Happy Almost-Friday and happy World Music Day! Plus, the solstice. What fragrance are you wearing?
I celebrated the solstice by sleeping late. I am going to pick a fragrance one of you is wearing.
Reminder: on 6/22 we're doing the Picture challenge, edition 3. Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is David Hockney's Beverly Hills Housewife, from 1966. You can read more about the painting here and here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hindu Honeysuckle
I made cherry ???? clafoutis yesterday, mostly because I was nervous about Spain playing
Love clafoutis! In the same vein – slightly under the radar yet delicious baked goods – have you ever made or eaten a Dutch Baby?
No, can you tell me more about the Dutch Baby?
A Dutch Baby is a sort of cross between a pancake and a souffle, made in the oven, usually in a cast iron skillet. It can be sweet or savory, and is fairly easy to whip up. Eggs, flour, and milk form the base – oh, don’t forget the butter in the sizzling hot pan – and you can top it with whatever. A sprinkling of powdered sugar and some preserves on the side is classic, but the base is so plain you could do anything with it, really.
I just looked up some recipes! Yum!
This is probably the most odd sentence I’ve ever read here. Lol, don’t eat the Dutch baby!
Lol! I had a similar thought.
I realized that right after I posted. Making a Dutch baby is all well and good, but you really shouldn’t eat them!
Oh yum! I’ve been drooling over the cherries in my market all week.
Me too!
Ohhh yum! I’ve been eating a ton of cherries this past week, they are particularly good this year!
My favorite thing to do is to simmer them in reduced balsamic vinegar (reduce vinegar by 50%, it should have a thickness similar to molasses), add a touch of cinnamon and pour over vanilla ice cream. If you wanted to be healthy, you could top Greek yogurt with it.
wow..that sounds really good!
One day I should invest in a cherry pitter or some tool, taking the pits out by hand is annoying at times.
I will try this recipe out..now to buy vanilla ice-cream pronto!
It also works well with any type of berry, strawberries or blackberries especially.
If the berries aren’t quite in season or flavorful an easy cheat is to add a dab of black raspberry jam to thicken the sauce and add sweetness and flavor intensity. It also makes a great marinade for a pork roast done in the crock pot.
Question for you, SmokeyToes – black raspberry jam is my favorite, and I can’t find it anywhere! Any hints?
A cherry pitter was definitely worth the investment for me. Works for olives, too.
It’s one of those kitchen gadgets that I don’t use very often (like the asparagus steamer I finally broke down and bought), but has no happy substitute. And a pitter doesn’t take up as much room!
AnnE, how about Target.com? Link is below.
https://www.target.com/p/smucker-s-174-seedless-blackberry-jam-18oz/-/A-13276096
Can I come live with you? I’ll clean if you cook lol.
sure, just don’t expect me to make fresh scones for breakfast every morning..just once a week
Sure! The more the merrier.
But you have to like fuzzy Maine Coon cats, I have two, SmokeyToes and Gino.
And don’t turn your back on your lunch if Gino is around – he will steal it!
Seville A L’Aube today. Thankfully it’s pretty cloudy outside, but I love this one in the heat too.
Sadly my L’artisan collection doesn’t have anything to match the poll picture but I’ve got something else in mind.
Have a great one, all!
I am looking for what could match for tomorrow
Me too, I actually have no plan despite being the one who picked the picture, LOL…
Your comment below on YSL has planted an idea in my head for tomorrow…although the fragrance I am thinking of is from the early 2000s-LOL!
I don’t think that matters, although my original thinking was that I needed a 1960s fragrance.
I’m doing something very modern and very niche!
I’m thinking of wearing Ralph Lauren Pure Turquoise to go with the main colors in the picture and the humid/rain and heat weather we’re supposed to get tomorrow. Also work is doing a bra fit / semiannual sale and that scent shouldn’t be too offensive to clients. I don’t know why I’m even concerned, the store also sells some Isabel Toledo perfumes (Edp) and they are fairly strong!
Going to be trying out Boucheron Vanille de Zanzibar shortly.
Also, I secured a bottle of the new Iris Ganache which has pushed me over my perfume budget for this year and we’re not even into July yet. I hadn’t planned on this purchase back in January and I’m not sure how long they’ll keep the IG in production, so I only feel semi-guilty right now. Kind of like semi-sweet chocolate but with even less sugar.
How did I miss the boat with iris ganache?
