French niche line Frédéric Malle has launched Promise, a new fragrance. Like 2014's The Night, Promise is geared towards the Middle East market.
Frédéric Malle celebrates two precious varieties of rose in the Promise Eau de Parfum. A harmonious blend of rose essence from Bulgaria and rose absolute from Turkey are lifted by apple, pink pepper and clove, and bound to a sensuous base of patchouli, cypriol and labdanum for a truly unbreakable accord.
Promise was developed by perfumer Dominique Ropion.
Frédéric Malle Promise is available now at Harrods in the UK, £245 for 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

“Let’s create one for the Middle Eastern market but only release it in London.” This practice by companies is tiresome.
HAHA! You just made my day
I’m not sure why you complain about perfumes: when I visit Harrods, I get a feeling that they keep the whole store for that same market 😉
I complain about perfumes because this is *fragrance* blog.
Just in case I wasn’t clear: it wasn’t a dig at you, sorry if it sounded this way. I was trying to support your point, not to argue with it.
I would guess it’s also available in the Middle East, or will be eventually? Also would guess you will eventually be able to buy it elsewhere — The Night is not hard to find.
But I acknowledge the point 🙂
I was almost positive it will be available in the US, because the manager of the FM counter at Barney’s and the SAs at the new boutique in Weho both told me this was coming out a few months ago. So I don’t know why they’d tell me if it wasn’t going to be available. But we’ll see!
My thought process:
“Ooooo! New Frederic Malle! Shiny!”
“Urg, for the middle eastern market.” The Night was straight-up poop to me.
Well the notes for this one don’t actually SOUND like it’s for the middle eastern market, so who knows. I’m sure I’ll give it a sniff if I get a chance.
I did not even try The Night so rather glad to hear it smells like poop. But rose *is* very popular in the Middle East.
I was discouraged too when I saw the arabic name on the label, but the notes don’t mention oud, so that’s at least positive. I hated The Night too.
The middle east is empty in summer and it does feel like the whole population has relocated to London ! They should have got it out a few month earlier to capture the market
Just to be clear, I have no idea when or where it first went on sale, though…
I am a big fan of Dominique Ropian’s fragrances and really want to sample this! The pricing is the same as for Carnal Flower. Do you mean to say it won’t be available throughout Europe? Please don’t tell me this is so.
No, I assume it will eventually be everywhere, just like The Night. But I do not know anything official at all.
Typo: should be Ropion
I know the notes aren’t identical, but I’m kind of thinking I don’t need this if I have Portrait of a Lady. Especially since it’s by Ropion.
Dominique Ropion also did The Night, which now is available everywhere. My guess is this is the more ‘affordable’ version of it, though just like The Night, it doesn’t hold any interest to me. Plus, The Black Narcissus posted early thoughts on it some weeks back and wasn’t taken with it either.
I was completely taken by surprise by this gorgeous scent. On my friend it turned to candy. On my wrist, smoke, moss, warm spice, and Apple. The rose is unlike any other — sophisticated and deep. And it anchors the green moss. Has a similar depth to that of an oud without the camphor. Might be why they named wa’ad which is spelled with the same three letters. It isn’t an oud yet shares the same “geometry”. Btw, some of the remarks above are off putting. “As soon as I saw the Arabic…”
