Happy Cinco de Mayo! We’re marking the day with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the perfume you think you'll buy on your next holiday, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Just want to say thx for all the happy bday wishes yesterday. I had such a nice day. Mr SP even made a surprise party for me in the evening. Not the kind where people hide and then jump out to scream “surprise!”, but they just kept trickling in and surprising me. (Fortunately, I had cleaned the bathroom and vacuumed up dog hair in prep for our sons and girlfriends coming over…) It was especially nice because we still feel new here and it was heartening to see how many nice people we have met.
To be on topic (finally!): wearing TDC Sublime Balkiss which I love on warm sunny days in particular.
Happy belated!
Happy belated birthday !! Sounds like a great day 🙂
Happy Belated Birthday!
One should celebrate the whole day,I totally agree!❤️❤️
Haha – I celebrate all month!
That’s the spirit! Happy belated birthday wishes from me, as well. ????
Oops, I missed this yesterday—happy belated birthday!
What a fun birthday! Wishing you a very special year.
Happy belated birthday! Sounds like it was a good one!
So glad you had a great day!
How awesome to always have “May the fourth be with you” for a birthday! Happy belated wishes!
Sorry I didn’t wish you well on the big day; please accept my belated happy birthday wishes! (I did some catch-up reading, and the cake you made sounds sooo good. I get the NYT Cooking newsletter several times a week, and constantly have to wipe the drool off my keyboard…)
Love that newsletter!
Thanks everyone! I won’t keep posting about my bday despite celebrating all month. ????
Happy Birthday Weekend…I hope you are still celebrating!
Happy Derby Day also! I took photos the other day of the most gorgeous display of hats in a little store near Bloomies. It so made me wish I had an occasion to need such a hat. Alas, I’m neither heading to the Derby nor invited to the royal wedding…
But we will watch the race. My husband is interested in Justified, who he says is “a monster.” But, one never knows in this race…I wish they reduced the number of horses to make it less of a crapshoot.
With all that said….I’m in Frangipani again because it was just too delicious to not wear again. And I will spray with abandon.
The Derby is on my bucket list. I’ve always felt it was kind of “my” event since it’s always around my bday. Maybe a mint fragrance?
Oh goodness! You have reminded me I have Saint Julep. Think I’ll need to dig that one out.
We went to the Derby about 18 years ago or so. It was great fun, as was the Oaks day before. I didn’t wear a hat, but I dressed up nicely. I generally don’t like fresh mint, but I did quite enjoy the juleps….
I really liked Saint Julep but it vanished instantly on me, unusual for IA. Do you get some longevity?
It is now very faint. So I just saw a bottle of Gabrielle in a store and did a spritz of that too. I now have three scents on but nothing overpowering.
I used love hats, mainly because my grandmother always encouraged me to wear them.
No space in this apt for a hat collection unfortunately.
A few years back, 2 women at Sniffapalooza wore their fascinators the entire day…a little much, methinks.
I’m picking My Boy Jack…mainly because my son’s name is Jack haha!
That’s my pick too! My favorite cat was named Jackson (Andrew Jackson) and I always ended up calling him Jack.
Also, my Dad always said to “bet the odds drop” – it meant the big insiders/high rollers had dropped a bundle on that horse, and My Boy Jack’s odds dropped from 30 – 1 to 5 – 1 today.
Hope y’all win a bundle!
And my Dad said to look for the horse that just pooped and pick that horse.
Hajusuuri, I laughed out loud when I read this.
I swear my dad said the very same thing!
Yes, that was another one of my Dad’s betting favorites. Also, don’t bet a horse that had “washed out” (covered with foamy sweat) pre-race.
Sounds like we all had some racetrackers for fathers!
I saw this morning on the local coverage that they have a drink, Cinco de Derby made with some uber-expensive Patron tequilla ($8,500 per bottle I think they said!) and ONE drink is selling for $1,500.
The sun ain’t shining bright on my old Ky. home…. pouring here. But have a very happy Cinco de Mayo/Derby everyone!
Eh, I don’t appreciate alcohol enough to pay that much for a drink.
Well my goodness. I guess it didn’t matter I had the horse’s name just a bit wrong. Justify. My husband is thrilled, and the cats were skittering during the final stretch as his yelling got louder. I think one if them is still under the bed.
lol! A lot of folks in Ky. kept calling him Justified because of the television show. But yeah, to race that well, and – he beat the “curse of Apollo”, he probably doesn’t care what you call him! 🙂
Going to a Derby Day party this afternoon. After much deliberation I settled on FM’s Eau de Magnolia as my Derby scent. Hope everyone enjoys their margaritas and/or juleps today!
Perfect scent for Derby Day festivities!
Hopefully your party has both margaritas and juleps! Perfect scent.
