Argh, Monday again. Birthdays today: Diana Ross, Robert Frost, Guccio Gucci. It's also Purple Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm waking up with Alba Botanica Kona Coffee After-Sun Lotion.
Reminder: on 3/30, to honor Women's History Month, wear a fragrance by perfumer Germaine Cellier or Josephine Catapano, if you have one. If you don't, wear a fragrance by any female perfumer.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

L’eau de Kasaneka..my skin amps up the ambrette seed so this is one of the most gorgeous musks with extraordinary lasting power.
last night lots of testing- Violet Chocolatiere..smells like Dame Perfumery Chocolate Man on Violets…my sweet tooth likes this one
Cafe Diem is also really good…not what I was expecting as in not very sweet but I like it nonetheless. And Ere smells like Christmas to me…..
Is that you CM8? ???? waving hello.
yes my dear its me
“waving back”
You smell lovely!
thank you
I am truly enjoying it!
I almost didn’t recognize you without the avatar. What happened?
I thought the same. Bring back the Avatar cm8!
Undina and Elisa-
This was who I was when I first came on to NST three years ago
Congratulations on your anniversary but don’t you think that it’s better celebrated with something nice and sweet… Like macaroons, for example?
Undina you are hysterical
It’s time to bring the 3-eyed (ok, edible) owl back!
TGIM after a long work weekend. My girls are on spring break this week and are home this year instead of traveling to Florida to be with the grands. Maybe we will do some spring-cleaning. I’m sure they’d be thrilled.????
I’m continuing to make my way through the sample pile and today is Miller Harris La Fumee, sent to me by the generous flopper. So many of my samples I have tested and put aside for the freebiemeet, but this one has stopped me in my tracks. I can’t stop smelling myself! Definitely going on the fb list. It is lovely!
Great choice. I got an inexpensive bottle of this and it is go to for nights out. Have a super day.
Thank you! I see that fragrancenet has it for a very good price.????
Isn’t fragrancenet the bomb???
Yes! They have the best prices!
Agree…but I have also seen some extraordinarily inexpensive prices on fragrancex…I am fairly certain that is where I bought the Berdoues bottles.
My full bottle list just continues to grow and grow no matter how I try to keep it from doing so!
Same! It’s exhausting, isn’t it? Lol.
Glad you are enjoying!!
Thank you! That’s the fun thing about unexpected surprises, this one was not even on my radar to try and I am loving it!
Do you (or anyone else) know how la Fumée compares to the newer la Fumées (Ottoman, Maroc, Intense, etc)? I love the older la Fumee, but the new bottles and packaging are just soooooo pretty.
I have Ottoman and Intense, I prefer Ottoman.
Have you ever tried the “regular” la Fumee? What do you prefer about the Ottoman version?
I tried a sample of the original against the Intense and the Ottoman, they appealed to me more although I can’t recall exactly why now. After wearing the Intense and the Ottoman from a FB I prefer the Ottoman.
Good question. This is my first Miller Harris experience, but I am intrigued by the others also.
If you love Citrus and mint, I can vouch for Citron Citron. ????.
Mmm, this sounds great.
I like Citron Citron too, especially on my SO. Other MH faves are L’air de Rien (I love it so much!), Figue Amere, La Pluie, and Fleur du Matin.
La Fumee is my husband’s favourite, one of mine too!
I can see how it could be a favorite!
Encens Mythique from a sample vial
Shalimar Tea
“Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire,
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.”
Nice, thanks for the Frost poem!
Wow, that took me back
Thanks for the poem. Oh! I have a lippie suggestion for you. A brand called essence vibrant shock lip paint. It’s super cheap and not drying. Goes on more sheer than it looks. I got one in deep burgandy, but it’s tasteful. I found it at Ulta.
I had that poem memorized back in high school. I hadn’t thought of it in ages…
SOTD is Tabac Rouge by Anne-Cecile Douveghan. I googled the perfumer’s name and the only information I can find on this person is that she(?) created Tabac Rouge. It is a shame there is no information on her other scents, because I like TR very much. Anyway, someone named Anne-Cecile is probably a woman, so I hope my scent fits the project.
Of course it does! And I will imagine that a female perfumer developed the scent for my Kona Kai lotion, maybe
Yes, because who knows? Maybe it was a female perfumer!
