It's Memorial Day Weekend, and like many of you, I am taking the full three days off. I'll be back on Tuesday!
Meanwhile, our standard weekend open thread. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, any family member or friend you'd like to honor on Memorial Day, anything.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Where is everyone? I’ve been up on the west coast for hours!!! Wake Up!!
No perfume yet, but I am thinking about Mitsouko for some reason.
We had a really fantastic time at the Paul Simon concert last night (Ylang 49 because I know you, and only you, will care). His band is really wonderful and his voice is still going strong. The audience was going crazy. We were on the lowest level at Oracle Arena (home of the Warriors–so on the court I guess) but probably 30+ rows back from the stage. I forgot how much fun live music is. I am making a promise to myself to go to more shows.
I have a vintage bottle of Caleche I got off ebay. Anybody a Caleche afficiando that I can send a sample to and get your feedback?
Happy day all.
I wore Mitsouko the other day and I wondered if it was too..warm for late May but it was divine!
Ha — sorry, I slept very late! But so glad the Paul Simon concert was great fun.
I slept late today, too. A great start to the weekend. 🙂
So glad the concert went well. Happy weekend!
Glad the concert was great!
So glad you had fun seeing Paul Simon!
Glad to hear you had a great time!
So glad you enjoyed. Music to the soundtrack of our lives.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the concert!

I haven’t been to a concert in years but they are fun. Paul Simon must have been awesome. He has so many great songs.
Love Mitsouko but can’t imagine wearing it in summer heat. Maybe I’ll try it sometime.
Live music is great, glad you enjoyed it!
I adore Paul Simon! You’re very lucky to see him sing live. I’ve loved him ever since “Sounds of Silence.” Amazing how he’s changed and grown. Mitsouko is never a mistake!
Sweet and nice seats to boot! I love seeing live music and see lots of shows in clusters, it seems. I generally avoid arena shows because decent seats are out of the range of what I’m willing to spend and the cheap seats make me feel out of the action.
Wow, am I the first to post? The last few days have been hectic do I didn’t have a chance to post my SOTD. I did participate in the CP by wearing 31 Rue Cambon.
I started off today wearing Diorissmo but after it faded I switched to Cristalle. It’s been hot for the past few days anf these are my go to summer scents. Happy Memorial Day weekend to my fellow USers.
Very hot here too, Cristalle sounds perfect!
You smell perfect!
I hope you and everyone has a relaxing and peaceful Memorial Day weekend with time to read books. In the summer heat (We will be close to 100 degrees in Central Texas) I’ll be layering Hermes Rhubarb Esclarte with Armani Prive’s Vetiver Babylone. Separate these two are good (not great) but together amazing!
That sounds great!
Time to read books is always wonderful. And 100 degree weather is the perfect excuse for staying in. What are you reading?
I’m reading non-fiction, The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman. It’s about the events leading up to WWI. If you like non-fic or history I highly recommend it. What are you reading?
This is a great, great book. I think she took home a pulitzer or national book award.
A Fire in the Lake or any book by Bernard Fall will do the same for leading up to American involvement in Viet Nam.
I am just starting Swing Time, by Zadie Smith.
I have one (the Rhubarb) but not the other, and I think I’ll apply many sprays Rhubarb and feel tart and fresh. And then I’ll think about Armani Privés Vetiver. Thank you. (Only in the 80s and no sun in western New York.)
It’s hot here in Houston, too. Stay cool and hydrated! ????
My quiet weekend is all about reading and knitting on a sweater project.
I borrowed a library copy of “Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies I’ve Loved.” Have to finish before it is due to go to the next person on the waiting list.
Wouldn’t it be cool if there were a perfume lending library? My mum has happy memories of her childhood community library. They had a toy lending program. 😀
That book sounds like something I would like to read. As for a perfume lending library, sounds good in theory, but the truth is people would just wreck it. I feel bad about being cynical, but it comes from experience.
We DO have a perfume lending library! It’s called freebie-meet and swap-meet! And there are many, many times that people “lend” decants outside of those official meets because there are just really nice people here. ????
Truth! 😀
So true! ????
+1 to this!
As Nancyleandros said, we’re also expected to get up that high or close to it today in Houston. I suppose I’m lucky to be stuck indoors. I am not familiar with either of the fragrances you’re layering but really want to find and try some of that rhubarb one. Maybe this is the start of a plan to take advantage of Luckyscent’s free shipping deal this weekend.
Calypso, I have a FB of the Rhubarbe Ecarlate and would love to share some with you. I still have your address from the splitmeet.
Also FYI, if you use the code ‘NST’, you can get free shipping anytime on Luckyscent. I haven’t tried it myself in a few months, but I’m pretty sure it’s an ongoing thing.
Hey, wow, great on both counts! Thank you! Do you want something in exchange?–, how about a bit of Zoologist Moth? when I’m able to get out, that is.
Oh, please don’t worry about anything in exchange; you have so much going on right now! I’ll drop it in the mail on Tuesday. ????
Plus, it turns out Luckyscent doesn’t carry Hermes.
Ahh…Houston summers! I grew up in Pearland. I miss the 3pm thunderstorm.
And don’t forget about that lovely rush of humidity that happens soon after!
I was up quite late reading Lucy Worsley’s Jane Austen at Home, which is about as relaxing as you can get 🙂
Isn’t that a great book!! I loved it.
Yes, very entertaining!
I missed this book and just looked it up. The first three chapters are available on Google Books free, and I have ice cream. My Saturday just got real!
Oh yay! I am finding it very enjoyable, and I had already read a number of biographies about JA but I’m still learning things.
YIKES! It is 59 degrees in Oakland. I’m in a sweater!!
Found a brand new vintage bottle of Ungaro Diva EdT yesterday, so I’m wearing that. I’m a strong believer in fighting fire with fire, so when it’s hot….
Have a great weekend all!
Jealous of your hot, it is not even warm here today. Boo.
Hi! I have just finished the book In the distance recommended by you, one of the best books ever! If your friend from the bookstore recommends any other books, please let me know. Thank you!
Have a great weekend everyone! I am enjoying the beauty that is Zeta today. It is one of numerous discontinued beauties I have and I must remind myself not to hoard, but enjoy them.
Use it while you can 🙂
Enjoy your public holiday, you perfume folks in the US.
