Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, and welcome to March! Plus, happy Holi, and watch out for the Worm Moon tonight. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Serge Lutens Santal Blanc.
Reminder: 3/2 will be Uncle Serge Day...wear something by Serge Lutens (a repeat from 2014).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Dapper Animal Salad Plate ("Our Dapper Animal Plates are based on paintings of real animals, which designer Rachel Kozlowski then dressed and accessorized to give characters all their own. Mix and match to create your own circle of animal friends.") is $10 at West Elm.
Wearing SL Un Lys – such a warm creamy lily!
Oooh, I love this one. Thx for the reminder. Already wearing UBV, but maybe I will put on a bit of Un Lys tomorrow. All of my SL are samples or decants—I have no full bottles of Serge.
Oh, you do smell lovely today!
Hermes Vetiver Tonka bean for a cool, wet day that will have an indoor recess and lunch in store.
Sounds perfect other than the indoor recess!
Thanks a good one! You smell ????????
I dug out my sample of Borneo. Love a good chocolate-patchouli.
Twins!!
We smell great!
SL Chypre Rouge, the first Lutens I ever bought: I was in New York and had Chypre Rouge in one hand and Un Bois Vanille in the other, and I HAD TO CHOOSE. I picked weird and baffling over soft and comforting, and it was the right choice. (I did end up buying UBV eventually, of course.)
I think my first was Chene, so I guess I went for something in between?
I’m a big fan of Chypre Rouge – it’s in my SL #2 spot, right after Douce Amere.
You smell weird, baffling, and great!
Starting the day with a good spraying of Dries Van Noten par Frederic Malle. I just don’t own any Serge Lutens ☹️
I really like that one!
I think DVN could qualify as Serge-esque? In any event, you smell great!
I have them next to each othering my cabinet so yes, they are most definitely related.
Dries von Noten is one of my favorites from Frederick Malle.
There’s a travel size of Dries in my future. You smell delish! ????
I remembered Rabbit x3..woke up at 12:04 am, said it, and went back to sleep 🙂
S(s)OTD- St Clair Scents Frost (named after the poet)
SSS Winter Woods
Frost starts off with a blast of sweet woody smoky fire (I’m thinking this has nagarmotha, cade, birch tar, labdanum?)…the smoke diffuses a bit and a jammy leathery rose with nectar comes through…the smoky fireplace woody vibe weaves in and out but that sweetness remains…drydown to Marzipan’s wonky nose is strawberry jam and honeysuckle nectar. This would be a spectacular cold weather fragrance.
Winter Woods has always read very sweet on my skin…so for me it starts off with that dark vanilla, labdanum and amber vibe…then the smoke picks up (this is where it most resembles Frost) and the dry down on my sweet amplifying skin is burnt vanilla sugar.
They are similar enough for me that I feel that Frost could indeed replace my beloved Winter Woods.
and Yes, I am in trouble ’cause I want this one also in full size bottle…now if St Clair had an autumn scent I would have a complete seasonal wardrobe- Gardner’s Glove for Spring, First Cut for Summer and Frost for Winter.
Thought of you the other day. I watched a YouTube review on the new Valentino Aqua (?) And it was described as pistachio and marzipan. Oh, I meant Donna aqua.
Nice notes…green almond and frosted pear….and the bottle is so glamorous!
Wonder if it smells like the original Britt which also has almond and pear as listed notes? I wore that one years ago when it first came out.
Wow, sounds like I’m going to need to try Frost! Now that I probably won’t be able to get a bottle of Winter Woods, I could use a replacement
I was gingerly applying my last few mls of Winter Woods but now I don’t feel that I need to 🙂
I love the idea of having a complete seasonal wardrobe.
I know I was thinking that 🙂
Y’all already know that I have been “exploring” minimizing my number of possessions (have done so successfully with my wardrobe)…..wonder if I could do the same with my perfumes? It was Portia’s post on Australian Perfume Junkies not that long ago where the question was posed as to what is your ideal number of full bottles…for many many years mine was around 7…..do you think it is possible to get that number down to 4? one for each season? and then just play around with samples when there is a need to venture out?
I saw that post! This is something I have thought about…a lot…maybe too much, lol. I think it is possible for some people. I don’t have a “goal” per se as a perfumista, but I know I don’t want to have more perfume than I would use in my lifetime, that just would not suit my personality type (and I’m not in that tax bracket anyway so the problem kind of solves itself) and I still like the idea of a signature scent. My original FDTRH (fall down the rabbit hole, thank you Coin-op) was a quest for a new signature scent. I don’t think I’m ready to limit myself to one, but a handful…or two????, that I love would be ideal.
Yes! exactly! a handful or two or three or four…and then a few decants or samples to play around with, right?
For a long time, I kept it under ten, and none really related to season. For me it’s more about falling in love, or lust, and I’m constantly searching. My signature scents have pretty much remained comstant. Alien, Coco, Rush. I would like to get rid of more that I don’t love though.
For about forty years I kept it under ten….and then I found the online blogs…and the rest is history-LOL!
-immediately adds these to must-get list-
Go for the sampler 🙂
Of St Clair Scents because Sonoma Scent Studio is now out of business 🙁
Yes, truly bummed about SSS shuttering. She will be missed!
Put the SCS sampler on the (mile-long) list.
SL Arabie
Does anyone here read The New Yorker, I finished The White Darkness last night, which was about 26 pages, and its the first NYer article that I cried at the end. Anyways, during Henry Worsley trip across the Antartica his wife gave him a sample of Journey Man by Amouage as a small gift..thought the NST community would appreciate that!
