It's Almost-Friday, and it's Use Less Stuff Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: the very mild, shaving-cream / sorta-fougère, Peau de Pierre by Starck Paris.
Reminder: 11/3 will be Fougère Friday...wear a fougère, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Dr Skud flyswatter (designed by Philippe Starck) is $19 at Hive Modern.
Another incense day for me wearing CDG Kyoto.
Thanks God is almost Friday. Looking forward to it anxiously!
You smell lovely! I miss Kyoto.
I almost wore Avignon. You smell great.
Thank you! Avignon is a great incense perfume and a big favorite.
I hope your week is calming down.
Almost there….
Kyoto is my favorite incense perfume. My mom is also hooked on it!
Kyoto is so good and very meditative and relaxing. I am so glad your mom also loves it.
I love all of CdG’s incense perfumes.
The whole CdG incense series is really good. The least interesting for me is Zagorsk. Avignon my favorite.
That CDG was a great series. And Kyoto was beautiful.
It is indeed really beautiful!
Smelling great today! CdG does incense really well.
Thank you! I reapplied it a while ago and I am really enjoying it.
Vintage Shalimar EDT and a spray of the Light on the back of my neck. 2 samples thanks to a generous NST
The vintage is gorgeous and makes me want to seek out a bottle
it is different then the newer isn’t it? You smell great!
its very soft on me, sexy and powdery
Ahhhhhh sooooo good!
Thank you !
I love vintage Shalimar edt, u smell gorgeous. One of my favourite new tea discovery’s is Earl Grey Creme, by Bluebird teas, it is very Shalimar like!
AH! I will I could transport myself to the UK and pick some up
I am gradually recovering from a particularly rough bout of the flu so my nose isn’t working well but I’m wearing a sample of Wool by Commodity, for something to do. Fragrantica describes it as an oriental fougere and it might be: I can’t really tell. I don’t hate it, anyway — what I can smell of it.
I’m glad you are on the mend, and I have read such mixed reviews about the Commodity line that I’ll have to trek to Sephora one of these days to check it out. Wool is one that sounds interesting.
They are hit or miss with me, at least the ones I’ve tried. I do like that black ones better than the white overall. Wool is one that I do enjoy.
Flu seems early this year — glad you are getting better!
Twins!! I like Wool – it’s easy to wear!! It’s one of my favs in this line, or better said it’s one of the three that I will wear from Commodity. But I haven’t tried any of the platinum yet…
Hope you feel better soon! I’m sick too so I can really sympathize.
SOTD is TF Noir de Noir layered over Black Orchid body oil. No dean interviews today so I can wear a bit of stronger fragrance. 🙂
Oh my! I bet that smells wonderful! I love Noir de Noir and Black Orchid, though I’ve never tried the body oil.
Yum!!!
Delicious!
I saw your reply about Jicky, your husband and I agree (though his issue may be the civet, mine is the lavender) .
????
Hi Bear,
Unfortunately, it’s the lavender that he hates.
Civet smells like powdery fuzzy kittens on me, pretty much anything with that note is a win with the hubs.
I have the current Jicky parfum and that is ok if it’s in the far drydown, I usually dab after he’s left for work, and it’s barely noticeable by the end of the day – but it’s still not as beautiful (to me) as my 1990’s bottle of PdT.
My husband can’t stand lavender either.
For the life of me, I don’t get the aversion to lavender – I love it…
Ooooh, I didn’t know there was a Black Orchid body oil. Uh-oh. It sounds delicious.
Good morning Y’all…..
Wearing Commodity Platinum Bergamot. The notes are bergamot, patchouli, and vetiver….but all I get is EARL GREY TEA. Straight up Earl Grey! I love it!
I love Earl Grey.
That sounds really good. I must try it the next time I’m at Sephora.
add milk and sugar !
Maybe a squirt of Philosophy Fresh Cream on top would duplicate that? I’ll have to try!
Now that sounds yummy! I have a Sephora close to work, I should try it!
Sounds like something yummy for next summer.
Dreary fall weather here today. Perfect for Chergui from my recent split. Thanks Koyel!
The weather here is in the 70’s and gorgeous
Send some my way! Enjoy your gorgeous day with the babies!
Dang it, I somehow missed the Chergui split. I would have been all over that!
It IS good stuff, isn’t it?!