Next week I’m only working 3 days – Thursday is a holiday in Poland and I took 1st of June off to celebrate International Children’s Day.
Today I’m wearing Prada Nue au Soleil. Just patchouli and orange blossom oficially in this one. It has a lovely warmth and radiance.
Happy weekend!
Loved the Chemist in the Bottle review of Cap Neroli, lucasai! Sounds perfect for warm weather.
Thank you
I’m in Arquiste Aleksandr, from the Citrus & Woods discovery set. I ‘discovered’ this morning the atomizers have been evaporating at an alarming rate, so I will be speed testing them over the next few days and then decanting them. This set was not cheap. I am not pleased. ????
Anyway, the perfume is nice…leather, some amber and citrus. Rather masculine for me. Not the best choice for our weather (its 97 degrees out there), so I’ll just stay inside.
I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!
That’s terrible they’ve evaporated so much! Are their any others in the set that you’ve liked?
I love Anima Dulcis, and actually have a FB of it. It is a winter scent, for sure…cinnamon, chile, chocolate and vanilla.
L’Etrog is a citrusy vetiver thing, but I don’t really remember much else about it. Looks like I have my testing schedule set for the weekend!
The other samples are The Architects Club and L’Etrog Acqua, neither of which I’ve tried yet.
Oooh, I also have and love Anima Dulcis, but haven’t tried those others. I hope you’ll post what you think about them, once you try them.
Absolutely.
Started off with a rainy morning here, put on a few spritzes of Amouage Beloved to scrub the floors and the bathroom, because I’m fancy that way. 🙂 After my shower and baking up a loaf of bread I am in Dries van Noten. Next up, banana nut muffins!
Wow, impressed by the food production! I am about to make a batch of baked oatmeal and that will probably be it for me for the weekend, because I’m lazy that way 🙂
Hey, I call that industrious. You’ve made breakfast for the whole week! ????
That is hilarious. I’ve been eking out my sample’s dregs of Beloved–I would have worn it last night, but I didn’t want to “waste” it in a coliseum packed with humanity and the occasional spliff. I love that you are throwing caution to the wind and cleaning your bathroom in high fragrance style!!!
Okay, I have to admit something. I had to google ‘spliff’, and busted out laughing. I had no idea there was slang for marijuana that I had not heard. Grew up in the 70’s and all…
I have wondered if ‘spliff’ was regional — I did not hear it until I was long an adult.
My husband was born and raised in Scotland, and a lot of his slang has rubbed off on me at this point. We were dating for some time before I finally asked him what was a “sarnie.” He loved his sarnie, wanted me to have a sarnie, recommended we stop for a sarnie–all of which I tactfully declined until I knew him better. It didn’t help that “sarnie” seemed to be interchangeable with “butty.”
Not sure if I was disappointed or relieved to discover that both words mean “sandwich”!
That’s a cute story, Oakland!
Great story! 🙂
That’s hilarious! Perhaps be glad he didn’t use the even more confusing Scottish term for a sarnie, and offer you a “piece” or tell you how much he wanted a piece…
Excellent!!

Aww, tiffanie, sorry you are sick! I hope you feel better post haste!
One of your many special qualities: you always stay upbeat and find some humor in your situation.
Take care.
thanks, Nancyleandros! I’m looking forward to a weekend with my bff’s nyquil and netflix. 😀
Oh no, not fair to be sick on a holiday weekend! Hope you have some great stuff to watch on netflix.
my goal is to be well by Monday! 😀
Hope you feel better soon.
thanks, lillyjo, I’m feeling better this evening.
A haiku for Tiffanie:
They say laughter is
The best medicine, because
They don’t have the flu!
Love it!
that’s perfect! and very true. 😉
Feel better soon!
thanks, KellyC! Everyone gets a turn, and I guess it’s mine.
I need to make a copy of that poem. Thank goodness for Netflix – recommendations always appreciated. Hope you recover quickly.
I love Robert Frost’s words. I think he originally wrote it more like “the best way out is always through.”
I’m watching The Office. It’s been so long that they feel almost new again.
Oh, booo! But love your ability to turn yuckiness into poetry ???? Hope you feel better soon!
aw, thanks Elisa P! After a long afternoon nap I have hope I’ve turned the corner.
wishing you a speedy recovery!
thanks, E!
I hope you are feeling better today and can enjoy the rest of the weekend.
hi pl67, I do feel better today, especially after my second nap of the weekend. 😀
So, how are you today? I would recommend switching to Dayqil during the day – unless your plan is to half-sleep through the Netflix show and be able to watch it again soon 😉
Get better!
ha! yes, you are right, Undina. I kept falling asleep sitting up with my knitting in my hands and the TV on. Today I’m nyquil-free and feeling so-so to almost good. 🙂
Glad you are feeling a bit better!
thanks, cazaubon, all the positive encouragement from NSTers has helped. 🙂
Hope you’re at 100% tomorrow!
thanks, hajusuuri, I’m feeling about 80% tonight, so Monday should be a-ok. 😀
Fingers crossed that you are feeling much better today, tiffanie! ????
my fingers are crossed, too, Jalapeno. So far the crossed fingers (plus echinacea, ginger, and turmeric tea) seem to be doing the trick.
Enjoy your Memorial Day!
SOTD = Rising Phoenix Sicilian Vanilla
I am coincidentally still on theme with yesrerday’s CP!
I’m off to a Memorial Day barbecue and looking forward to seeing friends I have not seen since January (not too long really).
I just got my sample of Parfums de Marly Delina EDP which I was excited to get so I can do a side x side with the Exclusif. I will eventually own one or the other.
Yesterday, I ended up getting Casmir (enabker’s pin to lillyjo) and a BUB of VC&A Bois d’ Iris all for the princely sum of $84 and change with a 37% off coupon. W00t!
Have a great Memoriak Day weekend everyone!
You have no idea how special I feel right now???? I’m very interested in hearing about your Delina comparison. I’ve seen a few reviews on YouTube, but I don’t really trust those due to so much sponsorship. Have a great day weekend!
Memorial Day BBQs? Someday in my future!!! For now its just the last weekend before finals…. At this very moment first son is working with his calculus tutor, and second son is putting together a power point for a research project on, of all things, coal shipments to Oakland. Both sons woke up grumpy. I’ll go find a cat to pet!
