Hey, it is indeed Monday again. Plus, Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing L'Artisan Parfumeur Jacinthe des Bois.
Reminder: on 2/2, we're doing Groundhog Day...assemble some winter- and spring-appropriate samples in a bowl, pick one at random, then tell us if spring will be early or late this year.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Dreary rainy day here in Virginia- I’m wearing the gorgeous VP Rozy and it’s cheering me up nicely. Hope everyone had a good weekend!
Looks like we’re having about the same weather, and possibly expecting snow tomorrow. I may do spring fragrances all week.
Yeah, my snow is heading your way. Sorry:(
It’s a glorious day in San Diego, 25C and brilliant sun. I’ll fax you some.
Oh please do!
Yeah, it’s pretty gloomy in SW VA too. Probably the ugliest time of year.
Same in south east England too.
I wish I could send you some NM sunshine!
I would happily take some of that sunshine where I am at! I miss the winter sunshine of the Front Range.
I am wearing Estee Lauder Private Collection and drinking a cup of Shalimar tea.
How do you like Shalimar tea? I also have that one
Very smooth and delicious. I also bought one from Guerlain named Paris Caprice that I love just as much. Maybe even a little more.
I found it to be very light, but good.
French Breakfast by MF has similar vanilla/citrus qualities if you want to give that one a try too
Have you tried the MF Paris Breakfast? It’s wonderful, vanilla and brioche flavors.
Both of those sound good. I’ll have to try them
Yes I have tried Paris Breakfast too!
You smell lovely!
I adore Private Collection, you smell gorgeous!
I do too! I have been wearing it off and on since the 80s.
???? Funny that is National Bubble Wrap Day as I just finished packing my boxes for the freebiemeet with some left over for popping!!????
Etro Man Rose is the SOTD. Have a fragrant week!
You were prompt!
Have you run across that new kind of bubble wrap that doesn’t pop? So frustrating.
No! And I hope I never do. ????
I hate the idea of it.
What?? I had not even heard of it.
That seems like horrible bubble wrap. I’m a little curious now.
Whaaat? Bubble wrap that does not pop???
What kind of monster put that product into development?
Here is the monster: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/07/02/new-bubble-wrap_n_7711274.html
How cruel! ????
Yes. I have run across the un-poppable bubble wrap. Whoever produced this took all of the fun out !!
Yes, I’ve gotten some of that in packages. I don’t like it because it’s stiff, since there are linear channels that, rather than independent cells.
I also read that the original bubble wrap company will be phasing out pop-able bubble wrap. ???? I’m doing a bit of hoarding.
Yes, I have encountered the un-poppable bubble wrap. Sephora uses it in their packages/parcels.
You know who appreciates bubble wrap? MY CAT.
I am wearing Paestum Rose today. And so looking forward to the Friday project – what a great idea! I would basically be for as many fortune-telling-by-random-sample projects as we can think of. Anybody else ever try to figure out how their day’s going to be by hitting random shuffle on their music? I just did this and got Sufjan Stevens’ “Detroit, lift up your weary head!” which feels pretty appropriate for this Monday.
It was a great idea if everyone says spring is coming soon, otherwise, maybe not so much
You smell fantastic!
<3 Sufjan Stevens!
My cats enjoy bubble wrap as a snack. I put it in a drawer and one figured out how to open the drawer. Now there’s a step stool planted in front of the drawer. Hasn’t figured out how to get around that obstacle. Yet.
Can we alter the project to foretell who will win the Superbowl? Better yet, the US government is crowdsourcing predictions on all sorts of things–usually with prize monies attached for successful methods!
All I want to foretell is how soon the Superbowl will be out of my city so I can have my normal bus route back >:(
Is the Superbowl coming up?
My cat also used to really dig sitting on bubble wrap. No idea.
Using bubble wrap as I type this to wrap up samples from the freebie meet to ship out today
I picked Cruel Gardenia..maybe a spring early but will come some vengeance !
Breakfast by my FIL, Daal, chai tea and Deva Premal music
Lovely morning! ????
I hope you have a lovely morning too Deva
You smell great!
I am not fond of Gardenia but something about this one does not induce a headache
I wanted a licorice or anise scent today, so I sprayed Etro Anice first. Lovely straight up anise, but gone in an hour or two. So currently I am wearing Mancera Aoud Black Candy. Not much licorice here (I mostly get sweet aoud), but still nice.
You need Kerosene Black Vines!
Yes, I probably do. One day I’ll have to splurge on a bunch of samples of US indie houses.
I would also recommend 1000 Flowers REglisse Noire.
