Happy Hump Day, and happy Hanukkah! It's also Hot Cocoa Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: Galop d'Hermès.
Reminder: 12/15 will be Wild Kingdom Friday...wear a perfume with an animal in its name. If you don't have one, match your perfume to an animal and tell us about it. Suggested by Elisa.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Hermy plush horse, small model, in double sided cashmere & polyester (color: bleu denim) is $1,375 at Hermès.
What a cute horsie! Not $1375 cute though, maybe $35 cute.. 🙂
Trying the new Diptyque Vetyverio EDP, and so far loving its earthy opening.
I could stretch it to a $135 cute but that would be a stretch. ????
You are wearing one of my favorite Diptyque scents. I agree about the horse, although I love cashmere I might go up to 50 for it.
Gently stroking his cashmere mane would be so soothing 🙂
It might become one of my favorite vetivers – my favs are all earthy and rooty.
I’d pay $35 for it, but I’m drawing a blank as to where I’d put it. Blue horses don’t fit in my decorating scheme. But then again, I don’t really have a coherent decorating scheme.
And if you wanted one, I’m not sure dropping £1000 on a blue horse would be a great place to start. :^D
This made me laugh.
For that price, I’d expect it to be my size! It sure would be cute in a nursery. But I’m way past babymaking age, so….????
Happy Hump Day. I’m in an old school favorite Gucci Envy and ready to roller skate downhill into Friday. Have a great day all.
I am ready to skate downhill to 2018 😉
You have a great day too!
Whatever may happen in 2018, at least no one can make us re-do 2017!
Amen! Amen! Shout it out, Amen! :^)
haha!
You smell great!
What a horse! 😀
I am wearing Carven Ma Griffe, vintage, parfum de toilette. Since “ma griffe” can mean “my claw”, I dedicate it to all animals with claws but especially to cats (since I love them).
Old-school green aldehyde. A bit too much “old-school” for me (I find the green notes too aggressive here), probably, but I like how it softens when you give it time. Interesting, though I do not feel it belongs in my wardrobe.
I thought about wearing this for the same reason! And I share your feelings about it pretty much exactly.
I like Ma Griffe best dabbed rather than sprayed, although that might be because mine is also vintage, and I could be wrong but I think the aging has made it more bitter?
I dab it too – it’s a mini (5 ml) splash bottle. I am curious about the current version for the reason you mentioned – maybe it’s less bitter and more sparkling and fresh then the vintage one.
Agreed. A little too old school for my taste. I think mine might be off a bit though.
I love green in general (and aldehydes), and I respect Ma Griffe but do not love her.
Yay for kitteh claws, though.
Sigh, I still haven’t tried Galop and it sounds SO up my alley. I guess I need to go to a fancy department store? because I haven’t seen it in Sephora or duty free.
Wearing Smell Bent SheWolf today. Every time I wear it, it makes me realize I should really wear more musks, so it must be doing something right!
I have not tried Galop either, and it sounds really interesting. I only saw it sold in one shop accessible to me (big and fancy, with a large selection of niche), but they do not provide a tester. I checked during different visits, at least four or five times, and the tester bottle either does not exist or is well hidden. There is always something else to test, so I never asked SAs about it.
It’s so odd though – I thought it was meant to be a pillar, but it really is not being treated as one; it’s acting more like an exclusive.
Yes, it is. Higher price, less availability, no small sizes.
Everyone should really wear more musks, imho 🙂
Woke up with headache so mild Hermes Rode Ikebana and large chai and advil for me.
rose!
Hope the advil helps shellyw!
Thanks
Oh no, I hope you feel better soon! You are enveloped in beautiful scents.
Yes I love the Hermes rose
Large Chai sounds de-lish
Peets is pretty good, more spice than sweet wish wakes one up
Feel better!!
thanks
Sounds like a winning combo, hope you feel better asap!
thanks
Hope you’re feeling better!
