Quick PSA: the next freebiemeet will be on Saturday, June 2.
It's the weekend! And it's Plant A Lemon Tree Day and World Whisky Day. We’re celebrating it all with our same old open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite cocktail with lemon and whisky, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Testing Aqua Celestia Forte from MFK today. Ok, I like it more than first Aqua Celestia, it has more presence on skin but I’m definitely not willing to spend so much for this kind of perfume.
What makes it a “forte”?
I don’t know… maybe it’s more concentrated or has some of the notes amplified?
I was up early to catch the royal wedding..
made a pot of lapsang tea and some scones
Seeing the heavenly bodies exhibit at the Met
Rain rain go away..
I was up also. Wearing O de Lancôme which has lots of lemon. Envy you the Met visit.
The Met visit sounds like so much fun
I was up watching also. Wish I could tag along on your Met visit.
Enjoy the Met. Still need to see that exhibit…
Add the Grant Wood exhibit at the Whitney if you can. Very well done & so tempted to lift one of those landscapes right off the wall to bring home. ????
Beautiful image! I really enjoyed last weeks CP and hope we do a part deux sometime.
Saturday! And I’m wearing SL Vetiver Oriental, which is delish. Just a lazy day today, nothing planned and will take the dog for a good hike and then read.
I’m still reading the first book in a trilogy by James Conaway about the history of Napa and winemaking here in the valley and it’s pretty dang good. This valley has gone from a backwater with just a handful of family vintners to over 600 wineries, most owned by huge corporations. The changes have divided an entire community and legistlation is being voted on in the near future about land usage and preservation vs industry.
People have been fighting over land since the beginning of time it seems.
Sounds like what’s happening to the indie / niche perfume houses!
Good analogy!
Another vote for Museum Day part deux! I really enjoyed it too.
Sounds like you have the perfect Saturday lined up-enjoy!
I just finished Nomadland from your book list. I found it very interesting. Have a nice hike.
I would love to do another project too — any ideas for a slight variation on the theme?
How about favourite buildings/ architecture/ sites…(human made) whether temples, houses, bridges, train stations, pyramids….etc.
How about Places in Nature or Places in the World…
Pick an artwork and pair it with a perfume or perfumer from that same country as the artist.
Thank you all!! Good ideas.
Is that right? Over 600!
Amazing.
Lovely day you planned.
I’m in Thé Pour un Été now, but once I get my keester in gear I will switch to something lemony in honor of Plant a Lemon Tree Day. And will be watching this thread for whisky and lemon cocktail recipes!
I’m also lurking for some cocktail recipes!
Will be boring and offer a Whisky Sour:
45 ml (1 1/2 oz.) American whiskey
15 ml (1/2 oz.) lemon juice
15 ml (1/2 oz.) cane syrup (simple syrup)
1 maraschino cherry
I wish I had known about Plant a Lemon Tree Day! I would have picked something a bit more citrusy. As is, I went with Tadashi Shoji. Some days you just need to smell like a rose!
I remember once at Whole Foods, the lady in front of me purchase 4 cases of shelf stable lemon juice and 3 of the lime juice. She told the cashier that her husband had a margarita after every day at work, and that they were moving to Australia. She said it was cheaper to buy the juice in the US and ship it with them. If I remember correctly, Australia’s citrus groves were devastated awhile back. Still, she spent a pretty penny that day!
Anyway, have a great weekend, all!
Good morning Y’all….
Sitting at work, looking at the Royal wedding pics and such….
Wearing Ysatis again and enjoying a bit more sillage since I’m alone today! 🙂
Plant a Lemon Tree day…what a great idea! My granddaddy grew a lemon tree in his living room, and it actually had fruit from time to time! He had a green thumb and could coax anything to grow! 🙂
Smelling great Jada!
I woke up at 4am to watch the royal wedding after going to sleep at 2am. One of my friends is visiting New York and we were talking, talking, talking until very late. I am trying my best to keep myself awake now with plenty of coffee. Tons of errands to run this weekend and lots of work at home to take care of. Days keep being very tough for me, but life does not stop. Rain, rain and more rain for a week already and it is cold today.