Wearing brown wool trousers, “serious” Italian leather shoes, a blue and brown striped button down shirt and topped off with OJ Woman, all for an important meeting scheduled for 9AM. Meeting was cancelled. Oh well, I smell good.
AND you look good, too, even if it was cancelled!
You DO smell good!
Styling with clothes and scent.
Beautiful combination. Well heeled and smelling gorgeous. ????
and look good..
I love the smell of serious Italian leather shoes.
Ha! Yes, that’s a great smell.
Smelling and looking great!
All dressed up… Looking and smelling good!
Nice combination!
Bvlgari Black for a cool rainy day. And created by a female perfumer.
Robin, what do you think of the fragrance in your Alba Botanica Kona lotion? I was intrigued by this one, but some Amazon reviews say it smells like cocoa butter rather than coffee.
I am with Jessica on this one (the link above is to her review): it smells like milky coffee. That said, my bottle is a few years old and no idea if it’s been reformulated.
I am always looking for good coffee scents, hmmm
Better try it first — near as I can tell, body products get reformulated as often as perfumes.
Bleu framboise by Jean-Michel Duriez
Oh. That looks like a good one!!
I’m in Hermes 24 Faubourg, and today it seems to be fading more quickly than usual. Not sure what’s up with that – I don’t usually have scent-eating skin. Maybe it’s just my nose.
I wore that one last night and good grief, I think I love it more each time I wear it. It’s such a beauty! It really lasted on me yesterday evening, but I did spray heavy handed since I was home alone haha. You smell fab!!
Thank you all for your supporting and encouraging words during the weekend. I have read your comments many times. Caring people like you is what gives me the strengh to keep going on in life. Despite hard times now, I do not stop coming to this blog because I know that I am surrounded by fragranced friends that are always there for any of us at anytime. That is a gift I treasure immensely. Thank you and hugs to all!
SOTD Comme des Garcons Jaisalmer. Very fleeting. I usually layer it with Aftelier Ancient Resins (Elisa P. suggestion), but today I didn’t. I had hopes it would last longer since I sprayed on the whole sample. Wrong! I still can smell it on my blouse very lightly and I am enjoying it.
Have a nice week NST!
Glad to see you and cheering you on!!
Thank you!
I’m so glad you do not stop coming by here! We would miss you!!!
That is so nice of you! Thank you!
Hugs back and know we’re all thinking of you and hoping things will look up for you soon. And you smell great today!
Thank you Elisa P! You also smell wonderful in Geisha Green!
Oh I am so happy to see you here today! ????❤☄
Thank you. Always glad to be here! ????
Adding my well wishes for you. I hope things start getting better soon.
Thank you!
You smell(ed) great, I love Jaisalmer. I’m glad you’re here!
Thank you! Trying my best.
I am glad you mystery package issue was successfully solved. Enjoy your goodies!
Happy to see you here today!
Thank you!
Sampling a swap extra: Edward Bess + Colette In A Scent. Good fit for Purple Day – it’s a plum scent!
Wearing Guerlain’s Bois d”armenie which is quickly winning the race to be my next FB.
Created by Annick Menardo, so another stunning winner from the ladies.
House cousins today..
You smell great! I think BdA is FB worthy
Beware of refo – ask cazaubon!
Yes, unless you’re sampling the current version and loving it, I recommended re-sampling before buying. It is quite a bit less dense than when it was first released.
I’m wearing Tommy Girl, which is fitting in with our warm spring weather. This one is by Calice Becker.
You smell great!! Love Tommy Girl.
Yesterday we switched to Daylight saving time here in The Netherlands
So this morning I struggled a bit more than usual to get out of bed.
SotD is Dryad by Papillon.
You may be dragging, but you’re smelling great! Hope your day goes quickly. ????
Thank you! I had a pretty busy schedule, so thankfully the day went by quite fast.
Hope a good dose of coffee is helping you!
Coffee, sunrises and birds singing. To me those are the only good things of having to wake up early ????????
You’re smelling great! Maybe I’ll wear Dryad this week.
Thank you!
I was unaware of this weeks theme this morning, but Dryad fits
I ❤️ Dryad. A lot.