Sorry, KellyC 🙁 I didn’t do it during the normal splitmeet, because I freaked out and worried it would disappear from the discounters before the splitmeet came around.
Twins! Chergui is such a perfect Autumn scent.
🙂 It really is perfect for fall! Glad you’re getting good use out of it!
SOTD is Naja – so far I have just experienced the opening. It is so unusual.
The name of this perfume drew me to it as it is also the symbol used in all Native American Squash blossom necklaces, which are very important & beautiful (the semi circle piece at the base) in their culture. I am really curious to see how this changes, the melon note is quite fresh, and bright. I had smoke, and it seems to be changing again. I am intrigued.
Volutes eep today, finally getting cooler which is my favorite
edp darn spell check
Funny – it IS an eep for me, in that it really does NOT work on my skin. Envious of all of you who can wear it.
I do it once and then wait a few days. It was oneI bought on impulse and liked at first but then over wore it
I like this new word “eep” and plan to use it in my descriptions from now on, wherever appropriate! “Nope–this one’s an eep!”
Hah! Happy to help. 🙂
community project idea – revisit an “EEEEP” fragrance 🙂
Wearing TF Black Violet
Oh, I love that one. I don’t wear it often, but it’s really nice.
Now I’m wondering where I put my BV mini…
Cuir de Lancolme
You smell great.
ha! knew you would say that 🙂
unfortunately it has the lifespan of a gnat on my scent eating skin…put it on at 6am and by 8am it was gone..took my little sample vial to work to re-apply…and now it is empty.
I will delve into my Romanian hand crafted huge “powder case” which is where I now keep ALL of my samples at work on my desk and refresh with something else later on.
and now I have freshened up with Bottega Venetta Pour Homme…forgot I had this one in my sample stash…wonder if it counts as a fougere? Fragrantica describes it as “aromatic”
Use Less Stuff – one step toward Owning Less Stuff. I’m inspired! SOTD is 24, Faubourg, one of my desert-island, save-from-the-fire, never-be-without scents.
I am taking a step towards that by not buying the fancy flyswatter 😉
LOL
😀
I’ve been doing room purges over the past year, in the hopes of both havng less stuff and using less stuff. Yet, the flyswatter calls to me….
I actually have that flyswatter in gray and can attest that it works great–the best flyswatter I have had so far.
Figures. I think I use my flyswatter once a year? So I will have to live with what I have 🙂
It is so dreary here in the Midwest and has been for ages it seems, plus I’ve been stuck in the house for too long, so today is going to be use MORE stuff day for me. Wearing lots of Angel Muse, red lipstick and rings on (almost) every finger. Bring it, November! Have a great day, everyone 🙂
Yes, wear it and sing it, sister! : )
You smell delicious!
Triple strength coffee
Long workout
Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme (1994)
A gift from a former paramour it was his “Pavlovian nuit d’amour” scent, if I wore it, the day’s activities were scheduled.
LOLOLOL ????
It is classic, I have good memories, but I don’t like the aroma.
Lavender
Tobacco leaves
Clary sage Tarragon
Geranium
Lemons
I like the community projects, and this will probably garner a compliment or two today, but!!!
Broken record alert!
I don’t like lavender

Fixed!
Thanks Robin!
????
I’m not a lavender fan either.
you and bear are , in this respect, my evil scent twins as I could BATHE in lavender……love it love it love it
send all of that lavender my way (along with coffee and any sweets 🙂 !!!!)
Not a lavender fan either and my husband especially doesn’t like it.
I’m wearing Stash SJP.
And you smell great.
You do smell great! I saw on the Ulta website that there’s also a Stash hair mist, which sounds nice this time of year.
Bvlgari Black today. I can hear the wind howling, and I’m about to take my dog on a walk.
Use Less Stuff – interesting, I was just reading that part of the problem with waste and stuff here (U.S.) is that we don’t even use what we already have – we throw out so much, including food and clothes. So my goal is to make sure that I use and enjoy / eat / wear what I buy. And then maybe that will help me make better choices as I’m buying. Not trying to sound preachy here – I’m saying it ‘out loud’ here because I want to make sure that I’m committed!
second paragraph 🙂 (I would give you a “thumbs up” but don’t know how to add that icon!)
Hi CM8,
I’ve been following your approach to your fragrances with interest.