Wearing Houbigant Quelques Fleurs (thanks Flopper!), the perfume worn by princess Diana on her wedding day. I wonder what exclusive perfume by Floris Meghan Markle wore today. I understand something citrusy was going to be presented to her. Anyway, we will never have the opportunity to even try it. Looking forward to have some whiskey or cocktails later based on your posts.
Be well all and have a great weekend!
It’s rainy here too, makes me want to nap. Hope you get a little rest in between errands. Good to see you here today!
Hi Lillyjo! Let’s hope for a more cheerful weather. We are in the 50’s today and expecting to be in the 80’s tomorrow. Crazy changes. So difficult to dress appropriately these days.
Hi PL67, been thinking of you! Good to have a friend to talk into the night with even if tired the next day.
Thank you Springpansy! Trying my best not to stay away from NST. It is very comforting for me to be always here. I loved the CP this week. It was amazing and I hope it is repeated in the future. I saved the links for the whole week. I just did not have the energy and time to participate, but I saved the links of the whole week. As you said, it is good to have a friend around once in a while. It always helps.
Hope things slow down a bit for you so you can catch your breath. I didn’t watch the wedding, but have been enjoying the subsequent photos. It’s a great diversion for a busy mind! I haven’t seen any comments on the dress yet, but I loved the simplicity and elegance of it. She is a beautiful bride!
Very simple and elegant Givenchy dress. She looked fabulous. The wedding will be broadcasted again today and tomorrow at different times and tv channels. Good chance for those who missed it. I also enjoy seeing all the fascinators and hats worn. Very entertaining early morning for sure.
Thanks for the reminder about the rebroadcasts. I just DVRd. I saw highlights and can’t wait to see a full blown version of the event.
I hope you get some rest this weekend. Stay fragrant!
Sit down and enjoy it in full! You will love it.
We had family friends in town from Alabama (passing through NM) last night and they came to our house. We had a wonderful visit but I didn’t get to bed until after 11 and then woke up at 2:30 to watch wedding festivities. My fiancé thought I was insane but I loved every minute!
My friend also thought I was insane, but hey! you do not watch an event like this every day and it was beautiful! ????
You smell beautiful. I hope you find a few peaceful moments in your day.
Thank you Sistine! You also smell fabulous in Champaca!
Happy to see you posting here, PL67! Also glad to hear that you are having some quality time with a good friend. Hugs.
Thank you Jalapeno!
I watched the royal wedding yesterday too. Megan was a radiant bride but what really struck me is the way that they looked at each other during the ceremony. It made my heart skip a beat. So sweet.
How did you like Quelque Fleurs? I hope things begin to ease or you soon.
Oops, Meghan.
Their looks at each other also moved my heart. They are deeply in love!
Quelques Fleurs is a powdery white flowers perfume. I get mostly lily of the valley, tuberose and jasmine, even though other flowers are listed. It gets a little woody in the dry down. Very classy and pretty. I like it, but not love it.
I remember going to my grandmother’s house to watch the wedding of Charles and Diana. I was about 14. We didn’t have a tv in my house, but my grandmother had two. The one in the spare room was black and white. My whole family was bewildered at why I would even care. But I stayed up all night in that back room watching the wedding on a black and white tv. I remember thinking that under all that fabric was a young women not much older than myself looking a little stunned at what she’d gotten herself into. So so diffferent from the weddings of both her sons! MM looked lovely, self possessed, and very much in love. I didn’t stay up to see the wedding, but I enjoyed the photos the next day!
Hugs to you perfumelover67. Friends are riches!!
I also remember waking up very early in the morning with my mother to watch Charles and Diana’s wedding. It was such an event!. However, I could not watch it until the end because it was held in the middle of the week and I had to go to school. At that time we were leaving overseas. My mother did not allowed me to skip school that day. I was so sad, but very excited anyway and people talk about it for a long, long time. I was fascinated with her dress.
Hugs back to you Okland Fresca!
SOTD is Pomegranate Noir by Jo Malone. Heading to a concert tonight and will likely enjoy an old fashioned before hand. Whistle pig rye whiskey, Demerara sugar simple syrup, walnut and angostura bitters with orange peel and lemon twist.
Yum! Both your sotd and the recipe!
