It's Almost-Friday and Almost-June! What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: at the beach in Parfums de Nicolaï Musc Monoï.
Reminder: on 6/1, wear something milky or creamy in honor of World Milk Day (and the start of Dairy Month).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Beach sounds great! I’m wearing Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze today, it has a lovely figgy cream note. Have a good day, all.
Oh, good call — I should have thought of that one for tomorrow!
You smell great Robin!
It’s a public holiday here in Poland today so I’m having a day off. It’s 30*C outside. I’m wearing Cedrat Enivrant by Atelier Cologne.
Fighting heat with a perfume.
Enjoy your day off!
A bit too hot
Fighting and winning… enjoy your day off.
Cedrat Enivrant was suitable
Thank you, and hope the day off is going well!
I’m off tomorrow too to celebrate International Children’s Day. I’m having 4 days of a weekend
I am wearing Chanel No 22 and drinking a cup of black tea. I love the picture, Robin. I can feel the sunshine from that blue sky 🙂
Oh, I love today’s pic too! Am SO not a beach person, but that’s beautiful.
I can feel it too — and just as well as there is zero sunshine here 🙂
SOTD is Jacomo Art Collection #08. It imitates the aroma of chai tea, so it has a milk note.
Speaking of tea scents, today I ordered a sample of Berdoues Assam of India. Though I will not get the cute bottle, I will finally try the perfume which you, Robin, enjoy so much. 🙂
I really like JAC #08 – it is one of my favorite tea fragrances. You smell great!
Great choice for a milky scent. That one was on my short list for tomorrow.
I hope you like it, but do understand it’s just a very basic thing and without the elephants, I do not see why any perfumista would care about it either way! (I can see why they’d wear it because it is fine — I would wear it regardless — but it would not be worth getting excited over)
It’s OK. I read the reviews before ordering a sample, so my expectations are reasonable, I think. I like the combination of tea and lemon and I am always curious about perfumes having these two notes. Besides, it’s getting hot here, so I guess I’ll enjoy it as a refreshing scent for hot weather. If not, there is always layering, using it to scent a bath, giving it away…
You will have to take my word for it that it just smells better sprayed from the elephant bottle!!
I’ll have to shut my eyes and imagine I spray from that bottle.
Glannys sephora has a mini travel for $25.00 IN the bottle design .34 oz. It is adorable too!! Maybe try this one? ( online only)
No affiliation.
Today’s SOTD is Roxana Illuminated Perfume’s GreenWitch – very mossy, salty and green.
That sounds lovely!
Cuir de Russia Chanel
Wow- you smell VERY impressive on a spring day!
Cuir de Russie Chanel*
In L’Artisan Premier Figuier Extreme. Green and milky fig scent perfect for the uncomfortable cloudy, muggy day we have here.
Looking forward for tomorrow desperately, since the last two days here at work have been insane. Crossing fingers I do not have to work this weekend…
Happy Thursday everyone!
Fingers extra crossed for you!
Thank you! Very needed! ????????
I love that scent, but hadn’t thought of it. Thanks for the idea!
I also love PFE, but so fleeting on me.
Not so many milky/creamy options for the humidy we have here. Most of what I have in that category are winter perfumes.
True, fig scents are probably the only milky scents for hot weather. I though about them too, but unfortunately the only ‘fig scent’ I currently have is AA Figue Iris (not much fig, not creamy or milky at all), so I had to pass this option.
Glannys, It might sound very strange, but I never heard of Figue Iris before! You know I am an iris obsessed and I am always looking to try any perfume with that note. At the same time I also love fig perfumes. The combination sounds very appealing to me. Can you please let me know a bit about that perfume?
(Could not reply to your comment below, so I am doing it here.)
AA Figue Iris = Guerlain Acqua Allegoria Figue – Iris. One of the earlier scents in Acqua Allegoria line, so no wonder that you do not know it.
As I said, I don’t get much fig here, it’s more like a dry fig leaf, I guess. (But some people can smell a lot of fig here, so maybe you will too.)
I only briefly tested it yesterday, and my impression was that Figue Iris is more about iris and violet. Powdery and ‘makeup-y’, a light sweet floral with some fruity and green notes. A pretty perfume in Guerlain style.
Should layer well with another Acqua Allegoria I have, Rosa Pop (a rose violet scent).
I hope this helps!
I misspelled the name of the line. Aqua Allegoria, not Acqua Allegoria.
Oh, and I just found out that Guerlain Promenade des Anglais, released in 2016, is supposed to be a reissue of discontinued Figue – Iris. I have not tried Promenade des Anglais, so I cannot compare them.
Thank you! I saw that Figue Iris was discontinued, but I definitely have to try Promenade des Anglais. To my sample list goes.
I’m crossing my fingers for you and your weekend, too! ???? I haven’t tried the PF Extreme, but definitely like Premier Figuier for the muggies.
Thank you!
I have not tried the original Premier Figuier, but I read that it is greener and the fig note is more pronounced than the PFE. I love green fragrances, so I eventually will get a sample to compare it.