Have a great weekend! Enjoy the bbq with your friends!
Have a great time and please eat a hot dog for me!! I only eat them at bbqs, but haven’t had one since last summer.
How was the BBQ?
So how is the Sicilian vanilla? Also looking forward to hearing about Delina, haven’t had the chance to smell that one.
Happy long weekend, everyone. Everyone sounds like they smell great and it also sounds like classics are on the picnic menu, so after a long frenetic week, I’m going to dip into a little vintage Habanita to celebrate good days gone by.
Cheers!
Perfect!
I’m continuing with the bargain basement theme from my perfume choice yesterday (Casmir), and wearing Mauboussin Histoire d’Eau. The top notes might be a little off on my bottle, which is several years old, but five minutes in it’s a very wearable suede.
Have a happy break, Robin and happy Memorial Day to everyone.
Does anyone read Nez magazine? I am always tempted by it but without being able to preview a copy, and with the heavy postage it would cost around $60 which is A bit much of a gamble.
I have read it, bought one issue (in French). For whatever reason it didn’t really catch my interest, but it was only one issue. I wouldn’t mind trying another, in English this time, but it is pricey. The paper and graphic quality is very high, but I don’t save periodicals, so that’s not very important to me. YMMV.
Thanks
Working this weekend, but I took Monday off since the kids are off that day. Sotd is Cuir D’ Ange. Normally I would not be wearing Hermes, except for Galop, because I got to try that from a generous Nster, and love it. My Sephora only carries the EDMs and some of the Nils. None of those worked for me. Anyway, I ended up calling Hermes in NYC, and asking them if they could send me some samples of the ones I didn’t know. And they did! For free! They sent this one, and Rose Ikabana, and another one I can’t pronounce, and Twilly. Plus a very large catalog that doesn’t have prices and looks like a coffee table book. I feel so fancy right now, and am enjoying the CdA, but I think I still prefer Galop. I am really impressed by the customer service I received. Hope everyone has a great weekend ????
That is so fabulous! Congrats on your freebies, and you smell great in Cuir D’Ange.
Thank you!
That’s so great! Enjoy being fancy!
I totally am. Thanks!
I love all of those – I have a few samples because I took my Swiss friend with me to the boutique (in Switzerland) and they are very generous there too. Rose Ikebana and Cuir d’Ange are both favorites of mine.
Yeah, i was so surprised. I really expected for them to hang up on me.
You smell great.
Thank you!
Chanel could learn a thing or two from Hermés! You smell grand!????????
Oh gosh, I wouldn’t dare call Chanel! Dior… maybe
Wow, nice! They’ve always been pretty generous at their counter at Bergdorf’s when they have samples lying around.
Great job with getting your hands on some Hermes samples!
Thanks. I forget who, but someone here was talking about Rose Ikabana, and I just thought what the heck, and called their customer service number. The lady who answered was just so nice. I should add that Mugler customer service is also very accommodating, and say bon jour, which I just love , because I’m so classy ????
Hey, a lot of the scents you wear ARE classy!
Aww…. thanks, that really made my night!
After a long travel day yesterday I am happy to be back to my little desert oasis in New Mexico. Alabama will always be home but good grief, I did not realize how bad the humidity was until I left and went back. I felt like I was drowning all week. Bittersweet to leave my “baby” but I know he’s happy and doing well. I wore Assam of India most all week, including yesterday morning, thus did participate in the CP.
Funny story…my sis and I had several hours to kill in the Dallas airport so of course we went sniffing. She’s never been a perfume addict like me, but she sniffed so much and we talked about perfume and she picked out some stuff she liked (Candy, Violet Orchid, Tobacco Vanille are a few). She doesn’t have much expendable money for perfume but I think I could definitely drag her down the rabbit hole by giving her decants and samples lol. Anyway, we left with a few sprays on us of various juices and when we went to board, as we presented our boarding passes and went through the gate, he gate agent (sincerely) said, “wow, someone smells good!” Haha my sis got such a kick out of that.
I haven’t sprayed today but I’m thinking Orange Sanguine or Eau Sauvage for a cookout later this evening.
Have a great long weekend, friends!
Eau Sauvage is fabulous. I hear you on the humidity….can’t abide it.
Hey, raising a kid who is happy and doing well is a dream come true! Good job lady!
Now imagine moving from the desert to someplace with humidity! ????
Humidity does suck, but it’s still better than wind chill!
Weather is good here this weekend, sunny and warm (30 degrees Celcius)
☀️
SotD was Vetiver Extraordinaire.
Switching to Safari right now.
Happy weekend everyone!
You stole our good weather 😉
I’m in Vetiver Tonka (thanks to the swap meet – a generous extra that came my way) and I like it, but I’m really excited for the mailman because my decant of Lavandes Trianon is likely arriving today! I’ve only sniffed this on one of those fancy bottle stopper sniffer things after an evening of sniffing my way through a Nordstrom, but I have high hopes.
Hope it got there, and hope you loved it!
Lazy, cool morning in Nor Cal. About to pop in shower and will likely spray on Kelly Calèche. Shower soap is a very nice orange blossom from Cost Plus.
Showering late because I couldn’t tear myself away from the library book I borrowed this morning. Latest Daniel Silva (Gabriel Allon) book. Very tense.
Reading and also checking the football score from Wembley. My husband said he was sobbing….so happy for his team, Fulham. He was a wreck. Just heard from him….he’s now sitting in Tompkins Square listening to some punk band while minding friends’ one-year old son.
Changed my mind. Stella. Just wanted pleasant floral.
It is finally warm and gloriously sunny here in Jackson Hole so I’m going to ride my bike the 12 miles out to Teton village tonight to work. I’ve been testing Le labo iris 39 all morning and i think it’s going to be my scent of the evening. It reminds me a lot of cuir de Lancôme.
Enjoy the ride. That sounds wonderful. And you smell great!
Is the bike ride a scenic commute? It sounds great!
Weirdly overcast and “chilly” after a sunny, warm week here in the lovely PNW. So, I am wearing Ambrosine, which is cozy without being too heavy for spring.