Semi-guilty is manageable
Hi everyone! Dipped into my special occasion only stash and am wearing Iris Nazarena ( there seems to be alot of iris in the special occasion only stash lol) today is my birthday, a notable one at that. My big plans are to renew my car tags and birthday shop for my daughter’s birthday which is tomorrow. I took 3 days off in a row though, and will enjoy not working very much. Happy first day of summer!
Happy birthday to you, and to your daughter tomorrow! Iris Naz is worthy of a notable occasion; you smell great!
Thank you!
Happy birthday Lillyjo! The best for you today and always! Enjoy your day! You smell super fantastic! ????????????????
Thanks! I always think of you when I am wearing iris ????
You know how much I LOVE iris!????
Happy birthday and happy summer!
Happy summer!
Wishing you a happy and fragrant birthday!

Happy Birthday, lillyjo! 21 again?! Special perfume for a special person. Hope you enjoy your day and your daughter’s special day tomorrow.
Haha! And thank you!
Happy Birthday lillyjo!

Happy happy birthday, lillyjo! And to your daughter as well! I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy your time off.
Thanks! That’s the plan ????
Happy birthday to both of you
Thank you!
Happy Day! Happy Birthday!
Handing you a piece of my cherry dessert that I made yesterday ..
Graciously accepting
Happy, happy birthday Lillyjo and to your daughter. Best of luck in shopping and tags.
Thanks!
Happy Birthday lillyjo! I always take a day off for mine, and I think that this is the best way to make it even more special (if one can do it, of course). Enjoy your special day(s), and all the best wishes to you and your daughter!
Thank you, last year I worked, and hated it.
Happy birthday to you and your daughter!
Thanks!
Happy birthday, lillyjo! You smell great in Iris Nazarena!
Thanks! It is lovely.
Happy birthday! Do something fragrant and fun today!
Thanks, I did a little perfume looking at Nordstrom rack after I got my tags. Didn’t find anything though.
I don’t have much luck purchasing perfume at Ross or Nordstrom’s Rack.
Happy birthdays!
Thank you!
Lucky you! Your birthday is also the longest day of the year
Enjoy every minute!
Well, supposing you’re in the Northern Hemisphere
Yes, I try and enjoy every minute since the days will slowly start getting shorter, which I hate.
Happy Birthday!
Happiest of birthdays lilyjo! Wishing you a wonderful year and enjoy your extended time off! ????????
Happy birthday ????!
Happy Birthday, lillyjo! Hoping you and your daughter have a nice celebration. Maybe you can *just happen* to find a little giftie for yourself when you’re shopping for her. ????
Have a great year and I hope the day is full of joy
Happy Scented Birthday to you, lillyjo! And to your daughter tomorrow, if she decides that she wants to wear perfume on her special day! ????????????????
many happy returns of the day!
Thanks everyone!
Lillyjo, wishing you and your daughter a happy birthday. Enjoy your days off!
Wishing you and your daughter a very happy birthday! Enjoy your time off. You smell fantastic! And don’t forget to ‘treat yo-self’!
If you were here Lillyjo, you’d have your choice of homemade rice crispy bars with or without melted chocolate,or blackberry cobbler with two kinds of ice cream.
Happy Birthday.
Wearing JM Earl Grey and Cucumber today. Happy Longest/Shortest Day of the Year to you all, wherever you may be!
It’s a nice summer perfume, I will wear it again soon. You smell good!
Wearing Byredo’s La Tulipe in the oil format for moving day.
Good luck!
Good luck; hope all goes well with the move.
Good luck!
Good luck Hannahmom!
Positive thoughts headed your way!
Best of luck!
Here’s hoping it all goes swiftly and efficiently.
I haven’t tried the oil format but I enjoy wearing the regular perfume. You smell good! Stay cool and calm on that stress-prone day.
Hoping it all goes smoothly and you’re quickly settled in again!
Good luck!
I hope it goes well!
What a big day. Hope you can celebrate tonight
Fingers crossed that your move is a quick and easy one! ???? ????
Hope all goes well and your perfume boxes are opened soon!
I was running late and decided to wait until I got to the office to put on fragrance. I have samples in my drawer, and the only one that made sense was Acqua di Parma Colonia. This is my first time to wear it, and I like it. At least it seems just the thing for this hot, muggy, overcast morning.
Colonia is my little burst of happiness when I spray it on me
You smell great!
That’s a fabulous scent. Just gorgeous.
You smell wonderful!
Thanks for all the comments yesterday! I had a great time and enjoyed the day with my friends!
I am wearing AC Iris Rebelle. I didn’t love it much at the begging, but it is growing on me. Sadly, it does not last long.
