Happy Australia Day, happy Peanut Brittle Day and happy Friday! Our community project for today: wear one of your "top 10 of winter" fragrances (unless it's summer where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of summer" scents).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
From Angie's Top 10 of Winter 2018 post (coming up later today), I picked vintage Miss Dior. I smell fabulous, darling.
Reminder: on 2/2, we're doing Groundhog Day...assemble some winter- and spring-appropriate samples in a bowl, pick one at random, then tell us if spring will be early or late this year.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows the Dior Mitzah ABC scarves ("Mitzah Bricard, Christian Dior’s muse, still inspires the House’s creations. Wrapped around her neck, a string of fine pearls. Wrapped around her wrist, a leopard-print silk scarf. This is the one found in this collection, printed on both sides with the iconic Dior codes. Through these twenty-six pieces, discover the entire story of the House, from A to Z, like a guessing game."), $230 each at Dior boutiques or Bergdorf Goodman.
Finally Friday! Wearing another winter favorite: Dior Oud Ispahan. Beautiful and embracing.
Drinkinh lots of coffee for a non-sense day. Missing Bear and his triple-streght coffee. Hope everything is fine with him.
Have a great Friday! Joining you in missing Bear.
Me too! My FIL introduced my little monkey to bollywood music..how many times can you listen to Dola Re Dola? She keeps asking me to turn it up, Bear style!
you smell great!
Thank you!
I’m with you on the coffee! Scalding hot! Yum! ☕️
☕☕☕????
Yeah, I miss Bear’s posts too. Hope he is doing OK.
I was thinking of Bear just yesterday, missing him. You smell wonderful- I sniffed that one inn Vegas last year and loved it.
Thank you. It is indeed a gorgeous perfume.
Still winter where I’m at, but I picked a summery scent for today – Pacifica Dream State roll-on perfume oil. It’s sparkling lemon over musky jasmine.
Happy Friday! My bf and I are going out to our favorite brewery for dinner and beers tonight before he moves out of state tomorrow for a new job. I’ll miss having him around, but I’m also excited to try living alone for the first time in my life.
Have a great time tonight, holyneroli, and hope you will like living alone! Now I’m trying to remember when I first lived alone and can’t think of it…but do remember I loved having my own apartment.
I hope his new job is a great fit for him. I loved having a place all to myself – I find it to be a real treat to occasionally have the house to myself when my husband is out of town.
Enjoy the beer!
Ditto!
I love it when my husband travels out of town, having the house to myself and no one to check in with. Freedom! But it’s also nice when he comes home too.
I hope you have a wonderful evening!
Annick Goutal Mon Parfum Cherie par Camille EDT. I love it, now I’m tempted by the EDP version I came across on FragranceNet. Do I really need both versions?
Well you might need to get a backup since they’re not making it anymore ( do I have that right?)
Well I’ve got the two versions and I happen to prefer the EDP, it’s richer, if that were at all possible. But the difference is not as significant as with say Grand Amour.
And if you happen upon a bottle for a fair price, do grab it, it has been discontinued.
Thanks for the advice.
Today’s SOTD is YSL’s vintage Opium extrait.
Happy Friday schmoopies. 🙂
I don’t think anything smells better than vintage opium on a sweater after a two day drydown. You smell great!
I love smelling whatever is left on my sweater or scarves too
I love the dry down effect too! My latest fave is Chanel No 19 from a few days ago on my jammies.
So good!
My fave this winter is When We Cuddle on the sleeves of my bathrobe. Nom.
Oh, geez, my dirty mind is giggling.
Ha!
LLOL ~ too good!
God yes. Opium + cashmere sweater+ leather jacket = love!
In Sel de Vetiver today, decidedly not a winter scent but has not been in rotation lately. Lovely that it is Fri..! Going to the Golden Gate Kennel Club show this weekend and will have l’eau de clean dog on me 🙂
Gorgeous salty green scent, oooh, you’re going too? The hubby and I are thinking of attending on Sunday, he and I both love toy dogs (Poms and Papillons in particular). I also want to see the hound group if possible, I grew up with mini doxies.
Have a nice time this weekend!
I have a bernese mountain dog and several friends who are showing theirs. Enjoy
Oh I LOVE Bernese Mountain Dogs! They are such sweet gentle souls.
I have 2 papillons. 🙂
Ohhhh! I adore Papillons! You are such a lucky duck!
We’ll have to wait until our cats cross the rainbow bridge (we have two Maine Coons, each weighing in at about 20 lbs) Gino might be ok but SmokeyToes would not be happy.
In truth, we think SmokeyToes should have been named Caligula, if that tells you anything…
you smell wonderfully!
Was planning on wearing Coco edp, but feeling hectic today. I went with Mad Madame and Korres Jasmine lotion. A winter favorite for the last few years. Have a great day everyone!
Nice combo!
Actually, I wonder if Coco mixed with Jasmine lotion would work….. might give that a try this weekend.
