Happy Almost-Friday and happy Tau Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: a morning dab of Tauer Perfumes Sotto La Luna Tuberose.
Reminder: 6/29 will be Opposite Day...wear the opposite of what would be expected. Suggested by Pyramus, who provided a bunch of examples: La Nuit on a bright sunshiny day, Matin Calin in the afternoon, Voile d’Ete in the depth of winter or Winter Delice in the middle of July, Aromatics In White when you’re dressed all in black.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

NU
You crack me up! Lol, I have not smelled Nu since it’s release, is yours the current version? Also wanted to tell you, I saw that Sephora is carrying Phlur online now.
I am assuming it is the original…it’s the EDT in that gorgeous cylindrical cerulean blue bottle…at the rate that I am going I will probably finish it tomorrow 🙂
Sephora seems to be carrying a lot more new and upcoming niche brands….might take a peek 🙂
I consider this one to be “MY” bottle because no one else in the house has laid claim to it or wants to share it with me…which means I don’t have any qualms about finishing it if I love to wear it and I want to wear it until it is done…the lines are blurred in my house with regard to bottles because they are literally all over the place with everyone willing to share but some bottles more loved by some than others…I thought about this last night and I would say that full bottles that are “exclusively” mine are probably only around 8 or so? My goal this summer is to wear just those…my next project when NU is done is to stick with one fragrance for a month….I think it might be Jardin Clos as it really is such a beautiful summer scent…..I will just have to figure out how to tie it into the CP for the next four weeks 🙂
Sounds like a great plan. 🙂
Thanks, cazaubon! I have had and continue to have so much enjoyment from my surprise full bottles 🙂
😀
LOL!
Hellooo
Haven’t seen you in ages????
Hi there!! I was thinking about you the other day… missing the APJ gang… hope all’s well!!!
You smell lovely!

Nu is going to end up on my sample list after this glowing endorsement.
I hope you like it!
Poeme Lancome

A bear sighting! Welcome back, we missed you!
Welcome back! Throw us at least one emoji ????????????????!
Hola! Good to see you Bear! Hope that things have been going well for you.
Welcome back! You’ve been greatly missed. 🙂
Clever choice, Robin!
For the project, I am wearing SL Daim Blond (White Suede), and I am not wearing suede. 🙂 (Clothes of the day: cotton mini dress and shorts, PU flip flops. My typical summer outfit for wearing at home.)
You smell great! I almost wore this last night but couldn’t find my sample quick enough.
Thank you! Keep that sample near. 🙂
Well thank you, because I thought it was sort of lame! This project is harder than I thought it would be, nothing comes to me at all.
Yeah, this one is tough for me too.
Beige, and I am not wearing any clothing with Beige in it. But I do smell good!
Reading the WSJ, listening to the oud, and sipping tea
You don’t smell good, you smell great! I love Beige.
Ah, thank you!
This is the EDP
I have the EDT. What differences do you notice between the 2?
I have a sample of the EDP and its nice, to my nose its similar to the EDT and I use to own the EDT.
How was your move?
It went relatively well – now to get the old place cleaned and unpack the zillion of boxes in my dining room.
I have all of my perfume yet to unearth and organize
I have both and they smell exactly the same (though I haven’t worn side-by-side) but the edp is stronger – better projection; lasts longer.
Good luck with the perfume unearthing and unpacking!
Idyllwild
(From a sample)
Opposites:
This smells outdoorsy, sadly I am indoors almost the whole day (very very long meeting today….).
Hope the meeting is bearable!
Good morning all!
I fell like every day is Opposite Day for me since I’m always wearing a woman’s perfume, rather than a man’s. I’m wearing Donna Karan, the original in a swan bottle, which I found yesterday. Pretty good, though I’m not really sure what the fuss is about. Now Black Cashmere, I understand that one….
Ha, true, so maybe tomorrow I will just wear Guerlain Homme.
Hey, I was gonna do that, only with Dior Homme! 🙂
I’m planning to wear a gender-bending perfume tomorrow too.
Osmanthe Yunnan today 🙂
Ooh, I like that one – you smell great.
Sisley Eau de 2, and drinking a cup of peppermint tea 🙂
I am just starting on my roasted dandelion tea.
Wow, that does not sound delicious 😉 I take it it’s some kind of caffeine alternative?
Yes, but I drink caffeine too, tea and coffee! I just like the taste. It’s very bitter and dark, lots of people hate it.
New guide new guide new guide!!!!! On Kindle today, in paperback in a few, per Turin’s Twitter. I’m trying not to make it too obvious that I am taking sneak breaks from work to read on my phone.
Also, I am wearing Eau du Sud, because I live in Minnesota.
Oh! Thanks for letting us know!
Hm, he wrote that it was released on Kobo too, but I can only see the 2010 version I already have.
Ah, ok, found it via a link in the comments on Twitter. It’s pre-order only at the moment, that’s why I could not find it in Kobo desktop client.
OMG! Thank you for this psa, just downloaded onto my iPad kindle.????
Getting a little teary over Ari’s delight in the great 4-star review for Arielle Shoshana
I know… made me finally order a couple of samples from her. Looking forward to getting them.
Zoologist just posted on Facebook how proud they are to have received three four-star reviews!–for Bat, Rhinoceros, and Nightingale. An unusual collection to get high praise, but I’m happy for them.