I’m wearing L’air du desert marocain. It’s warming me up nicely on this cold day. Happy Hannukah to all who celebrate. Apparently my 2-year old granddaughter attended the Hannukah celebration at her dad’s grandmother’s house and was entranced by the bowl of dreidls put out for the kid’s to play with. Unfortunately she should have been frisked before leaving because she had tucked dreidl’s in every available pocket and crevice and came home with 15 of them.
that is pretty funny about the dreidls
Oh, that kiddo is quick! ????
Driedel theiving 🙂 🙂
Hilarious!
Fifteeeeeen!! Quite the little Artful Dodger you’ve got there. 🙂
Nice! Did she win all the candy as well?
You smell great. And too funny about the dreidls. But I would have gone for the chocolate gelt. 🙂
Me too! Especially since I know their family doesn’t serve many desserts. His grandmother was at first not keen on welcoming my non-Jewish daughter into the family but Vanessa is a great cook and baker and she said she “won them over one honey cake at a time”.
Lol! Hysterical. Hey, she’s 2 years old, she’s allowed some grace regarding thievery.
Thanks for sharing your granddaughter’s dreidl story. Adorable.
Every year I share the dreidl game with my 2nd grade music students. They love it, and most have not seen it before.
LOLOLOL! Too cute 😀
That’s adorable!
Triple strength coffee

I close my eyes and see blood and roses ????????????
RIP Pat DiNizio

Carpe Diem
Peace
????
It’s really been a tough year for us music folk. ???? Carpe Diem, indeed. ✌❤
Oh no, sad news. 🙁
OH NO NO NO!!!
OH man. Pat of the Smithereens. Hadn’t heard until now and I’m crushed.
NOooooooo!
I love the Smithereens. 🙁
Yeah, I heard about Pat DiNizio this morning. What a bummer.
Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon today from a vintage mini I paid too much for at a resale store. I was taken in by the fancy presentation box. It smells gorgeous but doesn’t last long.
That’s a good animal choice!
I see the association between the cute horse and Galop d’Hermes 🙂
I’m wearing Perris Monte Carlo Oud Imperial, it feels cozy to me.
And Hermes sells no end of cute horse products!
Cute horse. Cute, expensive horse.
I am wearing Annick Goutal Mandragore Pourpre and drinking a cup of orange spice tea.
Yum.
Ambre Reminsence
Oriental and woody
Hot Coco day- yes please
Oh, that sounds lovely! I have a bottle of it…. Somewhere….
SSS Equestrian for me today.
Another good animal choice–an implied animal, at least!
We are distant cousins 🙂
I’m in Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur today.
Lovely! I was just thinking of it.
Dzing! No animal in the name, but I think it fits the theme. I’ve only worn it twice this fall/winter; must rectify.
Also, before I clicked through I thought “Oooh, what a cute horse! How much is an expensive stuffed animal $50? $75?” Shows what I know . . .
Right! But pretty sure I have posted Hermes horse things that cost even more than this. There was one made out of leather…I’ll have to see if I can find it.
And…voila!
https://nstperfume.com/2017/03/27/monday-scent-of-the-day-327/
The smell of Dzing! makes me think of horses. To my nose your are perfectly on point today. And you smell great.
Oh, great choice! I will wear my Dzing! tomorrow!
Serge Lutens La fille de Berlin
Mmm. You smell wonderful
Thank you:-)
very nice..dark rose
it’s dark but quite wearable during the day in the winter. I think.
Horse is seriously cute, but even if it were $35.00 , I wouldn’t buy it as one of the houndies would steal it and chew it up.
Wearing Daesin Winter today – it smells like my Galgo Oliver’s fur. He is the little goober in my avatar, and as he snuggles with me all night, he always smells of scent. This scent is of warm sleepy puppy, tucked in beside you on a chilly night – you wake up, and he snuggles into you just a bit more, makes little grunty noises and is asleep in seconds.
I like this one.
My dachshund would have had a field day with that horse. Complete destruction in 10 minutes 🙂
Did you try the Winter Nights version as well? It is seriously good.
I have a FB of each – I caved on the Twisted Lily discount offer. 🙂
So did I. 🙂 No regrets!