This weekend I will bake May birthday cake #3–this one for the wonderful Mr. Spicebomb. I will make Devil’s food cake with stabilized whip cream for filling and mocha frosting. (He specifically requested chocolate-covered espresso beans in the decoration.) Sounds yummy! Of course, this is the only cake that will stay in our home (the other two were distributed to the birthday-persons in question). I look forward to enjoying it all week!
Happy birthday to Mr. Spicebomb, the cake sounds yummy! How do you stabilize whipped cream?
Thank you! Stabilized whip cream is cream with a little dissolved, unflavored gelatin stirred in. (I use the recipe from Joy of Cooking.) I’m standing over the cookbook as we speak, tempted to go with MOCHA stabilized cream, and wondering if that would be overkill or fabulous. . . ????
Oh, and should note that the advantage to stabilizing it is, perhaps apparently, to make it hold up better as a filling. The goal is to have it stay fluffy and to reduce weeping. It’s a good trick!
Mmm, the mocha sounds good!
That does sound delish and right up my alley! Happy bday Mr. Spicebomb ????
Thanks! I will pass on the well-wishes.????
Happy birthday to your Mr. Spicebomb, and if you are still taking votes on the flavor of your whipped cream, I’d say mocha sounds fantastic!
Thanks, Jalepeno! Your vote pushed me over the deciding line! Mocha whipped cream it is.
I’m happy to see Mr. Spicebomb is still wonderful. ☺
Thank you, Poodle! Our 1-year wedding anniversary (5 years actual time together anniversary) is coming up! It’s hard to believe! Can’t hardly remember my life before him except for snippets of awkward blind dates somewhere in the foggy past. . . ????
LUCKY MAN! Seriously, that sounds delicious. Hope he had a great birthday.
Taking a leaf from the book of some folks demonstrating impeccable fragrance acumen yesterday, I’m in PG Indochine today.
And you smell wonderful!
Hello everyone! I was actually able to cut the grass today. I’ve been working hard all spring trying to repair all the damage the greyhound did. Put up more fencing, seeded, watered, waited. He is con
This tablet sucks.
He is contained to one area of the yard. Much better for all of us.
I’m wearing Aura because the bottle looks like my new geeen grass.
How do you like Aura? I haven’t sniffed it yet.
I like it but I find it to be light on me unlike other Mugler scents. It smells a bit green and it’s also sweet. I like it but I really love the bottle.
I have 3 greys, and have given up trying to contain the damage. On the plus side, I get a lot of very good snuggles. 😛
He tends to snuggle with hubby. I get the poodle snuggles.
If he wasn’t a menace I’d find another way but I had to stop him from being able to gain speed. Last spring and summer he ran through a bush a ripped himself open. Twice. Thirteen stitches the first time, 14 the second. He had other minor injuries too but I could treat them myself. Speed is dangerous for him.
Hello Poodle! Good to hear from you!
Good to be here. I’ve lurked a bit but clearly not enough to keep up with everyone’s activities. I’ve got some catching up to do. Its been a tough couple of years.
I hope things are on the upswing for you. Nice to see you again!
Monserrat for me on this hot day which was also my birthday! I was pretty unfazed this year. Spent the early part of today with some fellow cat colony peeps at a local bookstore-they do a monthly meetup and I’ve gone a couple of times. This bookstore is really neat-it is primarily food/cooking related books and they have a kitchen and eating area where they host a variety of themed food events, some pot-luck, others prepared by the young owner who is a cook.
My in-laws came over for dinner which my husband cooked. It was nice except my FIL hates cats and doesn’t hide it, getting a little too physical with my friendly hairless who thought it might be a good idea to try to sit on his lap. There was also a string of curses.
Going to a friend’s brunch in the early day tomorrow and then to another gathering later. I’ll keep the scent very light since that friend is a perfume-phobe. Like, literally afraid of it-thinks it’s toxic and will make her sick. Oddly, I’ve seen her use scented Burt’s Beeswax hand creams etc. Anyway, it’s her turf, so I’ll be respectful. Hope everyone has a pleasant, restful weekend!
Happy birthday! Sounds like a nice day…always nice when someone else cooks. Enjoy your brunch.
(Cats always know, don’t they….)
Thanks LizzieB! He enjoys cooking and does most of it.
Yeah, my cat kept trying with him-I guess she didn’t get the memo.
Oh, she got the memo. It’s the memo all cats share with the name of cat despisers…so they know who to target.
Hey, happy birthday! It sounds like you have a great weekend planned – have fun!
A bookstore that specializes in cookbooks, and it has a kitchen?!? Now that’s my kinda place. ????????
Thanks Nancyleandros!
Yeah, it’s a pretty cool place. Used to live down the block from it and never went in until recently. They do a lot of veg/vegan, too.
Happy birthday!
I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.
Thanks Glannys!
Happy Birthday!
Many thanks lillyjo! Hope your work weekend is gentle.
Happy birthday Elisa!
Thanks c!
Happy birthday a day late! Hope you have a fun and well-fragranced weekend!
Thanks! I wore Ouarzazate today since it’s under the radar.
Happy belated birthday Elisa! Your day yesterday and your plans for today sound wonderful. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Hope you do not have to work tomorrow.
Thank you pl67! I enjoyed yesterday and today’s activities. I don’t have to work and am looking forward to having no plans! I hope your mother is doing better.
Happy Birthday! Who couldn’t love a hairless kitty?! I have plenty of room on my lap for any four legged who needs it. ????
Hard for me to fathom how someone couldn’t love her, but she’d be happy to hang in your lap ????
Happy birthday to you!
Many thanks Kanuka!
Happy belated birthday! I hope you enjoyed it yesterday.
Thanks Undina! I did.
Oh Happy Birthday!!!! Hope you enjoy all of your gatherings! Hugs!
Thanks KellyC and hugs back!
Happy Birthday!
I’m curious about your hairless cat – did you get one because of allergies? My husband is very allergic to cats, and even though we probably won’t get one, I was curious what options, if any, there are.
Thanks!
We didn’t get her for that reason and I’m not sure if people with allergies are more tolerant to them since the protein that people are allergic to is found in the cat’s saliva and oil glands. But some people say they don’t have the same reaction to them, so who knows. But I do know they are sweet and adorable.
Happy belated Birthday, Elisa P! ???? ???? ???? I hope that you enjoy all your shindigs this weekend.
