Happy Almost-Friday! It's also the International Day for Tolerance. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Ruth Mastenbroek Oxford. (It does not really remind me of cigarette smoke at all.)
Reminder: 11/17 will be Dealer's Choice: propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme. (Another repeat — we did this in 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Wow, early bird today! I am feeling a lot better (finally!) and am wearing Tauer Le Maroc pour Elle.
I have a sample of this somewhere….you’ve reminded me!
Glad you’re feeling better, finally!
Twilly must have strong healing powers. Hurray!
I seem to be craving tuberose post-recovery. Tonight I spritzed on JM Tuberose Angelica.
Finally is right! Glad to hear.
So glad you’re feeling better. 🙂
I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. You were hit hard!
Hurray for feeling better and smelling great!
Thank you everyone! I am so relieved to be up and wearing perfume again. That was a long, vicious siege.
I’m wearing Chanel’s Cuir de Russie (old edt) That is so perfect for cold November days 🙂
I bet it is great! I love the current and old seems to run better with perfumes
I am not a fan of the new eau de parfum from the Les Exclusifs! The only one that I seem to like is Coromandel. The others has lost they magic, sadly 🙁
My edt is from the Les Exclusifs when they first came around, o it’s about 10 years old or something..but still smells heavenly potent 😀
I agree with you wholeheartedly as I am your scent twin today. We smell gooood.
We do indeed 🙂
Finished my sample of MCG Gershwin. That was really a forgotten sample – the last time I used it was in 2015.
Hate to think of how many forgotten samples I have!
Triple strength coffee
Long workout
Is asking a stranger about their scent always perceived as flirtation?
Marshalls
Browsing shirts I smell a huge cloud of? Citrus? Hedione ? Ambroxan? Acqua di Gio ?
Me- are you wearing Acqua di Gio ? (It would have perplexed me all day if I hadn’t asked)
Him- huh ?
Your cologne, is it ADG ?
Mumble
I’m sorry could you repeat that?
Uncomfortable expression, mumble again.
(Why do straight men over estimate their sexual attractiveness? Please! As if !)
I don’t unders…..
D I O R Dior (mumbled )
Dior cologne?
Vigorous nod.
Thanks!
I continued browsing, thinking I’ve smelled Dior Cologne, that ain’t it.
Lightbulb! !!
Dior Sauvage , yes I’ve smelled that I was mistaken about ADG.
Glad I asked, I would have thought about it all day.
Surprised he thought I was flirting!
LOLOLOL ????????????????????
Was I ?
????
Carpe Diem
????????????????????????????
Peace
☕☕☕
????????????
I don’t think you were flirting (necessarily), but the guy must have looked at least a little bit approachable. Or maybe you’re just fearless when curious about something. 🙂
I’m not easily intimidated.
????
And hairy !!
Hence, my screen name!
LOLOLOL
????????
????
This made me laugh so hard 😀
Me too!- yes straight men do tend to overestimate their attractiveness!
me 3! thank you for this laugh Bear!
I have to stop myself from asking older-men what they are wearing, even when I REALLY want to, and by old, I’m talking older than me and well beyond 65. Pretty sure they would get the wrong impression too.
Oh dear..why can’t men (in particularly) just take a question for what it is..and if the perfume smells lovely and we compliment, just say thanks and move on. No biggie 😀
I love when people say I smell good and what it is 🙂
We need to be better to compliment 🙂
I’m happy to bring some laughter to the universe!
????????????
????
Bear, that may depend on what cologne YOU were wearing! ????
Black Cashmere, nozknoz.
Are you saying if I was wearing a more ‘feminine’ scent I would be perceived as more flirtatious?
Interesting………
????
Perhaps more dangerous. 🙂
But mainly I was thinking of how seductive, outrageous, or not, the perfume might have been. Black Cashmere isn’t over the top, but perhaps sweeter than guys usually wear. Definitely not the usual (and horrible) “sport” fragrance.
I would think it should never be perceived as flirtation, unless the question was delivered in an overtly flirtatious manner, and I’m sure it was not. Also, most guys I know hate to shop. They don’t enjoy browsing….they want to get what they need quickly and skedaddle.
Or, he was just not social. Too bad for him…he missed having a conversation with a nice person!
Thank you, Nancyleandros !
☺
????
Bear, I would be thrilled if someone asked me what I was wearing..gay, straight, trans, whatever!!! because that would mean I was smelling good enough to make an impression 🙂
????
Right on CM8!
????
