Happy Pie Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hiram Green Slowdive (Kevin's review is coming up later today). Tea at the moment is Kusmi Troika.
Reminder: on 1/26, wear one of your "top 10 of winter" fragrances (unless it's summer where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of summer" scents)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the teapot is by Jaime Hayon for Kutani Choemon, and I am not sure if you can still buy it anywhere.
Lucky I have some blueberry pie for Pie Day!
My FIL is visiting and this morning I am having a breakfast of champions. Dosa with potato chaat, sambar dal soup and coconut chutney..washing it down with homemade chai tea. Ravi Shankar playing in the background..
Doctors appointments for me today and I am in Nocturnes by Caron
Stay dry, happy and warm
Awesome breakfast! Did your FIL make that for you?
yes he did….I have some doctors appointments this week so he came to help with the babies
Nocturnes!!! The closest to a signature scent for me…have had a vintage bottle in my rotation since 1983 when my first bottle was gifted to me by my best friend for a milestone birthday.
Are you wearing vintage or current formulation? I tried the current in the drugstore you recommended to me and I thought it was quite good.
I have never been lucky with Caron perfumes. This past weekend I put away from my cabinet almost half bottle of Nocturnes that I got last year in a swapmeet. At the beginning I enjoyed it and then I could not wear it anymore. The same with Nuit de Noel. They need to be rehomed. At least Parfume Sacre has worked for me so far. Let’s see for how long đ
Parfume Sacre is beautiful, I have a full bottle. It is my only FB Caron thanks to a generous NSTer.
My Nocturnes is from a sample…
Perfumelover, have you tried Caron pour homme? If you like lavender and vanilla is great..even though its marketed for men.
Yes, I finished a decant of Pour Homme last year, but I did not like it much. Agree that Parfume Sacre is wonderful. I am thinking about trying the Intense version later on. But for now, I will keep enjoying the original one.
Beside Parfum Sacre the only other one I swooned over was aimez moi
Pour Homme is a great relaxing scent
Wait..there is an intense version of Parfum Sacre…where have I been?
The Intense version is supposed to be more incensy and spicy, but very true to the original. Being an incense lover, I will eventually give it a try.
that all sounds so lovely!
I love your FIL! đ
I would have had the pie for breakfast! ????
I’m with you Scott! One of my favorite things about the holidays is pie for breakfast after.
My grandmother who lived on a farm in the days of horse drawn wagons and threshing gangs always said you “couldn’t expect a day’s work out of a man without a piece of pie for breakfast”.
My kind of gal ; )
eating a small spoonful of blueberry pie for my breakfast dessert. Tastes good with my morning chai tea
Love that! I grew up on an orchard and Mom and I would often have pie for breakfast – we made them with the fruit that fell under the trees and very little sugar. A la mode with a little yogurt instead of ice cream.
Yum.
Springpansy, you lived my dream childhood! I’ve always wanted to live on an orchard.
You smell great! And good luck with the appointments. đ
Yum your breakfast sounds wonderful!
I am so jealous of your breakfast!
I’m un-hoarding today in Guerlain Vol de Nuit Evasion from a small decant. It doesn’t have much in common with VdN except for the warm vanilla base. Pretty, peachy floral and it’s cheerful for this grey, rainy day.
hurrah for un-hoarding!
And after wearing a hefty dose today, donât feel like I need to replace it which is good since itâs dcâed.
SotD is Vetiver Extraordinaire.
More a spring/summer scent to me, so not really on theme, but I was in the mood for vetiver today!
Tea this afternoon is Kusmi BB Detox.
Great choice! Never better than with Vetiver.
Vetiver scents are my ‘no brainers’, when in doubt or in a hurry, I just grab a vetiver and everything turns out fine đ
You smell great Jiji!
Thank you, Robin!
I am in Cuir de Lancome, one of my favorite winter scents. I already had 2 compliments from co-workers early this morning and that makes me enjoy it even more.
Rainy but warm day today. No complaints.
You smell wonderful! I should wear that this week. Compliments are always nice ????
Thank you! It is a wonderful perfume and I do not reach for it as much as I should. Need to remedy that!
It is and you should ???? I should too, it’s high on the (long) list of “why don’t I wear this more often?”
Agree! Cuir de Lancome and Cuir de Russie are big leather favorites. I already moved them to the front of the cabinet so I can reach them easily. No more especial days to wear them. Everyday is special! đ
Same and same. I don’t think I’ve worn it once this winter.
It is time to… đ
I feel the same way about it!
You smell wonderful!
Thank you!
You smell just lovely!