Coffee and more coffee for the usual busy day! Happy Summer everyone!
I love Summer! And you smell great. The ACs never last on me, but so many of them are great while they’re there.
Thank you! Iris Rebelle is very weak in terms on longevity. However, Orange Sanguine and Cafe Tuberosa may last the whole day on me.
How about layering OS and IR?
Oh my! Never thought about it. It sounds good! Thanks for the suggestion. I will try that layering tomorrow!
You smell good! Have you tried spraying more liberally? Sometimes it does the trick.
I need coffee!
I had good 15 sprays of IR this morning, not only on skin, but on my clothes also. Unfortunately, it is gone after 2 hours. I need to lightly reapply during the day, not to bother anyone around me at the moment I overspray.
15 sprays?!?! WOW! There is no way I could ever do that!
I usually do it when I get very frustrated with a perfume I like and is very fleeting. Most of the times it happens with irises for spring-summer time.
You are after my heart as a generous over sprayer!
I’m lemming Orris Tattoo you mentioned earlier. I may just deserve it as my hubby is back from his very very expensive golf vacation. lol
You DESERVE it! That would be your “expensive perfume vacation” I have not ordered the sample yet (very busy), but I am almost sure a full bottle will be mine for my birthday at the end of the year. If you happen to try it before me, please let me know what you think about it.
Iris twins! Glad you had a great day yesterday!
Hi twin!
I was worried that your power had gone out, Robin. We had a MONSTER thunderstorm here in Portland this morning – luckily the power held through my blowdry and makeup application. Now if it would just go out before I have to leave (so the garage door won’t open), I’ll be set.
Testing Kyoto today, from a dabber sample. Mr. G and I agree: we may like it (emphasis on “may”). I’m wondering if it’s better sprayed – does anyone have experience there?
I think some of that series definitely need copious amounts of sprays to be fully experienced since they tend to be light. Kyoto is probably one of them.
Good to know – thanks! As I mentioned to AnnE below, STC sent a serendipitous email earlier today that I promptly took advantage of, so I’ll be trying Kyoto sprayed very soon.
I have no such excuse, just sleeping more than usual this week!
Glad you kept your power, sorry if your garage door opened
It did. Bummer, huh.
Wow, a thunderstorm! I missed them while I was there. I love thunderstorms if they’re not damaging, so I’m jealous.
I like Kyoto, but it took me a while to warm up to it. I try to spray lightly, actually; a friend over-sprayed it one day, and it was not good. Let me know if you would like a decant to spritz!
Ann! Are you not here anymore? Thank you so much for the decant offer – coincidentally (or maybe not!), STC sent an email today with a discount code for certain fragrance lines, one of which is CdG … so I promptly ordered a bigger sample of Kyoto from them. I can actually still smell it a bit, in my watch band area (I guess it doesn’t get rubbed off as quickly there), and it’s definitely one I want to explore further.
Not Ann but in case she does not see this, she’s back east! I met her and Ede when I was in Portland in 2016. I’ll be back at some point to visit since the bro lives there.
Thanks H! I had no idea she’d gone gallivanting off to the other coast.
Yeah, back in Beantown.
I haven’t ever tried Kyoto sprayed, but it did take me a while to warm up to it dabbed.
Today’s SOTD is vintage Opium extrait by YSL. I find the resins and spices so warm and comforting – one of my perfect comfort scents.
This has been a bumpy week at work, today’s my Friday and I’m so glad of it!
MMMMM………wow, extrait!
I had a backup bottle of the extrait and sold it a few years ago, silly me, what was I thinking!
You smell divine!
Ditto.
You must smell glorious in Opium extrait! And vintage, no less!
Jalapeno, Thanks! It’s a deep golden/amber color and oily in texture. I still am getting spicy remnants of it.
Bvlgari Omnia, the original, is on deck today. Blind bought a couple weeks ago and have worn little else since. The chai spices never overwhelm, are kept light, refreshing, yet warm. Somehow it manages to be perfectly wearable in the summer heat. Buying back ups. Seems to have been discontinued? If so, what a loss. To me, it’s the best of the entire Omnia line.
I do love this one, this one has saffron in the notes, if I remember correctly – you smell wonderful!!
Agree with you about Omnia! Hands-down the best one! You smell great!
Early in my perfumistahood, I bought a ton of spicy tea fragrances–couldn’t get enough of them! Omnia, for me, was the most approachable, “safe,” choice–for when I didn’t want it to be too too much. I also found that it always seemed to get lots of love from the men in my company. ????
Easily the best.