An SA in Bloomingdale’s asked me what I was wearing, but aside from my SOTD I was all spritzed up so I extended each body part until she found the culprit (my SOTD-Gris Montaigne) on my neck! Women are easy that way ???? She also told me what I was wearing was so much better than what she was selling, lol.
LOL
????
????
Had to laugh at your comment about straight guys and their perceived appeal. 8)
I wonder if the person you asked was not used to anyone noticing his scent?
Someone in his life must notice, Sauvage has huge sillage !
Men! !!!!!

Nicolai rose royal today. read many reviews about how nice and after amber cashmere i did another blind buy (small bottles reasonable prices). good but not a great for me, but very nice for work
At least it was a small bottle, and you do smell nice!
Memo Shams today. I got a sample 5 years ago and loved it, probably my first oud experience. It felt incredibly powerful then.
Have got another sample recently and love is gone, power is gone…my first reformulation heartbreak?
You are in good company then!
Wearing a hint of Lumiere Blanche from last night, that is eclipsed by the scent of the Cire Trudon Etoile candle.
This might be one my favorite candles ever. It’s primarily aldehydes, rose and cedar to my nose and reminds me of Chanel No 5 and FM Superstitious.
It is keeping me sane while babysitting a 12week old rambunctious puppy and trying to work. (Of course very little work is being done.)
One of these days I’m going to pick up a Cire Trudon candle.
… but it is not this day. 😉
Same here.
Me second on Cire Trudon candles!
Just got a Boy Smells “Mssr Blanchy” candle (ginger root, peppercorn, grapefruit, and leather), and excited to try it out. I am hoping it will pass the Husband test, as right now the only one he likes currently is “2 Stroke Smoke.”
Oh goodness, I have a kitten who’s probably around that age and she is a piece of work. I’m a young person myself and she wears me out. Hope you have some fun with that puppy!
A 12-week-old puppy! How marvelous!!! I would like a puppy.
I’m in Alahiiiiiine today, and feeling relieved. I’ve been avoiding wearing it lately because when I uncap the bottle it has been smelling sharp somehow. On skin it isn’t sharp at all, and I should have remembered that. It’s perfect for another cold, rainy day today.
Oh, you know I love my Alahiiiiine. But sometimes when I haven’t worn it in a while, the first couple of spritzes smell awful. THen I clear whatever was in the spray tube out, and it’s fine.
It’s still not really cold enough here for ALahine.
I am planning on wearing Alahiiiiiine for the holidays
You smell so good. I need to get my hands on some more of that. Went through my sample super fast.
Day #4 of Vanilla Week in Atelier’s Vanilla Insensee from yet another Atelier sample (my house is littered with Atelier samples due to my Sephora addiction). If I wind up purchasing a vanilla it will probably be this one – the drydown is a little boring, but it’s nice and dry and I’ve found that it layers well with amber and incense scents. Plus I always get compliments on it!
Happy Thursday! Hope my fellow cooks out there are ready for next Thursday . . .
Speaking of, I might do duchesse potatoes rather than traditional mashed, but the decision is weighing on me. I ALWAYS do traditional.
My opinion, people look forward to the traditional on Thanksgiving.
As delicious as the duchesse may turn out, someone is going to say, I was really looking for the mashed potatoes.
YMMV
????????????????????
You can’t put gravy on the duchesse! Thanksgiving turkey is simply a means of making gravy and dressing, and mashed potatoes are simply a vehicle for eating gravy. 🙂
Hear hear!
I was just pondering this some more, and now I wonder if I will have oven space for the duchesse? Hmm. That said, I would eat them with gravy without a second thought . . .
Showing my ignorance, but what are duchesse potatoes?
They’re sort of like a twice-baked potato casserole – you boil and mash the potatoes, then mix them with egg yolks, sour cream, sometimes cheese, and bake them. You can make them a day ahead, which is why I am tempted to make them.
Yum. I vote for these.
The duchesse potatoes sound wonderful. But that’s coming from someone who is pretty indifferent to mashed. Sacrilege, I know. I originally has roasted potatoes in the menu for my wedding buffet, but my husband-to-be made a very strong appeal for mashed. They were a hit.
I’m all about the stuffing. And the gravy.
Oh Lord, I have to call my mom and my MIL about hosting T’giving. (I do have a turkey breast in the freezer, but I pretty much always do, so that’s covered. Now to buy a ham, because that’s the way we roll.)
I have a friend who always brings a ham! He doesn’t yet know that he’s going to be seated next to my ham-loving toddler this year.
Make sure you purchase from a discount site online…the bottles sell for SIGNIFICANTLY less than retail price.