Thank you! You also smell great in Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune!
????????????????
You are one of the best smelling people around – guaranteed.
Thank you Hannamon! đ You also smell terrific in Iris Ganache!
Going to have to try that one. I see it mentioned here a lot.
It is a shame that it was discontinued, however it can be still found in discounters and ebay. I can send you a sample if you want: monica67@aol.com.
Thanks, I’ll email you! I’d hate to blind buy…although if I didn’t like it, I’m pretty sure I could find a good home for it here. đ
I did a blind buy off eBay. No regrets.
Goldfield and Banks Wood Infusion.
Not familiar with it but like the name!
it’s an Australian brand.
Good morning CM8! What’s your imoression of Goldfield and Banks? Are there any that stand out?
Thus far it is the only scent I have sampled from this brand and I love it. There is something about it that reminds me of the earlier Jo Malones…it’s light and ethereal but not fleeting as I believe it might be parfum strength….to my nose it is similar to Jo Malone’s Orange Bitters with a bit more lavender and something different (I believe there is a note in there of a plant that is indigenous to an island whose name escapes me…I will research and get back to you). The brand is Australian so I am sure you have heard of them đ
Fraser Island, Queensland. Here is the info in case anyone is interested-
https://goldfieldandbanks.com/product/wood-infusion/
(no affiliation)
After reading the description I am thinking this one is right up your alley, Kanuka!
and the juice really is that color!!!
and it smells phenomenal on Mr. CM8 too!!!
It does sound right up my alley and I like the design of the bottles and the colour of the juice. A long time ago I went to Fraser island at the end of a month-long rock climbing holiday in Queensland. Must check out the perfume. Thank you!
Stash SJP – quite nice but definitely not groundbreaking
Beautiful teapot, although would not break my piggybank for it. My eyes are set on the HermĂšs’ one Robin posted months ago (which is as lovely in the flesh as in the pictures đ )
I love this teapot, but would not break my bank for it either. I have never seen any of the Hermes in person, glad to hear they look as good in real life!
I’ll be wearing Stash this week as well. You smell great.
Love that teapot! It’s so cute. I’m enjoying one of my winter favs- Organza Indecence. So sad bc not much left in my bottle. ????
I have a bottle of it that I never wear (if I can find it, that is), one with the funny shape. I will be happy to send it to you. e-mail me as cfreeland followed by quadruple 9’s at yahoo.
I did find it! So let me know.
Goodness, that is so kind of you! I’ll email you.
You smell great, and Calypso, what a sweet thing to do.
Thank you, and that really is incredibly sweet of her!
JM Myrrh & Tonka today. It’s warm, cozy, work-friendly, and an easy choice for those mornings when I need to just grab something and get out the door.
You smell lovely today!
You smell fab.
Enjoying the cozy-smooth-sexy incense of Andy Warhol Silver Factory today. Lots of snow in Minneapolis! I pushed two cars out of being stuck in my neighborhood last night (my husband’s and a stranger’s) so I am basically feeling like Superwoman, assuming Superwoman’s back is usually a little creaky the next day.
Your snow made our news! It rained here all day yesterday and finally turned to snow about 8:30 but we only got about an inch.
You smell wonderful, I’ve missed SF since I finished my decant last year. And good for you, being a superwoman, when you live with snowy winters it helps to have and to be a good neighbor. Hope your back doesn’t creak too badly!
Chasing gray skies away with Lavande 44. ???? at first sniff as lavender scents rarely work for me.
Great choice Robin!
Pulling things together for my first freebiemeet!!! Yippee!! Sharing is caring.
I want to participate in that too, but how do you protect and send out your bottles if they are a bit older and perhaps 3/4 full? Could use some advice.
Iâve saved packaging from other purchases and Amazon deliveries. I think that might work.
I have always just wrapped mine in bubble wrap and put it in a box where it fits well and doesn’t jostle around so much. I haven’t had any break.
Same here.
You can also seal the bottles with parafilm.
I use Glad Press n Seal as a parafilm substitute available at the supermarket, and often “seal” a layer of bubblewrap to the bottle, or just seal little decants together. (No affiliation, probably obviously)
I have never used Glad Press n Seal, but it sounds great. I will look for it, especially to seal decants and samples.
Genius! Thanks for the amazing idea.
I also wrap in parafilm…the cap and sprayer at least.
Echoing what others have said: lots of Parafilm and tape and bubble wrap I’ve saved from packages I’ve received or that I’ve purchased from a Uhaul store. Boxes if they’re FBs, padded envelopes if they’re decants. I pack things tightly so they don’t have room to roll around, and tend to tape smaller decants together for the same reason. Good luck!