Thanks Jalapeno! I did but I’m a bit pooped now.
Happy Super-belated birthday!!
I hope you have a wonderfully fragrant year!!❤️❤️
Thank you johanob!
Happy Belated Birthday!
Thanks poodle and nice to see you and that bespectacled pooch. Missed that face!
Happy belated birthday Elisa! I hope you had a wonderful day! A husband who likes to cook. You’re a lucky girl!
Thanks Petunia! His mom was saying how proud she is that her 3 boys all like to cook.
hey, Elisa, hope your birthday was full of sweet moments. 😀
Thank you tiffanie! I had a lovely, full weekend. I’m looking forward to some quiet time today ????
Hey, does anyone want to play “Name That Perfume”? 😀
I went to the antiques mall today and came home with a few things, those being Moonwind (lovely and very oakmossy), Forever Kystle (smells like root beer), and a mystery.
The mystery is this: it’s in a rectangular bottle with a metal cap. The glass is embossed with what appears to be a coat of arms, two lions bracing a shield with the letters L.B.N (I think) above it. There’s a ribbon below the shield/lions with some kind of motto on it but I can’t read it. The juice is a deep amber leaning towards reddish and it smells boozy, spicy and thick. There is for sure some cinnamon in there.
Does anyone know what this could be?
Could it be the safari bottle? That has two lions, coat of arms and ribbon in rectangular bottle. Not sure about LBN though
Nice call!
Is it anything like this? https://www.ebay.com/i/331822408760
Do you think that’s a dupe for Safari for men?
That’s it! Now I’m googling the name “Trinite”, which appears to be what it is identified as and not coming up with anything, haha. Maybe it IS a dupe for something. But it’s nice in it’s own right.
I bet the letters are GBH and it’s Giorgio for men.
Ooh… i bet you are right!
Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone that celebrates!Lucky you who have Monday off as well!Enjoy!
As most of you know,I am busy planning and developing THE PERFUMED APRTMENT.I had this brilliant idea, and I am hoping you guys might want to participate.Being on NST and some other blogs,I’ve made many virtual and real perfume friends, and I want to include that in my plans. So I was wondering if anyone wanted to say hi the oldfashioned way:a perfumed letter.
The idea is this:anyone who wants to can write me a short note/letter/omnibus telling me a bit about yourself, your perfume loves, other interesting titbits about your life, even include a picture from a happy moment in your life. This letter MUST be perfumed then, because that is how we “met”!Through perfume. You can choose anything then, your SOTD,your signature perfume,Holy Grail of a certain note. But do say a bit about your choice in the letter as well please!.My plan is to make a display of my perfumed letters from around the world then,my way of including everyone I’ve met or chatted to here and elsewhere,as part of my perfumed apartment!I hope many of you would like to participate in this “community project”.I of course will write back to everyone! With a scented letter. If you like to participate in this please email me at my username on nst at the icloud dott comm,I email my snail mail address then to you. This could be awesome fun!

Oh, you did have some good smelling stuff on during your weekend!
It sure was a good smelling weekend!????
Wonderful idea! 😀
I emailed you!????
That sounds like a wonderful idea -emailing you now. ????
Another cool, grey windy day. I am luxuriating in Misia edt.
I hope you get some sun soon!
Actually we got rain! But Tues/Wed/Thurs are supposed to be nice and sunny. 🙂
You smell fantastic!
And you smelled WONDERFUL!
I’ve wanted Misia for years. You smell wonderful.
That was our weather here, too, but I kind of enjoyed it.
Back at work. It’s going to be 90 degrees today! No complaints here???? courtesy of a generous Nster, I’m wearing No.5 L’eau. I smell super sparkly! It is matching my eyeshadow, which I borrowed from my daughter. I’m not to sure about this look, lol.
Have a nice day at work Lillyjo. It was 90 degrees here yesterday and today we are in the 60’s with rain the whole day, but as you say ” No complaints”.
Hey, sometimes it’s fun to wear sparkle-y eyeshadow! Or is what you are wearing more of a shimmer?
I guess it’s more of a shimmer. The thing is, my mother told me years ago (R.I.P) that after a certain age, you should only wear matte shadow, because the shimmer shows the wrinkles, so I’ve been trying to grow old gracefully in that respect. Idk… I think it actually looked pretty o.k.. and I just refuse to give up my black eyeliner, no matter how old these eyes get.
There are some shimmer eyeshadows that look lovely on anyone, regardless of age. My $0.02 worth. I won’t give mine up just b/c I have a certain number of years on my personal odometer.
Personal odometer. I like that term!
I’m with you! Eyeliner seems to be so important. I have light eyelashes, so it seems to make to make all the difference. Without it and some mascara I can look like an alien..lol
I was talking to a MAC make-up artist awhile back; she said that shimmers are ok, just be thoughtful with placement. She suggested leaving them on the lid and browbone. I’ve also blended a matte over top of a shimmer or pearl shadow on the lid; that effect is nice too. Have fun, it’s only make-up!
If I don’t wear eyeliner, my eyes are non existent through my glasses. I do like a little shimmer under the brow bone for highlight. But maybe I will experiment more with blending and layering.
If you want an awesome make-up you-tuber, check out Wayne Goss. I highly recommend him, he makes things simple and and has great tutorials!
I am 52 and still enjoy shimmer eyeshadow. Big chunky glitter is a no, but fine shimmer still looks good, which you can blend with matte if you want more discreet. Eyeliner and mascara are a must. Black is too harsh for me now but charcoal grey works great.
I have a question/request for you good people of NST! One of my best friends is a huge fan of SSS Champagne de Bois and has no backups; she didn’t realize Laurie Erickson was closing shop. Does anyone have any they aren’t married to and would be willing to sell or swap? (She already emailed Laurie, and Laurie is out of stock.) She’d be so grateful and would make a good offer! Let me know if you can help us out. You can email me at elisagabbert at gmail dot com
Today will be mostly taken up with going to my part-time Sunday job, but I will stop by the mall afterwards to make a couple returns (and look quickly for shoes and jeans that will work better). Then we might go out to dinner since there’s no work bedtime tonight. No scent of the day yet, but I can still smell the A la Nuit I applied after my shower yesterday evening. So I might just go with that again for the first half of the day.
