Hump Day, plus International Louie Louie Day and World Parkinson’s Disease Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am commando, trying not to succumb to the flu. So far, the flu is winning.
Reminder: 4/13 will be Monopoly Friday. You Inherit $100....wear the fragrance (presumably from a sample or decant, but it could be from a bottle if you're planning to replace or stockpile) that you'll buy with your windfall. It has to be something you can actually buy for $100 or less! (If you never played the board game Monopoly, this is based on one of the "Community Chest" cards.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hope you feel better Robin. This probably sounds awful but chicken broth with a few jalapeños slices does wonders.
I’m anticipating sun and warmer weather today so I chose Friedemodin Feu Follet. The softer side of leather and lavender
Have a great day all.
I have some homemade chicken broth defrosting right now. Don’t have any jalapeno slices on hand, so will have to take your word for it!
Robin, I had the flu a few weeks ago and I still don’t feel up to par. The chicken broth will help and so will a hot toddy (tea with honey, lemon and whiskey).
Oh, hot toddy might happen later this afternoon! Or, could just pour the whiskey in my next cup of broth 😉
That will work!
PS Robin, hot and sour soup can do wonders too, at least in unclogging nasal passages!
Thank you! I need to do way more advance planning for my next illness.
Hey, Downtown Scott, that’s pretty close to one of my favorite “I’m sick” remedies! I like egg drop soup with lots of fresh jalapeno slices in it.
???????? There were times at work when I would go downstairs for Pho Broth/Jalapenos if I needed a pick me up.
It’s a nasty flu virus this year, Robin, I hope you feel better soon. Broth will help!
Thank you!
Neela Vermeire Ashoka.
On a separate note I tried LV’s Roses des Vents yesterday. Nice rose scent but it does not impress me as much as Le Jour se Leve or Mille Fuex.
You smell good!
Bois 1920 Sutra Ylang, from a sample. It’s so cold out today (it LOOKS like spring but it isn’t, not really) that I figured I could get away with a warm eighties-style floral oriental, heavy on the woody-ambery base notes. It’s so good.
Sutra Ylang is really good. I have it in a travel spray that they no longer sell (18ml, I think). I should give it a wearing soon.
I don’t see Sutra Ylang mentioned often. It is a nice scent for a cold day. I bought a decant after reading a review but never felt the need for a FB. It is very nice though. You smell great today!
I hope you will recover soon, no point in fighting it, flu Always wins in the end.
I’m wearing Le parfum de Thérèse, just fab!
You smell great!
Thank you! And you do smell just fab.
You gave me a small vial of it, remember, in the swapmeet?????
After trying it myself, I gave it (together with a whole bunch of other samples) to my mother. To cheer her up while she was recovering and being in bed most of the day.
I have not heard yet if she likes it, but she seems to prefer fruity and floral, so I hope she might like/love it.
Iwas a bit too fruity for my taste to fall for it completely. But i can tell its a great scent and you smell fab indeed!
I remember very well. I don’t find Thérèse that fruity to be honest, but apparently it is. I hope your mum enjoys it.
Is she doing ok?
You are totally right, it is not THAT fruity,
Its me.
I am kinda picky/fussy/childish when it comes to fruit notes. When I detect the slightest trace of melon or red fruit or peach, my brain goes “OMG its fruity, I smell like a fruitbasket, i attract flies” ????
In other words: I may need to educate myself some more when it comes to fruit notes ????
My mom is doing better every week. So glad.
And she does not need an operation, the specialists think some meds and a diet will keep her going! ????
Eau de Neroli Dore, since it’s pretty warm outside. I’m pretty happy with the lasting power on this one, a bit of a surprise.
Sadly waiting on some new tires but I’ve been putting it off. I’m glad for our to finally be done!
Oh, I totally glazed over your malady, Robin! I hope you get over it quickly!
And I hope your tires don’t take forever! You do smell great.
Feel better soon, Robin! I will back up Dowtown Scott’s suggestion, in a slight variation: Hot chicken broth, Thai red curry paste, and a squirt of lime juice does wonders for a cold, and probably won’t do you wrong with the flu, as long as you’re up to eating.
(Intended to go commando today for the office, except that a touch of TF Venetian Bergamot seems to be lingering on my skin from last night, even post-shower this morning. I don’t find it a bergamot scent, really, but — wow, hi, persistence!)
I’m going to try out that recipe. I often use chicken broth and jalapeños when I’m congested from allergies. I like your gourmet twist. ????
Echoing Sandman’s recommendation–spicy chicken soup is the best, and Thai-style is my favorite for combating illness. Hope you feel better, Robin.
That soup recipe sounds great. It’s kind of giving me a craving for Thai food right now.
No limes but might have some Thai red curry paste left, thanks for the idea!
Rage, rage against the coming of the flu. Or at least rest, drink fluids and feel better soon!
Wearing original NR Musc Oil for Her today. Pretty close to a signature scent for me—if I had a signature, which I don’t.
Thank you springpansy! I thought I might get through the whole winter without the flu, but ha 🙂
Feel better, Robin. Today I’m wearing Ostara. I picked up three 7.5 ml rollerballs of this a few months ago, and I like the scent. Don’t know why it was discontinued. Luckily, eBay has a good selection of full bottles still available for under $100 if I run out anytime soon.
I adore Ostara and have considered getting a nice supply of it before it inevitably goes up in price.
I like to be prepared. 😉
I still haven’t managed to smell this yet, despite it’s periodic appearance here, with associated positive comments. Might have to get me one of those rollerballs!
Lisa D, I have a mostly full manufacturers sample I would be glad to send you. I was also curious about this one because it gets so many praises and a five star review over at BdJ. I have also seen at least one commenter say (I apologize to those that love it) that it smelled like dirty vase water, and sadly that’s what I got.???? I would be happy to rehome it! Shoot me an email at pkwisdom in the land of yahooo.
