Happy Tuesday and happy Canoe Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm having a cup of Kenilworth Pekoe (Ceylon) from Upton, and I'm wearing a nice layer of Alba Botanica Kona Coffee After-Sun Lotion.
Reminder: 6/29 will be Opposite Day...wear the opposite of what would be expected. Suggested by Pyramus, who provided a bunch of examples: La Nuit on a bright sunshiny day, Matin Calin in the afternoon, Voile d’Ete in the depth of winter or Winter Delice in the middle of July, Aromatics In White when you’re dressed all in black.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is a coffee cup from the Colour Porcelain collection at Arita / Scholten & Baijings.
Good morning all! A liberal spritzing of Vanille Galante for me today. I didn’t sleep very well so hoping to make it through today with an interesting scent. Wish me luck!
I didn’t sleep well either. I am so so tired today
Good luck! You can do it!
You smell great! I didn’t sleep well either, must be in the air?
Hey, me three!! What is with that?
I slept awful too, I think it was a full moon last night. Hope your day goes well!
I got no sleep either! At least I’m in good company!
Same here. I dreamed all night and feel like I got no sleep!
Same here, my dreams were like a all night drive in.
Lol, oh no!
???? That description fits my dreams last night, too! The moon goes full tomorrow, and it’s always worse beforehand.
Lol! I should’ve come over with popcorn ????
I LOVE Vanille Galante, you smell fabulous.
As for the sleep, yikes! Full moon, solstice, whatever it is, I hope it passes soon. A small comfort, but I find that a restless night is usually followed by a night of sleep so deep I don’t dream at all.
I’m in Le Temps d’Une Fete today. Seems like the opposite of slogging through another day at work, soooooo … on theme? I want the color of that saucer on a scarf – gorgeous.
Oh you smell wonderful! I just commented on that discontinued beauty on Angela’s post from yesterday.
I think I have a sample of that, I had better dig it up before it evaporates, it gets so much love!
That saucer is beautiful. I would love a flower pot in that color.
I adore that shade of blue-green. Tiffany blue!
Paloma Picasso this morning..
I am not a wallflower today.
Nocturne Oriental tea
Watching Spain play Morocco yesterday and I was wondering if the Moroccan coach moonlights as an actor or model. Such a distraction..
He reminded me of Sean Bean. My husband kept quoting his lines from “National Treasure” whenever he was on the screen. But yes, that coach is a good-looker!
I’ve always had a thing for Sean Bean. ❤️
I think he is much better looking than Sean Bean!
Apparently, sexiest man at WC:
Thanks for the Daily Lemming Robin!Hahaha!????????♂️????????♂️
You can pick one up at your local high end department store I’m sure.
Woah! you made me look. Herve Renard. wow. Yeah, he certainly could be a model, those steely looks, his style, that body! I’m not a drooler, but it is just very impressive! Pretty sure his wife is a model too.
And, you smell great
+1 here. And may I just add, “Hummana hummana”.
That bone structure.
That first name.
Ditto on all your points!
Hold the phones… His last name has been playing in my head…..
He’s a FOX!!!
He is indeed
Renard = fox
It’s like the universe smiled slyly and granted us a favor, a very good-looking favor.
I think we need a Hervé haiku. ????
Yes, I’m still up reading comments.
ladies, y’all are so naughty
Eye Candy to end all eye candies. Y’all can have Carlos Huber / Kilian Hennessy and all their money.
Canoe day, sounds like fun! I am wearing Angel Muse edp over some brazil nut lotion, to amp up the nuttiness. Glorious sunny summer day here.
That sounds like a great combination I usually layer Angel Muse with a sweet lotion to amp up the cream, had not thought to boost the nuttiness.
It would sound more like fun if I was on a lake right now in a ????
Ohhh I bet you smell awesome. I love Angel Muse.
Nice! I ❤️ Angel Muse. And to answer your question from yesterday, Aura refill bottles came out the same time as the regular FB.
In PdN Rose Royale. A nice and simple rose scent with a fruity opening. It reminds me in some way of Jo Malone Red Roses. Another small decant that I finish and doesn’t need to be replaced.
I have not seen Deva and Johanob lately. I hope they are both fine.
I was thinking the same thing about Deva and Jonanob.
I follow Deva on Instagram. She and T-Rex are posting a ton of beautiful California shots – they were in Tahoe recently.
Glad to hear they are fine! Thank you Sistine!
Good to know, thanks! I really should expand my social media skills.
I love Deva’s Instagram!
Deva, if you’re reading, would you please share your insta again?!
Checking in!Isn’t Deva also in Nursing, like me?Maybe we both are having the same superbusy time at work.Anyway!Hi Guys!❤️????
Mugler Cologne today. I’m wearing a lot of eaus and colognes this week. Super hot and humid in East Texas.
A perfect choice!
I am wearing my sample of Slumberhouse Ore… I can make it opposite day by avoiding chocolate, but do I REALLY care that much about the CP? Only time will tell. Speaking with the bereaved spouse of a patient this morning has got me in a bit of a funk, so I’m glad I’m wearing something cozy.
What a difficult part of your job that must be, glad Ore is giving you some comfort.
I’m glad you’re in a comforting scent. Thinking of you, and all you do to help others.
Pretty sure no community project would be worth giving up chocolate for me.
Speaking of which, I am still going strong with my “resolution” to eat really great (milk) chocolate after dinner, although there was a break for a few weeks while the strawberries were local, and I had strawberrry shortcake instead.