Lazy cold overcast day.Perfect to stay in bed and watch the Royal wedding which was just lovely.Meghan Markle looked beautiful in Givenchy. The ceremony was really beautiful as well. The Queen was the most colorful of all the guests, what a surprise!Wonderful to see Harry looking dapper as well.I was about 5years old when Diana got married, and watched in awe with my grandmother at the splendor and grandeur of that day.She-and my late Mother-would have enjoyed seeing the nuptials today as well.
SOTD finishing a sample vial of FM Monsieur.Shapeshifter of a perfume, today the rose was more prominent than on my last outing.Happy Saturday all!
P.s.on Plant a lemon tree day,the wedding cake of Harry and Meghan has layers of lemon curd, and is infused with elderflower syrup.Sounds yummy!
Oh, that does sound great!
I saw a LOT of recipes for lemon elderflower cakes this week on the Internet. Sounded delicious!
Ring ding ding… Royal Cake baker Claire Ptak is from the Bay Area and learned her baking skills here at local restaurants and bakeries… and we all are just crazy enough to brag about this. I suspect lemon sponge cake will be a local fave for a while ????
I thought it was truly lovely as well!
SotD = Vanira Moorea
The petitgrain in Berdoues scents is fabulous. Selva do Brazil has it too.
Love that citrus-y photo up top today. Now I want a glass of lemonade.
My mum has a volunteer citrus tree in her backyard. A seed somehow dropped there and sprouted. The little tree has a few fruit, it looks like a Meyer lemon.
In more citrus-y news, I was gifted a bottle of Guerlain Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat. It’s pure and sparkling barely-sweet citrus top notes, lasts under an hour, then poof it’s gone. It’s a parlor trick, a perfumed joke in a bottle, and I adore it. Spritzed over dried down Vol de Nuit, it reawakened the fragrance very nicely. I hope Fleurs de Cedrat will layer well over many scents.
My wish to everyone this weekend: let’s take it easy on ourselves when we can, and take good care of each other when we have the chance.
Hey there, tiffanie (which spell check kept wanting to change to Tiffany’s). I have a bottle of this which I have not worn in forever. Thanks for the reminder.
Hope your Vanira Moorea gets some air time soon. Berdoues scents are easy to love, and their sample sets are wonderful fun!
I am a Tiffany’s girl at heart, though no longer in practice. Their catalogs are the stuff of dreams. Tiffany blue is one of my top 5 favorite colors.
I actually have the Fleurs de Cedrat … It needs air time!
Oops, also meant to mention I was named for a high school friend of my mother’s who had the last name Tiffany. I am old enough that I had the name before it was even a little popular as a first name. There was a period when I was in my 20’s and 30’s, there were so many little girls named Tiffany that I could hardly go anywhere without hearing an exasperated mom hollering my name. 😉
That perfume sounds like a great one to spritz whenever you’re feeling frazzled and worn out by life. Maybe we should put in sprinkler systems world wide to give a pick up to everyone! ????
Great idea! We all need it! First one here waiting for a spritz ????.
CItrus-scented sprinklers, STAT! I would stand under them all the time. 😀
The phrase “volunteer citrus tree” made me smile. My parents’ last house had what we called the accidental tree. It had planted itself right by the back fence.
Ha! An accidental tree is a wonderful thing.
I was up early watching The Wedding too. I made my son watch it with me, he stayed through 20 minutes. I actually cried. I told him how I had gotten up early for Princess Diana’s wedding, and how special that was. We then went to the mall, while my daughter and I were in Sephora, I gave my son my debit card to get a 20 dollar game card. He came back with a FIFTY dollar game card! Why? He figured why not? Omg, I barely had 20, let alone 50, so thats now part of his birthday present for next month. Anyway, I’m wearing Tom Ford Noir pour femme on one hand and White Patchouli on the other. The White Patchouli is on my birthday list, but it’s still in testing mode.
That sounds like something my brother would have done when we were teeneagers! He’s now in his lates 50’s and not surprisingly, has done very well for himself. ????
Well, maybe there’s hope for my son too, then????
I cried too. No shame in my game lol!
It really was beautiful.
Boys. That sounds exactly like something my son would do. Mine is home from college for a couple of weeks and yesterday we went to the used vinyl store. He bought two records which took his bank account down to exactly 45 cents, then on the way home I got a “hey mom, will you float me a couple hundred bucks til I start my summer job in two weeks?”????Of course I did.