I’m wearing Haitian Vetiver; it pairs quite well with the black tea infused mint julep I’m now enjoying????
I have trouble with the tea-infused alcoholic beverages. I’m not ever in the mood for both alcohol and caffeine at the same time (now that I’m no longer in college and no longer party all night). Are you less sensitive to caffeine, or more willing to have alcohol early in the day?
I like the flavor of tea in certain cocktails. I don’t need the caffeine. This mint julep happened to be made with a black tea simple syrup. I met a friend for lunch, and the restaurant featured the drink in honor of derby day. The fragrance pairing was just by happenstance.
That sounds delicious!
Myrrhe Eglantine is my SOTD from the sample I ordered off the ‘bay
Usually Hermès and I do not get along, but this one seems not bad. I am wondering what else from this Hermessence line to try?
The last time I mentioned an article in the New Yorker it didn’t get well received by some, but I am going to stick my neck out like a giraffe and say that the article on Morsi in this weeks is fantastic for anyone who is a cat owner or likes cats. Having a cat with 2 smell kids is always interesting, yesterday I found our cat curled up in baby Buddha’s crib..
Saturday mornings are always the same: farmers market, compost, textile recycling with my whole family..
Off to get a manicure and pedicure..
I thought Myrrhe Eglantine was okay. I got crazy about Agar Ebene though.
What is Agar like?
It’s dry and elegant woody perfume. I’ve written a review if that’s helpful.
I will check out your thoughts
If you’re not an oud fan, stay away! It’s a big stinking oud to my nose.
What’s the problem with New Yorker articles? I’ll try to find Morsi, thanks.
I’m a big fan of long form journalism. Check out longform.org
It’s a cool aggregator
I like your Saturday routine.Mine was market/emergency case in theatre/market/afternoon snooze.Just woke up and am ready for late-afternoon Tea.
We are on a similar routine, what afternoon tea are you drinking?
I am having roasted green tea
Kusmi Anastasia for me,with a slice of fresh Jaffa cake from the market!Roasted green sounds yummy.Enjoy!
Happy first May weekend to everyone! Today I was wearing Altaia Yu Son since the morning as I felt the craving for a scent with green tea. Later after a bike ride I switched to Atelier des Ors Nuda Veritas.
I was just writing a review of Aedes Musc Encensé for next week and I think I might be buying it at some point.
On the other hand I feel green tea fragrance are somehow underrated. What are your favorite ones with this note? Ideally tea with neroli or other fresh notes.
Love Neroli Outrenoir by Guerlain!
I tried it but it was very pale on my skin. Plus it’s a black tea, not green 😉
Hi Lucasai!
One of the very few perfumes I am keeping fits your description perfectly and it also happens to be my SOTD: Guerlain’s Secret Intention. A beautiful tea note, a little cardamom, something fresh and green; it’s great for summer.
No SOTD, yet, except some long-lingering Kenzo Amour I sprayed lavishly (including in my hair) yesterday. It feels so pretty and easy in this in-between season, which is just right. Might have to reach for it again. So sad they didn’t keep the old formulation–I must revel in my original bottles until they are drained!
Yes, really too bad to see Amour get replaced by World. Boo.
I am basking in vintage Gres Cabochard this morning. It has surprising heft for an EDT. I only have one tiny sample ml and it’s half gone – think I’ll go research how scarce it is now. Then I’ll go pull weeds. (Apparently I feel like torturing myself today.) 😛
I feel like I’ve seen this one pop up in Goodwill from time to time. If you’re up for some digging, I’ve had the best luck finding frags at the GW on SE 7th, the “fancy” one downtown, or if you’re up for a trek–the GW in Hood River has a whole case devoted to such things. . . Which also happens to be down the street from a local diner that serves homemade maple bars that are A-MA-ZING.
Just sayin’ . . .
It turns out that it isn’t as completely scarce as I was expecting. And since that self-torture plan didn’t pan out, I didn’t pull weeds either. Hah, take that, destiny! I love Hood River, so will keep that suggestion (those suggestionS?) in mind for my next jaunt out that way x thanks!
It’s totally findable! If you are patient you can find really great deals sometimes too.
Happy Saturday! I am wearing AG Nuit Etoilee today.
We are attending a Kentucky Derby party today. Nothing fancy, just a BBQ at a friend’s house. I have to wear a hat though, so I am pinning some pink flowers on a summer, floppy hat I have.
Enjoy your party!
Sound like a fun time.Enjoy!
You smell great! I love Nuit Étoilée.
I pinned flowers on a hat too! Enjoy your day!
So hot today,
On my way to get hair done
Berdoes with the little elephants that charm us so came out today for summer roation.
I have given in and called for a sub on Friday next week so I can finally get my hair done. . . couldn’t find a weekend when I could spare the 3 hours between now and the end of the school year. Hope yours comes out pretty and perfect!