Your puppy sounds lovely. I love my big furry Golden Retriever, but she does NOT sleep with me – never manages to stay clean for long. She would love that horse and (depending on size of course), would carry it around in her mouth like a baby. She never rips up her animals.
One of my greatest joys is huffing the scent of my non-human family members. 😉
Me too. Fur smells so good. I bury my nose in my puppycat’s fur and inhale deeply. Heaven on earth.
Happy Hanukkah to all my friends who celebrate it! Enjoy the week with friends and family….
I’m still in a Christmassy gourmandy vibe (I’ll probably stay that way for a while) with Jo Malone Blue Agava and Cacao. Gentle chocolately goodness!
Trying to decide if I want to purchase a bottle of Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit. Does anyone here own it, and if so, can you comment on longevity and such? Thanks!
Hajusuuri has it, hopefully she will chime in. I want to smell it but cannot face the hordes at the mall right now.
What CM8 said below. It is long lasting for a Jo Malone and it is delish. I am a using a decant right now from her but I may actually have a 30mL somewhere from when it first came out.
I miss my Blue Agava & Cacao.. 🙁
I do have some body creme, however, and I use it sparingly!
I loved that fragrance, too!
I love it, but on me it’s fleeting. I like it so much I don’t mind that it doesn’t last, I just re-apply or switch perfumes.
Thanks! I’m sooooo tempted to purchase….LOL
Ginger Biscuit has excellent longevity and smells fantastic. I vote yes for full bottle.
Thank you so much! I may have to pull the trigger on it….willpower is weak! LOL
Doitdoitdoit!
I’m wearing Smell Bent Winter Vixen today. Hazelnut, vanilla, cacao, and cinnamon. What’s not to like?
I adore this one.
Those notes are all loves of mine. Guess I need to add Vixen to the sample list.
I hope you can find it. It’s discontinued. I’m at the end of a travel decant that I got a few years ago, at one of the Smell Bent “Garage Sales”. I would love to get more. Maybe they’ll have it at next year’s garage sale.
Ooh, yum. That sounds delicious.
What’s not to love indeed. I am salivating.
Drinking lots of coffee and wearing Kenzo Jungle Le Tigre. Great combination for a day when I am in one of the construction sites bearing terrifying freezing temperatures (feeling in 2F) >:( I will survive…
Honestly, I don’t know how you do it. Stay warm!
I go in and out continuously trying to keep myself warm or cool, depending on the season. However, I asked myself the same question regarding the construction workers being outside the whole day. Today is really brutal. My respects to them.
perfumelover67 – what kind of job do you have? I hope you don’t mind me asking – maybe you’ve posted before. Wrap up warmly and yes, you will survive and smell wonderful!
I am in the structural engineering field. 60% of the time I spend it in the office, the other 40% at the sites. The worst part is when we have to face the weather conditions outside for many days or weeks in a row. I always try to get comfort and energy during those days from coffee and my perfumes, very lightly applied, so not to cause any distractions around. I will be out for the rest of this super cold week…
Got it! Sounds tough – we’ll be thinking of you this week. I agree – lots of respect for all the workers whose jobs keep them always out in the weather!
Ohhh mini review please, perfumelover67.
When I purchased Elephant, I also smelled Tiger and didn’t purchase the latter. Don’t remember why, and my perfume OCD wishes I had. LOL ????
????????????
Bear, I also regret not to have purchased a full bottle of Tiger when it was available. I just have a small decant that I try to make it last forever.
Tiger is mostly citrus and cinnamon on me. It opens with a burst of candied orange and apricot. Osmanthus and ylang-ylang show up in the middle notes. But the best part and the one that I enjoy the most, is when the cinnamon makes its appearance. It becomes spicy and woody, with some sandalwood present also. It is not overwhelming and it is not a gourmand scent. I wore it a few times during summer time and it bloomed beautifully, however I prefer to wear it in colder temperatures.
Thanks perfumelover67!
It took me a while in my perfume journey to appreciate Osmanthus (I do now) and that is probably why I was reluctant to purchase.
Mystery solved !! LOLOLOL ????????