You smell great! I may shamelessly copy you and wear that tomorrow.
I hope you have the weekend off! ????????
Thank you! You will smell fantastic tomorrow! PFE is such a great perfume.
Sorry you had a crazy few days. It’s been a weird one for me and a few friends.. I’m convinced it’s either seasonal or planetary and am trying not to take this week too personally myself.
Enjoy your weekend!
I agree it has been a weird week. So many unusual things happening, especially at work. I also feel very exhausted and I have worked just 2 days so far. I also want to believe it is seasonal or planetary.
Wearing Bottega Veneta. I was introduced to this scent by a generous NSTer, and I am now fully addicted.
Seriously, it has to be a top ten best ever perfume. You smell great!
Incredibly good for a department store scent, it’s in my permanent top ten. You smell fab!
You smell fantastic today!
SotD is Liqurice Vetiver by Sven Pritzkoleit
It works pretty good for me in this hot and humid weather.
It’s overcast and muggy here. I should be weeding the front flower beds but I do. not. feel. like it. I will play hooky, in four generous spritzes of Crown Perfumery Crown Bouquet, and pretend that I’ve just weeded.
I will be shutting down the sale of unloved fragrances on the blog tomorrow, so if you want one more shot at them, this is your last chance. 🙂 After this, they get shot over to eBay.
Jealous of your beach day, Robin. I’m in Philosykos edp today and it’s wonderful. It’s also quite creamy to me so hopefully I’m at least partially participating.
Thanks for the shampoo/conditioner recommendations yesterday. I have fine hair like several of you that commented and I was glad to get some new ones to try out!
Do not be jealous, the weather is crap and I spent all morning waiting for an appliance delivery 🙂
The delivery did happen, though?
Yes! And on time, and the appliance is working. So there are miracles out there, ha.
Been meaning to comment on the shampoo recs question: I like Wella Elements – I buy the big bottles of it at Ulta when they have their sales. However, I read a reddit post recently that pointed out that the how you apply conditioner maybe more important than which one – the big new takeaway for me was that you should only “drizzle rinse” your conditioner (after you’ve squished enough into your hair to make your strands feel like squishy noodles) rather than trying to wash it all out. It really helped me with my color treated hair, and I don’t feel it’s weighing my fine hair down either. Perhaps worth a try!
I feel just the opposite but I probably have thinner hair. I condition my hair first with a pea size amount, rinse my hair, then shampoo. Otherwise, I can’t use conditioner at all as it makes my hair flat with absolutely no body.
Thanks, I’m going to try that!
Post shower another day of Terracotta. This was a blind buy based on nsters comments and the price was reasonable.
I don’t like summer and summery scents, but this seems to fill the gap. Plus the bottle is very pretty.
One week left till new job starts and much to complete including late sleeping every day!
Sleeping late sounds so heavenly to me right now…enjoy the rest of your time off!
KellyC,
sleeping in is the best thing ever.
Well one of them.
Fingers crossed last job before retirement and then only alarms when I want them!
Wishing you a successful last job! Retirement is great.
Sounds like a fabulous plan!!
Congrats Aspara! Retirement sounds wonderful.
Wearing the last dregs from my dabber sample of Meraviglia-Re Note di Profumum. A perfume better suited for a hot day–a sort of soapy rose with a hint of carnation, maybe. Its a happy scent.
That sounds really nice. Soapy carnation and rose? Nice.
Emptied a vial of Montale Red Vetyver. It’s nice, but I like Terre d’Hermes a little bit more.
Good, since that is the one I already own 😉
SotD = 24 Faubourg EdT
I love this one dearly, but it seems to give me a headache if I spray more than once. It is a new-ish bottle, so I’m tempted to chase after vintage. Sigh.
Yesterday I stopped in to sniff at Sephora. Iris Rebelle is a super wonderful iris that reminds me of Hiris (yay!) but with enough white musk in the drydown (boo!) to make it a no for me. It averages out to “yay” since that’s one less bottle to covet.
Also wandered through Nordstrom and found Eau de Citron Noir. It has wonderful citrus and the spike-y smelling woody base many men’s colognes share. What is that? Guaiac? I tried and liked Eau d’Orange Verte.
There was a tester bottle of the nsfw Fabulous scent too. The profane part of the name was covered, but the boxes behind it were uncensored, LOL. Naughty, naughty Nordies!
It has been really interesting to see which stores cover and which don’t!
But everybody who thought this would never sell, you were wrong! And that includes me, since I thought it would never be in mainstream stores.
I had to laugh at your report from Nordies and the NSFW bottles out in the open!
Ok, i might be brain dead right now, but what bottled are you guys referring to?
—-ing Fabulous from Tom Ford
“It averages out to ‘yay’ “ . . . I like that sentiment! So true.
Currently having a bergamot spree with Frederic Malle Eau de Magnolia and a cup of Earl Grey.
Still deciding what I’m going to wear for the CP on Friday…
You smell wonderful!