The only black licorice I have is Rglisse Noir, and I have the same problem with it–gone in a few hours, unless I spray liberally on clothing.
ack–Reglisse Noire. My ipad keyboard has died, and I’m not very good at typing on the screen. Can’t wait for the replacement to arrive!
Reglisse Noire sounds delicious!
It’s my Friday- woohoo! SOTD is Tauer Amber Flush Body Oil. Halfway through bottle #2!!
Happy Monday All-
Spray abundantly, drink plenty of coffee (or tea!), and lets get ‘er done! ????????
That’s the spirit!
You smell great! I have drained 2 bottles of the Amber Flush and Rose Delight so far. They are so good and addicting. I have a back up of each, but I will not open them until I give some use to the other body oils I have.
yee haa! You smell great Deva!
That oil gets a lot of love here, I gotta get my hands on some!
Perfumes de Nicolai’s Rose Royal today. I really like her cashmere extreme so I took a chance on this one. And small er bottle is reasonably priced. I want to love it like I do Rose Ikebana but it is just ok for me. Not a scrubber, I just can’t catch on to it.
I did not fall in love with it either, although I loved her Balkis back when she still made that.
In general, I think her perfumes have become less playful?
I have only the two so not much to compare to. I would ask about Balkis but if it is not made anymore that is not going to be available…
It was a raspberry rose with iris — sweet and sparkling and fun, although I liked the Balkis Light better because it was a little less sweet. She had a lot of what I considered extremely well made but light hearted scents — Eau d’Ete, Eau Exotique, Eau de Chateau, Kiss Me Tender, Balle de Match, Eau a la Folie, etc.
Now everything she does strikes me as serious. Maybe it’s just me.
Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day – so appropriate to the day after Freebie Weekend! I’m in Gucci EDP, my old friend in the heavy clear bottle.
You smell fantastic! ????
Wearing AC Santal Carmin today from a sample. I wonder if i’d like it better on a vanilla or musk base.
I am feeling a bit weary. Maybe it’s the mid-winter blues (a.k.a SAD). Looking for sun-drenched places to escape to, but that’s only going to be in april or early june. I wonder if I should get a light lamp of some sort.
I’ve been debating getting a sun lamp for years. The good ones seem like an investment, and spring arrives before my research ceases.
Are you able to get to a dry sauna? Sitting in 90+ degrees for 10 or 15 minutes really helps me!
That’s interesting! I think I need to seek a dry sauna out.
that’s a great idea! I really enjoyed it the last time i was in one. I will also seek one out.
I splurged on a “Verilux HappyLight Liberty 10,000 LUX” last year (about $89) and it really helps, and agree with Coin-op, have taken up regular sauna use lately and it really helps too.
I am so glad both the lamp and the sauna work for you! I went ahead and ordered a similar model lamp.
Oh good. It’s not like an instant miracle, but doing 10 minutes every morning really makes a difference if you keep at it.
My bf has really good health insurance and he was able to get a sun lamp covered by his insurance. Maybe if you’re lucky that’s something you could look into?
Going to my local botanical garden’s indoor glasshouse always does the trick for me
My health insurance is meh so I doubt it, but I got one anyway as written above. Fingers crossed it works.
It is not quiiite the same as being in a lovely glasshouse, but it’s sunny outside today and I am considering popping into the gigantic mall nearby – its top floor is white and light-filled in good weather
I know it’s bad for you and completely passé now, but back in the cold dark days of winter I used to go to the tanning salon to get the bone-warming heat and UV rays. A sauna with a happy light in it would be perfect!
In Jubilation 25 thanks to the so generous Flopper! I finally finished organizing my perfume cabinet this past weekend and I was able to bring this beauty and so many others to the front. I need to wear my samples and decants at least twice a week, since they have been neglected.
Drinking my second cup of coffee and feeling relieved that January is almost gone. Spring is getting closer. Have a great Monday everyone!
Yes, and it’s getting lighter everyday, hurrah! And yay to using samples, it takes some discipline!
That’s one of the best part of it! ????☀️????????
Congrats on getting your organizing done. I should do the same… mostly separating perfume into cold weather and warm weather categories.
Also, hurray for more daylight!
It took time and lots of patience. At least I was able to put aside perfumes that do not get much love from me anymore and bring to the front the ones that I love and like. It was not an easy task, but I am glad with the result.
You smell great, scent twin! I just finished my sample of this beauty today.
Hi twin! Jubilation 25 is indeed beautiful and very high on my fb shopping list. For now my decant is giving me great happiness.