It does work nicely! Give it a try.
I love layering and mixing perfumed lotions – gives a perfume a new twist!
LOVE the Korres Jasmine lotion in winter! It’s a fantastic pick me up.
I’ve managed to make mine last about two years. You only need a small amount. I tried the shower gel, and didn’t care for the consistency, unfortunately.
Two years!! Wow! Impressive! I think I get about 8 months from a tube.
Did you find the gel too thin?
To thin, and not much lather. I know some people prefer low lather, but I’m not one of them.
Right. I did not mind the consistency, but I do prefer Lush Flying Fox.
Parfum Sacre yet again today. When it feels right, it just feels right. 🙂
I love that image! However, if I’m to “discover the entire story of the house” of Dior by interpreting 26 scarves at $230 a pop, I don’t think that’s gonna happen.
Good scent for a cold day
Yeah, that’s one story I definitely can’t afford to read. Pretty scarves, however.
I really like a few of them, and I like the size. Would never use one though.
Yes. I am confused. It is a scarf for your wrist? Do you wear one on each wrist? It sounds like a massive joke on the customer!!!
They market them like the Hermes Twillys, I think — your wrist, a bag scarf, etc, but also there are lots of pictures of people wearing them around the neck.
If only I led a life where these scarves would accessorize my daily couture…pretty sure I’d look like an imbecile wearing one in the life I DO lead….and if I DID have that kind of money, I would have a Donatellaesque perfume collection, T-Rex would rock some seriously radical collars and sweaters, and I’d have a high class camper van!
Yeah, ditto. I would feel silly wearing it. And as it is, I have a drawer full of scarves I never wear. Luckily, the didn’t cost this much 🙂
AA Pamplelune today. I always like it in the winter because it feels icy to me…and it is supposed to be 50 degrees today so I wanted a break from wintry heavy hitters. Happy Friday everyone!
We are only getting 40, so jealous of your 50!
Don’t be too jealous. We had 45 mph wind gusts. Kinda took the fun out of it. I did force myself to walk around outside for an hour or so though.
Oh, that would take the fun out of it! Good for you for getting in a long walk anyway.
You certainly do smell fabulous, Robin!
Today I am wearing Chanel 1932 and I am drinking a cup of green jasmine tea.
You smell wonderful.
And so do you, of course!
I am almost out of my jasmine tea so rationing it until I get more 🙂
1932 was a surprise for me, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it but that and Beige caught my fancy (and Misia as well). You smell great today!
Today I’m just in vanille insensee – something very light. In about an hour I’ll be picking my kitty Bear up from a pretty intensive (and 4k dollar, ACK) surgery. I want him to recognize my smell and feel comforted by me, so I don’t want anything too strong.
Hoping the surgery will help give bear a few more solid and pain-free years. It’s a little bit of a gamble, but he’s worth it. Yay for credit cards! 🙂
Best wishes for your kitty!!! I imagine he’ll be super-glad to be home with you again.
Hope you kitty recovers completely!
About 6 years ago, we adopted a kitten from a good friend. “Free Kitten”, right? Wrong! LOL! When we took him to be neutered, he had to have surgery because he hadn’t developed correctly. THEN, he developed a hernia at the surgical site, and needed more surgery. THEN, he opened his stitches and needed a 3rd procedure. After that, poor buddy spent 6 weeks confined in a puppy crate, to keep him from jumping and re-injuring himself.
$2000 later, we had a healthy, neutered kitty. He’s 6 now, and I would have paid much more to have healthy! (My hubby wouldn’t have paid the 1st $2000….LOL)
Here is my Gandalf….my “FREE cat”…….my furry son on the left! 🙂
https://www.instagram.com/p/BeavT5agjKO/?taken-by=jadainga99
Oh, he’s gorgeous–Gray kitties are my favourite!
hehe i feel you there – i’ve got to keep the cone of shame on him for 2 weeks so that he hopefully won’t pop his sutures. i’m glad your kitty made it through!
Hope your kitty recovers soon!
Oh, my, I forgot what was wrong with him, but really do hope he’ll be better now. I have to take my fluffy calico cat Kayla back to the doctor today because she’s still having soft poops after two weeks of meds. She might have kitty IBS.
Wishing the best outcome for kitty and you! I’d do (and spend) the same for my little guys.
I hope your kitty recovers quickly. I know he’ll be extremely happy to see you.
I would spend all of my money on my cat if necessary. She has brought me so much joy.
Hoping Bear has a speedy recovery.
Wishing you good luck with your kitty and that he has a speedy recovery.
SmokeyToes gives his kind meows and well-wishes too. =^ . ^=
Best of luck to you and Bear <3 Our cat had horrible surgeries two years ago and is as loving and attention-demanding as ever! So I wish you the same 🙂
Speedy recovery for lé petit chat! ????
Adding my good thoughts and wishes for a speedy recovery.
