Hump Day, plus Carrot Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am about to head back home from a few days out of town. When I get there, it will be Honoré des Prés I Love Les Carottes.
Reminder: on 4/6, wear one of your "top 10 of spring" fragrances (unless it's fall where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of fall" scents).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Safe travels, Robin.
Ambre Narguilé, a sample from the amazing Koyel. I ordered a decant of this, and will proceed from there. It’s a cool day, perfect for this one!
I like Amber, what is this one like?
It reminds me of sweet tobacco-and a little of Ambre Aurea (sp) by Profumum Roma.
My own take: it smells like spiced cider and hay. Aka, smells like Halloween.
On me, it smells like apple crumble, without the custard.
I am so happy you’re enjoying it 🙂 it’s one of my favorite perfumes ever!
Thank you so much!!
Thanks flopper, I am home safe and sound 🙂
Hooray!
Rose Nacree du Desert
I need something strong since my nose is completely stuffed up, courtesy of my little ones.
Robin, hope everything is ok with you!
I am missing Bear -triple strength coffeee-extra long workout..Hope he is ok
I am missing Bear, too! Hope he is OK and knows that we send fragrant greetings to him.
I hope you feel better soon. And I also miss Bear and his music.
I hope Bear is ok, and I hope your nose clears up!
Another missing bear!
As Unintentionally Ironic Spring Fragrance week continues with an overnight snowfall, I am wearing VC&E First in both edp and edt. I always get lots of daffodils and hyacinths from it, which makes me look forward to, oh, I suppose, July.
“Unintentionally Ironic” might be a good community project theme!
Yes, I like this idea!
This one was in my top 10 spring last year. I think it’s perfect for a colder (not-so-)spring weather.
SOTD is Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Bleu for the srping project.
I bought a mini of this in February and it’s been one of my top ten this spring for sure!
Today’s SOTD is Magie Noire perfume. 🙂
ooh. Magic indeed.
I have a vintage mini which calls to me in certain weather (deep autumn, about to be winter). It’s gorgeous, but it eats my head and I can’t wear it to do anything that needs mental focus.
I was in the mood for some magic today, and with the odd weather, this seems to bloom beautifully.
Back in the mid-80s, I generously sprayed this then went to a wedding. We were late, flung the doors open and I’m sure the perfume announced its presence. But I love Magie Noire.
Hey, what an entrance!
Nice one. Love it.
I had a bottle of this waaaay back when; it got thrown out by mistake in a move or something. I cry a little every time I think about it.
Wearing Promesse de l`Aube from MDCI on this snowy spring day.
Citrus, florals and vanilla – such an easy and enjoyable scent to wear.
Whoops – duplicate
posting
You smell great. I wore it the other night.
Wearing Promesse de l`Aube from MDCI on this snowy spring day.
Citrus, florals and vanilla – such an easy and enjoyable scent to wear.
A very pretty one.
Balenciaga Cristobal Pour Homme. Imagine a hybrid of Le Male and Joop Homme. But unlike either of those, handsome and wearable.
I was going to say — hard to imagine that hybrid would be wearable!
Trying to conjure up spring with Serge Lutens Fleurs d’Orangers. I usually dab this one on, but today I shall spray with abandon.
well no one on this blog will judge you..spray away!
Thank you, ma’am!
Spray the whole bottle, if it will make spring come!
That’s the idea, Robin! 🙂
It’s still darn cold here (for Oregon), but fortunately I remembered several of you saying that Cristalle is lovely in cold weather so that’s my SOTD. Loving it – wish I could bathe in it!
You are inspiring me to get out the Cristalle–love it in any weather.
Yay – I love to be an inspiration! 🙂
I actually just tried Cristalle in a duty free shop a month or two ago (ducking out of shame) and oh my gosh, I thought it was so beautiful. You smell great!
Cristalle should be more readily available to sniff.
The edt is out and ready to sample at all my local Nordstrom stores, if that helps.
Ohhhh, it is gorgeous. Did you try the EDT or the EDP? I love them both, but the EDT gets the edge most days.
Carrot Day! Tempted to wear Iris Rebelle again (so much carrot in that opening) but I’m going with Ofresia, my favorite discovery (so far) this spring. I just ordered a decant of Pear and Freesia as well.