The big winners of my taste-testing, for those in need of a treat, are as follows (in order of preference):
1. Green and Black Sea Salt Milk Chocolate–creamy, full of cocoa flavor, with the sweetness tempered by little salty bits.
2. Endangered Species Milk Chocolate–darker than most of the milk chocolates I tried, with an almost mocha taste. (But still not so dark as to trigger migraines.)
3. Theo Milk Chocolate–a nice, all-around creamy milk chocolate.
Honorary mention: Guittard Milk Chocolate, which I recall being delicious and lovely, but I only found it one time, and I think it’s about $4 a bar, making it less available.
According to myFitnessPal, this search has introduced approximately 14 different types of milk chocolate bar into my life since January . . . ????
I love Green & Black too! There’s just something special about it.
I’ve liked all the G&B I’ve tried (but who am I kidding, I like pretty much EVERY chocolate I try), but the sea salt milk is extra special, IMO!
Have you tried Choco-lonely? It is fab.
Yes! I liked it very much! But the way the bars are all in random bits (different size/shape pieces) bugs me. Makes it difficult for me to figure out what a “serving” is.
Theo and Guittard are in my top 5. SO GOOD. Thanks for sharing the results of your research!
It’s a hard job, but someone’s gotta do it.
This is a good one if you don’t mind me throwing in my 2 cents..
Looks like that’s two votes for Tony’s!
No affliction? That’s what they all say.
Oooooh, a milk chocolate that tastes like mocha? Very interesting! I’ll have to check that out.
Do report back, if you give it a try!
Grateful to you for doing the heavy lifting re: bereaved spouse. Your support and service mean the world to someone today, and tomorrow that someone “could be me.” Thank you!
Regina, I hope that you can take some time for yourself after having to have that difficult conversation. Thank you for being there when someone needed you.
Today’s tea: Blueberry basil kombucha.
SOTD is Chanel No. 19 EDT (many thanks to hajusuuri!!)
It sort of fits this week’s theme because it puts me in mind of a mature, sophisticated, socially-savvy sort of woman. I, on the other hand, am an early-career, millennial introvert. Lol.
I think of Chanel perfumes as aspirational. No. 19 smells like a woman I might want to be when I grow up.
Wonderful way to think of it and could be a community project! Aspirational perfumes and the person they make you want to be. Chinatown makes me want to be a nighttime party person! Etc.
Yes. I absolutely have a few scents that make me wish I were someone who went to “the clubs” to fit their carefree mood better.
I like your description I am not an early career millennial, but I think of No. 19 as too sophisticated for me, I appreciate it but I don’t relate to it….yet! ha ha
Your tea sounds delicious!
It was! My sister made me into a kombucha convert. It’s Kevita brand and I’ve found it in lots of different health food and grocery stores. It has just a little sweetness from the blueberry, and a kick of spicy pepperiness from the basil.
I love Kevita!!! My health food store sells them and I think I may have tried them all.
Got your email! Saturdays are the best day to mail stuff as the post office wants to get the last load out and packages seem to get to destinations much faster. I’ve worn No.19 EDT twice since I decanted!
I’m a day late but trying to do the opposite thing all week, so today I’m wearing my very precious vintage Shalimar extrait with old jeans and a t-shirt. Going to make lunch for my elderly mom and clean out her fridge, the opposite of elegance!
your outfit, perfume and lunch plans sounds fab!
jeans + t-shirt + vintage Shalimar = an excellent hi-lo!
Way to go helping Mom today, she has a wonderful daughter.
She knows the best part is she’s really appreciative. She loves perfume too!
Perfect! And you smell marvelous.
I LOVE that!Dressing down with clothes smelling like you’re on your way to the Oscars.❤️❤️
Cedre Sambac today, which is pretty glorious in the warmth.
Fun evening yesterday, with a surprise visit from a friend who lives down south: picnic supper and all the chat, and then a good old exploring rummage through the perfume collection. Turns out she likes a much more diverse range of scents that the “light pretty floral” she claimed, with some pretty fierce greens going home as decants, along with a couple of softer leathers. (The only hard nopes were the richer ambers and more austere incenses.)
That sounds really fun. What a nice surprise!
Mmm, lemming Cedre Sambac.
CT Bruma today(many spritzes) since it calls for Spring-like temps like we’re having today. The more I wear it, the more I love it and I notice different facets with each wearing-like today I’m smelling the lavender. I’m slightly tempted to get another coffret since 2 from the set are being drained rather quickly…
So, I should consider the Cire Trudon Coffret?
You smell great. I have a thing for lavender.
I added my sample of Bruma to a little bag labelled “Best of 2017.”
Thank you! Something about 2017 was good, at least.
Last I was browsing at Barney’s, the CT rep said he thinks they’re going to make 30ml sizes of the scents. Even then, I don’t think I could decide on one.
You smell great Robin! I’ll have to search out that after sun lotion.
I “caved” and bought a $3.99 10ml bottle of Sand & Sable at K-mart. I think it’s the perfect size for summer – if I had purchased the 2 bigger bottle gift pack, I would be resenting it knowing I would never finish it all.
I smelled a lot of the other cheapies, the Jovans and some others, and this is by far my favorite, it doesn’t smell sickly sweet or harsh to my nose. It reminds me of Jennifer Aniston’s first scent, the beachy one that reminds some people of Child perfume. So a cheapie-cheapie comparison, but still.
I read Angela’s smell-alike post from 6 years ago comparing it somewhat to Carnal Flower, I don’t get that (thankfully but do smell the tuberose.