Yesterday, I walked a lot around the city wearing Rodin Olio Lusso perfume. My boyfriend, friend, and I walked about 30 min to get downtown for brunch. Then walked back our direction to go to REI’s anniversary sale. No one bought anything. Then we trudged up hills in our neighborhood to get ice cream. It was worth it though. It was a beautiful day for all that walking. I fell asleep pretty early last night since I properly exhausted myself and got a good night’s sleep.
That’s the best feeling- to exhaust yourself to the point of sleeping soundly and wonderfully! Sounds like a great day!
So far a quiet weekend. Yesterday, I briefly stopped by at my MIL place. Things there are in peace. Then I met a friend for some tea and pastries at a bakery in her area and have a nice time. I really enjoyed it. After, I run some errands. I was lucky that one of my sisters stayed with my mother most of the day yesterday. I wore Bronze Goddess, one of my big favorites on very hot days. We had 90 degrees.
Today and tomorrow as planned, I will be with my mom. I will do some cooking and cleaning and then I will rest. Right now, I am in Pacifica Persian Rose and will try some samples later that I received from a super generous NSTer this week. Rainy day in the 60’s. Thinking about making artichoke and spinach dip which have been in my mind for a while. I will browse for some recipes. Any suggestions?
Glad all is peaceful. And BG is wonderful in the summer. I’ll be dragging mine out if the cabinet soon.
No recipe for the dip, but I will say one if the best ways to use that dip is to make a white pizza with big dollops of the dip on it. Delicious!
Sound good!. I will try it on white pizza tomorrow! Thank you!
My only recipe is going to the deli and buying it, 🙁 I hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend ????
Ha! I migh go that way and about the hassle! ????. You too have a great day off tomorrow!
*Avoid*
https://stripedspatula.com/spinach-and-artichoke-dip/
This is the recipe I usually use. I do not add the basil, though. I just don’t like it in spinach artichoke dip for whatever reason!
Oh and I am in BG today. So good in the heat!
That recipe sounds so delicious. I already saved the link and will give it a try. I will report back. Thank you!
Glad to hear that your weekend has been a quiet and hassle-free one thus far. Unfortunately, my recipe for artichoke dip is similar to lillyjo’s, except that I get mine at Costco. If I want to fancy it up a bit, there are always things I could add in, like some chopped herbs or some good shredded Parmesan cheese.
Thanks you!. I think I will also try to buy the dip and add other ingredients to make it tastier.
One if my favorite dips.. it may be too late, but I can email you my recipe if you like. I like to make home-made dips as you know what’s in it.
One trick I learned is to blend it in a food processor so the spinach is more fine; and if you don’t have dairy issues, I like to add in some cream cheese.
No, you are not late! I am open to any good recipies and will try different ones until I get the one I really like. I would love you to send me your recipe. Thank you! My email: monica67@aol.com.
You smell delightful today! Persian Rose is so nice.
My husband made a good warm spinach-artichoke dip with feta that was delicious, but he can’t find the original recipe!???? But he said this one is similar and you can substitute the feta for whatever cheese they use if you wanted to. I personally love feta.
I cannot live without Feta Cheese. I always have enough at home. So, I will happily substitute any cheese for Feta. I will have so much fun trying different recipes. I will let you know how it comes up. Thanks a lot!
I forgot to post it! It’s below
Thank you Elisa P. I was just wondering if you had forgotten or I just had to replace the cheese on any recipe. This is great! Thank you! ????

Went to mow the lawn this morning only to have the handle of my battery-operated lawnmower come off in my hand. A plastic pin that holds it in place had broken. I drilled it out, measured for a replacement, went to the hardware store, and bought a metal pin that fit perfectly for 43 cents. I think Black and Decker should have installed metal in the first place. Anyway, back on track for the day after a two-hour detour. Going hiking so dinner will be a quick and easy zucchini/mozzarella frittata. Wearing sunscreen only. I wanted to wear Slowdive, but there was a poor bear that had to be killed in a Portland suburb, so I’m not tempting them by going to the forest smelling like honey.
Good job on the repair! It’s so satisfying to fix things simply and cheaply.
Hiking and wearing sunscreen only–are you going to Breitenbush or Rooster Rock? ????
Awesome on the repair! And yes, do not tempt the bears!
Thumbs up on an easy repair! ????
In lieu of a shower this morning, I am doused in Fico di Amalfi. I know, I know, not entirely cool, but I have a morning of chores–gardening, the gym, and washing my car included in the to-do list–and it seems silly to shower and then do all that and then need to shower again! I’ll know I made an epic mistake, if I see people fainting behind me at the gym in a bit! Try to forgive my lack of couth. I promise to smell better in a few hours! ????
Unless you are a copious sweater, a Marine shower is totally fine. 🙂
Thanks for the reply! I was beginning to think my stink had scared everyone off. ????
I *did* eventually get to that shower, and then smelled like more Fico di Amlafi! It’s so perfect for warm weather. Actually, now that I’ve nearly been to the Amalfi coast (we went to Sorrento on our honeymoon), I finally *get* this line of perfumes! The idea of light, easy colognes for those easy, sultry coast towns in Italy is spot-on. And the “Amalfi” part had better be citrus–Sorrento was absolutely defined by their beautiful and bountiful citrus trees!
Happy Memorial Day weekend, NST! We are having a little staycation with a little of this and a little of that. My older son and I walked dogs at a local animal shelter yesterday. Hubby is putting together a sample lesson plan for an interview for a math teaching position at our high school on Tuesday (fingers crossed!). Younger son is off at the water park. I am trying to catch up on work and reading.
My CP on Friday was Traversee du Bosphore (a tiny spritz since work is technically perfume-free). Need to compare it sometime to Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum Parfum du Soir, which I am lemming but is sold out at Luckyscent (hoping they get it back in).
Best find recently was a vintage bottle of Christian Dior Dolce Vita EDT that I got for a steal on eBay. Not sure exactly how old it is, but it says “Christian Dior” on the bottle instead of just “Dior.” Inspiration was a Stephanie Plum novel (my guilty pleasure to listen to in the car). I hadn’t even thought about Dolce Vita in ages until Stephanie buys some on the black market in the book. I had to go by what I could remember about it, but knew vintage was going to be the way to go. It’s like a hot summer day in a bottle where the fruits and spices are served up in a warm pine forest.