It’s apparently World Rat Day too, although don’t think that translates well to perfume 😉
Hmm, are chinchillas a type of rat? I have some DSH Chinchilla!
I am laughing at the thought of chinchilla stoles being referred to as “rat coats.” 😉
Ha ha, that would be a very adventurous one for the Zoologist line to attempt!!
Might have to dig out my bottle of I Love Les Carrotes today.
I got mine out 🙂
Just hoicked out the Donna Karan Gold, which I somehow neglected to a) wear for Easter* or b) move from the “season-spanning” box in the nightstand to the Hatbox of Current Rotation.
* actually, I know why I didn’t wear it: I was going to be spending the day with my mother, who really does not fancy white florals of any variety. True story! I bought her a bouquet for her birthday a few days before, and on Easter she said that the lilies in it were overwhelming her so she put the bouquet in the front hall, well away from the rooms she frequents. A neighbor once gave her a gardenia when I was a child, and she made me take it to my room because she said it was too much. (I was swooning with delight.)
Today, I smell like Easter lilies. I am happy.
I also *almost* wore Gold for Easter, but wound up in Ostara. DK will have to wait until next year for her moment . . .
Ostara’s so nice.
My husband gets migraines from lilies. Luckily it is not my favorite perfumery note!
Yeah, I know, the smell of lily troubles a lot of people! It’s lavender that gives me headaches.
We have enormous, fragrant white lilies in our living room right now 🙂 Every day, when I get home from work and first open the door, I am assaulted by their gorgeous scent. They’re so great!
That sounds like a wonderful assault. 🙂
I like lilies okay, but gardenias are my FAVORITE!
I miss having lillies in the house–I love that heady smell. Unfortunately the cats I live with now are too daft to not eat them, and it’s just not worth the risk. I once got given an entire armful of them–maybe a dozen and a half stems–by a florist who was packing up for a long weekend. Bliss! (And was then living with one super-smart cat, and one cat too clumsy to get up on to the high and narrow mantelpiece, however much she might have wanted to.)
I am butting in to say “hello” 🙂
Ew, I’m with your mother, can’t stand the smell of lilies. Those Stargazers are the absolute worst. They cause me non-stop sneezing. I don’t ever have lilies in the house anyway because they’re too poisonous for cats.
Ormonde Jayne Champaca. No carrot, just loveliness.
Yup, just loveliness. You smell great!
Thanks!
You smell lovely!
Thank you!
Oh gosh, I love that one SO much. On my FB list. You smell wonderful.
Thanks! I love it too and it is also on my ever growing list.
SOTD MDCI Cio Cio San. Basically an inoffensive light fruity floral, perfect for Spring. My husband said I smelled like rose candy even though no rose is listed. It actually reminds me more of several sheer osmanthus/tea scents I’ve smelled.
Supposedly inspired by Madama Butterfly, and it’s fleeting like one, too!
House Twins.
I actually almost chose Cio Cio San today
You smell fantastic
Hey (house) twin! Thank you and if I could actually smell myself, maybe I’d think so, too. Long sleeves, rain, and a coat aren’t helping. I’m sure you smell wonderful, though I don’t recall that one.
I think it smells like peonies and roses, so I’m with your husband!
Spending the morning in Shalimar. After my shower I will wear vintage L’Heure Bleu.
Either way, you smell wonderful
Both are beautiful!
Hmmm.. Shalimar
Ahhhh, smelling sooooo good today!
Lovely!
Le Jardin de Monsieur Li.
I really like many of the Jardins – I will need to try this one
It is the lightest of them all, but I really like it.
Nice
Lovely.
I woke up (too early, typical for me lately) craving Agent Provocateur.
I have been having that same problem lately too 🙁 Waking up much earlier than I need too and then not being able to fall back asleep and getting angry because I’m thinking about how much sleep I’m missing out on.
Yep. I’ve been trying to get up and read poetry instead of just lying there.
I’ve been dealing with that, too, lately but I seem to be back on track. ???? Sending you both good sleep vibes.
Loving your SOTD!
Atelier Mandarine Glaciale and I am drinking a cup of Peppermint tea.
I am just starting on my first good cup of tea in days…Earl Grey.
I pressed Repeat today with SL Vetiver Oriental. Ahhh, so nice…!