It’s not that any of this is new to me, but it was certainly brought home on our recent move from Denver (after 25 yrs, 3 kids) to the Pacific NW. Whose is ALL this stuff????? Ack, it’s ours…
Oh I am right there with you every time I head down to my basement and look at all of our ‘stuff”. Did you end up discarding or donating a lot?
My best friend turned me on to minimalism and while I am not following it religiously I am trying to put some thought into the reason behind why I have accumulated all of this stuff and why I continue to get that “itch” to accumulate more (this falls into the acquisition of perfume as well!!). I have had some wonderful philosophical conversations about this with my friend and while I haven’t been perfect it has helped me quite a bit. I find that when I “report” my behavior to her it helps to keep me on track…if that makes any sense 🙂
You are admirable for pondering this. I wish I could do so as well. When I look at my closets and drawers and boxes of papers and things, I just sigh, especially at the thought of a possible move in the next year or two. I ought to start with a bit at a time but it just seems too overwhelming.
You smell great today. Bvlgari Black is fun. Sometimes in my head I call it BB8 because Star Wars.
😀
From living in SF for six years, and I am not sure where you live, but they really have the whole recycling save-the-earth-and-your-sanity -down pat. When I moved to NYC I found it was very easy to keep up that lifestyle. At the green markets you can they have textile recycling. Clean and dry clothing, paired shoes, linens, handbags, belts, and other reusable textiles can I all be brought there. This is great when you have something that can’t be donated to goodwill or other second hand stores.
The second thing is compost your food scraps. At the same green market fruit and vegetable scraps, non-greasy food scraps (rice, pasta, bread, cereal etc.), coffee grounds & filters, tea bags, egg and nut shells, pits, cut or dried flowers can all be brought there..
How do you collect compost in a small apartment in NYC? We store it in our freezer in a bag.
Sorry to go on and on about this, but you don’t have to “throw things out” like you mentioned, there is always another way to dispose of things and be conscious of your carbon footprint.
I will stop there!
Oh sorry and thanks for clarifying – didn’t mean that one should ever throw things out. We moved from Colorado and I’ve composted/donated/recycled for years. I composted in my own yard and we had compost pick-up as well and the same goes here in Seattle! There was usually very little in my garbage can.
I was trying to say that we (meaning people) tend to accumulate beyond our needs. And we often increase the garbage in the world just with our own buying tendencies – our ‘fast fashion’ proclivity increases the landfill tremendously, for example and is wasteful just in the manufacturing process alone. I’m trying to work on just buying what I need and will use over and over – whether it’s new or recycled. And I was really just saying it here as a way to reinforce my own commitment – like CM8 says – reporting to her friend helps keep her honest.
yes, I wish we could universally hold each other accountable <3
Have you seen ‘Minimalism’ on Netflix? It’s an interesting film.
Not yet, but it’s on my list. A couple of friends have mentioned it to me previously. Did you like it? Agree or disagree with it?
You smell super in Black. And I am adopting a similar philosophy on clothes, food etc. since I moved and it feels great.
It is enlightening to look at your stuff all at once. Our house is teensy and we try to not bring anything in without something going out and, as you said, really use what we have. My mom is 90 and such a packrat, I keep putting the “good” sheets on her bed and her meals on the “good” dishes but she won’t do it on her own which saddens me a little. The natural thrift of growing up in the Depression can be useful in a lot of other ways, though, they were natural recyclers and made the most of mending and “making do.”
Ha – ditto for my mom who is 92. “Saving it for good” – I hear that a lot! Agree – use all those lovely things now, but it’s hard for them.
Is there a FreeCycle group in your area? I love ours. It’s a great way to pass along used but still useful things, directly to someone who wants or needs it. We have quarterly swap meets and I usually pick a room to sort thru starting a few weeks before the swap meet. It’s way easier to tackle just one room, or even just one closet, rather than the whole shebang.
Good for you to adopt this philosophy 🙂 Moving always makes you take a hard look at your piles of stuff.
SOTD is the gorgeous Trayee. My decent is almost gone and so I will soon be forced to make a decision: travel set, full bottle, or another decant? If only it wasn’t so spendy.
You smell wonderful and I’m right there with you, just a little left in my decant. Much as I love it, there are so many good perfumes to love that I might move on. I think 🙂
I’m wearing Oliver Peoples this morning, and it’s just perfect. I had to hug a crying student and she sniffled out “You smell really good”, so that made me feel happy.