Wheeeeeee my massive SSS order came in!!!! (Just two days after Laurie shipped it!) So I smell fantabulous in Equestrian 🙂 Hay and apples! It smells like it would go perfectly with a very ripe cheese. I’m so thrilled I got a chance to throw all my money at her. (Though I did get nine different perfumes for almost exactly the same amount of money I almost spent on a single bottle of Affinessence Santal Basmati when I was in Paris last month.)
I know I am not following the community project–a project I quite like, too! and I have Venenum, and a sample of Kulfi, either of which would be perfect for tomorrow!–but I will probably wear a new SSS treasure tomorrow, too.
So happy for you with your SSS haul! After you posted about being contacted back by her, I checked when I sent an email to her. It’s the same morning you did (which is probably the case for a bunch of us), so I’m still holding out hope that I’ll hear from her.
Yes, do hold out hope! I think it’s just taking her a while to get to the many many MANY e-mails she got 🙂 It sounds like she’s going to try to respond to everyone, even if it takes her a while!
Nice!! I already miss everything about SSS! Such a loss to the perfume community ????
Agreed. I’m still hoping someone else will take over the work. (Perhaps she could stay on as the nose? I have no idea how that would work.)
Wow. That’s great. Very jealous and happy for you.
Thanks, LizzieB 🙂 I’m really excited about it. If you managed to e-mail her when she was closing down her shop, hold out hope! She should respond to you eventually!
Oooh Equestrian sounds GOOD! Semi-related: one of my favorite smells of all time is the smell of freshly-picked apples. Still trying to find a perfume (or scented candle, perhaps?) that replicates that smell, but I admit it might be impossible.
Ooooh that would be a great candle. Yeah, I haven’t found that scent either. Have you tried Hermes’s Jardin sur le Toit? It isn’t freshly-picked apples, but, uh, it’s got a nice apple note.
Haven’t tried that one, but I’ll be on the lookout. Thanks! It’s tricky to find a good apple scent that doesn’t just smell like a Jolly Rancher. I think there’s an apple note in Herbal Essences Shine Collection shampoo that I really like, but I haven’t found a perfume that replicates that either.
Have you tried CB I Hate Perfume Gathering Apples?
It is a very nice apple scent .
That layering sounds delicious! Thank you! I will definitely try it!
Have you tried CB I Hate Perfume Gathering Apples? It is a straight fresh apple scent to me.
Oh! I saw Hannahmom already suggested it.
Try it with Jo Malone Sweet Cream. Smells fantastic
I meant to say that the hay is kind of manure-y. That’s why it would go so well with stinky cheese! Fresh, sweet-ish manure. The kind I smelled a LOT of on my long weekend up in Tomales Bay, which is full of dairy farms.
Wow, congrats! I didn’t know she still had inventory. Lucky you!
I don’t think she’ll have any left by the time she gets through everyone who e-mailed her in January >.< but thanks!! I do feel lucky!
Yay for your SSS haul coming in! Enjoy!
Thanks 🙂 I was tempted to bring my new travel sprays to work with me but worried I’d overload on the scents. Equestrian is now faint, but still smellable. (What’s a real word that means “smellable”? The olfactory version of “audible”? Olfactible?)
The word “inhaleable” came to mind, but I’m not sure it’s the right tone, or even if it is a real word.
Detectable? ????legible?
Happy day all!????I got in an order of soaps and scent samples from ZOMG smells. She does them on a variety of themes, some from science/ astronomy and fan creations. I’m trying the Nuremberg Pudding Incedent soap. It references the awesome Girl Genius web comic by the Foglio’s. ????I think it definitely fits the project this week milky creamy pudding with a sort of rich buttery slightly earthy gram cracker note. I’m really liking it. I’ll probably dab on some of the Bownian Motion and see how the chocolate note holds up.
Ok, this sounds adorable! I need to check them out.
Fun website! I love that she has soaps called ‘That Dream Where You’re Naked at School’ and ‘The Melancholy Death of Nikola Tesla’.
Yeah, I really like some of them:
Swift-Tuttle’s shiny butt and
Seagull eating a starfish are hilarious to me. ????And some like Barbaric splendor and Wrestling Tigers just sound so fantastical. ????
Thanks InkyFeathers!
Oh, thanks for the reviews on the ZOMG stuff! I’ve been curious about them for a few years now, but have not pulled the trigger on anything.
So far I quite like them. The Brownie-in-motion was deliciously chocolaty, fading into a soft powdery skin scent. Not a whole lot of longevity but loads of fun to wear during a workout or befor a shower. ????I think these will make great around-the-house scents for me, when I don’t feel like wearing something more expensive just to do chores in. Tomorrow I’m gonna try the Cheesecake Hunting Saddle. ????
I decided I needed some Au The Rouge today. In the past, I’ve often worn this one when I wanted something I really liked (but it had to be something that didn’t shout out too much to other people). Just noticed that the bottle is close to being empty, but I know I can get more from the local discounters, as I see it there a lot.
Wearing Black Rosette by Strange Invisible Perfume. SOTD for a third day in a row, but very appropriate for today since I’m still thinking about and digesting the Americans finale from last night.
You smell great Akimon!