I had such a crappy “business” day yesterday (the travel agency I partner with messed up my start date due to numerous errors! Grrr!), that I found myself online laughing like a 13 year old over Bill Dance Bloopers. I’m not a Bill Dance fan (although I’m sure he’s great) and I’m not a fishing fan, but those bloopers just tickled my 13 year old Three Stooges Humor for some reason.
So, I’d like to give a shout out to Bill Dance for lifting my spirits ????
House twins! And laughter is the best medicine! And I love Vetiver Oriental. You don’t hear folks talk about it too much.
I’ve never tried it, but I think I really need to! Vetiver is great.
I think I might be opening up to vetiver more. It can be difficult for me, especially in any season but summer, but I might be coming around to it. I sniffed FM Vetiver Extraordinaire on paper yesterday and was swooning.
Argh, I am displeased to hear that. FMs are too expensive to love, and I already love many of them.
(I sent you Guerlain Vetiver, right? IIRC, you liked it enough to get a bottle? It’s a perfect beginner’s vetiver, eh?)
Yes and yes and yes. 😉 The FM reminded me of it a bit, maybe?
It does fly under the radar. Maybe because it’s not as easily available? I know fragrancenet has it, but it’s pretty steep (almost $200!) for the 75ml oblong bottle. The more I wear it, the more I like it.
I love Vetiver Oriental, but my bottle is in Montreal . Need to wear that next werk!
How do manage that? Do you have duplicates in both places? Do you move bottles back and forth? Or do you have two entirely different collections in each place? Enquiring minds want to know..!
All of the above. Some bottles exist only in one place, big favourites are duplicated, and some get moved back and forth – my husband is driving at this very minute with two boxes filled with perfume in our van. 🙂
I’m sorry you had such a frustrating day yesterday. Glad to hear you found some comic relief!
In the grand scheme of things, it’s just a blip. However, I’m going to head out to the Oxbow Public Market a bit and do some retail therapy! ????
I did a double take when I saw you mention Bill Dance. My husband watches him quite a bit!
“The biggest two words I know is ‘mayonnaise and chevrolet’” Bill Dance. omg, I almost died laughing!????
Humpday!
1) In Chanel Eau Premiere, which is perfect for spring and fall.
2) Breakfast of champions: masala chai and a green smoothie. And Doritos.
3) BUT! My lunch is quiche and green salad, which makes up for the doritos.
Doritos are magical ????
Yes, they are! Sure I shoulda had something like kale chips or roasted seaweed with a green smoothie BUT these were on the common table. Yum!
Doritos are a food group as are Peeps.
I love chai tea
So good and a gentle yet spicy way to start the day!
Doritos are delicious. No judgement from me! And I think you smell great!
Oh gorsh! Thank you!
In Coquillete Cookiecrunch and Montale Sweet Vanilla from an exceedingly generous NSTer and enjoying them both.
Lovely! Glad you are enjoying them.
Coquillete Cookiecrunch is a great name! ????
I’ve never heard of Cookiecrunch, but the name alone makes me want to try it.
It’s only available in Europe as far as I know, I ordered directly from their shop in Milan. It smells like a lemon cookie. 🙂
Speaking of smelly things, I had a close encounter with alien-looking durians yesterday at the Eden Center, a large Vietnamese shopping center in northern Virginia.
The smaller and more old-fashioned of the two supermarkets there had just opened a large styrofoam container of durians from Thailand, and a family was picking up the huge, spiky fruits by their long stems in order to carefully examine and sniff them before making their selection. It was easy to smell the durian yards away, actually.
I wanted to try durian without dealing with 10 to 12 pounds of spiky giant football. My friend suggested buying a small pack of frozen Monthong durian sections, which I did. This popular sweet variety is said to have a *relatively* mild aroma.
Part of the smell is like the stinkier aspect of onion or garlic, especially sharper types of onion, such as wild onions or chives, but it didn’t make my eyes water or taste like onion in other respects. Underneath that is a fruity aroma, with elements of cantaloupe, banana, persimmon, etc., but sort of creamy. When I actually ate it, the stinky aspect receded and I was more focused on the fruit tastes. I definitely enjoyed trying it and ate more than one section.
I did not get any of the reported cheese, turpentine, or old gym sock notes, but, again, this was a less pungent variety of a presumably healthy fruit harvested for packaging at the correct point of ripeness.