Yay, I have to get my elephants out for the summer too.
Happy Cinco de Mayo!!
SOTD Byredo Black Saffron. An old favorite no-brainer for a busy Saturday!
This morning I went to “The CowHouse”,it’s on the outskirts of the city on Hazeldean Farm.Fantastic market every second Sat/Sun with live music, gorgeous food and stalls…reminds me of a good old Spring Fair!My main reason for visiting was to find the only vendor of Nature Republic skincare products in SA.I recently discovered the Aloe Vera 92% gel.It has become my Holy Grail of effective skincare.Having oily skin and regular breakouts:since using it not even ONE breakout. My skin is supersoft and shine-free without having to blot through the day also.At first I was weary it might be the fake stuff going around, but luckily it is the real deal.Having used and tested MANY things/combinations for my skin, ranging from $0-$2000,THIS is realtively cheap, and it works!Plus it smells WONDERFUL!
Happy Weekend everyone!
X
Is that an Asian skincare brand? I think we have a store here
Yes,they are a Korean brand, and according to the Google quite popular and available EVERYWHERE.Except down in Africa…Glad I found this importer at the market though.
Nice!! Korean skincare is awesome. It’s totally changed my skin too (also oily and prone to breakouts).
Ill have to try the one you mention! 🙂
Please do.It might be a bit dramatic to state but this Aloe from Nature Republic is really now my Holy Grail moisturiser.
I use a few things from Sulwhasoo that was recommended by NSTer Kpaint
I also am a huge fan of Korean makeup cushions
Thanks I will check out the brand you mentioned as well!
Thanks for the heads-up on the Nature Republic skincare. Sounds like it might be worthwhile for me to check it out sometime.
I think it is.I have the difficult combination of oily/sensitive skin, and thought the high percentage Aloe might be too much. But it is soothing and softening.Post-shaving I apply liberally as well.
I fell in love with Korean skincare after my trip there last fall! And I love Nature Republic.
Thats awesome.I would love to try the cherry cleanser,as this aloe one smells really really good.I don’t mind scented face products if it smells like this!
Still windy and not super warm, I’m enjoying Hiram Green Slowdive on this cool spring day.
Perfect cool spring day here too, which was nice after a few days of near-August-level heat.
Hello, dear NSTers! The boyfriend is out of town again to volunteer at a triathlon, so I walked six miles this morning to get doughnuts with a friend. Yes, I could’ve driven the six miles, but (a) I HATE DRIVING SO MUCH, and (b) if I’m going to eat a doughnut, I had better work for it. Besides, it was a simply lovely morning. The Bay Area looks splendid at this time of year (when does it not?), and is in full bloom. We picked some loquats on our way back, because apparently all the trees that I thought were mirabelle trees are actually loquat trees.
Now I’m sipping iced tea while a cat buries his face in my knee. What a sweet little love.
My wrists have Memo African Leather on them; it seems FBW? It’s quite a pricy FB. My elbow has Cabaret, which was presented to me as being similar to Passage d’Enfer–and it really is! I’m told the similarity wears off, but I’ve now had it on for most of an hour, and the PdE-ness is still going quite strong, I’m happy to say. It’s dirt cheap at the discounters. Hmmmm.
I hope your weekends are off to a great start! I’m trying to decide how much work, if any, I would like to do this weekend. None, right?
If you can get away with none, go for it. Too many weekends are eaten up, and you deserve a real break.
That is excellent advice. Why do now what I can do on Monday morning? 🙂 That was just the push I needed to not work today.
It would take a substantial amount of money for me to walk six miles! Good for you! Glad you had some nice friend time.
Hahaha. I actually love walking! That’s one of the things I miss about living in a city–walking a few miles in a city lets you see so many fun things! I’m actually thinking of going out on a few-miles walk after lunch to go see more flowers while listening to podcasts 🙂 Podcasts are almost like friends.
The Bay Area is perfect walking country! Whenever we visit, we easily rack up 20-30K steps a day. I would totally walk 6 miles with you for a perfect donut. ????
None is the correct answer. Also, all that walking completely cancels out the donut. When I ride my bike over to the union for ice cream, I don’t even count those calories.????
Well of course you don’t, and you shouldn’t! Does that mean if I walk a few miles to get some burritos, I don’t have to count my burrito calories either?
Good job on walking for those donuts! I have a similar rule for treats like that… have to walk to get them. I’d say, though, that you should count half the burrito calories… I’ve seen some monster burritos in a few restaurants!
I see the resemblance. Funny enough, I think Cabaret is great… and did not like PdE at all!
Absolutely NO work over a weekend.Although I have to study for an ACLS exam next Friday which sucks.