I find “use less stuff” day kind of confusing – does it mean I should ignore the stuff I already have?
Awwww, love that your crying student told you you smelled good!!
And agree about the Use Less Stuff day – I would say use ALL the stuff you have. And then don’t buy more ‘stuff,’ just what you’ll use (speaking to myself here). But I don’t know if that’s what the creators of the day would say!
Aww, how sweet. You do smell great.
I take it to mean be less wasteful in all sorts of ways. Need less, buy less, waste less, have a smaller footprint?
Love your story — mostly that you hugged the crying student but also that she liked your perfume.
SOTD: I (Amber Oriental) – Clive Christian’s Private Collection.
I am still thinking hard about what to wear for tomorrow! I don’t believe I have something of a true fougère…
Feel free to cheat!
In a work meeting this morning so went with office friendly comfort scent, Barbara Bui. My first wear of it this season and I’m loving it!
yay for BB. So comfy. I need to wear it soon.
SOTD is Molinard Vanille Marine (oriental fougere according to Fragrantica). However, a true fougere is supposed to have lavender, so I layered it over Lush Sleepy body potion, which has two fougere notes: lavender and tonka. I think I like this combination.
Oh perfect! Make your own fougere.
SotD = MEM again, and it’s from a sample so I’m using less 😉
Enjoying it just as much today. I love lavender. MEM is a grand kitchen-sink perfume with most of the traditional citrus top notes subverted by lavender. Nice.
Yay for Use Less Stuff Day, so glad to see this mentioned on NST. I grew up in a comfortably frugal home, and those habits have stayed with me. I learned to mend my clothes, wear them out, then cut them up for other uses. Old t-shirts make great washable/reusable dusting cloths.
My mum carefully managed the kitchen so she rarely threw away food. We cooked from scratch (less packaging waste). We ate leftovers (and loved them). Cold pizza for breakfast? Yes, please!
I loved this fun and friendly effort to teach kids to use this:
https://zerowastehome.com/2017/11/look-first-zero-waste-october-challenge/
Thanks for sharing that link!
What a great idea to teach kids
🙂 Yep, gotta teach ’em young then hope it sticks.
I have tried very hard to be less wasteful in the kitchen. I cannot say I rarely throw away food, but I throw away far less than I used to.
That’s great! I think food waste is the best and easiest place to start.
You smell so good, and that zero waste challenge is a great idea!
One decision i made a while ago was ‘no more fast fashion’ (like h&m or zara), and be sensible about portions when cooking and when buying groceries (too much of something and it just goes to waste here).
All small steps, but hey you need to start somewhere.
Thanks, MEM is treating me well. 🙂
Agree about the small steps. I am trying to break a habit of buying too much fruit. I feel silly when it can not be eaten before it spoils.
I could hardly sleep last night after all the excitement of the Astros World Series victory! What a series, and what a happy event for our town!
SOTD is Dior Eau Sauvage, which I found in a drawer of samples. I put it on thinking it must be a fougere, but it seems it’s not. Anyway, it’s rather nice and I’m enjoying its citrus-y goodness. I’m still looking for another sample that I have that really will fit the criteria for tomorrow.
Congratulations! It was a good series. Astros are tough as nails.
So super happy about the win! Congratulations! I saw on Fragrantica that the new(ish) Savauge is a fougere. I wouldn’t have thought so.
I’m not sure what version of it I have. It’s an official sample but it doesn’t give any details, just the title and DIOR. Although I am not usually one to pay attention to gender in perfume selection, this is one that I honestly felt was too masculine for me. I’ve now covered it up with Portrait of a Lady.
I was so happy for Houston!
Congratulations!
Brian McCann reminds me of watching games with my taciturn Father, so I’m happy the ‘stros won ! ⚾⚾⚾
????
Totally happy that the Astros won. (Nothing against the Dodgers, really, but good news for Houston!!)
Congratulations Astros!
Caught up on the posts of the last few days this morning and Angela’s inspired me to retry Mitsouko, but I couldn’t find my sample… Can’t remember whether I finished it, or it dried out or if I passed it along to someone else. Oh well. So I drained my sample of Azemour instead, which I had only tried in Spring and Summer. She was right, it does fit very well in Autumn weather too! I think I even prefer it, when I’m not craving oranges as much as a bright chypre fragrance.