Oh, crap (or YAY?) I tried to watch it last night but fell asleep. Rethinking and definitely YAY! At least I have one episode left. I am SO bummed it’s over 🙁 🙁 🙁
Hey Guys! Happy Thursday!
1) SOTD: Venetian Bergamont (TF) – perfect for this cool grey and green day! Too bad it is discontinued HOWEVER Cap Neroli I feel fits the gap – and is way more attainable.
2) My bank was absorbed by another bank and did not send out a new card, so my card expires at midnight tonight. Despite filling out a change of address form and receiving regular mail FROM the bank, the bank went ahead and sent the new card to old address. When I pointed out that I did what I was supposed to, I was told that I would have wait another 2 weeks for my card OR pay to have it expedited to me.
And yeah, new bank for me. This is not a promising way to treat a customer of 18 years after a merger*. GRRRR.
So I am think either the evil Bank of America which has branches galore and certain benefits OR a local credit union- with less branches, more fees but better service and better financial books.
This adulting business is for the birds.
Hate BoA!! Just my opinion, but go with the credit union, especially since you are not “on the road” all the time. I went with a very small bank from home and I’m still able to do everything pretty conveniently. I have an insurance reimbursment check coming that I can deposit via electronic banking and then send them the physical check. I don’t even have paper checks for bills. Everything is on-line, which I know some people don’t like but it’s essential for me. It’s nice to call my bank in Florida, have a human pick up the phone, and immediately get help should I need it.
The cu that I am looking at has online banking, lots of branches in the state and in PDX and a ton of financial products, which is VERY impressive indeed. I can do all my bills online and get auto deposit as well. And the fees are modest.
As an employee of a credit union, I will wholeheartedly yell CREDIT UNION! It looks like you have lots of options in Portland (I’m in Seattle). If you’re worried about not having enough branches look for a CU that is part of the CO-OP network and participates in shared branching. Shared branching means you can visit other credit union branches to transact as long as they’re in the network. And they’re all through the US so you can easily find free ATMs and even branches when you travel. It’s a pretty cool thing that I knew nothing about before I started working for a CU.
I am a member of a CU in Seattle that has a huge, nationwide network (including banking at 7-11, which I’ve never done, but is good to know.) It’s slightly less convenient than using one of the few mega banks that still exist, but I don’t get nickled & dimed to death. I admittedly harbor a lot of resentment toward the mega banks so would never use one, but I also really like and appreciate the Credit Union model, which has a totally different operational approach to banking for everyday folks.
1) I think 7-11 is owned by a Japanese company- so in Japan, a lot of 7-11 provide amazing services, include POS banking- so the 7-11 functions the way post offices used to in the USA. So it would not surprise me that CU systems had an agreement with 7-11.
2) The MegaCorp Banks play a important role in our society but they seem so wicked.
Yes, and having worked for a bank that is one of the ten largest in the US and now a credit union, a CU is so much better to work for.
We have quite a few CUs down here, which really shocked me. The one I am considering is one of the biggest in Oregon, with online banking and EVERYTHANG so I would not really really miss the services provided by my regional bank.
I too have a wariness about MegaCorp Banks; they fulfill an important purpose in our society BUT they also seem very wicked.
Oh yes. You need to find a new bank and let the old one know exactly why. That is inexcusable for them to want to charge you to expedite because of their mistake. I’ve had banks waive that fee as a matter of course.
But you do smell nice….
Oh, I really do like VB- way more than Neroli Portifino! It’s citrussy and warm.
And yeah- the response was a big “Whatever.” Not an auspicious way to start business as a merged bank!
Totally agree! Some days I really do not want to adult!!????
There are says where I just want to stay in bed and read comic books!
Another BOA hater here. Agree that a local CU is a much better choice and I think BOA fees are higher. At least in my area. Good luck!
Thank you! Am just wary about BofA business practices!
You’ll regret it. Just sayin’.
I have always had great service from BofA, hated the rinkey-dink credit union my husband uses and had me sign up for. I gave up on them and went back to BofA.
A lot of people DO like B of A AND there is a branch in my neighborhood. I am just wary of the business practices.
Another wholehearted vote for the credit union!!! I think BofA treats you just fine if you have plenty of money, but the credit union I’ve been with for the past sevenish years has always given me impeccable service, and yeah, when all the banks get criticized for their sketchy business practices, I get to sit back and feel superior.
Thank you! I am going to talk to the CU after work today!
Good morning all! I’m playing along today with CSP Matin Calin. I was digging around and found this long forgotten sample – must have been a swap freebie. I do like it but not sure if I want to wear it often – very sweet and a little buttery.
An old cult favorite! And one I never did try.
I was surprised to see it still for sale, even at Luckyscent! I though CSP was just trying every possible combination of vanilla + something else sweet 😉 Of course, I have Vanille Coco, one of the sweetest!
