Monday! Plus, Hot Sauce Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m wearing Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Fumée d’Or, one of the fragrances she released in conjunction with the Denver Art Museum's Brilliant: Cartier in the 20th Century exhibit.
Reminder: on 1/26, wear one of your "top 10 of winter" fragrances (unless it's summer where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of summer" scents)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Cartier "Earrings with engraved stones, 18K white gold, set with aquamarines, tanzanites, moonstones, onyx and 82 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 0.68 carats", $84,000.
Taking a long Slowdive from Hiram Green. Lots of honey/beeswax.
Hope your Monday is off and rolling well!
I think I may need to try this…..
This one is at the top of my wishlist. A perfect choice for Monday!
I hope you like Slowdive. It’s not my favorite from Hiram but I still find it great.
I wore this yesterday. You smell great!
Slowdive was mostly honey and beeswax on me as well.
It was a nice experience but I dont think Id want to wear it on a regular basis. But I am glad I have a sample. 🙂
Same for me!
Someone mentioned it reminded them of SSS Bee’s Bliss. Now that I have no chance of trying that out, I want to try Slowdive more than ever!
It was me. It starts off quite animalic so I renamed it feral bee’s bliss.
After the power of suggestion last night, today’s a good morning for Teo Cabanal’s Oha. This is a vivid rose that really hits you like a javelin, perfect for a Monday already full of spears. Though it is incredibly petal-like, it works on my skin and the animalic dry-down fits well into any kind of day underfoot. It is definitely a perfume-Cholula. Happy Monday.
Oha is really attractive.
Enjoy Oha!
Oha is really beautiful! If I didn’t already have a ton of roses, I would have got a bottle of it. Just gorgeous!
Yeah! And in the cold it really seems to bloom. Out of your plethora of roses, what’s your go-to?
I know this is really late, but maybe you’ll see it. Winter go to rose is tough b/c there are so many dark roses to choose from. My best roses that I always love are Caron Parfum Sacre, OJ Ta’if, Guerlain Nahema, FM La Fille de Berlin, AG Ce Soir ou Jamais, Guarlain Rose Barbare, Miller Harris Rose en Noir.
This sounds good to me. Will put it on my to-try list sunce I’m a rose lover. I’ve only ever tried Alahine and Julia from the line.
House cousin in Alahine today – hi!
I’m wearing Shalimar edp today because I wasn’t able to squeeze it into vanilla week, and because it’s definitely a top 10 winter scent for me.
It is for sure a top 10 for winter. You smell wonderful!
Ah, I should join you later this week!
Twins, I’m in Shalimar Light. I’ll be wearing the EdP later this week!
I will also be joining you later this week in Shalimar.
Wow…those earrings.
I am going to be in 31 RC EDT shortly.
Also I have picked an “amount” for perfume spending this year of $100 a month or $1200 for the year to include FBs, splits, decants…the whole enchilada. There was no particular science behind this amount and I don’t think I’ve actually come close to spending this amount on fragrance in previous years but we shall see what happens in 2018. I was paying Xmas bills for gifts, etc. online this weekend…and thinking…hmm, how did I spend so much?…and how sad none of this was perfume-related spending! 😉 Funny how the mind works.
That’s my perfume budget too! I rarely spend it all but I do feel so much more freedom knowing that I have budgeted for this, so I can not feel guilty about spending what I do spend.
Great idea! Budgets really help you prioritize. All those $15 and $30 purchases add up quickly. I haven’t picked a # yet, but you’ve inspired me to do so.
I think I might set a budget AFTER my trip to Paris this spring….
That’s a nice round number! If you sell something, does what you net get added to the kitty?
I am wearing Ormonde Woman, which I wear only a few times a year when it’s cold and which I love enormously but only sparingly.
scent twins today, although I have been wearing it about 80% of the time now that it is winter
“Enormously but sparingly” is such a good way to describe those OJ Woman feelings…
You smell great!
Was going through some samples and decided on vintage Paco Rabanne La Nuit, which was instant H A T E when it was launched: it took me decades to try it again (and instantly love it) — soapy rose up top, then more and more glamorously filthy as the hours tick by, all civet and oakmoss and leather.