I hope Bear is lucky, the surgery helps and he recovers quickly (and your credit card too 😉 )!
thanks for all of the well wishes everyone! he’s home now – but not super happy about being locked in a room by himself and with the e-collar that he has to wear for TWO weeks… if anyone was curious – he had bilateral perineal hernias (hernias in his butt, that poop was getting stuck in and i had to manually remove…) now i’ve got to keep him clean back there and he’s on an extreme amount of laxatives.
there’s nothing better than trying to clean your cat’s butt after surgery when you’re 36 weeks preggo. =D it should be a fun 2 weeks, but hopefully he’ll be back to himself in no time!
Glad to hear he’s home, but oy. That’s love ❤
Agreed
Oh poor Bear kitty! Best of luck with his recovery. The one time one of my cats had to wear an e-collar, she HATED it so much.
Healing vibes for your kitty!
Wearing Niki De Saint Phalle today. To me it feels bracing & wintry – reflective of the type of weather today. Hoping to get to see The Shape of Water this weekend (after raking all the leaves in the yard – a task that got put aside during my mom’s illness after Thanksgiving).
You need to see this movie.
That is all.
And it’s Friday once again…..YAY! This was a tough week! 🙂
I had trouble picking a scent today, because winter fragrances are always my favorites. Winter means ‘fumes with more oomph!
I could have gone with any number of favorites, but I went with Stash Unspoken, because it’s my latest love….Light enough for the office, but enough oomph to make me smile. It’s a winner!
I have the regular Stash, which I wear frequently – how did I miss hearing about Stash Unspoken?
I think it was launched right at Christmas? I’ve only had it since the 1st of the year, but I’ve worn it several times….it’s a goodie!
Cape Mama, I have a bottle of Stash Unspoken – was going to offer it at the freebie meet. If you’re in the US, I’ll be happy to send it to you. I tried it but wasn’t for me. Love the bottle though. Send me an email if you are interested Beas dot Beverly attt gmailll dot commm
No one told you about it?
I have regular Stash, but I have not tried unspoken!
Meant to wear Anima Dulcis but couldn’t find the rascally decant this morning. So I went with La Fumée Arabie (I know it was mentioned during Vanilla Week, so it was kind of on my mind anyway).
TGIF!!!!
My decants are supposedly alphabetized and they still go hiding…
My decants are running amok, need to spend time organizing this weekend!
That’s the one I almost wore this morning. You smell great!
Lutens’ Douce Amère, because I’ve been neglecting my bottle and I do love it so.
And I’m glad that you smell fab, Robin!
And of course you smell fab too! I neglect my bottle of DA something awful. And have not been wearing Chene as much as I used to.
Taking baby buddha for a check up
Mon Précieux Nectar….a pick me up for winter!
Kisses for baby buddha! And you smell great!
You smell very lovely! Love Mon Précieux Nectar…
Thank you-Baby Buddha adores kisses but not finger pricks so much! HA!
You smell great! I hope that Baby Buddha doesn’t feel the pinch.
you smell great!
Baby Buddha! ****❤️****
I went with Guerlain SDV. I am also doing an experiment. I have a few drops left in a multiple (more than 5) years old decant from a lovely NST perfumista and that is on my left forearm. I also now have a brand new decant (not only new to me, but also from a new bottle) from a different and equally lovely NST perfumista, and I spritzed that on my right forearm. SDV is definitely a favorite winter fragrance, but I have been stingy in using it as I didn’t have much.
I can say that the new one smells lovely BUT it is not the same — not only is it much lighter in color, but it also smells “thinner,” not nearly as deep, rich, and boozy, as the older one, at least initially. But I’ll report back as the day progresses.
I am wondering whether this is all due to reformulation or whether a bit of it may be due to my older decant becoming more concentrated. It is definitely much darker in color.
Interesting observation.. I have to re-visit SDV the next time I am at the Guerlain counter
It has been reformulated and is much thinner and less boozy than it was.
So. Very. Sad. ????
IT’s a crime.
A 5 year old decant will definitely have aged, so the answer is probably somewhere in between!
I haven’t tried the newer version (there’s absolutely no way it hadn’t been reformulated at least once in the last 5 years) but I can confirm that I saw it myself and read elsewhere that SDV gets darker over time.
Here’s the verdict from my experiment: The current SDV is still lovely and I really like it. But it’s not as amazing as the original or at least compared with my older decant. I thought they might become more similar as they dried down and they did a little bit. But the older one is still richer/deeper and more boozy. I’m a little bit sad, yet glad it’s still around in a pretty decent form.
Casmir! Go big or go home.????
TGIF!
????
Casmir!!!! Casmir was the first fragrance that made me realize that perfume isn’t just about smelling good…but also about a mood, an idea, a statement, a feeling, etc…
You are smelling fabulous! I have a BUB of Casmir, just in case.
Great choice! You smell wonderful.
Today is going to be a little frenetic and chaotic, so a spray of vintage Obsession is where I’m at. Cue black-and-white dramatic morning with breathy narrator.