Thanks again! ????????????????????
????????????????????
Ouch! It is bitter cold out there with the wind. Take good care!
I will! I just hope I do not catch a cold…
Oh, no, not good. Lots of layers and hat!
I am bundle up in lots of layers. This is the first time that construction boots are not working that well for me. I was supposed to wear more than one pair of socks but I completely forgot.
I ran across some battery-powered heated socks the other day (on amazon, maybe?) Those hand-warmer one-time-use packets might be nice to have, too. Be safe!
Thank you for the info.! I did not know about battery-powered sock. I will look for them for sure. Sometimes, I have used the hand warmers inside my shoes and they work really, really good!
It might not make a huge difference in tundra-like conditions, but my newest winter essentials are bodysuits, which have made a comeback – YAY! I’m not exactly sure why, but they keep me so much warmer than wearing a layering tee under sweaters (maybe because there are no coverage gaps around my core?) Also, unlike layering tees or camisoles or whatever, they don’t move around and need constant adjustment, and create a smooth line under other layers. Those and fleece-lined tights have really changed-up my winter game. Oh, and sheepskin orthotics 😉
Back in the day when I had to take public transportation to get to a job, I used to wait for the bus wearing pantyhose or tights under my slacks. And if things were really nasty, I would add ski underwear to the mix.
I have also used the one-use hand warmers for cold toes.
I wear thermal underwear on very cold days like today. I have to take the bus everyday or walk to connect to the train. And bresides, working outside is very tough, but I try to keep myself as warm as poasible.
Hope you get a break in the weather soon!
Not sure if you have to wear steel toe construction boots, but as a Canadian I can highly recommend our Pajar boots. Lined with sheepskin and rated down to -40. My feet have never been cold in these boots.
Stay warm!
Yes, I have to wear steel toe construction boots. I will look for the Pajar boots right away. They are exactly what I need. Thanks a lot Cazaubon!
Oy vey, that is brutal. I bundled up and I am not out in the elements for too long even with my convoluted commute. I saw a guy just wearing a button down shirt and slacks – eeeek!
I like the heat-tech undershirts from Uniqlo – I have the unlined ones (the lined ones make me look and feel bulky). $9.90 each this past weekend.
I got some of the heat tech undershirts from Uniqlo a week ago. I love them. They are great and do keep me pretty warm. I think I should get more before the holidays are over.
How I love that blue horsie! But I’ll have to stick with my galloping Camel from Zoologist
The camel is one of my favorite animals. They’re tremendous. And you smell great. 🙂
Winter storm warning today, luckily I am off today with no plans to go anywhere. The kids still had school today, so there will be some worrying. I am wearing White Diamonds for a day of cleaning and calling people I don’t want to talk to. I’m smelling pretty dang glamorous though????
“calling people I don’t want to talk to” Hysterical!
It’s funny, because it’s true!
Oh no! Good luck with those “unwanted calls”. I need to do “mine” for the holidays soon. Just keep postponing them 😀 😀
I’ve only managed one phone call so far. I accidentally got distracted looking at an old photo album, lol…. Time to get back on track.
I completely forgot about the animals this week, but I’m inadvertently on theme with Equistrius. It doesn’t smell like a horse, but it’s very lovely all the same.
Perfect!
Good Morning Scented Friends! Happy Wednesday!
My SOTD is Modern Muse by Estee Lauder. I always get so many compliments on this one. I like it on me, but others love it on me for some reason. Can you believe that we are less than 2 weeks away from Christmas? The time between Halloween and Christmas fly by. Have a great day everyone!
It really does, and even though I know it does, I’m nevertheless stunned on an annual when it’s suddenly Thanksgiving, seemingly out of nowhere. If only the weeks from NYE to Memorial Day would pass by in the same fashion…
Today’s matchup…comparing old and new SDV.
The new has a harsh synthetic note to me where I feel like they were going for booze but it is sour and unpleasant at first. I’ve worn this one before and it does improve.
The old has more wood and is smoother. Less booze…synthetic or otherwise. ????