And then I had an idea for a community wear! I don’t think this has been done, Robin, although you’d know better than I would: Opposite Day. La Nuit on a bright sunshiny day, Matin Calin in the afternoon, Voile d’Ete in the depth of winter or Winter Delice in the middle of July, Aromatics In White when you’re dressed all in black.
Love it! Ariana Grande Sweet Like Candy…for when you feel like anything but.
Great idea! We did a reverse hemisphere project but this is much more specific.
Fun idea!
Clinique Happy when you are really worried? ????????????
I love La Nuit too! You smell wonderful.
No 19 Poudre
Matcha tea latte
Everything green today..
Ah, then I should be drinking some golden smoky tea to match my perfume. I will work on that 🙂
Go for it!
I am starting to crave greens. You can’t go wrong with a green!
Regular 19 (edp) for me, those earrings would be perfect with it, cool perfection.
I am wearing by Killian’s Stairway to Heaven with Lemon, mostly because this year I am making an effort to use up my old samples, and this is in one of those manufacturer spray sample vials that evaporates so quickly when you’re not looking. The scent is nice, but I know it was a limited edition, so it really is use it or lose it time.
The name cracks me up.
Haha! Love it (it’s Straight to Heaven with Splash of Lemon, right?)
In Yves Rocher Accord Chic. A nice, pleasant and simple balsamic floral perfume which is very office friendly. I had the last sprays of my full bottle this morning and I am relieved that another fb is finished. I will not miss it. Let’s see how many more, including decants I can empty this year.
Happy Monday everyone!
Seems like Yves Rocher is doing fewer fragrance releases…wonder how they’re doing? Maybe they’re just concentrating on other categories.
I lost track of any of their new releases after I got Rose Oud 2 years ago. That is another bottle that I will finish soon and I do not think I will look for any other Yves Rocher any time soon.
Congrats on finishing a bottle! Maybe I will accomplish that same feat someday…
Don’t lose your hopes…
I pulled some samples and decants that were things that I either thought would be good for winter, or which I love all year round. First up is a sample of Cuir Ottoman. I’ve worn this before and liked it. On the second wearing, it seems just a little too powdery. I think that it is still worth considering the purchase of a decant, to see if it is different when sprayed.
Parfum d’Empire house twins!
If you like Cuir Ottoman, you should give Cuir X a shot. It’s a La Parfumerie Moderne fragrance done also by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato.
They are quite similar but Cuir X is softer I think.
If you’re in the US, I can send you a decant of Cuir Ottoman – contact me (there should be my e-mail somewhere if to click on my Gravatar).
I love Cuir Ottoman so I think you smell wonderful!
You smell great! That’s been a favorite of mine this winter. I thought it verged on baby powder when I first tried it a few years ago. But my powder tolerance has increased a lot since then.
I love Cuir Ottoman. You smell great. I need to get a bottle of that one of these days. It’s a great comfort scent to me.
Starting my Top Scents of Winter with a bang – Mitzah.
I spent most of the weekend in the office, and starting another week. Gotta love year end when you are a CPA 🙂
I am really enjoying seeing everyone’s top winter scents
Mitzah’s right up of the top of my list as well. You smell amazing!
You smell great! I love Mitzah but wonder if I could pull it off as an office-wear perfume…
Well, I do have my own office, so I am less likely to gas out someone over the long term. 🙂
It’s not super potent, especially if you only do a couple of spritzes.
Mitzah! Definitely one of my top 10 for winter. You smell awesome!
You smell great!
I’m wearing Beige because it is definitely one of my top 10.
Ooh, you smell purdy.
Love this scent.
I like Beige year-round, but particularly in winter. It has an uplifting effect in cold, nasty weather.
You smell wonderful, Robin! Fumee d’Or has been on my DSH list for a while now, but everytime I go up to her studio to buy it, I get distracted by her latest releases and, well, squirrel 🙁 .
We had to shovel out from under 6″ of snow this morning, then battle icy roads, all to come into the office to sign our furlough notices and go home. I decided I needed an extra jolt of caffeine to greet the morning, so I chose DSH Cafe Noir, my favorite coffee fragrance. Spicy, woody, and even a skosh floral, overtop delicious, freshly ground dark roast. f only I could get a latte that tastes as good as this smells!
Happy Monday, all!
DSH Cafe Noir is amazing. The best coffee scent I have encountered so far. I need to wear it more often. You smell fab!