(Don’t tell Angie, or maybe don’t tell anyone!, but you smelled better in the Azemour)
????
I read that as ‘sofa fougere’ LOL!
I’m in Le Labo Labdanum 18 today. Yum!
Ha, that’s coming up soon!
Well, weekend starts tomorrow, so everyone will get to enjoy their sofa again 😀
And I read “useless stuff day”
LOL — that too.
I only have one fougere so I’m saving that for tomorrow. Today I’m wearing SL Vitriol d’Oeillet.
I only have one too
Those flyswatters are rather disturbing.
I am STILL going round and round with my mom on the task of getting rid of my grandmother’s stuff, 11 years after her death. Bookworm and I helped Mom go through several boxes of Christmas items, and we did fill up the back of the car with thrift store donations, plus two large bags of trash. But we didn’t touch the three full bookshelves. Or the china hutch. Or… you get the idea. Eleven years we’ve been doing this, and Mom still feels massive guilt over removing her mother’s possessions from the house. SIGH.
SOTD is Lolita Lempicka Eau de Minuit again.
That sounds very tough emotionally. I am lucky in a way that my mom who is a retired librarian has every item in her house somehow labeled as to where it came from and who it maybe should go to one day. She might have done this naturally but also she had to help clean out the homes of her own mother, mil, and three great aunts. BIG jobs.
Scentof the day is Masque Milano Tango. So yummy
Mmm I love Tango.
Had to return a few things at Sephora this morning. I am wearing Eau des Merveilles Bleue on one hand, and Prada Amber on the other. I wish the EdM worked for me, but really none of them do. The only Hermes that I can wear, so far is Galop. I took home a sample of the Prada. Congratulation Houston Astro fans!
So funny how we are different in our favorites etc. I find that Hermes as a whole is a house that I really can rely on for ones I love. I have not tried the Bleue yet, but love the original EdM and other versions. Yay Astros!
I’ll say thank you on their behalf! to be honest the game last night was kind of anti-climactic after being ahead for the entire time, and especially after that duel in Game 5. There were loud cheers audible around my house and some fireworks shot off, and a big parade tomorrow. The big sporting goods store had enormous mile-long lines in the wee hours last night–they opened after the game ended. I’ve now ordered my championship T-shirt online, so I can skip the crowds.
Chanel Boy is my fougere of the day. This one is nice and simple, easy to like.
Nice one. I like it a lot.
Yes, Boy is definitely the easy way out of this annoying project!
You know, I really like the fougere genre. I like lavender. I like the traditional barbershop smell, just not necessarily on me. But I love the herbaceous, aromatic, bracing, yet warm qualities. They’re nostalgic perfumes.
I like a good shaving cream fougere myself. But the category isn’t my favorite, and it is more confusing / less intuitive as a fragrance family than most. I think most women especially don’t know what a fougere is…
Not annoying! It made me do some research, dig around in the sample stash, and try new things. That’s always a good thing. ????
Well good then!
Wearing Sarah Jessica Parker’s Stash – an interesting find yesterday at TJ Maxx. They had assorted gift sets for short money. I spritzed last night and could still smell it a little before my morning shower, but a spritz before getting dressed today has not lasted at all. Odd.
Wow! What lucky find at TJ Maxx! The Stash collection is exclusive to Ulta, so I wonder if all of those were the leftover stock from last year?
No shame in your game- I get my beloved Boucheron from TJ Maxx and it’s usually from the previous year.
Oh nice find!
I found a 30ml + Elixir at Marshall’s yesterday. I sprayed some in the afternoon and could smell it faintly this morning. I’m going to see how layering both affects the longevity.
SotD is Vetiver extraordinaire.
Oh I am still at work but sun is almost gone (its 5 pm). 🙁
Those darker days are somewhat tiring. But its a good excuse to invest in some cosy candles 🙂
Probably not a good thing to mention on this Use Less day but I just received a Le Labo shower gel, Hinoki.
(While we already have two bottles of other stuff in the shower)
To me, buying lots of shower gels is no more wasteful than buying one at a time, so long as you are going to use them up and not use “extra” for your shower because you have more.
This is my argument, anyway. Having choice, so long as you don’t waste, doesn’t seem problematic to me.
🙂
Ah yes so true. I use them all up, and do not use huge amounts of it, so i guess no harm done.
enjoy and let us know how it smells in the shower!