I love taking walks on the estate where I now live. The full circuit is 12kms,I usually try and do at least 5kms.Beautiful scenery and 12 bridges that crosses the Hennops river.
My Derby Day fragrance is Jour d’Hermes. I’m going to make some finger sandwiches and pick some mint for my juleps. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Can I come over?! You smell great and your food and drink sounds great as well!
You’re welcome anytime! If you want to come over for tea this afternoon, I can make more finger sandwiches. We finished the bourbon, so mint juleps aren’t an option.
Lazy bum, that’s what I am.
Back on the couch and doing nothing. Enjoying our house guest, a sweet little labradoodle that we love. This dog cannot get enough affection which suits me just fine.
Meeting a friend for coffee pretty soon followed by a concert downtown this evening.
Currently wearing Black Cashmere but thinking I might put on some Neroli Outrenoir after a shower. And so happy to be able to put on some summer clothing and open toe shoes.
Sounds like a perfect Saturday to me!
That sounds like a lovely day, and you smell great!
Happy Saturday all! I hope it is sunny and beautiful where you are.????
Sotd is Fleur de Peau.
Okay perfume friends, I am ready to bravely try my first split. Some of you may recall I got a bottle of Berdoues Assam of India at Anthropologie’s after holiday clearance for 35.27. A total steal! BUT I do not need 100 mls of it. I am finally ready to break it open now that the weather is warmer. I would like to split 50-60 mls. I have 10 ml decants on hand and the cost breakdown is: 3.50(perfume)+ .88(decant and mailer)+ 3.50(postage)= $7.88 for each 10 ml decant. If you are interested please email me at pkwisdom in the yahooland. I’m at work this weekend so I may not respond to your email right away. Thanks guys!
Count me in. I’ll email you!
Me too, emailing you now.
You smell beautiful!
Thank you lizbee!
Beautiful day today! I’m stuck at work all weekend but that’s ok. I’m wearing Cristalle, and it is perfect. It’s actually the forth perfume I’ve put on since early this morning, nothing else was fitting.
Hey work weekend twin!????
???????? hello!
Cristalle is always a great choice! Hope you have a good day today.
Thanks! It was actually my first choice, but I second, and third guessed myself. Hope you have a good day too!
You smell great
I’m wearing Ellie Nuit (Ellie D perfumes). It has a nice hay note that I enjoy when the weather starts to warm up.
Oh yum! I guess she has stopped making new perfumes, which is too bad.
I am wearing a mix of so many things that I could not smell anything , I went to a perfume event where I met Andy Tauer and had the opportunity to try Les Années 25 inspired by the vintage perfumes of that era tried also Hyacinth and a Mecanic and so many more….
Oh, lucky you meeting Andy Tauer!
I wore Hyacinth and a Mechanic last week. Was so fun to see folks respond to it–like they thought they smelled *something* but didn’t identify it as my perfume!
Describe Les Annee 25! (And isn’t Andy a total doll?!)
Les années 25 has ginger and lemon opening , dries down to a really nice complex mix of flowers , has a vintage feel with a modern twist. Andy is really nice, enjoyed the event a lot.
How fun!
SOTD = Samsara EdT. One of my desert-island bottles.
I’ll be attending a minor league baseball game with a couple of friends later on today. Looking forward to it!
Mmmm, you smell so nice!
Yay for baseball! Have fun!
Love minor league ball! Have fun!
Yay for MiLB!!
you smell like bliss
You smell great. Hope the game was fun. Minor league games usually are.
Thanks, everyone! I got back really late last night… midnight-ish, so went to bed after the baseball hijinks. Minor league games are definitely a different creature than their major league counterparts. Lots of odd local color in between innings: see “Eyeball Races”. And there was a golden retriever fetching the player’s bats during the first 3 innings of the game. The expected rainy weather did hold off, so fireworks went off after the game for about 10 – 15 minutes. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and told my friends that I’d be up for doing it again sometime.
This sounds delightful. I had never been to a minor league game. A friend of mine used to go to the Newark Bears games.
It is a spectacularly beautiful spring day here at last! The tulips and redbuds are in bloom and there are finally some little leaves on the maple trees, with lots of bright green grass and sunshine and birdsong. Larry the cat and I are hanging out on the front porch with all the windows open, watching the neighborhood go by. Pretty sure our neighbors are having a funeral for a pet across the street; the dad dug a hole and buried a box, and all the family came out and some tears ensued. I’ve watched their little dog run around for more than a decade. Sniffle.
Guess I didn’t need to write a whole column – sotd is Cashmere Mist.
Ah, that sounds like a sad ritual on such a gorgeous day… Hope you and Larry have a lovely afternoon, though!
You smell nice. Hope your neighbors aren’t too distraught over their pet. So sad to lose one.
I love reading the stories.