I’m wearing Mugler’s Miroir des Voluptes. I’m not a great fan of either Angel or Alien, but I love both of the Miroir, Miroir scents that I have.
I’ve always been tempted by this one. Can you describe it?
It is very floral when it goes on, and quite sweet. Just when you might think it too sweet, you notice the tobacco note. In the drydown, I’m getting more patchouli and sandalwood. It shows a definite progression of notes, and is very interesting because of the changes.
I didn’t realize there was a tobacco note. It sounds pretty nice!
Wearing the last of my sample of Guerlain’s Ambre Eternal, which smells more like leather than amber to me.
Cuir Eternal? That would work.
I’m wearing Néroli Outrenoir today. Such a fan of this one. The neroli/&other citruses and strong tea note work so well together. And it lasts all day! And, if you drop I glass decant on your bathroom tiled floor it will last all month! Glad to have a small backup.
I am a fan as well of Neroli Outrenoir, I love the tea note! I should add that one to my basket for the community project.
Now to get someone to host a split!
Post shower I will spray this one
Smelling my wrists, yes this is a good one!
It does last and last. Like you I hope to see it on the split meet
Well, that’s a positive spin on smashed decants! (Sorry it’s all gone.)
yes, way to see the decant as half full glad you dropped something lovely smelling!
Neroli Outrenoir is such a nice scent!
You smell absolutely heavenly! I truly adore NO. When it originally was released, it came in the dreaded bulb atomizer format which really made decanting impossible. I wonder if it is available in the new format yet?
It’s available in the new non-bulb atomizer format. I got mine in September.
Spending the morning in vintage Bal because I love it so. Managed to talk a seller down on a partially filled bottle of Deneuve. There were only about 15 ml left in the bottle and it wasn’t exactly worth $40. So $20 and free shipping and I was sold. Since Deneuve doesn’t really jive with cold temps, I will wear it when the weather gets warm and stays warm. After my shower, I will get my Jubilation 25 out and wear that or maybe Beloved will work better.
I’m doing an informal poll – if you HAD to compare Jubilation 25 to another perfume what would it be? Same with Beloved?
I would say that Jubilation might be closer to Mitsouko, Diorella or Rochas Femme.
thanks Dawn, that is helpful!
I can’t speak to Jub25, but I am a practically connoisseur (ahem, addict) of rose-violet scents, so I can compare Beloved to others.
Beloved is a powdery, rose-violet. It is less sweet (less ambery?) than Guet-Apens/Attrape Coeur. Lipstick Rose is also powdery, but it is more wispy than Beloved, which feels full-bodied in an intentionally vintage sort of way. SSS Nostalgie is also a vintage-inspired rose, but has a lot more quirky pretty/ugly aspects to it, mostly from a hit of Narcissus in the top notes. However, both have a buzz like aldehydes in the top notes.
A more full-bodied lipstick rose sounds very intriguing… Thank you for these comments Marjorie Rose
It is very pretty! It was a rare blind-buy for me, and thankfully with no regrets!
Kind of regretting not blind buying it at Christmas when there were such great deals going on – I’ll keep an eye out for it though
I would sample it (them) first. Especially Jubilation since it’s a bit polarizing with its sweaty/BO thing.
Beloved is easier to like IMO if you like sweet, vintage-y florals. Though I’ve never registered the rose-violet accord. The chamomile is definitely prominent to me, and the immortele, and maybe ylang? It smells more golden-hued to me. But YMMV, of course.
I find it has similarities with 31 Rue Cambon.
Thank you Luna Green
Rose violet? Make sure to try Guerlain French Kiss
I have some vintage Bal, but it is neglected. Need to give it some love. ❤️
Seville a l’aube today. A somewhat random selection but I haven’t worn it in a while so all good. I have a travel spray from a set and part of me wants a bottle but the other part says “you have too many bottles”!
I feel like I also haven’t worn that one in a while, so I need to pull out my bottle soon.
I hear those voices, too! Ugh, they are so sensible >.<
That’s a good suggestion for my “spring samples” for Friday. Thanks!
Heure Exquise eau de parfum. I needed something beautiful today.
You do smell beautiful! I have some of this, and I find myself not putting it on in the AM because of the name – got to stop that!
It really is one of the most beautiful perfumes around.
You smell ‘Exquise’
You smell fantastic. One of my favorite iris perfumes!
Bubble wrap is soooooo satisfying to pop……Do we ever outgrow it? I never have…. Agree that the new stuff that doesn’t pop is a real bummer!