Will do!
Btw someone from NST ‘lemming’d me into’ buying it haha… i just cant remember who…
I had a coupon for 15 euros so I ‘only’ had to pay 7 for this bottle. 😉
Methinks it was ElisaP
I was initially reaching for an incense today but ended up in Cierge de Lune. I was iffy about it in the summer (maybe the humidity in Alabama?) but I am really enjoying it today.
Finally found something I have for the project tomorrow (thanks, Hajusuuri for the oriental fougere mention) so yay!
Oh, I should wear it again too!
Really, really enjoying Chergui today! I originally bought it for my hubby, but I think I will be ‘borrowing’ it often from now on!
Yum! That’s a lovely one????
I wanted soapy. I know that’s often a pejorative statement. But Fiori di Capri is like a beautiful Italian soap to me. I switched out my summer scents from the dresser to put out the cozier, smokey, leathery scents. But on this relatively warm day, I just don’t want any of that. I want clean. Maybe it’s the lingering stuffiness from my cold.
My mom is incredibly fond of the smell of good soap in perfume form.
I’ve developed a taste for some clean, soapy scents. Used to hate them.
FM Superstitious is soapy!
Chilly and some drizzle in Southern California
A complete reversal from last weeks record breaking heat.
Testing YSL Caftan post shower.
Have spent 6 months getting the useless stuff out the door. Feels good.
And we are weirdly warm again on the east coast!
Wearing Tom of Finland today. TF Sable Smoke. DVF nude slides. I have 45 in-store samples from Scent Bar that I’m going to wear everyday until they’re finished.
45 is impressive!
Wow, super late again. Flyswatter. Hmmm. Never would have guessed that.
I’m charging right on through with l’Elephant again. It’s what I guess Oregonians call typical winter weather: chilly, rainy, and every shade of grey, and this pachyderm warms me up. We are weather hostages in the van today. ABT, Hot Tea and coffee, and down time is not too much to complain about in light of other things.
Spent some time looking up birds I have been seeing out here in the leftie world and finally identified one that is very common- Stellar’s Jay. Beautiful deep indigo body that ombrés into a blackish head and neck with two little cobalt exclamation points between its eyes. Just gorgeous but very skittish. Haven’t met a cougar or bear yet, but there is always tomorrow. Not too concerned about bears, but cougars are super stealthy. T-Rex would make a lovely Amuse-Bouche. Yikes!
Smell well! ✌????
Hey! In my neck of the woods (so to speak).
Common birds are no less beautiful for their numbers.
Indeed! I’m hanging out in Salem for the next 3 months or so. You live in a gorgeous state! And I agree whole heartedly about beautiful common birds (or anything else for that matter).
That part of the river valley is is especially lovely. Salem is the capital and as such is a little dull, but there is great architecture to see and some really good cafes and such for a night out.
I enjoy Stellar’s Jays. We put food out for them when visiting Tahoe. Entertaining to watch. Especially when they’d hop up to the sliding glass door and peck at it….more food!
Yes, they seem to be quite opportunistic. I ate a pumpkin muffin outside the other morning and suddenly had about 10 Stellars in an adjacent tree just waiting for crumbs.
Am late to this!
1) Ha! ‘Use Less Stuff’ day? Ha! A better thing for me is to ‘Use What You have Today instead of Buying’ day!
2) Am in TF Noir pour Femme – both the emulsion and perfume. I have a head cold (because that is exactly what a person needs after surgery) and felt a need for something strong and sexy. Plus, it is kinda chilly and gray, but with the rich coloring of the changing leaves, so this is actually perfect.
Sorry about the cold! Does seem unfair right after surgery.
I got a sample of Replica: At the Barbershop from Sephora last month and decided to give it a whirl, as it seemed fougere-adjacent. It delivers what it promises. Not quite my thing, but I’m going to try to convince my husband to replace his Clubman Special Reserve with this, as it is much nicer imo.
Also I just bought one of those flyswatters as an Xmas gift for a friend. Thanks for the idea, Robin!
Oh good! Hope they like it.
Those flyswatters…I can’t imagine living in a place that would require a flyswatter anymore. If the kitty doesn’t get them, I just whack them with a rolled-up newspaper but a fly in the house is rare nowadays. We had them when I was a child, back when A/C wasn’t in homes and us kids would be running in and out through the screen door in summer.