I was thinking about layering it with Azuree to try to concoct my own Bronze Goddess.
Today, I have it layered with Pacifica Indian Coconut Nectar (thank you CM8), and I’m giving off a lot of summer good vibrations. I hope someone notices, ha.
Yay to getting Sand and Sable!!! I bought it many years ago when it first came out several times over! Glad to hear that it is still smelling wonderful…and nice layering with the Indian Coconut Nectar…bet you are smelling fantastic!
I’ve been wondering about Sand and Sable forever and there’s a KMart right by my house! At that price I better go try it. Thanks for enabling
Report back on the making of your own Bronze Goddess.
I am sad to tell you that I think they have reformulated the lotion — it is less coffee, more sweet than it used to be.
Persistence pays off!
I’ll probably be wearing it until Sunday…then start the week with something new
I’m wearing iris 39 today. I think this is my 4th sample? I guess it fits Opposite Day because usually if I finish a sample and still want more, I order a bottle. I haven’t purchased a bottle of this yet because I would really like to do it in person, but the closest le labo store is 9 hours away. Oh well, sometime when I’m in DC.
My apologies if someone has already mentioned this – Nordstrom now sells a 0.33 oz Tobacco Vanille Parfum Pen Spray for $55. I will be extremely excited if other Private Blend fragrances are offered in this format.
Your mention of Tobacco Vanille reminded me that I was recently exploring the Alexandria Perfumes website…they make their own perfumes but they also have “copies” of some high end niche…has anyone tried anything from this brand? The prices are extraordinarily reasonable (I believe $59 for 60 ml) and they also have a make your own sampler…..
Here we go-
and 10 ml travel sprays for 15.99
Oh no! CM8, I just took a quick look to the site. Terrible! You are going to make me stop my good behavior for the past 6 months. I will try my best to keep sitting on my hands until I break them, but not sure if I will survive this time. They have really great “copy” fragrances. Thanks for the info!
If you check YouTube, I believe there are a few opinion reviews on some of the copy perfumes by them.
Oh dear…so sorry pl67! I too have been looking at the website over the past few days…they have so many great dupes..le labo, TF, Nasomatto, etc. I watch the youtuber Peter of Fragranceview and every scent that he adores (and there aren’t too many because he admits to being picky) there is a dupe of! We will sit on each others’ hands to avoid the temptation
Any favorites of this alexandria website?
I haven’t tried any and probably won’t for a long while but they sound really good…hoping someone who has tried them might chime in….
I tried their dup of Xerjoff Lira, it was good.
thanks for chiming in!!! Good to know for future reference
The Anniversary Sale is coming up! 2 things look particularly good:
– Carnal Flower travel spray with holder $83
– Jo Malone 3 x 9ml atomizer minis (WS&SS, Nectarine Blossom & Honey and Dark Amber & Gingerlily) and matching body Creme $100
And Iris 39 was my first Le Labo purchase and I ❤️ it!
Wearing Mancera Sicily today. Adjusting to the creaks and groans of an old house, plus different patterns of traffic and neighbours, mean that I slept poorly too.
Extra coffee is definitively called for.
Extra coffee, and forebearance!
I hope those creaks and groans become familiar and comforting soon enough! In the mean time, more ☕️!
This is late, but I’m so happy for you, moving into your new digs! A fresh start in a new place that suits your life better is never easy, but SO worth it. I hope you sleep better tonight. ????
It’s almost july and I’ve officially started my spring cleaning! I’ve gone through 3 dresser drawers and my sons desk. I need someone to tell me it’s ok to get rid of my not that great boot collection, circa early 90’s. Probably the reason my feet are so bad now… sotd is Black Perfecto. Opposite because, obviously, I am not Perfecto LOL.
it’s OK to get rid of that not so great boot collection
I knew I could count on you!
Good for you, and yes, it’s absolutely okay to get rid of things you no longer need or can wear!!!
(Now, please, please, tell me the same thing! I have trouble getting rid of stuff: “But so-and-so gave me that whatsit on my 9th birthday…”)
You are just as perfect as you need to be.
Aww thanks.. and right back at you ????
Unwanted items with strong memories attached are a burden, IMHO. I hope you are able to give yourself permission to relieve yourself of a few of those burdens. It is wonderful self-care!
That’s my goal, to start caring for myself more.
Do not think it twice! Get rid of everything you do not need!
I’m doing it!
Yes – get rid of the boots – even if you regret it – at least “regret” will be a novel feeling compared to the feelings of “not wanting to get rid of things”. I recently flooded my Facebook feed with lots of pages focusing on minimalism to steer my thoughts in this direction. My only problem is I need more time to get rid of stuff – I wish you a clear space and a clear mind !
Thanks, with my recent health issues, I seem to feel just burdened by the amt of useless crap I have been storing. The worst part is when I tackle the stacks of papers.
I feel you – i have the same issue, I have determined the only solution is carving out time on my calendar that I honor as much as I would a doctors appointment or some other event like that – and take baby steps. I know the solution – now I just need to follow it ????
You ARE Perfecto even if it’s a perfecto-in-progress.
Say bye-bye to those boots! I find that the newly empty space will make way for some welcome peace of mind.
All of them in my trunk, headed to donations and one very loved pair in the trash! I threw in a stuffed animal and a few more articles of clothing to “boot” ????
Take a digital photo of those boots (so you can revisit them if you ever miss them) and then wave goodbye. Permission to get them out of your life GRANTED!