I adore Omnia – it is more than the sum of its parts.
Wearing a dab of PW Tea Rose on my left hand, a dab of Marni Rose on my right hand, dabs of Lolita Lempicka Fleur Defendue on my arms, all from my swap&freebie box from Kpaint
I love tea rose, it does not smell exactly like rose oil at all, as many reviewers say, I think it reminds me a lot of what crabtree & eveleyn rose smelled like, but it has been a long time since I smelled it. So good!
Marni Rose smells a lot like make-up to me, which I love, but I don’t see any reviews mentioning that.
You smell rose-tastic! Isn’t kpaint just the greatest.
PW Tea Rose is my “reference rose” perfume. I don’t often wear it, but when I need to smell rose, it scratches the itch perfectly. Dabbed is the way to go, when sprayed it goes on and on forever.
Yes, kpaint is the best! I hope her perfume gets to its final destination safely
Agree with you on the Tea Rose. Unfortunately, this type of rose perfume is always an instant headache for me.
Is that what it is? I’ve been scenting my post-shower oil with Tea Rose and to me it’s my idealized “bath” rose. I like it because it smells like a rose scent from my youth. I had a rose lotion I loved and I’ll bet it was C&E! Thanks for making the connection and glad you’re having fun with your box of goodies :))
Thank you! Btw, Is this EDT or EDP?
I am wearing Bvlgari au The Bleu and drinking my third cup of Darjeeling tea.
You smell great!
Yay for the summer solstice! Surprisingly we started the day off with nearly 30*C and now storm is brewing up and temperature went down to 20-ish.
I’m wearing Gin & Tonic Cologne from Art de Parfum.
Mmmm… Gin & Tonic… No-no-no, I should drink coffee and go to the office
Gin & Tonic afterwards
L’Eau de Kasaneka….as soon as I came to work someone told me that I smell like a million bucks (methinks I need to make a decant for her)
The best compliment! I haven’t smelled that one, but I’m sure you do!
I love perfume compliments :0
A work day that starts with a perfume compliment is a good day in my book – I hope it stays this way.
It’s the best way to start one’s workday
In No. 5 L’eau today. Surely that housewife in that picture had some Chanel in her closet…
Having an iced Americano and wrapping a few things up at the office while J and M (my son and his girlfriend as they will be called here lol) sleep in. I intend to leave at 11:00 and pick them up and get the weekend started! First order of business is some yummy New Mexican food!
yum Mexican food…
Enjoy their company!
The actual woman sounds more interesting than the image in the picture — for the image, yes, Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent would be my first picks.
Hope you all have a great time and eat fantastic things!
I read up on her and she sounded quite fascinating. Not the vapid nameless housewife I initially assumed was being depicted. I did some digging around to see if she had relationships with certain designers buy that doesn’t seem to have been her milleau – though I may have just not dug around enough.
Drooling over the thought of a batch of green chili, or something sauced Christmas style! Yum! ????
We had plenty of green chili today although I think more will be eaten tomorrow! And Christmas style is my fav!
FM Une Rose for the summer solstice. Plan to celebrate after work with a picnic with friends in Central Park. There will be tarot readings and some solstice rituals (and mosquitoes ????)-should be fun!
Should be a lovely evening.
What fun!
Sounds great! I hope there’s a drum circle or two, as well.
Not amongst our peeps, but I’m sure somewhere in the park. There always is… I used to go watch a regular Saturday large drum circle when I lived up near CP back in the 90s. It was great!
I’ve always wanted to do a tarot reading but whenever I’ve had the chance, I decide I don’t want to know.
Yeah, kind of like how I used to keep shaking the Magic 8 Ball until I got the answer I wanted, lol.
Lol, i still do that when i come across one
That sounds so cool. We have matariki here as it’s the Maori new year
Will you be doing the tarot readings, or having them done?
I don’t read, but my friend, who is a practicing pagan, and some of her cronies do the readings.
Good morning Y’all….
Wearing a sample of 4160 Tuesdays Eau My Soul. This is just soooooo cozy!!!
Eau My Soul sounds divine. I enjoyed reading about its creation over at the I Scent You a Day blog. Fun stuff.
Can you compare it to anything?
Hi Lillyjo! I wish my nose was better at separating notes, so I could compare it better to other things! On my skin, I definitely get the honey note (which is just like her Centrepiece scent), and I get the tobacco and quite a bit of sweetness. But I can’t really compare it to anything except the honey note in Centrepiece….Too many notes for my nose? LOL
Any other (better trained) noses have a thought?