LOL — that sounds like you’d better cue up a breathing exercise for the afternoon 🙂
I’m doing some indifference yoga to cue up my best Kate Moss IDGAF expression for today.
lol!
Ha, excellent!!
TGIF!
SOTD: Iris Ganache.
Delicious. I am still saving up my bottle like it’s still discontinued. They seriously need to restock this all-around-the-world!
SOTM(moment) Parfum d’Empire Tabac Tabou from a sample vial – which has become full blown urine on me. Eech. I was horrified thinking our puppy (a 5mo who is mostly accident free now) may have peed on my sweater, but at least it’s ‘just’ my wrist..ha. I am so glad I didn’t dab my neck!
Off to scrub it off, then I will put some AC Vetiver Fatale I keep in my office stash.
Oh no, that’s awful! I’m glad your sweater isn’t covered in urine.
Oof. Which is why I’m afraid to wear something that hasn’t thoroughly passed inspection to work (like I did today, lol. No urine though, thank goodness).
I am wearing what is probably my favorite of L’Artisan, Voleur de Roses. In fact I just bought my third full bottle of the year. Twenty-six days into the new year and three full bottles. I don’t know why I’m not satisfied with minis and decants and samples anymore. I know full bottles are more cost effective, but I hate to spend the money. Oh, well, I never deposited my Christmas bonus in my savings account, so its there to use.
Wow, three full bottles! I’ve only ever needed to accomplish that due to slippery fingers and gravity. I am envious of your skill.
You smell great! I don’t like decants or samples either. Not esthetically satisfying and high cost per ml.
Except splitmeet decants!!
I agree decant vials are generally unattractive, but I have invested in some really pretty bottles and occasionally dump my ugly decants into my pretty bottles. But I too have been following the siren song of the beauty of real bottles, and that is one reason why I have too much perfume.
A bottle in time saves nine!
What was in your tea this morning!?! 😉
Exactly! But it is Saturday here so there’s that.
I see we are feeling feisty this morning! 🙂 You must be doing well. My husband can tell I’m feeling good when I get that way.
I guess I don’t teally have a winter favorite since my tendency these days is away from heavy and sweet., plus my love of novelty interferes with loyalty.
I wore something untried today since my Hendley Rosenthal travel spray arrived last night with 2 free samples of Bourbon and Amora. Wearing Amora which is a tart stone fruit stew, ambergris, light resins and a touch of rose. It’s bright, cheerful, interesting, and not too heavy or sweet. It’s a fun one so far!
I think wearing minimal, lighter/drier perfumes actually works well in the cold winter, as the brisk atmosphere heightens our perception and so we can better smell the more quieter parts of a fragrance we might not catch in a summer’s humid heat. Do you ever get that impression?
I think that I’m just preferring that genre in general these days. But, yes, there’s something about brisk air that enhances some of those and makes them sparkle. I actually prefer some of the heavier stuff on summer eves/nights. Maybe the heat makes them more volatile so they don’t lie in a syrupy sweet pool on me like they do in winter?
I think you’re absolutely right. It’s a sort of counter-intuitive thinking to hack the atmospheric pressures, but I also think it might attenuate the more syrupy qualities, too, in that it holds them back a bit.
“my love of novelty interferes with loyalty” – LOL
The very last of the Tihota so kindly given to me by a generous NSTer.
You smell wonderful. 🙂 I am having lunch today with a friend whose signature scent is Tihota.
I went with Chergui as one of my top ten favorites today. The dry down is normally gorgeous but I am picking up cumin which I really hate. Boo! I never noticed it before. I hope I can unsmell it next wear.
I’ll be cruising on Saturday and next week, so I probably won’t be able to post in the Freebie Meet. I have a few things that I’ll post when I return from vaca. Have a happy week NSTrs! ????????
Where will you be going on your cruise? I hope you have a wonderful time! I’ve also had Chergui shift on me like that, so I know what you mean.
Thank you! I will be cruising in the Bahamas. Jamaica, Grand Cru, Grand Cay and Nassau. We originally booked different islands but the hurricane changed our destinations. Truthfully, I’m just so happy to have a week off, the destinations are secondary.
Oh how lovely. Enjoy!!
Thanks Koyel. I hope you are feeling better.
Petunia that sounds so awesome. Have a great time.
Have a wonderful trip!
Thank you! We have to catch a 6 AM flight to Miami tomorrow morning so it should be interesting.
Sounds great (except for the 6am flight)! Hope you have a great time and looking forward to hearing about it for some vicarious pleasure!
I’m doing my happy dance! Four more hours to freedom!????
Enjoy your vacation!
Thank you!
Oh, happy sailing! I hope the weather is kind and you find a fabulous momento or two to purchase as a remembrance. ????
Thanks Deva!
Enjoy your well-deserved vacation!
Safe travels on your cruise! Enjoy!
Happy Cruising, Petunia!
Enjoy yourself!