I am halfway through the As and already have 4 things to sample. I wonder if TPC/StC’s sample sales go way up when these things are published.
Wow! So excited! I was just wondering when it would be released. Is it all new or are there some carry-overs from the old guide?
ALL new. 🙂 Many brands I’ve never heard of before, plus some indies and niche lines that weren’t reviewed before.
I’m in another cologne, 4711 AC Rhubarb & Clary Sage. I wanted to stay away from citrus today.
I keep wishing I’d come across a counter with testers of all the 4711 series…
There are several that sound so interesting, but apparently aren’t available in the US.
If I ever make it to Germany I will spend a day visiting the 4711 museum/store in Cologne, and the Nivea store in Hamburg or Berlin. I want that Nivea perfume! 😉
Please stash my tiny body in your suitcase so that I can go with you….I would love to go to both of those places! I want to try everything in the 4711 store and would also love that Nivea perfume as well.
I think Merz Apothecary in Chicago has some of them
Yay for 4711! That’s a wonderful opposite choice, an anti-citrus cologne.
I love the picture Robin! So beautiful!
I am in Clean Reserve Blonde Rose. I sprayed the whole 3ml sample on me to finish it. MISTAKE! The only thing I get is cigarette ashes. Very masculine and strong. No roses, no sandalwood, no musk and some cedarwood. I will not scrub it off. It is bothering me greatly and therefore keeping me awake, so I will see that as an advantage on a very busy day ????.
Wow, that’s a way to turn a negative into a positive! I hope it doesn’t have amazing longevity.
The opposite of what I was expecting! 😀 It lasted good 4 hours. It is gone by now, but I survived the morning! I think I should spray on something annoying to keep myself awake on those the days when I am tired, sleepy, bored, etc…. It really worked today. 😀
Lol at the positive spin! Clean gives alot of promises with thier names, but they don’t work for me. I tried the saffron one and all I got was white musk, and a headache.
I have tried a couple of them and they have all been “meh” on me. Boring and forgettable.
The few Clean scents I have tried were all “Bleah!” on me, so you are doing a little better than I am.
That is the risk you take when you are trying to finish samples you have never used before. Fortunately, I do not have more Clean Scents in the sample stash!
Isn’t that pretty? I totally missed the full moon.
I did too. They said on the news last night that this was the Strawberry Moon–a time for Native Americans to pick wild strawberries.
Right, but NASA says no, the strawberry moon was last month, this is some other moon — I just saw that this morning! So, more controversy!
I didn’t even know it was full moon last night…. 🙁
I didn’t either 🙁 And I think I fell asleep before it was dark anyway…
Yeah, it was overcast where I am last night. Not much in the way of stargazing happening lately.
VC&A California Reverie today (West Coast) while I’m in Virginia (East Coast).
Good one.
????????
Robin,
I love the Sotto Gardenia, but the Sotto Tuberose isa red hot chemical mess on me!! So glad you enjoy it.
I am wearing Caron’s Violette Precieuse. The raspberry, iris, and violet create the smell of the entire violet plant, stems and all, on my skin.
Ha, and the Violette is one of my first huge unsniffed mistakes so we must be evil twins!
So, we should swap bad blind buys as a matter of course 🙂
I will certainly keep that in mind, LOL…
+1 for the Sotto Gardenia!
I know!! And you almost never hear about this one
+2, yet I rarely wear it. Must remedy..
I love Tuberose and hate the gardenia, scent evil twins. 🙂
I totally agree. Tuberose was great, the gardenia was a big hot evil mess on me… so I sent my decant to Coumarin, where it would be appreciated.
It’s pouring rain, and I’m not wearing Vanille 44! Ha ha, participating in opposite day by wearing Diorissimo. In my mind, it is not at all a rainy-day scent. But it’s working today.
Good call, it is not a rain scent in my mind either.
I’m wearing Hiris today. No tie-in to Opposite Day, I just really wanted to wear it.
Have a safe and happy day!
And you do smell great.
+1 for Hiris, always a great choice! 😀
I like the moon photo today, Robin!
If I had known it was TAU Day, I would’ve worn one of my TAUer perfumes.
Instead, I’m back in Chanel No. 19 EDT. I keep reading descriptions of No. 19 as “bracing” and “spine-stiffening” but it’s really quite soft on me. Maybe because I spray lightly?
Ha! Good one on the TAUer!
I don’t get bracing or spine-stiffening from No 19 either. To me it’s ultra feminine, and a very “perfumey” perfume (if that makes sense.) I wear the edt and edc. The edp falls more along “spine-straightening” to me, but that’s still not how I’d categorize it. The edt and edc wear very lightly on me, (moreso the edt) and I spray very liberally.
I totally get what you mean by “perfumey.” Many of the Chanels strike me that way. Maybe because they’re so classic that I think of them as *the* prototypical perfumes? Or maybe it’s all the cosmetic/soapy-smelling iris and aldehydes Chanel uses?
Yes! Prototypical “perfume” is exactly the word I’ve been searching for. I’ve chalked it up to their being abstract rather than referencing something recognizable. I know No 5 is often referred to as being the first “abstract” perfume, but I find 19 even more so. 22 probably falls into that category as well.
For me, No.19 EDP is the bracing one.