I’ve been neglecting it for too long. I used to layer it with her Au Lait, which made for a sweeter latte scent, but ran out of the latter a few years ago, and anyway, now I love it on its own.
Au Lait is also great. I still have some, but I have never layered them. I like Cafe Noir on its own, especially for those days when I need an extra dose of coffee…
It is a really great scent, I’d sort of forgotten!
Sounds wonderful!
This sounds like something i need to try.
Wow, love those earrings! Too bad I don’t have a spare $84K lying around…
SOTD is Jubilation 25. Very close to finishing my sample. And it’s a great Fall/Winter scent.
I’d lose one of them in about 36 hours, and feel bad about it. So I think I’ll keep my $84K 😉
Jubi 25 is smack-dab perfect for those earrings.
You smell great! House twins in Amouage Dia, another glamourous Amouage scent.
Thanks to a generous NSTer, I’m in AG Vanille Exquise. It is lovely on this chilly day.
Y’all have a good one!
Its a great vanilla if you don’t like sweet
Vanille Exquise is lovely for winter – it’s just one of my fav non-food vanillas.
Cuir Altesse by David Jourquin, one of my Very Favorite Winter Scents. On me it’s all honeyed tobacco, rum, and spiced baked apples. FWIW, literally none of those notes are listed in the notes list. You never know what you’re gonna get, do you? 🙂
Hmm, that sounds nice!
Oh my, I have a decant of this from queen enabler Clarissa. Got your email and will reply back soon!
Kicking the Monday off with the green, the fresh & the spicy goodness of Parfum d’Empire Eau de Gloire.
Spent the morning testing Hedonist Rose. It smelled like Hedonist and Nahema got together and had a baby. Not sure if I would get a bottle of it though. So I am spending the day in Shalimar.
I like the earrings but I’d rather have $84k in my bank account.
Does not sound like a perfume I need either!
In Hermes Twilly today. All that healthy ginger is hopefully making my cold go away, shouldn’t it?
Good thought! If it works, I’m getting a lot of vitamin C from my Arielle Shoshana ????
It should absolutely help????
SOTD is L’homme infini from Divine. Beautiful but as fleeting as all other perfumes I’ve tried from them. 🙁
Divine is great house, surprised you can’t find one that sticks (literally)
Still lots of samples to try!
In Arielle Shoshana, I love the scent of tropical fruit in winter. I love guava, and I smell a little guava here – but maybe passionfruit and guava smell similarly.
you smell beautiful!
You smell great!
I’m wearing Mojave Ghost. I woke up craving it, so I couldn’t resist.
Time to hunt down some caffeine! I’m dragging, and there’s lots of projects to grade.
Nice choice! Not enough coffee in the world for me. ☕️
Wearing Suede de Suede today, which is a winter fav this year at least.
I have yet to try it! But me wants to try for sure!
This sounds amazing and I am going to try it soon. Thanks for posting this!
CB I Hate Perfume In the Library today. Just because. But I need to start thinking about my favorite winter scents – the wind was cold and icy while walking my dog this morning, so there is my inspiration.
Those earrings. Really beautiful as art. But SO not my style. (I’m almost always, but not ALWAYS, in simple chunky small white gold hoops.)
Have a great Monday, everyone. Job hunting here. Ugh.
Job hunting is never fun. Good luck to you in finding something great! ????
Robin, Fumee d’Or is beautiful.
I am continuing on my vanilla. SOTD – Loree Rodkin Gothic I. This is a top contender for my best Vanilla 🙂
A blast from the past — I never hear about LR anymore!
I prefer Gothic II slightly, but they are both great!
SOTD is the leftovers on my shirt. I think it’s a combo of SSS Winter Woods and UmmaGumma. I smell great but think it may be time to do laundry ????.
I could never pull off earrings like that. They belong on a geriatric blue blood. I think the QofE could definitely rock them. ????
Though my blood is red, I am geriatric. Can I try them?
I’m sure they’d work for you as you are a classy gal, and not a flannel shirt/blue jeans/grunge bum such as myself. ????
On the topic of SSS–all those years of my mother returning gifts to me that she decided for one reason or another she didn’t want finally paid off. Last night my mom returned to me an unused travel spray of SSS’s Champagne de Bois. Yea!
Yes!