Inviting spring in Ostara, a gift from the generous morejasmineplease. I really like it; it smells like gardening in March/April. I’m surprised the manufacturer didn’t give it more of a chance, since it seems like such a cheerful crowd-pleasing floral. At least it’s hard to imagine anyone actively disliking it, and Penhaligon’s certainly has much weirder scents than this in their catalog.
I’m with u on Ostara, why oh why did they discontinue it?
It’s spring in a bottle!
They pulled it so quickly it makes me wonder if they ran into sourcing problems.
I suspected some issue with materials too.
Starting the week with Azemour from Parfum d’Empire. At least this citrus chypre added some sunshine to this gray Monday.
You smell like spring!
Fantastic perfume! I recently discovered it and I fell in love with it right away. You smell wonderful!
i hope spring comes for you soon!!! we finally got sunshine today. It completely changes my mood. I can’t move one inch further north for the rest of my life. And, I imagine you smell terrific, I look forward to sniffing that one soon.
Miu Miu L’Eau Bleue today and drinking a cup of orange passionfruit jasmine tea.
Love Leau Bleue. You smell very pretty!
Tea sounds great, who makes it?
Lipton. On the inside of box, it reads “Feel the fragrant hit of orange, passion fruit and jasmine flavors in a refreshing, light tasting blend of green tea”
Thanks!
yes, sounds really good!
Dreading work for some reason and wearing Chanel no 19 edt for backbone. I’m excited though, both the LADDM and vintage L’Heure Bleue are arriving in the mail today. So I do have something to look forward to.
19 should provide lots of backbone !
Hope your day is grand
Hope the No. 19 gives your the backbone you need. You smell great. And I am glad you have something to look forward to today!
Yay, package day! We all love that.
Good morning Y’all…
Prim and proper today in Estee Lauder Very Estee. I haven’t worn this one in over a year…shame on me. This is a good one!
You smell VERY ladylike.
In a tiny spritz of Velvet Lavender, thanks to Downtown Scott, and on the purple theme purely by accident.
Going back to PT today for more work on the shoulder, and couldn’t help but be just a teeny bit fragrant. But this afternoon, Katie bar the door, I’m trying Salome on skin. ????
Glad you are enjoying!!
I don’t know Velvet Lavender, but yes to Salome!
+1 love Salome!
Oh my goodness, I love Salome! It immediately reminded me of vintage Bal EdC. This is naughty and wonderful every step of the way.
Can anyone comment on how this compares to MKK if you please?
And I completely forgot to thank Coin-op for the lovely swap! Thanks, lady. ????
a total pleasure and thank you for my perfume, I can’t wait to try it soon! I hope your shoulder continues to improve!
Hope that your PT session went well!
It did go well, better than I expected. I’ve managed to get a leetle more range of motion in the last few weeks. ????????
Dragging my feet in moving the smaller things – today I’m wearing a sample Oud for Love, which reminds me of a shampoo I used to use back in the mid-80s. Cannot remember the name of it. OfL isn’t soapy – and isn’t sticking around so I guess I’ll find something later. Have a great week!
Trying to imagine an 80s shampoo that would have smelled like oud!
I actually think it was Pantene – but the bottle back then had a screw top, gold? Do you remember? I want to say it was the pink color/formula. And Pantene used to be sold in department stores, from what I remember.
Don’t know this one, but loved the yellow Pantene. I remember those screw tops. It was a special splurge shampoo for me – wish it were still around (the fragrance of the shampoo, at least).
Yes, me too!
Oh, interesting! Yes, it was a luxury to buy Pantene back then. For the life of me I cannot remember the smell, though.
No idea what Shampoo it could be, but wanted to add that I miss the scent of Finesse. I don’t see it much, but when I smell it, it doesn’t smell at all like it used too. I am wondering what kind of scent it was, maybe tea? Is there any catalog for shampoo scents like fragrantica?
Ever since I started having weekends (you know, since I stopped being in grad school and started working a real job), I’ve found weekends to be way too short. Mondays are hard, dear friends. Bon courage.
I am in Hwyl today! It went on pretty rough, though maybe that was because Aesop samples are those horrible moist towelette samples. After ~15 min, it became pretty great. I thought I was smelling loads of frankincense, but when I looked it up, it said it had olibanum. I looked up olibanum, and it’s…frankincense! So whew, my nose isn’t broken. A two-minute search won’t tell me who the perfumer is, so I don’t know if I fit with the community project. Oh well. I’ll do better for the rest of the week!