Cristalle EDT because like KellyC said, I’m sure this housewife has some Chanel in her collection. I thought I sprayed liberally, but now at work I can barely smell myself. I have a big bottle of this, but I’m wondering how the EDP performs compared to EDT. Anyone have thoughts or preferences between the two?
I like the EdT better, but many people like the more floral, longer lasting EdP better. And the newer versions of the EdT aren’t like the old anyway
This is exactly the question that has been on my mind recently! I had a good size sample from Nordstrom – but I wasn’t sure if it was the EDT your EDP, it was probably the EDT since it was free
I’ve only tried the EdT and loved it. I should get a sniff of the EdP for sake of comparison.
Thanks all! I love how the EDT smells, it just does not project or last and it drives me nuts. Maybe I’ll put unscented lotion on my arms before I spray.
Or a carrier oil which is unscented like sweet almond or grapeseed oil…..
Happy solstice, and happy 25th birthday to the Jurassic Park movie this month! I’m not much older than the movie, and I remember watching it for the first time at a friend’s house when I was probably 5 or 6 (cause my parents wouldn’t let me watch it at home. Too scary, they thought!)
Was feeling some decision fatigue this morning, so I’m in Eau de Magnolia again.
Nice scent today.
You never know what kids can handle, it seems. My niece’s half-brother and sister watched Jaws with her when she was quite little (and parents were gone). She cried when they killed the shark.
Aww! You really don’t ever know. My sister has always been freaked out by ET – even as an adult.
Wearing Hyacinth and a Mechanic today. It is so cool, grey and drizzly that it feels like summer has been postponed indefinitely.
Ooh. You smell intriguing.
You smell great!
I’m still kicking myself for not going to Scent Bar when Andy Tauer was there with Hyacinth and a Mechanic.
For the solstice, wearing Sol/Sun by Ramon Molvizar that I bought a year ago in Barcelona (since this is the one less know perfume, here https://undina.com/2017/07/06/visiting-three-monarchies-part-4-perfumes-i-bought/ you can see pictures of my cat inspecting the new addition to my collection and read more about perfume itself).
Drinking Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee from the mini French press. Happy Summer (Winter) to everyone!
Oh my. LOVE Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee–has to be the smoothest, richest coffee bean I’ve ever had the pleasure to savor! It’s all the rich, earthy, syrup of Sumatra with none of the bitter bite. YUM! Now, I wish I had some . . .
Enjoy it!
Happy Solstice to you, too!
That coffee!
Wearing Atelier Vanille Insensee this morning, from the “meh” sample pile. Still feeling meh about it. I keep looking for an incense to love, but they’re all too dry and ascetic for me. My dad burned incense throughout my childhood, and I have fond memories of the fragrances of them, but I haven’t found a scent that is reminiscent or properly evocative . . . it’s always more churches and ashtrays and less drippy candles on the fireplace mantle and Creedence on the turntable.
Dragon’s Blood? Nag Champa? Any thoughts?
Nag champa is certainly closer to “drippy candles on the fireplace mantle and Creedence on the turntable”!
But most of the ones I have tried were too sweet for me. So I am waiting for answers to your question too.
Other things that came to mind: The Different Company Le 15, Paestum Rose, or one of the Aedes or Olivier Durbano variations on incense.
I think the only one on that list I’ve sniffed was Paestum Rose, and I fear I have no memory of it . . . I will make a note of the others. Thanks, Robin!
Diptyque’s Eau Duelle is a vanilla with an incense note. I like it better than Vanilla Insensee (though I do like VI as well) – it’s a bit drier. Maybe a sandalwood + incense scent would be closer to the mood you want?
I remember Eau Duelle as strictly vanilla, but I think I only sampled it as a little dabber . . . I wonder if the incense needed a heavier hand? Sandalwood is a good thought. I do like a few sandalwood frags–Champagne de Bois is lovely, but often TOO MUCH for me. And I have a bottle of Bois des Iles. Hmm. I know I sampled several formulations of Samsara, but I can’t recall going on a proper sandalwood hunt. . . might need to do explore that further. Thanks!
Sample shopping again…TF Sole di Positano. A good summery scent. I’m sure I’ll need to reapply throughout the day.
Was all geared up to make an attempt at a peach tart yesterday until I realized I missed recipe. Need more peaches…so back to WF I go.
Is it just me or is it very hard nowadays to find decent peaches? They’re often very disappointing and mealy.
Agree about peaches at the grocery store being lower quality. Never sweet and ripe and then suddenly moldy.