Oh yes! What a great moment! Thanks Mom! That makes up for all the gift returns in spades! ????
She what? >.<
Nice that it paid off, though.
Score!!
SotD is Hinoki, CdG
Yesterday I saw Empire of scents (a.k.a. Le Nez) on Netflix.
I dont think it offers new insights for most perfumistas here, but its an entertaining documentary with some interesting people/talking heads (Chandler Burr, a truffle hunter, Olivier Roellinger, a wine expert, a neuroscientist, a tea ceremony master and more). Also the guy who made Vulva, he was the most boring person of them all haha.
Haven’t even heard of that doc. Will put it on the list!
Just added that doc to my Netflix queue. Thanks!
Thank you for this recommendation, we’ve also added this to our queue!
Would love to see this! Thanks for mentioning it.
Wearing YSL Paris EDT. I decided just wear what I like this week. It’s winter now, so any scent I feel like using can be in my current top 10 winter scents.
Anyway, this spring/summer flower bouquet smells great in winter. 🙂
Oh yum, you smell great!
I was going to wear my Shalimar EdP today but was lucky enough to get may hands on a bottle of Shalimar Light this weekend (thanks to a NSTer who no longer wanted her back up bottle) so I could not resist wearing it today. I love it sooooo much! Just perfect…
oooooh, how lovely for you! I expect Shalimar will get plenty of NST attention this week.
Please say ‘hi’ to Lucy for me. 🙂
Grace Coddington today, because it’s the only rose-forward sample with me. Nice to have as I look out at the drastically pruned rose bushes in my dad’s backyard.
Also nice to feel pretty as I spend my last day here vacuuming, dusting, laundry and general cleaning. My oldest sister lives nearby so she usually bears the brunt of those responsibilities. Least I can do. Will be tough to leave. I swear, if I were single, I’d move in with dad and cherish every minute left.
Amusing moment with friend in N-M at the Guerlain counter. She saw Shalimar and commented about only old ladies wearing it. I corrected her. She is not interested in fragrance…her obsession is jewelry, handbags and shoes. Far more spendy obsessions….we aren’t talking costume jewelry here….
Grace is pretty. Like it more than I used to. Maybe you could be single half the year and become a snow bird?
Consider me an old lady then!
I’ve already “confessed” to that.
I love that idea of moving in with dad to enjoy every minute. What about doing the summer months only? June, July & August, or just July & August?
SOTD is a lucky match to best winter – it’s one of my go-to fragrances: Bottega Veneta. I need a few parallel fragrance universes where I can wear all my favorite go-to fragrances at the same time. I’d get to use up my collection faster!
BV didn’t agree with my skin, but I can appreciate it more on other people.
Love BV, you smell fabulous.
Smelling fantastic in BV!
Wearing Sarrasins today. A good and gorgeous winter jasmine.
I like those earrings, but not very “me”, which is why I’m not buying them ???? But, like Robin, I have a drawer full of single earrings. I buy earrings but then never wear them, especially in winter since they seem to get pulled out by my knit scarves.
You smell great! Its one of my favourite fragrances 🙂
Thanks! I’ve started associating this one with you ????
Why I stopped at a Claire’s here….to buy those little rubber backs that keep drop earrings from being pulled out…..
Nothing has really helped with the scarf yank. And it hurts when that happens! Those work well for normal circumstances- I’ve pushed out earrings from talking on the phone.
Oh yeah…I’ve felt that yank. Ouch. And I have lost earrings due to scarves. Irritating, because, by definition, it’s an earring I like.
Nope, I still loose ’em.
I finally learned the trick of using plastic backs on my earrings. You can’t see them and no more losing earrings! Every single time I forget I lose one.
I find the backs with the plastic disc are the most secure but also a little uncomfortable.
Just lost one last week and it was a new pair! So sad… Bday gift from my parents. Between hat, scarf and long hair I’m giving up on wearing drop earrings in the winter.
Oh, no! How sad ????
Very sad. I too have lost favourite earrings that way. No drop earrings in winter or when going clothes shopping.
They must collect a lot of jewelry from those dressing rooms. I’ve found a fair share of earrings (and bracelets) in them, myself, over my lifetime.
SOTD is Carillon Pour un Ange by Tauer parfums – gorgeous ambergris, Lilac and Lily Of the Valley scent and perfect for today’s very humid weather.