Me too, NST readers have some great stories 🙂
I love your cat’s name and wish I had my own Larry. There’s just something so perfect about it, and it automatically bestows a big personality and shameless character (in my mind, at least).
Ha! That’s a perfect description of my Larry 🙂 we adopted him from a shelter and that’s the name he came with. He looks a bit like Sylvester the cat from the old cartoons.
I needed the beautiful fresh green of Wrappings this morning. Not sure what I’ll switch to for the evening; it’s turned cloudy with an occasional sprinkle this afternoon, so I might want something a little cozier. Happy Cinco / Derby Day to all!
Have a great day!
Did you ever get to try Wrappings? If not, drop me an email: my avatar at the geeee mail.
Ooooh, Wrappings is a gorgeous pick!
It’s a good one, for sure!
I’m wearing D600 on a lovely spring afternoon. I also want to thank whoever posted about Yoga with Adriene last week. I’m on Day 3 of the 30 Days of Yoga and although my shoulders and abs are killing me, I feel really good otherwise. I like that she’s not preachy about yoga and is very warm and friendly in her videos. Perhaps someday I’ll manage Crow position, but for right now I’m just trying to do a straight, non-sagging plank.
Is this an app or YouTube video or ?
YouTube for me, I don’t know if there’s an app. I can’t do exercise on tiny screens.
Yogawithadriene on YouTube, a vast and eclectic selection of all kinds of yoga practices, both prinyama and heavier vinyasa practices too. You can also download the April calendar from her website, there is a new video every week.
Also 30 days of yoga, which foxbins is doing is a great way of getting motivated too.
I just subscribed to her channel. I haven’t started doing it with her yet so glad to get a recommendation. Thanks!
(To give you a laugh and to *really* date myself – I first did yoga with Lilias Folan from a book pre-video/dvr days!)
I remember yoga with Lilias! It seems like it was on PBS. I didn’t really practice much, just envied her hair. Just telling it like it is (was).
Yes! She had that really long, thick braid. 70’s…
(The date, not quite my age…yet!)
Looking forward to hearing how u get on!
I’m not a big fan of social media, but this blog and yoga with Adrienne make me happy.
I suppose a good teacher is timeless!
Hi foxbins, that was me, I’m so glad it’s working for u too! Adrienne is so inspiring, like u say, down to Earth, and easy going, I love that she really emphasises individuality, and that everybody practising is on their own journey, and not to get caught up in the perfect pose, and being yourself is what matters most.
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend.
Woo hoo, Derby day AND Cinco de Mayo! Started off making crepes for brunch for my love (he loves crepes with Nutella and strawberries so much). Lounged in the sun a bit and the cut some flowers to make me a homemade Derby hat. ???? Now just watching the races. Later will go to some friend’s house and eat tacos!
I’m in Philosykos just because it’s wonderful on a sunny day. Was wishing for L’Ombre dans l’Eau originally (I drained my decant last summer) but Philosykos is filling in nicely!
Crepes sound delicious. And Philosykos is perfect. Hope the horse you bet on wins!!
Your day sounds perfect. And you smell like Spring!✌????
Love Philosykos – you smell heavenly.
hope you had a good day yesterday…
So late to the party it might as well be tomorrow. I’m in Salomé today! WooWeee! This smells just a *bit* more intense in warm weather!
Better late than never..
Salomé!! For all the complaining I do about samples, I really ought to be ashamed… but… I caved during the recent STC anniversary sale and ordered samples of the Papillon scents. I’ve wanted to try them for soooo long.
Started the day in Hermes “Brin de Reglisse”, but wasn’t really feeling it. Now in the last drops of a decant of Creed “Virgin Island Water”. Both worn for a warm sunny day – TOMK and I went into the City Centre to the markets and then had lunch in a great Taiwanese street food place. Afterwards we took the train about half way home and then continued walking along the canal. Apart from the usual Canada geese and Mallard ducks we saw moorhens and a pair of herons, plus several passing narrowboats chugging along.
Yesterday I had the 2nd day of a re-certification course in (Business) Change Management and the exam – I feel like I did okay, should find out in a week or so. I had to move my 3rd interview for the Barcelona job to Monday.
Good Lucy with the exam, and the interview on Monday!
Luck, not Lucy!
Happy Saturday!
Montale Vanilla Cake today.
I tried it earlier this week and had trouble smelling it but no problem today. I am not sure why. I wonder if my nose has been inundated with so much vanilla it was not registering it. Or perhaps hormones. I think my sniffer is affected by the monthly hormone cycle at times. Either way I am relieved. I hate it when I lose my sense of smell when I have a cold, etc. I feel lost when I can’t smell. Very disoriented.
Back to the fragrance…it is lovely, buttery vanilla. Not that dissimilar to Vanille Absolu from the same line which I just ordered a FB of. Will have to compare them.