I’m wearing Slumberhouse Jeke which is delicious and gives you the feeling of having come into a warm place out of the cold, only without ever having to go out in the cold in the first place.
Nice! This is a house that I would like to thoroughly explore this year. Great description ????????
My SOTD is Jil Sander No. 4. I wear it very rarely but sought it out today thinking it would help cut through my current allergy-stuffy head. Yes indeed it does! A real powerhouse and a beauty. Too diva-ish for me, really, but a beauty.
I saw The Shape of Water yesterday and thought it was wonderful. I hope your teaching went well this past week.
Oh, I’m glad to hear it! I saw it for the 2nd time on Wednesday and loved it even more. Yes thank you classes went pretty well, although one is much more lively than the other. Not sure what it is but I suspect it’s just time of day–2:30-4, kind of dead afternoon time. I told the class last time I was going to have to bring a bit vat of Starbuck’s coffee next week in order to wake them all up!
I’m wearing Bois Farine, which I think of as winter-ish because I got this bottle for Christmas, but I’m pretty sure it could be worn all year. However, in South Carolina we don’t really get much winter, so I can wear anything right now.
Happy Friday everyone!
You smell great! I also bought Bois Farine in the winter so it’s stuck in my mind as a cool weather perfume. I tried it on a hot humid day last summer and it was too much.
Such a great scent!
Like madtowngirl, I decided to go big or go home! SOTD is therefore Kenzo Jungle Elephant – loud, spicy goodness. ????
I like the go big or go home theme!
You smell wonderful! I wore it last night for dinner outside with a friend and she loved it. I promised to make a decant for her when we meet again in 2 weeks.
Wonderful perfume- Just bursting with life and energy! You smell fabulous????????
Good stuff for sure!
Ah I love that one! Should have worn it this week!
Fille en Aiguilles. Pine, Incense, Stewed fruits in syrup.
I sniffed that one not too long ago and it had stayed on my mind ever since. It’s lovely!
I’m in Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense… well… because it’s Prada… and it’s great for winter 😉
I think cold weather can handle intense
SOTD Lostmarc’h Lann-ael from a generous NST’er 🙂
This am I asked my husband what he smelled, he said “hmm, it’s nice, sweet, gourmand”. He likes it, but I’m going to give him another chance to smell it tonight before I tell him the cereal note.
Robin, you do smell fabulous. I love the ABC scarves and learning a little bit of Dior history. I think I want the “C” scarf. I just picked up a Dior polka dot robe at the thrift shop this AM, $1, and $5 monet shell gold post earrings – have been looking for those for ever – score.
Score! I have a pair of Monet pearl stud earrings I bought when I was in college, have worn them so many times, and often get asked where I bought them. 😀
Nice!! Hope you’ll find a Mitzah scarf for $3.50 😉
Feeling cold and unmotivated to go to my killer yoga class this morning, so I’m going to spritz on some Zagorsk. May switch to something else later after my shower but hoping this one will invigorate me enough to get through class.
Zagorsk is lovely . I imagine it would be good for meditation.
It worked well, plus the teacher burnt some palo santo wood, which I love.
How nice! I was so unmotivated I missed yoga class altogether, and did a decidedly UN-killer routine at home.
Oh, is that what you’re supposed to do with those narrow scarves? Wind it around your wrist? I’ve still got an Hermes Twilly scarf I don’t know what to do with. It’s expensive enough that I hesitate to just give it away (and it was a present), but I just don’t understand why one would want to wrap a scarf around one’s wrist. (Unless the Dior scarves are smaller than the Hermes Twilly.)
Anyway, I’m house twins with Robin today! (Good choice, by the way. I’ve got a teeny bottle of vintage Miss Dior parfum that I’d all but forgotten about. I should use it more. It’s so lovely and unusual.) I’m in Gris Montaigne from a decant provided to me by the very generous Laura. It’s been about two hours since I put it on, and it’s even more beautiful now than it was then. It is just the softest, most intimate rose. Everything about this scent is intimate. I love it, which is not great, because I’m concerned a decant won’t be enough and that I’ll need to buy a bottle. Grump. My list is long enough.
One option is to wrap the twilly around the handle of your Birkin bag ????
I was watching videos on how people buy them. The hoops they have to go through. It must be worth it!
Oh yes, give me a moment while I grab my purse that costs as much as a sports car.
I listened to a podcast on Birkins from Planet Money! So absurd! And WHY? They aren’t even pretty. I simply don’t get it. I bet a high-quality knockoff could be made for a couple hundred.
Yeah, I don’t even find Birkin bags attractive.
Is it long enough to wear it as a belt?
I think so, but it would feel weird to mistreat it that much. I’d feel very timid about tying it or sitting down!
People do wear them around the neck!
I’m in La Prairie Silver Rain. This one is quite intense on me, so I do like it best in winter.
La Prairie gave up on fragrance, didn’t they? I don’t think they’ve had a new one in ages.
Happy A Day to all from down under! Hoping you are having a splendiferous day????????