Smelling beautiful! Your description of Carillon is marvelous.
Thanks! This is one perfume that had both my MIL and I swooning right out of the gate. Ethereal beauty.
Wow, those earrings are spectacular. I wonder what it’s like to be able to afford earrings that cost as much as a luxury car.
Wearing Atelier des Ors Iris Fauve from a split today! I love the AdO scents so much. The bottle and the gold flakes get a lot of hate, but their scents work perfectly on me. Besides, I am fond of the heavy glass bottle with its sun rays emanating from the center. From the back, the gold flakes look like they’re spinning in circles. And the cap has a nice, heavy feel to it, too.
Speaking of AdO: Would anyone be interested in a split of Cuir Sacre if I got it in time for the Feb splitmeet? I love it enough that my 5-mL decant just won’t cut it, but do I really need 105 mL? I don’t think so, and besides, $275 is a lot of money to spend on one scent.
What does Cuir Sacre smell like? Can you compare it to anything?
Hmm…it’s got a nice, spicy (oriental), warm base with plenty of saffron and cardamom and a touch of incense. The leather is very elegant, and it has some of the suede-y feel of Daim Blond with none of the accompanying fruit. It’s like sticking your nose into a new, very expensive leather purse while wearing Safran Troublant, while your friend is standing next to you wearing Olfactive Studio Lumière Blanche.
Well I have not smelled any of those comparatives, but lately I’m loving iris and leather. I could probably be enabled in February if you decide to go with it.
Haha, oops. If I think of any other comparisons, I’ll let you know 🙂 Have you smelled any of the other AdO scents? They share kind of an AdO-ade, just as most Tauers seem to have a Tauerade, so that might give you an idea of what to expect. If you like warm, comforting, hug-like orientals, I don’t think you can go wrong with Cuir Sacre.
(Forgive me if I’m mistaken, but don’t you live in the southern hemisphere? I should perhaps have specified that I’d split in the US.)
Lol, haven’t smelled any AdO either! But I do live in the U.S. I think I got a feeling for the perfume, you did well with the your description. It sounds very nice!
My bad! Not sure why I thought you were in Australia. Hooray! Please keep your eyes out for the split then 🙂
Hey, lillyjo, I don’t have your contact info, so I wanted to poke you here and tell you that I put up Cuir Sacré on the splitmeet, if you’re still interested in a decant!
They’re bottles are beautiful. I like a heaviness as well.
*Their*
I’m glad you agree!
Warm, hug-like oriental fragrances sound like just my thing. You can count me in on the split if you decide to move forward with it.
Yay! Two people showing interest is definitely enough for me to cave in and buy a bottle 🙂 Please keep your eyes out for it in the splitmeet!
SotD = CdG Sequoia from a sample
Smells like the California redwoods then gets even better. Warm and spicy, it would be interesting to compare with l’air du desert marocain. This makes a nice change from last week’s delicious vanillas.
Have a marvelous Monday, NST.
I would like to have a bottle of that one — and wonder how well it would layer with a nice vanilla?
lol, agree! I would like one too. Let’s arrange for bottles of Sequoia to rain down from the sky.
Sequoia has purity and clarity and straightforward-ness that makes me think it would layer well with many things. And cedar is probably my second favorite base note, after vanilla which is forever number one.
Not a top 10 winter favorite because I don’t reach for it often enough, but wearing Puredistance M today. Mmmmmm……
I’ve been mighty curious about Puredistance.
It’s great, well-edited brand. Their sample sets are beautifully packaged and worth the price of admission.
Gorg!
Thanks!
SOTD is Black Jade to counter this rainy Monday.
You smell great!
Love Black Jade.!
I tried Slowdive yesterday and I think there is a bottle in my future, but I want to compare it to Absolue pour le Soir. I don’t think I need two honey scents in my cabinet, and it is all honey with a tiny bit of floralcy–I get no tobacco at all. Today I’m wearing SAUF Contre Bombarde 32, which turns into a very nice warm incense on my skin.
Interesting. I find APLS much much more cumin-y, and hence alas a no go for me, than Slowdive. Curious how the comparison works for you.