Wearing ELdO Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Agrumes (say that 3 times fast). Love this stuff!
Yay for bubble wrap popping, I never outgrew it either.
And you smell great!
I doubt my ability to say that once, much less 3 times!
You’re smelling great today! And the name is a serious tongue twister.
SOTD Jour d’Hermes parfum
To me it smells like a freshly cut mango, and that is all – but I love mango, so it’s great. I also put huile prodigieuse on my face, so I smell quite tropical today – spring is coming!
Glad you are enjoying Jour d’hermes. The floral note was too much for me but glad you are enjoying it with that beautiful oil. I meant to pick up one of those when I was in Paris last summer…
I actually found huile prodigieuse in Target, not sure if they still carry it but they were trying out a lot of different brands in the beauty dept.
My husband can smell the florals but I can’t – I think he might have a more refinded nose than me – annoying
Whaaaaat, I have never gotten mango in JdH. JdH just smells meh generic floral powder blah on me. I’m jealous!
It is the parfum – I’m happy to send you some if you want to see if that makes any difference
Oh, that’s terribly nice of you–I’d love to try it! Would you mind e-mailing me at ko bhatta at jee mayle? I still have a sample of the edt or edp (not sure), so that’ll be an interesting comparison!
I’m in Angela Flanders’ Ottoman this AM, which I loved at first sniff… but this morning my response is tepid. So much so I am wondering if it could have turned. I only got the sample about a month or so ago… or maybe it is just one of those broken nose days.
Well then good luck on the next wearing!
Bubble Wrap Day?? Lol! That just sounds so funny to me. Is there literally a day for everything? It seems that way.
My SOTD is Chloe by Chloe. I’m still trying to decide if I like the original / vintage Chloe or if I like the reformulated version better. Both well done in their own rights, but I like each of them for different reasons. Enjoy your Monday everyone!
I really appreciate bubble wrap. Haven’t yet run across the new kind that doesn’t pop. (SACRILEGE!!!)
Nearly bought a potted hyacinth last time I saw one. I should have bought some bulbs last fall, but I forgot. Wearing Mary Greenwell Plum today to combat the drear and gloom outside.
You smell lovely today! And way to control your spending. I am tempted any time I see potted spring bulbs in bloom. Perhaps this fall I’ll remember to buy them as well.
I’m wearing Bruno Fazzilari’s Unsettled today, I absolutely love it, but it doesn’t project or last long enough to justify putting on my Full Bottle list, as a 30ml bottle is so expensive, and a little does not (in my case) go a long way, I can’t justify the price. It is a real little gem tho, very unusual, I never got to smell Colony or Anais fizz, and have realised I love pineapple in perfume!
I really want to try this one. Add it to a very long list.
SotM = Amouge Journey Woman from a sample
I quite like this one. It smells like hairspray from the 1980’s. Maybe it was called Rave? Hard to remember, there were a lot of hairspray fumes back then.
A sample labeled “Prada by Prada” is on deck for later. Sniffing from the vial makes me think it was expensive back in the day.
Monday, ugh. Hang in there, NST, we can do this.
I can see that about the hairspray, which is maybe why it didn’t quite work for me. I do have the bodywash which I really like in the summer.
Glad it isn’t just me finding the hairspray in Journey Woman. I do like that note, but the scent as a whole is not for me either.
How à propos to have bubble wrap day the Monday after freebiemeet! I was feeling really good about my hoarding tendencies last night. Boxed up 14 packages and all of it was done with recycled boxes and packing materials. Woot!
Wearing a sample of Chanel No. 18 to yoga class this morning, will likely switch to something else afterwards as No. 18 doesn’t last long.
My husband hoards bubble wrap as he’s always needing it for something art related. He notices when I cut even a small piece off his mammoth roll!
Wearing Dark Amber and Ginger Lily with Mimosa Cardamon. This layering suggestion of Jo Malone is spot on! If I had the inclination to purchase a bottle today (actually two!) this would be it!
I don’t have both so can’t layer, but I should dig out my DA & GL this week.
Today I am wearing Sillage blanc, by Dusita. From a sample.
Loads of oakmoss and galbanum.
Yes it probably has been said/written about this fragrance at least hundred times, but it reminds me of Bandit. The drydown of Bandit is better imo. But i prefer the first hours of Sillage blanc to the opening stage of Bandit. Its more elegant and I think its perfectly fine for office. Well I wore it to office and had no complaints. Haha. Sillage is modest.