Been planning my menu this week and will start some of the shopping tonight! I was thinking of something other than mashed potatoes too, but I fear my family will be upset, so I’m going to stick with mashed for the holiday. 🙂
Agree with Bear that Thanksgiving seems to be the holiday where people are expecting “tradition”. My husband will get a little sad if I suggest that we not make certain foods for that day.
Same! I do not really love traditional Thanksgiving foods all that much, but we have to have them apparently 🙂
Well, I think I am going with traditional potatoes after all, and maybe duchesse for Christmas. I found a recipe for miso green beans and that should satisfy my need to make something different (green beans with miso butter – you can get the recipe on Bon Appetit’s site if you’re interested. I also use their duchesse potato recipe with a few alterations). Hope everyone else is enjoying their planning!
In Lolita Lempicka today and kinda wishing I still had a bit of Prada Candy in my sample pile. I don’t want a whole bottle, but you know sometimes you wake up with a particular scent on your mind and nothing else will do?
…maybe there’s still a bit in my spray sample. I’m off to check the sample boxes under P.
BTW, where do I go to complain about the new version of Firefox?
Or do I just give up and download Chrome?
Feeling the same way, and also really peeved about the new Hulu interface.
I love Chrome. So far, very reliable (way better than Explorer, for sure). Love me some Prada Candy. Despite being sweet, it has a lightness that just makes it really easy to wear.
I’ve been using Opera for the past couple of years after getting fed up with Firefox. It’s been fairly reliable, but it is also rather stripped down as far as web browsers go.
Doing the dream theme again. Last night I had a dream about which all I can remember was that I got dressed up real fancy in a shiny pink dress. So I went with Goutal’s Rose Absolue.
I love your theme, Regina! You’ve inspired me to try it tomorrow 🙂
THEMES-
– CLEANS THE PALATE
-KEEP IT SIMPLE
Wearing an essential oil blend perfume I made myself..giving myself a mini break from conventional perfumes today
that would be CLEANSE….SHEESH!!!!
I went to Lush yesterday to check out the new perfumes, but they didn’t have most of them yet. They DID have Twilight and Rose Jam, but would you believe they had sold out of Rose Jam already?
Anyway, I’m wearing a decant I got from a swap of the old Rose Jam perfume. Guess I’ll have to try again another day for my own bottle!
Sold out already?! Sheesh. I’d better get my butt to the mall sooner than planned.
It’s going to be a year-round addition, so you don’t need to rush. I just happened to have gotten impatient 🙂
That is, perfume will year-round…. not the body wash
I tried the Rose Jam spray, and it lasted 36 hours on me! You should really love Rose Jam if you’re going to wear it, because it’s not going anywhere…
Looks like they still have it online, but you probably already know that 🙂
Wearing Gabriella Chieffo Lye today, for that super clean iris vibe of freshly laundered bed sheets.
A theme for this fragrance could be “keeping it clean, wear your most clean fragrance”
SOTD: Myrrh & Tonka over Velvet Rose & Oud body oil
Woke up feeling extremely sleepy. Even two espresso shots do not seem to help…
that was me yesterday..
At least you smell great. 🙂
Fendi Theorema for me.
Ahh, you smell great!
you smell lovely! I’m kicking myself for nor buying a bottle of this when it didn’t cost an arm and a leg 😉
You can still find the minis on ebay. That’s where I got mine. I would love a full bottle, but they are hard to find even on ebay, so when I run out I’ll go with another mini.
Found a 1.7oz bottle of Theorema at Beauty Encounter for $110.
https://www.beautyencounter.com/theorema-by-fendi-for-women-156346
A few good blasts of Habanita. A new bottle, and therefore not the skankfest it used to be, but still powdery-ambery and not at all modern. It’s just great (if you like powder).
I like powder
Have we done Powder Week? I’m a little powdery today in Mitzah.
We have!
Alaia Blanche and drinking a cup of black tea.
I have not worn this scent in such a long time. I can’t even remember the last time, but it is so nice.
Such a lovely scent needs more attention 🙂
Yes, I enjoyed a sample of that one. Reminds me of Hypnotic Poison.
Yes, reminds me of it also
I was cleaning out a closet yesterday and finally found the oud extract that I bought in the old souq in Yemen in 1990. I had some oud wood, too, but couldn’t figure out how to use it in those pre-internet days and didn’t keep it. I don’t know how real the oil is. It smells good, which makes me suspicious that it isn’t real — all of the purportedly real oud perfumes I’ve smelled are unpleasant, at least at first. It’s brown, very viscous, and very concentrated.