Parafilm is hard to find, imo. And pricey on Amazon. Currently I use electrical tape. I like it bc it’s easy to unwrap then rewrap decants and samples. I’ve used plumbers tape as well, but it can be hard to rewrap once you’ve unwrapped it. ????
I buy it on ebay.
Oh, thanks! I never thought to look for it there. ????
SOTD is Cuir Cannage, a winter favorite that hannahmom mentioned over the weekend.
It reminds me of Lisbon ( where I bought it) and the shockingly handsome and flirty Dior rep who threw samples and minis in by the handful đ
Oh – I like the perfume too đ
Powdery leather, and a bit of raunch on my skin
Color me envious! I just have a large-ish decant from STC – no visit to Lisbon, no flirty handsome sales rep. đ Not that the lovely people at STC aren’t greatly appreciated!
That sounds like a fun time at Dior!????
Chanel Cuir de Russie today, am embarrassed I donât remember who sent me this in a prior swap meet. Iâm not usually a leather girl, but getting my hair cut and my stylist isnât a fan of florals, I like to wear something she will enjoy smelling!
How considerate of you! It usually seems to me there are so many other smells at the hair salon that no one would notice if I had anything on. (In fact I am kind of demanding about sniffing any products my stylist wants to put on my head because some of them smell so vile.)
We go back 20 years and just recently discovered we both love perfume- although I donât think she is as obsessed as I am. It is hard to smell over all of the other smells but she always wants to know what I have on!
You smell terrific! Another of my winter favorites!
One of the best. You smell perfect.
Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune. This is my first winter as a perfume novice, so I don’t have favorites yet, but i’m enjoying the tropical fruits this week.
you smell great! that is a wonderful AA and so is Lys Soliel
In Bendelirious today, nearing the end of the bottle. A question: anyone know of a good perfume personality quiz? Something more substantial than a Cosmo-type one.
Frau Tonis had one on their website, to match you with their scents…but I am unfamiliar with a more general model.
And Pinrose has one, and Frederic Malle used to have something like a quiz but don’t think it’s there anymore.
Needing something simple(r) today so a good moment for DS & Durga’s Sir. It’s not super-tenacious, but it’s crisp and bright and will last long enough to get me thru an ibuprofen-provoking morning.
Is it Friday yet? (Good morning all.)
The security guy in my building calls today “Hump Day Eve” … if that helps any. đ
LOL Y E S, definitely using that. Tell him he needs to trademark that phrase!
Ha, that’s funny!
Wearing some of my treasured bottle of Iris Ganache.
I am currently impersonating an iris flavoured chocolate, and enjoying every minute of it.
That sounds like something I need it my life! I bet you smell amazing!
Still scent free thus far, but planning on TF Shanghai Lily post workout on a cold, dark, wet morning. Also just added the Kusmi Troika to my Amazon cart, along with Prince Vladimir. I’ve been meaning to try Kusmi for quite a while now, but have been working my way through (and enjoying) the Numi range locally. Also participating in pie day with leftover cauliflower and shallot quiche for lunch, so ticking all the boxes today! ; )
I have mixed feelings about Kusmi and frequently regret the ones I buy before the tin is out. My favorite might still be Violette, but it isn’t something I want to drink all that often.
Ah – good to know. Maybe I should rethink my cart then? What do you like for a mid-price range tea brand? I love Mariage Freres (the admittedly few I’ve sprung for), but they are on the higher end of my price spectrum, and I drink an awful lot of tea. My favorite Numis are no longer stocked locally, and I’m a bit bored with Tazo. I’ve been enjoying Taylors Lapsang Souchong and am looking for a good green jasmine – Taylors is a bit light on the jasmine . Any ideas? Tx!
No! Don’t rethink it! I’m quite fond of many Kusmis. Have you tried Mighty Leaf? Not super pricey, but in my opinion, muuuuuuch better than Tazo. (For context, I am fond of many Numis and Mariages Freres and Palais des Thes, though I tend to go for not-famous tea companies that have super cute packaging.)
Oh! I forgot about Mighty Leaf. I have seen them out somewhere somewhere nearby but never tried them. Will check them out next time I come across them, for sure. Thanks for the recommendation Koyel!
Mighty Leaf! My current favorite is organic African Nectar. Itâs available in Target.
I’m not much of a Kusmi fan either. I got a set of the Russian teas in mini sizes, which is just a great way of figuring out whether you like them or not. Some are ok, but on the whole I’m not thrilled. Now Mariage FrĂšres is another story all together.