SOTD is CdG Grace Coddington, a very beautiful and yet fresh, not too heavy or weighty, rose scent, very kindly sent me by NST-er Nancyleandros. Thank you, my fellow Texan, for being so sweet! I just looked this up to read more about it and THAT BOTTLE!! All cat lovers MUST have it, and I’m going to order it ASAP! This is very smooth, so maybe kinda creamy in that sense, but I’ll try for something more truly milky tomorrow.
Love it!
You smell awesome!!
I need that bottle in my life! I like the scent, too. Easy, breezy rose…
You get an enablers pin from me! I ordered a sample during the Twisted Lily 20% off sale, and then turned around and bought the bottle.
It seems like you mentioned it a lot last summer, IIRC. ????
Did I? I don’t recall, but I’ll take the pin ????
That’s a very fresh rose and i think you smell lovely.
The bottle for CdG Grace is definitely a temptation! ????
I’m so glad you liked it! It doesn’t last that long, but is so easy to wear.
I’m in a single spritz of Eau de Crypt today. Would love to try others in this house because the quality and longevity of this one is amazeballs.
Robin, enjoy the beach! Pretty sure it’s mandatory that you have an adult beverage (or two) decorated with a lovely little umbrella…????
Eau de Crypt is Chypre Mousse right?
Yes! Sorry I forgot to clarify…????????♀️
No, I like the nickname. ????
Other Orizas I like are Reve d’Ossian, Horizon, Vetiver Royal Bourbon, Villa Lympia, and Royal Oeillet. There are still a bunch I haven’t tried.
ALL of those appeal to me! Can’t take credit for the name as I totally copied from someone else who really didn’t care for this perfume. Apparently, it can be polarizing but I’m part of the polarized population the LOVES it! ????
…OH, wow, I thought there was actually a perfume called Eau de Crypt and wondered what marketing division thought that was a sellable name.
With you on the love side: I’m a big fan of Chypre Mousse (which I have mentally tagged as “sheep mouse” rather than “eau de crypt”) and Reve d’Ossian.
Well, I am in good company then! ????
I am so old that I mostly drink vermouth, but I will stick an umbrella in it if it helps ????
I love your SOTD.
BTW, I saw your comment about Tauer les annees 25. Thanks!
I’m working on a Sultan Pasha Attars sample pack, so not wearing anything milky. I am somewhat obsessed with the idea of real oud and sandalwood these days. Not sure if I will actually get into that (the credit cards hope not) or if I just enjoy reading about it, but I am enjoying the SPA samples so far.
The only milky scents that come to mind are Frapin 1697, which is more of a winter scent, and L’AP Havana Vanille/Vanille Absolument, which does work well in warmer weather, although I would usually wear it in late summer/early fall.
I feel like one of the 4160 Tuesdays also had a milky note but can’t remember which one.
Now see that’s an example of why I don’t get the concept of milky scents. Why is Havana Vanille milky? I’m sincerely asking. That’s one I have, but wouldn’t have thought of. Is it something about that smooth vanilla aspect? In that case perhaps Anima Dulcis would also count? I’m trying to learn here. I can grasp “buttery” but not so much “milky.”
I guess it smells like slightly spicy vanilla ice cream to me. To me, there is definitely a milky note that, initially, I’m not sure I like, and it makes HV smell very different from other vanilla perfumes, to my nose.
I do ultimately appreciate HV very much in late summer when I’m tired of “fresh” scents and have a hard time finding anything I can stand to wear in the heat and humidity here.
The Frapin smells like spicy creme brulee and cognac to me.
But this is all totally subjective, of course.
I haven’t sniffed Anima Dulcis for a long time, but you could be right.
Oh! Thanks for this. I’d not considered vanilla ice cream notes.
Homage a l’homme today. I don’t know if I like (all of) it, but I keep coming back!
That’s enough to sell the bottle 🙂
I’m wearing Hot Cologne by Mugler today. I finally gave in to my coffee addiction and wore a coffee fragrance 😀
Aha, I forgot about that one and still need to try it!
Aroma M Geisha Green which is perfect for the grey, drizzly, cool-ish weather today. Deep, juicy, herbal (absinthe, anise) green. Smells like forest fairy juice!
I don’t ever recall smelling this. I need to do a Twisted Lily run!
TL doesn’t carry the line in the shop anymore! And doesn’t have the full line online. I actually got my samples from LS and from her own website when she had that sale.
Wearing Kelly Calèche today as I have an appointment at the bank to take over the accounts there. Then I’ll visit the other places.
Spent much of yesterday in a closet…partly fascinating, partly crazy. A bunch of old useless mail and calendars…my Dad kept all his old big, desk calendars (the kind that cover the desk surface) going back to 2001. Old medical records and virtually every MRI or X-ray he or my mom had done.
But, I also found an old satchel filled with memorabilia related to my Dad’s father. He died when my dad was 14 in mid 1942. I only knew that he was on a ship in the Persian Gulf as part of the WWII war effort – civilian contractor. He mysteriously disappeared from the ship one night. The satchel has letters and reports/accounts of the search and witnesses. He was in bed, then he was seen fully dressed at 1:15 am, then never seen again. My grandmother obviously tried very hard to find out what happened. His passport was returned…it was only good for certain countries (Iran, Iraq, India…) and for a limited time. There’s also a receipt for some cattle he bought in Montana in the 30’s and some other stuff I haven’t looked at yet. It’s really weird how he disappeared.