Agreed on Mondays. I almost felt “sick” today and was going to work from home, but decided I’d be good and come on into the office, but it sure was hard!
You smell good! I tried Hwyl for first time last weekend. I like it a lot
Question: Has anyone tried both Hwyl and Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme? Kevin said in his Hwyl review that they are similar. Do you know how similar they are? The Gucci is way cheaper than the Aesop, so if they’re dupes, I’d much rather have the Gucci (unattractiveness of the bottle notwithstanding).
I have, and to me they are not that similar. I much prefer the Hwyl.
That’s good to know. I can’t lie; I was eyeing a couple cheap bottles of GGAPH on eBay. You’ve saved me from ~$35 and more clutter on my perfume counter.
On the downside, that means if I want Hwyl, I’ll have to buy Hwyl. Maybe someone will split it. Only, uh, three or four months to the next splitmeet!
Have you tried Aftelier Ancient Resins? How would you compare that one to Hwyl?
Hwyl is a lot stronger and woodier.
I’m sampling Mary Greenwell Plum today, which is not by a female, so I’ll participate the rest of the week. The Plum sample I got from the swapmeet was calling my name, though. I have to admit, it smells like grape Kool-Aid to me at first but I’m enjoying the flowers as it dries down! Probably not FB love, but I’m enjoying it today!
Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday.
good morning everyone,
I’m in Baiser Vole extrait from the swapmeet (yay swapmeet!). Funny, I never much cared for the smell of real lilies – but I really like it in fragrance. on the other hand, I love smelling real roses but rarely enjoy smelling like a rose.
Planning to wear female perfumers all week – fun!
For female perfumer week I’m wearing Aroma M Geisha Green which smells like a bright, juicy, maybe more masculine version of Lolita Lempicka. Maybe LL Au Masculin? Haven’t smelled that one in a while.
Sounds like something I need to try.
It’s a fun one!
I like that one, and I have smelled it on guys and gals. You smell terrific!
Thanks! It’s pretty unisex, but I get a bit of a barbershop vibe from it.
Had to look at the perfumers list and do some research in order to participate today. Thanks to Australian Perfume Junkies, I found that my Lostmarc’h Lann Ael was created by Amelie Bourgeouis. So happy I bought a bottle of this one.
Thanks for doing the research (so I didn’t have to); I’m off to find my bottle of Lann-Ael.
Yay! I don’t see it mentioned much so nice to see someone else wearing it. We smell good!
Swap Alert: I got a package today from someone in San Mateo, CA with the initials YK that I don’t remember arranging a swap with. Given the contents, this person knows my tastes (and my address). Can you please email me again with what I was supposed to send you? I am obviously confused.
Meanwhile I am wearing a spritz of Bois Marocain for yoga.
I don’t know the answer to your mystery, but I did just check the status of the package I sent you, which was supposed to arrive to you today. USPS, however, HAS NO TRACKING INFO FOR IT. So now I’m very concerned. Keeping my fingers crossed that it’s just the tracking that’s messed up, and that the package is safely en route to you or already in your possession. *stress stress stress*
According to the post office’s rules for itself, they aren’t actually required to scan the package until it goes out for delivery. Most of the time, they do scan it at several points along the way. My local PO is particularly lazy about scanning packages when they receive them…grrr.
A package I dropped off at the same time as cazaubon’s has already reached its destination! So I sure HOPE they scanned it >:o but I will just try not to stress out.
I got the package today, have no fear! And thank you for your lovely goodies!
Phew, that’s a relief! Thanks for letting me know
The mystery has been solved.
Hi all, My SOTD is Bandit extrait by Piguet.
Yum! You smell amazing!
Thanks!
For the Purple Day will be wearing Krigler Lieber Gustav (the color of juice is kind of purple under certain light and it’s a lavender scent).
Robin, your SOTD makes me want to go back to Big Island and visit some coffee plantations I visited the last trip to there: it was so good!
Hey, anything makes me want to go to Hawaii
Me too! Hawaii is my happy place.
Cold crisp day and am wearing Le Labo Rose 31, by Daphne Bugey. The cumin in this is behaving beautifully today and I smell gorgeous, IMHO.
You do indeed smell gorgeous!