I remembered to say rabbit this morning…
Ooh, is this in the latest issue? I’m going to take it on a plane trip tomorrow…
Its the issue from Feb 12-19 (the 2 week issue) The cover is the “butterfly effect”
At first I didn’t want to tackle an article that long, but I am glad I did!
I read it, and just finished the Jan 8 issue — so I will get there eventually! I salute you for staying caught up 🙂
I have a method for how I approach the NYer..first I look at all the cartoons..then shouts and murmurs..then I start to read from the beginning…I know I sound crazy but that is just how I do it!
I do it similarly, but add on a last step where if I subscribe for more than a few months the stack of back issues gets insurmountably high and I unsubscribe again 🙂
There are sections I skip entirely, but I read in order. My son skips ahead to look at comics and then wants to show them to me, and it makes me crazy. Your way is probably more fun.
I have to confess that these days I often stop after going through all the cartoons… Unless I’m flying to somewhere – then I’ll read everything including sections that I would never read otherwise 🙂
You smell wonderful.
Thank you!
I did – just finished it a couple of days ago. I am terrible at keeping up with the New Yorkers and sometimes wish they’d only come every 2 weeks! That was an interesting article. I feel kind of conflicted about it – but in case people here want to read it, I don’t want to give anything away!! 🙂
I can’t relate to him at all, but it was a great article..
Totally forgot about Rabbit this morning…But if last night’s moon was any indication, tonight’s will be spectacular!
Wearing ELDO Fils de Dieu today, also from the splitmeet, and it is MUCH more suited to my skin. That initial bit of lime-y goodness is heaven, and the subsequent coconut and jasmine is great. It does go quite powdery on me after a while (my skin really amplifies powder), which is not fully awesome, but is not awful either.
Hope everyone has a happy scent day!
I wore Fils de Dieu last night. Be sure to try it in hot weather!
Good plan, thanks for the rec!
It’s one I love in all 4 seasons, and smells different depending on the time of year. So try it in spring and fall, too 😉
Breaking into the Vanilla Hinoki today courtesy of kpaint’s Split and will weigh in later…
There wasn’t quite enough vanilla in the Baiser de Russie yesterday and I kind of went through withdrawal. 😉
Ha! Gotta have our vanilla!
My skin must amplify vanilla because that and the caramel pretty much drowned out the other notes. Or, since I’m not drawn to vanilla, I just notice it’s presence more.
Hope VH replenishes your vanilla levels today!
I am curious about your SOTD, I also got that in a split but haven’t received it yet and it was a blind buy… I think today it will come and I am super excited..
Looking forward to your take because I have to say putting vanilla and hinoki together sounds likes oil and vinegar to me whenever I hear the name of this fume.
It is a like but not a love.
To my nose it has a hefty dose of citrus and lavender. Lavender and I are not always friends. I would classify it as a fougere vs. an oriental which I think Fragrantica calls it.
Yes, I just got it and tried it and I don’t love it either…not what I expected.
Happy and peaceful March everyone!
In Phi Une Rose de Kandahar because I was craving badly for it when I woke up this morning. However, after spraying on it, it did not move my heart at all (sigh!). It is a big favorite, so I hope it is just a temporary dislike!
Cofffe and more coffee and ready to face another busy month. I hope it I do not feel it too long….
Maybe you’re just not in the mood for that specific scent at this specific time. Happens to all of us, I would imagine. (The dreadful alternative is that you simply don’t like it any more, which is rare but not unheard of: one day I discovered that my adored MPG Ambre Précieux, the first niche scent I ever bought, was something I never, ever wanted on my skin again. It’s probably not that, though.)
Your Ambre Precieux experience was very sad! That has happened to me also. I hope it was just not the right moment to wear Phi, even though I felt like it. I will wait a couple of days or weeks before I wear it again.
I told you March would get here! I’m sorry it will be busy, but just knowing spring is in the air, hopefully helps.
Spring is closer than ever, even though we are expecting the temperatures to drop again, and tomorrow we will have wintry mix. But at least the wait will not be too long! ????
Joining you with coffee and more coffee!☕️
Thirding the (very, very strong) coffee this morning.
We will survive!
I had that response to PHI recently, but enjoyed it again after the experience. Will also add that I think of it as a winter perfume, but last year I really enjoyed it in the spring & warmer weather.
I wear Phi only in winter. But I will definitely give it a try in springtime again. Who know and it works better then. I love this perfume a lot and I hope it was just a bad to day for it!
Coffee is the answer to almost every single life question ☕️☕️☕️
If coffee isn’t the answer, ???? is! You smell great and I’m predicting you will in Love all over again with PHI when the time is right.
And nothing better than coffee and cake together. Craving now! 😀
Having the sames hopes for Phi.
I hope that your perfume “Meh” was just a case of it being the wrong day for that scent.
I recently had exactly the same experience with that same perfume – and now I’m afraid to put it on again 🙂
Oh no! At least, I am not the only one here with that problem. Let’s hope that next time we try it we are in love with it again! ????
Apres L’Ondee again today. I think I’m going to go for that discounted tester bottle. I’m weak!
You smell fab. You’re not weak, you have an excellent nose. 😀
I like the way you think.
I can’t 100% promise anything but I might have a bottle of this that will be offered in the upcoming swapmeet…. (I was gonna mention it last time I saw you post about it but didn’t, but I figured since I’m seeing this again, well maybe it’s a sign?) 🙂
Well, I pulled the trigger on the tester before I saw this (I’m impatient). But I’ll be on the lookout for the swapmeet. I could never have too much ALO! Anything you desire that I might be able to find in my collection?