I’ve posted this old article on oud before, but not everyone reads every day, so here goes:
http://archive.aramcoworld.com/issue/200006/the.hidden.history.of.scented.wood.htm
https://interactive.aljazeera.com/aje/2016/oud-agarwood-scent-from-heaven/index.html
Morning! You’ve probably seen this Scent from Heaven documentary but just in case. The oud expert/ dealer in the documentary has his own website and sells various oud oils. I have forgotten his name off the top of my head .think my favourite oud is the L’artisan Al Oudh.
Thanks, Kanuka! I had not seen that, and it’s very interesting.
It’s said that Al Oudh isn’t really oud, but I do enjoy wearing it when the weather and mood is just right.
Very interesting, thanks for posting 🙂
I have some of those thick dark syrupy little bottle too from the souks.
don’t want to wear them, don’t want to toss them.
PS – nice seeing that newsletter from Aramco.
Still wandering in the forest (man, this forest just goes on forever…) SOTD is Olfactive Studio Panorama… fir, green, citrus.
COTD (Cat Of The Day) is Kooky who is currently stuffed between me and the back of my chair. And whining. Not quite sure why, though I suspect he is campaigning for yogurt. Silly beastie.
My dog loves yogurt. Will KNOCK YOU DOWN for it if you’re not paying attention.
Of course, he loves bacon too, but so far he hasn’t gotten aggressive to get bacon.
My cat SmokeyToes (in my avatar) will kut you for a slice of ham. It’s all fun and games until the claws come out! 🙂
My Shih Tzu old lady beast turns into a spry pupster when she hears the lid of the cottage cheese container crack open. ????
She’s getting groomed today, and I miss having her around!
My cat is a fiend for blue cheese and olives. We have to eat them standing up, otherwise she will attack the table.
To be honest, I am also a fiend for blue cheese and olives.
All three of the cats I have will pester their humans for cheese. They are surprisingly uninterested in human food for the most part, though.
My bf has completely spoiled our kitten by giving her a taste for ice cream. Now I will never be able to enjoy a pint of Ben & Jerry’s in peace.
No interest here in yogurt, but they love cheese and tortillas!
I am in Guerlain’s No 5, LIU
Busy morning!
I have a sample of that one I haven’t broken into yet.
How do you like it please?
I would break it open, perfect weather for this.
Opulent, lots of aldehydes
Not as sweet as No 5
Liu is nice. Milder to me than no 5. I keep forgetting I have a decant of that.
Liu is beautiful!
Testing out a couple of the Maison (Cire) Trudon scents today. Starting with II (Deux). I thought it’d have more of a fraiser fir vibe, but it’s very much a green fig, Philosykos lite. Also have a feeling it’s something I’d like more as a room scent, but not perfume?
I really like that coffret! They do seem a bit “cool” for perfumes, and yet I enjoy wearing them. That’s partly because I don’t like scenting the whole room with candles or room sprays.
They really last on fabric, though, so take care in application.
Thanks for mentioning fig. I thought I was having scent hallucinations. It smelled just like DS & Durga Debaser to me.
Wearing Carner Barcelona D600 for the second day in a row. I could smell it on my scarf this morning and I could not resist wearing it again today. I am just in love with it!
That “in love” feeling happens with so many perfumes and then I loose interest and need to come back to it later on. Enjoy the honeymoon period
That happens to me many times with perfumes I think I like a lot. However, I have not experienced that so far with the ones I fall in love with. But never say never…..
I love that one too. You smell lovely!
Thank you!
perfumelover67
after reading your post yesterday I started checking out reviews of D600. ( pre – enabler mode)
Powdery came up a few times, and that’s not me. Is it powdery on you?
what do you love about it?
Apsara, D600 does not get powdery at all on me. It is a soft, sweet, smokey iris scent. The notes are very well balanced and that is what I love the most. It is almost gourmand, but it does not really fall in that category. There is a nice hint of chocolate, but very light and I do not get it all the time.
I know some people find it powdery, but that is not my case.
thank you for the lovely description.
I am sorely tempted for one last purchase of 2017.
It is really a good perfume IMHO. Let us know if you finally get! 🙂
What a description…must acquire a sample.
I DO get powdery from D600 (but I also get powdery from PHI if that is any indication of how my skin/nose reads things)….I love it, though…you might want to go with a sample before you splurge for a full bottle.
cm8
no powder from PHI at all.
Then maybe you won’t get powder from D600 🙂
Mmmm, I might wear this tomorrow!