Sounds like a great weekend! Congrats on your Dolce Vita find!
Awesome find. It’s a beautiful perfume!
It’s been a busy weekend so far… lots of things getting checked off of my “To Do” list! Yay!
SOTD = L’Artisan’s Premier Figuier, from the sample stash. It’s really good for humid weather.
Yum.
I wouldn’t mind smelling it on a cute guy… ????
I wouldn’t mind smelling anything on a cute guy????????
*snort*
Haha.True dat.????????????????♂️
Agree that Premier Figuier is good for humid days. One of my fig favorites after Philosykos.
I was really surprised at how well it worked! Sometimes, humidity makes perfume wearing even more difficult for me than heat.
Good for you for checking off some of that list!
It just feels so good to be able to do that!
Getting things done is very satisfying! It rarely happens to me, sadly. You smell fabulous!
Feels good when those things get checked off. I should do it more often!
Another cool grey day, wearing SL Fourreau Noir. I love lavender when it’s sweet and gourmandy. 🙂
You smell gorgeous.
I really liked this perfume when I tested it several years ago but since my sample is long gone, and there is no store that would carry that line here, I’m waiting for some trip (EU or maybe at least NY) to try it again to decide if I want to buy it.
You smell great! I’ll wear some lavender as well today.
Fantastic perfume!
I esp enjoy Fourreau Noir in the colder temps.
I emailed you!

Jet lag flattened me on saturday–or perhaps it was just the very broken sleep from travel, because it’s hard to believe that such a brief trip would mess with my body clock that much otherwise. Wrapped myself in Mitzah and lolled about watching Project Runway, snoozing, and refusing to do anything useful at all.
Sunday was more useful–despite the crazy late jet-lagged bedtime– with a whirlwind of post it notes and index cards and scribbling as I worked on restructuring my thesis outline and trying to find the narrative threads. Bolstered by Cuir de Russie (from the dwindling supply of pre-Exclusifs EDT and a good dab of extrait on top for extra luck.) The heatwave that is brightening almost everywhere in the UK this long weekend was absent, as the haar came in and wrapped Edinburgh in soft greys.
And Monday is for Mitsouko. Hurrah for bank holidays, and not having to go to work. Best sleep I’ve had in weeks, and a burst of energy seems to have sifted all those cards into shape. Which is just as well as my supervisor is gnashing his teeth at me. (And rightly so.) The rest of my day is writing that into a version I can share with him.
And there may need to be ice cream later.
It is a relief to know that when there is a need for ice cream, you are able to come to terms with it. One mustn’t deny one’s needs when they are pressing and so important.
I firmly believe that ice cream is one of the core food groups (along with coffee and cheese).
You have admirable priorities!
Substitute tea for coffee, and yep, that’s about my food pyramid too.
I hope your sleep cycle is back to normal: as much as it is not fun on weekends, during the work week it is just plainly awful.
What kind of ice cream was it? 🙂
It’s getting back to normal again, thank you. Topsy-turvy sleep really does make one all frazzled, doesn’t it?
Sadly I was very good and didn’t skive off and head into town to buy the BEST gelato… just supermarket mint choc chip when I was done for the day. But it was still a good treat. And better for not adding to procrastination guilt!
That’s great that your thesis is starting to come together! I’d love to hear a bit about what it’s about, if intelligible to non-specialists.
thanks, Calypso! I don’t want to tempt fate, but it’s feeling a bit more within my grasp again.
The two minute version: it’s about photography as social process rather than art history–how photographers isolated from the mainstream decide what photography is for, and what it should look like. I’m digging it to this by asking: when amateur photographers share their images and ideas with each other, how does it affect their work? So I’m working with some very early photographers–one 1840s and one 1850s group–and some 21st century photographers who use the same early Victorian processes to try to understand what’s an effect of the general visual culture, the technology they use to communicate (post, journals, internet), and what is shaped by their interaction.
The ten second version: why are they all making the same photographs? And why are the fighting about fixer again?!
This is a very interesting topic!
thanks! I hope I can pull it off…
Sounds good!
Not really related but this is a novel I really liked on Scotland and photos…and the land lay still
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2010/jul/24/land-lay-still-james-robertson
thanks, Kanuka. And for the link–I remember reading about that when it was published, and somehow let it slip past. Right to the top of my day off reading list. merci!
Another 90 degrees here today. So far I’ve refused to turn on the air conditioning. There was a scary bug in my bathroom sink, which made me remember the bug collecting project my elementary school made us do. Did anyone else have to do that? Collect bugs and kill them and pin them to a board and identify them. It was awful. Sotd is Miu Miu, by shaking the bottle, I think I’ve gotten through about half already, but I think my daughter has been sneeking spritzes ???? I would like to take a moment to say how greatful i am for all those who have and are serving in our Military. In my own family, I have quite a few to thank personally. Hope everyone has a great day!
My mother tells stories of pinning bugs, but I’ve never done it. And I don’t make my kids do it, either, although I think a fair share of them would enjoy it! I cannot imagine collecting 120 pin boards with half-dead, wriggling invertebrates sacrificed upon them. Blech.
I think i managed to do about 6 or so, and cried when i had to do the pinning. Just awful!
Saturday was spent with a sick relative and Sunday was a rainy lazy day. Today has to be productive! I say this while I’m in bed thinking of creamy sandalwood scents.
Hope you got done whatever you needed to, OR, enjoyed staying in bed!
Happy Memorial Day! It’s been disgusting and rainy for the last 2 weeks, and apparently that’s supposed to continue for another week. I guess the bright side is that I’ve had a chance to see lots of pretty mushrooms that wouldn’t normally get a chance to sprout, and that it’s been impossible to mow the lawn.
I’m wearing Hiris today. Fighting the rain with a beautiful perfume.
Thanks to everyone who has served, and my thoughts are with everyone who has lost someone as a result of their service.
You smell great! Hang on in there: it’ll be sunny soon!
Thinking and praying for all veterans- the living and the dead, men, women, dogs, and horses. They served faithfully, did a horrendous job no one else could do, and were sadly abandoned by the society they served. Millions have lost their lives in combat dying in the worst circumastances I can think of-by human violence.