I’m one of those that gets swamp water in the base. Loved the first half, though. For anyone mourning the DC of Ostara, I thought Ann Gerard Perles de Mousse was very similar, also Duchaufour (and the base didn’t turn swampy on me).
Hmm, I’ll have to compare Perles de Mousse with Ostara as I have them both. I LOVE Ostara passionately, it’s one of my few backup bottles. Liked Perle de Mousse but not as passionately, so you comment intrigues me! https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2016/05/04/may-muguet-marathon-perle-de-mousse/
I love Ostara and own a full bottle. I don’t understand why it was discontinued…especially not long after it was launched.
Beautiful, sunny day here. Still a bit cold but 75 on Saturday?! Yes, please!
In Rose de Siwa today. Pretty, spring rose.
I opened my driver’s license renewal notice last night and expected to do the usual online renewal but they now have 3 new categories and the former license won’t be good for flights or federal buildings, which means I have to go to the DMV with lots of documents. Arghhh!
I have many opinions about the nature of this change but might veer into the socio-political realm so I’ll save it for my poor husband over dinner ????
And I hope you feel better, Robin!
Thank you!
Best of luck at the DMV. Did you happen to see the animated movie Zootopia? (I highly recommend it, BTW, and suitable for all ages.) The city is run by animals and the DMV by sloths. It was quite funny. And, if anyone here works at the DMV, no offense intended!
That movie was great fun!
Sounds cute! I’ll have to check it out.
Ugh, I lost my license in December and had too get it replaced. I scrounged up all the necessary documents, only to have the helpful lady look me up by SSN. I was annoyed, though not by her.
Hope your wait is quick and that you brought a good book.
Thanks! Not happening today…
Can you travel to Canada with one of those, though? It’s the enhanced, right? They seemed like a good idea when I heard or read a story on them but I can’t remember why.
There’re 3 kinds: “Real”, “Enhanced”-yes, can cross borders with that one- and standard-you can basically just drive and drink(not together!).
Oh, that’s a real drag. What Coumarin said…bring a good book and maybe even a snack. Good luck to you!
And a binky ????
Holy cow! I just am so over nonsense. And do you think they hired additional staff to more efficiently manage the (probably huge) influx of people needing to come in person? Highly unlikely! I will send a prayer to the DMV gods but pretty sure they will ignore it. So sorry you have to waste your time like this. What do they do with people who work M-F 9-5 and need to renew?
It’s not really the waiting, though that’s always a complete drag. They’re making it more difficult for people to get an ID, fly etc. Seems like some sort of weeding process, IMO.
I get your train of thought, but I don’t actually think that’s what the impetus is. Some states have had enhanced-only for like 10 years or something. I want to say a lot of them are northern states.
I’m about to go through that process. Am toting my birth certificate with me back from CA. My SS card is in storage. Planning to renew everything.
My anxiety is I’m not sure where my SS card is and my passport needs renewal so it’s beyond a day at the DMV… Though it says starting 2020, you’ll need the “Real ID” (I can’t believe they’re calling it that) to get on a flight. Might just get standard online renewal so I have 1.5 years til that new rule kicks in.
And guess what. I stopped in tSA office to check on paying for preclear. The birth certificate I have is not what they need. It is hospital. Not registrar. So, I need to obtain the certified one. Oh well.
Ugh. Sorry! I mailed away for mine when I was in Sacramento in Dec. It took about 3-4 weeks to finally get my certified copy.
I plan to do nothing about this Real ID thing. I have three passports that will work just fine.
You’re in luck. My passport expired a while back and haven’t renewed it yet, so partly my own negligence in having to deal with this.
But then are passports no longer necessary? IDK why I’m asking all these questions here when I could just go look it up 😐
The new “Real ID” license is for domestic travel. Passports obv still needed for international. So if I renew my current “standard” one online now, in 2020 I won’t be able to use it as ID for a domestic flight.
On the plus side, you smell beautiful Elisa P! On the minus side, you’re at the DMV. I wish I had the option of online renewal for my license, but I don’t. It’s kind of a PITA.
And this year I was able to renew my photo driver’s license by mailing in the form they sent me! Four year old picture? No problemo.
I had already re-used my DL photo once, and it was taken with my glasses on. The last time I renewed, I had to take my glasses off for the picture. I felt naked in front of that camera. ????
Oh, I didn’t go today. I’d really need to take part of the day off. But, thank you! As beautiful as you smelled yesterday!
And I’ve had the same photo for the last 15 years! I kinda wonder why they don’t/didn’t require us to update every so often.
SOTD is Le Galion Iris.
Very pretty!
Nice!
Feel better, Robin. It’s that time of year.
I didn’t do much sniffing in New York, I spent most of my time at the Met and MoMA but I did manage to try the two new Dyptiques: Tempo and Fleur de Peau at Barneys. At first Tempo smelled strong and intriguingly gourmand, to me it was kind of a really strong patchouli, too strong for me at the beginning, middle and even in the dry down. In contrast, Fleur went on almost without scent – the SA recommended I do a couple sprays and then walk around outside to get the scent. I agree with the review here (was it Kevin’s?) that FdP is kind of a snuggly smell as opposed to sexy frag. I though I wouldn’t like it at all. But you know I was really surprised. About an hour after application and all evening I kept getting these wafts of sweet white musk, salt and very subtle florals. When I woke up the next day, the scent was still on my hand and even after I took a shower it was still there. Even now, two days later after washing my hands several times, doing the dishes etc, I can still smell it on my hand. And I really quite like the subtlety of it in tandem with this epic kind of dry down. It seems to have moved in and just stayed. Now I can see if someone really dislikes this frag and can’t get it off themselves that wouldn’t be great, but I actually quite like it. I like it a lot!
