Monday scent of the day 10/30

Posted by Robin on 30 October 2017 231 Comments

Happy Candy Corn Day! Plus, yes, it's Monday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing Dasein Autumn, which is more Red Hots than Candy Corn. (Jessica said that she might like the brand's Winter Nights better as a room fragrance, and that's about how I feel about Autumn.)

Reminder: 11/3 will be Fougère Friday...wear a fougère, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

To give proper respects to all my relatives in Heaven I decided to wear incense/resins this week.

    Starting with Puredistance M today.

Wishing everyone a good week. We’ve been having some terrible winds (120 km/h) and I’m hearing Germany has it even worse.

I love Juozas Statkevicus EdP. I only have a sample (I haven’t seen it available anywhere for purchase lately), but it’s a gorgeous incense, in my book.

It is rich and evocative, perfect for the blustery weather.
I hear the Exorcist/Tubular Bells theme, nuns with their habits blown straight up (the movie) .

Wearing Tauer L’Eau which works for me better in colder temperatures than in summer time. I am really enjoying the sweet and creamy notes greatly! Beautiful and comfy.

Lots of coffee to keep myself alive on my second week of 14 hours in a row without any rest since last Monday. I will survive!

    Have a great week everyone!

You will survive for sure, but make sure you take care of yourself as much as you can! Time for lots of vitamin C and tea.

You smell wonderful. I hadn’t thought of trying L’Eau in cold weather – now I’m inspired.

        Thank you Sistine! 🙂

L’Eau was too sweet and overwhelming for me in hot temperatures. I could not take it. Now, all the notes are blooming softer and more beautiful and I find them more appropriate for the weather we have. I see myself wearing a lot in fall and winter. Give it a try now. Hopefully you will like it!

I’m wearing Gris Clair – we’ve had two chilly days in a row, so I made sure to wear it today. Sadly (to me at least), our temperatures are headed back up into the 70s and 80s.

Have a great week! I love candy corn – I may need to grab some on the way home tonight.

Wonderful, and it is the newer (2010) EDP.
Vintage is creamier, and the new has a slight sharpness in the beginning, but the drydown is fantastic.
Ylang ylang, jasmine, and sandalwood play like a well rehearsed trio of musicians.
Cheers, Lovestosmellgood! Send some Persian Cookies.

There are a lot of other island-type fragrances that are just as good or better. On my other arm I am testing Frangipani by Chantecaille Beaute and this one could easily go into Vanilla fragrance category because it has a big dollop of vanilla.
Mahora is more floral with chypre feel (though its not a chypre)

I’ve heard it described as “buttery” or “oily,” which seems unchypre-like. I had a chance to blind buy the parfum on evilbay, but was reluctant to bid too high on something I had never sniffed AND is so controversial. I love many fizzy humming floral chypres–so I will get myself a sample! Have you sniffed both the parfum and the edp?

I had a mini of that. I was not all that impressed by it at first, but I found that I really enjoyed emptying the bottle (and it went fast, too).

I should probably have bought a bigger bottle of it and chosen a mini of the original Lolita scent instead of a full one.

The old stuff was really quite Eau de Composted Fruit on me (yikes), but the newer version is both more wearable and less interesting, I think.

Unfortunately the super charged citrus that I always adored and remembered is not there the way my nose once remembered it…but that stands to reason as top notes never do well with vintage no matter how great the storage…that being said it still has the same drydown I remember…Calyx (along with Nocturnes de Caron and Gap Heaven and maybe even the original Victoria) was the closest to a signature scent for me…all those I just mentioned I must have drained 5-7 bottles of each….

now the newer version is similar enough but a bit more “cleaned up” …my nose is getting more lighter florals than the original…but in a pinch it would suffice if one needed a Calyx fix.

The samples on my desk were getting seriously out of control (just on my desk! not even all my samples!) so I went to the Container Store yesterday and got an acrylic case to sort them out. Feeling more clarity.

SOTD is Slumberhouse Norne, from a sample. Tres seasonally appropriate.

It is very nice. Rose, patchouli and spice. Kind of old school smelling to my nose. It doesn’t project too much outward on me…stays close to my skin.