Ha! Of course you did! I really don’t think my son understood that the debit card wasn’t a magic money card, and that he had just spent my gas money. We will be going back to the cash only allowance system.
Oh no! I have a feeling he learned something very important today.
Oh, he did. On the way home, he asked if we were going to stop at McDonald’s, not anymore, i said, LOL
Perfect lesson!
????????
Haha. Reminds me of the time I gave my son a $20 to buy himself a frozen yoghurt. When he got back to the car he only had some coins in change. What happened to the rest of the money? He had given it to the server as a tip ????
Omg! Nooooo…..!
Well, he’s generous, which is a character trait to be encouraged I think, in a very selfish world. Somehow I would be less upset by that than using the money for his own personal satisfaction.
It’s all about the journey towards understanding the value of money. Gave me a good laugh, but then I had the $20 to spare. He won’t do it again (or at least not the same amount for the same item!), but hopefully if he has spare change or an extra buck burning a hole in his pocket as he goes through life, he will toss it into the tips cup wherever he’s getting something.
No SOTD, yet, but maybe some Fico di Amalfi for some citrus-related commiseration for the gym. Afterwards, and post-shower, I will likely reach for some vintage Shalimar. I’ve worn it 3 times this week, and it seems to be what I need right now. It’s old enough that the lemony topnotes are pretty faded, but I can pretend I’m still part of the group. ????
Otherwise, I’m busy baking carrot birthday cake for my brother, who turns 43 today. He says it’s all about the cream cheese frosting, so I’m gonna cut the cake into layers, and double the frosting-related opportunities for him. Hope he approves. ????
Your brother is right about that frosting. Double layers sound perfect to me!
Me too!
Thank you! I love cream cheese frosting, but sadly must eat it in moderation–lactose doesn’t love me back. But always happy to make a cake I know he’ll enjoy!
Great cake idea! Happy birthday to you brother, I’m sure that cake will put a huge smile on his face????
Thank you! I asked him what he wanted and will do my best to deliver.
Happy birthday to your brother. He sounds like my frosting twin!
Hard to go wrong with cream cheese.
Your brother is lucky to have you! And you smell wonderful!
Why thank you! He started a tradition many years ago of baking me a cake for my birthday, and I realized I could return the favor a few years after that. Now, it’s what we do. He always makes me some ridiculously rich chocolate concoction (which, to be fair, is always a good move for me), and I often make him cheesecake. There’s definitely a cream cheese theme. . .
Carrot cake is the best! Have fun celebrating!
Thanks! Mr. Spicebomb is in strong disagreement with you and my brother, but his birthday is in 10 days, and then he can get the cake HE wants. ????
YUM!!
It sure LOOKS good! I will deliver in a little bit. If I’m lucky, my brother will invite me to have a bit before I return home.
I think I’ll wear my Profumum Acqua Viva for a lovely natural lemon drying down to cedar/cypressy woods. A favorite warm weather fragrance.
Oh I wish I had that with me, as it sounds like just the thing to turn this rainy day into an approximation of summer.
Heading out to viait an old friend, very much looking forward to seeing her and laughing our heads off.
Wearing Balman Ivoire, the new one. I weat this one im spring/summer only, and it’s my first wear of the year. Life is good.
Enjoy the time with your friend. You smell great!
I am with old friends today and have been laughing my head off too! I hope you have a great time.
SOTD = Dipptique Fleur d’ Peau
From a travel spray GWP when I bought Tempo at the Diptique boutique during Sniffapalooza Saturday. You can read more about it in Undina’s blog and also enter to win a samples goodie bag (2 available, open to everyone worldwide but you only have until this Sunday night to enter).
https://undina.com/2018/05/13/sniffapalooza-samples-glorious-samples/
When I tried Fleur d’ Peau at the boutique, I was underwhelmed probably because I was a mess of a billion scents already. This morning, by itself, it’s musky clean Iris with a hint of bitterness – very nice. I wore 3 spritzes and it had been 4 hours and it is still very much present. I think this will make a nice layerer. This actually reminds me of Chanel No.18 EDT minus the sweetness.
I got my alcohol limit this week with a visit to Izakaya NoMad in the Flatiron district (26th and Broadway). My co-worker and I shared a bottle of sake. Enough said. We sat at the bar and stuck around for 2 hours and had a great time gawking at the food coming out, eating our own and just shooting the breeze.