Doesn’t it make you wonder what aroma chemicals were used in it to produce that half-life effect? 😉
Yes! Makes me nervous when a fragrance lasts more than 24 hours.
It’s still detectable on my hand after 48 hours, so yeah.
Great review Sajini, although I can’t decide if it makes me want to try it more or less! But so glad you found a winner.
Thanks Robin. After I read Kevin’s review I was kind of ambivalent about it because it just didn’t sound like the kind of thing I go for. I especially didn’t want to think I would like something that millennials would go for! But inexplicably I really like it.
Thanks for your review of Fleur du Peau! As I was reading it, I was like: yes, yes, yes! I had the same experience, went on barely noticeable so added more and then got those lovely wafts of floral/musk. I also could smell it on my wrists the next morning and have a hoodie that smells like it. I drained my sample in two days! I love it!
Yep there’s something super addictive about it for me. I don’t know about a fb, but if it were available in a 2ml or even travel size I might get it.
Will be surprised if there isn’t a travel spray or rollon.
I hope you get well soon, Robin!
I am wearing Thebes today. What a beauty.
Narcisusses are blooming everywhere right now. I love the smell of those flowers.
Oh, I do too!
I love how they can be both green, sunny, and uplifting but also spicy, bittersweet and mysterious.
I also love it in perfume. I think narcisus/daffodil, together with jasmine, is a dominant flower note in my perfume collection.
Hmmmm… don’t know Thebes perfume, but what a great name for a perfume. Makes me think of Antigone and Creon and the magic of Greek tragedy when I was reading it in high school!
You are not far off! Thebes is the Greek name of an old Egyptian city. ????
Its a fragrance by Sultan Pasha Attars. It was inspired by/ a homage to Guerlain’s Djedi.
Oh sorry, Oakland Fresca…you probably already knew that about Thebes ???? haha. Dont know why I went into ‘womansplaining mode’ all of a sudden. ????
I did not read that much Greek in high school, I had Latin though…we had to translate the whole Pro Milone by Cicero. It was not that magical.
The Metamorphoses by Ovid were though. We had to read/translate Pyramus and Thisbe (?spelling?). That was sooooo romeo and juliet.
Oh wow, fellow fragrance-loving former students of classical languages! Six years of Latin before college, four years during college; two years of ancient Greek in high school, four years in college. And I had no idea about Thebes the perfume, so thank you for that! I also love narcissus/daffodil fragrances and flowers, so it sounds like one I would like. No complaint here about “womansplaining”!
Latin 6 years
Greek 3 years
In high school.
????
So its a long time ago and if you give me a latin text right now, Id struggle so hard haha.
The narcissus comment was related to the outdoors…not the fragrance.
Thebes is all about lily of the valley, iris, vetiver and animalic musks to my nose.
Sultan Pasha has listed following notes on his eBay page:
Top:
bergamot, muguet, aldehydes, Persian rose otto
Middle:
orris butter, Bulgarian rose absolute, Jasmine Grandiflorum absolute, musk
Basenotes:
vetiver, Amber, ambergris, musk, animalics
So sorry about the flu, Robin. Have you ever tried Emergen C powdered drink mixes? They are loaded with vitamins to boost your immune system. I hope you feel better.
I am wearing Atelier Jasmin Angelique today.
I have seen those but can’t use them — wrong forms of several B vitamins for my (mutant!) genetic profile. But thanks, and don’t worry, I am covering all the bases — and then some! — with vitamins today.
Not on theme today, but am wearing Gentiane Blanche, as it is perfect for spring, and I only have about 4-5 more wears before finishing this bottle, yay!
Gentiane Blanche is a lovely scent. I hope to get a bottle soon, as it is so cooling for summer. Whenever I sprayed it (froman old sample), it felt like the sun hiding behind a dense cloud.
And will you replace it?
No. It started off as a really intriguingly weird scent, and it has gotten less weird over time–I don’t like the way it has mellowed as much. It’s still nice, but not 2nd full bottle worthy. There are definitely other things I’d rather spend my money on.
Well, at least you drained it! I have not made as much progress in my Pamplemousse Rose as I should have by now.
I hope you get over the flu quickly Robin! I would add ginger and honey tea (fresh slices of ginger) to the list, if you can manage it.
My mom passed away from Parkinson’s just over a year ago. My heart and prayers go out to those suffering from this terrible disease, and every bit as much to the family members and caregivers that help them *every day*.
Okay, deep breath. I’m in SL Chene today, thanks to nicolasix and the swapmeet. We have beautiful weather here, but the house is chilly, so the warmth of Chene is quite welcome.
I hope everyone has a lovely day!
Chene…you smell great!
My dad had Lewy Body Dementia and it presents with Parkinsonian symptoms. It’s a hard, hard thing to be a part of and care for.
Thinking of all the many caregivers and those who struggle without a cure.
Big hugs to you, apsara. My mom had Lewy Body Dementia also, in her last five years with us, and those changes might be more devastating than the Parkinson’s side of the coin.
I do believe that our loved ones are restored and at peace now. And we can heal, too. <>
equals hugs. Ugh.
My heart goes out to you, Aspara. I’ve cared for many people with Lewy Body and it’s physically and emotionally difficult for families and caregivers.
My Dad, too. It was an awful time. Hugs to anyone dealing with this.
I’m sorry about your mom and agree on your caregivers sentiment. Hugs.
You smell great!
Thanks, Undina. ????
Adding more hugs & sympathy, Nancyleandros.
Thanks, Robin, feel better soon!
My mother has Parkinson’s too. I fervently hope it’s not inherited.
You smell wonderful in Chêne.
I’m sorry to hear that, cazaubon. It’s a lot more prevalent than people know.
And yes, I deeply hope it is not inherited.