Yes, it was the Russian teas for Kusmi that I was most interested in, so appreciate your input. Will pass on them for now, I think.
I would say absolutely try Kusmi because the style might suit you — they have some sampler tin sets that are worth a look. I just wouldn’t buy lots of large tins until you’ve tried them! I probably have about 6-8 tins at the moment and I just find I go through them too slowly because I reach for other things first. I like to have the Violette on hand — nobody else makes such a good violet tea — and I have come around to the buffalo grass one. The rest I think I will not replace.
I often regret Mariage Freres purchases too, but there are more MF teas I love than Kusmi. If you like flavored teas, MF and Palais des Thes are both nice.
I am a big fan of Upton for “regular” unflavored teas. I like Tea Trekker too, but they are not cheap.
Harneys is also a good middle of the road company, and they have a nice Yin Hao jasmine.
I’m a fan of Upton and Harney’s, I’ve enjoyed several, the jasmine in particular which is quite nice.
Taylors of Harrogate has a lovely Rose black tea but I’ve been unable to find it.
Lupicia tea is wonderful, their Paradise green tea is my favorite, enjoyable both hot and iced (if iced, add a splash of lime juice).
I do like Taylors but haven’t seen the rose black tea at Whole Foods… just did a quick search and they have it on Amazon. Thanks for the suggestions!
Thanks Robin! I’m going to pick up a sample set of Palais des Thes and check out web sites for the other brands you mentioned. I do like Harney’s holiday tea, so will branch out a bit there also.
I really like Kusmi St. Petersburg. Their black rose tea, which is only sold loose in their shops, is very good too.
Thanks all – Lots of new teas to try!
SOTD Lorenzo Villoresi Garofano. Honeyed carnation with ALL THE SPICES. Nothing warms me up better. đ
That sounds right up my street, tell me it’s not discontinued?
I think I got mine from Twisted Lily a year ago, but I don’t see it there now. I do see some bottles on Amazon, though!
Yum, love that one!
Wow, 2nd that!
Oh that’s such a good carnation perfume! There should be more of them.
Agreed!
Wow, that sounds delicious. I’ll have to look it up!
I’m in one of my cool weather favorites, Scherrer 2.
Ohh – I am a huge fan of the original, but the 2 does not do well on me at all. I may have used the phrase ” hot chemical mess ”
(Don’t hate me)
Let me see if I still have my decant, and if so, I would LOVE to send it to you.
I understand that everyone’s skin and tastes are different. If you’ve got a decant of Scherrer 2 that you want to get rid of I’ll be glad to take it. If you will send me your email, I’ll send you my address. My email address is priscillaemrich at the yahooooo.
Today’s SOTD is L’ Artisan’s LâExtrait de Parfum MĂ»re et Musc and matching body oil, layered with L’ Artisan’s Vanille.
You must smell like a fabulous dessert!
That combo sounds fantastic!
I am wafting berries, vanilla and musk, perfect for today’s student orientation. đ
SOTD: sampling Parfait de Roses by Lancome
This is from a new collection by Lancome and I’d say it’s a Rose Jam for adults. Boozy, jammy rose.. quite sweet but I love it. Lasts and lasts and makes me feel girly, but a sophisticated girly. Would love to see this one offered in a split đ
Sounds promising!
I like this one too, but I find it very similar to Aramis Calligraphy Rose, and CR is a LOT cheaper.
Interesting. I saw that people picked Calligraphy as a similar fragrance on Fragrantica, but I didn’t make that connection having tried both now. Too bad for me!
They didnât smell similar to me either. Iâve heard Parfait compared to tresor Midnight Rose or whatever itâs called. Same house.
Had a craving for Apres L’Ondee this morning, so I gave in. Not very wintery, but then again neither is the weather since the past few days. Happy to pretend it’s spring for a little while.
My decant of AL’O is not going to last much longer. It’s on the short list for my next FB purchase. Now, how to make that list a bit shorter…?
I think Jessica included MlO on her top 10 of winter once!
Good morning Y’all!
Back in Chamade today…..absolutely love this one! That whole Guerlinade thing is awesome….
That one is a beauty huh?
I’m not sure how to take this, but a nurse just came in the pharmacy and said that it smells like “a nursery, like clean diapers” in here……LOL!
Is it me? I’m not sure…… đ
OOO I got that response once from a co-worker when wearing SSS Lieu de Reves…i think it was the heliotrope note that came off on my skin like baby powder
It’s you đ
House twin–I’m wearing Vega today!