Thanks! It’s sad, I loved them so back in the day, but my feet have always hated them.
Well you smell FABULOUS!!
Busy with kinda the same, but tackling kitchen cupboards first.Who needs 10 soup ladles….????????♂️????????♂️????????
I know, right? I barely do what could be called cooking, yet I have so many serving platters! Why?
Me too! So ridiculous. And ceramic pitchers, which I never use. What was I thinking?
Thumbs up for starting your spring cleaning! I have some clothes that I have emotional attachments too as well. Not ready to give those up just yet. Since you have made the decision to give up the boots, though, I think that following through is the best thing to do. Yay you!
Still on my sample of Neela’s Niral. It is beautiful.
Your really making me want to seek this out. It’s great when you fall in love with a perfume.
I second making me want to try this one!
Pretty freaking annoyed with work right now. The company that I work for sets down what kind of breaks we are entitled to. Yep, I work in retail. A manager had said that if I have someone else working with me in the department, all breaks must be taken before they leave. That’s great and all but not always possible since the person I have is the wandering sort. I was yelled at and told that they don’t feel like dealing with the department I work in. I am not sure what to do since this is not the general manager. I will see what happens today. I think that I will wear no 19 in edt form for backbone.
Hey Dawn, fellow retail worker here. I hate the break/lunch rules. My boss recently made a rule that all breaks have to be done by 7 o’clock. Doesn’t work, especially with a 9 hour shift. Anyway, if you have a wanderer, my suggestion is to page them when it’s break time. If they don’t show, page a manager. They have to give you your break, it’s the law, and should be in your employee handbook. For the little amt we make, I wish they would quit messing with the breaks. Good luck!
1) Against the law
2) Talk to your fellow co worker regarding breaks and lunch periods if they are the wandering sort;
Re: 1) sad to say, it’s not against the law in most states and it is also not covered under federal law
Hope the No. 19 does the trick for you today. Hang in there!
Hello, house twin! I hope that No. 19 works its magic for you.
Rest and meal breaks are governed by state law and not federal law. Do check the Department of Labor website which has links that contain info on state law.
I hope you get this resolved quickly.
Hello NST folk! Fraternal greetings from the London-Birmingham train, where I have been sipping rose wine (not quite cold enough) and emailing various contacts. The beautiful sunny weather really shows the English countryside at its most charming, so I have also been distracted just looking out the window at fields and canals and trees as they flick past.
I am still looking for a next contract, which was not the plan for this late in the month, but not time to panic yet. :^D
Malaga apartment is 1 week away from being finished so we shall need to fly out soon. Might be taking some blow-up beds with us as it won’t be furnished and, for all its many advantages, Andalucia is not the kind of place where you order furniture in the morning and have it delivered by the afternoon. (Unless you buy IKEA, but I kind of feel we’ve been there and done that and would rather good stuff this time round, thanks).
I was down in London at a networking event with a big 4 consultancy last night and forgot to pack any perfume for today. So I am inadvertently ‘on trend’ for the community project, as wearing nothing at all* is the opposite of what people would expect of me.
*calm down people, only talking perfume here. I promise I am legal, decent, honest and truthful.
That cup and saucer… like the colours and the glazes, but otherwise they are ALL WRONG. The saucer can’t catch any spills! The handle can’t be held! Why? :^D
Exciting that your apartment is almost done!
It really is! :^)
1) I am properly jealous of your apartment in Al-Andalus!
2) Sometimes no perfume is necessary to make you appreciate what you have at home.
I sprayed some Batucada when I got back – perfect! ;^)
Ugh. Furniture shopping is such a challenge, even with options! Hope you find things you really love–and they get delivered in a reasonable amount of time!
I found an Italian sofa I really liked online – once you choose a tolerable cover and colour it was €5000. Hah, no! So we’ll just have to schlep around the trading estates of Malaga City like everyone else. And sit on packing boxes until it’s delivered 6 weeks later. :^D
Totally agree about cup and saucer! Love the picture, no desire to own them.
Yay for apartment. If you need me to go and get the furniture shopping done for you, just say
Hah, make me an offer and you could be our personal shopper!
Rose wine sounds delicious!
Ah, I missed the accent, it was just rosé wine. Rose wine does indeed sound delicious – like a liquid turkish delight, perhaps?
Yes! Excited for Malaga. I did laugh though because I’m wanting more IKEA in my old age. Haven’t been there, haven’t done that.
I had the exact same reaction to the cup and saucer. All form, no function.
Congratulations on your apartment renovations almost being done! That’s got to be a relief.
How exciting about the apartment, although I loathe shopping for furniture. Usually I get frustrated and just buy at Ikea or Costco.
Sounds like such a pleasant, civilized way to travel.
Congrats on being so close to getting into your Malaga place! And the contract will come…
Meant for Koenigsberg, of course.
Well, years ago I would drive but London now is ridiculous for motorists (slow traffic, entry toll, eye-watering parking charges). It is my little treat to myself to de-stress by travelling first class by train.
After traveling around Italy by train over the holidays this past year, I don’t know why anyone would do otherwise, where it is an option! Coffee/wine/snacks, a paper to read (albeit in Italian), friendly service, and lightning fast! So civilized.
I wish our regional governments were forward-thinking enough to put in highspeed commuter lines in my part of the world!
ME TOO. One of my biggest gripes of daily life in California. I don’t think there’s a single similarly-sized metropolitan area in Europe with as little public transit infrastructure as the Bay Area. Grump.