More later…
Hi She-ra – I replied to your post yesterday just now but basically I just said that my SDV was from a decant made several years ago – at least 5, maybe a few more. It’s delicious. I wonder if the new SDV will age into a smoother concoction.
A few hours in they are virtually indistinguishable now.
The old is slightly woodier perhaps.
I am happy to send you some of the new if you want to try it. The opening is oddly harsh to me at least then it becomes quite nice. I can be reached at sherainsocal with our friends at gmail if interested.
Emailed you. Thanks.
I recently tried a new bottle, and I agree. I remember the opening being smoother than it is now. Hate that they ruin perfumes all for the love of $$. ????
In Nightingale, having a bagel with cream cheese and a gingerbread latte for breakfast.
Latte is leftover from yesterday’s run, stashed in the fridge overnight. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. ????
yum! enjoy
Indochine!
I’ve had mine out but haven’t worn it. You smell great!
I’m wearing Zoologist Rhinoceros today. It’s one of the ones I’ve been iffy about. I love several (Bat, Civet) and dislike several (Hummingbird, Macaque), but this one is more strange, complex, and hard to decide on. It certainly goes on strong, with the old/leather/smoke combination. It’s off-putting at this stage but I’m waiting to make more observations and judgments until later on.
SOTD is Lancome’s Sikkim.
I’m celebrating it all–Channukah, Alabama, no more sick kid–and being predictable as all get-out. It’s super cold here, so I’m in Chypre Mousse.
Cheers to all 3!
Plenty to be happy about today for sure! Enjoy your Chypre Mousse!
hip hip hooray for all of it!
Chanel No5 Eau Premiere for me today!
Bitter cold out today and the wind makes it feel like below zero downtown. Enjoying some chai tea my cube-mate just brewed at her desk.. wrapped in a blanket as I work on tying up loose ends before vaca begins next week. Very excited for a nice long break.
Yay for a nice long break!
Thanks! Fingers crossed I don’t get sick like last Christmas.
I’ve got my Zinc close at hand.
Jealous about your vacation time. Enjoy! 🙂
I need it. I had a heck of a fall work-wise. I’m actually not doing much.. staying in the city and sleeping in, reading and a few cultural activities.
You deserve that break. Staying in the city quiet and relaxing with few activities, without the hassle of a trip is my ideal vacation. Thinking about taking some days off like that next year.
Enjoy your vacay, floragal!
DSH Madonna Lily. Not an animal (and not especially lily to my nose), but I love it and so does my dog. Maybe that counts?
Thanks a million to therabbitsflower for her generosity!
Of course it counts!
Lonesome Rider to match the cute, but vastly over-priced horse. I’d be lonesome if I bought it, because I’d be quickly divorced. And I don’t think you could actually ride that thing.
Haha – your second sentence. Same here.
Funny!
LOL!
I’m being kinda silly today and chose Cuir Beluga for the beluga whale. I know it’s meant as caviar in the perfume name, but I was happy for an excuse to wear it and be on theme. I’m so glad I dabbed from a sample because otherwise it would be too strong for the office.
Also, I’m wearing my favorite vintage blouse that has a print of matadors, bulls, and horses in red, gold, and brown hues on a white background. Paired with a red lip and red bamboo coral necklace. So theming in clothes too.
I’m excited to go out to the movies tonight, especially on a work night. My boyfriend and I are going to a small independent theatre within walking distance to see an Italian giallo horror movie from the 70s called The Perfume of the Lady in Black. Great title, huh?
Perfect! All of it – fragrance, fashion, and movie plans. Have fun!
Yes! Sounds very intriguing. Enjoy your date night!
Hey twin! And since I’ve decanted my Cuir Beluga, I used, ummm 7 sprays and no one complained 🙂
Hey fellow perfume nuts, I’ve missed you! I manage to read no more than a tenth of each SOTD, sadly, which is my favorite thing about this blog. Sigh. I hope you all are well. I cannot wait for vacation. I’m exhausted.