That’s very strange indeed. How sad for your grandmother. It sounds like a mystery novel waiting to be written.
wow, Lizzie B – you have some Ancestry.com work ahead of you.
What an incredible story. It sounds like something from Unsolved Mysteries.
This is fascinating. How neat, that you found these papers.
Wow, what a history! An amazing thing to discover! I’m sure the family was absolutely devastated by his disappearance. Did you know about this before the closet discovery?
Oh, wow. That gave me goosebumps. What a sad weight for your grandmother to carry.
Ditto what she said!
Oh my gosh, that’s a lot to uncover. What a burden for your family to carry. Enjoy the excavating.
I did know that he had disappeared but I didn’t know any real details. Or the actual location. The written accounts are a bit creepy because it’s just so odd. My grandmother was devastated, and I’m not quite sure she ever really recovered. They were comfortably well off, even through the depression. All that changed. It does make me sad…my Dad was an only child, so it was quite the burden. I’ve always wished I’d known my grandfather. He had such a pleasant face in photos. My sister also found letters he had written before he left…talking about the war and how difficult it was going to be.
Oh wow–what a heavy story to have in your family. If you ever learn anything more, I think we’d all like to know.
Fascinating!
My only regret after my Mom passed was that I did not have time to hear all the stories about my ancestral family. She was the last of that generation,so some info are lost forever.
I am trying to get my mom to answer some questions about our family history before it’s too late. Since she has dementia, it’s sort of hit or miss. She tells me there’s more information “in the boxes” which are all stored in her basement. I’ll have to see. Sometimes you don’t take advantage of these resources in time, and then it’s irreversible. Having seen friends go through that, you’d think I’d know better. (sigh)
Fascinating and sad at th same time!
What have you decided to do with the medical records? We’re deciding what to do with dad’s.
One of the bankers suggested Shredit.com. She also kindly said we could bring some to her, but I think that’s above and beyond. Although it won’t be that much….
Commando all morn. Putting on my new Orange Sanguine. Wore it all last wk-end. It’s gotten me interested in more orange scents. Never gave them much of a chance, but they do make sense in this Midwest heat.
Sounds like a perfect choice for this spring heatwave we’re having
a favorite Atelier!You smell lovely!
SOTD!Nobile 1942 Cafe Chantant.My bottle is almost drained!Cozy perfume on a cold day.It’s my favorite vanilla+black cherries gourmand.Delicious.
I had a question from one of my friends here on NST regarding the perfumed letters.
I know NST-ers are a bunch of SUPERGENEROUS guys and girls, but please do not feel the need to include samples or perfumes in the letter. Our postal services has become very unreliable, and restrictions are getting more strict on sending and receiving of “THE DANGEROUS GOODS”.Lol.But understandably so as well.So thank you for the kind thought and gesture, but rather just send me a good old fashioned,handwritten,sexy-smelling(haha!) letter!
Happy Thursday!
X
Please remind me what your email is! I didn’t get around to emailing you this weekend, but would still like to participate!
Of course!
It’s my nst username att icloud dott comms.
Looking fwd to hearing from you Kelly!
X
Oh, good…. mine is definitely going to be sexy smelling ????
Haha!
Awesomeness!
Can’t wait!✌????
Mmm Café Chantant sounds delicious. I’ve only tried 2 Nobile 1942s but I LOVE both of them.
I don’t see the brand mentioned often, but Cafe Chantant is definitely worth seeking out if you like soft and cozy gourmand-ish vanilla perfumes.
Plus black cherries of course.
Casta Diva is my other favorite from them.
Not to forget Pontevecchio W!Beautiful Iris-y perfume, and reminds me A LOT of Eluzabeth Arden Blue Grass.
Soft and cozy gourmand-ish vanilla plus black cherries sounds absolutely swoon-worthy! It can be challenging to find samples and decants of that line in the US, though.
Congrats on almost finishing off a bottle of perfume! I haven’t done that in ages… too many scented distractions for me.
Totally agreed!
I’ve been trying for years(!!!) to finish a 30ml Lush Orange Blossom…It’s like it’s replicating itself in that tiny little black bottle!Lol
I’m only going to wear a creamy perfume tomorrow because I’m still taking advantage of having an office all to myself. I’m in Areej le Dore Flux de Fleur, a spoil from the last swap meet. It’s strong and expensive smelling, rightly so. It starts off with a heavy fruity bubblegum vibe until we get into the middle phase an hour and a half in. I’m trying to decide if I should sample the rest of the line that’s currently available on Luckyscent. The sample are expensive, and I can’t imagine paying the price for a bottle if I end up liking one enough. Hmm.
I didn’t have time to check in yesterday because of a busy work day, but I was drooling over myself all day in Papillon Anubis. I was late to try this one and am completely enamored.
You absolutely MUST try Indult.