SotD is Coco edp. I havenât worn this one in awhile. Like most of the Chanelâs I wear, they always make me feel more sophisticated and glamorous than I really am. I can only imagine what the vintage Parfum is like.
I have a vintage parfum purse spray I donât reach for. Itâs potent – I donât think it has turned, I bought it unopened. Iâd be happy to send it to you. Beas dot Beverly attt geee mail dot commm.
I bet it is potent- will email you!
Chanel makes me feel fancy too. If someone asks what I’m wearing, I feel silly saying Chanel in my salt stained boots. You smell wonderful!
Thanks! Lol, yes, I will be smelling fancy today running errands in my sorels.
I saved a teeny bit of the vintage parfum and it is absolutely everything you’d expect it to be, and more! ????
Diaghilev today. Found a discovery size bottle on eBay for a good deal and even better shipping price so Iâm looking forward to that.
And what do you think of it? Those Roja Doves are so outrageously expensive that I don’t even WANT to like them, but I’d be curious to hear what others think of them!
Itâs wonderful. To me, it is a more polished vintage Opium, smoother. Some say itâs similar to vintage Mitsouko, but not so much to me. The price is way too much, though.
I’m wearing Atelier Jasmin Angelique today. In an effort to nail down a fb purchase with tax refund. I had two Little Debbie cakes for breakfast, does that count as pie?
Little Debbie’s count as pie, and as an awesome breakfast too. đ
SotM = Bogue MEM
Just a dab from a sample is enough to get me going today. I prefer MEM in cold weather. The lavender top note wafts nicely with the lavender essential oil I put on my feet this morning.
You’re a fabulous smelling crew, NST. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Love the dry down. You smell wonderful!
thanks, Petunia! I have to agree, MEM’s dry down is eyes-rolling-back-in-my-head good. đ
Oh thanks for mentioning/wearing this one, you smell awesome!
Reminds me I need to find my sample and wear it again soon đ
Same here, Jiji. I participated in a split of this, and need to use it!
yes to MEM! Hope you have a chance to enjoy it soon. đ
Diorissimo for me today.
Fantastic!
Yay, that always warms my heart đ
I’m in MAC’s Shadescent Creme de Nude. It’s lovely and a no-brainer for work environment. Wearing it b/c it’s a bit of blank canvas. Driving home at lunch to check for a delivery from Spain via the Bay of Dior Midnight Poison. Gamble since I’ve never smelled it before. Gamble b/c of fakes. Took months researching, waiting for good one to pop up. If it’s bad, live and learn. If it’s good, I’ll be showing back up at work wearing a less than appropriate scent. ; )
Fingers crossed it’s real and you love it!
Toes too!
If you hate the Dior I’d be willing to take it off your hands. đ I love that stuff and have been eyeing bottles as well.
Vanille Tonka, as an ode to vanille, winter and Patricia de NicolaĂŻ, one of my perfume heroes. I always forget how wonderful it is.
someone sent me a small decant of that one and I really adored it
Scent twins today! I read through all the comments to see if anyone else was wearing it today đ it’s such a wonderful vanilla.
SOTD is SL Clair Gris. To be honest, this is my favourite for a foggy day, not just in winter. And it has definitely been foggy here yesterday and today.
There’s a poll! Scents for a foggy/overcast day. Gris Clair definitely fits the bill in this category.
We’re promised rain tomorrow (so at least there will be an overcast) so I was just thinking about an appropriate perfume for that. Gris Clair is a good fit – thank you for the idea.
You smell wonderful! GC is my favorite fog and/or rainy day perfume too.
House twins – Iâm in Chergui!
Codename is B683. A perfume by Quentin Bisch for a French couture designer Marc-Antoine Barrois.
Me likes the perfume a lot so a review is in the making.
I tried this last week. It was nice but did not make my credit card levitate out of my wallet.
Even though I woke up pretty early for a day off, I’ve been pretty lazy but with a lot on my mind. Annoyed with the post office because my W-2 came in the mail but not my STC package. The post office said that it had no access but I had gotten the rest of my mail. Yeah, I don’t get it. I think that I shall file my taxes in the later part of March. Today I am wearing vintage Mitsouko.
PO obviously has their priorities all wrong!
It looks like Vanilla week is turning into a Vanilla month for me. DSH Vanilla Botanique. I am not sure about the Botanique part, but the fragrance is amazing
Vanilla month would work for me too! I’ll need to look that one up. I don’t have much experience with DSH scents.
This is how out of it I was this morning: I read “Pie Day” and thought, “Is it March already?”
SOTD is a winter love (all year round, really), Chergui!
Ha! That is what I thought as well!