YES. You folks need better transit options, stat!
I’m north of you in Portland. My grand dream would be a system of highspeed trains that connects metro areas from Vancouver, BC down to the Bay Area.
Whenever I get around to being Empress of Cascadia, it’ll be top of my to-do list!
Haha. You know what’s funny? I’ve visited Portland a couple times, and I was impressed with your public transit That just speaks to how deplorable ours is. I like your empress plans!
I’m wearing Fancy Nights for a perfectly ordinary workday. The cheap sluttiness of it is so delicious in my nerdy-conservative work environment.
Haha! Love it!
Perfection! Cheap sluttiness is the best kind ha!!
Just spewed my tea! Thanks, I needed a laugh.
Sampling Hiram Green’s Dilettante this morning, which – with it’s “lush garden” vibe – is definitely opposite my scorchingly dry desert environment.
Giving a shout out for some comedy shows I’ve recently watched on Netflix – Ali Wong (Baby Cobra and Hard Knock Wife) and Hannah Gadsby (Nanette). I watched Nanette last night, and it’s still having an effect on me this morning. I didn’t know anything about Hannah Gadsby before watching the show, and it was both hilarious and heart-wrenching.
I love Dilettante, wore it yesterday! It’s such a happy scent. I think I’ll be buying the 10ml size soon since my sample is almost out.
Those shows are sidesplitting AND make you cry. Great shows!
Netflix twins. I watched Nanette last night also! Had not heard of her. The self-deprecating humor she touched on really was fascinating, and made me think.
Yes, I’m still pondering all that she said.
I’ve been meaning to watch those, but I’m hesitant because I can only imagine how heart-wrenching Nanette must be. I saw and LOVED her in Please Like Me (go watch it! it’s wonderful!), and then heard an interview with her on Fresh Air, I think. I really like her.
I really liked her, too. Nanette is without doubt worth watching, but it is not a standard comedy routine. It is definitely funny, and it keeps being funny while a huge amount of tension builds up. Then it gets pretty searing, in a completely unfunny way. You won’t regret the watch, though.
Ali Wong, on the other hand, is super easy. Lots of giggles and snickers, but no tears.
I am wearing Esprit d’Oscar today and drinking peppermint tea. I have the family (my parents, my son, daughter-in-law and my daughter) coming over for dinner tonight. My parents have recently had health problems and I am glad for any get-togethers we can have.
can you pass me some peppermint tea..
Have fun Barqs! I hope your dinner goes well.
Jo Malone Basil & Neroli for me today. Slogging through this Tuesday but at least the weather is beautiful.
You smell great! Might get myself the Basil & Neroli lotion as a birthday present this year
Today I’m wearing my sample of Byredo’s Elevator Music. So far no complaints from others in the office.
How do you like it? I recently got a sample and I have to say it’s a no go for me.
Wearing Glossier You, I’ve probably said this before, but it’s super corny and I love it.
Thinking about getting a bagel sandwich as a balm for my bad dentist appointment (aren’t they all?) I’m already here, you don’t have to insult my crooked teeth too! I’m vulnerable as it is!
Now that’s just mean! I think you deserve a new dentist as well as a bagel sandwich. ????
Hey twin, we smell great!
Sorry about your dentist.
Teeth shaming – can you believe it? Mine does this, as well. He is quite good technically, which is why I continue to see him (and in my tiny town, good medical care is hard to find), but I could do without the judgment.
I was just thinking, you’re getting plenty of money out of me, I have real tooth problems! I had half a mind to just tell them to forget the treatment plan and I’d go somewhere else, but I don’t want to have to get x-rays again :/
The records belong to you. Couldn’t you get them transferred?
The last time I went to the dentist, they’ve tried to talk me into braces. It irritates me so badly.
I’m doing responsible, adult things today: grocery shopping, house cleaning, bill paying…..so my SOTD is ELDO Divin ‘Enfant. Thanks to ElisaP for this one! ????
Hi house cleaning twin! You smell wonderful!
Me too-Will go to the grocery store shortly
Sotd is Glossier You. This one is really growing on me.
Canoe day! Who knew?! I was just out in our canoe on Saturday. My husband and I do a lot of canoeing but Saturday we also took our youngest along. I sat in the middle and let the two of them do all the paddling. Ha! My kids are all excellent paddlers as a result of time spent at summer camp. After 12 years (and counting) of summer camp tuition, I felt like I earned that free ride.????
Good for you on the free ride, mom! We wanted to kayak/float down the Rio Grande Saturday with the kids, but we don’t own kayaks and the place everyone recommends renting from was already booked up. It’s definitely on my to-do list though.
So your area hasn’t had any problems with the rafting/kayaking season? I know some places in the Southwest were worried that there wasn’t going to be enough water for that.
Not as of now. I do know we are under a pretty bad drought but apparently the section of the Rio Grande that everyone is floating here around town is still high enough! I hope I get the chance to do it before the drought gets worse.
I hope that you get your chance, too. I enjoyed my one and only raft trip on the Colorado River.
1) Beautiful morning and it will be a perfect, perfect summer day: 76F, mixed clouds and sun.
2) Of course, I am in Cap Neroli and I washed my hair with Rose Jam. I smell great, I think!