SOTD is Tom Ford London, just because it called to me this morning, and I’m smelling pretty great if I do say so myself. I finished off Amber Week #2 on Friday in O Hira – O Heaven! I could even do Amber Week #3 but don’t feel like it at the moment. Stay tuned.
I think I could just about do a week of Germaine Cellier and Josephine Catapano, oddly enough. I binged on perfume mini’s a while back, and some are old enough to actually contain the old versions of the scents. My Youth Dew mini may be too new to be Josephine’s formula, and emmmm, not gonna wear that anyway. My little mini’s of Jolie Madame and Vent Vert are definitely the old versions, and they’re fabulous. My mini of Fracas might be the old version and (whispers here) I’ve never gotten up the nerve to try it, knowing that tuberose is not my friend. Perhaps I shall be brave about it later this week.
I don’t have a thing by Josephine Catapano! But I could do almost a week in my different formulations of Fracas, so I will wear it for both of us
Robin, I am following your coffee trend in Kopi Luwak Attar by The Rising Phoenix. A very realist coffee oud – I have never tried the coffee, but I do love the attar
Oh, that sounds fun!
I just plunked down 2 bennies at the Etsy site!
Happy Monday!
1) Am back from Los Angeles! The differences in a decade are incredible to see. It was great to see friends, to hang out in Santa Monica and Venice, to eat at Gjelina, Food Lab and Gjusta, to have incredibly fresh and super cheap Mexican and Central American food, to see the Getty Complex ( a palace in the sky, guys- DO NOT MISS) and to walk, walk, walk.
2) All the SHOPPING. WOW. Abbot Kinney is a incredible walk, with one high end brand after another. The highlight fragrance wise was checking out Strange Invisible Perfumes, a slip of a shop with the wonderful scents on the bar. They are RIGHT next door to Le Labo (because of course they are) but the employee (argh, I forgot his name already ) was super sweet and VERY helpful. My favorite was Fair Verona. The prices are….eyewatering.
https://siperfumes.com/collections/eaux-de-parfum/products/fair-verona?variant=123683110956
3) As are all the prices on Abbott Kinney- $500 shirts, and $300 jeans are not uncommon. and of course the fabrics are top notch, and of course the fit is perfect. *cries*
4) And I got to Scent Bar (LuckyScent). Wonderful people, great selection. I had too many favorites, so I got some nifty samples to try! And if you are in to the whole ‘ luxury green beauty’ bit, do give Detox Market a try; great staff and incredible green beauty brands, all in one roof.
5) Finally, SOTD: Vanille d’Iris by Ormande Jayne. This is a really lovely way to wear iris in the spring; you get a lovely vanilla grounding the iris, and it’s not a sugar bomb at all. You can wear all day and on warm spring/summer nights as well.
It sounds like you had a perfect trip. Maybe one day I’ll go to LA again and have a better experience than it was 15 years ago.
As to perfume prices, do you really need more than 15 ml of any perfume? $115 for 15 ml is expensive per ml but if this is all you need for the next 5 years, does it really matter that it’s not a 50 ml bottle?
You know, I was seriously thinking about this! That given how I would use and rotate through scents, the $115 is not so much! And because these are ‘natural’ perfumes, you really don’t want a huge bottle because the scents could turn over the years.
What a fab sounding trip! You *almost* have me missing LA. And it has changed. A Lot. (But so has Brooklyn in the 16 years I’ve been here). I spent the 1st 21 years of my life there and it looks different everytime I go visit.
Oh, I grew up in Brooklyn and anytime I go I feel like I am in a different land. And I am. Nothing is stagnant, everything changes.
There is heartbreak in LA- the homeless population in DTLA is shocking-here i am trying on literally thousands of dollars of clothing and jewelry in the arts district meanwhile there are groups of desperate souls on skid row. And so many hyphenates in order to survive the costs of housing in LA.
BUT. The metro area has cleaned up considerably and it felt VERY safe to walk (with friends) at night (at least on the West side) The mass transit is IMPRESSIVE- very clean and efficient. It will not replace the car in LA but my gosh I was able to get around quite a bit. I could see myself living in LA again….If I could make $100K a year, of course.
Oh I am going to LA Thursday. I always visit Scent Bar but may need to add some stops if I can get away from work!
I’m wearing Epic woman today, lovely on a grey day. My latest eBay bargain arrived today, a new pair of Made in Heaven Marrakesh flares for £22! they fit like a glove, and so comfy!