I can completely relate to the impatient thing! I’m glad it’s on its way to you – you’ve been wanting it for awhile and you’ll be able to enjoy it with full abandon soon. 🙂
Oh goodness! Go for it! I’ve gotten testers and they’ve been great????????
Done!
???????? I recently got a tester of chamade and it’s wonderful. Did you get anything else?
I’m wearing Ostara,
Nice! I was thinking it might be time for this one soon.
Oh, wonderful. I’ve been thinking of Ostara because the paperwhites are blooming in my neighbor’s garden. I can smell them when I walk by each day.
Really enjoying Serge week – it’s giving me a chance to try some of the many Lutens samples I’ve accumulated. Santal Majuscule was a big hit yesterday, but Vitriol d’Oeillet and Muscs Koublai Khan were just “eh,” largely because of how quickly they disappeared from my skin. SOTD Rahat Loukoum, which is also fading fast, and presents just a touch of a musty cardboard vibe behind its sweet almond. Oh well, money saved.
MKK disappears quickly? I am surprised!
I was too! I’m wondering if I’m actually anosmic to something in there.
I’ve not worn a lot of the heavier SLs but the lighter fare and florals are all incredibly short-lived on me.
MKK and RL have absolutely been reformulated, much to their detriment. Their lasting power is gone, along with their interesting, Lutensesque qualities.
As usual forgot about the rabbits.. Wearing Jo Malone Orange Bitters. Pretty nice on a sunny winter day 🙂
That’s one I’ve been curious about and assumed the “bitters” reference meant the beverage/cocktail additive? Or is it more of an orange blossom thing?
I think it refers to the additive, as you said. It opens with a woodsy/bitter orange note, and settles into a comfortable ambery warmth with some sandalwood and orange. There’s nothing floral about it.
I’m nasomatto black afghano today. It was 6 degrees Fahrenheit when I got on the bus to work this morning!
Brrr…oh my god..where are you?
Jackson Hole, WY!
Jackson Hole! ????
I love Jackson Hole. I was there years ago in May and there was still lots of snow on the mountains and plenty of people skiing.
6 degrees on March first is simply not acceptable!
Yuck to the cold temps but you must smell amazing. Black Afghanistan is a favorite. Stay warm.
Ugggh. Afgano.
You smell fantastic! Really been enjoying the brisk cold’s effect on Black Afghano the more I wear it this winter. They pierce each other.
Happy March! Fragrance free so far as I’m doing some testing at lunch. Trying to decide between buying Diptyque Eau de Sens and the new(ish) L’Artisan Historie d’Orangers. I will spray one on each wrist and see which makes me smile more. Has anyone tried both? Thoughts?
I have not tried the L’Artisan so do report back on your comparison!
The L’Artisan is my favorite of the two. The Diptyque is more bright and almost astringent (juicy?), while the L’A is a little softer. It reminds me of Hermes Neroli Dore in texture, but a little closer to the skin. Starts off green and then gradually softens. I wouldn’t turn down either, but I think I’ll stick to the soap version of Eau de Sens and buy the L’Artisan perfume.
Thank you so much nastywoman!
I’m drowning in MFK BR 540 – made a mess of things with the decanting last night and used all available skin to soak up the spill. Only vague hints of it left but I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts so that at least I can feel like I salvaged some. I also ended up making an extra 20ml decant in case anyone is in the market for some lovely overpriced indulgence at the most affordable you can get it! 🙂 (seriously, if interested, please see contact riddle on the splitmeet)
I’ve been doing SL all week too with Fleurs D’Oranger; I think it was Portia at PP (?) who posted something about orange blossom in winter — though I may have totally misremembered that — anyway I pulled it out about two weeks ago and have been spraying liberally every afternoon since. It’s been my go-to when I want to really have some scent after a morning of dabbing and sampling.
Drowning in BR540… sounds like a good way to go!
March! The crocuses are already poking out and my rose bush is growing new leaves already. Seems wrong.
I love that rabbit plate, though.
SOTD No 5 edt because it smells like spring.
Oh, and a confession is due. I made an impulse purchase last night. My uke lessons are in Williamsburg and I really need to put blinders on when I walk home. There’s a salon a few doors down that has a beauty section in the front with candles and perfumes. Got to test some Joya oils. Ended up buying a perfume oil from a botanical indie brand LVNEA. It’s called Nuit Desert and has notes of blood cedar, agarwood, jasmine. It’s woody, a bit smoky, with a beautiful rich natural jasmine swirling in the mix. And it was 50% off ???? So there’s my excuse(I think they’re not going to carry the line anymore. It’s based in Montreal and I’ve smelled some of her others and I think they’re well done naturals).
That sounds lovely! I’ve been really intrigued by perfume oils lately. Olivine Atelier are the only ones I’ve tried, but I’ve had my eye on many.
I have quite a few and really have grown to love them. They’re generally lower sillage which I prefer especially for work, they are generally smaller quantities than regular perfume, portable, and usually more affordable (like with Le Labo for example).
No confessions required for any scent 50% off. Official Donatell rule (that I just made up ????).
Ha! True. It cost what a dinner out would cost me and I didn’t eat out last night ????
Looks like they aren’t making so many now, but you can see some of the older designs here:
http://www.freshdesignblog.com/2015/08/forest-friends-dapper-animal-porcelain-plates/
Those are great! Wouldn’t mind a set, myself.