If you know a veteran, I recommend reading this book ( https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/78127.On_Killing) in order to understand the psychological changes that happen in combat and can last decades or a lifetime.
I’m wearing Au Dela Narcisse, a very peaceful and calming scent.
Thank you for that book recommendation. I would like to add one: Afterwar, by philosopher Nancy Sherman. It is about how war does moral injuries to people, that is, makes people do things that they would otherwise find immoral, without providing resources to help them cope with this fact. She thinks this is different from PTSD. I’ve heard her speak and she’s very good and has done a lot of research that she cites on this. Here’s a link: https://www.amazon.com/Afterwar-Healing-Moral-Wounds-Soldiers/dp/0199325278
Thanks for the recommendation! I will definitely check it out. This book too, goes into the phenomenon of “good people” finding themselves actively or passively comminting atrocities. Incredibly unnerving to realize your neighbors and the person in the mirror are equally susceptible to this…
Happy Memorial Day!
I spent an annoying morning on the phone with Paypal. I made a purchase on Ebay last week and now my credit card shows an international transaction fee of $26 for a purchase of $8. The merchant location is listed in NJ. I contacted the merchant and the 2 same answers I have received are: “Item delivered on time/ Our store is in the US”. Nothing else. I already left a negative review. Paypal says they do not have any records of that transaction fee, however the cc shows the transaction coming from them. The funny thing is that I called the credit card and they are closed for business today. They only accept calls to report lost/stolen cards. I tried to dispute the charge online, but those 26 dollars do not have the option for it (sigh!). I will patiently wait until tomorrow…
Ready, to take a walk in the park with my dog. I will grab some rum raisin ice cream cone from Dunkin Donuts to make life sweeter????. Cloudy morning in the lower 70s, but expecting beautiful sunny skies in the afternoon.
Smelling good in VC&A Bois D’ Iris (big thanks to the great generosity of Laura!).
Have a great Monday everyone!
You smell great! But more importantly, DD sells ICE CREAM?! How did I not know this..?
Thank you Deva!
All DDs here sell Baskin-Robbins ice cream. It is not DD ice cream brand.
You smell wonderful! Hopefully once people are back to work tomorrow the credit card issue will be resolved quickly. Enjoy that ice cream. We don’t have Dunkin Donuts around here anymore:(
Thank you Lillyjo!
Rum raisin ice cream – yumyumyum!
????
What?….Twins today!!!Hehe!
We do smell fabulous!!
Hope your day was awesome!
I emailed you!????

Thank you Deva!

Happy Memorial Day all. Heading over to my sister’s place later so my nephew can fire up the barbecue. I think it’s an OJ Frangipani day today…it’ll be a hot one. Am bringing a nice dog bone from the local meat company over for my nephew’s Doberman pup, Loki. He’s not yet a year old and quite massive. But very, very sweet.
All my gratitude to those who have served and for their family members.
Enjoy the barbecue and the rest of the holiday!
Hello everyone, I hope you are having a good holiday if you’re in the US and have the day off. I am hanging in there waiting to call my doctor first thing tomorrow to see if he wants to schedule surgery this week. Ugh. I’ve noticed that my sense of taste and smell is off right now, and wonder if it might be from the drugs I was given this last Friday. I don’t want coffee, anything salty tastes bad, and perfumes smell too strong and sharp. The only things I have an interest in are sweet things like strawberries. Maybe I should try a sweet perfume. I hope this will pass before too long. I had oxycodone, morphine, and something called (I think) Brevital which is for what they call “conscious sedation” (It knocks you out while they try to re-position the dislocated hip). I looked up side effects and didn’t see this mentioned as one. Oh well. I still have my kitties and some good novels on my Kindle.
I wish you the best on your upcoming surgery. I hope you recover and feel better soon. Hugs!
Best wishes to you – I’m sure it’s a temporary reaction to something…. Isn’t Sadanne the scent that is juicy strawberries?
And it’s a perfect weekend for that first strawberry shortcake!!
Hi Calypso, I hope you do get your surgery this week so your life can get back to normal. Sorry about the smell and taste issues. Go well!
Hopefully he can schedule you asap. Wishing you luck and a quick recovery.
Hey Calypso, sorry you are so uncomfortable and stuck waiting. I seem to remember that the heavy opiates I was on after a hip failed also completely scrambled my senses. And one of my cats wouldn’t come anywhere near me. I think I smelled wrong to him. Everything got back to normal post surgery. That, or it was the pain rewiring everything. Hard to tell the difference sometimes.
(If it’s any reassurance: my third hip was an utter disaster, and it looked like I was at game over point. My fourth? Still rocking it almost eleven years on. Revisions can be hard, but against the prevailing wisdom and doomsaying, they can be a lot better than the ones that came before them.)
Hi all. What do those of you with respiratory issues and allergies do to ensure you can indulge in scent and still breathe? We’ve had a reluctant spring in Boston, lots of pollen, too much damp. I can barely breathe. I take Robin’s advice and apply perfume to backs of knees, never near face. Maybe I’m doomed to use only eucalyptus essential oil forever 🙁
Oh no!
Hope your allergies clears up soon!
Eucalyptus does smell fantastic though!
I emailed you JUST NOW!

The weird thing is this is really the first time I’ve had allergies!
I think the weird global weather is screwing up everything, including our bodies!
We’ve had rain for days in May in Pretoria… unheard of!!Like ever!
Halloooo fragrant friends!

Hi twin! Of course we smell terrific. It was a quiet and nice holiday. I am so glad to hear you have had a wonderful response to your project! ????
Checking my email in a while! Thanks!
Glad that Monday is out of the way; it was a tough day at work so I’m very happy to be home. My SOTE is Guerlain Samsara edt. This is pretty good stuff, I may wear this all week.
Hope everyone enjoyed their vacation day today.
Hi Gail, I just want to let you know that I made the spinach/ artichoke dip from your recipe today and it was an absolute sucess. The chestnuts and the soup mix make a delicious difference. I ate a lot and I know that by tomorrow what I left will be gone. Thanks a lot! I will try the other recipes in the next couple of weekends, but be sure yours is a huge favorite. Thanks a million!
I’m glad you liked it! You are so very welcome and thank you so much for letting me know!