Dealer thingy….match a perfume to an explorer/ adventurer ( could be a plant hunter/ botanist, too). In view of Nozknoz above I’ll go with Gertrude Bell and Al Oudh. Or maybe Dead of Winter with Apsley Cherry-gerrard and his Worst Journey in the World looking for emperor penguin eggs .
Love the Citanes by the way. Who has bought a packet of those, or gauloise, on their first trip to Paris …and then coughed your lungs out? Tres chic!
This is a great idea, Kanuka!
I came across this lady last night while rummaging around in Wikipedia. To escape an unhappy marriage, traveled up the Nile, into the Congo and East Africa, crossed the Sahara, and became a big game hunter. (Better than shooting her husband?) There is a new book out about her, too:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1781555923/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I208AJ2Y07PI6J&colid=1LL7074SZ7M43
this book looks like a great airplane read!
Thanks for the link.
Years ago when I was first divorced I had a lapel pin that said – I miss my ex-husband but my aim is getting better!
Sadly, those would not work well in todays universe.
Pretty funny though
That does look good.
I looked up the Henry Jacques Parfums shop that he visits in the film, and found this article about it:
http://www.scentspy.com/henry-jacques-harrods-knightsbridge-london-uk/
https://www.agarwoodconsulting.com/
Alan Mahaffey is the one I was thinking of.
I love Henry Jacques perfumes, such beauties!
What an interesting idea! Trying to think of how we can expand it a little bit for people who aren’t familiar with explorers (to keep it from turning into a research assignment).
I did the chic French thing to attempt to smoke Gitanes, total failure. Love your theme! I wonder what Beryl Markham would wear. Maybe Tabac Blond? Vol de Nuit or En Avion might be too obvious…
SOTD: Dior Feve
Something happened to my love for this one and I think it has to do with some travel I did this summer, and maybe associations with spending a lot of time in a rental car. Sad about this, but I’m still wearing it and I do like it, just not the same way.
Back to warm temps in NYC! I went out this morning with wool coat, scarf and gloves on only to start shedding it all by the time I got to the office. Arrgghhh.
That’s happened to me with a couple of perfumes, and they weren’t necessarily outright bad associations. But somehow took my love down to a more objective “like”.
I underdressed which was fine this morning but now I’m ffffreezing!
You smell fantastic! I have been fighting the urge to buy FD since last winter! If you want to swap some let me know. ????
Raining here (and probably will until April) and I’m wearing MAAI. On my to-do list is to memorize two songs for my chorus’s holiday concert that should have been done weeks ago. The concert is in three weeks and I have been remiss in keeping up with the memorization. 🙁
Oops.
Luckily I don’t have to memorize anything, but our community chorus concert is Dec. 10 and 11. Coming up fast now.
I’m with you, foxbins!! I’ve got some memorizing to do, too!
…but at least you smell great today! I love MAAI. 🙂
Spending the day in CdG Kyoto pondering about how should I use my bonus from work. Should I buy make up from Sephora or should I go for Amouage bath stuff?
Bath stuff and one perfect lipstick from Sephora. ????
I vote for this option.
Bad sentence structure: I’d suggest bath stuff from Amouage and one perfect lipstick from Sephora.
Thanks, I feel better, now.
There are some great deals on Amouage now on the discount sites.
I pretty much failed my own theme this morning lol. Decided to keep with what I’ve done on other days and match a perfume to my outfit. Since I chose a red shirt I wanted to wear a perfume that reminded me of fire. I then wanted to see if any decants in one of my more recent batches of purchasing would work. I dabbed on a bit of Puredistance Sheiduna on my upper arm because I remember being underwhelmed after a bunch of people in a FB group raved. Ok still underwhelmed, but now I needed to figure out which perfume it strongly reminded me of… seemed like something I already own. It hit me that it’s Barbara Bui! Well of course I had to do a comparison, so I ended up wearing BB today. Not fiery in the least! And there is a bit more spiciness and citrus to Sheiduna, but I still find the two quite similar.
If anyone is interested in swapping for this decant of Sheiduna, let me know at gee male (email is same as my user name). Robin, I hope it’s ok to post this.
It is ok in moderation 🙂
In one of my favorites, Noir de Noir today. Love it so much and every time I wear it I think of the trip to Vegas for my 40th, so it’s a win-win!
You smell fantastic!
Sampling Le Sillage Blanc and Totally White today. Le Sillage Blanc seems to be more of a sharp bitter green like Bandit than a white floral as the name implies. Totally White is a soft lilac scent.
Just yesterday, I was listening to a British podcast that referred to Gitanes in a way that made them sound like cigarettes. I’m very pleased that they were not making WWII/Nazi references by discussing the smoking of gypsies.