Big hugs to you and apsara
Thanks Kanuka. I’m not sure I commented, but I was glad to see your post, that Alex was walking on his own a bit! I’m sure that feels wonderful.
It is such a difficult illness. I have a youngish (50s) friend who is in early stages so he’s out traveling the world now while he can.
Hugs to you!
He is wise. My folks spent a lot of time exploring the US on the back of a motorcycle in their 50’s and 60’s.
Your friend will undoubtedly have a lot of fun, and memories to look back on later. ????
Sympathy and gentle hugs, apsara and nancyleandros.
This was really Nancyleandros thread about her mom, but thank you for the kind words and thoughts.
Everyone on my dads’ side has had LBD. When my mom died at 95 last winter, she was blind from Macular Degeneration. My sister and I have this thing about being really old, blind and demented or going out like Thelma & Louise.
I have not posted very much in the past few weeks. Even though I was born in the spring – May I will turn 65 – here’s looking at YOU Medicare… I am a fall and winter fragrance person.
The day I left my contract in PA when I was going to go to NYC with my sister
we had a death in the family of a service member in Iraq. He was only 37 – much too young. The family has been devastated and shocked with young nieces and nephews old enough to understand.
So, I have been reading along and interviewing for my next project and getting that birth certificate from NY for Medicare enrollment ( 24 hours to get) and just wearing simple fragrances.
I have been going the sample route rather that FB blind buys…only took a decade to make that decision and purchasing a few quiet, under that radar scents.
The last few days I have been wearing Lisa Hoffman Japanese Agarwood, which is quite lovely with nice staying power all day. Reminds me a bit of my much loved Satori and also Kyoto. Also I have really enjoyed goop incense and bottle sizes are small for travel. Just typing goop looks silly, but I did use the entire bottle up. That is saying something these days.
I have a birthday wish bottle all picked out. it is a little over the monopoly money price of 100 clams, so am sending little notes to friends about good gift ideas for such a momentous age!
Hi apsara, I think this thread ‘belongs’ to many of us, which is sad, but comforting, maybe in some small sense? If we share our burdens, maybe we can feel a bit less alone.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your family member. That must have been shocking, especially to the younger family members.
I hope you can do something fun for your birthday next month. It sounds like you already have a special bottle picked out!
Smelling great in Chene. And agree, big hugs and many thanks to the caregivers. As a child my best friend’s grandfather often went missing due to Parkinson’s related memory lost. All the kids in the neighborhood would get on their bikes to search for him, the adults in cars and on foot.
Just remembered your comment about visiting Muir Woods! It’s truly a special place. I hope I can visit again someday and spend more time. We had a few hours there. A full day would have been wonderful. I was told that very soon the number of visitors will be limited, a reservation will be required to enter and park a car. I guess there is concern Muir Woods will be loved too well.
It’s disquieting, how many of us have had brushes of experience with PD at some point.
I hadn’t heard that about Muir Woods, but it’s probably a good idea to have some limits on visitor numbers. As long as it’s a first come, first served deal…
Hugs to Nancyleandros and apsara. I vaguely remember what happened with my maternal grandmother and her dementia, and it was heartbreaking.
Hugs right back to you, jalapeno. ????
I add my hugs to those offered here for caregivers and those who have lost loved ones. My mother and mother-in-law (whom I loved like a second mother) both died in 2017. My mother had been disabled by a massive stroke, for three and a half years, and her decline was heartbreaking although my sisters and I shared many lovely moments with her during that time. The caregiving load was quite awful for my sister who lived nearby, as much as we tried to help ourselves and hire help (I live 1000 miles away). While I’m happy that both mothers’ suffering is over, they leave a large absence in our lives, and it is disorienting — I keep thinking things like, oh, it’s her birthday next week, I must order flowers — then I realize that’s over. The circle of life.
It’s astonishing how long that sense of disorientation can linger.
Happy hump day! This morning I’m trying to rock II (or, Deux (if you’re nasty)) by Cire Trudon. A recommendation by lovely Rachel at Luckyscent, whose taste is sharp and colorful; I come home to find out this is one of those “ambroxan / cashmeran”-described perfumes in its note description, and to its credit I will say I sense the powdery slateness of the ambroxan, which I dislike here, because it throws it into a sugar-dusted-tropical-fruity territory verging toward daiquiri-disaster. This was *much* more incense-like at the store, but a big fail personally on the skin at home. I don’t get incense at all, just the overdose of cloying resin (cashmeran) tethering resort bar swill. To be completely honest, this reminds me of Sauvage, which don’t get me started. Scrubber.
Uh oh — hope Rachel just sent you home with a sample and not a full bottle purchase?
Sample! Oh my, cannot imagine owning a full bottle of this!
This might kill that flu bug, though, on overwhelming strength alone.
Oh good.
And I think I’ll stick with the echinacea 😉
Ha! I don’t hate Deux, but it’s not my favorite of the lot, mostly because it smells like a fig perfume to me, and I rarely crave the figgies. I didn’t find it harshly synthetic, though, and I’m very sensitive to some of those strong woody/amber synthetics used in a lot of niche perfumes.
Interesting, as I don’t really get much of a fig aspect either. Maybe the smog is distorting everything today?
Opposing noses! 🙂
Fight, Robin, fight! I’m wearing Idyllwild today, as resolved after all the love it was getting yesterday. A coworker stopped by my office, sniffed, and said, “something smells like mothballs.” Ummm… I think that would be me. Eek!
Mothballs?!? You smell wonderful…your coworker needs a nose adjustment. ????
Hahaha! Maybe she just couldn’t find the proper words in her vocabulary. What she was really thinking: “Something smells like a cool, shady pine forest in the summertime, and it matches your green shirt perfectly. I can’t even!”
Heeheehee! Of course!
Don’t pay attention! People grasp for the closest they can find in their olfactory memory. So unless it’s important to you that this particular person enjoys/likes what you wear, disregard and enjoy this wonderful perfume.