I’m playing along today in SL Fourreau Noir. The drydown is warm and nutty and slightly sweet – rather perfect for this cool, rainy morning.
SL Fleurs de Citronnier – love the combination of fresh and pretty lemon blossom with fabulously dirty (to my nose at least) musk.
Have not smelled it in ages — is yours new? I used to like it a lot and don’t know how much it has changed.
I tucked my daughter in last night and said, remember, the first thing we have to say tomorrow is rabbit rabbit rabbit. Instead, the first thing I heard at 530 am was ” what happened to the lights!”. Very loud scream. Jumped out of bed to find we had no power. Not sure why, seemed to be just half of my street. Fortunately it only lasted about 3 hours. It will be snowing soon with falling temps. Anyway, back in Mugler today with Aura. I’m so glad I do not get any menthol from it. I like the opening a lot.
Stay warm Lillyjo!
That’s quite a rude awakening! Glad it’s resolved. Your sweet tuck-in last night made me smile ????
Stay warm and safe…Mr. CM8 has to pick up the eldest three days earlier because where her college is located they are expecting a blizzard…15 inches of snow and wind gusts to 45mph…she will miss her class tonight but it is more important that they get home safe and sound (plus I will have two extra days with her 🙂 !)
We are also getting a bit of wintry mix…here’s hoping that spring arrives soon for both you and I !!!! Winter be gone!
Wow that’s way to much snow! Glad she’s coming home early. Enjoy the extra time!
Stay safe and warm!
Hope the weather gods are kind to you after your rough start this morning! BTW, I did get your email.
SOTD is Bruma. I started off the week with Serge Lutens and then lapsed for no particular reason because I probably have at least 16 to choose from. Hopefully, I will remember tomorrow.
Lapse all you like — you smell great!
For the first time ever, remembered to say rabbit, rabbit, rabbit. Had to go with Cuir Mauresque today, because it’s so cold and wet today, and I need something to warm me up.
Tomorrow I bring in my dog to have his tumor removed. I am very nervous. They will keep him overnight, but when he comes home he will have an open wound that I will be responsible for keeping clean and medicated, and I will have to keep an e-collar on him for about 6 weeks while his leg heals. He’s had an e-collar on before, for about a week, and he hated it (as most dogs do) and did a ton of damage knocking things over. I’m going to have to dog proof the home for his recovery period. On the other hand, I am extremely grateful that they will be able to spare his leg.
Twins! We smell great!
Best of luck to you and the pooch! I hope everything goes well and dressing changes aren’t too hard on you. Do you have anyone who can lend a hand by soothing the dog or possibly just to be there for you for moral support? Now’s the time to call in friends or family, especially if they have a medical background.
I hope the operation goes well. Good luck
Hope everything goes fine with your dog and he recovers soon!
We’ve gone through lots of procedures like this and the good/bad part is that they come home really doped up (that’s bad because my dogs tend to hate being drugged like that, but it’s obviously good since mostly they will sleep!). My biggest issues have often been just getting the dog into the house – hopefully you have help with that part, assuming he’s a bigger guy? Six weeks in an ecollar is awful. I admit to not being so diligent about using those – depending on the dog of course, and if I’m around nonstop to monitor. Good luck with everything! I think the worst part is not having them home when they’re actually in for the surgery. Best wishes that it all goes well for you both.
Well wishes to your dog.
Wishing all hoes well for the pup and you!
Best wishes for the pup…and you! I had a friend who did some research and found collars that were softer, easier for the dog to wear. Don’t remember what she got, but it may be worth researching.
Good luck to your dog for tomorrow, and best wishes for you jirish during the recovery!
I’m in SL Cuir Mauresque today. Loving it so much! Happy March, everyone! When I was in Alabama over the weekend, the daffodils and the hyacinths were coming up at my aunt’s house which gave me hope for spring!
Oh, that sounds perfectly lovely!
SotD = Eau des Merveilles
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! And it’s national pig day so oink, oink, oink!
Enjoying my dear friend EdM with a rogue grapefruit-y note on my sweater cuffs. I blame Jour d’Hermes worn last Saturday. Surprising as I spray my arms then let the perfume dry before wearing clothes with long sleeves.
The Thursday To-Do List calls, time to get a move on. Have a ferociously fragrant day!
Yes to Hermès!
Gucci Guilty Black today, because my alarm clock didn’t go off (I may or may not have forgotten to turn it on), and Gucci’s easy. . .
On the plus side, the extra sleep allowed me to have a fabulous dream in which I was chatting with David Bowie, so it all evens out 🙂
…and what did David Bowie have to say?
Right? I wanna know how he is doing!
He was a bit disappointed that my favorite songs of his were all very mainstream, until I mentioned that I really liked “Please Mr. Gravedigger” and “The Laughing Gnome”.
Who knows what that’s supposed to mean. . . O.o
Have you ever seen the episode of The Flight of the Conchords where Bret is visited by David Bowie in his dreams. It’s funny.
Ha! Yes!
I applied the beautiful but fleeting DSH Cafe Noir this AM. So fleeting that sadly I can no longer smell it. I am decanting Violette Sacree into a glass to create splits (the sprayer is intent on sending the juice everywhere BUT the vials–the angels are greedy even with this method) and my home office smells like violets and rain on this wet, grey day.
I agree that Cafe Noir is very fleeting. A shame because it is a great coffee scent. I think I will transfer the juice of my mini into a small decant and see if by spraying on it instead of dabbing it makes at least a slight difference.