3) And Now is the time here on Sprockets for not one, but TWO mini reviews of fragrant products:
a) Vintner’s Daughter: This skin serum has a combo of 22 different oils and oil distillates, in a base of grapeseed oil. You get a distinct and rather lovely spicy/floral fragrance that very gently persists for a few hours. This serum has an astringent quality, despite being an oil, and has indications that it can help protect the skin barrier and over time repair it. I had a bad breakout of acne and some PIH that came along with it (during to shifting hormones after surgical procedures) and used some rather harsh remedies that further exacerbated the irritation and further PIH. After stopping with all that, I used this AND Drunk Elephant C-Firma- VD at night, C-F during the day, under day lotion. I have seen good results- gentle toning of skin, the PIH has receded and faded gently and skin feel incredibly soft and smooth. HOWEVER: I did stop using the harsh treatments, I did stop using Retin-A, and I used a day lotion with SPF 15. So I while I think that VD is effective, I think that it is marketing towards men and women who have scoured their skin with harsh chemical treatments, lasers and microdermabrasions and who need to help rebuild their skin, and who don’t mind paying luxury prices for an oil serum.
I was just gifted a couple of bottles (friends in HWOOD!) and I bought a bottle. It is $180 per bottle. I will not be repurchasing; instead I will use rosehip oil when I run out.
b) Uma Wellness Oils: These are LOVELY- and why did I not know about them before? I bought these on sale a couple of days ago at Anthropologie. Each wellness oil is a blend of fragrant oils in a jojoba base, and it’s purpose to uplift, ground or calm the spirit. It’s concentrated, so you only a need a drop or two on pulse points and on the soles of the feet to help with whatever troubles your spirit. The quality of the oils are superb. I think this would be great to have in a desk drawer for a mid day pickup instead of tea or coffee. Expensive af BUT since they are a blend of true essential oils, made in India by workers paid a fair wage & healthcare, this is an expense that is worth it. $80/bottle or $40 for the sampler set. I got my bottles, Bliss and Energy, on sale at Anthropologie for $39 each.
rose + neroli = smells great, for sure!
Thanks for the reviews, my budget and I will have to stick with rosehip oil for now, but the VD oil is something I will recommend to my mom (she can afford it!). She has some skin that needs extra TLC.
Cold pressed rosehip oil is perfectly fine for most folks with combo to dry skin, TBH! But I did find that VD was incredibly comforting and effective- so if your mom can spring for it, I say go for it!
Maybe I’ve asked you already, but how do you like Cap Neroli? Is it more classically orange blossom cologne like Neroli Portofino, or is it more of a floral blend?
Cap Neroli is NOT like Neroli Portofino- it lasts longer, for one! For second, it’s both floral AND herbally- a crisp green citrus with a beautiful ylang/jasminy heart.
The crisp herbal beginning and the slightly ambery dry down makes this very sexy and unisex. I called this the “Armie Hammer summer perfume” (after his performance in Call Me By Your Name- also the Portrait) – sunny, quite beautiful, and subtly persistent.
I love your perfume descriptions.
Oh, why thank you!
Ede, is the rosehip helping with the acne and PIH? If so I will recommend to middle Marzipan…she was on a low dose of Retin A for quite some time but had to stop as it was really irritating her already sensitive skin (and Lord knows I cannot afford the Vitner’s Daughter so I WON”T even mention it to her!)
Okay , so I am still using VD about 2x a week, and the rest of the time rosehip oil. It’s a little heavier than VD and not astringent but it does help with PIH, and it is a leading ingredient in VD.
Having said that: If your mini marzipan has a low dose Retin-A or equivalent, have the mini use it only 2x a week, with rosehip oil teh rest at the time, at night only and after washing the face THOROUGHLY. Gently massage in the oil while teh face is still damp (unlike Retin-A, where you have to wait for the face to dry) Just a few drops at a time.
She has extremely sensitive skin and was using the low dose REtin A only at night every third night…it was just too much so she stopped using it. I am going to tell her to try the rosehip seed oil…right now she is using jojoba as it seems to be the least troublesome but I think the rosehip might be better…thanks for the advice!
Rosehip oil has a lot of anti oxidants, including beta carotene, so your Mini Marzipan may find it better to use. Jojoba is very soothing, but the rosehip oil is soothing and healing to the skin.
Hmm. I just looked up PIH and realized that that’s what those dark splotches on my legs are (from ingrown hairs, from waxing). Do you know if rosehip oil should help with those kinds of non-facial dark splotches? Sounds expensive to slather my legs with the stuff, but I don’t really want to use chemical exfoliants….
Yes I get those too. I have used cheap bha 2% exfoliant (Stridex) and rosehip oil to minimize the look. Stridex pads first, the a few drops of rosehip oil.
Well, I’ve finally settled on a SOTM, Tauer’s Zeta. I may regret it, not because it won’t be lovely, because it is, but because it is precious to me, and I will inevitably have to shower it off after my morning’s gym visit, and likely before it has gone away. But, it smells like summer to me, and the sun is shining. ☀️????????
Then worth it! Hope it made it through the gym at least.
I’m in OJ Frangipani today wishing I were in a bathing suit at a tropical beach somewhere. Instead, I’m in a black jumpsuit in an office looking at a computer. At least I smell good. :/
You DO smell good!
OJ Frangipani is a great choice…and a wonderful contrast to an office!
Maybe you can put a photo of the beach on your computer?
Yes you do smell good.
Perfectly on theme at least :/
I’m in Ineke Idyllwild today. It is the outdoors in a bottle, and right now, that works for me. I haven’t had a lot of interest in perfume over the last couple months; I often just skip it.