As per usual, I am out of synch with the community project. Instead, I’m stuck on “Opposites” with Corsica Furiosa. Can’t say I miss sweltering temps with 100% humidity, but I would really love to see some sun and shut off the endless rain. Sheesh. What about moderation? Has that gone out of style? I’m a middle of the roader on most things, but especially weather! Wah-wah-wah!
Hope the weather is better near you????
I still haven’t tried Corsica Furiosa but I think it woukd be ideal for our summer. I have been reaching for CdG Airborne which might have a similar wild landscape vibe. I hope the clouds lift soon
Sorry about your rain, but you do smell like sunshine!
Happy Friday!
1) Fave Winter Scent: It’s Boucheron, actually BUT I am wearing the runner up, Noir pour Femme. This is just amazingly gorgeous; my favorite bit about it is when it settles down an hour after you spray it. Wow, such a lush, incredible scent- and perfect for chilly Winter days- and nights!
2) Y’all all need to see Shape of Water, Call Me by Your Name, Mudbound, Phantom Thread and Darkest Hour.
It’s been ages since I went to the movies. I really enjoy the big screen effect, but just can get over the cost of tickets and concession items. Could it be I’m cheap? ????
It’s one of the only times I am glad to be called a “senior” so as to get the reduced price tickets!
Movies have become very expensive! What I do is buy ticket vouchers for the major chains from Costco. It’s a bump to the wallet straight up BUT like all things Costco you save money over the long run. Check it:
https://www.costco.com/movie-tickets.html
Also, I used to be in The Business and I have friends who are in the business, so I get to see screeners at friend’s homes here in PDX. ( I cannot borrow screeners).
Call Me by Your Name is a very intimate and sensual movie and would be best seen in a home theater (like Moonlight) same with Mudbound. The others do deserve a big screen!
I just saw Hidden Figures last night and loved it. Highly recommended.
Agree! Fantastic movie, with fantastic performances.
I’ve been wanting to see that one, thanks for the reminder!
Wearing the exquisite DelRae Wit from (almost) the last of my decant. In some ways I appreciate that I have this in a limited supply, I think it forces me to be thoughtful about when I wear it and I savor it so much more. Or…maybe I’m just convincing myself I don’t need a full bottle! On a walk yesterday I noticed the Winter Daphne plants are just starting to bud…so exciting!
Ah, Wit. Love it.
I do wish she’d do travel sizes already!
Musc Ravageur body oil layered with EDP.
wow! very nice and the oil probably helps it wear longer too
you smell amazing!
Ah. You smell gorgeous!!
It was another hot , muggy night so once again we left all the doors and windows wide open. Before bed I sprayed some A La Nuit on my pillows and the jasmine scent mingled well with the night air. Yesterday’s nature blast was the combination of heady roses with eucalyptus from a stand of huge gum trees. I love the way big gum trees smell in hot weather, almost throbbing like hot engines. I tested Concrete again and like it more and more. Happy weekend! It will be spring before you know it!
What a great assortment of smells! We have eucalyptus in the San Francisco bay area but it doesn’t get hot enough to release much of a smell.
Oh! Such a lovely description!
Chypre Mousse in the cold weather, now and forever!
Ack! That’s another one I sniffed recently and was immediately intoxicated with. But the price! Ai-yi-yi! You smell especially wonderful!
I considered wearing this.
Sacrebleu Intense. Jungle l’Elephant is one of my favorite winter perfumes but I can’t wear it to work (preschool!) so I’m substituting. Spicy but not over the top! Happy Friday everyone!
I’d like to think your preschoolers would like Jungle l’Elephant. It’s the adults one has to worry about. 😉
You smell marvelous.
TGIF
Glossier Body Hero Shower Oil
JM Midnight Black Tea
Pleine Lune Tea
You are trying to trick me with the teas again, aren’t you?
AG Ambre Fetiche from the most recent swap meet.
Good one!
Yes, especially in the far drydown! ????
That is one of my super-cold weather scents.
I believe you. This has a lot of staying power, and I’m not so sure but that it wears me for the first few hours of wear.
I have been too busy this week to look at much of anything and did not know the theme. Today I am wearing Dyptique’s Eau de Sens. I love this scent any time of the year, however, I don’t think it gets as much attention from perfumistas as I think it should.
this one is wonderful, you smell great!
Yeah, that one seems to be a real sleeper.
Another week that went flying by! I’m wearing one of my winter favorites, Le Maroc pour Elle. Sticks on me forever and I catch little wafts until I wash it off.
You smell great! It’s very potent and heady.
I love this one. Don’t hear about it much but what a great choice!
In my big, chewy, sticky incense— Terveer Incense, which is so obscure the brand is not even listed on Fragrantica. I think I got it at Barney’s a few years ago. Great winter scent.
( Adopts serious tone ) Did you find any licorice-rose perfume combinations after your experiment? Also…in reply to your question re. Helen Scott’s grave. She has a fabulous harbour view but it would have been even better back in the 1890s, before the native bush regenerated.