I came down with a cold and feel like absolute a**, so I decided if I wore fragrance at all today, I wanted something natural. So I went with PPC Hindu Honeysuckle. Just a little bit, so if I want to actually smell it, I have to put my nose to my wrist. At least I can smell stuff.
Also.. holy crap I just saw the price on those earrings. That’s like 3 of my car! Maybe not quite, but not far off.
I’m wearing Coco Noir today, just because I felt like it.
Woops, don’t know how that showed up here. Lol
I have a sample of HH and I got lots of compliments when I wore it
Blurgh. Hope you feel better soon! I always love the ring of “ Hindu Honeysuckle”.
Bummer on the cold. 🙁 Get well soon!
It’s warm enough to melt the snow so I’m in SSS Equestrian which is spring for me so it matches the temperatures.
You smell great! I was so excited to be able to order my bottle of Equestrian! Laurie emailed me that it was ready, just before she had to call temporary timeout on fulfilling her remaining orders, and I’m feeling guilt on top of my excitement for contributing to her wrist issues ????.
I got my bottle , too, before she took a break. Sharing the guilty feeling!
I’m back to work today after a long weekend – which also means next weekend is closer 🙂
Some years I’m happily able to join Northern hemisphere folk in winter perfumes, but this summer is very warm. I’m planning on Le Temps d’Une Fête today, one of my summer favourites.
That’s a gorgeous scent in any season!
I agree!
10:30 AM in Oakland and there are already over 100 comments on NST!
From my top ten (a list comprised of at least 20) winter fragrances–I am in Dzongkha today. Crisp and spicy.
we are a busy bunch here..
Love Dzongkha!
Earrings are stunning! I’d love a pair myself.
SOTD: Dior’s Feve
Just made a new pot of earl gray with a touch of vanilla tea. Working away here at home. My husband has one of the NYC Ballet dancers coming over to pose for him at 2pm. That should be fun to meet her. We’ve actually just bought tickets to see Romeo & Juliet for Valentine’s Day. I love the ballet but I especially love Prokofiev’s music.
Oohh… I’ll have to tell this to the friend I mentioned in my post. Her other obsession is ballet. She has season tickets at SF Ballet, and was at the gala opening the night before I saw her. She knows many of the dancers, so she’d be thrilling if she were in your shoes.
The Romeo & Juliet music is absolutely beautiful. Enjoy!
Got to talk to her a bit. Very interesting world.
Fun! I’ve never been to the ballet in NYC, or an opera. Sounds like a great V Day date.
Etro Sandalo, for an unexpectedly bright cool day. I don’t know if it is one of my top winter scents, or just a decant I reach for when I want (real, old) sandalwood quietly humming along all day…
I wish I’d bought more sandalwood when it was still around!
Love those earrings, but honestly they’d look just as nice in a costume jewelry incarnation, methinks.
L’Occitane Ambre is my SOTD, purchased last year when they briefly re-issued it. It’s a nice orange amber. I haven’t worn it since last winter, enjoying its sunny warmth today.
That’s one of L’Occcitane’s best scents, IMHO. My mother loves it. You smell great!
I am wearing Ormonde Jane Champaca today after a workout and shower.
You smell fab! I love that one when it’s warm out.
Pretty!
Started off at yoga class in my new bottle of Amouage Myths woman. After lunch and a shower I have switched to Amouage Dia.
I need to dig out my decant of Myths. I love the opening but wish it lasted longer.
I sprayed a lot. :-). The drydown is great.
Well, I’m here rather late, but started out the day with Histories de Parfums Ambrarem Editions Rare. That’s primarily because I had a medium-sized decant of it with me in my travel bag but it does fit the theme of our project this week because some kind of amber would have to be in my top 10 of winter list. And this might be it, except that it has a strange metallic tang to it. I tried this and their Petroleum together and ended up buying a full bottle of the latter; sometimes I think a bit of that weird oud smell, or whatever, has sneaked into my decant of Ambrarem. I began my slide into the rabbit hole with amber scents and I do have my favourites…. I hardly wear this note any more, but now that I’ve re-tried it, I’m thinking that I should. We have a cheery sunny day after a lot of fog and clouds and rain, in the 60’s, very nice weather for now. I’m taking it easy. Is anyone else watching Season 2 of Victoria? Very sad last night.