Lazy me did not get up to watch the royal wedding. I watched highlights. What a beautiful bride and her dress was simple elegance and the headpiece was just the right amount of bling!
Have a good weekend everyone!
Love all of this! Have a great weekend!
You smell great! Love Fleur de Peau, it has become my new wear to work scent. I find that two sprays lasts me all day.
Glad you have a great time with your friend. Is there any perfume close enough to Chanel No. 18 besides Fleur d’ Peau?
I can’t think of one like No.18 that includes the sweetness. Minus the sweetness, Wood Sage & Sea Salt and Demeter Ivory Soap come to min.
I just realized — it’s actually Demeter Pure Soap, not Ivory.
Thank you! I will try Pure Soap. Wood Sage and Sea Salt has some No. 18 vibe, but not enough.
Sounds like a fun place! While in NYC, took friends to Tao Downtown for the experience. I love it and enjoy watching friends and family experience it for the first time. Will definitely try your place on my next visit!
H, btw I am happy-but-envious that Dusitas last on you – I think they clock in at under an hour for me, so it was silly that I bought a bottle…
Your sake escapade sounds awesome!
I chose an English fragrance in honor of the royal wedding – Champaca by Ormonde Jayne. It made me very happy to think of how many people around the world were watching to wish two people happiness.
Confession – I did not watch the wedding itself. I slept in and started watching when they left the church. Horses!!!!
Have a peaceful, happy, restorative weekend.
You smell great!
You smell wonderful! You’re not alone in your confessing, I slept in too.
I also slept in, too! Got to watch part of the wedding when it was rebroadcast late this afternoon.
We had family friends from Alabama passing through NM yesterday and they stopped and spent the evening with us. We had a wonderful visit but I didn’t get into bed until after 11 and got up at 2:30 to watch wedding festivities. I thought it was so lovely. I even cried a little. It was nice to watch something filled with love rather than hate or despair which is, unfortunately, the case on the news most days.
I went back to bed for a couple of hours, got up and had coffee and made brunch. Now waiting for the Preakness this afternoon. A perfect Saturday! I’m pairing the day with Assam of India (thanks, madtowngirl)….lemon and tea! Perfect for an English wedding or horse race!
Smelling great! Enjoy your perfect Saturday!????
You smell fabulous. We’re house twins. 🙂 I almost wore Assam of India today, but Vanira Moorea was looking forlorn and lonely.
I’m looking for suggestions for body butter. I have a tub of Kai for spring and Bronze Goddess for summer, but I am uncertain about one for the cold days. I’m thinking something woody but am open to others (not foody). What helps you feel toasty in the dead of winter? Many thanks!
My go to fragrance free body butter is by Clinique. It comes in two packaging formats: screw top tub and flip-top plastic tube. I saw a third fomat at duty-free (forgot where) — a pump bottle. It’s on the expensive side compared with Cerave which I like as well.
Another one I really like but is $$$ is Diana Vreeland Body Cream.
As to scented, which I don’t typically use but now do on a limited basis — B&BW Mousse to Oil lotion. I am currently using Chamomile and Honey which is very light and not foody at all.
I am glad you like the B&BW mousse to oil lotions. I am using them now almost every day and they do not interfere with any perfumes. I agree with you that they are a good option, in any season.
You get the enabler’s pin! I gave my this as a gift to my sisters for Mothers’ Day.
Great!
I love the body shop body butters. Very moisturizing, generally BOGO 1/2 off, and come in a variety of scents. The almond is my favorite.
Agreeing with Deva on The Body Shop body butters. I would also recommend the Pacifica body butters, if they are still being made. Very moisturizing and fragrant, and I love their Persian Rose one.
I’m going to recommend the Josie Maran body butters. They come in a ton of scents, for winter the vannila bean is very cozy. They are very moisturizing. The scent lingers too.
Thanks for all the great ideas. Whole lot of sniffing ahead of me! I really appreciate your ideas and know they come from the very best noses.
SotD is Narciso EDT. I stopped into Nordstrom rack earlier this week and picked up a three pack of travel sprays for $11! Perfumemath free! It is lovely. I don’t know that it’s different enough from White Cube to justify a bottle, but 10 mls should be just the right size. Less woody and more floral.
