Hermès has launched Eau de Citron Noir, a new addition to the brand's unisex Cologne collection. The last in the series were 2016's Eau de Rhubarbe Écarlate and Eau de Néroli Doré.
Eau de Citron Noir was developed by perfumer Christine Nagel. It focuses on black lemon (a kind of dried lime used in Middle Eastern cuisine). Additional notes include lemon and buddha's hand (a variety of citron), Ceylon black tea and Paraguayan wood.
Hermès Eau de Citron Noir is available in 50 (limited edition size), 100 and 200 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching body products. At the moment, it can be found at Nocibe in France or El Corte Inglés in Spain. It will go into wider distribution next month.

Very nice bottle color. The juice sounds good!
It really does sound good, I hope I like it better than the Rhubarbe!
It really is pretty. Hermes usually doesn’t work for me, but I’m going to try this regardless!
Wow – didn’t know this one was coming. Hermes is really churning out a lot lately it seems. I love their cologne line and this looks really interesting… hope it arrives in time for summer. Nice blue!
Most years they do 2-3 regular (not Hermessence) scents — this is only #1 for 2018, so hopefully will turn out that it just seems like churning because of the group of Hermessences (?)
I saw this on Instagram! It sounds lovely.
Ooh I’ll be keen to try this…
I’m on board. Love the bottle!! Black lemon…heck yes.
I smelled it at an airport some two weeks ago. And was SHOCKED. I’m not a fan all things Ellena but it seems his departure marks a change, at least in the Eaux. This has as much to do with the Eaux as has Sauvage with Eau de Saugave. In fact, it smelled LIKE Sauvage to me. In the book of my nose that is an insult… After a brief deceivingly naturalistic lemon on wood opening this turns out to be a citrus monster on musk and rasping ambroxan or sth like that, and it keeps going all day at full volume, like a cheap “sports” scent. The dark blue bottle is apt. It mus be just about the cheapest-smelling stuff the house of Hermès has ever released. I don’t acutally believe Nagel has composed this herself. Or I hope she hasn’t. I will certainly give it a try, because my nose may have been a bit irritated from all the travelling, but I am pretty sure Ellena devotees will be mourning.
meant to say I will give it “a second try”, but don’t have much hope.
Oh, and about the name,… if you’re looking for a “black lemon” try Guerlain’s wonderful Néroli Outrenoir. I think this stuff is diametrically opposed to it in quality.
…If you’re looking for a black lemon, look up the wonderful still life paintings of Donald Sultan 😉
Oh thanks for the tip!
I heard something bad on Twitter too. Shame.
I only smelled on blotter a few days ago, but it was pleasant. A spiky green lemon really. And the base notes read appealing to me, but that doesn’t mean anything necessarily. While I am a bit afraid of its development after your words, I can’t see any resemblance with Néroli Outrenoir. The latter starts nearly feminin and is much more spicy than Hèrmes’ cologne style, citric Citron Noir.
Yes, sorry, I meant it a bit ironic because I have the impression there is not only trends in fragrance notes but also in names and themes… but in my opinion, if you want to call one of the two more cologne-style, interestingly for me it would be Néroli Outrenoir rather than the Eau de Citron Noir. It has petit grain, neroli and gives a herbal, natural impression, with black tea and a long woody-aromatic drydown. When I smelled CN on paper, at first I really liked the beautiful lemon there. I almost bought the new travel edition with 4×15 ml, as it was only 60€. But on skin within 10 minutes it turned very harsh, reminiscent of the smell of a mall drugstore on Saturday afternoons. On skin it last forever, a generic sour-fruity sports scent. The sales assistant pointed out to me that it’s very different from the rest of the line in being much stronger and longer lasting. Well, they certainly did a great job if that was the main aim… I’m sorry for being so negative, I’m just disappointed because I didn’t think that not a single one of the Eaux was bad, even though I didn’t like them all. Plus, it’s so different from anything Hermès.
This is just Bleu de Chanel. I don’t think either of them deserve all the hate they get, but it’s definitely not groundbreaking. It is 100% mainstream and will probably sell quite well to those same people that like a good office/sport fragrance. It’s featured at the Nordstroms mens counters already.