There are many articles and blog posts about durian on the internet. I especially enjoyed this story, and the durians I saw looked a lot like the ones in the photos:
https://www.yearofthedurian.com/2014/07/the-most-expensive-durian-in-world-8.html
Agh! The dreaded durian. They grow all over Penang, where my father has a flat. He loves them–soft and stinky. Apparently, aficionados pay a high price for durians collected minutes after they have dropped from the trees and rushed to markets and individual buyers. I have a pretty high tolerance for strong cheeses and rare aromas in food, but sun-heated, ripened durian fruit sends me to the hills! (It is illegal to bring them on buses and other forms of public transportation in many parts of Asia!!)
Yikes! The ultra high humidity would help promulgate the aroma, too. What an experience!
In the follow-up blog post to the one I linked, the author travels to Penang to visit a durian expert and explains that that Malaysians prefer softer durian with a creamier texture and more aroma.
https://www.yearofthedurian.com/2014/07/tasting-worlds-most-expensive-durian.html
Fortunately, my building’s ventilation system draws air into apartments from the hallways, rather than the reverse, and then out through vents in the bathrooms. I haven’t received any complaints from my neighbors on the tame frozen Manthong durian.
My local Asian market sells them frozen for the smell reason. I have been too much of a coward to try it- maybe for my birthday….
I’ve been trying to emulate someone who told me that he always did something on his birthday that he’d never done before. Durian would be perfect for that, as long as you’d be happy with an experience that is interesting and unusual but not entirely pleasant. I sort of got into it, but there’s also a good chance you (or other celebrants) might find the smell unbearable.
What a thing to aspire to on a birthday!
And because I am so close to so many Asian groceries that have durian (amongst other fruits) I really should try this. Because my B day is in April, the weather should be cooperative, so I will keep it outside!
I did an experiment of cutting open and tasting a durian fruit once long ago in a philosophy of art class in which we were reading about negative aesthetic experiences including disgust. I bought the durian in Houston’s Chinatown and barely survived the drive to my office with it in the trunk (mind you!) of my car. The students were quite game and most all of them tried it and so did I. Despite the absolutely horrendous smell (like garbage with a lot of coffee grounds), the taste really was quite intriguing. Creamy texture, fruity, with aspects of sherry, vanilla ice cream, mango, and more. I don’t think I’ll ever want to try it again, though!
My favourite artisanal ice cream shop in Montreal sells durian ice cream, but not by the scoop, only in a sealed pint container, ostensibly sequestered away from the other flavours.
Carrot day! I should’ve dug up my sample of la Fin du Monde, which is the only carrot I can think of that isn’t actually an iris.
I’m in oodles of Ostara from the swapmeet 🙂 spring incarnate! Sunshine radiating from my wrists. I don’t do florals often, but this one works, especially given this week’s CP.
Happy travels, Robin!
Ostara is a very sunny perfume. You smell great!
On my way to the surgeon’s for a minor out patient procedure, so something light and comforting–Inneke’s Poet’s Jasmine. Just a bit of lemon and jasmine, not too sweet, with the promise of spring.
Good luck today
I hope everything goes smoothly. Thinking of you.
Best wishes for your surgery!
Hope everything goes well.
Hope everything goes well for you today.
Best to you with your procedure.
Hope it was quick & easy!
Hope it went well.
Hoping it went well jepster.
Hope that your procedure was smooth and uneventful!
Wearing Kimonanthe today, which probably isn’t that springy, but neither is the weather where I am!
Plus, you smell pretty 🙂
I’m wearing Nick’s Sunflower today. It’s one that snuck up on me – I tried it, thought “meh”, but then kept going back to it. Drained the first sample, bought another, still liked it and so grabbed the travel spray yesterday.
Had to get up for a 6:30 a.m. meeting (luckily, over the phone). I’m soooo not a morning person… But since I work from home today, now I can slowly roll into the work day. So once I’m totally awake, I plan to wear Cognoscenti No 19 Warm Carrot (https://www.cogno-scenti.com/product-page/no-19-warm-carrot) – for the Carrot Day.
Most of my work is with folks in DC or Lebanon, so I try to arrange meetings at times that are not too early in the AM for me. But one upshot is that I frequently find myself on full steam when my colleagues are laboring through the mid-afternoon slog.