I really loved this week’s project. I think it’s my second favorite to Playlist Friday, I do hope Robin will do it again sometime.
The sun has finally broken through the clouds today.????Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!
I think your perfume math is off. It seems to me that it’s better than “free,” possibly a deficit situation, meaning you now owe yourself a full bottle of a highly covered fragrance just to get back to “0.” Balance is everything ????
Co-signing with this brilliant analysis.
Oh, excellent.
I’ve been enjoying my latest FB purchase, Suleyman le Magnifique from Fort and Manle. It’s hard to describe, rich and a little smokey, and lovely. It’s the first bottle I’ve had posted from Australia, and it was accompanied by six (6!) pages of hazardous chemical information – no wonder most places won’t post perfume from Australia to New Zealand. And the postage was $75 AUD, which makes it one of my most expensive purchases.
I’ve been commenting less than usual of late, as I’ve been out of my usual routine. A month ago, I experienced a spontaneous coronary artery dissection, or SCAD, which meant I had a minor heart attack. A bit of a surprise, to say the least! After a month, I think it’s safe to say that everything is getting back to normal, and I’ll be reading NST at tbe usual time over breakfast 🙂
Yikes about your health crisis, glad you are still here with us!
Those shipping charges are pretty scary too.
Ouch. Glad you’re on the mend. When Andy Tauer first started mailing perfumes from Austria, the packages came with a thick sheaf of paper with all sorts of what looked to me like chemical composition details and regulations.
Wow, scary! On both accounts! Glad everything has turned around and is getting back to normal regarding your health!
Kind of ridiculous about the sheaf of warnings mailed with your perfume, considering they downed more than one tree and probably used “environmentally unfriendly” ink for printing. There was a shoe company that was plugging their “recycled from plastic” shoes as environmentally friendly, but turns out the engery consumption and resulting waste during production made them quite the opposite.
I’m so glad you are ok! If it’s alright to ask, did you have symptoms? How did you know to seek medical attention? I’m asking because I have a heart issue, myself.
I would like to know this too, and glad you are recovering Gaynor!
Glad to hear you are on the mend and you are regaining your health. AU$75!!! Nuts,eh?
So glad you are on the mend. Getting back to a routine can be very comforting.
Oh no! So scary! Thankful you are on the mend!
I’m so glad you’re recovering. I’m surprised those shipping charges didn’t cause another heart incident! But in all seriousness, I am very happy you are getting better.
Good to hear that you are on the road to recovery! Cardiac issues are scary.
How utterly terrifying! I am so glad you are ok. And the Fort and Manle is fabulous!
Oh my goodness! So glad you are getting back to normal and recovering well. And glad to hear from you.
Take good care, Gaynor. Your perfumed pals are glad you’re on the mend.
Take care Gaynor. Glad to hear you are on the mend.
I hope that you feel as good as new soon.
Congrats on your new bottle. I really like that house. Their scents are beautifully done, interesting and wearable.
Take care!
That is scary. So glad you are back to breakfast with NST. Please take very good care of yourself!
Being on the east coast of the US, the wedding started at a reasonable 7am. Glad to see they had a glorious sunny day and I loved the tiara. The wedding, not so much. I enjoyed William & Kate’s wedding much more, I am a traditionalist.
After the wedding ended we switched to cycling on Eurosport to watch a monster mountain stage in the Giro d’Italia. Much more exciting. 🙂 I am wearing Acqua di Parma Magnolia Nobile.
Harry is definitely “un-traditional” in almost every way. A breath of fresh air, which works wonders in his ultra-conservative social structure.
Yeah, I heard he is on a waiting list for a council flat in Croydon
Ha!
This made me laugh, thank you Kanuka!
Haha!Croydon,once a hub of cultivation of Saffron,according to legend!Perfume ties!✌????
You smell beautiful! I love MN on warm summer days, so wonderful.
I loved that she was able to infuse her culture and heritage into the wedding!
That tiara was amazing! And I’m not a jewelry fan at all.
But it’s sort of a matter of whose traditions, no? At least in this case, although I have to say I didn’t watch, just read about it.
I had one of those great days yesterday where you start out meaning to do one thing and end up following leads to a far more interesting world…a day of digressions. Began by reading about Creosote’s ostracan …discovered the word ‘ ostracised’ comes from ostracan…discovered that the classics department here teaches a course on words that have entered English language from Ancient Greece etc…decided that I should study classics….no reason why not?