Yum! A favorite of mine too! You smell awesome!
Smelling great!
You smell great!
I heard about Pie Day on the radio on my way to the office, and I had the exactly same thought. Of course, once at my computer, I read that the other one is a Pi Day, even though it get interpreted the good way đ
I live in a small town in the rural Midwest with a sizeable Amish population. Around here, everyday is pie day đ
Nice! (If not a bit dangerous đ )
Hey, twin! You smell great. ????
Meeee four! So confusing.
Happy Pie Day, indeed!
1) In Boucheron, because of course.
2) Am looking at real estate (again) and I think it is a weird mugs game. I bought my home in 2016 for $215K, and I am happy I did. Now the place down the way from me- smaller and not as well kept- is asking $325K. This is nuts.
3) Rain is back, but there was a sunny break in the evening yesterday, which was so beautiful! So my outfit is a shirt tunic, cardigan, skinny jeans and sneaker boots- perfect layers.
Wow, that is nuts!
It’s NUTS! And I have no idea how these prices justify themselves in anyway in such a short period of time.
Because it’s been hot and muggy I’ve been going for early morning walks around the local cemetery . Yesterday the scent of roses was overpowering. There are a few damask roses and they are rich and spicy. To get from the cemetery back to the playing fields i have to cut right across the grave of Helen Scott who died aged 41 in 1899. I have no idea who she is and her grave is in a bad way. Because it doesn’t feel right to just walk over her grave I usually stop and talk to her a moment and describe the scents or the roses or how many rabbits are hopping about on the grass. She’s on a slope with a good harbour outlook, in a beautiful quiet corner. Yesterday I left her some bright pink petals. I wonder what she was like? Wearing Ostara at the moment.
http://www.northerncemetery.org.nz/burial/8178/bio
Just found this. Gosh, she’s beautiful. In a weird twist…she is from the Bealey family and a place called Bealey Spur ( a beautiful mountain-bush track, part of the original Bealey run) was one of my father’s favourite places for tramping etc. and we used to go there together a lot. Some of his ashes are scattered there. Spooky.
1) She was very beautiful in life, and had 5 children in her 16 year marriage.
2) I am so sure she appreciates your conversations!
She was beautiful but she has sad eyes in the picture, maybe from illness? Anyway, thanks for sharing your lovely experience.
I can’t begin to convey how touching and beautiful it is that you do this.
Very touching!
Thank you for sharing. Ostara is perfect for your talk with Helen.
Well that was a fun five googling Helen Gardner Bealey. . . amazing how much was readily available about her, or well her husband. Thank you for the story and the images. Am I understanding correctly that from her grave you get a view of a harbor? Gosh I love that thought!
Thank you for sharing. And for taking time out of your day; such a beautiful thing to do.
Sounds like a pleasant resting place. Iâm sure she appreciates your attentions. đ
Cute teapot. SOTD is Calling All Angels by April Aromatics.
I’ve used up my sample of that from their sample set and am mulling over the cost of a FB. It’s pretty pricey so I haven’t gone for it yet.
I bought the travel size directly of the AA website. I’ve barely dented the travel spray as it doesn’t require a big application. Just something to consider.
I think that it is 15 mls and a little less than $100 USD.
Iâm in six sprays of Chergui. Looks like itâs go big or go home day.
Yâall have a good one! ????
Impressive. You smell great!
Smelling awesome.
Poivre 23, a decant which I put in the summer category in previous years, but this year have turned into a winter scent. Peppery, creamy and delightful.
It’s always fun to find winter faves work in summer and vice versa. Does it smell different in cold weather?
Poivre has always been a winter scent for me, due to all the labdanum in it. I like to layer it with Vanille 44 sometimes.
In Myrrh & Tonka. Not a favorite. I do like it better than when I first tried it. The problem is that I get the mothball-essence of lavender without the mint/floral that makes me love lavender from this one. Ever made a soup, like butternut squash, and it tastes okay but it still needs a few dashes of apple cider vinegar and Tabasco to set it just right? That is how I feel about this perfume. It needs a dash of something. Stewed fruit? Powder? Leather?
I hate it when they re-engineer the molecules to leave out the best bits.
Taklamaken today from an very generous NSTer. Perfect weather for it- rainy, dreary, cold. Officially over it????
You smell wonderful!
It doesn’t get any easier. Just sayin’.
This is why I could not live in the PNW.
I have not done anything from the community project this week as I am still sampling my recent Luckyscent order. I’m a bit peeved that they substituted Ummagumma for my requested Feu Secret. I had already tried Ummagumma and it was a no-go. Anyway, today’s sample is Rundholz 03.Apr.1968, a twisting ride on an incense roller coaster. Sometimes it’s sweet, sometimes it’s dry, sometimes it’s fruity. Very fun to wear.
