindled and rests in the niche market.
This perfume, whose Latin name means “mist”, is about as fleeting as an early morning fog.
It’s not something from Le Jardin Retrouve, is it?
No, and I haven’t tried any from that line. Yet.
From your description of the brand I thought it might be an Oriza L Legrand, but they have nothing that matches mist in Latin.
You have me stumped, will you reveal all tomorrow?
The words used to describe the brand are part of the clue to the “house”. But, yes, I’ll post tomorrow if no one gets it. I posted late today.
Are you wearing Bruma by Cire Truden?
Yay!! You got it????
Excellent clues… It was your use of the word waxy that pointed me in the right direction. ????
I see, bruma is an Italian word though not Latin. Latin would have been nebula. And yes I looked up all the equivalents of mist in Latin, still a good clue though,
I am wearing SL Fleurs D’Oranger and it is holding up well in the heat today.j
Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail. Grapefruit, bergamot, Frangpiani, amber, musk, driftwood. I admit to buying it blind for the bottle- works in the summer with that tropical vibe.
Monday. All day today and possibly tomorroe too. Someone at worked ticked me off royally. While we are part of the same larger team, I don’t have any projects for which I need to work with her. She will get what’s due her st some point.
SOTD = Would you like some caramel sauce with your caramel-filled caramel?
Actually, its name is appropriate but I wanted to depict the sweet on sweet characteristic of this 7 year old perfume. Probably targeted to the young uns, even old fogies like me enjoy wearing it. Who would have thought that tooth-achingly sweet can be sooo good? There had been many flankers since its launch but my loyalty lies with the first fragrance. What am I wearing?*
Ewww at work: our floor was teeming with consultants today and they will be here for the next few days. One of them went to the ladies room, peed a whole gallon in maybe 10 seconds and she either did not wash her hands or, if she did, barely wet her fingers and left the restroom. Yuck!
i’ll save the commuting woe and advice column for later this week.
*If you need another clue, it’s the brand I associate with our dear Lucas.
Is the house Hiram Greene?
I had to switch to my iPad as my phone was nearly out of juice. I am sorry to read about about the difficulty with your coworker and extra consultants with poor hygiene habits. I hope tomorrow is a better day.
Thank you, Petunia. I shouldn’t let it bother me but really, when the story keeps changing as to why she did x (not harmful to anyone but a blatant disregard for rules), she needs to be called out.
Hajusuuri, you are wearing Prada Candy today, aren’t you?
And “Eeeeew, ICK!” on those bathroom antics!
I think you nailed it. Hiram Greene is too new to fit the clues.
She did ????
I think you got it, too. Prada=Lucas
Yes!
You got it, jalapeño!
But urine is sterile, right? ????
I won’t google that ????
Joke:
2 buddies are standing at urinals doing their business, finish.
One heads out the door, the other at the sink washing his hands calls out, “Yo! My father taught me as a boy to always wash my hands after I p—.”
Buddy, “My father taught me not to p— on my hands !! ????????????
Funny but still a gross habit.
I wash my hands but you’d be surprised how many men don’t.
And then, the doors pull IN, instead of push OUT.
Oy.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll try to avoid handshakes in the future. ????
Wearing many sprays of Chanel No 19 EDT tonight. I needed a change from the from the summer scents and have I ever missed this beauty!
Gearing up for a 5 day week after so many short weeks; I may need this all week long! I’m so far behind, I think I’m first, as one of my co-worker friends says.
5 day work weeks stink. My work friend and used to joke that we want to work three day weeks from 9 – 2 with an hour for lunch.
Smelling great in No 19. Funny I wear it all summer long. I find it to be very versatile in that way.
Thank you, I’m really enjoying this tonight! It’s supposed to warm up again later this week, so I will have to try again.
I agree on short week, with full pay and benefits of course!
The only better thing would be our work group winning the lottery; we joke that no one is more deserving than us as we’ve been buying tickets for years, our numbers have to come up soon! And our Supervisor and Manager aren’t in with us so they would be the only ones left to figure everything out.