I had a dream that Zoologist had come out with a new scent that was called Rhinoceros but was completely different from the existing one. I then dreamed that I wore it and excitedly talked about wearing it in this post. Unfortunately, it was just a dream.
A cashmere horse, eh? No matter; it’s adorable.
I’m not following the CP; I’m wearing Rose Flash, as it’s one of the few scents nuclear enough to make it through my congestion (I’m getting over a cold).
Speaking of things like Rose Flash, I’ve now gone through THREE bottles of Rose Delight body oil in the past year, with very conservative use! I use it much less often than I would like to. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I wish he sold it in larger volumes. Has anyone tried diluting the Rose Delight oil? I wonder if I could get the same joy if the perfume content were only half as much.
Just last week I finally got to try the oil and wow! Why bother with the perfume? I’m going to hold off until after Christmas as I do believe Santa will be generous regarding all things rose jam related.
You know, every time I try Rose Flash, I realize it’s more different from Rose Delight than I remember! So they each have a role in my heart 🙂
Mmmmm Rose Jam! I might be generous to myself regarding all things Rose Jam related.
Hi Koyel – hope you get a vacation soon!! I’ve just made it through a terrible cold as well. Your Rose Delight sounds lovely, but I haven’t tried it and can’t answer your question except to say that you could try adding some to a handful of your own plain jojoba oil and see if that works to dilute yet remain appealing. I love jojoba oil in the winter and use it after every shower.
Thanks, springpansy! I’m so glad your cold is over, and sorry you had to suffer it. I feel like such a bad chemist, asking you guys if diluting the Rose Delight works well rather than just trying it myself 🙂
I have also asked Andy for larger bottles. In the meantime, I would add some jojoba oil to it to extend it if you want to apply it all over. Me, I only apply it to my upper body as I can’t smell my legs. 🙂
I will certainly try it now! Haha, clever 🙂 I’ll try that, too.
Does anyone know where I can buy the oil online in Spain? Tauer does not ship to Spain….
He might be able to ship soaps and oil (non-perfume items)? You can email and ask… Not sure if Luckyscent will ship to Spain.
Maybe I can mule it to you? I will be in Barcelona 12/29 to 1/2
Oh that would be lovely! Also, it would be wonderful to meet someone from the community. Can I email you?
Yes – please click on my username to get my email address!
Joining in on Galop today from a sample.
It is a well-known source of amusement among friends and family that both my husband and I have a love of stuffed animals. My husband usually packs one into his suitcase when we travel. So, of course, I had to send the plushy horse link to my husband as a suggestion for Christmas. What’s even more amusing than the price? It is cashmere AND polyester.
Love this. So sweet!
It’s very entertaining to see how housekeeping deals with the animal. Some very sweetly place it on the bed.
Ha! For the price, you’d think they might’ve stuffed it with gold dust rather than polyester fiber-fill.
Tee hee! How sweet. I only recently off-loaded my very small collection of nostalgia-related stuffed animals. I am particularly fond of stuffed bunnies 🙂
I’m still a sucker for a cute stuffed animal!
Seriously, not to stick up for the horse or its price, but I am guessing it is the hair that is poly?
My guess is Elisa P nailed it…the inside is likely poly fiberfill. The hair might be cashmere.
The horse is fabulous, and there are people for which the price is the equivalent of my $5….
How cute! They were probably confused by the lack of kid detritus.
We ALSO have a ridiculous overabundance of stuffed animals! We ALSO bring someone along with us when we travel 🙂
I’m in orange blossomy goodness with Reem Acra.
$1375 for a stuffed animal is bonkers. I mean, I’m sure it’s awesome and it should be, but for that kind of money it better have magical powers or be able to clean my house or something.
Its magic power is making money disappear, lol.
Yes — that is the magical power of Hermes in general.
SotD = Jo Malone English Oak & Redcurrant from an STC sample
animal = the rare English red squirrel, check out teh cute ear tufts:
https://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/redsquirrel
The sour fruity facet in this scent is deftly balanced with woodiness. I like it though a red fruity note is usually not my favorite. I think I will look for a tester of English Oak & Hazelnut to compare, it might be a winner.