Oh and yesterday I wore a few dabs of Mitsouko. I have a very small cute mini in a small cardboard box. I dont know if its a vintage or not. But I get a lot of gorgeous musty oakmoss and after a few hours it turns into a lovely slightly salty amber on my skin. I loved it more than on previous wearings….its a scent that starts to grow on me.
I wish Mitsouko would grow on me! I have never really moved past the “great respect” stage.
Wearing the very last of a Note Vanillee sample kindly provided by a generous NSTer.
Still contemplating a FB. ????
You’re still on your vanilla kick.
Did you order a current sample yet?
My SOTD is the result of a happy layering accident – L’Artisan Oeillet Sauvage over some Sarabecca Neroli oil. Who knew carnations + neroli would work so well together?
Trying my sample of Slowdive. Mmmmm.
I have been trying to convince myself that Slowdive is not for me. That is why I am avoiding getting a sample. However, something inside me says that if I do, I might fall in love with it. So many good reviews…..
But what could go wrong? this brand offers affordable travel sprays.
I liked it a lot. But at some point it felt too much like I wanted to attract all the Pooh bears of the world haha
If you adore honey its a must try though.
Oh no! You are not helping….
I’m doing the same. It does have the same Hiram Greenade, so maybe I have enough of that, but… but…
Ha! I think we are not going to be successful ????
Cursing the return of cold and snow today. Sotd is Coco Noir. I think it’s fairly spring like, for these parts.
Smelling great Lillyjo!
We knew it would not last, yet it is still disappointing. Dreading the return to the treadmill – I’ve really been enjoying my outdoor runs.
I tried to not let it fool me, but admit, I had a tiny bit of hope.
I can usually ignore cold weather thru January. It’s towards the end of February and beginning of March when I get stir-crazy. (I hope I haven’t jinxed myself by saying that.) ????
Don’t worry, if there is a weather jinx, it’s me????
I’m wearing Wood Sage and Sea Salt today. I think I’ll be wearing it a lot in the next few weeks – I love it, and the bottle is getting close to the bottom, so I want to finish it. Did I mention that I love it?
Man, I haven’t had a sweet potato for a long time. I had forgotten how wonderful they are!
Monday – it’s going by.
I had a sweet potato drizzed with warm cashew butter for lunch yesterday. It was heaven! And you smell great.
Okay, so I know what I am having for dinner tonight. That sounds just about perfect.
That is such a refreshing scent! Just wonderful!
This may sound strange, but a sweet potato topped with a fried egg, avocado and a little salsa is my perfect complete meal!
It has never occurred to me to put any of those on a sweet potato, let alone all three. But you got me thinkin’ . . . .
Almost finishing off my sample of the cheerfully fruity Hendley Amora. Someone complimented me in this one Saturday night. That was nice ???? I does seem like a crowd pleaser. I’d consider a travel spray of this since it’s only 18 bucks. But, it’s a rarity for me to crave fruity, though I’m finding this one kind of addictive. I’ll wait and see if it’s just a fleeting crush.
Getting compliments is such a nice mood lifter!
It’s always a bonus ???? And even better if it leads to perfume inquirie. The woman who liked it said she loves perfume. I asked her which ones she wears and it’s only ever been TBS White Musk for many years. Time to get her a few more choices ????
Horror! Who knows and she will eventually go down the rabbit hole with your help. ????
I love the Hendley line. You do smell great.
Thanks! I’m really diggin’ it, too. I liked 3/3 that I’ve tried and bought a travel spray of Rosenthal.
My SOTD is Tiempe Passate by Antonia’s Flowers. Soft and soothing with the perfect amber/salt vibe.
You smell wonderful! Thank you for the idea: I’ll wear Tiempe Passate today.
Does it ever happen to you that you cannot smell it at all? I suspect that it’s Iso E Super (which I like and do not mind in perfumes) playing tricks on me from time to time. But when it doesn’t, it smells really good to me. And such a beautiful bottle!
That happens to me as well, I think the scent is gone and then I manage to catch a whiff in my hair or as I turn around. It just may be the Iso E Super, come to think of it.
I love smelling it on some of my favorite scarves days later.
OH YUM. I miss that one.
Robin, at some point, I’ll pull the trigger for a body cream, I do love body products.
I had a body cream in this scent. I’m not sure if it went off or it was just its natural way of smelling but I stopped using it because of that (I still have it half-full). What I want to say is that I recommend to buy this cream only in a B&M store (does Barney’s carry it?) to where you can return it if you try it and it’s spoiled.
I did not know (or had forgotten) that she even did body products. Hmmm.