Luckyscent did that to me one time too, probably just a mistake. But I emailed them about it because it was a sample order that I’d paid for and they made it right.
Feu Secret smells slightly different every time I wear it. It’s truly lovely.
Funny. I tried to put a sample of ummagumma in my luckyscent cart recently and it was out of stock. Probably because they were giving it to people who didn’t want it! lol
I love that Rundholz!
I’m Edward Bess Genre today. I loooove this one. It reminds me of Cuir Ottoman, which I also love. I may actually like Genre better. When I get home I am going to spray one on each arm for comparison. I love leathers/suede all the time but even more in winter.
Today is my Love’s birthday. I made him breakfast (which is a big deal for me because I usually get up just in enough time to do my hair and throw clothes on for work lol) and have a nice dinner planned- steak, lobster, asparagus, etc. My birthday is Thursday so we split the difference and go out for our bdays on the 24th haha.
Happy birthday to you both! Have fun!
Thank you!
Isn’t it gorgeous? I also love La Femme Boheme and In A Scent. They all share that dry woody papery base.
Enjoy your bday celebrations!
I will definitely be seeking out the others to try. Genre is really great!
Nice, happy birthdays!
Happy birthday to you both!
I’m in need of some suggestions… I will be spending the rest of this week in meetings all day, 30 people in a conference room. Joy. So my favorite winter scents are Right Out (much too much for long-term close quarters). Need to figure out what I should wear that will last all day but in a subtle sort of way. What would you pick?
I can’t remember. Are you in the Neela Vermiere camp or not? If so, I’d suggest one of hers… Mohur? Pichola? They are unusual, elegant, and they last.
l’Eau d’Hiver might work…
The Chanel flankers for #5 might be good, I think they’re soft and nice.
Any of the Chanel les Exclusifs or Dior Privees or Hermessences! Safran Troublant is wintery but sheer enough that it might be ok. A week of meetings sounds like the worst of things!
Sounds horrid, my sympathies. Guerlain Encens Mythique is low sillage but good longevity on me.
Floris Honey Oud for this warm sunny day. In general, neither honey nor agarwood work for me but I enjoy wearing this perfume.
Just heard on the radio that Delta Airlines is changing rules for bringing “service” animals on board and I’m not sure how I feel about it: on one side, it’s good that they’ll stop people who abuse that “emotional support” angle, but on the other, I’m afraid that it’s people who really need those pets would suffer.
Honey Oud was a blind buy when you did the split. I enjoy it immensely and might consider a fb purchase in the future.
I have to say I know people who have gotten ‘service animal’ vests for their (incredibly ill-behaved) pets just so they can bring them anywhere; anyone can buy that stuff on the internet, no questions asked. It’s unfortunate that those who abuse the system are making problems for those who have legitimate needs.
I am wearing vintage Coco edp. I had a rough night yesterday at the emergency room for MIL till 2 A.M. and saw the worst and the best.
I saw a policeman bringing in a homeless person and giving him life advice for half an hour, I couldn’t believe how nice he was , I was going to congratulate him but then I was shy , then I saw the unbelievable bad state of our hospitals and how fragile our mind is, that we can loose all our memories (most of the patients including my MIL had dementia, alzheimer).
I decided to use up all my best perfumes that I was keeping for some better day, I think this will be my perfume related New Year resolution.
Hope your MIL is doing better. And yes, do not save your best perfumes for special occasions. Everyday is special. Enjoy them now when you can. That is what I have been doing since last year…
Sorry to hear about your stressful night đ hope she’s doing better.
Hope you’re all feeling better today. The night shift in the ER can be eye-opening, that’s for sure. Years ago, I shadowed a friend of mine on her night shift as the first person you see in the ER – I thought I might be interested in that work, but quickly realized it wasn’t for me. Enormous respect for those who do it: EMS, cops, nurses, docs, techs, everyone.
And you smell grand in that vintage Coco!
Hope you are getting good rest tonight Hera, and that MIL is better.
I hope you got some rest. You are so right to wear your best perfumes, save nothing for a « special occasion » – being alive and healthy is precious. Healing prayers for your MIL.
I’m wearing Lea, a winter fave. Simple powdery almond and vanilla musk. I realized I have a few bottles that fill this need: Lea, Farnesiana, and L’Erbolario Mandorla. I can’t really see getting rid of any of them so I’ll just be well stocked in this category.