My husband bought me some tiny funnels with a very narrow stem but deep and wide cone. I used them to do my decants this time around and it worked beautifully with very little product loss. Another upside: in the past, I’ve ended up with perfume dripping down my arms and overdosing on whatever I was decanting, not wanting to wear said perfume ever again ;(
He got them at a local Japanese import shop, but if you happen to see something like that, it’s worth a try. I’ve had some decanting disasters and feel like I’m finally becoming more of a pro after lots of trial and error 😉
They are similar to this, but with a longer, narrower stem:
https://www.amazon.com/Piping-Rock-Small-Plastic-Funnel/dp/B015RYCHUO/ref=sr_1_30_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1519927701&sr=8-30&keywords=perfume+funnel
I bought a stainless steel one which worked pretty well and could soak it and reuse it. Just not sure I know where I put it, lol.
I took a break this morning from Uncle Serge due to a dentist appointment. Went instead with Caron Pour un Homme for the benefit of some relaxing lavender. My dentist has done her best to make her office almost spa like and all of the staff are super friendly. Once when I was chilly, they brought me a heated blanket. But still. It IS the dentist after all. I think I still have some ptsd from last fall’s filling and then subsequent root canal. Today’s visit was two thumbs up though. ???? Okay, I’m done whining now.
On a happier note, the wintery mix we were supposed to get completely missed us! Ha! Our streets are dry as a bone. It went south of us and I think it’s headed toward Lillyjo.
Oh man, I just looked and fragrancenet is practically giving this stuff away!
You’re definitely not alone! I don’t know anyone except my mom who enjoys going to the dentist, and it’s only because she has freaky perfect teeth and gums.
Freaky perfect, lol!
My routine at the dentist is to get a blanket, headphones and the remote right off the bat. Then I chill and watch TV while they’re grinding and scraping. I can block out most of what’s going on even though it’s still fairly unpleasant. I used to get major dentist anxiety and blocking out the noise really helps. I also ask them to adjust my seat when I don’t need to be tipped back as that position makes me feel upside-down and dizzy. If only they could reduce the cost, then my dentist-related financial anxiety would abate as well… Oh, and stop using dental dams. Torture devices! Glad your appointment went well, though!
Thanks! Yes, dental dams, they make me feel claustrophobic!
Glad it missed you! And yes it was heading my way, but the news just said it’s veering south east of me now. So being spared the worst of it, thank goodness.
Oh good! Our weather people totally overhyped and messed up this forecast.
I love your SOTD..lavender and vanilla..yes, please!
I still get sweaty palms over the filling replacement, root canal and crown ordeal last December. I read a blurb about weighted blankets being good for sleep…wondering if I should ask for the dentist to put the heavy x-ray blanket on me and see if it helps calm me… like those thunder shirts for dogs….????????
Oh, it totally helps me. When my children were young we used weighted blankets and vests to help calm them ( it was part of sensory therapy for them) my daughter still sleeps with heavy blankets, my son no longer needs one.
Good news for you about both the dentist appt and your weather.
Mmmmmmm. Great choice! The lavender in Pour un Homme is absolute perfection.
My dentist’s office is like yours, they go overboard to keep things very calm and easy, which I appreciate! Love those heated blankets.
Finally getting with the program today with Daim Blonde. Sheesh, took me forever to hop aboard the train and I have plenty of SL scents to choose from. I spritzed on my belly because for some reason this one just gets HUGE on me, which is why it may be going in the next swap or freebie meet.
I didn’t remember rabbit, rabbit, rabbit either.
I’m such a loser. ????
Also, a big thanks for everyone who sent good vibes to T-Rex. She caught them all with open paws and is almost 100% now. ????
Yay T-Rex!
So glad T-Rex is almost 100%!
I’ve gotten into the habit of spraying some of my big scents on my stomach too. I’m sure it’s a tip I read about on nst.
And just for the record, nurses are not losers, they are rock stars!????
Hurray for T Rex and you smell TERRIFIC!
Yay for healing!
You don’t have to say rabbit rabbit rabbit first thing in the morning, right? Winning!
yay for T-rex!
I am glad that T-Rex is better….it’s so hard when our babies suffer.
I have to tell you that Sam Adams has a limited edition Orange Blossom beer and it is fragrant and delicious…..you deserve one after the difficult days you have been through.
And I second madtowngirl in her sentiment that nurses rock….there will be two in my family soon enough 🙂
Uh oh, that Sam Adams beer sounds fantastic! ????
It is!! it is!!!
and I am NOT going to confess about all the sugar I ate today…..coconut macaroons, chocolate covered matzoh, cappuccino tea biscuits….I was a bad girl-LOL!
Hurray for T-Rex feeling MUCH better! ???? ????
Rabbit rabbit rabbit!
Enjoying Bois et Fruits. My favorite of the Bois line are Bois Oriental and Bois de Violette, but this runs a close third. Perhaps I will spring for a bell jar one day.
I haven’t tried that one. I love Bois de Violette and meant to wear it today, but I couldn’t find it! Time for a bit of reorganising.
Oops – that should say “Bois bell jar” up there.
Bois de Violette is probably my favorite – I never get around to buying it because it’s NEVER discounted, and something else I want always is . . .
I have no idea what to wear this morning but I just spilled coffee all over my shirt (long night, no sleep, apparently someone moved the usual location of my mouth) so thinking maybe some Avignon to shoo away the nasty little demon tailing me since yesterday. That’ll go with coffee-stain, right? Ugh, is it March already…
I hope coffee helps, your day improves and you have a better night tonight! ????