Unfortunately, with participants in Israel, California and Texas there are not too many options 🙁 Globalization at its worse 🙂
I am sooooo not a morning person either. I have a 6:00 AM flight Friday morning, thus will need to be at the airport by around 5:00 AM. Grrrrrrr!!!
Very cold and gray here, for San Diego anyway. Wearing Penhaligon’s Elixir.
Report please!
Whoops.. That was meant for Apsara, but while I am here, “Hellooooo!”
The Elixir is smell very nice. 🙂 Hello to you too!
Post shower my SOTD will be my sample of Niral that came last night.
Ohhh! Hope you enjoy it! I love new samples????????
Please share your impressions of Niral!
Oh my goodness, it is lovely.
I have never tested any of Neelas’ fragrances. Partly due to price, partly due to I didn’t like the shape of the bottles and partly due to falling into Chanel exclusifs land last year.
I dabbed a bit on after my shower and it seemed to disappear by the time I put my makeup on.
So, I went back re applied.
It is just beautiful and as Jessica pointed out in her review, so well blended it’s hard to pull apart. It has a sheer lightness to it that lifts the fragrance and makes it feel appropriate for any occasion.
I am smelling rose right now after about 30 minutes in.
This could be my birthday gift bottle to myself.
I have all of Neela’s fragrances and I recently ordered a bottle of Niral as well. All of her fragrances are easy to wear and office friendly. No one ever gives me a negative comment when I’m wearing one of them.
I agree, it is just lovely. Delicate and subtle, very well done. My favourite so far.
Wearing Guerlain Idylle Love Blossom from my swap with Elisa P. I like it, but I can barely smell it two hours later. I brought the decant with me, so I might sneak away to spray a little more soon.
I spray pretty heavily, which is why my bottle is more than 1/2 done in only 2 months! I think you smell lurvely ????
I am in Shalimar Light today which I think is perfect for spring! Lemony, creamy, powdery goodness! One of my favs!
HI KellyC
Did you ask me about Matcha and I forgot to respond.
How is your matcha making going?
I found another spot in NYC that I love that makes good match called Wabi. Ippodo is still my favorite. I friend recently text me about another tea place in the east village.
I think I actually have making it down pretty well. I would like to try a different kind of powder though. I grabbed one at Trader Joe’s and I’m sure there are better ones out there. But though I love my coffee, I’ve become quite addicted to matcha as well and now alternate coffee and matcha ha!
I use Yamashiro Uji Matcha tea
I buy it at a Japanese supermarket in NYC
http://sunrisemart-ny.com/default_ja/yamashiro-uji-maccha-can-40g.html
My neighbor uses a different one, let me ask her for the name.
She uses SA Matcha
https://www.amazon.com/SA-Japanese-Green-Tea-Drinking/dp/B00IUGLR5I
Both taste good to me and I usually do the whisking (the we meet for tea) and hers has a nice froth too. Depends on your budget and what you are looking for.
My budget for good coffee and matcha has no limit! ???? They’re some of my favorite little pleasures of life! Thanks for the recommendations!
I recently acquired a bottle of Eau de Shalimar (thanks to a lovely NSTer) and have found it to be the *perfect* spring Shalimar. I wore Shalimar Light (and Legere) last summer and loved it. (*Spring here is more like winter; our summer is probably more like your spring 😉 )
I’m wearing ELDO Putain des Palaces today. I haven’t worn it in a while, so I decided to remedy that today.
Mmmm. Good stuff and very spring-y!
I am wearing Safari
Perfume concentration
From a mini (got it with a mountain of samples in swapmeet last year)
I think I am in love!!!
Can anyone tell me how the edp from the 90s is compared to the perfume?
And has anyone smelled the recent re-release/reformulation? Is it any good?
I think I am just going to buy all the minis!!! 😉
My wall
Oh last sentence was incomplete. What I wanted to say, “my wallet does not agree with this vintage prices”
There are not even guarantees the juice is still wearable, but people ask more than 100 dollar for a used / opened bottle. ????
Thats why I am kinda reluctant to go down that vintage rabbit hole ????
Most vintage perfumes are actually a lot cheaper – except extraits. Will also say I’ve had very few disappointing vintage purchases, but I don’t expect them to be perfectly intact. Top notes are usually damaged and the openings aren’t always great. But if you can find minis, buy ’em up!