Spent half of the day running errands. I stopped at Bath & Body Works to try their new mousse to body oil that was one of the NST daily lemmings a few weeks ago. Very nice. Since they are on sale for mother’s day at $6 dollars each, I ended up buying the 3 scents available: Pink Gardenia, Chamomile and Honey and Wild Rose and Apple. The scents are very light florals and pleasant. My favorite Chamomile and Honey. They are not sweet at all, which is the tendency with most of their products. I took a shower as soon a I arrived home and applied the Pink Gardenia. Two pumps of the mousse are more than enough to cover the whole body. It absorbs very quick and it leaves the skin pretty soft. I know everyone’s skin is different, but it works for me very well.
The rest of the day I watched the Derby coverage on TV. I made a bowl of guacamole with pita chips and drank 2 beers. I did not have a favorite horse, but was happy to see Justify win the race.
One of my sisters will stop by for dinner in a while. She and her husband will cook, which I appreciate. No energy or desire at all to do anything this weekend. Just want to be quiet and rest.
Have a great weekend NST!
Sounds like a good day! Hope you enjoy your company this evening????
Thank you Deva! We have a very pleasant time.
Nice! Enjoy your new mousses. Yay for Justify! My choice came in second, so I’m happy, too.
Good Magic did a wonderful job too!
Might have to try those body mousses.
Give them a try. They are pretty simple and not overwhelming at all. If you apply them after the shower they absorb much faster.
Sounds like you had a pretty good Saturday! Hope that your Sunday has followed suit.
Nice Saturday and very quiet day today at home. I cannot complain! ????
I don’t use scented body lotion but that Honey & Chamomile mousse oil sounds very tempting. Thanks for the daily lemming reminder! You may get an enabler’s pin next week!
Even when you are applying it the scent is super light that you will barely notice it. After 20 minutes it is almost gone. So it should work pretty well for you and they are now more than 50% off. For 6 dollars, they are basically “free”.
Thank you so much for the detailed review, so glad to hear they are decent, and don’t leave an oily finish. Very tempted by the Honey & Chamomile.
They are nice. I will not repurchase them, because I use body lotions most of the time. Dry oils I use only once in a while. But for the price they are pretty good.
SotD = sweat, a few tears, and 4711
It was H O T today.
Oh my stars and battle cruisers, I watched Rogue One for the first time Friday night. Enjoyed every minute! I often hide my eyes when a movie has so many casualties. This time I was jumping up on my feet, shouting at the screen, and gasping at the spectacle. It felt like I was back in the theater where I first watched Star Wars so many years ago. After Rogue One ended we started watching Episode IV. The visual continuity is perfect.
Chirrut Îmwe is my newest hero. I am one with the force and the force is with me.
I need to watch Rogue One. So far behind. Glad to hear that it was enjoyable like in the beginning.
I liked Rogue One too. Thought it was much better than Force Awakens…
Awesome film! Very entertaining.
Tauer Incense Rose – heading out soon to meet Andy at Etiket!
Have fun!
Have fun, I was there yesterday and it was great.
There is a new scent Les années 25
Let me know what you think
It was great to see Andy again! He is such a sweetheart. His new LE scent Les Années 25 is a lovely retro/vintage floral. He said it will be up for sale on his website in a couple of weeks. If you are a Guerlain fan, you need to give this one a sniff.
Thank you.
That sounds so fun! Did you buy?
He only brought 6 bottles with him and they sold out Saturday, I will place my order online in a week or so when it goes up on his website.
Only 6!
I’m happily wafting California Reverie this morning. I received my bottle yesterday – I ordered it from fragrancenet and didn’t look too closely at the size, so I was very surprised to open it and find it was the largest size. It was an even better deal than I had realized!
My cat is curled up and purring on my lap and we’re listening to the birds sing. I hope everyone has a peaceful and restorative day.
You smell great! And SCORE on the big bottle! What a nice surprise.
Such a pretty one.
What a lovely morning! Smelling good and with a purring cat.
Can I offer you an enabler pin? I’d forgotten how much I liked it, and when I checked the price after reading your post….well, you earned your pin!!
I am attending my nephew’s college graduation ceremony. Scent for the event is De Produndis.
I wore No 19 yesterday for new car shopping. ????
Buying a new car is such fun!
That’s funny. I don’t really enjoy it much but my car is over 12 years old so I can’t put it off any longer. ????
Aw, congrats to your nephew for his college commencement!
We’re very proud of him. He worked really hard and graduated with high honors.
Dilettante to match the bright sunshine. Lots and lots of good research time this weekend–though it means more time in the study and less time out in the park than I would like. (Though, drinking coffee on the stoop and making some notes while saying hi to all the neighbours’ doggos in the sunshine was a good start to my day today.)