Anyway, I’ve been reading The Nature Fix by Florence Williams, and have forests and trees on the brain, so there’s a selection of green and forest-y samples sitting out.
You smell wonderful.
SotD = Infusion d’Iris edt
Wore this one last night. Why am I in the habit of wearing it only in the evening? So good post-shower, nicely soothing. It feels calming this morning and deserves more daytime outings.
Next I will work up the courage to wear No. 5 in the early hours, that one almost never comes out until evening too.
Hope everyone has a fragrantly fabulous day. And a few moments of peace. Or a nap if you can manage it.
I do the same thing. The funny thing is that many are perfumes that I really love.
Yes, not enough hours in the day for all the perfume that I love to wear.
Infusion d’Iris was my gateway drug into iris perfumes.
Same here, I fell hard for iris after Id’I came into my life.
Listen….when I was 15 I wore heavy doses of no 5 in ballet class…so you have my permission to wear it in the day
That’s so funny and yet I can perfectly imagine how glamorous you must have felt.
thanks, cm8! I feel better about it already. Perhaps tomorrow will be a No. 5 morning for me.
I bet your No. 5 aura lingered for several more ballet classes. Wonderful.
Everyone can use a good calming scent for days when The Crazy runs rampant! Good for you on wearing some of your nighttime loves during the day.
ha! yes, no sense arguing with The Crazy. Just perfume it!
I am wearing white today, so I went with Black Jade. Love this one.
Love, love Black Jade. It’s at the top of my “within reach” fb list. You smell gorgeous!
Thanks Lilyjo! It’s a beauty! Beauty Habit used to sell it. Not sure if they still do. I bought mine when they offered a discount code.
I have a hard time letting go of things too. I have really nice expensive clothes from my single-girl days. I think it’s the memories tied to them. I do get rid of a little each year but still manage to keep too much stuff. I think it’s a process.
I’m pretty good with clothes, because I hate buying them, unless necessary, but I’ve held on to my younger years clothes too, things that are now vintage, but I would never wear again. It is a process, it’s like letting go of a part of yourself. I vow to be ruthless though.
I really admire you. I’ve got a lot of clothes that I should get rid of–out of fashion, no longer the right size (I’ve fluctuated a lot over the past years), and being retired means I need fewer good clothes. I also feel attachment to some things just due to memories. Becoming aware of my mom’s problems in cleaning out her house to get ready to move into assisted living has also made me much more conscious of my need to de-clutter. (She’s always been good at it and STILL has problems.) I recently learned of a group of younger women who hold occasional clothes swaps, so I’m donating several bags of my nicer things to them. I’m happy they can use them and they will probably enjoy some of them since they’re into vintage (I’m afraid some of my old things count now!) and also the group includes people of varying sizes.
It’s because of yours and LizzieBs experiences that have motivated me, even though 6 years ago I had to go through my moms stuff, you guys made me realize I really don’t want anyone to go through my stuff some day. And really I need to focus on today and quit holding on to the past.
I was recently given an Atelier Cologne coffret, with mostly different scents to the ones I’ve tried before. Going with Bergamot Soleil today, fully in keeping with the sunny weather. It smells nice, but is much more fleeting than most of their scents.
That’s to bad, hope you find one you like.
For those who wondered,yep I’m still alive!Lol!
Turning 42 on Thursday. That gets to me like seriously.I’m not ready to be 42 yet!!!Lol!!
Anyway!True story:watched All About Eve last night for probably the millionth time, soooo SOTD!: What About Adam?.Beautiful lavender from Joop.A favorite all year round!
These past couple of days have been crazy at work.Being second in charge at the hospital is HARD!!My superior is on a month-long trek through China/Japan/Tibet.She is turning 50 on July 6 at Everest basecamp.HOW COOL IS THAT!!
Just thought I’d quickly pop in and say HI to my favorite perfumed people. You know who you are!
Just got worried that you have “disappeared”. Happy to hear you are doing fine, no matter how busy you are. Take care and keep smelling wonderful as usual!
Thank you Perfumelover67!Hope you’re doing well too!I vow to NEVER leave the house without perfume, even if it is AXE…haha!Have a great week!❤️
Happy early birthday, johanob!!!! My dad turns 81 tomorrow.
What About Adam is supposed to be a phenomenal fragrance…I think it also has tomato leaf if I am not mistaken? Chris of Scentland (youtuber) raves about it….I rather like the Joop! fragrances…I had both Femme and the male version in my wardrobe in the late 80s/early 90s.
It is a unique lavender, quite herbal, and I get the tomato leaf, yes!Love it,and works surprisingly well in this odd SUPERCOLD winter we are having this year!
Thanks so much for the Birthday wishes!
And same to your Dad!Give him a hug on my behalf, all the way from South Africa!
Hey there! Good to hear from you! And 42 isn’t so bad, after all it’s the ultimate answer to everything.
Glad you popped in. Happy early birthday!???? lots of June babies around here. 42 will look great on you!
Enjoy 42, I am 52!
SOTD is Eric Buterbaugh/EB Florals Apollo Hyacinth. This is the last pick from the 6 months of Scentbird that my brother and sister-in-law gave me for Christmas. I’m trying to decide if I’m going to keep going with it.
I like Apollo Hyacinth. It’s nice and cool and green, which is good because it’s hot and nasty outside. Too bad it’s so expensive, but I’m sure the scentbird sample will be enough to last me for a good while.
I have a decant somewhere!
I don’t have a subscription but I think you can end up choosing perfumes that would otherwise cost you more per ML if you were to buy a bottle at retail.