Eek that’s the one I’m most curious about but Luckyscent is sold out of samples. I put in a request to be emailed when they’re back in stock.
The Areej le Dore are so strong — I think my samples will last forever! The one that I did buy was the Wallimah attar directly from the Areej le Dore website (shipped from Thailand). The main reason was that the beautiful little bottle of attar happens to be the least expensive offering. The scent is beautiful, too.
SOTD + FM Carnal Flower
I had been thinking about this since Jalapeno mentioned wearing it on Tuesday, so here I am.
Carnal Flower is lush voluptuous white flowers – big fat airy tuberose and gardenia. The coconut makes it even creamier.
Commuting Woes No.430:
Never trust a guy wearing red suede shoes. I guess it’s really not NOT trust but I will categorize the guy as being ummm ummm high maintenance and has the male equivalent of B-itchy Resting Face. I stood right next to such a guy on a very crowded train and he insisted on resting his whole body against pole real estate. I don’t want to fall so I insisted on holding on to the pole and he went all pouty. Well tough luck for him! So he then decided to switch to lean against the pole on his left side but the train was really crowded so someone else’s hand was bothering him. Again, tough luck.
Manspreading
Ha!
Exactly.
Then again, as someone who suffers from a lot of physical pain, I can relate to needing something to lean on.
I typically equate Manspreading with taking up more than one seat.
I’ve encountered pole hogs here in DC, too, and one was just unbelievable — when I put my hand around the pole in order not to fall, he loudly asked me not to touch him!
Perhaps I should have said something first, but he was on the opposite side of the pole facing away from me — I would have had to tap him on the shoulder to get his attention, and asking him to remove his body from the pole would have called attention to his thoughtlessness, so I hadn’t though that was tactful, either. It was AM and the train was crowded so I just glowered at him.
I don’t get how anyone thinks hogging the pole is OK.
Words fail me with the rudeness!
Heh, that physical description sounds like Aaron Schlossberg.
I had to look him up as I only heard about the lawyer who went on a verbal rampage but did not catch his name. You are right!
Pole joggers and backpack wearers. A plague.
Yep, a pox on them!
I always take hold of the pole in this situation, with the pointiest knuckles I can muster.
Bring back spiky gauntlets!
LOL! I thought the same thing this morning. I also HAVE to keep adjusting the position of my hand to find a comfortable position.
Pole huggers, ugh. A woman was hugging the pole attached to my seat the other day and her large shoulder bag which was under her arm kept hitting me in the face. I told her twice and the 3rd time I pushed her bag out of my face. She shifted away but was still pole hugging! At least she didn’t give me attitude.
Well I mean that is just rude!!!
We have a new-ish bullet train between Johannesburg and Pretoria, and I must say it sometimes is an experience of note.how people behave!
I hate that! You could have gotten hurt!
Hello, scent twin! You smell great today. Hope that helps you deal with pole hugging jerks on the commute.
I should have worn nuclear levels!
We smell wonderful!
Yes we do!
I love that! Is it ok to spray a bit more on during your commute (in such a situation) to reach Nuclear Levels as and when required?
Mito edp. Perfection.
You’re right, it is perfection. I used up my decant long ago and would love to have more one day.
It is Perfection without any doubt. You smell fantastic!
Deva mentioned Bee’s Bliss yesterday so I decided to copy her. It is the most perfect honey scent ever. I’m surprised that a swarm of bees isn’t following in my wake. ????
Isn’t it great?! Totally pushed my boundaries by blind buying that one, but so happy I did. You smell gorgeous! ????
And you smell crypty? I mean you smell great! ????
I don’t have a lot of milky/creamy scents in my collection, but I’m wearing one today. I went with L’Artisan Tea for Two, which smells like a cup of chai with milk and honey.
Perfect!
Quite hot here today and I’m on day three of the tension headache. Just a few spritzes of SL L’Eau Froide.
Oof, sorry about the headache! I hope it goes away ASAP!
Ugh, how miserable. I’ve been there and some can be utterly impossible to get rid of. Hope yours takes a hike and fast.
Ugh. Here’s hoping it disappears soon.
Yuck. Hope that you are feeling better soon.
Hope the headache clears soon!Great perfume choice though!
I hope your headache leaves quickly!
Ouch. I hope it goes away soon!
Thank you all for the kind thoughts, it has receded a bit but still not gone. I am dealing with tax audit stress that is pushing my buttons.
Fracas! Not milky. But creamy? Oh, yes. …Also nuclear if over-sprayed. ????
Ah! I’ve always been a bit perplexed about Fracas’s reputation as nuclear and just realized I’ve never sprayed it – only dabbed. Perhaps that’s why I’ve never thought of it as a monstre.
It’s really lovely dabbed, isn’t it? When sprayed, it can get really big really quickly. I think I might’ve applied 2 spritzes at some point, but I usually go with just one on my chest.
I prefer Fracas nuclear…it’s just too good to have a too light hand!
You smell beautiful!
Thanks! I can see wearing more in cold weather, potentially, but just the thought of being heavy-handed with it in warm weather gives me a headache. But go on and rock a gorgeous Fracas meltdown if you feel like it!! I’ll just admire your cloud from outside the exclusion zone.????