Sotd is Alien eau Sublime. It fits the weather which is hot and sunny, so not very opposite today. I will be going through my old maternity and kids baby clothes today to donate. I plan on keeping only one baby outfit a piece.
You are so good with your cleaning house! I got rid of my maternity stuff years ago but have still kept three separate large tubs of each individual mini Marzipan’s baby clothes as well as one bucket of matching outfits. Once they have flown the coop they are getting their baby clothes and they can decide what they want to do with them.
Ha! I’m not that good. I found paystubs from 1998 LOL!
Ha 😉
My mother did that to me. But she gave them to me this year, at the age of 52. WHY? I would rather she have given them years ago to my SIL so my nieces could have worn them. All I could do with them was drop off at charity shop.
LOL ????. Yes she should have given them to you sooner!
Ohhh, I adore Alien, you smellll gorgeous!
Good plan. I saved the outfit each of my kids wore home from the hospital, as well as their first pair of stride rite’s.
Brace yourself for tomorrow, it’s supposed to be a hot one!
Oh I know, tomorrow and Saturday are gonna be sweltering. My forever motto, “at least it’s not snowing “
I have to keep changing my expectations about the heat wave. I can’t help but think, “finally! hot weather” since I’ve actually been cool, if not downright cold, and wearing sweaters since I arrived in Cleveland. But I’m pretty sure this’ll be the last time I look forward to 90+ weather 😉
I should add that I’ve spent nearly all my time here sitting on covered porches, i.e., in the shade. It’s actually too cold inside for me since the place we’re staying has the AC blasting and I’d need full-on winter gear to withstand it. The brief sunbreaks have come as a relief. And my skin seems to love the humidity… so far.
Happy to hear the humidity is agreeing with someone – my hair sure hates it 😛
Ha! I have hardly any hair to speak of anymore since I chopped it into a pixie so I wouldn’t know 😉
The heat waves don’t last long.
Spring cleaning update: I took a bunch of stuff to the donation center, with my most prized boots sitting on top. The donation guy says wow, those are cool. I about reached back in and grabbed them. It was so hard, but I just gave him instructions to only sell them to someone nice. Lol, yeah… right.
Good for you lillyjo!!!! I am sure those boots will make someone very very happy 🙂
If it helps, here’s my donation story: I recently gave my first pair of Frye boots (Campus – the classics) to the Goodwill. I’d meant to keep them as some kind of keepsake (I never wore them much because they didn’t fit particularly well), or at the very least sell them on consignment. But I decided I can’t traipse across the country lugging boxes of nostalgic items, and I had no time to resell.
So I’m happy they’ll end up in someone else’s hands who will hopefully be thrilled to find them.
I had one pair, very distictive with embroidery, even though my feet could never wear them again, I hope I don’t see them on someone else. Honestly it would be emotionally easier for me to just throw everything in a dumbster blindly. It’s the reminiscing part that takes so long.
I think my mom STILL has a bunch of outgrown children’s clothes from back in the day.
Go, you, lillyjo! Thanks for setting the example, I have a few boxes on a high shelf in the garage that gotta go!
My daughter will be a high school senior, yet I still have baby toys. A few clothes and toys are already set aside as keepers, so I’m determined to clear things out before the hot weather sets in and that becomes my excuse for another year.
Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit.Warm and comforting on a cold overcast day!
Happy Thursday!
Nice to see Bear appear!!
X
love Ginger Biscuit…you smell delicious 🙂
Thanks!Methinks I smell pretty good for sure!
Would go lovely with my SOTD!
Wearing it layered with hyssop and rice milk lotion from a local brand. So good.
Ooh, yum!
Wearing that last of my Ambre 114 sample today – amber is not generally my thing in the heat, so it’s a nod to Opposite day. I don’t like this quite as well as Ambre Sultan but it’s very nice. It’s also the third sample I’ve finished off this week – I’m coming for you, sample pile.
Also, I’ve been meaning to suggest a theme: wear a perfume with a terrible bottle. I love Mugler Cologne but I HATE the (100ml) bottle. It looks okay, but it’s awkward to hold and the spray is too strong and leaves me with a dripping arm.
Fugly Friday…8/18/17
Argh – I think this is my third suggestion and they’ve ALL already been done 🙂
Sorry! If it makes you feel any better I do the same thing… I have made several suggestions that have also already been done!
Oh I missed that one I think!
Awkward pefume bottles always make go, “Huh? Why?!”
You smell great, tho.
Calling Hermes Galop…
The bottle is so gorgeous (one of the reasons I wanted an FB, but I’d never seen or held it in person) and yet so very difficult to simultaneously hold and spray!
I’ll also give a shout-out to Bvlgari Black – another cool bottle that’s ridiculously hard to spray. Good thing it’s rubber since I’m pretty sure I’ve dropped mine.
I have the same problem with Black – I use both hands to spritz my neck, then awkwardly hope for the best when I aim for my arms . . .
The same is true of Aura in the green bottle, which I just bought. Hard to see where to spray it and hard to spray just a little bit. It’s so overpowering, you really don’t want to overdo it.
I just looked up this bottle – it’s very pretty but I see how it would be unwieldy. Maybe the strong spray is a Mugler thing? It matters less with a light cologne, but I still find it annoying.
It’s hot in Denver and I’m wearing L’Eau Mixte, which is not unexpected at all, so I guess I’m doing the opposite of what the poll would suggest!