Fragrantica describes it as a floral chypre…not sure how I would lump it… ????

Got two loads of laundry done first thing this morning – my major accomplishment for the day.

Thinking of staying with Cuir d’Ange again today. Wore it yesterday when I was out in that nasty weather. I changed clothes more than once just from being soaked. Included an evening jaunt downtown again to one of my husband’s movie things. Joan Didion documentary, which I enjoyed and is on Netflix for those of you who find her of interest. Although it did make me want to find out where she lives and go over and get her to eat something.

Having been one of the very few to have missed out all these years on Pacifica’s Tibetan Mountain Temple, and urged on by all of the upward thumbs here, I bought a bottle. For the first few hours, it’s straight up clove on me. There’s more of the incense vibe in the dry down (that I was expecting on first blast), but I’m not sure I can get through the wall of clove. It might serve for a home spray version of a Deck the Halls challenge, though. 🙂

SOTD Covet. Surprised this wasn’t more successful commercially.

In my search for deep dark roses, I have placed a nice sample order – thanks to the thoughtful suggestions from NST’ers.

Now, I’m open to making a cheapie order – but wanted to ask you guys if you think quality might be an issue for the following I may order from fragrancenet:

    -Tocade
    -Cabaret
    -Diva

I imagine if anyone here enjoys these fragrances, probably already have earlier versions – but just thought I would ask if you think it is better to look for earlier releases or not.

The earlier version of Diva is, I think, the only one where vintage might make a noticeable difference. The current stuff is not AS good but still very nice and not gutted.

I’m wearing CB I Hate Perfume Revelation this morning from a small sample. I’m afraid the honey is overwhelming everything else for me, and I wish I had a great big cinnamon bun or something else good and sweet to eat. I barely got up at 10 a.m. this morning after being awake until after 2:30 from the excitement of Game 5 and the Astros victory last night–that game was such a roller-coaster it was exhausting but also exciting!

Candy corn fan over here! This year my husband bought all these new varieties of CC and I’m not sure I see the point. The original and the chocolate are the best by far. I realize there are many who detest CC and I get it, it’s a very honey-sweet candy. Too much for most.

So… Sat. I had the great pleasure of going to Sniffapalooza for the first time and had such a fantastic day. What fun to meet other perfume lovers and to get to hear from various brands and actual perfumers on their inspiration behind a scent. Really interesting and quite a special day.

I actually received from Sat’s event Dasein’s Winter which is such a shockingly realistic scent –just pine/spruce and a touch of sweet lavender. Beautiful scent and perfect for very cold Winter days. Curious about Autumn, Spring & Summer scents.

Some that I have and may wear this week, although some are more modern fougeres: Jicky, Chanel Boy, Serge Lutens Fourreau Noir and Gris Clair, MCG Barry Lyndon, D.S. & Durga Burning Barbershop. I don’t have that last one anymore, as it was too overpowering and masculine for me to wear.

Morning , all. I’m having frustrating times with my network connection again. I noticed it managed to fail so that the post I write yesterday disappeared. It wasn’t riveting, but it was my contribution to daily NST chat, and it’s irritating when technology is dodgy. Today is a “Must do better—or else!” day.

I’m wearing the ever lovely Oeillet Bengale today, and I smell exactly like a frilly pink carnation that has, for reasons of its own, set up house among some dark red roses. This isn’t a complex perfume, but it is endlessly pretty, and satisfyingly carnation-like. When I get back to Fumerie next June (Foxbins, are you up for it? I do hope so!) I will buy a FB , I think, though my three travel sprays are holding up well, and I yearn greatly for Pelargonium too.

Speaking of pelargoniums, I have one growing in the window of the apartment. It’s become a bit leggy and sprawling, and thus provides a perfect set for kittens to pose for pictures to adorn the lids of chocolate boxes. You have never seen anything so sweet as a neon-white Siamese kitten sitting on his haunches to bat at the red flowers, all unaware of a little stripey tiger-face peering thoughtfully through the foliage…Titus, wondering about ambushing the pretty boy. My heart just melted from the overload of cuteness, even though Eric had been sharpening his claws on my duvet cover about 20 minutes before, and Titus has made a hut at the top of my wardrobe, accessible only by mountaineering up my shirts and jackets. Kittens don’t have to do much to be forgiven their misdemeanours.