And a lovely evening walk home from town with my beloved after seeing the new Avengers film yesterday. So happy the long light is back. It’s the real bonus of being this far north.
I love evening walks in this light, too. Haven’t tried Dilettante yet. Will have to rectify soon.
If you like orangey fragrances, then do try and get your paws on some to try. (I was lucky enough to get a super-cheap almost-FB being sold off on ebay. which is good as the travel sizes are next to impossible to get in the UK)
I don’t always, but the ones I do love, I looooove. Sounds like you got a great deal! Those travel sizes are pretty reasonable, too.
Crikey I’m your twin! Dilettante is my favourite orangeblossom and my current favourite. Wonderful.
I’m in Daim Blond today, which got rave reviews from my guy when I wore it last night. Gotta get a FB. And I have seen it at the discounters for $50-$60. At that price, a FB can be one of many Mother’s Day gifts to myself.
I have a couple Mother’s Day gifts to myself picked out also haha!
???? We deserve it all!
Up early-ish for me, saw a golden eagle circling over the canyon. I know they’re always here, but they’re shy, I only see one perhaps once a year. Lovely.
Meanwhile, stressing out about jury selection tomorrow. I so do not want to be picked! Tomorrow will tell; either I’ll be set free or I’ll be stuck on this jury until JULY. ***Yikes***
What a treat to see the eagle.
Wishing you best of luck in being rejected!
It’s a first for me to also say something like “I hope you get rejected tomorrow!”Lol.
Interesting concept you guys have of a jury.I just wonder, how does this work?Being picked for a jury selection in the first place?Do they randomly pick some US citizens and then phone you?If someone would be so kind to explain…????????♂️lol.
Back to awesomeness:SOTD Opus VIII.Perfection on a pre-Winter day.
I googled “jury duty selection”and got the answer.Plus watched a youtube video:”what to wear for jury duty”.Hilarious.
The reason we don’t want to be picked most of the time, is because it is disruptive to real life. But it’s a right that I think we should have ( trial by jury of your peers) that said, there are some flaws in the system that should be addressed. Just trying to explain why we are crossing fingers. Not trying to be political.
I agree Lillyjo. Everyone I know complains when they are picked for jury duty, while I wonder why I have only been picked once…and then was rejected because the court stenographer recognized me from the gym. (Apparently your are supposed to be “anonymous” to everyone involved.
Yet I have never missed voting even once in my entire eligible life, including the primaries. Go figure.
Thanks guys!
I can see how it is a good/bad thing.Just a note:my comment “hilarious” was only about the youtube video about what to wear to NOT be selected.I do get it is a serious matter, and also that being called for it can be disruptive to your life, but that it is also a priviledge to have that right in a free and democratic world.
And a duty! That said, it is also a huge relief to show up for your panel and then not get picked. Good luck pixel!
July?!! Wow, that would not be good. I was picked a few years ago and trial went for a month. Interesting experience but messes with your life.
Hope you don’t get picked!
Fingers crossed for your rejection haha!
Hope you don’t get picked, keep us posted.
Fingers crossed that jury duty works out the way you want it to! ????
I just got home from walking/jogging in a 5k fun run. It was my first one! I had a lot of fun, and it was at a beautiful park with an amazing view of Mt. Rainier on a cloudless day. There was a mix of clouds and sun this morning, but maybe next time I’m there. I wore about 10-12 sprays of Neroli Dore because it was light and refreshing, and I knew it would be gone by the time I got home. So now I put on TF Orchid Soleil because I was walking near someone who smelled like coconut, and it got me craving a beachy scent.
Yesterday, I wore ELdO Une Amourette, sampling it for the first time. Boy, that akigalawood patchouli aroma chemical lasts forever. I could still smell it after my shower last night, so I applied another synthetic powerhouse Bond No 9 West Side. It’s one of the few Bonds I really enjoy.
Now off to brunch. I worked off the hard boiled egg, cheese, and fruit that I ate early this morning!
Sounds like a great day!
Congratulations on your first fun run!
Not sure if anyone will see this, but I went to Church this morning and all of a sudden realized that I need an insence fragrance! The churchy kind, not the stick burning kind. I don’t even know where to begin. Any suggestions? My sotd is Coromandel, I’m getting salt from this one now i think due to my sinus issues. Ugh, maybe my skin is just turning salty.
Churchy incenses I like are CdG Avignon, Heeley Cardinal, and Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures.
Definitely going to check out the CdG. Thanks!
Of course someone will see your post! ????
Comme des Garcons Series 3 Avignon is definitely a church-y incense… reminds me of Catholic high masses when one of the celebrants is swinging the censer down the aisle.
Yes! That’s the smell, thanks!
Armani Prive Bois d’Encens is beautiful one to try.