Wearing Baiser de Russie and Cri de la Lumiere today.
I have tried both before and they’re both nice but fairly meh to me.
I wore Tempo again yesterday and I do think I will need a FB of that one…will have to compare it to Coromandel EDT too.
Tempo!!!! Not surprised you are thinking about a FB
Yes, it’s a good one. Just finished yesterday’s shirt from the hamper to sniff the sleeves to relive it. True story. ????
Just *fished* that is.
Twins in BdR and I do love it so.
Tempo – ahhhhhh….
Yes there is some vanilla in BdR too.
Tempo is a real find…so smooth to my nose.
I need to send you Solstice Scents Estate Vetiver – Vetiver! Vanilla! Patchouli!
I agree on BdR and CdlL. Patchouli on the other hand, mmmmm.
Did you like Tempo? I sniffed it at the store on paper and probably had some olfactory fatigue but I was indifferent to it. Got a sample and wore it on skin a few days ago and was blown away.
I’ve only done a cursory skin test of Tempo, but I did like it. Warrants further testing.
WearIng Breath of God because it’s the opposite of the two dogs perched on my bed, breathing on me while I eat my toast.
Hahahahaha! Dog bref and toast. Woof!
I had my guy groomed last weekend, and it was pun-city in the doggy cologne section, like CK-9 and Timmy Holedigger. ????
LOL! ???? ????
Breath of God vs, breath of Dog… hard choice.
Ostara for me today. Not opposite anything. Just was in the mood.
Walked down to my favorite theater to see the movie about Fred Rogers. I was too old for his show, but I watched it sometimes as an adult. My favorite way to watch was in my hotel room on business trips. He was calming. One of my favorite episodes was him visiting a schoolroom and its teacher just before the school year started. His purpose was to give kids going to school for the first time a tour in advance so they’d feel more comfortable. He really did have a knack for getting into kids’ heads.
I think I’ve mentioned on here (maybe not?) that I used to live in his neighbourhood, literally! That is, I lived on the street of the Public TV station in Pittsburgh where he filmed, and we could see him every morning parking his car and strolling down the street to do his shows. That was kind of cool!
Seeing Mr. Rogers going to work every day? Definitely cool!! I have fond memories of watching him way, way back when.
That is really neat!
That is so cool! What a great memory!
This gives new meaning to Reality TV and you didn’t even need a Kardashian.
Pretty sure I’ll never need a Kardashian. . .
Agreed! Only a Kardashian needs a Kardashian and since they seem to have pack mentality,, they are all set.
I’m in the crowd of people who are dragging today. Not sure why. I haven’t noticed any allergy symptoms acting up, or kept any weird hours. (shrug)
SOTD = back in Cristalle again. I was tie-dyeing a T shirt for a friend earlier today, and now it is sitting while the dye does its magic. Tomorrow I get to see what sort of pattern showed up.
Isn’t that so fun, to see what pattern you get?!
Yes, it is! This one is going to be a 2-step dye job. Today was the lighter color. Tomorrow, I rinse it out and apply the dark blue in some of the spots that did not get the first color. It takes a while, but applying the colors in sequence is worth it.
I don’t think I had ever tie-dyed anything? Have fun with the reveal!
Thanks! I hope my friend likes the results.
Hello everyone, I guess I’m not like most of you with trouble sleeping because I managed to sleep till noon again! I have become a night owl lately. Lots of kitty company in bed is very soothing. This morning, I mean this afternoon, I’m wearing MFK A Part of Me or APOM. It has really grown on me, such a beautiful rose. I got my 20% off coupon from Ultra and might venture out into the torrid weather outside to pop over to the store and buy one of those gorgeous emerald green bottles of Aura.
The Aura bottle is gorgeous!
So, I went there and bought it, but forgot the coupon. I am going to go back tomorrow and take the coupon and ask for a refund. I thought they’d have a record of it on the computer but they didn’t. I sprayed lavishly in the store and do like it. I’m getting heavy bergamot and vanilla, like some nice summer ice cream bar! Also very light orange blossoms. It’s a pretty fragrance, which is a plus, but I truly bought it for that bottle, since green is my favorite color.
They should adjust it, if not, make sure to ask for a manager.
Do it! I just had to call ULTA because they didn’t send me my coupon.
My day hasn’t been great, but the one redeeming feature has been Début my SOTD. Really glad the day is nearly done.
Wishing you a better night and a great tomorrow!
I think I should tell you given your screen name about a forthcoming book on Austen’s Emma, in which I have an article. More if you want, I am cfreeland followed by four nines in the yahoo realm.
SOTD = Guerlain Baiser de Russia
It is not the opposite of anything that would apply to me unless you consider AG Heyerdahl Exquise it’s opposite. You see, I tend to decant some perfumes into travel atomizers and the type I used for these were the same and I picked up the Guerlain “by mistake”. Anyway, I smelled good.
I have to really think about what perfume to wear for the CP this Friday!
I have a day off tomorrow and will be attending my nephew’s high school graduation in the evening.
Congratulations to your nephew on his high school graduation! ????????
I am finding this CP a challenge, I guess the idea of opposition here is too odd to me to pin down.
Yep, still thinking…
Congratulations to him! Enjoy your day off ????
Thank you…and believe it or not, they just had their prom!
All the misspellings are fat fingers or spell check run amok, just sayin’
but I am loving Heyerdahl Exquise
Well this day got away from me, but I smelled lovely in Wit. Now time to reapply…