I’m watching Victoria, just finished the second episode. It’s great entertainment. Looking forward to watching the latest one tonight or tomorrow. It takes me forever to get through because I keep pausing the video to look at the clothes and interiors.
Wearing Aroma M Geisha Noire, which arrived in the mail today. Starts out very vintage-y then settles into a lovely vanilla. Thumbs up from me! Thanks elisap & others who inspired this purchase.
Did you do the oil or the EDP?
Oh! Glad you like it. I lurves it and was addicted to it last winter. Will definitely wear it this week.
Oh, and I tried Eau de Missions again this morning on “clean” skin, and still got loads of wood and not much vanilla. I have a hard time with a lot of woody scents, though. My skin (or nose) tends to amplify them and they often turn sour. EdM didn’t turn sour, but the wood notes were still overwhelming. Maybe I’ll try it in warmer weather and see if that changes anything.
EdM didn’t work for me either. I had a bottle but ended giving it to my nephew. He loved it. It’s has a boozy edge on me, which I don’t love.
SOTD has been Serge Lutens “Ambre Sultan”. A worthy Winter favourite, if ever there was one. Didn’t do too badly at the weekend either , wearing perfumes that:
– were FBs not samples;
– suited to Winter;
– suited to our programme cutover weekend.
Saturday was BeauFort London “1805 Tonnerre”, for going into battle;
Sunday was Jovoy “Faites vos Jeux”, when the whole thing was in the balance.
Now it’s Monday and if I say things are going fine, I mean the levels of chaos and people running around with their hair on fire are containable and lower than expected. :^D
Unrelated matter – that was a very powerful piece that Halsey read. Sobering, in 2018.
Hope the chaos stays contained for you! Re: Halsey, simultaneously broke and repaired my heart.
You smell wonderful
I’m certainly late today, and I can’t even say it’s because I’ve been so busy – more that I’ve been so lazy!
SOTD is one I have always liked in winter, Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple. It looks as though they no longer sell bar soap; such a shame as this was a lovely soap as well.
Glad I grabbed a bottle of Tibetan Mountain Temple when I saw one. Too bad Pacifica seems to be done with soap and shower gels… they had some nice ones.
They really did. I’m sorry they’re gone.
I’m interrupting my streak of “Bottle Love” to retry a sample from the stash. SOTD = Byredo Gypsy Water. This is a rather quiet and well mannered scent on me. I think I have one more wearing of it in the sample vial.
Forgot to mention that those earrings are stunning!
Was able to (finally) sample Gucci Bloom earlier today. Meh. Initial reaction: Oh that’s Eternity meets Polo Sport Woman meets L’eau d’Issey. Felt more like sniffing the inside of a time machine than a new surprise, but then again this only speaks to my reaction to the hype. The fragrance is nice. Very big-yellow waxy floral. Am I crazy with the triple-threat flashback?
You just named three of my perfume nemeses. I didn’t get any of those from Bloom. To me it had similarities to Marc Jacobs, or a real toned down and cleaned up Carolina Herrera (original) I think it smells pretty modern though, compared to the ones I mentioned.
Hmm. I can’t say I had those impressions. I don’t have any problems with it, I guess I was just expecting something newer? less derivative? Never cared for Eternity for Women much, and was indifferent to L’eau d’Issey, but Polo Sport Woman — easily bathed in it, mid- to late-90s.
WOW. Those are some earrings!
If I had $84k, I would buy simpler earrings and go on an over the top vacation!
SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
This is in my Top 10 ever and is a perfume I associate primarily with winter.
Last year when I installed TurboTax, I got the message that unless I upgraded the Operating System on my mac, the 2017 software will not be supported. For almost a year, I considered buying a new one instead of upgrading the OS (yeah, I know, a first world solution for OS apathy); the Apple store did not make it easy with all the snazzy laptops, even one in Rose! Gold! Anyway, I took the plunge this weekend and … upgraded the OS to High Sierra. It took a day and a half. I didn’t think it was going to take this long but it did; thank goodness I did not have to babysit it the entire time. I was also able to install the 2017 Tax Year software so now I I‘m ready to roll. Next “project” is to switch out all the ink cartridges so I can start printing again!
I always think of you when I think about Cuir Beluga. Good luck with your taxes & upgrade, we are just about to embark on that arduous chore (we have to file 8 tax returns a year between the two of us, it is hell).