Best of mornings to you, NST. Aotearoa-New Zealand is sweltering, simply, and if I could have wish granted at this very minute, it would be to take our excess heat and send it up to the Other Hemisphere so that we could all have a comfy temperature of about 22. I like my cool perfumes well enough, and Ninfeo Mio is a good one among them, but it’s not madly interesting. Just another cool smell for a hot day. In other words, I’m a bit bored, tired of one-garment dressing (did I really like that dress when I bought it?) and yearning to wear a deep, rich…something. Epic? 1270? Queen of the Night?
It’s not quite 6 a.m., and the temp is already 20. Titus has been bringing me his Peggy Sue to play fetch, and usually when I throw the peg, he absolutely hurtles after it, but this morning, he only strolled after it. Alexander hasn’t moved. He’s lying where the very edge of the breeze from the fan is playing on him. I wish I could join him for the rest of the day. Eric is pottering about in his own little Eric-world. Oh, and a little bit of news: today Eric is officially moves from being a kitten to being an adult cat. He’s now nine months old. The Stripies have one more week of kittenhood to go.
Well, it’s early, but I might as well head up to work. Last week I submitted an expression of interest in becoming Deputy Head of School. I will probably hear about that today, and the nice thing is, I’m completely OK with whichever way that goes. Be well, all.
But I thought you were going to retire?
I was, indeed. But the moment passed, and here I am…. and my life is changing. I’m currently thinking of another 2 years. If it doesn’t work, then I can still retire.
Good luck with becoming a Deputy though I think you should be Sherrif. I hope things are going Ok in Whanganui.
It’s too hot here. I was out on the hill before sunrise and there was sea fig iver the harbour but heat on the hill and such an amazing scent…almost like green tea mixed with spearmint. Not from any single plant but just the whole mix. The dogs are dragging their tongues ( i learnt that dogs have a higher body temperature than humans so can overheat). Keep fresh! Maybe it’s cologne time? Chanel cologne time!
Hurray for kitten updates!
Bon chance, waterdragon!
Lush Cardamom Coffee today. Mmmmmm, good!
Remember last week wh e I was wrestling with the spray top & sprayer on my SL bottle? I was getting ready to use the pliers to pull the sprayer out of the top when Mr. A sauntered by and said “Why don’t you just put the whole thing IN the bottle and see if it comes loose?”. Which it immediately did. He had the good sense not to grow about his genius. ; -)
I somehow don’t get it, mechanically, but glad whatever it was worked!
An unexpected day at home with a sick kid.☹️
Vanille Insensee for a day of snuggling on the couch watching Netflix and Amazon prime.
Hope madtownkid is better soon, and that you enjoy the binge watching in the meantime!
oh man! Hope you find some good shows and that your kiddo has a fast recovery
Hope your kiddo feels better soon, but sounds like a cozy day!
Ooof, hope that your kid feels better soon, and that everyone else doesn’t get it.
I needed to feel like a badass today so I’m in No. 19. I love it sooooo much. So glad I got a bottle for Christmas since my decant is almost gone.
May the Force be with you You smell great!
Ha! I have been thinking of scents for various Star Wars characters (if they wear scent in space, that is.) I should work o my list and share with you guys!
Top 3 favorite scents (if I absolutely had to chooose). You smell fabulous! I hope it did it’s job today!
Hooray to No. 19EDP!
Terry de Gunzberg Rose Infernale, thanks to the generous Laura! I think this means…spring?
Speaking of smelly flowers, in addition to my many wonderfully smelly hyacinths, my paperwhites are going to bloom soon, and some of my gardenias look like they’ll open in the next week or so. No signs of life on my jasmine yet, BUT I did find tuberose stalks at the farmers’ market yesterday!!!! Ooooo I cannot wait for those to open. Yum yum. We also went to the forest to see if we could forage any greens (we decided we aren’t nearly competent or confident enough to eat things we found in a forest), and we found a mimosa grove, so I’ve now got a lovely and smelly bouquet of those in my bedroom
I love mimosa this time of year! Enjoy
Wow, what an abundance of lovely floral smells surrounding you!
I’m curious: does the idea for this Friday calls for equal number of different types of perfumes (so chances would be 50/50, and one could play it with just 2 samples – that’s what I’ll probably do), or should it be somehow randomized proportion?
It would be equal, and doesn’t matter how many so long as it’s equal — at least, that is how I envisioned it. I would think Our Lady Donatella is watching and will know if you cheated…
They had a great article about Donatella in this past weekends WSJ magazine. The name is Versace’s 2020 vision.