There is a window of a few weeks in my part of the world, when we can pick our own peaches. They are so superior, I can hardly get myself to buy them any other way anymore. I’ve canned them in years past, but it’s never quite as wonderful as fresh. . .
It’s sooo disappointing. I became a peach fan years ago when living in DC and got a lot of Georgia peaches. I ate a ton of them in the summer. The past few years I’ve eaten few peaches because I’ve had such bad experiences. I did well at CA farmers markets, but here in NYC I’m still finding consistency to be elusive.
CA farmers markets are magical. I sampled a grapefruit at a small market in San Luis Obispo a few months ago that blew my mind. Also bought a blood orange that smelled like actual perfume.
Zomg the SoCal farmers markets fresh avocados *faints*
I try not to buy grocery store fruit any time of year, myself. Except bananas ????
We get great peaches from a local CSA and we can also find them at farmer’s markets. Supermarket peaches are all picked too early these days for shipping and shelf stability. Same with nectarines — nectarines from the store don’t even taste like nectarines to me.
I will hit the farmers markets this summer. I’ll be heading back to CA soon and plan to overload on pluots…
Agree with everyone that good peaches have become scarce as hen’s teeth lately. It’s kind of sad, because when I do eat a good peach, I want MORE, dangit! ????
On the plus side, Mr. Jalapeno did bring home some excellent nectarines from Costco recently. They were so sweet and juicy that we had to eat them standing over the kitchen sink! Not sure we will get lucky again, though.
SotD = Eau des Merveilles
EdM, it’s my little zing of wonderful to start the day.
Happy solstice! Anyone notice an uptick in anxiety or other mental health concerns? I’m super tired today. Reach out if you need help, share if you feel comfortable.
Amazing photo up top of this post. NASA has some great ones. The Big Blue Marble is one of my favorites, it’s a classic.
https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap030426.html
Reminds me of a favorite song I like to sing with Kindergarten students, We All Live Together:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_9uZnzf7eM
Together every day!
Ding ding ding…yep, just sprayed on Eau Claire des Merveilles and now we are cousins.
Does the solstice cause anxiety?
Hurray for being scent cousins! I had a feeling we might match today.
Some people think both the summer and winter solstices can affect mood and ramp up anxiety and other mental health issues. I’m not sure myself, but there could be a connection. We are made of stardust after all.
I suppose that today makes me somewhat anxious because I know the sunlight will start decreasing. The winter solstice perks me up, because I have the longer days to look forward to. I just hate winter so much. I get tired of saying it, but it’s true.
I am with you, lillyjo…..I really NEED to move south……
Agree with both lillyjo and cm8, winter is hard. I am grateful to live in a southern climate again.
Same!
PSA: Ebay has 15% off today with coupon psupersummer. I just used it.
to buy…??? LOL!
Sorry! 15 dollars off on purchases $75 dollars or over.
No what I meant was what did YOU buy perfume wise
Nothing perfume wise ????. I sat very hard on my hands. Almost broke them ????????????
Ha!!! You are good

I am pretty proud of myself because I did not succumb to buying a back up bottle of Tibetan Mountain Temple…I have one full bottle and another bottle that is maybe 1/4 full which I have promised to a perfumista friend…thought about getting a back up but I won’t….I have to keep in mind that throughout my lifetime many many many perfumes that I loved were discontinued or reformulated and I have always found new ones to love….if I keep reminding myself of this I can over come the itch to purchase
I really need to ADORE a perfume in order to get a BUB. I have only few. Every time I think how much perfume I have, any need of a replacement goes away. I have been behaving pretty well this year. I am thinking of a fb of anything I would really love to buy for my birthday in November.
That’s a very good way of looking at it. I am fairly certain I don’t have BUBs of anything although the perfume bottles are floating all over my house so it is often hard to keep track.
A purchase once or twice a year for special occasion is an excellent idea.
Solstice!
1) SOTD: Jasmin (Molinard) after a shower in Red Roses Soap. Perfect for the very hot and humid weather we have!
2) Thunderstorms and showers this morning, cooling off the metro area a bit. But I am still gonna celebrate the solstice with a beer party at my house.
Your dedication to the Molinard Jasmine has had me eyeballing those beautiful purple bottles heavily discounted online…I am particularly drawn to the Musc (folks say it smells like nag champa) and the Amber one…have you tried any others besides the Jasmine?
I have! I got this bottle back when Anthropologie carried the linjasmine that e. The Vanille is sweet but fresh and the Amber is VERY pretty. Very good projection with all in the purple line, very clean with a white musk underpinning all. Jasmin is super clean, rosy and not overly sweet nor indolic- great for everyday. Layers beautifully.