Great choice!
SOTD: Jo Malone’s Honey & Crocus
Sweet, but not too sweet, almond goodness.
I’m staring at my colleague’s new mug which says, and which I love and keeping smiling over: My pet doesn’t shed. It emits magical fibers of joy & love.
🙂
…Looks at my long haired cat and thinks of this quote..
Oh!Almonds!I’ll have to go sniff!✌????
Hah! Great mug. I’ll try to remember that next time the magical fibers waft up from my coverlet….
My dog sheds a lot. I will keep that in mind every time I am doing cleaning… 🙁 🙂
The directions for my pre-op preparation were clear: take a shower the night before and morning of using special orange soap they gave me; sleep on a clean bed with clean sheets; no pets on the bed. Yikes! I’ll never sleep without my kitties close by. I wonder if they’d allow it if I told them this about pet hairs?
Umm, probably not. ????
Awww. That’s an awesome mug!
I will need to remember about magical kitty fibers the next time I have to vacuum the stairs! ????
SOTD this morning was Dyptique Vetiverio over a sample of Molton Brown’s Grapefruit and Vetiver shower gel. This shower gel is lovely with a citrus hit and a lot more floral that I was expecting. (I can see a full bottle in the future) The scent lasts all day, albeit very close to the skin. This evening, same shower gel with a large spritz of vintage Eau Sauvage. The top notes are very fleeting (as expected) but the middle and dry down …….♥️
Wow, this sounds like a fantastic combination!
Mmmmm, Eau Sauvage. The vintage must be amazing!
Chergui, which most people seem to want to wear in winter but I actually prefer to wear it when it’s hot outside.
Tea is Thé des Moines by Palais des Thés.
I like orientals in the heat 🙂
Ditto, that and BWF’s, they bloom in the heat!
Love BWFs in heat… but not orientals. (insert nausea emoji here)
But then, it’s a rare oriental that I like anyway.
You smell great! I need to try it in the warm weather.
I’d never have thought that. Now I must try it. Might borrow your idea for tomorrow.
I also prefer ambers in warm weather. First time I tried Ambre Sultan it was HOT, and I had never smelled anything like it before. I was properly smitten.
Chergui works any damn day.
California Rêverie!! I adore this perfume. It says summer is here. Yippee!
It is certainly here! Enjoy your reverie.
I was thinking about Tempo last night so I dug out Eau Mage and Benjoin Bohème this morning to revisit.
Both are good as I remembered. I may prefer the Mage but I do not need to seek more of either.
Summer is here yet I am craving spice…discuss amongst yourselves… ????
And drinking Harney & Sons Royal Palace tea.
MMMMM…….
I tend to crave my brighter scents in the winter, I think it’s some subliminal way of adding sunshine.
Me too. I find myself craving those sunscreeny, coconutty, orange blossomy scents way more frequently in the winter than the summer.
I tend to crave them in spring whilst dreaming that summer is right around the corner.
Spice is always good.
Loewe 001 Woman. Anybody noticed that the new LT+TS guide is out?
Yes! I’ve been reading it this morning. I love his sense of humor.????
yes so funny, just read the review of Les Indes Galantes ????
Pre-ordered on Kobo! Can’t wait to see what they write!
I got the kindle yesterday and read all night…lots to discover and to laugh, some stuff missing but what a huge effort!
Amouage Sunshine Woman on a cloudy, cool day. I think this one is quite nice and seems to protect at office friendly levels. That’s rare for an Amouage!
Project not protect
Ha – but I like the idea of office protection!
Hehehe
Lea. I’m almost out and I’ll be sad when this one is gone.
Mmm, you smell wonderful! One of my top scents for sure. It is so sad it was discontinued.
Wearing Vanilla Smoke for no particular reason that I can think of…
I, too, love that photo. I sat outside last night for a long while, enjoying the the moon and the fireflies.
Fears Mice,
I have always wanted this one, I don’t know why I just don’t buy it.
SOTD Shanghai Lily
I do hope you’ll get it.
Your sotd is lovely.
Lucky you, seeing the moon and fireflies last night! They don’t show up in my neighborhood anymore.
We have light pollution here, too 🙁 Would have been great to be out in the country last evening.
I think a big part of why there haven’t been any fireflies has to do with a bad winter we had a couple of years back. A lot of trees in the neighborhood were damaged and had to come down.
Ha! Vanilla Smoke was a contender this week and I may still do it. Somehow I don’t associate vanilla and smoke but Vanilla Smoke has the right balance of each and it works very well indeed.
Wearing La Fille de Berlin and waiting for my bottle of Incense Flash to come in the mail. I wonder what samples Luckyscent is sending me with it.
Did the break issues get resolved yet?
Somewhat but still working on it.
I always request specific samples in the comments section…
Elite Saab L’Eau Couture. Not really opposite of anything, unless I think of it as a fresh, clean scent that is quite the opposite of my apartment, which desperately needs a thorough vacuuming – filled with the pets’ magical fibers and city grime…
Amused by my husband’s barking at the WC announcers. He just finds American coverage so irritating much of the time. (He’s like this with pretty much all sports, so I chose a long time ago to find it entertaining…)
My dad also likes to yell at the TV during sports, particularly during Badger basketball or football. His yellow lab (sadly, no longer with us) used to literally bark at him when he would be yelling at the TV and it was all quite comical to watch.