I have missed you, NST! I am no less busy today than I have been for the past while, but I would like to take some time out of my morning to tell you about how my day has gone so far (and it’s not even 10 yet).
My shoulder has been hurting for the past few days, so I haven’t gone swimming, but I thought I’d try it out this morning. When I got to the gym, I realized I had forgotten my flip flops, which means I would have to walk around the pool barefoot. No matter (stay away, foot fungus!!); I got in the pool, where I discovered that my goggles have really decided they don’t feel like keeping a seal with my face at all anymore. After a couple laps, I realized my shoulder is still in horrible shape. Moreover, a man in A DIFFERENT LANE kicked me thrice PAST the lane divider.
Then I got out of the pool and started gathering my things for a shower, whereupon I realized that, because I had been wearing a swimsuit under my clothes on the way to the gym, I had forgotten my underwear. Soooo now I’m commando. Not perfume-commando (more on that soon), real commando. Luckily, I am wearing leggings-as-pants. I used plastic wet-clothes bags as impromptu flip flops in the shower, and found that I was also out of conditioner, which kpaint insists is vital after a swim to keep one’s hair from turning into straw.
And finally, I pulled out the travel spray I had brought with me to perfume myself post-swim: Tauer l’Eau d’Epices. This is a scent my friend once described as “a port-a-potty during Christmas.” Undeterred, I decided to blind-swap for it anyway. I mean, l’eau d’epices?? What a great name for what was surely a great scent. Alas, my friend was right, so I now smell like a stale toilet with potpourri in it. Let my theme today be “worst scent you’ve ever smelled from one of your favorite houses.”
Ok, I’ve prattled on for long enough. Fun morning, eh? To top it off, it is raining barrels out there, which means I had to drive in the rain. Everyone knows Californians don’t know how to drive in the rain.
Here’s hoping my day’s experiments don’t go like my day’s workout!
Maybe your day needs to be submitted to the Guinness Book of Records. Gadzooks! By now I hope you are at home and comfy, scrubbed of your cleaning product, dry and toasty.
Haha, thanks 🙂 Unfortunately, there are still many hours between now and when I get to be comfy at home. But that’s a nice image to look forward to.
wow!
Hope you managed your way to finding some undies if you don’t like being commando. Though there is nothing wrong with giving that part of your body some air.
you win on best story of the day
It’s not so bad, actually! I’ve gotten quite used to it! But this has convinced me that I need to keep spare undies at work (and maybe socks?) (I already started stocking a spare bra at work after one of my bra straps broke off one day months ago; I spent half the day with INCREDIBLY, horrifically lopsided boobs, and it was funny, if mortifying, to watch the guys on my team try to keep their gazes fixed on my face).
There’s nothing better than a 5am swim, it’s such a great start to your day!
Of course, now you have a great reason to shop at lunch for new pretty things?? 😉
I beg to differ! Sleeping in a warm bed at 5am is definitely way better in my book???? But I do admire those who have that kind of motivation.
I am definitely with you there.
5am!!! I’m afraid I don’t have your discipline. An early morning swim for me starts at ~7:30 🙂 But I’m very impressed by you.
Thanks! I have always needed strenuous physical activity to clear my brain, even since I was a kid. Reading and yoga are wonderful too, but there’s nothing like a good rigorous sweat to clear out the cobwebs!
What a wild ride you’ve had today – surely you’ve met your Bizarre Quota for the rest of the year! And “Everyone knows Californians don’t know how to drive in the rain” cracked me up. I lived in LA for a couple of years and LOVED when it rained because everyone else on the roads completely freaked out and actually slowed down to a (sub)reasonable speed. The rest of the time I was terrified of the LA freeways, but since I’m an Oregonian, driving in the wet is second nature.
So true. I would not drive on the freeway when it rained in LA. My mother grew up in LA and NEVER drove a freeway in her life.
Ahahaha. Traffic on the 65 mph highways had slowed to ~50 mph (vs. normal speeds of 70 – 80). Part of me was a bit impatient, but the other part of me was relieved, since I couldn’t see that far ahead anyway.
Oof, that’s one heck of a morning. I’m sorry you didn’t have a good perfume experience to make up for the soreness, kicking, lack of underwear and flip flops and everything else. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!
Thanks, sistine 🙂 Here’s hoping!!
Lordy, Koyel! Didn’t you forget a shirt or pants last time?! Sounds like a day, indeed. I do think you deserve a reward. Hope your shoulder feels better.