I’ve really liked the APs I’ve tried. Just not the price!
Annick Goutal’s Encens Flamboyant or superchurchy Unum Lavs.
Thanks for the recamendation, not familiar at all with Goutals, will have to rectify.
Definitely, Avignon and Tom Ford Sahara Noir. Sahara was discontinued, but you can find samples and decants easily.
Sad thing is a few years back I really loved the Sahara Noir bottle, but the perfume itself, wasn’t what I was looking for, and I couldn’t justify buying it for the bottle alone. Of course, kicking myself now.
I always loved it, but never bought a full bottle since I could not justify the price, like you. I regret it deeply now.
Sahara Noir!
I tested that one SOOOOO many times,it was always on a maybe list. Now kicking myself for not getting a bottle as well.I made sure I stocked up on Violet Blonde though!
I am also kicking myself. It was always on my top 5 perfumes to purchase and I never did. I survive now with decants here and there ????.
I agree with Foxbins. But I do think the “churchiest” sent is Avignon. I own all the CdG Avignon Series and love them all, but rarely have I ever worn Avignon. Perhaps because I was brought up Catholic and it is the one that is the closest to the incenses wafted through the church during certain services.
Avignon gets my vote every time.Heeley Cardinal might be a good one to test as well.
Heeley recently came out with Eau Sacre. It’s very similar to Cardinal but just toned down a little. It’s a little easier to wear. It’s on my FB list.
Oh!Thanks!I will investigate myself!
Dang, my to try list is getting long. Thanks!
Enjoying a relaxed Sunday while Mr. Jalapeno is smoking ribs for dinner tonight. We’ll see how this batch turns out… we used a different wood for smoking, and a different rub. Also changed the cooking method a bit.
SOTD = ELdO’s Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection, from the sample stash.
Enjoy your dinner. What’s your take on RdP?
It’s a dark rose with an unusual spicy open to it. Very distinct notes of black pepper and ginger.
Those ribs sound great! Please, send some here! ????
I think we maybe have figured out how to do them right this time!
You smell great! I love the combination of rose and ginger. I suppose tbat why I love Lyric as well.
YUM, my favorite thing. Hope they turned out great!
SOTD = Bruno Fazzolari Ummagumma (Ummagaga according to my brain)
I have a partial bottle. On first spritz it reminded me of Mitzah and as it dried down, it morphed into Coromandel. How fabulous is that!
Yesterday, I wore Armani Prive Pierre de Lune from a sample. On first spritz, it reminded me quite a bit of Purple Rain / Infusion d’Iris Absolue and decided money saved since I already have both. The drydown was quite different in that it reminded me of the drydown of Iris Poudre!
How weird that the two perfumes I wore this weekend ended up being parts of two other perfumes!
The Ummagumma sounds great!
Wow! I need to pull out my sample!
Sprayed brought out the Mitzah / Coromandel combo.
Wobbled my way through another Yoga with Adriene and have rewarded my four days of diligence by making a Chess Pie, mostly because I had all the ingredients. I’ve never tasted one, if I don’t like it the guy next door has a sweet tooth…
Tonight I see Judy Collins and Stephen Stills in concert. I am wearing the divine Tuberose Gardenia and I’m sure I’ll still be wafting some this evening.
Enjoy the concert! What a great pair to see!
What fun, hope the concert is fantastic!
SOTD Guerlain L’heure Bleue.
Busy wk-end with the Derby & Mothers Day. Wore Volutes for the Derby, because of its’ hay note, and Samsara for today, because my family likes it on me. My backyard chipmunk brought out her 2 babies this morning , for their debut. I had to laugh. Sometimes Mother Nature gets it just right. Happy Mothers Day to all.
Hi, I wanted to get an opinion, I was gifted anything I want from the Diptyque Boutique (My son’s gift for mother’s day) . I really don’t know what to pick, it’s between these Tam Dao, or Vetyverio, I used up all my decants Oh! and Eau Duelle and feel sad.. at the same time I feel that I need all of them. Any how he gifted me just one. I have to pick it up Saturday before Mother’s Day and Thanks for your help. Wish one should I get? I know I could use them in Spring and Summer and I Love all three.
correction: which one should I get?
I vote for Tam Dao because the creamy sandalwood is so satisfying, and it works on so many occasions.
That’s my vote too. Plus, it layers nicely!
Thanks you two I will get the Tam Dao EDP!! just needed some inspiration!
I’ve had some time off from work so I helped a friend move from Salt Lake City to California. The word stressful doesn’t even begin to describe driving a 26 foot Penske moving truck from Utah to California. So I popped by South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa and bought myself a bottle of Frédéric Malle Eau de Magnolia. This perfume will always remind me of California beach towns in May.
You enjoy your new bottle of FM Eau de Magnolia! a great stress reliever!