LOL. All my family yells at the TV during sports, especially soccer. So far my dog has not barked at us, but it might happen at any time 😀 😀 😀
When I was a teen, my Mom would often find the TV Guide under the television…because I would throw it at the TV during football games.
1) SOTD Philosykos- although it is the opposite of the mil.d summer day we had yesterday- it is cool and cloudy this morning.
2) RIGHT when I roll into work there is a last minute meeting (“didn’t you get the invite?” No, I did not! You sent it when I was off work! “Oh”) that I really did NOT have to attend, the GUID script that I fixed was rejected for an error by back office; ONLY to find out that the damn error was ON THEIR END (and with no one taking responsibility for it, of course) AND I DID NOT HAVE MY COFFEE.
I have put myself in unavailable for the rest of the day, and have locked my office door.
Hopefully you have locked yourself in WITH coffee.????
I have in fact!
Well, that’s a good thing. I’m reading this later in the day and thinking, Gosh, hope she got her coffee…
Yes, thank goodness! I was able to bribe the department assistant into making a coffee and bagel run.
Time out! You deserve it.
Self imposed! 🙂
Hope your day has a better end. Keep yourself locked!. I know what that is very often…
It’s looks like the day may end in a bath and a smoothie with a generous dose of high THC oil in it. Oy Vey!
My rule – if I did not get the meeting invitation by the morning the day before, there is no guarantee I will see the invitation for the following morning.
Today, I received an invitation for a 1:30AM (not a typo) Eastern meeting on July 5th. Nope, not doing it. I ripped into the group that could not assign the right people to address the issue — I told them the problem, I told them what to fix and they just have to DO IT, instead, they kept punting to another group and that group asked the same questions we already answered several times and I finally said stop – no more emails, no more asking questions. I set up a meeting for Monday 8-9AM and told my main contact to invite the right people. If the problem is not fixed in 2 weeks, we will hold off on making OUR changes when it comes time to execute our portion of a BIG project and they will need to come up with a workaround to get to address any unintended consequences.
I almost refused the meeting but because it included test scripts I written WEEKS BEFORE and included a process manual I wrote a month ago with video recordings I felt compelled to attend. As it turned out, the group was able to follow my instruction and hey look NO ERRORS MA WHEN FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.
Bruno Fazzolari Monsserat today. I smell like an apricot-grapefruit scratch-and-sniff sticker.
you say that like it’s a bad thing! 🙂
Well, I guess it qualifies as nostalgic.
I’ll be glad to wash it off after the gym this morning.
Haha! I can kind of see that. I do love that one, though.
chanel 22 again, smoke em if you got em!
Lovely choice!
Assam of India again.
That moon was really beautiful last night.
Assam of India deserves to be played on repeat.
You smell fab!
Thanks tiffanie! This may very well turn out to be my SotS’18.????
Hee hee..it was that for me in 2016
My sotd is Noir de Noir and wearing a flowy white blouse.
I gotta get through this day. Work, taking my mom for a medical test she has to be anesthsized for, then back to work. Plus because of fun hormones, I am vacillating between wanting to cry uncontrollably or inflict bodily harm on co-workers. ????
I like your black-white pairing. Good luck to Mom and to you today.
Aye yi yi, the hormones, they are not my friend some days. Where I used to work that urge is called “feeling stabby”. So far I’ve always managed to resist. 😉
Hang in there, Friday’s coming.
“Feeling stabby” is the perfect way to put it lol
I like that too!
Oh no! What a day! Hormones, sometimes an ugh, and sometimes a yay! Good luck to your mom. You are smelling absolutely beautiful!
Sending good thoughts to your mom today KellyC! I’m glad you can be with her, and I bet she is too!
Positive vibes for both you and your mom.
Thanks for the good vibes, everyone. Mom is back at home and resting just fine and I am back at work. I have not cried yet nor assaulted anyone, so it’s been a successful day thus far lol.
Thanks for the update! Glad to hear that your mom is doing well. Hang in there, the “bite-y times” don’t last!
Good to know that you and your mom have made it through the day!
unfortunately, I can relate. Manopause is no fun. I’ve tried reducing the sugar and moderating caffeine intake and that seems to help.
There are times when I’m one step above a caged animal, not safe to be around me without tossing in a raw steak first! 🙂
SotD = Sotto la Luna Tuberose
Gosh, I love tuberose. I happily give credit to Oscar by Oscar de la Renta. If money were no object I’d bathe in Sotto la Luna Tuberose and Masque’s Luci ed Ombre. I’d be like the Giorgio-wearing women of the past, perfuming up the place real good everywhere I go.
Nyquil-me from last month ordered a handful of samples and did a good job. Les annees 25, PHI, and this Sotto were highlights.
Thank you to Robin for choosing a great scent for today. My brain hasn’t the room to make a choice at the moment. And thank you to holyneroli for the TAUer connection. That made me feel clever without any effort on my part. 😀
Nyquil you is pretty fun! I love tuberose too, I just didn’t know it until I came here ????
haha, yes, I blame Nyquil for a few online orders I have yet to come to terms with, but I’m not unhappy about it so far.
Same on tuberose, it was a very happy day when the perfumed light bulb went off in my head.