Trying out Diptyque’s Oyedo for the longest day of the year. I love Diptyque AND I love summer citrus, so I thought this would a no-brainer, but I’m not feeling it. Smells kinda grape jelly-ish.
It is a weird one! I do love it though.
I wore that a ton one summer. I got loads of thyme with the citrus.
SOTD = Kilian Noir Aphrodisiaque
Because
https://boisdejasmin.com/2018/06/by-kilian-noir-aphrodisiaque-perfume-review.html
On hajusuuri’s Day Off last month, I did a quick drop by at the Kilian and the Parfums de Marly boutique as they were within spitting distance of the Whitney. I requested 2 samples from Kilian, one of which was Noir Aphrodisiaque. My wallet is now cursing this development…between what I wanted to explore further and the “validation” from BdJ, I am now lemming a bottle. Le sigh ????. Has anyone tried this? What do you think?
Let’s see, how do I associate this with BBH? Well, BBH has a contemplative look on her face. Maybe she’s thinking of the night to come…
For those who missed it yesterday as I posted really late, do go to yesterday’s SOTD thread to read all about Life-Changing Things (if you must know, it’s a not so new product I recently discovered – Clorox toilet wand cleaning system).
Hee hee! I was going to share that life changing thing comment with my teenage son who is the master toilet bowl cleaner in the house…he would definitely appreciate it
I would be curious to know what he thinks!
I own the Kilian…I think it’s great! You smell wonderful!
Thank you and oh oh.
I’ve always just used plastic handled dish brushes for toilet cleaning. The standard toilet brushes are too unwieldy for me.
Eeeks, the dish brushes are quite short!
8” from bristles….almost 12” overall. And I try to get my husband to take the lead….
I will send my son over to train him

Hi Hajusuuri, Here’s a planet-changing option for you to consider …less throwaway plastic waste.
This is exactly what I don’t want to use. I’ll have planet-changing moments via doing or not doing something else. Wait, I am doing that already (but could do more of course) – my commuting woes are from taking mass transit rather than driving which is a viable reasonable option.
I suspect the pigs (supplying the bristles) aren’t too keen on it either
LOL. I bet the pigs went on strike because the brush is out of stock.
Uh oh. I did read the BdJ review on Noir Aphrodisiaque, and now you are saying that you like it (a lot!!) too. Sounds dangerous to teh wallet!
It is!
I woke up feeling queasy so I needed something that I could cope with on a wonky stomach. Un Jardin sur le Nil it is. Wonderful, and not worn enough by me.
No tea today, sipping mineral water, but wonky stomach seems to have gone, so all is well.
Glad you’re feeling better!
Good to hear that your stomach has settled… being queasy sucks.
After the gym I sprayed Cedar Atlas but then there was a box from Sephora in the mail when I got home containing a sample of Pomelo Fizz. It required me to try it too. I like them both, not sure if I like them together.
Oops!
Dans tes Bras body butter and perfume today.
Those body butters are SO tempting!
Hello everyone, I bet I beat Robin at sleeping in this morning. I turned off my alarm at 9:30 and when I woke up it was 11:59! I can’t believe the cats were not meowing at me to hurry up and get out of bread and open some cans for them! I have become a night owl lately and stayed up late binge-watching DCI Banks on Amazon Prime. I am wearing some lavish splashes from a small sample of A Lab on Fire’s Paris*LA. The connection to the painting is tenuous but might work, since it’s the two cities meeting. A combination of lime, ginger, coriander, thyme–I know there are other notes including coca-cola and macaron–but I’m not picking them up. This is awfully nice and seems like a good painting for summer. Perhaps it’s complicated and adventurous enough for the BHH to be wearing. Perhaps I need a bottle of it?
should be, get out of “BED”, obviously… still on my first cup of coffee (Major Dickason’s Blend from Peet’s, my favourite).
Coffee twins!
Is DCI Banks the name of the show?
Yes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DCI_Banks
LOVE DCI BAnks…binged watched through it as well! Right now I am binge watching Ugly Betty…round 2
I’ll have to try that.
Update, two hours later–I’ve broken out in hives! Eek! It must be the perfume, as there’s nothing else unusual I’ve done or used or eaten. I took a Benadryl and washed off all areas that I applied perfume to. I guess there is NOT a full bottle of this in my future. Sad. It’s only the second time this has ever happened to me. The other was Spezie de Medici. Instant hives with that. I wish I knew what they both have so I could avoid it in future. Scary. If I go like this to meet up with my surgeon tomorrow I won’t be having any surgery soon.