Thank you! Clearly I should have said “rabbit rabbit rabbit” YESTERDAY morning. 🙂
Ugh. I have done this! I hope your day get progressively better!
The way you told your tale made me lol. Sometimes you just gotta laugh???? hoping for an improved day for you.
Humorous perspective might be the only thing getting us to each successive week sometimes, methinks. 🙂
I hope some coffee makes it into your mouth! Chin up!
I think missing your mouth is a sign of genius (so I like to tell myself). Hoping the Avignon missed your mouth, too ????
Bleah! I hope your day improves. ☕
I am wearing Guerlain Idylle (body lotion and perfume)
today, after a workout and shower.
The body lotion has very tiny sparkles in it, so I am “sparkly” right now 🙂
There is something very nice about a sparkly lotion, I must say! Especially in the summer!
You smell lovely and springy!
Saving my last SL for tomorrow so SOTD is ELdO’s Like This, for the fizzy tangerine and ginger up front.
This is one my try list. Just rewatched Moonrise Kingdom this past weekend. Love, LOVE that movie.
Yesssss, Moonrise Kingdom!
I loved that movie, too! Took me a sec to realize that wasn’t a non sequitur and that TS was that wacky social worker!
Haha, yes, I love all the characters in that movie. Every time I catch something new. This time I was cracking up at how Bill Murray called the campers “beige lunatics.” ????
I’ve noticed that I find it hard to settle on a perfume now that the mornings are so dark and I can’t see what the weather is like…even though I have been outside and know it is overcast and calm and not too cold. So , this is one of life’s mysteries …why I need to see the day in order to perfume it. Similarly, i often find myself turning up the volume on foreign films even though I can’t understand the volume. Why is that? So…Bapteme du Feu for a pitch dark, silent morning .
Can’t understand the language, I mean.
Ha! I had a Spanish speaking patient yesterday, and while I was waiting for the interpreter to arrive, I was communicating via gestures (basically looked like I was having a seizure!) and adding an “O” at the end of everything; medicino, emergencio, etc etc. I’m sure he thought I was a raving lunatic- thank god for interpreters! Mio dumbo Americano ????
Ha! I do that, too. I think it’s because I want to hear the inflection and tone even if I don’t understand what they’re saying.
Yes, I think that is it.
Daylight in the morning does something good for the brain. In winter I sometimes choose perfume at night for the next day, especially if I’m setting out my work clothes for the next morning. Though overnight I often change my mind about the perfume choice.
I watched Jiro Dreams of Sushi repeatedly for the beautiful visuals and music. I had the sound turned up loud and started to think I could understand some of the Japanese words. Probably not, though. 🙂
OMG, I do that, too, and I think it’s so ridiculous, but for some reason I have to be able to hear the words, even though I don’t understand them.
Exactly. Sometimes (with films, television in English) I find I it hard to listen and watch at the same time…so I use subtitles because I can read and watch more easily. Odd. I love how sight and sound work…and also why I close my eyes to sniff (sometimes). And I just cannot read or write whilst listening to music. And yet if someone is speaking to me I often find myself staring at them, like I’m searching out the words….maybe I am just under-developed.
A reminder: The Oscars are this Sunday, and please DON’T see Peter Rabbit.
Am in Fresh Cream, which seemed a nice, light way to start March!
OH- I will in LA later on this month and will be making a pilgramige to LuckyScent. Any of youse SoCal peeps wanna join?
???? You are cracking me up with this Peter Rabbit thing. People use lol all the time, but I did just lit-er-al-ly laugh when I saw this post.
😀 I just thought it would be good to remind people with the ‘rabbit, rabbit, rabbit”
Girl, I’m still mad. Gimme back my money!
I have two words for you: 1. Chocolate 2. Trolls
You’ll thank me later.????
Did you see Phantom Thread?
I was both repulsed and turned on by Daniel Day Lewis…
DDL reminds me of my favorite uncle, so I’m repulsed by myself that I’m turned on by him. (DDL I mean, just wanted to clarify!)
Hahaha!
HAHAHA!
He was amazing in PT, I went with a bunch of girlfriends and we could not stop talking about DDL all the way home..his allure, the clothes, his long dark gray hair…we went on and on..
Ede, did you see Phantom Thread?
I think anyone who is a Daniel Day Lewis fan owes it to himself to see him on the big screen one last time..
Oh yes- and I have seen ALL his movies. He wefts and warps into a character and is simply amazing.
After watching him on the big screen I am pretty sure I was in “danger” of creating a third child that night with Mr. Ltsg
He was outstanding in My Left Foot. I mean, I had a friend with CP and he was spot on. Not what is considered sexy, but to me, his ability to morph like this is right up there with any superhero powers.
I need to see that. DDL has a physical beauty that is quite stunning. I was first struck in Unbearable Lightness and then in Mohicans. Yowza.
Mohicans, my god… if only I had seen that movie before I decided to find jerky guys attractive ????
+1 for DDL in Mohicans!
“I will find you! No matter how long it takes, no matter how far. I will find you!”
Still gives me chills.
Yes! One of the best movie lines ever!
Now I have to see it…
I did see PT and this feeling is accurate!
Sorry you got stuck seeing a heinous movie, but your rants about it have been really funny!
Haven’t seen the movie but ate him two nights ago in a big stew.
Hiram Green Moon Bloom sample. I have a couple of SL samples but none of them fit the day.
Yum.
MMK, is this all tuberose or do you get jasmine? I have long had it on my radar and have yet to try it.