It’s taken me a long time to recognize tuberose. Oscar de la Renta and Poison are old favorites that I never thought of as florals, much less tuberose-driven. Now when I wear Poison I can’t not smell it, where I used to just smell red and purples berries.
Also, it is meant to be said as “tuber rose” or “tube rose?” I’ve always said the former.
When Poison was new all I could smell was the purple! Due in part I’m sure to the liberal spritzing that was the usual thing then.
I vote for the former pronunciation on tuberose. It’s kind of a three syllable thing for me, but I don’t know if that’s right.
I remember reading someone’s comment (not here on NST) about tuberose. They referred to it as “tubey ho”; still 3 syllables. I love both Poison and Oscar.
I am with you, though I can’t cite any authority on this. Have you ever had a bouquet of them? Pretty potent!
Hey twin!
hey, we smell great today! 😀
Wearing Bois des Iles edt as it never fails. I’m sure I’m not alone in that I have many loves that I’ve nevertheless sprayed and regretted (not the right mood; not right for the weather, etc.) But there are a few in my collection that always smell good and are always right, any time of year: BdI, Shalimar, Gourmand Coquin. I’m sure we’ve done that as a community project already?
In opposite land, here’s my contribution: I’ve spent the last few days obsessively shopping for winter parkas and snow boots. It’s a really good time for it price-wise though I won’t be able to test them out beyond fit. I bought 6(?) pair of boots yesterday – Pajar, Cougar, Sorel, Columbia – most around $40, while a couple were in the $80 range. I also bought a Pajar parka, though I have a feeling it’s going to be too small. I’m hoping some of the Canada Goose, Moose Knuckles and Mackage parkas I’ve been eyeing will be deeply discounted over the summer, but they don’t seem to get too cheap 0_0
Oh, and I bought everything on amazon with slow (not Prime) delivery so they’d get to my apartment next week after we’re moved in. I just got shipping updates and they’re set to arrive Saturday (!) I’ll have to drive over and intercept as the current tenants will surely not appreciate a porch full of boxes showing up on their own moving day. Oops (but really not my fault!)
And finally – any tall women (5’9″+) here that have recommendations for winter tundra gear? I’m 5’10” and have broad shoulders, long arms, and long legs and I have a feeling finding a parka that fits is going to be a bit of a challenge. I’d like one that hits at the knee or lower, too, which may not even be possible for, like, under $1k. But I am perpetually freezing as it is (Reynauds), so I’m not going to face this winter unprepared.
Try Lands’ End.
Did you get mittens?
Nope, haven’t gotten into accessories yet 😉
Gloves, and the right ones are Key with Reynaud’s. Probably more than the right coat, for me anyway.
I’m going to have to email you for some recommendations. What I’m really worried about are my feet.
Seconding Lands End
You are going to love the Pajar boots, best boots I ever wore. Toasty warm and comfy. Mackage is $$$ but love my coat. As for your height/build issues, have you checked out the men’s section? I buy kids stuff all the time because I’m small, and often the mens has better designs, when I can find something that fits.
I was stuck buying men’s stuff in my 20s because it was much harder back then to find women’s clothing for taller builds. But men’s clothes are really cut for men (smaller hips, etc.) so the proportions are totally off. Which Mackage coat do you have? I’ve been eyeing the Jada, and almost bought the last one Nordstrom had (on sale) yesterday but someone got to it first!
I don’t know what style it is, bought it a couple of years ago on sale in Montreal. I also have a great knee length Mountain Hardware down coat I love, bought at REI. 600-800 fill should keep you warm.
kpaint, here’s the winter jacket I have and I love it
https://www.marmot.com/wms-montreaux-coat/78090.html
I’m being redundant here, but one of my favorite features is the fleece lining on the inside of the bodice-so nice. Also, can’t say enough about Marmot’s customer service. I got mine at Zappos on sale. I am 5’8”. Best of luck!
Oh, you are tall, too! I have read really good things about that coat but was worried about fit issues. I just donated a Marmot fleece & down combo jacket I hadn’t worn in ages because it was way too tight in the shoulders. I’ll give it a try! (By which I mean buy the one that’s already in my amazon cart 😉 ) I have an Eddie Bauer parka with a fleece liner and it makes it really cozy and soft.
I’m also 5’10” and have had good luck with Eddie Bauer and Lands End – they both have tall sizes.
My Eddie Bauer parka is a tall and fits perfectly. There’s an even longer version of the coat I have but it’s not offered in a tall – but I’m wondering if that’s because it’s off season and they don’t have everything in stock?
I bought my coat (which looks like a CG knockoff) from Macy’s on sale for under $100. I’ve stayed very warm in it. (Key is to put the coat on before heading out into the cold…allows the body warmth to start working.) Realized the fake fur-lined hood is great when it’s snowing…keeps the flakes off the face and keeps my face much warmer when it gets real cold.
Look forward to hearing your boot feedback. (Btw, Darn Tough wool socks are fabulous)
And, the Uniqlo heat-tech products for under clothes do work at helping you stay warm.
I have lots of those, and the compact down jacket makes an excellent layer under my coat.
Yep, and the down vest is WARM!
I’m also coming up with blanks for this project except for obvious weather/mood choices.
I’m wearing A la Rose today, hoping things start coming up roses for all who are suffering from the personal to the global. I’m feeling some sadness today, myself.