From flip to serious in a single bound?
Naw. No licorice rose scents that I could find. I am not big on layering… but my mistake did get me thinking/sniffing.
I can’t think of a cemetery that I have been to that looks down on a harbor. But I can picture it. It is easy to imagine Helen’s children visiting her grave site, sitting down with some apples and cheese for a chat and to enjoy the view.
I am wearing some yummy yummy Coromandel today. I’m about halfway through my decant and I think I’m going to need a bottle at some point.
Smelling great!
I am wearing TF Tobacco Vanilla, a winter favorite.
This last summer I saw the Dior exhibit in Richmond Virginia. An interesting comment on Mitzah and her wrist scarf. At one point she attempted suicide and badly cut her wrist. After that she was extremely ashamed of the scars and covered them up with a narrow scarf. She rarely told anyone why she wore the scarf and it became a signature look for her.
Oh how sad. I know nothing about her, but I hope she got help.
SOTD = L’AP Safran Troblant
10 lovely spritzes to last me all day. This is 1 of 10 perfumes for which I bought an FB back-up.
Although I have not tried it, i would layer ST with Mohur extrait to femme it up or Puredistance M to butch it up. What are your favorite layering combos with ST?
I love your lavishness with the sprays!
After a cooler day yesterday, it’s warmer again today. That, coupled with a hair appointment this morning, means I won’t go with anything too heavy. I haven’t decided yet, but I think something incensey would be appropriate, I find that incense works well in all temperatures. I have a little bit left in a sample of Jovoy’s La Liturgie des Heures.
Agree about incense, & hope it was a good hair day!
Wearing The Different Company De Bachmakov today, my 31st birthday! I was born in the middle of a blizzard, which is exactly what this scent smells like to me. Just met with a general contractor for a consult on a bathroom renovation, then later going out for sushi and a bar crawl with the usual suspects. 🙂
Happy birthday Jackmannish! Enjoy your night out!
Happy birthday!
You smell great! That’s a wonderful scent. Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday and have loads of fun!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! and yay for sushi!
Happy Scented Birthday, Jackmannish! Sushi sounds great for a Friday evening dinner.
Happy birthday!!!!! Sushi and a bar crawl sounds wonderful!
Hope it was a wonderful evening!
Wearing Masque Milano Tango – a spicy amber with just a hint of flowers – just perfect for a colder sunny day.
Yesterday the person who asked me not to wear my another winter favorite – MdO’s Vanille – wasn’t supposed to be in the office, so I decided to take advantage of that. When arrived to the office, discovered that he had changed his mind and decided to come. The whole day I tried to stay clear of him, and there were no complaints but I’m still not sure if he didn’t notice it this time or just decided not to say anything.
I’ll see how it goes today with Tango: I’m wearing just a tiny bit of it, but we have 2 meetings in the same room… And did I mention he is my boss? Wish us (me & Tango) some luck.
Best of luck! Must be horrible working with the scent police.????
How could anyone be offended by MdO Vanille? My sympathies to you. Fortunately my boss loved perfume and complimented me often. He even bought me some.
I hope it went well today. We were chitchatting at work today, ranging from personal financial management to tools our firm makes available for stress relief (which had the opposite effect on me because I couldnt log in the first and last time I tried) to the Oscars to what movie we last saw at the movie theater (for me, it was when Tin Tin came out in 3D). Then one of them asked what was my hobby and I said Perfumes. There was shocked silence because they could not fathom how it could be a hobby. Anyway, I think I will get some mileage out of that in the coming months!
Ha! Love that reaction. Perfume is both a Hobby and a Lifestyle, yes? 😉
I can’t wait to hear the inevitable future comments on your bizarre hobby. 😉
When I sampled Tango I liked it very much and thought it was the most easygoing scent from Masque Milano. You’re doing your co-workers a favor by exposing them to something so wonderful. 😉
Wearing Aromatics Elixir.
I got a massively huge 3.4 oz bottle on sale (because it was older stock I believe – limited edition bottle too). I couldn’t resist the frosted bottle with a raised floral design embossed in the glass.
This amount is more than enough for 10 lifetimes but I should also wear it more often.
That is a gorgeous bottle. I think it’s been some years since it’s been out. Good for you!
Aromatics Elixir! You smell great. And your tall bottle sounds beautiful.
I remember years ago Clinique constantly gave out mini bottles of AE as part of their gift with purchase. I liked wearing AE but gave most of the minis away. I would leave them on the counter in the restroom at work with a little note saying “take me home, please.” They always disappeared. 🙂
Wearing Epic and will be going to see 12 Strong today.
Enjoy the movie!
I am wearing A la nuit, by Serge Lutens
All season favourite!
Its not particularly winter-ish this year here in The Netherlands, it feels more like a long extended autumn with grey skies, and lots of rain and wind. Its like this for years now.
I wonder if I will ever experience a real long winter here again…with frozen lakes and rivers to skate on….