OMG! So funny! Who in the world would be so rude?! Obviously, your coworker, but gosh! ????????♀️
In the category of, « If you can’t say something nice… »
Of course she may not have identified it as a perfume smell and thought it was some other ambient odour.
I’ll go against the grain here and say it could be worse, as far as comments go 😉
Feel better Robin! I recommend spicy Chinese food…that’s my medicine of choice for sinus trouble. Request the HOUSE Chinese mustard, not the packets! 🙂
Going with Carolina Herrera Good Girl today, and enjoying the heck outta it!
Anybody here on MeWe? I just joined, and started what I believe to be the 1st perfume chat group there…. I’m calling it “Perfume Community! What’s your SOTD?”, if you wanna another place to talk…And of course, this in NO WAY replaces NST! NST is the gold standard of perfume talk…I just need to talk more! LOL! 🙂
I think I read somewhere Good Girl became one of the best selling perfumes (maybe fastest selling). CH could use the boost…internal turmoil and flat sales.
My folks got me the small bottle for Christmas, and I really love it! Plus….the BOTTLE…..LOL! Combines my love of shoes with my love of perfumes…..
I thought I had seen this. A little more information for your SOTD
https://www.google.com/amp/wwd.com/beauty-industry-news/fragrance/carolina-herreras-good-girl-fragrance-breaks-records-comes-to-u-s-10752296/amp/
WOW! That’s a lot of stilleto shoe bottles floating around…..
Thank you! And more places to talk is always good 🙂
Does the coffee note really come through?
There are mini bottles of this, in that tacky-cute heel shape, and I want one so bad.
I don’t get the coffee as much as the cocoa….but the coffee is definitely there! Mocha, maybe? 🙂
The scent of my birthday is Fat Electrician! I’m all ready to upgrade from sample to bottle today given ELdO’s 20% off sale and my gift to myself (one of three – new pair of boots and earrings). It’s like a more wearable and gourmand Encre Noir.
Fat Electrician is sooooooo good!!! I bought a small bottle the last sale.
I’m considering You or Someone Like You this time around….BUT I may get a Zoologist travel size of Camel instead. Or maybe nothing, since I’m supposed to be cutting back spending….LOL!
Oh. Don’t pass on either!! ????
And I forgot to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! 🙂
Fantastic choice. I’m a big fan.
Happy birthday! A trifecta is always a good answer to the birthday conundrum! ????
Happy scented birthday, trf!
Happy birthday! ????
And you smell fantastic!????
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your gift to self (also Parfum1 might have it and they always have a 25% off code on their site-just giving out options, not sure if it’s cheaper).
Thanks for the tip. Something great about the ELdO code is it also gives you free shipping! I checked Parfum1 and they don’t have the 1oz size that I want, so ELdO for the win (this time).
Ah, that’s good to know for me in the future!
Happy birthday and happy shopping!
Happy birthday!????
Happy Birthday!
You smell great.
happy birthday!!
Happy bday, S! Hope it’s a great day.
You smell great! Happy Scented Birthday for sure! ???? ????
Thank you all!
Happy birthday!
Robin, I hope you feel better soon!
I’m wearing Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan, and I think my bottle might having changed some..? As in, something in the base may have morphed somehow. It’s one of the small travel bottles, and it’s the last one of a set of 4. So if it has turned, at least it’s not a big volume of perfume.
Has anyone experienced this with Osmanthe Yunnan? (Or maybe after all these years, I am simply smelling it differently)
I haven’t smelled this one in a while but it’s a coincidence that Vanessa (Bonkers about Perfume) just wrote about this kind of “turning” that she experienced with a couple of her perfumes, including one from Le Labo: http://bonkersaboutperfume.blogspot.com/2018/04/le-labo-labdanum-18-and-when-perfumes.html
Thanks for sharing this link, interesting for those of us with more than 1 or 2 bottles…
Yeah, I know: that pesky third bottle problem… 😉
Thank you!
And I did think my large OY got less “bright” near the end, but luckily I went through the bottle pretty quickly and it was still quite wearable.
Robin & Undina, thanks for the replies!
Fortunately, it got better after about 1/2 an hour. So I guess it’s a top note issue, but it’s not a deal breaker!
Wearing My Inner Island Vaniglia Sopraffina e Rhum today from a generous NSTer.
A wonderful pina colada vanilla.
Sadly this Italian line appears to be no more. I can find other perfumes from this line on Italian perfume sites (which may not even ship to th US) but not this beauty. Moral? Buy early and buy often. ????
Oh, and a pina colada vanilla sounds good too!
I walked off and forgot perfume this morning, so I pulled out an oil I had in my purse, Valentina’s Home Brewed Sweet Dreams – jasmine and sandalwood goodness. 🙂
Finally got my surgery time for tomorrow. I have to be at the hospital to check in at 6am. Blergh.

SotD = Barbara Bui EdP
I’d forgotten how much I like BB. Smells softly relaxed and contented. The little 30 ml rectangular bottle is perfect.
Feel better, Robin! And to everyone who is dealing with health issues, please take good care.
You smell wonderful. I love the soft comfort of BB.
Thanks, Nancyleandros! Soft comfort — exactly the right words for BB.
That one is on my list of “things I should have bought” 🙂
Robin, I hope this passes quickly for you! I had heard there was a resurgence of the flu this season.
SOTD is Naja from a Super Fantastic NSTer!
I went a walking yesterday and found the most beautiful spot to take the dog for exercise! It’s several huge rolling hills, dotted with ancient oaks, bordered by vineyards, and filled with wildflowers. Just amazing! I stumbled on it right before sunset and GAH! Just gorgeous! It’s also an area of oak restoration so there are many baby oaks planted, which tells me the area will be preserved, thankfully avoiding the dreaded bulldozer of “progress.”