Hahaha Elisa, your memory is too good!!!!! Yes, the first time I went swimming at the gym (instead of at my apartment complex), I forgot a shirt!!! I had to wear a sweatshirt until a friend of mine, who was coming to work late, could bring me a spare shirt 🙂 …Actually that reminds me; I’m not positive I ever gave her that shirt back. Oof.
Anyway, I haven’t forgotten a shirt since (and anyway, I now stock a spare shirt in lab). Hopefully, this means I won’t ever forget underwear again, either!
Update 1: Going commando in leggings isn’t so bad. The leggings are very opaque, luckily 🙂 and my top is quite long anyway. Most of the time, I don’t even remember it. However, every time I go to the bathroom, I am unpleasantly surprised by having only one thing to pull down.
Update 2: Tauer l’Eau d’Epices has vanished (hoorayyyy scent-eating skin!), and I have given myself multiple sprays of the exquisite Hermes Ambre Narguile. Many thanks to the people who swapped me for those 4-mL mfr samples!
Oy! Sounds like you need a complete go bag in your car!
Tiholta Vanilla today for me. All the sweetness without the calories 🙂
That’s how I feel when I wear Angel Sucre 🙂
Hope your days get better as well as your shoulder.
Argh! This was for Koyel.
I am proceeding at random through the bottles on my dresser or decants in a box. Today it’s Wrappings, which transports me from a gray, damp day to California summer.
Reminds me, Wrappings should have its brief annual availability soon!
Yes, it’s in! I asked about it at Clinique in the fall, and a lovely older SA pulled out a pencil and a little notebook and put my name and number in it and said she would call me when it’s in – now I know it’s in because I’ve walked by the counter and have seen it, but I am still waiting for my phone call 🙂
Good to know, thanks!
Terre d’Hermès, I think its the Eau fraiche flanker (white cap, a friend donated me his bottle with 1 ml left in it, he knows I like testing new fragrances). Its okay but not memorable. I prefer the ‘regular’ Terre.
And now I crave something more intense….
I loved Terre until one day, I was sitting on a plane and next to me sat a finely dressed gentleman who must have spritzed himself like twenty times with Terre, because I almost suffocated, I mean, I love perfume, but this was just too much. The flight was short, luckily. After that I donated by bottle to my brother.
Aww what a bummer.
I had someone ruin Cool Water for me that way.
(Though I was not a huge fan of the scent to begin with)
Same as yesterday, madly layering Atelier travel sprays, plus a bit of Blenheim Bouquet as well.
It is cloudy and muggy here in Houston, but I smell fresh and crisp.
Today’s theme-
Wear something you “borrow” from your SO/child/parent when they are away….????
Sotd: Cuir Améthyste from the DH stash. While the cat’s away….
that is a great theme! Most of the full bottles in my house “technically do not belong to me (even though I bought all of them as gifts for family members-LOL!)
SOTD is Idole. forgot how lovely the fragrance and bottle are.
Yep, you smell great!
Pouring rain today so I went eith Cocoa Tuberose by Providence Perfume for tbe cozy factor.
Today’s SOTD is Chanel’s Coromandel. Perfect for a rainy day!
I love to wear Coromandel when it’s raining. Also sometimes I like to layer it with Sycomore to change it up.
That is a great idea! Will have to find my Sycomore sample and try that out. 🙂
Annick Goutal – Nuit et Confidences. nothing ground breaking, but a pretty boozy vanilla, just right for this grey weather.
Haven’t tried that one yet but it is on my vanilla list.
My theme is immediate sample love, leading to FB but rarely wear. Tolu! And lots of it! I think i also rarely wear it because it goes with the theme of significant other not loving it. It’s just not his taste. I’ve put my gorgeous bottle on my dresser, so I hope to wear it more often this winter.
Those Zum products look wonderful. The Mazel Zum is intriguing. Almond and citrus.
Oh, and I agree with floragal. Not too soon for Christmas music. The Charlie Brown album is a great compromise.
I love this album!
Ha! Yes, it is a good compromise. I don’t listen to Christmas music since I didn’t grow up with Christmas, but I did grow up with A Charlie Brown Christmas????
And you smell great!
Tolu is so good!
Today I’m wearing Arabian Musk Oil under Musc Tonkin.
Gorgeous!
My husband went on a business trip last week and got sick from the flight and then passed it on to me. Unfortunately, I got hit much harder than he did. So fortunate to work a job where taking sick time isn’t an issue. Haven’t worn any perfume since Saturday. Continuing on my sample mission. Wearing Juliette Has a Gun Another Oud. Luckily before I got sick I was able to hit Barney’s and get a sample of Frederic Malle The Promise. I like it, and think you most likely will enjoy it if you like Guerlain Rose Nacree. If you don’t like that Middle Eastern style sharpness it may be a pass. I get Rose, pink pepper, and a interesting note of green apple on the opening.