Sorry to hear that you are sad. I hope tomorrow being Friday and the weekend coming up alleviate the feeling.
Thanks h!
The past couple of weeks have been utterly abysmal. I had to just stop yesterday as I was becoming quite despondent. Hopefully things are not so bad for you on a personal level, though it can be difficult to separate the two.
Yeah, no, nothing is happening personally to me(and fortunately), it’s just the sudden cumulative effect of things that are just hard to swallow, combined with a sense of helplessness, I guess.
Sadness has become a huge virus! Hope your day is much better tomorrow. Cheer up! Sending big hugs!
There does seem to be a lot of it these days. Hugs back to you! You are quite courageous, yourself!

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
Perhaps tomorrow will bring a new arrival of feeling less sad.
Rumi had wise and beautiful words for every situation, it seems. Thanks for sharing.
I’m loving that Rumi quote.
Thank you for that, Aspara. It’s a beautiful quote and a good reminder of impermanence.
Things are tough all over right now. When I chant om at the end of yoga class, I always pray for the relief from suffering of all sentient beings.
May all beings be happy…
Hugs, Elisa P!
Thanks Robin! Hugs to you, too. We all need more hugs!
Sorry to hear that you are feeling down, Elisa P.
Thank you Jalapeno!
I hope your spirits are lifted soon. Sending hugs to you.
Thanks lillyjo and hugs back! I’m ok, just feeling a little heavy. It will pass.
I hope that tomorrow is a better day for you Elisa. I am feeling heavy-hearted today as well for personal reasons. Two of my family members were hospitalized. Also, two work buddies are working their last few days before retirement. Although I am happy for their sake, I will miss them. My office is a small group.
OH no! Wishing the family members well. As to retirement, well, I guess it depends on what’s next for them. I do find it sad when co-workers leave for any reason.
Aw, that’s a lot to deal with at once, Petunia!
Thanks to both of you for being sweet and kind.
SOTD = L’Occitane Immortelle de Corse
The box is blue with an off-center sunburst, the total opposite of today’s cloudy, gray and rainy day.
Has food labeling gone too far? Yesterday at Aldi, I saw a jar of Peanut Butter with Flax and Chia seeds. Sounds interesting! I looked at the label and it listed ingredients starting with Peanuts, then a short list of other ingredients. And then after the last ingredient: “Note: Contains peanuts”. Huh? Of course it does, it is the first it’s on the ingredients list! I can understand Fig Newtons with a note stating may contain traces of … or not processed in a peanut or treenut-free facility!
The idiocracy strikes again.
HA!!!
I’ve seen some similar food labels. They get a BIG eyeroll from me. ????
I just got my scratch and sniff USPS stamps! The scent is very light and does not last for too long. The whole booklet has a stronger smell, but you have to bring it closer to your nose. Nice and different anyway!
Fun! I’ll have to look out for them. I’m no philatelist, but I can relate to them 🙂
I might use some of the stamps, but since most people I am sure are not aware of them, I will scratch and sniff them before sending mail.????
Oh forgot about those, thanks for commenting because I will go and get some, even if the scent is light.
They are really fun!
I got the scratch and sniffs last Saturday and forgot to comment. I bought the last 2 booklets. Being a nerd I wanted to see if the smell was different based on the featured ice pop – verdict: I couldn’t tell because the only way to smell it without taking the stamp off the booklet was to bring the booklet close to my nose, at which point, I was actually smelling the entire booklet. This may be the first time I’m looking forward to paying the bills I don’t already pay electronically.
I also got 2 booklets and I completely agree that you have to bring the entire booklet close to your nose to smell them. I will tell the difference at the time I pay bills and I scratch and sniff them individually. Like you I pay them electronically, so I will make an exception just to use the stamps.
Have just arrived at my hotel in Dublin, wearing Parfumeur H’s Rose Green, as it’s a sample & small enough to fit in the obligatory plastic bag with cleanser, toner, shampoo, moisturiser etc as I only have handcarry luggage. Beautiful weather, as it was in Aberdeen when I left home this afternoon. Have found an independent perfume retailer which I will check out tomorrow or Saturday, & of course there’s the Brown Thomas department store, but again no purchases due to the handcarry restrictions – might manage to blag a couple of samples though! Looking forward very much to concert on Saturday evening by one of the US’s best exports to the world of music, Kris Kristofferson – woohoo!
What fun Carolyn — hope it is a great trip & concert!
Thank you, Robin – going well thus far – but a tad warm!
I have been travelling in parallel with you today, just a little south: from Edinburgh to Cork. (Though for work, not fun.) Absurdly hot right now, no? It just feels so *wrong*.
Trust your work trip went well, crikey. I’m back at the hotel after a very long day with 2 x 2 litre bottles of water – spent the morning in my old suburb, a little out of the city, so it was slightly cooler there, but the weather in the city itself is just ridiculous!
I looked in a sample box and pulled out Papillon Anubis. Whoa! It’s all leather and some resins. Supposedly it’s got several floral notes in there but I don’t detect them at all. This confirms me in thinking that leather perfumes are not for me. Some people might really love it though.
Hi all! SOTD is Amouage “Sunshine Man”, not that there’s much trace left at this stage of the day.