I used my new ap and identified a ton of plants- everything from beets to field mustard to olive to Curled Dock to Mediterranean Storck’s Bill!
T-Rex was in olfactory heaven, bouncing around the fields like a springbok a lá this:
https://youtu.be/jMIiB9DnRXg
Happy Humpday to all✌????
I love that video! I would pronk, if only I could. I think maybe I pronked at rock concerts in the 70’s, though. ????????
Pronking looks fabulous! An expression of pure joy! Because I’m old and arthritic, I can’t pronk, but have great fun watching T-Rex bounce around.
Pronk on, T-Rex dudette.
Speaking of the 70’s, I found myself YouTubing Fahey Flynn yesterday. He was a long time news guy in Chicago, and I grew up watching him. My parents were news freaks long before CNN made it a 24 hour thing. Fahey was a totally class act dude. Watched him in a snippet about John Wayne Gacey, who I also grew up hearing about since it was only a few towns away. Why am I regressing back to the 70’s? Do you find yourself doing that? Maybe I need to get busy/busier? Crazy!’
Your walking place sounds wonderful. Come on spring…
It’s coming, I promise! ????????
Hey I need that ap. What is it? My kids used ask me about every flower and blade of grass and I’d just make up names that got weirder and weirder until they cottoned on 😉 (What, you didn’t know that was called a Split Angle Forest Fur plant????)
It’s called “Seek” by iNaturalist. It’s FREE! Also identifies animals and reptiles. I love it!
Hmmm… not showing up on my only sort of smart phone…. I just bought something call PlantSnap….
Oh, it may be iPhone specific? Since it’s by iNaturalist, just guessing. Hoping the one you got is maybe the android version?!
Sounds perfect. Oak trees are wonderful. Thanks for the app info…i found it but my ipad is too old to get it. Just like me.
Well, we just clocked 4 miles, including some steep hills, which made me realize I’m old, fat, and out of shape. The only thing new about me is my iPhone. ????
ditto
I have just got home and got caught in sleety rain. As I was walking I began wishing that dogs could turn into cats over the colder months…Is it raining today? Think I’ll stay under the covers – rather than – Yay! Rain! Wind! Mud! Let’s go out!!! (get really muddy and stinky and then jump on the couch)
That all sounds astoundingly beautiful. See what I said about CA? 😀
Oh, California is no doubt beautiful! Never a question in my mind about that!
I have a lot of baby oaks growing in my back and front yard…(where they may not grow, because my yard is teeny) Not sure which critters drop acorns in there as I’ve seen a squirrel nearby. I’m thinking it’s the scrub jays.
I have seen squirrels and the occasional chipmunk in my area digging holes in the grass either looking for something they buried, or burying something. I’d bet they are your culprits.
What fun for you and T! A nature walk is one of my favorite restoratives.
When the Seek app came out I seriously contemplated getting an iPhone. If there were an app for identifying perfumes in the wild I’d buy a iPhone and an iPad! 😀
The flu is no fun! One thing you might have in house is tumeric and red pepper flakes – they can be made into a tea that will at least temporarily make your throat feel better, if that is an issue. But the flu…there probably isn’t much you can do at all. Maybe it will be a weird 24hour flu fluke. I’ve had those.
Safran Troublant for me wich I got from a lovely NSTer. May well be my next FB and price wise ok!
I also received Safran Troublant from a lovely NSTer. You smell great!
Second that! I love ST.
Thank you Eschmeling, good advice!
I have dabbed on a little lolita lempicka, what I believe to be the original? Found it at a thrift store (obv under$100 ????, even under $15!) and couldn’t pass it up as an Annick Menardo fan. I might decant some into a spray. It doesn’t seem too Angel-ish (yet) which was my worry.
I don’t find the 2 to be terribly similar.
Yeah, me neither (so far) but it is mentioned in some reviews?
Hope you beat the lurgy back.
Miss Dior EDT today, early 80s vintage. Just what I need today–the first scent that was ever a true love for me, and still is.
I hear you on those 80’s first true loves. My bottle of vintage Obsession is what I’ll grab if the house is on fire. Everything else can be replaced.
SOTD is Iris by C& E. I would definitely buy this one again, if I could find it. It’s really good for what it is.
I’m sorry that you’re coming down with the crud Robin. I hope it passes quickly!
Thanks Petunia!
Waiting to see my orthopedist for the follow-up after my recent hip dislocation. I’m wearing Queen of the Night to feel beautiful despite my cumbersome big brace. A friend said it makes me look like a Starship Trooper.
I wouldn’t mind being a starship trooper! I bet you look totally rad! ✌????Best of luck with that problematic hip.
Oh, no, I’m laughing, and I hope you did, too. It’s good to have friends who can help us find humor in trying situations.
I hope you get good news and a clear plan of action from your ortho. I also deeply hope you get out of the brace before the oppressive weather hits!
Thank you, Nancy. There is no real plan except, wear the brace and be careful, and it might dislocate again, in which case he’ll operate. 🙁 But yes, the Starship Trooper comment WAS kind of funny. And you’re right, I should be thanking my lucky stars that I don’t have to wear this d…d brace during the heat of a Houston summer!
Best of luck
Today I am wearing my sample of Diptyque’s Fleur de Peau.
You smell wonderful!
Feeling a little put out today. My son got his cast off yesterday, and it was replaced with a ….wait for it… cast. He has been given a little shoe thing he can wear with it so he can put weight on his leg, but apparently his tibia has not healed enough for him to get a full on boot. He is shaky and tires easily even with his walker. I love him to bits but gosh I would love it if he could go back to school!
Perfume? Oh right. S’pose to talk about perfume. Commando still, but I am thinking about something floral with patchouli—maybe Knowing or Ubar or Ylang 49….