Here is a quote from the article you can all appreciate:
“Donatella has been sober for 14 years now, although she says there’s one last vice she will never surrender “I have a glamour addiction to creams and hair products. I’ve got to have something, yes?””
Excellent, thank you!!
Question: has anyone here tried the EdP version of 28 La Pausa? I hear the longevity is markedly better than the EdT. Thoughts?
SOTD is Beloved.
The EdP lasts longer. However, despite its beauty unfortunately is not the same as the EdT.
Victoria on Bois de Jasmin recently listed the EDP in her 10 best winter irises post – you may find some interesting comments there.
I hope you can test a sample. It smelled rather different to me. I like a couple of the EdPs better than the originals, and some the reverse. It *should* have better longevity, but I did not try it on skin, so I can’t say.
How, exactly, is it already the end of Jan????
In Eau Premiere, and am getting ready for Spring. The past few days have been spring like, unlike last year.
No kidding. Where did it go?
What do you mean the end of January?!! Oh… right…
Today in South Fla. wearing Delina by Parfums de Marly!
I am feeling so special and happy. Drinking Zen tea and working from home…
I’ve heard Delina is beautiful.
I decided I needed a dose of spring today, so I went with Sylvaine Delacourte’s Florentina. It’s a perfect in-between seasons iris, because it tempers the cool rootiness of the iris and the vetiver with the warmth of carnation and benzoin.
Drinking Earl Grey, but wishing it were a double espresso right now….
Oh that sounds nice. I think I have a dabber of it somewhere I must dig out and try again.
I’m wearing Kilian Woman in Gold this morning, a perfect no-brainer of a perfume. Light, pretty, non-offensive to anyone. I’m glad I didn’t buy it, but I’ll wear the heck out the free 10ml I received.
I had a busy weekend, so I am taking care of myself by having a “sick” day to rest and rejuvinate before working the rest of the week. I’ll enjoy using the gym while it’s quieter during the day, and that’s my only plan other than cooking chicken in red curry sauce for dinner tonight. With the talk of Beloved above, I’m tempted to spray some this morning. Should bloom pretty magnificently at the gym!
A day to rest and rejuvenate sounds fantastic!
I highly recommend it!
I didn’t do a very good job keeping life balance this fall/winter, so it seems like a good thing to reassert into my life for spring term. ????
I just call it a mental health day!
Our warm weather continues, it’s been quite amazing. I’m in the mood for something classic today, so will be wafting Sortilège through the office – the current version, I’ve never smelled any vintage.
Good morning everyone. After an unusually dreary cold month, we finally have sunshine and gorgeous blue sky today. I wish I could share it with everyone up north. I’m wearing Grandiflora Queen of the Night and loving it. I”m just relaxing after a somewhat stressful/somewhat fun visit from my mother up here this weekend. We visited the Oscar de la Renta dress exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts and went to The Barber of Seville at the opera yesterday, plus ate one dinner at some friends’ house and had one brunch out with other friends. Mom is unpredictable and got the shakes at the opera for awhile (just the crowd) but on the whole seemed to enjoy it.
I meant to say, but got sidetracked, that I’ve just ordered four samples from Luckyscent of various MFK fragrances. There’s a few of his that I’ve tried and really love, and it seemed like a good idea to explore this line more. I just with they weren’t so expensive. One of them might be in my future at a splitmeet!
The travel spray sets are a less expensive option, but I believe they’re only available for a few scents.
Also you can sometimes find MFK perfumes on FragranceNet.
That does sound like a fun weekend despite any stress!
Trying out Atelier’s Iris Rebelle. Love the carroty opening, and it’s much more vegetal and less sweet than I had imagined – both good things! I’m worried it’s taking a funky turn with my chemistry right now though… I’ll have to try it again next time I’m at Sephora. I am a fan of their travel spray sizes…
Scent twins today! I’m also into Iris Rebelle.
Just popping in to say that I sampled Guerlain Lui, and could not believe my nose. To me, it smells like 1999 Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete, that is, a carnation oriental. Has anyone else tried this one?
GRRRRR. I’d been pondering a sample of Lui for some time. Now I think I really must.
(I thought Voile d’Ete was wonderful, except I hated the way it shrank so abruptly. I mean, a perfume should either be loud or be soft — so I know how to dose it!)
I’m finding it a bit more leathery this evening, but still surprisingly warm and almost sweet. Very surprising for “Lui”! Keep in mind I’m only dabbing, it though. I really need to decant it into a sprayer to get the full effect, perhaps.
I may do a split of this. I got my bottle in December but have not yet opened it because the SA gave me a largish decant.