I’m once again on the train back from London to Birmingham, after what seems to have been a successful interview. Some last minute approvals to go through but 90% sure I’ll be starting work in London next week, perhaps as early as Monday. Won’t 100% believe it until everything is signed but TOMK and I will be going out for a curry tonight anyway, after several weeks of being careful with money. (A curry won’t break the bank in any event).
Merde! Hope you get the contract. 🙂
Sounds promising! Crossing my fingers for you. ????
Good luck!
Wishing you good luck! Enjoy the night out!
Good luck!
Warm and humid today, feeling summery in La Danza delle Libellule.
How does it smell? I would like to think that I have a sample / decant but it is floating in the sample sea somewhere!
Replied to the wrong comment – it’s fruitier than I remember, with a vanilla/caramel sweetness underneath.
Wow, this sounds good!

Today’s SOTD is Nina Ricci’s Farouche vintage extrait, from the heart-shaped perfume bottle. This has a wonderful carnation/aldehyde combo that I’ve always loved. The drydown is a chypre-like feel. 🙂
OOO Lovely! I would love to come to your house and sample/test all of your vintage fragrances 🙂 Would be a walk down memory lane for me-LOL!
Stop and pick me up on the way!????
You are both welcome to come on over!
I’ll put on a pot of Cuban coffee (or brew some mint tea) and serve up some fresh-baked banana nut bread. 🙂
You’ll have to be ok with two 22 lb Maine Coon cats though and they are both lap cats. =^.^= =^.^=
I will take Cuban coffee and mint tea and banana bread and two cats on my lap (although combined they weigh almost half of what I weigh-LOL! but I do love cats!!! They will anchor me down while you spray me silly 🙂 )
Late to the party but include me too! I’d love to join in; I’ll take the cats on my lap.
Absolutely! 🙂
Happy Tau Day, everyone! I saw a cloud that looked like a lower-case tau letter this afternoon when I was getting the mail. Kind of cool and funny at the same time.
SOTD = Byredo Gypsy Water, from the “I don’t want to quit” sample. I am SO close to finishing this sample. I can see the last few drops in the bottom of the sample vial. Maybe over the weekend it will happen.
FINISH IT FINISH IT 🙂
Gonna do my best this weekend. Scout’s honor!
STILL? You are giving me anxiety! ????????????
It’s like that sample is going “Ha! I taunt you again!”
You reminded me of being a kid and laying on the grass, staring up at the clouds and seeing what I could see. Isn’t Gypsy Water relatively light? You should just spray your sheets or curtains tonight.
I looked for things in the clouds as a kid, too. I remember doing it with my dad. So I figure that it’s OK to do it as an adult.
Totally ok, It’s just one of those little joys that old(er) me had forgotten. Thanks for the reminder????☁????????⛅
How did the tie-dyed shirt turn out?
I think it looks pretty darn good. The two colors I used complement each other nicely, and there is a good balance between white space and the pattern. I’m looking forward to giving it back to its owner.
A lot of Tempo talk, and especially comparisons to Coromandel piqued my interest so I’m in…Tempo this afternoon. It is indeed very nice. The similarity to Coromandel is not jumping out to me though I can see some similarities. I’ll give myself a bigger dousing when I get home.
Editing to add…a bigger dose is definitely better! The patch is a lot like Coromandel but this isn’t as huge. ????
I actually don’t smell the resemblance. You smell wonderful. It is too hot to wear in these here parts.
Funny, I prefer Coromandel in the heat. I get more incense and less cola. I am curious about Tempo now so must find a sample.
I’ll send you some! Do you mind re-emailing your address?
You are the best. I will email you. Please allow me to send some La Danza delle Libellule to you in return.
Black Perfecto, apropos of nothing in particular except that I was wearing a LPRN lipstick sample yesterday and it made me think of the perfume. (Thanks hajusuuri for offering the decant!)
I was thinking of wearing this tomorrow but I have some other contenders where the opposite explanation would fit better.
Again I have come late to the party (working very hard today) but I sprayed on Mare Nostrum 8:15 this morning and I can still smell it.
Can we maybe please sometime soon have a round of favourite/desert island/top 10 or so lists?
So what would be the community project — I mean, what fragrance would you wear? Just your absolute favorite?
I just meant the usual list making, not actualy wearing anything…
Gotcha.
Late to the party today — it has been a crazy day (the one I thought I was going to have yesterday). Scentwise I’m in Violet Blonde, but not wearing violet or “blonde” (although technically I’m kind of A blond – greying strawberry blond to be far too precise). It’s a calming scent for me, luckily.
I never smelled this, but dang I love the name.
Me too. I am curious about VB but never got around to testing it when it was readily available.
I sort of lucked into a FB, and didn’t realize at the time that it was one of the last ones. If I had, I might have bought more than one botyle. It’s lovely, spicy in a slightly cinnamon-y way on me, and generally the woods are more prominent than the violet (if those factor into the calculation). STC still has samples and decants available (hint hint; no affiliation).
I have the hiccups, which I am blaming for my misspelling of “bottle”. 🙂
We had heavy rain and thunderstorms today so I went with Bee’s Bliss because it’s liquid sunshine in a bottle.
Wearing a few sprays of Natori from the freebie meet. It’s really nice! And the bottle is cute; I love the way the top snaps on.
A few of us on our team had to move/switch spots this afternoon due to a some changes going on. At least I got to move by a window! And today was my Friday so now I’m off for 4 glorious days with no plans to go anywhere far.