It’s such a case of slowly, slowly isn’t it? And that constant clump, clump noise of the walker, and all the bits and pieces like shower stools, raised toilet seats….but it will get better!
Hang in there! You must be exhausted *hugs* but at least he is definitely on the mend. Take care of yourself too.
I know that feeling well — good wishes to both of you Oakland Fresca!
So sorry about flu Robin. I don’t have any good remedies for that other than collapsing and sleeping as much as possible. Hope it’s a quick one.
Commando right now as I head to the airport. Since Jet Blue is in int’l terminal, I’ll be popping in duty free.
So much less stressful staying with a friend last night instead of getting to airport from dad’s place. Relaxed coffee and chat then quick bus downtown to BART. Hoping for no delays…at least weather shouldn’t be an issue.
Update. SOTF is The (tea) Blanc. Won’t disrupt.
Have a safe and pleasant flight.
I’m with you on sleep as the cure.
Oh good, because I am collapsing & resting right now 😉
Today’s scents are Catbird Tarot Deck (solid) very lightly in cleavage, and SL Gris Clair very lightly dabbed on wrists and neck. I can still smell it, 5 hours later. My co-worker may have noticed, so I’m hoping it all blends in with the perfumes worn by the ladies at the auxiliary meeting next door.
Feel better soon!
Gris clair really sticks around
I almost impulse bought the Tarot candle at Catbird last week. I like it, but decided I have too many candles at the moment.
How do you find the solid? I have Kitten and rarely wear it because the solid is too too solid and super hard to apply (I dropped the jar in hot water first last time I wore it).
Its true, you really do have to dig into that little jar. Hot water is a good idea.
Mmm…Gris Clair…you smell lovely 🙂
Robin, so sorry you are feeling poorly! Maybe you can squeeze in a nap?
I’m wearing African Leather today for a trip to the suburbs for a meeting. Hoping to find a good Indian restaurant after my appointment is over.
I did indeed rest on the couch a bit this afternoon, and generally have been taking it easy. It will be lights out here very soon!
Hope your meeting went well and that you ate something delicious?
Today I’m wearing Cactus Orchid oil by Dame. I received one of Jeffrey’s surprise Dame Love boxes with a Sky Father body cream and a bunch of samples including this new scent. It’s definitely pretty, and I’m going to assume it smells like an actual cactus orchid because the Dame soliflores are usually spot on. And I own Sky Father so I can now layer the cream and perfume. So generous.
He is generous with the samples that is for sure. I was on his sight the other day and see that some of the soliflores were offered in a lotion- but sold out- bummed I missed them.
I’d love to hear more about the Cactus Orchid. Does it smell similar to non-cactus orchid? And what is a surprise Love box??
Most of my orchid perfume experience is with Olympic Orchids which are much headier. To my nose this is a soft greenish floral, a little citrusy. A Dame Love box is a surprise box sent by Jeffrey Dame to regular customers – usually with deluxe samples of new products and additional perfume samples. This time it was a 1.6 oz Sky Father body cream, samples of New Musk Oil, cactus Orchid and mandarin, Neroli and cedar EDT. Jeffrey is very good to his customers!
Oh, wow, how generous! The cactus orchid sounds like it’s worth trying. Thanks!
Wow MMkinPa that is a nice surprise. It sounds like something I would like. I am commando today, playing around with the idea of using the last few drops of my decant of Civet by Zoologist….
I am always so curious as to how how they represent the Orchid accord. I gave my goddaughter the Earth Father hail oil. He has some great stuff, I have been enjoying the orange blossom and am mad about the Narcissus soleflore.
Get BETTER Robin, this one is MEAN, STAY ON IT!
Thank you AngelaB!
Perfumista friend sent me a couple of wears-worth remaining of her Houbigant Iris Des Champs decant, which I’m wearing today, and I’m afraid that now I’ll want a bottle of it. I didn’t expect to like it that much. Isn’t that funny how infatuation with a scent might just jump at you unexpectedly?
Robin, get better soon! Maybe it’s not a flu but just a cold?
I don’t have so much respiratory stuff (yet, at least) and it was very quick onset — pretty sure it’s flu, but hoping it will not linger.
SOTD is Rozy edp. I smell good.
Yes indeed you do 🙂
Slow start to the day, and I seem to be caught in some spam filter on NST – I get a screen asking me to enter my email address and a note to the administrator asking them to add my network to an approved list?
Wearing a bit of Mon Précieux Nectar.
Thanks for fixing it Robin, and wishing you a speedy recovery!
Thanks for putting up with our crappy spam filter, and actually, thanks to EVERYONE who has had to wait for me to clear them. Most people have never had it happen, but some people have been snagged multiple times.
Sorry you’re unwell Robin… Adding painkillers, duvet, quiet space and sleep to your list. My mum used to swaddle me in a bug sheet when I was sick as a kid and I am just remembering how comforting that feeling of being contained was. Like feeling safe.
Anyway. I hope my bracken arrives today though I suspect the courier driver will put it in the ‘too hard basket’ given that the road is blocked. I am in gris clair and waiting for sunrise when i will jump up energetically and facilitate the chasing of pinecones, rabbits etc with two mad dogs.
Big sheet….zzzzzzzzzzz
Haha! Thank you, I was just going to ask you what that was (yes, I am blond) as I’m familiar with swaddling, but not “bug sheet.” Lol.
Awww. And here I was thinking about the quaint New Zealand custom of wrapping sick children in sheets to ward off bugs! I second the duvet, and hot compresses if you have them, and sleep. Also, showers and baths. A warm shower and clean sheets (errr not bug sheets) can go far when you feel really lousy.
I was thinking that too, Oakland!
Night night, hope the bed bugs don’t bite!
I thought it was a sheet with pictures of lady bugs on it, because you are a nature goddess to me, and it made sense.