Thanks for your insight.
I sometimes look at the US eBay and I think its slightly cheaper there than in my area of the world.
So far I have not found that many perfumes I need to hunt down in vintage form. Mostly its more like ‘nice to have/get’ for a very reasonable price, and not an obsession.
I only fear the day I will empty my beloved Opium perfume 🙁
I’ve got the edp in the cut glass bottle, with silver cap, I love, love, love it, such a gorgeous perfume. I bet the perfume is wonderful.
SOTD is Opardu for another gray rainy day. I got a rare perfume compliment from a coworker this morning.
Oh nice!!
SOTM is Mure et Musc Extreme— not sure that it is top 10 spring fragrance, but I was in the mood for it today.
Book review tangent: In random reading news, I am finishing up Carlotta Walls’ autobiography–she was one of the ‘Little Rock Nine.’ It is totally coincidental that I am reading about her civil rights journey on the 50th anniversary of MLK’s assassination (the book has been in my pile of ‘to reads’ for literally years!) but I am finding the coverage of the assassination extra painful as a consequence. Anyway, if you are interested in the civil rights movement in the US in the 50s and 60s, it is an interesting book. Carlotta was just 14 when she enrolled at Central High, and the book is as much about her personal struggle with her own high expectations for herself in a racist society that expected so little of her, as it is about the fight for school integration in the South.
Thank you, that does sound interesting!
I watched NBC’s Hope and Fury the other night and have to admit I hadn’t given the Little Rock Nine much thought… well, actually I think it’s more that I hadn’t appreciated the full ramifications and all the risks from the perspective of an adult and (step)parent until now. Staggering, and astounding that families and their children had the courage to take that on.
I didn’t expect much from the above-mentioned “documentary,” but I actually thought it was quite well done and reminded me of the MLK Day specials that all the big networks used to do annually in tribute for the holiday.
Oops! This was supposed to be in response to Oakland Fresca above.
Hello. I am grumpy and tired, but mostly grumpy. I was woken several times in the night by a persistent squeak/beep, but in my foggy state, I attributed it to the bedroom fan, which is old and the mechanism is probably a bit worn. When I finally surfaced properly, however, I realised that what I had been hearing for hours wasn’t a mechanical squeak, it was a do-something-about-me-immediately beep from the fridge, which was wide open. We obviously had closed the door a little too quickly and it had bounced back instead of sealing tight. A curious cat would never be able to resist all those new places to explore and new smells to follow. And of course they know that the fridge is the source of good things, because they line up in front of it
I’m blaming Alexander for the actual thefts. He had knocked a packet of Temptations out (only six were left; it was pretty well full yesterday) and stolen the bunny I was thawing for their breakfast. They were all three of them sitting around in stodged guilt. I suppose the vegetables will be OK, but the casserole for tonight will have to be tossed, and I’d just made a kilogram of yoghurt that will have to go. All the milk….grumpy doesn’t really cover my mood.
Perfume for today? Hmmm. I don’t want to wallow in grump, so something uplifting and soothing. Bois des Iles, I think. Yes, lovely. Be well, all, and whatever else you do today, make sure you close your fridge door gently and firmly.
and check to make sure there are no kitties inside!
Yes, definitely that!
I once had a cat who would go to the opposite end of my apartment every time I opened the refrigerator so as to get the longest running start to hurl himself violently into the fridge. Once in, he’d wrap his claws around the grates on the shelves so that it was nigh impossible to pull him back out.
He’d also eat up any food left out (even in packaging), so we had to store everything in cupboards, and lock them up with baby-proofing since he could also open cupboard doors.
He also used the runway method to sprint into the bedroom, land on your head, then drag his claws down your face. Same method to try and open the bedroom door, which was a mess of claw marks from top to bottom by the time I moved out. I was also a mess of scratches and scars by the time I moved out. I left both the cat and the husband behind and only later realized how similar they were. (The husband never drew blood, but was manipulative and crazy and ought never have been adopted by me.)