Oooh ooh! I think I need to try this! Is it similar to Mandorla? I have a decant of the L’Erbolario and LOVE the powdery almond opening, but then it goes all mothball nasty on me. Do I need to try Lea?
I looove Lea! I havenât tried the Mandorla, but for me Lea is all about the almond. It is just on the verge of being sweet-but isnât- for me anyway. I can also wear it in warm weather. It is one of my favorite perfumes ever. Luckyscent used to carry it but it has been discontinued.âčïž
You smell lovely!
Sitting at the gate for my flight back to NYC. Stopped in duty free thinking they might have Elisa Pâs latest scent but nope. So, each wrist has JM French Lime Blossom and the top of my wrist near thumb has Chanel No 19 EdP. I so rarely see the latter…almost always EdT it seems. I think I prefer the edp
Hoping For space for my bag. Iâd prefer not to gate check. I love that Jet Blue goes out of Intl terminal here. At this time of day itâs an incredibly short security line.
So much for that. Had to gate check. ????????????
Hopefully your bag will come off the plane first!
Thanks. Hope so too. I actually fired off an email as soon as I sat down expressing my concern that the gate agents flatly lied about overhead space. There was plenty left. The on-board crew seemed surprised that we were told there was none. They actually unnecessarily created a logjam on the jetway.
bleargh, a crowded jetway is no fun, that’s awful. Good on you for sending an email expressing concern.
Safe flight home!
Smelling good đ
Wearing winter faves this week. Yesterday Bois Farine, today Byredo 1996.
Two great smelling days !
Love 1996, you smell great!
Wearing the last (very concentrated) dregs of a few years old Cuir Beluga decant. There’s always been something about this that doesn’t *quite* work for me, though it’s really really close. Happy to be finishing off the decant before it’s too late, though.
Everyone is in a “use it” mood lately — glad you finished one off !
Now that my DS & Durga Sir has blown off, by and large, from before, I’m just wearing some straight up diluted vetiver. Building next door is getting jackhammered like all get out and I need something calming to counteract my urge to jump out the window.
Ugh — hope they’ve knocked it off by now and you are relaxing!
I’m having trouble processing the idea of Pie Day in January, but I’ll get over it. I’m in one of my first loves, Safran Troublant. Perfect in any weather đ I’ve developed quite a heavy hand with this one–I gave myself a solid six sprays or so. As a result, it still smells good six hours later, but I think it’s on its way to disappearing. I just do not know how to make ST last any longer on my skin.
I always thought ST should come in a body butter.
Mmmm that would be amazing. Maybe I should make one for myself!
Wearing my original sample of Biblioteca de Babel from my first ever Luckyscent order. Fueguia definitely reformulated their line because this one doesn’t smell the same as it does now. I prefer the reformulated actually, which is a delicious gingersnap scent. This one is sharper and not sweet at all. Doesn’t really do anything for me.
I hope your experience with Luckysent was great! (No affiliation) their customer service is tops!
*luckyscent
hmm sounds like it needs a resniff!
In L’Instant.
Not feeling well today…stomach is off and I came home from work early.
I am reporting to a new manager at work and on a high-profile project that is under great scrutiny right now. The joy. đ I think I have a minor stomach bug but am also pondering if the stress is getting to me…I usually have a stomach of steel. Not to be confused w/ Abs of Steel. đ
Oh no — do hope you’ll get the stress under control, She-ra. (And get rid of the stomach bug, of course.)
Feel better soon. Sending calming thoughts your way.
Hope you feel better soon!
Late to the party, but like the saying goes, “Better late than never”!
My SOTD is Modern Muse Chic from Estee Lauder. I don’t consider this a winter fragrance, more or so whenever the mood strikes me to wear it. I really appreciate the EL line of fragrances. They are well done in my opinion.
SOTD = Serge Lutens Chergui
Whenever I wear this (not often enough), my brain converts Chergui into a verb as in â.Did you chergui?â
For those who didnât like this on first try. I say try it again and spray way more. My first time trying this was the equivalent of two delicate spits and it smelled like bug spray (yucky). I decided to go all out abd the next thing I knew, i ordered a tester bottle from Fragracenet!
I should probably wear it soon while I have some winter left đ
SOTD- Lush Rose Jam body wash, followed by Argan body creme and Tauer’s Rose Flash.
I wanted a nice fresh clean & Spring like vibe ….
Feels good!.
Will come back to read later, but I am joining Robin in Slowdive. Itâs been on for about 6 hours. Lots of honey, some tobacco and tuberose. Not sure I need another honey scent but itâs very well done.