I did at the Guerlain spa late last year, but never tried the Terracotta you mentioned. Grain de musc blog gave this description “The red carnation that burns at the heart of L’Heure Bleue and Mitsouko lights up the sweet fumes of benzoin. As retro as the black Deco bottle it filched from Liu, with a contemporary, pared-down build.”
That review did not hurt my interest in trying it! Kafkaesque and the Candy Perfume Boy also liked it. Kafkaesque didn’t get the eugenol that he did, though.
I tried the new Lui at the Guerlain shop at Epcot over the holidays. It was the one I went in intending to buy, based on the much-loved listed notes, but I walked out with Spiritueuse Double Vanille.
Lui did not remind me the ’99 Terracotta, which I owned and emptied, most unfortunately. On me, Lui was thinner and more generic-masculine than I expected, although the dry-down was lovely.
BTW, the 2017 Spiritueuse Double Vanille IS less boozy than the original, as some have reported. The lack of booze does not equal a lack of richness or depth however, and the current version’s dryness is very appealing.
I got a ton of clove from Lui.
It’s fascinating how noses differ on this. I got a lot of carnation the first time I tried it but not today. I really want to spray it and see how much difference that makes.
Joining in a little bit late today to say that I’m wearing Atelier Cologne Iris Rebelle.
Being an iris lover, what do you think about it?
I really like it!
I also like it, but still thinking about it…
too much carrots when I tried it. Money saved!
I got carrots too but just a little bit. It’s really growing on me and I might get a bottle.
Another proof that trying on skin means everything.
I’m looking forward to comparing it to Bruma. I was surprised to find that I liked Bruma.
I have not tried Bruma yet but want to give it a go when I have a chance
Huh. I should do a side by side. There are definite similarities but I think Bruma is smoother and more feminine.
I love love love Bruma. That’s all.
I tried it today, found it to be pleasant but not FBW. I still love Silver Iris more.
I just love Silver Iris!
Really enjoying my experimental combo of Keiko Mecheri White Petals and Skarlett. The spice of Skarlett really works with White Petals. The combo feels like a winter suitable white flower. Love it when perfume experiments work in unexpected ways.????
Moonlight Patchouli by Van Cleef & Arpels. The best blind buy I’ve ever made. Yesterday, my dearest friend who’s visiting from across the country said, “What are you wearing? That just smells like you!”
This was on the beach in L.A., where it was 84 degrees yesterday, thanks to the Santa Ana winds, where the suede and spice were wafting a good six hours after application. But Moonlight Patchouli rocks the cool weather too, where the rose and iris come to the fore.
You smell fab! I love Moonlight Patchouli. On my skin a sueded iris is the most prominent and that’s why I love it so much.
Oh that makes it sound like something I would really like.
Thanks! It’s really special, isn’t it?
This is a favorite of mine as well, blind buy also. ????
Oh those successful blind buys! They work just often enough to keep me doing it, but if I add up the fails….
Moonlight Patch is so great though, it makes up for all the others.
I recently bought this off ebay. Really nice scent.
Aerin amber musk along with some J’adore Touché! Have a great Monday!
I just figured I would reach into the sample cup every day this week, and decide if any should be passed on to my pals–today is (I believe, semi-rubbed off name) Daim Blonde, and I think it would be good for anyone wanting a gentlepersonly suede feeling, though the scent has worn away, too.
Changing things up just a little with Samsara EdP this time. I was right… that bottle wanted some love, too. It smelled great during my workout. Time to line up a couple of other bottles for their turn in the spotlight.
I finished off a sample of Une Fleur de Cassie for a dose of beauty and comfort on a Monday. This morning I needed it especially because I overslept by 45 minutes! I hate having to jump out of bed like that.
Ugh, I hate having to rush out the door. Why can’t I oversleep when I don’t have to go anywhere?
But you got 45 extra minutes of sleep – which isn’t that bad on its own, right?
SOTD = Rania J. Ambre Loup
I love this even more every time I wear it! I officially got the last possible spritz of my decant and I am ready for my FB debut. Woody boozy incensy spicy tobacco-less tobacco.
Looking forward to reading everyone’s pick for today. For the Friday Challenge, I plan to do a coin flip and wear the sunshine or shadow perfume.
I love this one, especially at night.
Do you like any of her other perfumes?
Since I planned to choose between two (irises) about which I think in terms of winter vs. summer, and there’s a chance that those will be coming from bottles, I was also planning to do the actual choosing with the help of a coin (or maybe I’ll ask Rusty to choose ).
If you can keep his interest long enough, why not? ????