You smell great, and congrats on your ebay score!
Lovely SOTD, and nice eBay buy!
Thanks!
SotD = Infusion d’Amande
Smells purple to me. I’ve missed wearing this one. My decant practically jumped out at me this morning.
Yesterday I sampled Caleche edt for the first time, with thanks to a fabulous NST uber-perfumista! Eau des Merveilles is on deck for later today.
Have marvelous Monday, fragrant friends.
I love this one. A non sweet almond. Lovely for spring.
SOTD is Infusion d’Iris edp, first time this season. I put away Infusion d’Iris absolue until fall. Both of these are wonderful and smell much more expensive than they are–AND created by a female perfumer.
Happy Monday, everyone.
I agree: these both are much nicer than one would expect from department store perfumes.
I’m wearing a purple shirt today entirely by accident. It happens to be one of my favorite colors.
SOTD is Dune, created by Nejla Barbir (according to fragrantica).
Love Dune, I need to wear that again asap.
Dune is a favorite of mine, you smell nice!
Well, my power just came on after 40 hours out… (whew! good! I’ll have to throw out the contents of the fridge and some of the things in the freezer, but looks like the big chest freezer will survive.) After a much-needed shower
I’ll put on some 24, Faubourg.
We had an isolated snowstorm dump 16 inches of very wet and heavy snow on us on Saturday. My parents, 50 miles away, got 3 inches. As of this morning there were 17,000 households without electricity, and I was SO GLAD to have it back. We have electric everything other than a fireplace (no oil furnace or gas stove) and even the well pump is electric, so we were considering a hotel just to be able to get clean.
What a nightmare! So glad you have electricity back.
Hopefully this will be the last storm of the season. You have bravely survived without electricity.
And this is probably the last time you will be wishing for snow
Ha! I didn’t want to be the one to say it. But you know CM, you and I might get hit with unbearable heat this summer ????
heh
House camping sucks, especially in the winter. Yay for electricity!
Gosh, so sorry Mals!
This is why I will always have to live in the deep South!!! LOL! I just can’t do snow and ice….
Glad things are much better now!!!
We have only electricity and not even a fireplace in Montreal, so we bought a generator. Glad you have power again!
Oh yuk! Losing a fridge and freezer full of food sucks! Fingers crossed that this is the last time you will have to deal with no electricity for a while. ????
I had choice paralysis for the good part of the morning (see Undina’s recent blog post for more on the challenges of choosing a perfume every day, n/a), but I settled on Andrea Maack Coven. The perfumer isn’t a woman, but I’ll wear perfumes by women the rest of the week. Coven was bothersome to my coworker the one time I wore it to work, but she’s working from home today.
I think I get bonus points for wearing my Ouija planchette necklace and Coven at the same time. ????
Great choice. And definite bonus points.
Ditto this!
In an effort to soften my hardened work attitude, wearing LouLou. So sweet and powdery on me. I would love it in a shower gel. It’s not by a woman perfumer, but I figure the name gives me points.
Sounds like you are hanging in there!
Update on the kitty after dental extractions: She’s eating occasional dry treats with no problem and has tolerated my clumsy administrations of her antibiotics without holding a grudge. She really is a sweet cat.
Purple and female perfumers I’m failing on both counts today, as I’m wearing a teal turtleneck and gray cords with four spritzes of Shanghai Lily.
Always good when our furry friends get back to normal.
She sounds like a sweetie <3 glad she's doing better! You smell great.
Yay for kitty feeling/doing better! ????
Thank you for the update. Our furry friends seem to know when we are trying to help them so they seem to tolerate our clumsiness.
She sounds like a sweetheart!
Sounds like kitty is feeling better.
Glad to hear your kitty is feeling better!
Dear gosh. I am having a bad week and left a nasty comment on a review by Kevin. I never had done so before and truly apologize. I love this blog and am sorry for my lack of tact.
We all have bad days. Spritz on some some scent and turn it right around!
It is good of you to apologize. I do often wish the comment sections of these pages allowed for edits.
Hope your day improves. Maybe a quick walk and a spritz of a perfume you love can help you some.
It feels awful when we act out of character in a negative way, but a sincere apology can go a long way.
Michael, he will not see your apology here if that’s what you were meaning to have happen.