Oh, I am with lillyjo and thought it was a sheet with pictures of bugs on it! I hate bugs so would not find that comforting.
And I am under the duvet right now, switching between here and an episode of Detectorists, and I have my tea & meds and predict I will be fast asleep shortly.
Hope your bottle gets to you today!
My H swaddles himself before going to sleep every night, then an hour or so later he’ll be drenched in sweat and panting for air so I unswaddle him. I figure it must be one of those childhood things, the need to swaddle himself.
One of my dogs likes to be swaddled when there is a storm or fireworks. It calms her down a lot.
Oh no Robin! The flu has been BRUTAL this year! The vaccine is mandatory for my colleagues and me, but despite this many of them got the flu anyway….. I hope you feel better soon!
SotD is the woodsy, salty, citrusy, soapy combination of JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt with Lime Basil and Mandarin. Every time I wear this combo I wonder why I don’t wear it more often.
Thanks madtowngirl! I did not get the vaccine.
Oh, I wish I could sniff you!
Good morning, all. This is going to be a long day following another night of troubling techni-colour dreams, all full of silly, ugly images. It’s Awards Night: I wish I felt slightly more on my game, but I’ll probably feel better as the day wears on.
I’m wearing 31 Rue Cambon, because I fondly imagine that my outfit is elegant, and I want my perfume to suit. Also, pragmatically, I have a miniature of 31RC, so I can touch up later without carting the big bottle to work. Truly, every time I wear this perfume, I’m grateful to Chanel for making it, and for being able to buy it. I find it almost heartbreakingly beautiful in a haunting, elegiac kind of way: it’s not a merry, bright scent at all, but it’s not somber and melancholic either. It has considerable movement, actually, and that movement is graceful. It’s like my Isabella cat, actually, mother of the darling Dakkie: she had a plain little outfit of warm silver-grey, and green eyes; she was self-possessed but not unaffectionate, and she was spare and graceful in her movements. 31 could have been composed with such a one as her in mind. I love Eric and the Stripies very much, and we’re telling a new story now, but I still miss Izzie and the Dak-cat.
Oh dear, I’ve just turned slightly sad. I ‘d better get off to work and do something useful so I snap out of it. Be well, all.
Of course you miss them! I’m sorry you got sad. Thinking of you.
Waterdragon,
It’s national pet day here in the US of A, so we can just extend that over to you and your memories of Dakkie. She sounds like the Amal Clooney of cats, beautiful, chic and a bit reserved.
On another note, I love those tiny bottles of Chanel when they send then to me w/ an order. So darling!
I have no doubt you do look elegant. Take care. I hope your melancholy mood passes soon.
Today I’m wearing one of the Esxence novelties, Nuda Veritas by Atelier des Ors. Lots of neroli and gorgeous freshness in this one.
Robin, hope you feel better soon. My only advice is sleep, even if you think you shouldn’t. My sotd is Black Opium, which I brought back out from the bad association shelf. It’s moved back up one level.
Nice to hear that Black Opium might have lost part of its bad association for you. It sucks when something you like gets messed up.
Yeah, it stinks because I do put alot of emotional thought into my perfume. I sometimes wish I could smell them more logically.
Lillyjo,
I cannot separate out any of my fragrance from the memories they evoke. I checked around the house but I couldn’t find any logic anywhere!
Adding, that’s why I loved the Cedre so much, at first sniff, it just stirred something in me, more than just notes, it was the feeling it evoked.
You smell good, lillyjo.
Robin, I’m really liking the picture of the day today! So sorry to hear that you have the flu. ???? ???? I hope that you will shake it off in a reasonable amount of time, and not end up with a month of misery.
SOTD = ELdO’s Jasmin et Cigarette, from the sample stash. I have both dab and spray samples of this one, and application does make a difference in what I smell. I get more of an herbal note (dry leaves, tea, tobacco??) when I spray, as opposed to lots of indolic jasmine when I dab.
Isn’t that pretty? I just *have* to get better tomorrow because 68 degrees, at long last!! (and jasmine smells better in warm weather, I think)
SOTD is Guerlain’s Encens Mythique d’Orient.
Oh & take care of yourself Robin!
Robin, I hope you skirt by with the mildest flu! When I feel something coming on, I take a homeopathic dose of Boiron Oscilloccocilum pellets. For all I know it’s a placebo but si far so good in terms of preventing or lessening the symptoms.
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
I was originally saving this for Friday, but I was in a hurry this morning and this was handy. Cheap as chips and oh so good! Exhaust fumes, rubber tires, pleather and yummy vanilla cream.
Commuting Woes No. 411 and 412:
– All seats were taken, including one person sitting down whose foot was in a soft cast. Of all the places to stand, why would one pick the spot right in front of the guy with a bad foot, and dropping one’s heavy backpack almost on top of the foot?
– Adult man with both hands free decided to unbutton his coat with both hands while the train was moving. He almost stumbled. He tried again and again, almost stumbled. He stopped trying to unbutton his coat, not to hold on to a pole but to walk the length of the train Frankenwalk style. Why?
Tomorrow, if I have time, the mysteries of the English language.
Black is on my list this week. I have a bottle of it sitting in my cart on FragranceNet waiting for payday Friday. So cheap and so good!
Though frustrating for you most of the time, your commuting woes always make me smile. Thank you. 🙂
If it works, it works! I take those sometimes, or I do echinacea extract in water — the bad taste gives it extra placebo power ????
Bvlgari Black = yum.
Wearing an old favorite, Lily, from Lili Bermuda! I really do love it. Sometimes I go for a long time between wearings, and then when I wear it again, I wonder why I did that. It’s such a lovely, calming, peaceful scent. https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2016/05/06/may-muguet-marathon-lily-by-lili-bermuda/
I have so many scents like that! It’s like visiting an old friend.