Hope you feel better soon.
I also hope you can make the NST meet up at SCP in early December. 🙂
Yes, I’ll try to make an appearance!
Oh, I hope you get better quickly!
Feel better soon!
Get well soon! Sounds like the crud has started to make its rounds now. 🙁
I hope you feel better soon. Whatever it is, it hit your household hard. 🙁
Aww. Bummer, but glad you’re feeling a little better. Think I’ll have to go give The Promise a sniff. For any 80s kids out there, that name gives me an ear worm.
That’s exactly how I ended up with the plague, so sorry you are sick too. I hope it passes faster than mine did!
I’m wearing Misia EDP today which is darned nice. I wore it previously with the EDT and found the Misia EDP reminds of 1932 EDT actually.
My next mash up will be Misia EDP and 1932 EDT probably coming to a daily poll near you next week. 😉
Interesting, would not have thought them that close!
Aime’s Moi, today. It’s the only Caron I own, but I think it’s hard to beat if u love both violet & anice.
This has been on my to buy list forever but I am holding out for vintage.
Yep! You smell great.
Love the theme and accompanying photo!
SOTD SB Gypsy AND got a compliment????????
Nice!
Love at first sniff: today’s perfume is Mojave Ghost. I tried my sample, thought “Mmmm! So that’s what alien shampoo smells like!”, realized that I had an interplanetary shampoo hole in my collection, and promptly spent my Christmas amazon gift cards to get a bottle.
This week has seemingly lasted forever. One more day to a bit of relaxing!
No kidding about the week being interminable! I’m so ready for my 3 day weekend! Now, if only it would stop pouring buckets…
LOL! I might have that hole, too. But that’s a good description of Mojave G. Though, sampling it did not prompt me to spend cash. I’m still in the market to fill that void…
Dealer’s choice theme for today: “Giving credit where credit is due”. I originally wanted to call it “Blame it on Bear”, but that sounded a little harsh for someone who has only sponsored a few of my lemmings. I don’t think that is exactly blame-worthy.
SOTD = Amouage Lyric Woman, from the sample stash. I had to grab a sample of this after Bear’s description of it earlier this fall. Liking it quite a bit, and it suits the weather where I am at today.
or your theme could be CARPE DIEM….follows Bear’s daily advice by seizing the day and buying that lemming …..
Aw shucks, thank you Jalapeno !!!
You can blame me !!!
LOLOL
😉
(On laptop or else there would have been a bunch of emojiis here !!)
Late today. Very busy work day which is actually unusual. I usually have pockets of down time. Anyway, I wore a few drops of no 5 oil which I’m sort of hoarding, topped off with a few dabs of no 5 edp (current formulation)
Theme: From Hate it to It’s in my Top 5, or Voted Back onto the Island
Seriously can’t remember why I hated this stuff. Though, I’ve tried several vintage versions and I don’t like the vintage, still.
Great theme idea!
So you don’t find number no 5 too much for work? I guess it’s a question of how much you put on, right? It seems like a “fancy” perfume to me. I like it, but I’ll have to revisit it with an attempt at “fresh eyes”, hard to do with such an iconic perfume.
My theme is a scent that makes you instantly happy. I’m in Miss Dior (from my splurge vintage bottle). I’m off tomorrow, but have to work Monday. Then I’m off for 3 glorious weeks vacation!! Woohoo, makes me happy!
Enjoy your long vacation!
Thank you!! I sure will. It’s kinda become an annual now so it’s nice to be able to look forward to something fun. It makes up for all the torture at work.
Late again. Can’t wait ’til after tomorrow because I have the entire next week off!
It was raining this morning and I originally wanted to wear JM Blackberry and Bay but I was not feeling it. Then Hiram Greene Voyage jumped into my hands but boo hiss I completely forgot that the bottle to which I decanted it has a wonky sprayer so all I got was a spit. Vanille 44 to the rescue and very appropriate for a rainy day. I believe missionista wore it earlier in the week when it rained. The theme could be “Rainy Day Friday perfume”.
Congrats on the well-deserved week off. Enjoy!
Just want to double check you got my email from earlier this week.
Thanks! I did!
TY!!
Yay for vacation! Love Vanille 44. It is subtle but has a lovely wafting presence, just like Gaiac 10. Sometimes I wear them together.