I’m wearing Mousse au Café today. I smell like a latte.
I ate the first raspberry of the season off the vine this morning. From the look of things, there should be a bumper crop in a few weeks.
Raspberries right off the cane are SO delicious! Yum!
Oh wow, I’m so envious. I used to pick wild raspberries every spring as a kid. My friends got poison ivy but I never did. Then later on as an adult I caught poison ivy and it was the pits! Now I can’t go out berry-picking any more but just have to find some in the supermarket. I miss those days. These were black raspberries and my mom would make them into a crumble and it was SO delicious! (She always made me clean them first, though.)
I tested a couple of things early this a.m., one being TF Vert Boheme. Perplexing – while I did not try them side-by-side, it is essentially a carbon copy of Cristalle edp.
Moved on from that to No 19 Poudre – I love the opening but am not so much of a fan of the drydown. Sprayed myself down with LL L’Eau en Blanc once Poudre got to that part. It’s a nice combo. L’Eau en Blanc was one of those love-at-first-sniffs for me, but I’ve been wearing it a ton this spring and have developed an appreciation for it on a whole new level. It’s so easy to wear and always smells good and always works: day, night, warm, cold, evening out, doctor’s office, bedtime, etc.
We had unusually summery weather earlier this month that lasted for so long it was easy to be lulled into thinking it was here to stay. Not so. Back to usual June weather – cool, overcast, rain and wind likely. Too cold for sandals but I’m wearing them anyway. *sigh*
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow (!)
It’s Friday here already, and it’s June! I can’t believe how much of the year has passed already. I think that every year, but this year seems to be passing even more quickly than usual.
I don’t have much I think of as creamy, but if I move from creamy to delicious, Safran Troublant leaps to mind, so that is what I’ll be wearing today.
I agree that this year seems to be moving even faster than typical. I was just talking about this topic via email with a friend not too long ago. Nice to know that I’m not the only one who is feeling this way.
In a vintage Chanel 5, generous extra sample from the swap meet (thanks!). I put it on last night and swooned so went back to it again today – right now, I’m still waiting for it to calm down a little, I find the opening a little shrill. But the dry down….lovely!
Busy at work today, preparing for next weeks inventory. Sotd is Black Opium.
Ugh, inventory. It has to be done, but geez it is tedious!
No milky scents at all in my perfumed stash. I do have a few things with creamy notes, though, so that’s going to be what I go with tomorrow.
SOTD = Carnal Flower, for the third day in a row. So I am scent twins with Hajusuuri. However, I am starting to get the perfume fidgets, so I will definitely be in something different tomorrow.
Carnal Flower is gorgeous.
But I do find it to be a mood perfume;some days it works so well and I smell fantastic, other days it makes me high-strung and irritable.
Maybe it’s just me and CF is blameless, but funny how I noticed this esp with CF!
You do smell absolutely classy!
✌????
I think I see what you mean about CF being a mood perfume. That may be why it felt a little “off” for me today. Thanks for the perfume compliment!
Both you and hajusuuri inspired me. Post-shower and we are triplets!
Hiya, scent triplet!
Hey triplet!
Perfume fidgets…. ha! Totally get it
It totally describes what’s going on at the moment!
Hey twin!
Howdy!
Started out the day in CdG Wonderwood, so I could mark another sample finished for May. It’s nice, I liked it, but I don’t need a bottle or a decant of it.
I feel the same about Arquiste L’Etrog, from the leaky sample set. It’s a nice, summery citrus, but I have that category is well covered….and this one is pricey.
I was pretty sure it was my day off today when I woke this morning so I sprayed on some Goutal Heure Exquise on 1 forearm and some eau Hadrien on the other. Then I remembered that I had one more day to go. I was a bit worried but hopeful to fly under the radar today and luckily I did as no one commented ‘do you have perfume on?’
Goutals seem to be so well blended that I may be able to be light handed and get away with it for day-time at the office. Mine are vintage so the top notes may not be there making it easier to get away with.
In other news my hubby and I have started ‘tomato wars’ in our little garden area. He bought one he liked and I got one I liked tonight on our way home after work, both different varieties. He couldn’t wait for me to change into gardening clothes after work to help him plant it ‘properly’ so IT’S ON..
Now I’m in some Vol de Nuit EDT for my SOTE.
I would love to have real tomato plants. All I have is a tiny « patio tomato » plant the woman at the nursery said would work on my window box planter. I don’t have much confidence it will produce any actual edible tomatoes though.
As long as they get alot of sun and enough water plus some liquid fertilizer every other week or so (I like to alternate between 20/20/20 and Miracle Grow) you should be good; they are voracious feeders. They like a bit of depth for the roots as well.
Have fun. The only way I learned was trial and error????
I love that – Tomato Wars!
Sunday morning I woke up thinking it was Monday and I am going to be late for work. Imagine my delight that work was still 2 days away!
Best gift ever! ????
You’ve smelled absolutely perfect all day and evening!