I’ve been in denial. This morning I faced the fact that I’m way behind on holiday shopping. Whoops!
Ack, so am I! Can’t believe it is the 13th.
Christmas Eve falling on a Sunday is great for retailers as it maximizes shopping opportunities
Was feeling rosy today so went with Papillon Tobacco Rose. Animal in the brand name credit? I’m thinking this perfume does better in the heat, but I’m still enjoying it.
I think it smells great all year round, and I think having Papillon in the brand name should count. 🙂 I may resort to that myself this Friday.
It does smell good but I can’t smell it quite as well in this frigidity. Isn’t your pup a papillon? Butterflies and dogs =double credit ????
Yes, I have 2 Papillon dogs. 🙂
Excellent! Those are adorable doggies ????
Testing vintage Patou’s Moment Supreme, I usually love chypre’s , but not enamoured with this one.
I did not fall in love with it either. Patou in general does not seem to be my house.
MPG Ambre Precieux today. Needed something warm and familiar for the Holiday Sing with my 3 year old classes and families. We made it through Rudolph, Deck the Halls and Jingle Bells before the kids realized that their families were all around them watching and were promptly totally distracted.
Cute story and you smell great!
????
Wearing Profumum Sorriso for Hot Cocoa Day. Of course my bottle of Ummagumma arrived after I had already selected Sorriso. Maybe I’ll wear it tomorrow if I’m still in a cocoa mood.
What’s also exciting is my box of new makeup brushes from Hakuhodo also arrived in the mail. Happy Hannukah to me, and to all my yiddische NST friends!
Oh, fun! A few years back I replaced (almost all) of my brushes with Hakuhodo. They are beautifully made and a pleasure to use. Which ones did you get?
I got J5521 highlighter, B004 eye shadow, B142 eye shadow, J5523 eye shadow, B110 blush, and J021 eye shadow, all in goat hair with the standard black handles. They are so soft and work great. Should have done this years ago! I already had the Chikuhodo Z1 powder brush and the Marc Jacobs bronzer brush that I was happy with, so now I feel set in the brush department. Do you have any big favourites?
I have almost all of the J Series white goat eye brushes, which I use daily as I primarily wear matte powder shadows. I also have and love the J5523 – one of my favorites. G5520BkSL is a nice little pencil brush (I use it with powdered shadows applied as eyeliner) and the G5528BkSL is really, really nice (I use it as a smudger around my lash lines with powdered shadows.)
Other favorites are the J210 blush brush which is great with cream blushes, and the J4002 Duo Fibre which I didn’t know what to do with until I started using liquid bronzer, and it’s perfect for that. I also have a black squirrel fan brush that is really nice for powder and powdered highlighters.
I rabbit-holed hardcore for about a year obsessively looking at blogs featuring Japanese brushes, and ended up buying Hakuhodo because their prices are reasonable and shipping is easy within the US. I spent quite a bit of money and have some I don’t use terribly often (they have such a huge selection that a lot are only useful for very specific purposes) but none that I don’t use at all.
Interestingly, after all that time and money spent I’ve come to prefer applying foundation and cream/liquid blush with my fingers (which I really used to be opposed to.) I’ve also really come around to the Beauty Blender, and some of the synthetic Real Techniques brushes which are great with cream products. But choosing the right brush all about what kinds of products you use and how you apply them. They’re important than makeup IMO – expensive makeup and cheap brushes does not work, but cheap makeup and nice brushes does 🙂 Have fun!
I have a goat hair Koyudo that is similar (but more pointed) to the G5528 and a Wayne Goss pencil brush similar to the G5520. I agree good tools make a huge difference!
Woot! Great you got you Ummagumma. If you have smelled L’Incendiaire, please let me know if you notice a resemblance.
I have smelled it, but it was a year ago and I have no sample to try side by side, so not sure I can give you any useful impressions…
hee-hee, thankfully most parents think their pre-schooler is adorable no matter what. 🙂
oops, meant this for MMKinPA above.
I’m in Encre Noir A L’extreme.
Yum!