Second digression: started re-reading Michael Edwatds perfume legends and noted that chypres were particularly popular after war periods…decided to wear Mitsouko….decided to try and sniff all the perfumes mentioned in perfume legends….then decided to read up on Ubar ( not in guide)… Then brought in washing.
Great day. Wearing Lale cause it’s lemon.
https://nstperfume.com/2007/01/20/perfume-legends-by-michael-edwards-perfume-book-review/
A list of the perfume legends selection. I am way behind on that list….
Just took a peek at the list. Now I want to have Paloma Picasso, again. Sigh….
Yes, a goodie!
I have deep old school love for PP!
Wearing vintage Aliage, which came to me from Regina. I have to go in to work for a few hours for a quarterly meeting, and this will be a nice companion for the walk to my office. My SO is walking with me too. It’s only about a 40 minute walk, and it’s a lovely day. Plus we’ll be by a lake for some of it, so even better.
That sounds like a nice walk. Hope the work part goes fast.
I too set my alarm for 3 am. It went off, I rolled over thinking I was nuts. But then I got up and was happy I did. Lovely ceremony. Went back to bed and got a few more hours. And put on Stella as my celebration scent.
Thanks all, for your kind thoughts in my Dad. He passed away in his sleep while my flight was coming in to land the other day. Although I was a bit stunned when my sister told me in the car, I realized it was okay. I’m now going through the slog of financial paperwork. The good news is, everything related to funeral, etc. was pre-arranged and paid for. So, that has made that aspect very easy.
I was sorry to miss the last couple days of the CP. The two paintings I love are Manet’s Dejeuner sur L’Herbe and Olympia. I literally gasped when I saw them in Paris.
Here’s hoping Justify comes through!
Sending you lots of love LizzieB.
So sorry Lizzie. Wishing you a weekend full of wonderful memories of your dad.
Sending you hugs and warm thoughts for your entire family. And I agree on the Justify comment!
LizzieB, I saw your comments about going to your dad too late to comment. But I hope that you and your sisters can have joy in your memories of a wonderful man. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sorry about your Dad’s passing. My thoughts with you and your familiy.
So sorry for your loss, LizzieB. May you and your sisters find comfort with the knowledge that your dad lived a full life.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Sending love and prayers to you and your family.
Please accept my condolences on your dad’s passing, LizzieB. Hugs to you and your family.
So sorry for your loss.
Condolences to you and your family, LizzieB. It’s good you are able to be with your sister.
So sorry for your loss, LizzieB.
So sorry about your dad LizzieB.
I’m so sorry for your loss LizzieB. May you and your sisters find solace in each other this weekend. My thoughts are with you.
Sending HUGS!Somsorry to hear about your loss!❤️❤️
Post-shower Shalimar Legere in honor of lemon day. I’ve read it reminds some of lemon custard, and I agree! Yum..????
You do smell great Laura!
Thank you!
So sorry to learn of your dad’s passing, LizzieB. May all of your good memories of him be a comfort to you. The memories will always be with you.
I put on some Creed Spring Flower earlier today and watched the royal wedding. I somehow managed to be up early enough to see a lot of what was going on.
Now I’m watching the Preakness as I make a small effort to straighten things in the living room.
Wearing Heeley’s Phoenicia (spelling) right now from a sample a friend had. There is something really intriguing about it, but I have to see if it gives me any head trouble, as some Heeley’s — but not all! — do.
Hey guys, sitting here listening to Cheap Trick before work. Wearing Angel Muse. The McDonald’s guy called me darlin, lol. Made me smile, sometimes you just need a little darlin in your life ???? of course now I’m thinking about Matt Dillon and Jodie foster in Little Darlings…. fingers crossed it’s gonna be a good day!
Wow, Cheap Trick. Brings back memories.
My husband was just reading that Cheap Trick and Poison are touring this summer- Nothin’ But a Good Time.????Rock on Lillyjo, hope your work day is a good one!
Yeah, they are actually coming near me i think this summer. I saw them in Milwaukee back in the day, love them!
I love the memories these old bands bring back. I was/am a huge Robin Trower fan, as well as Thin Lizzy and the usual suspects including Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Deep Purple, ad infinitum…wow! ✌????