But when it freezes I prefer vintage Opium or Black Orchid 🙂
A la Nuit is gorgeous in cold weather. However, I tend to wear it more in spring. Unfortunately it is so fleeting on me. It does not last more than 2 hours no matter if I bath myself on it.
Sun seems to have become a rarity, hasn’t it? And I love A la Nuit!
It’s Peanut Brittle Day? Yum, I’ll take some of that! SOTD = back in Samsara EdT. When something is right, it’s right. I’d call Samsara one of my Top 10 anytime.
You smell great Jalapeno!
SotD = L’air du desert marocain
Mmmmmm, just a dab. It’s miraculous.
I habitually favor transparent florals and colognes and cologne-adjacent scents, but my nose is slowly changing. I’m looking forward to reading everyone’s top choices for winter and broadening my scent horizons.
Have a great weekend, NST!
I can’t believe I forgot about LADDM in my best-of-winter line-up! SHAMEFUL! You smell wonderful.
thanks, Koyel!
It would be easy to choose 20 or more best of winter fragrances and still not run short of favorites. 🙂
Agreed!
You do smell amazing. I need to see if those cute minis are still for sale. Fingers crossed!
I had surgery to remove a cancerous area in my cervix, so no scent for me until just now.
I went for AA Herba Fresca – decidedly non-wintry, but the mint note helps no combat the nausea the anesthesia creates.
All is good, and no further treatment is to be required.
PSA: Regular pap smears save lives
So glad it was caught early, and wishing you the best. It’s been years since I’ve owned Herba Fresca– I’m sure you’re smelling fab.
Thank heavens you got treatment early enough!!!
Glad you’re OK!
That’s wonderful! Glad it went smoothly!
I’m glad you caught it quickly! I hope recovery goes smoothly with a lot of puppy snuggles for you.
Glad you are able to enjoy a light fragrance. Take care of yourself and relax with the puppies!
Wishing you a quick recovery!
Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery!
Oh, thank goodness it went well, and thank you for the reminder.
1) Sooooo late to the party! In Shalimar EdP because it is on theme and also just because I wanted to feel awesome today. I love all “Shalimars” so much. I’m lighthanded for work but about to go respray lol.
2) Thanks to much for the birthday wishes. I was reading them and really overcome with gratitude for this little corner of the internet! You all are so kind and warm and accepting…it’s almost overwhelming and very often the highlight of my day! I look forward to scrolling back and reading all the comments today.
3) We has “Office Olympics” today at my company in honor of the upcoming Olympics. Split into teams of 4 (about 15 teams) and competed in “swivel chair slolam”, “airport security sprint”, “biathalon relay” and “paper airplane dash”….y’all that was so much fun. My team got bronze and my non-athletic self was thrilled ha! I’m glad I found a good place to work when randomly moving across country.

Don’t know how I managed to post this twice. Sorry, Robin!
Happy belated birthday! I envy you your relationship with Shalimar—every version I’ve tried has gone musty on me, and I really want to love it. It smells so wonderful on other people! Congratulations on your bronze medal, as well.
I’m also extremely late to post today. Went with L’Ambre des Merveilles and enjoyed smelling like salted caramel all day.
You do smell wonderful.
I meant to post earlier but never got around to it. I was in an Excel training course all day and smelled wonderful in Shalimar EDT. I think the bottle is a little older. I like it a bit more than my newer (although 5 years old at this point) bottle.
If anything can make Excel more bearable, it’s a great perfume.
Enjoying one of my Top 10 of Winter: Roberto Cavalli Oro. This may be the first bottle I empty since falling down the rabbit hole, but I do have backups, and just bought a mini for display purposes. Warm and spicy and sweet, with a lovely apple note, and magnolia, which I only rarely can (I think) pick out.
It’s good to be back in the land of perfume appreciation. Since the beginning of December, I’ve had the flu (fortunately mild) and three separate colds. (What the heck, immune system? Normally you’re out starting fights for no reason at all.) I spent New Year’s Eve with my gentleman friend (hooray!), curled up on a couch with me coughing and him wheezing (boo!). As icing on the cake, he nearly died of an asthma attack earlier this month. I’m now afraid to wear L’Heure Bleue around him, despite the fact that he loves it and swears that perfume never triggers his asthma. Okay, enough whining. I hope you’ve all been (relatively) well. Off to see what I’ve got for the Freebiemeet!

Good morning and delurking after a couple of months of reading posts – I always love the top 10 scents, especially for winter because I don’t think I even have 10 – l’Instant by Guerlain is one I like in cold weather and it’s very office friendly – but also a tiny bit…boring. Torn if I should seek a bottle now that the sample’s used up. I like Stash in colder weather as well, but find that it’s easy to overspray. Anyways – always fun to read everyone’s favorites!
I go back and forth on L’Instant, too. It’s very pretty, but a little bit ladylike for my tastes. My decant isn’t gone yet, so I have a few more chances to make up my mind.