The smallest bit of bandit, as I am at work today. It’s like a time travel machine. I also dropped my sunscreen in the cat’s litter box (don’t ask/and yes it’s grey and slightly raining here, but I wear sunscreen every day to maintain my pallor, ha) so am wearing a random packet sample of sunscreen that smells of vague floral/aldehydes, which is upping the out-of-place scent.
I will definitely be in Bandit some time this week!
I’ll take all the full spectrum direct rays I can get in the winter (and fall and spring)
I love aldehydes but am not sure that’s what I want massaged into my face… hmmm.
Wearing Youth Dew today for the first time in ages – I usually go for Amber Nude. Good to revisit the original, though – loving that spicy cola-esque note!
Glad to see Youth Dew showing up, especially since I haven’t got any (or any that I can find, I used to have some).
Hi, everyone, and thanks so much again for all of the well-wishes over the weekend about my recent hip replacement dislocation. I am doing a lot better already. A good friend sent me a fantastic bouquet with a cat in it (you have to see it to understand, and here is a picture of it with my real cat, Dusty): https://www.flickr.com/photos/94283635@N00/40307051274/.
SOTD is from a Luckyscent gwp sample of Areej le Dore Russian Oud. My golly this goes on STRONG and POTENT. A gorgeous patchouli-like oud. I looked it up on Fragrantica and this part of their description really made me guffaw: “At the top, it reveals caramelized oudiness, a note that, upon entering the nostrils, seems to reach the deepest brain cells, causing them to vibrate in complete olfactory euphoria.” HA ha ha haHA!! The weird thing is that after this explosive opening, the scent appears to me to have very little longevity. Figure that out!
Wow. Both kitties are gorgeous. Glad to hear you are feeling better.
Oooh both those kitties, how cute!
Russian Oud was lovely but quite sweet to me, i only wore it once and cant remember a thing about its longevity haha.
So beautiful! Keep feeling better!
What a beautiful bouquet! (and your kitty is very handsome too). I hope you get completely well as soon as possible.
That is a great bouquet
and a lovely cat!
The flowers and your kitty are both equally adorable! Here’s to a quick recovery for you!
How fun is that basket of flowers! That is a good friend
BOth the kitties are adorable!
Great bouquet and handsome kitty!
Fun flowers and gorgeous kitty!
Thank you for sharing! How fun????????
Glad you are feeling a bit better.
Black Perfecto from the recent swapmeet for me today. It’s a warm cheery-leather at this point of wear but I like it, not a lot, but enough to be happy with the swap.
Enjoying some of my Licorice Legs tea from T2. So glad this shop opened up since we lost Teavana recently. Also purchased a new in-mug tea infuser for work that I’m excited to use!
I need to spend more time with Black Perfecto, I’d like to get a little more of the leather.
I blind-bought BP and can’t say I love it but can say I love wearing it, if that makes sense. Loads of fun – I get a kick out of it every time.
I really enjoy Black Perfecto which reminds me I should get it out this week!
I like Black Perfecto a lot, looking forward to my bottle in Montreal in two weeks.
Wearing Diptyque Eau Mage, this is the dirtier Fleur de Peau I wanted! I wonder how it will be received at work. Who cares?! I love how I smell!
Wishing everyone a good week.
You too! (And I’m sure you smell amazing!)
Wearing Box of Eels in EdP this cool autumn morning. Very nice indeed *sighs happily*
Box of eels in autumn, perfection!
On the plus side, it’s been a beautiful sunny day. On the minus side, yep it’s Monday, and it started with a headache to boot. Headache is gone now, thankfully.
SOTD = Soivohle’s Calcutta, from the sample stash. One for the FB wishlist. It’s a close to the skin scent with a lot of spices and a definite jasmine note. I’m still in the heart notes and haven’t reached the drydown yet.
I had never heard of this perfume! Now I will need to seek it out. That’s the city both my parents are from. Hopefully they’ve kept out the stench of phenol (found in many Indian cleaning products) and burnt rubber (from clogged motorways), but I’d be thrilled if the scent transported me back to that wonderful, vibrant city.
Did you know that’s where Neila Vermeire is from as well?
What!! She’s Bengali?? That’s so cool! I wonder what her birth name is. (Vermeire is not a Bengali surname, which is why I didn’t realize that.) I will need to research her as best I can.