Hi, all. Very quickly, because I’m late today —goodness, but I’m getting slow and lazy!— I’m smelling delicious in L’Ombre dans L’Eau. Such an interesting scent! Cool concept, excellent smell. What more is needed for this hot day, the day of the school Christmas lunch? A bright lippy, white jeans, and an airy top. I’m ready.
I survived yesterday. I fumbled a couple of really straightforward names (bother, bother, bother!) and got the long, difficult ones right. So, not a perfect performance, but maybe a B/B+. A- if people are being kind, which they won’t be, of course. Oh well.
Item for The Kitten Report: Eric has reached 3.2kg, and is looking much less like a little waiflike waft of neon white fur and much more like a young Siamese cat. He won’t ever be big, but he now looks just slightly plump, and we’re so pleased to see it. The little stripey jobs are way ahead of him, of course, both above 4kg, but that’s OK. Eric holds his own. Eric fights back. Eric thinks…he often retaliates when they’re sleeping. I’d do that too, if I had a heavyweight hold me down and chew my ears…
I’d better get going. I’m curiously reluctant to face my day, but L’Ombre is so pretty that I really should go out and share it round. Be well, all.
Enjoyed the updates. Go forth smelling fabulous!
Hurrah for Eric going up in his weight! ????????
What a cute door stopper (is that what it is?)
I’m in Parfum d’Empire Ambre Russe. No animal in its name but it smells slightly animalic on skin, so it counts a bit 😉
Lucasai, yesterday on my local weather, they showed a “snow devil” in Poland. I thought of you, and the crazy weather you’ve been having. It was cool to see on TV, but wouldn’t want to see in person.
In Beige again for my next-to-last day of work. Might be able to finish off the decant this week.
Are you going away during your break?
Not on theme, but smell intoxicating in Coromandel edt. Happy hump day, all!
Smelling intoxicating is always more important than being on-theme.
Nice to see you! I missed your lime green gravatar ???? You smell great!
You’re on thene because you can get orca out of Coromandel 🙂
Really late to the party today. My power is out and my only internet connection is my cell phone, so I am in Shalimar.
Hope power is restored quickly for you!
Oh yuk on your power being out!
Wearing half-spritz of “old” Patchouli 24–enough birch tar to make me happy without someone around me asking if something’s burning.
Does the old smell different? I had a fairly recent sample and someone mentioned dental office smell, and I couldn’t unsmell That after that. Wonder if older stuff doesn’t have “that smell”.
The old stuff smells like a barbecue to me. Beurk.
Maybe too late for you to see this, but nope, no dental office smell. Much more sexy bonfire?
Cuir de Lancôme on this freezing cold day!
Will wear it tomorrow! Thanks for reminding me.
I need to pull mine out, too.
SOTD is Annick Goutal “Vanille Charnelle”.
Top: ylang-ylang and pepper;
Mid: vanilla, tonka bean and white musk;
Base: vanilla absolute and vetiver.
Smells like vanilla pencil shavings. I would have loved having vanilla-scented pencil when I was 12, if I’d been a girl. Now? Not so much.
Thanks for the warning about pencil shavings… I will avoid this one.
SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
I am taking a little break from No.19 to wear this cozy perfume on this cold cold day.
I don’t blame you one bit for wanting to wear something cozy! Brrrrrrrrr!
I had 3 long-sleeved layers (besides my $50 down puffy coat from Costco). 3 scarves, hat and convertible mittens/gloves.
I hope you weren’t overheating at your job with all those layers…
Nope, the third layer came off as soon as I got into the office!
Wicked cold wind chills where I am today. Getting the mail and taking out the trash were really unpleasant tasks. I hope that this isn’t a sign of things to come for future winter weather. Bleah!
SOTD = Czech & Speake No. 88 Cologne, from the sample stash. Wow! What a gorgeous dark, spicy rose! A much better fit for the weather, and my mood. ????
Gorgeous dark spicy rose ???? sounds gorgeous!
It is! ???? I’m thinking I might do a compare & contrast with a couple of other dark rose samples I have.