Wow, you did beat me!
So sorry about your hives though. That really is scary.
Slept in quite late myself, today. I’ve been in Colorado all week for back to back work conferences. Just couldn’t get up for this morning’s session. I’m blaming the altitude or bad hotel sleep or something. Hanging out in the bar til 1am was just a coincidence ????. Sotd is Diptyque Lait Frais lotion, which is quite nice, both as a lotion and a very light scent. Happy solstice all!
That lotion sounds nice, based on the name.
Aren’t conferences mainly about networking and relationships rather than sessions?
Wearing No 19 today because I think it matches the minimalist character of the painting.
I was thinking of No.19 as well, it’s sort of aloof as is the picture.
Exactly!
Wearing Tea Olive from Hove. I’m glad I wore something gentle today as I’ve caused a huge fight with a coworker. It was over a situation where I felt strongly that I was doing the right thing, but didn’t handle it as well as I might have and it still feels awful to have someone furious with me.
You poor thing. I hope things improve quickly.
Ah, been there. Wishing you the best on navigating the aftermath.
Ugh.. I hate that feeling, where you know you weren’t your best self. Try to not beat yourself up to bad over it.
Bleah, workplace drama. I hope that things can settle down for you.
I wish I still had my small bottle of Shocking to match the pink . It’s pitch black and minus 1 here so there would be ice on top of the swimming pool …I think I will wear Dead of Winter as a nod to the solstice. Our prime minister gave birth to a girl yesterday and her partner is going to be the stay at home caregiver. We have a big rugby match between the all blacks and france this weekend so there will be a ton of blokes wandering around the place. And my son is going to a school formal…I think ‘formals’ are a fairly recent thing here with all that expectation of dressing up and wearing a suit. Makes me squirm a bit despite knowing it is going to be fun for him.
What is/was Shocking like?
I found it a bit too stifling to enjoy…there was just too much of it and not enough space/air for my taste. It was the perfume equivalent of someone pounding on the door.
Got a few of my boxes from out of storage since I moved yesterday and I’m so thrilled to have access to a big chunk of my perfume collection again. Wearing Freschiiissimo. Still a summer fave. Yay!
Congratulations on the move! Unpacking is so much better than packing, and that perfume retrieval sounds like the best part of all. Enjoy!!!!
Hurray for getting access to your perfumes!
SOTD is Md’O Oudh Osmanthus. Wanting to see if this will wear as well in the summer as it does in the winter, so we’ll see. Catching up to last week’s poll, since it’s at the top of my FB wishlist right now.
Sleeping late twins with Robin today! It started off grey and rainy for the first day of summer, so I didn’t want to get out of bed. Now it’s a sauna outside.
SOTD = L’Artisan Traversee du Bosphore EdP, from the sample stash, and a generous NSTer. This has a mouth-watering Turkish delight note in it to my nose. Yummy!
Finally home to Edinburgh, arriving back this evening to perfect low summer night red-golden light, with the crags and Arthur’s seat and castle rock just glowing on the skyline–the sort of loveliness that stops you in your tracks.
A delayed flight, so mooched around the airport perfumes. Fortunately Terminal 5 at heathrow has a lot of interesting things to sniff. I managed to get a good generous smear of Cardamusc before the Hermes SA got to me…that’s nice but not over £10 per ml nice. Ouch! Happy to know that there’s somewhere to get Encens Mythique 20% cheaper than RRP though: the wee Guerlain kiosk had a pretty impressive range. More Amouage than I’ve seen anywhere in ages. Got a whiff of the Chanel eaux, but was not thrilled by them.
“the sort of loveliness that stops you in your tracks”…one day I will get to Scotland….Mr. CM8 is part Scottish so maybe I can talk him into it….and every time I hear/read Edinburgh I think of my all time favorite author Alexander McCall Smith.
I really hope you make it over here some day, madame marzipan!
I meant to try my new sample of Ananas Fizz today and never got around to it. Any fans?
I have a decant. I think it’s fun, in a spritz and enjoy it for a few hours sort of way!
Happy Almost Friday everyone. Very busy day today. And this week still isn’t over? It finally stormed a bit so it broke the heat but its humid as heck. I have just sprayed myself with lots of Heure Exquise.
Which Heure Exquise do you have, the EdP or EdT?
I have the edt.
Just curious… I like them both. Smelling great!
What are the differences that you notice between them?