I’m a lemon fan. I actually made some very tasty, maybe a tad bit too sweet, lemon pistachio bars on Friday. NYTimes recipe, highly recommend.
I’ve hit the snooze button a half dozen times now, trying to get up to go out for a jog, but…????
Will the sun ever show it’s face again?
It’s Sunday, which means Jessica McClintok in this house. Cheers.
I’m out and about with my honey this morning. We went for breakfast at charming cafe run by a French pastry chef. Blueberry scones and quiche, yum. Now the more mundane chores are next.
SOTD is Bees Bliss to counteract another gray day with rain. Eeking out tiny increments from my travel spray. ????
Yum to your breakfast !
This was my last 24 or so hours: Went into work at 7pm as scheduled, only to be told I was called and left a message that I was pushed back to 10pm. No call, no message, fourth time this has happened. So, I did a short drive-by at Ulta and put 2 things I really didn’t need in my basket. In the checkout line, I realized I forgot my debit card in my car. Went out to the van, got my debit card and promptly locked myself out. Called two locksmiths who seemed sketchy. I ran next door to Panera and bought a bagel, tore off chunks, and tried to maneuver T-Rex via bagel baiting to step on the dang button by feeding her bagel bits through the 1 1/2” crack in the window. She tried hard but couldn’t seem to step in the right place but I can’t fault her enthusiasm. An hour later one of the sketchy locksmiths showed up, who actually was a really nice guy. He got it unlocked on the first attempt and I coughed up $200. Then I got to work right at 10pm and spent 8 hours with a bunch of drama queens (fellow nurses, not the patients)! 3 of us were in a room with a patient (he was a big guy) and he said “You all smell great!” I’m dead certain it was me but I remained quiet and took no credit. But I KNOW it was Uncle Serge he was admiring! Anyway, now I’m in my womb-like van with my BFF and I’m going to sleep. BUT, I did top off my Vetiver Oriental because it’s that good!
Phew! I love the image of the dog pushing car buttons in an effort to get bagel. That’s an ingenious attempt at a solution!
I hope there’s a way for you to raise a stink about them not informing you of hours changes! It’s unacceptible for them to waste your time and disrespect your needs that way. I assume it means you work two hours later than planned as well–that could create issues for folks!
At least fragrance has your back.
My fragrance was grand! It’s annoying but my hours are guaranteed so I can’t complain about income being impacted. I just have a personal pet peeve regarding inefficient systems! But, that’s my problem since people in general are very inefficient, and like to create inefficient systems in their own likeness.
Jeeze Louise what a night! Hope all is right for your world after some rest. I gotta tell you, I’m generally very skittish and afraid of dogs, but T-Rex has won my heart.
Well, you just won T-Rex’s heart because she loves people! The other day I was wanting to go into a little boutique and was looking for a place outside to secure T-Rex when the owner stepped out and usher us in, saying “We’re dog friendly!” When we were leaving she said, “Please come back! You don’t have to buy anything, just bring your dog!”
🙂
What a crazy day! At least you got a perfume compliment and saved the money from the unnecessary purchase at Ulta. Hope you day today is much better.
Um, well, I still made that unnecessary purchase! ????
Crazy night,fellow nurse!At least you smelled AWESOME!($200 for a locksmith??yikes…)
Ha! I know! Emergency + nighttime + weekend = mucho dinero!!
I spent the whole of Sunday trying to do things that didn’t work out, but you have me beat Deva! Hope you got a good night’s sleep.
Spent yesterday at the computer working and shopping around for a new bed. Ultimately scratched the idea of buying a cheap ( like from Overstock) bed… we’ll fix our failing struts. And we will buy something really nice when our ship comes in ???? In other words a very dull day. But I was heavily doused in MFK’s Lumiere Noire, which is one of those scents that benefits from being well applied, my sons were both home and full of beans, and my husband made dinner. And one of the cats joined me in bed for late night reading. Simple pleasures!
Random book rec. I am reading Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler. It is tough going— sort of The Grapes of Wrath meets the Walking Dead ( though no supernatural, at least so far). It is well written and guaranteed to make you think. If you like harrowing tales of survival, I highly recommend it.
Ooh. That book rec has me searching for it at the library. Thanks!