Best of days to you, NST. Be well.

Sorry about your network issues. I specifically seek out your posts in these SOTD threads, so I’m always happy when you manage to post 🙂 I hope you really do write that book of collected kitten stories someday.

I also look for your posts – I love learning about the flora and fauna in NZ. I had to look up pelargoniums – we call those gerariums here!

I’m trying out The Holy Mountain from Apoteker Tepe – smoke and cinnamon, mostly. I like it well enough, and it smells good with the rose hand cream I put on this morning, though I think I might prefer smoke scents in the air around me rather than on me, you know?

Feeling unhappy and overwhelmed this Monday morningish. I’ve gotten almost no work done today, and it’s nearly 11. Hopefully the week will get better.

The air is chilly today, as well it should be on the penultimate day of October. I’m wearing the gorgeous, melancholy, and comforting Tabac Aurea. I am not completely sure what the fougere note smells like (most of the ferns I’ve encountered don’t smell of anything but vegetation), and anyway, I don’t think the note is much of a comforting fall scent for me, so I doubt I’ll be participating in this week’s CP much.

Sampling this morning, so far the only thing really exciting me is Fueguia Jacaranda, which is of course $$$. Fie on crazy niche prices. But actually, that might be a good thing for me, as I have far too many bottles and if I can ever stick to a budget, it will reduce the speed at which the collection grows. Plus, to be honest, there are very few truly original scents coming out that don’t duplicate to some extent one of the hundreds already in my collection. I’ve pretty much hit critical mass.

Nice! I was just looking at taking some more days off with day after Thanksgiving and Dec. 22 to Jan 3 off and I managed to find 4 days and stll have 5 more days to carryover to next year. In some of thise dates, I have to put in at least 1 hour of working to facilitate a meeting. I need to train someone to back me up. And of course I just realized I couldn’t take off due to a major deadline.

SOTD = Very Vintage Guerlain L’Heure Bleue

hajusuuri is not a happy camper today. Verizon did sone work outside the house earlier today (for something I did not call about). Whatever was done caused all calks to my home number ti be forwarded to a Dental Office. Oh for crying out loud. The dental office personnel were nice but empty -headed. Of course it is nit their fault but their response of Oh so sorry we got many phone calls from thus number. When I wxplained what’s happening, the woman said “that’s okay, we’ll give the caller your number.” Ummm, ok, until the issue is fixed, doing that will keep the caaler in an infinite loop of reaching the dental office AGAIN. Verizon Customer Service was no help. They authenticatwd me 4x in one call and kept trying to diagnose the issue via sime script they were tokd to folliw eventhough I kept saying it was done on premises so the fix has to be done onsite (i’ve previously observed a tangke of physical wires inside a metal box being worked on by Verizon). But no. Verizon couldn’t just send a texhnician out, they must exhaust all means of resolving the issue without sending a technician. I bet sending a technician ends up as a negative mark against the CSR. I fibally asked for a supervisor but was on hold so long I had to droo the call. To add insult to injury, i got into:

    Commuting Win a d Woes No. 402:
    – either it was puped in or someobe in the train car was carryung fresh durian. Ugh, when it’s fresh, it smells like rotting garbage.
    – I missed my connection
    – Win: I got ti tey McDonald’s Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich, rated one of the 3 best fast food choices by Dr. Oz!

    SotD = Prada Purple Rain

Grabbed this scent to celebrate the cool weather and a slight chance of rain that has finally arrived. Iris is the goddess of rain (or rainbows?), also a messenger like Hermes.

I love this iris scent more each time I wear it. Thankfully the beautiful 4 ml sample sent to me by a fabulous perfumista is holding up well.

The listed notes are iris, vetiver, neroli. I get a big hit of neroli to start with the iris shining through after a just a minute, then it lasts a good 3+ hours from just a generous dab on each wrist. Vetiver, well I dunno, maybe it’s there, but it is subtle.