Yikes! Glad to hear you got away from both the cat and the man! That sounds even worse then my aunt’s cat Ernie who would lie in wait for people and attack them as they walked down the hallway of her apartment. He was a mean, big cat, but my aunt felt he was just misunderstood by everyone…
My cat did that too – I constantly had torn up ankles. And visitors did not like him either (or my exH, for that matter 😉 )
Bummer about the exes, cat and spouse. But you made me laugh out loud. My bossy, grouchy old cat used to try to jump into the open oven when he was a kitten. It was very stressful! He also jumped into the tub with my kids a few times, and then went mad with fury trying to climb out, his paws uselessly scraping the sides of the tub.
Oh no!! Poor u.
Oh gosh that’s too bad you lost good things. I’ve had that unpleasant awakening with a chirping sound too, but it was a fire extinguisher that needed a new battery. It takes a long time between chirps so you can kind of drift off and then “CHIRP!” and oh no ugh gotta get up… Find a stepladder somewhere so you can reach up and take the damn thing down and disarm it. THEN try to get back to sleep, with many cats awake and thinking it must be breakfast time! I sympathize.
If it’s any consolation I think the yogurt is probably fine and the milk should be okay for a few days–the warmth will just shorten its life. Bummer!
Ahhhh so frustrating! At least you have Bois des Iles for comfort.
Cold and snowy, I’m sampling Gabrielle for the hundredth time. I like it for spring. It’s happy and easy going.
I thought the dry down smelled great on that one; I liked it better than the opening. The whole thing is extremely pleasant though.
It is pleasant…perfect description.
I like it so I mean pleasant in a good way
Definitely, I certainly didn’t mean to sound disparaging. I can’t imagine anyone hating Gabrielle, although I understand that plenty of people were hoping for something a bit more daring.
I have yet to properly sample that one even though I’ve passed it countless times. I should remedy that.
I have a lot more cold weather perfumes than anything else, so the silver lining of the crumby weather is that I get to wear them more. I guess I almost always wear perfume in the winter, but in the past I’ve only been sporadic about it when it’s warm out. Although now that I read this site I might get some ideas…
Anyway, in Hermes Vetiver Tonka today. I would be sad to be without this perfume, it feels right on days when nothing else quite fits the bill.
Ah, yes, there are many lovely things to wear in warm weather but fall and winter are really the best seasons for perfumes 🙂 Hope you get turned on to some good summer scents this year!
Our electricity is going to be cut from 9-4 today and the road to our house is closed ( except for weekends ) for another six weeks so I am thinking about a perfume that has a self-reliant vibe. But also something to aid maximum productiveness so I can do all my computer work on battery . It’s a fabulous day…cool, no clouds, no wind, smell of leaves…very still and quiet. I think Ostara might be nice.
First mouse in the roof last night…autumn.
I am trying to wrap my head around the road to your house being closed for 6 weeks… How long is the road? Does this mean you cannot use a car for that period of time?
It just means I have to leave the car on another road, about a five minute walk from home. So it’s no problem. And weekends are okay as they don’t use their diggers etc. so we can get through.
Got it. A 5 minute walk is still a bit much, though. I guess you’ll be putting off any big, heavy purchases for a while…
A nice wagon is in order!
It’s a stunning autumn morning here, a cloudless blue sky, and all the more precious because it’s getting very late in the year for such lovely days. I’m going with all year round elegance in Lubin’s Nuit de Longchamps.
I heard we are going to have a nice warm autumn this year.
Enjoying my sample of Onda Voile d’extrait, I really like it, but I absolutely love Rubj EdP, it really makes me swoon!
I like Onda a lot but Rubj is my favorite from Vero Perfumo.
SOTD for me is something I applied only at about 3 p.m. when I visited Kuhl-Linscomb in Houston, a favorite perfume destination. Unfortunately they didn’t seem to have anything new of interest–I’m afraid they’re falling behind, perhaps due to personnel turnover. But I did try several sprays on skin of Aedes de Venus’s Oeillet Bengale and am very much enjoying its spicy goodness. We’ve had full spring here now for about a month: the azaleas have now peaked and oleanders are coming on strong. But last night a big storm came through and cleared the air and lowered temperatures to the low 70’s and this carnation goodness does seem perfect to me for this sort of a spring day.
That is a great scent, I should wear it this week.
I hope that both Bear and Perfumelover 67 are doing OK. Thinking good thoughts for you all!