SOTD is TDC Jasmin de Nuit over No. 5 body oil.
Well, you obviously don’t live nearby. ???? I think that I own three fly swatters at home and one at work. We have an egg farm in my area which has a giant barn-like structure attached to compost the manure.
We rotate cattle around fields for various reasons, but I notice that flies in the house are *much* more common when there happen to be cows in the field closest to the house.
They happen to be there right now, so I’ve been swatting.
They bite thus time of year too.
I had a fly hijack my front dash for over a 100 miles in Nebraska, which coincidentally smells like cows. It sat on the dash, rubbing its little fly paws together, watching me through it little fly eyes, MOCKING ME! I tried opening windows to suck it out, but could not get rid of the bugger! He would zip around, then return to the dash, face me so I could see him through the steering wheel, and commence his daily ablutions. It was a very smug fly and I disliked it intensely.
You should write a book. Love this anecdote.
Flies are irritating. We had one in our apartment a short while back…14th floor. I was tempted to get a flyswatter, but I think it found its way back out the window. Didn’t occur to me to get a fancy swatter.
The weird thing is that not only do I own one of those fly swatters but that I bought it twenty years ago when I was living in Germany and packed it up in a box and posted it back to NZ when we moved. Now, why would I send back a flyswatter ( and a Marc Newson dish drainer, and tea towels????) but give away my perfumes …the Helmut Lang, the Yohji Yamamotos, jil Sanders…etc.none of which I could replace EVER in Dunedin? Wearing DoTERRA whisper oil which I like a lot but wish was louder ( need a ‘shout’ flanker).
Ha, I posted above that I also own that flyswatter and quite like it, but I am sorry about your lost perfumes. When I moved across continents, I did take my three bottles of perfume with me (2 CdG and 1 Etro), but, by now, the juice is all gone. So, I imagine the same would have been true for those that you left in Germany while the flyswatter is still with you 🙂
Oh how funny! Or not. It’s always funny to me though what we chose to keep and chose to get rid of.
Another crazy work day but I am handling it well with assistance from Box of Eels. This perfume makes me feel more elegant than I actually am.
Weird weather observation, 56 degrees yesterday, 70 degrees today. I wish that the fall weather would stick around. This yo-yo back and forth is making everyone sick.
You smell great!
???? It lasted almost 12 hours today and I can still smell it on my clothes. The EDT is good stuff!
I think weird is the new norm. Makes me feel like I fit right in????
Not to mention intelligent, fun and very nice!
Totally agree with you on the see-saw weather making people sick. It gets old fast.
Ugh, I’ve been battling a sinus infection for weeks. I dread winter but this weather isn’t healthy.
Morning, all. I think it’s raining. Unusually for me, I haven’t yet showered or stuck my head out the window, because for the first time since semester began, I’m working at home. I’ve already marked two final assignments while I’ve been drinking my tea, and the kittens are endlessly fascinated by the laptop. Naturally, they’re walking on it, sniffing it, getting underneath it if they can, and are watching it closely to make sure it doesn’t try any tricks because, as you know, laptops can be very sneaky. Eric periodically growls at it very loudly to put it in its place. I have to say, I could be more productive, but there it is. I’m not.
I have thought about my scent of the day, but not yet applied it: Jubilation 25. I love this for its complications, but don’t ask me to describe them. I just know it’s a beauty, and though I’m going to spend the day deep in assignments, I know I will smell sophisticated and …and …sophisticated. I wish the assignments deserved or induced Jubilation, but I fear they are a bit mere. No matter. Nine to go. I will get back to them. Be well, all.
I love Jubilation 25 and was very surprised to find it was on many people’s skank lists. To me it is just up there among the stars with its gorgeousness.
Having four foster kittens now, I do know all about the experience of guarding my keyboard (not to mention coffee) from little investigating paws and noses! I am sad that my kittens will be going to the adoption centre on Saturday–three are already spoken for, yay! but also sniff, sniff. They’ve been so entertaining. Here’s a picture from just now:

BTW, I was horrified and saddened to learn of your student’s disastrous oral defense. My goodness! I truly hope she won’t have a career where she can do harm to others, such as maybe her own students. What a difficult situation to deal with. I too have chaired a thesis with a crazy student and it was like walking on eggshells. He wound up self-destructing in another graduate program later on.