I’m not great at picking out different white flowers but my impression was mostly tuberose.
Wearing Eau Mage today. Eating some delicious chocolate hamantaschen with my coffee, my lovely coworker brought some in today for me.
Oh, yum! Happy Purim! Was just telling a coworker how when I was a kid, all the other kids who were more aggressive than I was would grab all the good flavors and all that would be left we’re the prune and poppyseed by the time I got to them (though I learned to like the poppyseed). Chocolate or Nutella ones are The Best.
I’m strange. I’d go for the prune….
I’d eat them now, but in 4th grade they were not the winners.
LOL. Yeah. Not so much then.
I also love the prune 🙂
I went wackadoodle today and bought Leiber Coconut Macaroons, Streit Chocolate Covered Matzoh and Kedem Orange, Cappuccino and Chocolate Tea Biscuits…I have been enjoying them all….tomorrow our dinner will be Streit’s Potato Pancakes 🙂
Yesterday I posted a link to 19th century photos of traditional Russian costumes, and Jiji wondered what they would look like in color. Apparently these costumes still exist in museums and private collections, and there are many photos on Pinterest, such as those in the following search:
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/386042999284640786
(I apologize in advance if the link doesn’t work. I don’t have an account on Pinterest and don’t know how to work with it. They are fairly easy to find via Google image searches. I ended up searching specifically for Russian State Museum costumes to get more of the historic ones.)
Here are the ones in the Hermitage:
https://www.hermitagemuseum.org/wps/portal/hermitage/search-results#search=folk%20costumes&tab=WOA
Oooo the colours are gorgeous!????
Thanks for the links, nozknoz. ????????
Thanks for the quest, Jiji!
Wow, those color photos are stunning! Thanks for the links.
Month of Irises is over. I loved it but I’m now happy to wear my OTHER fragrances that are not iris. Today in Jul et Mad Fugit Amor.
I have the same feeling. Love runs strong for iris, and now it’s time to let the other perfumes come out to play.
My sotd is Ormonde Woman!
you smell great!
I was looking at some for some spring shoes online at Nordstroms and was wondering…what would Jiji pick, since you have impeccable taste from the little you shared with us on NST. I am still lemming those bow booties
????oh thats so nice to hear!
I havent looked at spring shoes/clothing that much yet, its still freezing ❄️ here and I find it hard to imagine spring weather and spring clothing.
I also try to buy most of my clothing in Sale.
My shoe collection is not very exciting actually, mostly black suede (black suede pumps, black suede loafers, black suede overknee boots and yeah those black suede bow booties are the latest addition haha).
But for spring I could use some white or grey leather sneakers!
So if you spot a nice pair let me know ????
We are having some mild weather, I am getting spring fever even though we are not completely done with winter.
I will look at some sneakers and report back!
Late to the party and wearing Feminite du Bois today from Serge Lutens. The Shiseido version arrived yesterday and I didn’t spray it on. I don’t waste vintage for work. Vintage is for days off.
wow..where did you find a bottle?
I found it on EBay. It usually is uber expensive on ebay and for once I got lucky.
I have a tiny bit of this original somewhere too, along with a FB of the SL version. To me, the SL version is so similar to Bois et Fruits that I probably should pare one of them from the collection. I too have the Shiseido version hidden away (I think it’s with my Nombre Noir which I keep only for the sake of having it, which is a pretty flimsy reason now that I’ve said it out loud).
Just put on several sprays of De Profundis. I am home today and can please myself!
Best way 🙂
????????????
I put on some of Aliage this morning because I need to go to the gym and thought “the first sports fragrance” might motivate me… It hasn’t yet
The oakmoss is so strong it almost smells insence-y to me – so the sports scent has a bit of a church vibe to me
Since then I’ve decanted some corn or flour, Carnal Flower, thank you – so clearly I smell like that now. I’m pretty stuffed up – but I can smell it – it’s potent and smooth and tropical without smelling like a mixed drink or suntan lotion – I love it!
(I also like mixed drinks and suntan lotion – but I like mixing it up)
Aliage. I did once love it with a passion. Cuts through humidity like nothing else.
hmmmm, I’ll have to remember to try it in humid weather!
Lol at corn or flour.
I don’t think I’ve ever tried Aliage, but I really should.
Strong oakmoss, you say? Hmmmmm… will have to check this out!
its at most Estee Lauder counters, but you might have to ask for it – since it’s a weirdo 70’s scent 🙂
I’m testing Tom Ford London, and I haven’t made up my mind about it yet. There are segments that I like very much. I finally realized that one of the things that bothered me was something my nose interprets as a caraway note. Also maybe ends up too sweet. But London kind of intriguing and doesn’t annoy me in the usual ways that Tom Fords do. We’ll see how it goes today.
BTW, I passed by a woman whose sillage smelled great recently and asked what she was wearing. It was TF Santal Blush. The buttery note would annoy the heck out of me if I wore it, but the perfume worked really well on her in passing. Nose-catching! Which I tend to forget as one of the major functions of perfume, LOL.
Is it???
????
SOTD is SL Nuit de Cellophane. Nice osmanthus for a pretty spring day here in Houston.
I so wanted to love this one, but it went soapy on me fairly quickly. Most SL forals are wonderful on my skin but this one didn’t cooperate. I bet you have smelled gorgeous today though!
I need to paw through samples for tomorrow…I’m sure there’s a Lutens in there somewhere.
Today is Pamplemousse Rose, simply because my husband has a wee dram left in a big bottle, and I want to free up the space in the cabinet. And also…it’s fresh and clean. Win win.