I am sore, as promised, from the oral surgery (gum graft) I had this morning. Advil seems to be keeping the worst of the discomfort down. It’s going to be interesting while things are healing… some of my favorite foods are off limits for a while. 🙁
SOTD = Byredo Gypsy Water, from the sample that refuses to quit.
Oh, sorry to hear about the pain and the diet. Maybe this is good, if you want to try out some nice smoothie recipes or something? Get better soon!
One of the things I was told to avoid for the next 2 weeks are “small seeds”. I’m thinking that lots of my favorite fruits, like blueberries and raspberries, fit that description. Time to get some applesauce…
Oy, hope the recovery goes well. I am doing all I can to avoid that in the future, but I think everyone in my family has had to at some point (and some of them twice.)
Yikes!!! Going thru a gum graft twice makes me cringe just thinking about it.
Oh my gosh, just the words gum graft sound uncomfortable. Hope the healing is quick. Joining you in thoughts about Bear, and now Perfumelover67. Hoping they are ok.
Thanks, lillyjo!
Hope the recovery is quick and you’re not in too much pain! And for what it’s worth, I think you smell great!
Thanks, KellyC!
Oh gosh, Jalapeño! I wish you a speedy recovery, and I hope the Advil is enough for the job! Can you get something else if not? Now would be a great time to take advantage and indulge if you like mashed potatoes, for example. ????
(PS, the mere words “oral surgery” nearly made me run for the hills—I’ve endured enough myself. Blech. I literally feel your pain!)
Oh dear, hope it is much better soon! And hope you can have ice cream!
I have one of those in my future, I try not to think about it. When my mom had one she laid in bed and cried for 2 days. Hope yours isn’t too bad.
In Ciel d’opale by Ann Gerard today – thanks to a lovely surprise pack from Ann! To me, this is close to a perfect spring scent – but you have to apply a lot. I think I went through most of the sample this morning. No matter, it’s nice to use up samples and I may put on the rest tomorrow for my flight to San Diego because it won’t bother anyone and make me feel good.
Have a good flight, sure wish I was in SD!
Waving from SD! I am flying out to Montreal Friday.
Have a good trip to Montreal – never been there, would like to go someday. I used to live in Ocean Beach…
I live in Ocean Beach, on Narragansett. 🙂
First on Narragansett, then on just over on Froude – maybe we used to be neighbors! But we moved away in 06.
Moved in to the house in 2003, so we were neighbors for a while.
D.S. & Durga’s Mississippi Medicine for me today. Ugh…just looked at the weather and our autumn is retreating again next week as they predict a return to 35C (95F)! What is that all about… *sigh* I want to wear Chergui dammit! I need Chergui weather…
What I wouldn’t give for your 95!
Hah! I know! We’re never happy with what we have are we?
Not sure if you will be reading this but many many thanks for your PSA the other day!!! I did pop over 🙂 Thank you !!!!! and I truly hope all will be restored 🙁
Hey there you are! I did see you’d got it yesterday when I popped back over there to see if there were any updates from Portia. I hope so too 🙁
Hump Day SOTD is Annick Goutal Quel Amour!
Seeing Donatella today was a bit of a shock because I forgot it was time for her to appear again. But now I realize why I had my recurring perfume dream (unsuccessfully trying to find Serge Lutens scents during a short trip abroad) last night: she was announcing her arrival. ????
That reminds me that I had a dream recently where I was delighted to come across and browse through a department store display of tester bottles of some hard-to-find scents—all in a snazzy perfume version of an automat! If nothing like that already exists, I’m taking credit for the idea now!! ????
Patent it, quick!
The wind is so strong outside and had been going on pretty much all afternoon into night. I hope no power outage!
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP with an extra spritz for Jalapeño
Very busy at work and I have 2 more meetings tonight.
Now off to check out the damage poll!
Thanks! I needed that virtual spritz today!
You smell divine!
I need to get a good sniff of N°19 on someone else, because I don’t think it (or any galbanum-heavy scent) agrees with my skin. ????
Don’t get blown away in that wind!
My husband is driving through that wind, he says it has been less than fun, but he is only 500 miles from Montreal and will be home tomorrow night if all goes well.
Busy day for me as well. Not necessarily a Spring fragrance but I’ve got on Prada Oeillet (spelling may be off?)
I was perusing the garden centre few weeks ago and noticed they had carnations available. They are on my growing list. Spring can’t be that far!