How exciting
I’m thrilled I love her scents so much! (I’ve got to find myself a sample of Niral.)
Her husband is Belgian, that’s her married name, I don’t know her maiden name unfortunately.
Ahh of course. How silly of me. Makes sense!
Koyel, there is no hint whatsoever of phenol or burnt rubber in Calcutta to my nose. I get spices, jasmine, and amber in a lovely warm scent.
Forgot to mention that my sample is a dabber. Soivohle now offers both dab and spray samples, and this might smell different when sprayed.
That sounds beautiful! I will have to seek it out.
My scent of the day is Rose de Siwa from the remains of a decant that I’ve been hoarding. The nose is Francis Kurkdjian so I’m not with the program but It is beautiful nonetheless.
My employer had a bomb threat early this morning so we spent three hours in a lockdown crouching in a back room. Luckily, it was only a threat. Geez, what a way to begin my work week.
Wow, that sounds awful. Just when Mondays couldn’t get any worse… I have to wonder why the escape plan there is to stay on the grounds in a back room? I worked at a gov’t office for a brief period many years ago and we did bomb threat practices regularly. But they were pretty much like a fire escape plan where we left the building.
The building complex is in a rural area with a lot of open land and parking areas surrounded by woods. We do have drills but are not supposed to leave the grounds in an emergency situation. We actually barricade ourselves in. We didn’t find out until much later that it was a bomb threat. I agree that It does sound stupid in this instance. In the case of a shooter, it would be safer to stay inside and hide.
Active Shooter – Run, Hide, Fight, in this order.
Oh no! So scary! However, I do not understand why you all stayed inside the building. Where not you supposed to evacuate right away? Thanks God it was just a threat and you are safe!
I guess not. The police were called in with their amazing trained dogs.
I hope that today is a better day. I’ve been thinking about you and wishing for good things to come your way!
Thank you.
ZOMG, what a terrible way to start the week! ???? Glad to hear that it was not some lunatic with explosives.
And now for something completely different: I’ve heard wonderful things about your SOTD. At least you had that going for you.
It’s beaut. If you want a sample, let me know.
Thanks for the sample offer!
My computer is being kind of cranky re: Internet connectivity lately. I might take a little while to get back to you.
Holy cow! Glad it was nothing, but that’ll wake you right up! And you smelled lovely today. Nice not to have to hoard anymore.
After a not particularly pleasant weekend (endometriosis had me horizontal pretty much from Friday until this morning) I am finally trying Guerlain Insolence (thanks to She-Ra!) I like it a lot more than I expected to. This is a proper lipstick perfume to my mind. I love the whole “cosmetics scent” perfume genre, but most of them smell more like makeup (powder and powdered products) to me. This actually smells like lipstick. Me likey.
I like Insolence very much too. Sorry to hear of the pain you had this weekend. I hope it’s something that you can have treated effectively.
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Hope you recover soon. Rest and take good care of yourself.
Sounds awful. I hope you have relief from the pain.
I hope you are feeling better.
I somehow missed Guerlain Insolence. Maybe I tried it a long time ago when I was not so much into perfume and did not appreciate the whole makeup genre. I do not remember it all, so I should test it properly.
Thank you for reviewing.
Sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant weekend.
So sorry kpaint!
Sorry to hear about your painful weekend.
I can’t believe I haven’t smelled Insolence. I do have an older decant of the sweet My Insolence.
So sorry you’ve been feeling bad. At least you smell good!
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio To Dream
I am doing female perfumer and / or entrepeneur and /or fragrance directory week. SSS To Dream hits the trifecta. So resinous, woody, orris, heliotrope, tonka, among others. I have about 7 mLs left of a 17 mL bottle. I will enjoy what’s left and not hoard!!!
???? Here’s to not hoarding the good stuff!
I’ve heard that To a Dream is a beautiful scent. It sure sounds lovely judging by your description.
Wearing Guerlain Meteorites tonight. Needed something a bit light and soothing.
Just got an email that all the roofs in our townhouse complex are being replaced. Apparently there were 3 or 4 roofs which leaked and somehow now this has morphed into getting all units done. It’s going to cost each unit about $5k split out over the next 4 months in installments.
Is it only Monday?
Ugh, so sorry!!
I really hate homeowners’ associations. Sorry about your big bill.