I love Pamplemousse Rose but it is so fleeting I couldn’t justify a bottle. On the plus side, though, if you top up regularly through the day you can use it up faster and free up that spot 😉
Today’s Serge-Of-The-Day is Chergui. Mmm.
Locating my stash of SL samples last night was a bit of a challenge, but I eventually found them. Whew! I’m all ready for tomorrow…
Hey, when is opening day? I’m so excited for it. I gotta get my tv fixed. And I’m really hoping you’re my fellow baseball fan LOL ???? it’s been awhile…
Yep, it’s me. ???? Opening Day is Thursday the 29th—just 4 weeks from today!! And it’s all 30 teams. Yay!
Woohoo! Diamondbacks, right? Did you guys keep JD?
Yes, D-backs. Alas, “Just Dingers” (????) accepted a 5-year $110m deal from the Red Sox.???? (I admit I’ve rather lost track, too. So, I’m guessing you might be a Tigers fan, then?)
Yes, that’s my team. Traded away just about everyone, but still have Miggy.. Gonna have to learn a lot of new names this season.
I’m in samples of Nicolai stuff on top of samples of Nicolai stuff – a lovely NST’er is patiently waiting for me to make up my mind whether I will buy the Eau Fraiche set so she can take the eau d’ete (eau chic could also be taken is someone wanted that…) or not and I need to decide! The weather is just totally wrong for trying hot weather type fragrances – stormy and raining. So I’ve just put on some Sacrebleu. It’s lovely. Hoping to read more reviews about Cap Neroli – I saw one on Cafleurebon, but since the reviewer pretty much loves all the Nicolai fragrances I’m not sure what to make of them.
I’m also not a fan of the tiny font and all those pictures (though I’m sure others may really love that aspect of the blog)- not as reader friendly as NST, for sure!
Finally making time to comment this week! Being busy at work has made it hard for me, but today things have calmed down some. I finished out iris month on Tues and Wed with Le Cri de la Lumiere and L’Attesa. Le Cri is lovely, classy and easy to wear. I think it could be mistaken for a Chanel. And L’Attesa is one of my favorite iris perfumes.
Today I’m wearing SL L’eau Froide, my most recent full bottle purchase. I will caution everyone about buying SL testers – they are highly likely to leak in transit since the testers come with the sprayers already attached. FragranceNet at least put the perfume bottle in a plastic baggie inside the tester box so it didn’t make a mess everywhere. But I still wish I’d paid a little more for the regular bottle
Thanks for the heads up about the SL testers!
Le Cri could be Misia’s more intelligent cousin.
Yes!
It’s back to hot and humid here so no Uncle Sege for me today. Wearing Jo Malone’s Blackberry & Bay to the office instead.
*Uncle Serge LOL
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! ???? ???? ???? I think I might have said this twice at oh dark early this morning, so if someone forgot the rabbits, I summoned them for you. That’s what can happen when one is in a semi-conscious haze.
Back to clouds today, and waiting for the rain. Not sure if I will see any snow or if it will be wintry mix… forecast seems to be evolving throughout the day. It all still sounds like “Yick” to me.
SOTD = SL Al A Nuit. Not much left in this sample, so I’ve been enjoying it. Maybe when it’s finished I’ll get a decant of it.
A la Nuit is so fleeting on me. I wish it could last longer, because I really like it, but once my large decant is gone I will not replace it.
Stay warm and dry tomorrow. It looks like my commuting is going to be tough????
I’m not planning on any errands for tomorrow at all! Whatever it is, it can wait until Saturday. Although I have heard that the wind is going to be nasty for a sizable chunk of the weekend, too. ????
I said it last night when I caught a glimpse of my calendar as I was going to bed—which probably doesn’t count. Poor rabbits, I’m just too much of a zombie when I wake up to ever remember them! ☺️
I think this one will be my choice for tomorrow. It’s perhaps my favorite jasmine of all time (which is saying a lot eh?). I hardly ever wear it though!! Very silly of me.
Tsk tsk I did not do the rabbit thing!
SOTD = No.19 EDP
I need spine strengthening for the whole month of March as it will be one crazy ride.
The answer to the Survey question Episode one – what is Buffalo Meatloaf ? I thoght it was meatloaf made with ground buffalo meat but it was actually regular neatloaf with buffalo sauce.. needless to say, due to perceived spiciness, I refused a free sluce.
I got an enail from eBates telling me that I am getting 20% cash back from my putchases. Woo hoo!
ha! so you DID get the 20 percent off on the Jo Malones..woo hoo!!!!
What? I don’t understand your question? ????
😉
I’ve eaten buffalo (aka bison) burgers fairly often and found them to be rather tasty, so meatloaf made with that wouldn’t phase me at all. The buffalo sauce is a whole ‘nother thing, though… Nope!
Good luck for the rest of March! ???? ☘
Thank you. I may have eaten a buffalo burger once. I think Trader Joe’s sells them.
They do.
I tried bison too, and thought it very good. It healthy too, as it’s naturally lean.
Lean and mean -are bisons mean?
Butting in to say “YES!!!” One uncle of mine had a beefalo, which is a cow-bison hybrid. You couldn’t even walk near that thing’s pen without it charging at you! And it was only half bison. Imagine what a full-blooded one would be like.
Well, they’re wild animals. If you annoy them, they’re gonna skewer you. Google Yellowstone bison plus dumb people and then watch. They’re not “mean.” They’re just wild animals that don’t like being harassed.