Thanks, Calypso. I did speak to her briefly yesterday about the time frame of the amendments, and she listened quietly, but later in the conversation burst into song about getting them done in a month. ARRRRGGGHHH.
I suspect she sees herself as a future academic. I don’t know. I have to say, I hope she stops that line of thought, if that’s where she’s heading. I don’t see her facilitating learning particularly well.
I just looked s5 your babies. Just too adorable for words. I should try to do the Instagram thing or something so that you can meet Eric, Titus and Alexander.
adorbs! those kittens are lucky to have you now and that they will have fur-ever homes soon.
We need a place to post pics of kitties, or maybe even all the pets of NST.
Yes. A NST pet day would be fun… Match a scent to your pet
Wearing Cierge De Lune today. Quite nice.
I am into all things iris and vanilla of late.
+1. Quite enjoying it 🙂
We both smell great
+1 again, I am as well!
We all smell amazing.
This one is a slow bloomer. Starts off nice but blooms and gets better as it wears throughout the day. Sadly not the case with some fragrances.
My SOTD is Guerlain Encens Mythique D’Orient
Mythique D’Orient is a beauty! I need to look for my sample.
I’m wearing Dior Cuir Cannage; lovely floral leather.
My SOTD is Alahiiiiine! Been waiting to rotate this in!
Shamelessly borrowing someone else’s idea from yesterday: SOTD is Yohji Homme. I wouldn’t have thought of this as a fougere, despite the lavender, but I’ll take any suggestion to fit the theme. Plus, lovely coffee scent.
Took my car in to the mechanic for ordinary things, plus emmm eau de dead mouse. So far they have not found the expired rodent, but they did find a huge stash (like half a cup) of birdseed under the back seat. Clearly the critter was stocking up for the winter. 👿
SOTD is Sonoma Scent Studios Rose Volupte. Most roses don’t like me -they go sour or soapy or both. But Rose Volupte is a beautiful ambery, plummy rose on me. Very, very nice.
Hmm. Maybe I should try that. Roses are generally not my friends, either, but plum….
Pixel, the only roses I’ve found that work for me are either the incense/smoke roses (Tauer Incense Rose, Parfum Sacre) or the plummy/jammy type (Rose Flash, La Fille de Berlin)
Congratulations to the Houston Astros and their NST fan contingent! I saw bits & pieces of some of the games, but they started too late for me to even think about staying up to watch the whole thing.
SOTD = back in Jubilation XXV today, still trying to figure this one out. It’s a puzzlement… Meanwhile, one of my cats is quietly snoring in the background during her umpteenth nap of the day.
Congratulations the the Astros! It’s kind of hard being a Texas Rangers fan these days, so will live vicariously through the other Texas baseball franchise.
SOTD is Grandiflora Queen of the Night from a split. Not sure what I was expecting, but it is lovely and soft and will be perfect in summer.
Weird karma lately. I have had to diagnose 2 patients recently with metastatic cancer. One had been having pain for awhile, but nothing showed up on her tests. The other was really out of the blue. Both very nice ladies, naturally. It’s weird to be thanked profusely when you’re giving someone bad news. I just hope the rule of threes doesn’t apply and there’s someone else who’s next.
Thank goodness for doctors! Where would we be without them?
Sounds like you had a tough day. I hope tomorrow is better.
JM Amber & Lavender today, plus a little bit of Idyllwild to femme it up.
Wore Idyllwild today (per Robin’s example from yesterday) and really, really enjoyed it. Might turn out to be my favorite Ineke.
Robin, I don’t have any Peau de Pierre or either of the two Pradas you mentioned last night — so tomorrow I’ll have to decide on something for myself — eeep!
Oops, sorry then! I think I am going to go with Old Spice, but we’ll see how I feel in the morning.
SOTD = L’AP Seville a l’Aube
I was inspired by LizzieB’s mention of it yesterday. My bottle is now 5 years old, the juice had turned a darker orange and the smell is even more spectacular than I remembered! Orange blossom, lavender, honey/beeswax, incense, oh my!
I am still debating about what to wear tomorrow!
I love it when scents improve with age!
Such a weirdly warm topsy-turvy day that I wore Chinatown, usually a spring scent.
that’s funny as I associate Chinatown with autumn 🙂
Nonetheless, you smelled good !!!
